I don't think it was cancelled. At least I hope not. As far as I know, the only two projects which were canned were The Sandown and the Sandown Isle. I also love it AAS... something different for a change.

best new building for the area, pity that its in a wall estate, right next to low rise homes. Joburg planners need to start implimenting mixed use urban projects, that arent secluded from the rest of society.

I love the new urbanism and such in Durban but the projects in Johannesburg are surreal, kind of out by themselves. There is an appeal in that- but actually having to live that lifestyle can be frustrating. The locations these buildings go in make no sense sometimes.

Perhaps they should connect this building to the streets of Sandton Central.

It's all about security really. Joburgers feel secure in an enclosed environment. That's why we have high walls, loads of housing estates and big gardens. It's starting to change, but slowly I guess.

OK I got word from the developer. The Emperor is under construction. 80% of the apartments have been sold. I'm still awaiting details re height, floors, architect etc..
He told me that the Sandown was cancelled because the builder decided to massively increase his costs at the last minute.

They're only marketing to overseas customers. Haven't seen this in a local publication here. Anyway, as soon as they heard I was just some weirdo asking about the number of floors and the height, their interest in me waned dramatically. I think I should pretend to be Baron Von Moffie or something next time.

Yeah, Baron Von Moffie sounds very sophisticated.

In comparison to the normal shit we get here in Joburg, it's fucking FABULOUS!! :D For a start, it's over 4 floors. AND... It's not Tuscan. Believe it or not, this building is quite imaginative...

You know if these developers actually got their heads together they could do something nice in the area. You see, the Emperor is actually accross the road from a developement could The Amazonas, which is next to Westpoint (a whole 13 floors).

If they all bandied together and developed West Rd. South (the road on which all these buildings are situated), instead of leaving it an ugly dusty road, they could actually create a really nice environment. Would be great to stick in some ground floor retail, and some fountains and flora and fauna.. and the area would do really well too!

I visited this place in Jan, its superb. Love all the flats I seen & I dig the water feature. Only thing is the traffic problem in the morning, EVERYBODY on the road is going onto Grayston so there will be a que just to get out of your driveway!

Wow!! Very nice...! It's turned out very palatial/ decadent!

Probably turns its back on the sidewalk/pavements and street entirely. :(
