What's the most sinister building you know of ?
The Boy David August 11th, 2005, 11:00 PM You think that is sinister?
These four tower blocks are in Glasgow, Scotland (BELIEVE me when I say that not all of Glasgow is like this, lol  ). Talk about apocolyptic, eh?

Have you ever seen anything as scary as that?
What about Glasgow Cathedral?

I love Glasgow because its just full of atmosphere.
Travis007 August 11th, 2005, 11:11 PM The fact that it makes the entire city block grey and depressing makes the Marriot in Yorkville the most sinister looking POS in Toronto. *Notables: The Nightmare on Elm Street.

brummad August 12th, 2005, 02:43 PM if you want sinsister look no further than dartmoor prison on a cold winters night...if you can drive across the moor and thru princetown going east you wont be able to stop the car due to legal restrictons incase a prisoner escapes and hijacks you lol but when you get to the prison museum get out and look at the most horrificly chilling sight..the mist rolls over the top of the hill and down onto the vile imposing prison at the foot of the hill. it seriously is a creepy sight especially when you think of who is in there
Madman August 12th, 2005, 03:18 PM My University's (Uni of Bath) brutalist pedestrian area known as the Parade... the perfect incentive when studying architecture to try as hard as possible to make nice spaces. Truly vile and stuck on top of a massive hill this area provides a perfect wind tunnel for the aeronautical engineers.

RafflesCity August 12th, 2005, 06:22 PM The most sinister I've seen is Mirador/Chung King Mansions & its cousins in Hong Kong.
Flatiron August 12th, 2005, 06:39 PM The Dakota, the Ansonia and the Dorilton in NYC are all 19th century contenders. The Dorilton probably wins. Roosevelt Island is amazingly bleak and threatening-looking--it's featured in the recent film "Dark Water."
The most frightening building I've ever seen is the Danvers Insane Asylum in MA. It appears in the film "Session 9," which also recounts the actual building's truly evil history.

dogyears August 13th, 2005, 06:51 PM Good grief, Michigan Central Station in Detroit is such an awesome ruin. I believe a scene from "The island" was filmed there (can't confirm it, but the place bears striking resemblance).
redstone August 13th, 2005, 07:08 PM So grand, what happened?
firmanhadi August 13th, 2005, 07:26 PM Michigan Centarl Station has never been used to its full capacity since it was opened in the 30s. This is partly due its wrong location. Passengers had to take an intraurban rail from downtown to reach it. This connection to downtown was discontinued after the Great Depression, made the station even more isolated.
In 1978 $1.2 million worth of renovations begin. These include new track, bus facilities, and cleaning. The offices were used by Conrail. These bright days did not last. Passenger traffic declined so severely that the decision was made to close the facility. On January 5, 1988 the building was permanently closed.
Open throughout much of the 90's, the station has been vandalized. Its plaster and brass details were gutted out by scavengers. Currently there has been discussion of its renovation as the new Detroit Police headquarters or an office for the Department of Homeland Security.

- ABSOLUTELY SCARY! Haha, and that blue sky doesn't make things any better. I'd HATE to be in those buildings. They look like they're condemning me to something!
(Creepy) Buildings in Albany/New York
- SCAAAAAAAARYYYYYYYYY! Haha, as I scrolled down, I saw the top of the building and thought it was that building in London, but boom, then came one, two, three, and four of them, added with that strange circular thing that looks like a UFO - and it just looks like a city that aliens that mysteriously placed randomly. I'd HATE to go there also, or live there and see those buildings everyday of my life! DIVERSITY people, DIVERSITY!
Michigan Central Station
- Is haunting! Its like the 1930s have gone and past and now this is all that is left of it. But that being said, if that was in a downtown area, and not a scary secluded zone, it would like quite pretty.
Ryugyong Hotel
- The epitomy of sinister! When I first saw this building years ago, it FREAKED me out! Imagine being in one of those floors! There wouldn't be a single soul in the building, and no electricity! Eeek!

interpol August 29th, 2005, 05:19 AM Danvers State Hospital, MA, United States.
Former Psychiatric Hospital, built in the 1870's and finally shut down in the late 1980's, it has remained abandoned ever since. It sits on Hawthorne hill looking over northern Boston. Hawthorne Hill was also the site of the original Salem village where the witch hunt occured.
At it's peak between the two World wars it was crammed with over 4000 patients. The lobotomy was first performed at Danvers State.
I visited nearby Lowell in 1998 visting family friends, and we got into the grounds with my cousins late at night. I didn't sleep at all afterwards, it had the most horrifically haunting and sad vibe. Walking through the grounds you felt watched by the hundreds of dark windows.

3. To the owners of the photos of the Albany Towers: I was wondering if I could use this photo (shrunken up small) for a post in my blog with a link back to this thread...?

Hey I just had a look at your website about skyscraper models - very cool - quick question how do you paint the cardboard accurately and draw the lines etc.? (I ask because I have a little bit of experience making terrain for table top games and painting them and basing them etc, but all your lines are deadon straight...)?
Anyway, just thought I would let you know that your site is pretty cool!

the spliff fairy November 13th, 2008, 12:41 AM Borley Rectory, built 1863 on the site of a Benedictine Abbey, after which emmediately footsteps would be heard late at night. The most haunted house in Britain (and that's saying something, the UK has reputedly more ghosts per sq. mile than anywhere in the world):
In 1900 four daughters saw the ghost of a nun at twilight, who disappeared after they tried to talk to her. The next four decades reports of a ghostly horse and carriage, along with its headless horseman were reported. In 1927 after a new family moved in a brown package was found in a cupboard, inside which was the skull of a young woman. Shortly after, the family would report a variety of incidents including the sounds of servant bells ringing (on which the strings had been cut), lights appearing in windows and unexplained footsteps. The wife reported seeing a carriage and horses.

1935, many incidents took place with another new family moving in, including bell-ringing, windows shattering, stones, bottle-throwing and wall-writing, and their daughter was locked in a room with no key. Marianne Foyster reported to her husband a whole range of poltergeist phenomena which included her being thrown from her bed.[14] On one occasion, Adelaide was attacked by "something horrible". Twice, Foyster tried to conduct an exorcism, but his efforts were fruitless. In the middle of the first, Foyster was struck in the shoulder by a fist-size stone.

Borley Rectory, built 1863 on the site of a Benedictine Abbey, after which emmediately footsteps would be heard late at night.

No one mentioned the AT & T building in NY? I have no idea what's in it, but its by far the most sinister building i've seen - an entirely windowless skyscraper!

soup or man December 2nd, 2008, 08:01 PM There is no city on earth that fascinates me more than Detroit. It has some of the most bleak, depressing, and just soulless areas as well as some of the most beautiful architecture anywhere. It is a perfect place to shoot a horror movie as the city itself could be the monster.
