View Full Version : One Detroit Center, Detroit
Mr. Detroit February 9th, 2003, 12:25 AM This is the One Detroit Center in Detroit. It also occasionally goes by the names Comerica Tower and 500 Woodward Avenue. It was built in 1992 and has 45 floors.

I would prefer a stronger colour for its facade and more height.
SteelCity32 February 9th, 2003, 08:52 AM small, and it's ok.
5/10
renell February 9th, 2003, 11:13 AM looks very small considering it has 45 floors... 5.5
Brettman220 February 11th, 2003, 05:39 AM Lol, I was suppose to post this for you Mr. Detroit, oh well Im lazy.
This is a great Detroit skyscraper and it is not short!!! Its 619 feet tall. It doesnt look like its 45 stories tall because each window is more than one floor, I think its 3 stories per window but im not sure.
I give it 9/10.
Daniel8ty8 February 11th, 2003, 05:56 AM I gave it a 6.0.
While the building is pleasing to the eye at first, it doesn't take to long for the simplicity of the building to get boring and contrived...
Mr. Detroit February 18th, 2003, 01:21 AM Brettman, I think you are right about that 3-stories-per-window deal. I love that building. It is great sitting watching a game at Comerica and seeing that.
Ashram February 19th, 2003, 12:51 AM 5/10 It's about the same height as Place Ville Marie in Montreal, but for some reason doesn't look as tall. It's also kind of bland.
Monkey February 19th, 2003, 01:12 AM Height, shmeight!!! :D
There are higher uglier buildings and lower uglier buildings, and this one pleases me, particularly because I'm downright enamored with the generously articulated roof portion.
For what it is & because I'm a retro freak I give it a 10. :)
Michi February 19th, 2003, 05:06 AM You don't get much better of a shot of Comerica Tower's crown than this photo!!!
Top O' Comerica Tower (http://downtownmotown.8k.com/CBD510.JPG)
I rate her a 8/10. The top is very unique and very "Detroit", but the rest of the scraper can be found in any city. It's nice, but nothing too special! :)
...a 10/10 for what it does for the Detroit skyline though...;)
cabasse February 23rd, 2003, 08:19 AM Love this building. The facade reminds me of two of my city's favourites: 191 Peachtree and 1 Atlantic Centre. The three floors per window thing is true.
Another good example proving that architects recycle good designs.

Supertramp rocks.

hudkina November 8th, 2003, 03:02 AM While it's not my favorite building in Detroit, I love this because it's not one of those ugly glass behemoths you see in sunbelt cities.
It goes hand in hand with the classic 1920's structures that dominate the skyline, and a great addition.
9/10

quite interesting
james2390 January 24th, 2004, 08:54 AM Its definately related to my favorite, One Atlantic Center in Atlanta. 10/10

^^^ I totally agree... goes perfectly w/the existing bldgs. Looks bigger in person as well. My dad took me to the top while it was under construction- was very cool for a 10-12y/o. Very attractive overall.

DamienK December 15th, 2004, 10:28 AM Doesn't look that tall. 7/10
hudkina January 16th, 2005, 01:17 AM That's because each one of those bays is two stories.

DecoJim December 18th, 2005, 02:38 AM I agree that this tower fits in nicely with the older skyscrapers of Detroit. To those who say it is bland, I don't agree but even so I would rather had this building than some of the recent garish buildings being built today!
8/10

DetKing111 September 8th, 2007, 02:53 AM I see people saying it's short. for some reason it comes off short, but it rises to 620 ft. that's pretty tall! the building is actually, i believe, beautiful architecture. a mix between the penobscot and the madden building. it's top is also very nice. I give it a 10.0 also makes the skyline much taller.

Please note that each six-pane window is two stories high.

From right to left along Woodward Ave., is the base of the Comerica Tower, the Vinton bldg, some 3 & 4 story bldgs (from the 1870s), the former National Bank of Detroit building, Compuware, and in the distance, the abandoned David Broderick bldg.
Prince Victor March 3rd, 2008, 04:16 AM 8/10 it's kind of nice.
