Thanks for the tip about parking at the Greektown Casino! Here is a little tour of the area starting with the walk from the parking lot :

My lunch - turkey salad with minestrone soup and a very soft French-style bread that didn't taste French ... I never had anything like it in Paris.

Next part ... Monorail!!!

Awesome pics. Blows our Greektown in Baltimore away. Our's is big, but it isn't nearly as Greek. Must be a lot going on there.

Awesome pics. Detroit's Greektown seems to compare, if not put to shame, Chicago's Greektown. Having a massive casino complex right there in the middle of it all must really keep that area buzzing late at night too. Very cool.

They've got to expand the People Mover. And rename it, too ;)

The thing is that Greektown is probably the most vibrant area in downtown and maybe the city, though many more are now arising (Campus Martius, parts of Midtown...). Though, you couldn't tell from these pics since they were taken on a Sunday.

Yeah Greektown, is about the only thing going on (at least entertainment and much of the good food concentration) in downtown Detroit. But Greektown detroit is better than Chicagos halsted st greektown IMO.

Well, Foxtown is a pretty lively district as well. Though it is covered in swaths of abandonment. That's Ilitch's legacy. Ilitch is the man who owns the Tigers, the Fox Theater and pretty much all of abandoned downtown Detroit. He's our community looser...yet when he wins, he wins big.

I try to imagine how much of Detroit's deteriorating physical and mental state is due to the fact that Ilitch refuses to build the city that he owns. One man, many persons' loses.

^ you can say that, again... Ilitch is a great sports franchise owner and entertainment district builder, but an absolute MORON of a land/property owner. Someone needs to give him a smack in the face. He could, as of this moment, be one of the most hated men according to Detroit enthusiasts, after what he did to the beloved Madison-Lenox hotel.
