I was there once passing through. It's on the border Scotland-England and we were indeed in a restaurant where there was a wedding ceremony going on. A friend of a friend of mine was actually getting married there :) Okay it's just history today but it still lives from this "tradition" :)

For the ones that don't know it: it was the first city of Scotland and a blacksmith I think was marrying young couples from England, because there they needed a permission from the parants for a wedding. If they didn't get it, they went to Gretna Green - the wedding papers were accepted by the English authorities.

It's a museum isn't it? In the Northwest... bugger, I was there, I knew it, but was 10 or 15 years ago, I am getting senile, don't remember, bugger - have even a foto of it...
