Well, in this project, it seems like once the houses are developed, there will be lots of garden space for people to plant their own trees. So in the end, the damage shouldnt be too much. However, it would have been great if those people had transplanted the trees from there instead of killing them, or had taken part in a tree plantation campaign before they went on an environemt ruining rampage.

Overall, this project is still an A+ project in my books.

Mangla View Resort is being constructed over 324 acres of land directly facing Mangla Lake. It will have two hotels (total 500 rooms) and a club house of 1,20,00 square feet covered area. Mangla View Resort will also have a water sports club, 18-hole golf course, a riding club and extreme games park.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Tourism, G.G. Jamal said Monday that Mangla View Resort is a landmark project in private sector which would bring revolutionary change in the lifestyle of local population.

Speaking in a TV programme of the state-own television channel he said, the project would offer 25,000 employment opportunities to the locals besides other benefits.

With an international standard Golf Course and multiple water sports facilities the resort would boost supports activities in the area.

With beautiful natural scenes and appropriate boarding facilities the resort will attract a large number of local and foreign tourists, he said.

He said the government was facilitating the private sector both from home and abroad to invest in all the potential areas including tourism industry of the country.

The Mangal View Resort would be the first mega project in the area of tourism, he added.

To a question he said the private sector investors are seeing the success of this project would of course try to expand their business and such a resort can also be set up in Terbella, the minister said.

Its a part of development. We cant cry over every tree.
I'm sure whereever u live some trees were chopped down to make way for it. But ure not gonna move out of there are u?
The problem is not chopping trees, its managing the change created by their absence, or equalizing it with a scaled replantaion to maintain the ecological balance.

Actually Pakistan's forest percentage is not 4%, it's only 2.5%.. it was 3.3% in 1990.. I think it's by far the lowest % relative to population size. Believe it or not, UAE has a higher percentage of forest than Pakistan does.. and they've increased from 1990.. probably artificial forests or something, haha.

BTW, this resort is a fantastic development. The quality seems top notch, the architecture is some of the best I've seen in contemporary projects in Pakistan, and construction seems to be very fast compared to other projects. The big question is, what's the company behind all this? Are they planning any other developments?

I just Google'd it and came up with Maxcorp, which seems to be a Malaysian firm.. their only other visible project in Pakistan is the DHA Golf Club in Karachi, which shows up nicely on Google Earth at least.. you can tell a lot about a developer with how well the roof is maintained. :P Maxcorp also signed a deal with Bahria in 2005 to design/construct/maintain Bahria Golf City in Islamabad, and Maxcorp is also in charge of DHA Islamabad.. but strangely enough they don't seem to have a website.

Buddy ur location says TO, I assumed that meant Toronto, otherwise I would not have said that, if I knew u were in the midwest.
Secondly I am aware that deforestation is a huge issue in Pakistan. But addressing that has to be an ongoing effort and that is part and parcel of development.
I am not suggesting that ur against development. I was pretty shocked by that picture when I first saw it too. I am suggesting that u give the developers the benefit of the doubt. They should be smart enough to know that protecting their investment in the long run will involve protecting the natural surrounding (atleast I 'm hoping they have that much sense).

Let us be fair and try to understand how our government really stands on Azad Kashmir. Azad Kashmir is under indirect control of Pakistan and only the defence, foreign policy, and currency Pakistan controls directly. Otherwise, Azad Kashmir really has their own institutions at the end of the day. I know this is a bit offtopic but it was informative so I decided to share.

The project is located towards the left side of the river Jhelum so I think it will probably have some parts in Mirpur District and some parts in the Jhelum district. If you go to the begining of the thread the location is Sultanpur, Punjab. On their site they point towards villages and cities in the Punjab so that only increases the confusion. And the coordinates in the first post lead to a forest North of Mirpur which does not match up with where their location is according to their site.

the location posted by mrfix is 100% right location,
its the tip of mangla that goes into the reservoir of mangla dam, i was at the inauguration of this project and its location looks like paradise, it was really beautifull.
the quality is of very high standards is well.
marketing of the project has been bad, but suprisingly its all selling.
the only problem with this project is the access to it, they will need to make a motorway or remodel GT road and have an end on it what leads to the resort.
i dont think that tree cutting will be a problem with it, the whole area is forest and it will just make the resort feel much better, with its greenary and lakes.

resorts are now coming up in pakistan, other then this there are 4 more around this area. One is even bigger then this resort and will be located at Abbotabad, then there is one coming up at the salt mines in Punjab, 2 a few miles ahead of islamabad and one big one coming up in Swat.
There was also New Murree, but that was a disaster by the Gov. authoritys and wont be made.

UnitedPakistan
May 10th, 2007, 03:53 AM
Let me clear the confusion, this resort is considered part of the Jhelum District of the Punjab. At the grand opening the District Nazim of Jhelum was present and he was thanked by President Musharraf for helping to develop the resort. He also thanked the Government of Punjab for making this all possible. So that pretty much closes the case! And PLEASE! No more questions of rather it is in Punjab or Kashmir as I have asked people on the ground and done my own research.

hello Mr.UnitedPakistan
what people have you asked.
the resort is located right into the reservoir of mangla dam, i was their at its inauguration, and the location shown in the google map posted on the other page is 100% accurate.
the gov. in kashmir is very weak, they couldnt make this happen on their own, considering its very near to punjab, the the pujab gov. and military had to give them a hand, and also considering the military has a stake in it, they would want to make it a big success.

Take a look at their main website for further information on their location. You will also see international firms also showing it as a part of Jhelum district. Also I am sure you are aware that MOST of the reservoir of the Mangla Dam lies in Jhelum District. I personally think they are messing with the borders of AJK just to make this project under Jhelum District Government.

Am I the only one who thinks its rather stupid to build a resort in this area. Weather alone would kill tourism not just during most of the year but especially during the summer vacation season.

Plus the area, even though beautiful, doesnt really match up to its counterparts in Kashmir. Wouldnt this money would have been better invested setting up a similar resort in Northern Areas?

Edit: I could be wrong though, maybe that artificial lake has some cooling effect on the immediate surroundings.

I agree.. all gates do is give the upper-class a hard-on from the perception that they're important, and to give the impression that it's an exclusive society. If it's the only practical way to provide security, fine, but otherwise it's just another hammer in the coffin of an egalitarian society. Having said that, the mosque-look looks even more ridiculous, since Islam teaches the exact opposite of everything that gate stands for.

Another thing that pisses me off is the size of the roads leading up to these gates. Bahria is the worst. What's the point of having a highway-sized road leading up to a neighbourhood? Maybe having a smaller road would enable them to actually clean it once in a while, which is the the biggest difference when it comes to road aesthetics.
