Here ya go, enjoy. You'll notice the North Saskatchewan is quite high as these were taken during the week when Alberta rivers were flooding.

Yep, there are alot, much like many other North American cities. However, that is changing as a result of new developments and condo highrises.

honestly...i do not see "many parking lots"...i see an acceptable amount considering edmonton is not van, ny, or paris.

I've never seen so much vacant land in a major downtown.

I'm looking at the pictures as hard as I can, and other than parkland and surface parking, I don't see any vacent lots.

I do, however agree that there is a lot of room for growth, and it is happening.

Surface parking and even parkland in a downtown might be regarded as vacant, or developable land.

And that's precisely the problem. We don't see them a) because we're so used to them that we actually don't see them anymore, and b) because we've always got a list of more interesting, more deserving cities to bring up—ones that have somehow earned the right not to be swallowed up by single-occupant vehicles—in order to justify, in our resigned and apathetic fashion, the general crapness of our urban environment.

/\ Are you referring to Regina?

Perhaps I should mention " vacant land without density" Edmonton's entire downtown office space can fit into Calgary's CBD with ease.

Calgary has ecellent density and yes vacant land, but not throughout the downtown core.

Understandably, Edmonton is in it's infancy regarding density and tower devlopment compared to Calgary, perhaps that will change in the future.

In the photos of Calgary, you showed land that will not be vacant anylonger due to Livingstone plaza and the new Encana devlopment/Imperial oil tower potential biulding sites. :)

I notice the North Saskatchewan river is muddy looking in this photo, is that just from the high amount of rain we had in june or is it always that way? And I was also wondering if that is the Edmonton Municipal airport in the top right hand corner of the first photo, and if that is where the Edmonton Cart race took place in July??

Livingstone will take up a portion of one of the lots, Encana is still unknown, but there is still plenty of vacant land to the east. I know you know what I am talking about, take a drive down 9th Ave SE.

Fact, there is more downtown office space in Calgary than the entire Edmonton market. Too bad none of us denied that.

Yes, these pics were taken when almost every river in Alberta was cresting. The N. Sask in that pic was very high and full of depris. That is the Muni airport and yes, that is where the Champ Car race took place.

It is not crystal clear as the land around it is high in sediment, but these photos are significantly browner than normal. Yes that is the muni where the CHAMP race takes place.

"whats edmonton like? a cool place to live? what ski resorts are close by?"

ski resorts near by include jasper, banff and lake louise..all within 3.5-5hr drives as well as local hills. As for living here, Edmonton is one of the most festival/event driven cities in canada and because of that is exciting and eclectic.

And more vacant space that is going to be developed. As we speak, there are at least 4 proposals in the que that will replace 4 'large' parking lots.

You still can't deny the fact that there are some large swaths of vacant land adjacent to the CBD in Calgary, much like Edmonton.

not from my perspective - you definitely won't find any large swaths of pavement and block-sized plazas (well maybe) around my tallest
