Liverpool Echo - Letters:

"Come on Liverpool - show the way!"

It is truly dissapointing that Liverpool counillors and North west agencies have let the city of Liverpool down (especially the people) yet again ...... potencially turning away hundreds and hundreds of millions of pounds of inward investment. (and let`s not forget a few areas of central government.)

Why?

Well we can`t decide on `Merseytram` - but years of deliberation has taken place and current developments depend on it NOW.....doesn`t that matter?

`Tall buildings` - it might spoil the view (It might actually enhance the view, create jobs, increase the population and increase spending.)

European Capital of Culture - don`t blow it (The Liverpool International Garden Festival was a real success despite a stupid council.)

World Heritage Status - tremendous and deserved but use a bit of common sense.

Liverpool can`t live on either thin air or the counillors hot air.

Jobs matter.

So I have a message for you career politicians - it`s a great pity that you are paid to attend council.

Get your finger either out of your arse or out of each others eye and get the jobs comming in.

Stop messing about.

Kind regards.

Ta Awayo,

Yes, mostly Brum but spend some time in London - still have friends and family in Liverpool though.

What really annoys me is Liverpool potential (despite still being a fine city) but the number of times momentum is lost.

Why do we keep loosing the vision and the will?

Spot on Pie Eater.

Move magazine is doing tall buildings in its next issue.

It seems odd that the majority of letters and general support seems to be in favour of new, tall development, trams, a bigger Kings Dock Arena, Anfield, easier and cheaper car access to the downtown, development of negelected or rundown areas and yet the politicians seem to go against the flow. They seem to be more interested in national party politics or local point scoring.

They get away with it because Liverpudlians seem to be totally disaffected by the ballot box - and that is the biggest failiure of ALL our politicians both nationally and locally.

While development, investment and jobs are being offered from external companies the corpy should be doing all it can to accommodate them, even if one or two projects fall over initially it won't matter. What does matter is renewing the housing stock, the commercial offer, the retail infrastructure, the transport, the rebuilding of critical mass in people and business sectors, the rebuilding of public services.

None of that can be achieved off the back of rejection, sweetened with the odd museum here and 'iconic' 'gateway' there alone.

Time for digit from bumhole extraction.

I reckon we start our own local party and like TSB's old slogan we can be the body that like to say yes if only.

WHAT A FABULOUS IDEA!

All we need is one candiate in L1 or even including L2 and L3 and they will s* bricks.

Just one really arsey pro plus candidate on the council! (To begin with anyway....)

This forum is awash with `MANIFESTO` Ideas.........

And I for one would be a fully paid up member.

Ta for your comments by the way Toadboy! :)

I reckon we start our own local party.
And it is far easier than you think and there is a ready fountain of funding from at least three of the rejected developers Chieftain, Ballymore & Maro . Go for it.

It is achievable, what is needed is coordination and organisation though.

Maybe Sebo's Downtown has enough fingers in pies, goodwill etc to start the ball rolling.

That said itt'll take some shifting to change the civil service, it's not just the top politicians.

And in most councils you would only need to win a few wards to hold the balance of power. You only need to remember the handful of religious bigots that kept the Tories in the council drivers seat for decades? The danger however, is becoming a "Politician" yourself. :)

That is the issue Sloyne.

I often wonder and question the motives of people who want to be or make a career out of politics.

Well done for putting your views forward regarding the council Pietari. It's all well and good our gang giving those respinsible a kicking but those letters make it into print. A lot more people will see the echo in print rather than the online version. Make these feelings widespread and maybe one day the council will obey the will of the people they serve.

Dear Sir, Madam,

If it were not enough that `Social Services` are on strike, delaying payments to the sick and elderly, the generally poor and marginalised, we also have a `Liverpool City Planning Department` rejecting or holding back more than half a billion pounds worth of investment due to the interference of English Heritage.

Some one some where has to start biting the apple of common sense.

Kind regards,
