Most of us here have traveled extensively (locally and abroad), I'm just curious how many of the 80 provinces plus Metro Manila of our beloved Philippines have you had the privelege to visit. Also relate any experience (the good, the bad and the ugly) you had with your visits.

I hope this thread will be an enlightening and educational process. Thanks!

i never went out of manila except to my province and baguio when i lived there. so whenever i go back to the phil. for vacation, i make it a point to visit one or two new places. i did mindanao three times. i drove one of our two-car convoy from cagayan de oro to camuguin, davao and dapitan spending a night or so at each "tourist spot'.

My AB neg blood is half Ilocano, half Tagalog.

The Tagalog part is from Malabon and from Tanauan, Batangas.

The Ilocano is from Sarat or Batac or something like that.

Wow, you're part Ilocano too! Can you speak/understand it?

been to yloilo, my hometown (lol)

next to capiz then to guimaras

gone to visit manila

got stuck to change a ship in bacolod for a ship bounding from manila to bacolod to yloilo (managed to be in bacolod port for 5-10 minutes only *take note, 5-10 minutes only - how long is that?*) puno na kasi ang barko papuntang yloilo, wala na, bacolod na lang ang next choice

then to cebu

then to manila again

managed to go to aklan for boracay (how far is that, at last ive managed to set foot in aklan, after more than 20 years in panay island)

love the city of baguio, looks fantastic

-----------

i wanted to visit cebu again, as my promise to the basilic, i hope ive got enough money to cater my visit there...

the infamous zamboanga i wanted to visit too...

antique is the only place in my home island where i havent set foot... wish i could visit it someday

I have no clue why they chose to settle in a remote location like bohol 0_o

And I have significant Chinese admixture (my mom knew how to speak "Fokkien" which is like Min-nan or something) and a little bit of Spanish admixture. It's mostly the Chinese that shows though, not the Spanish. ;) I still have the "Pinoy" skin color I think. :D

My family roots run deep in Bohol. However, if stories told by my Lolas and Lolos are true, my family also has Chinese and Indian traders in the mix. Seems like Bohol was not as remote as it seems today. This would truly be a good excuse to do an extended search for ancestral records in Bohol. :)

I still have a picture of my Great-Great-Grandfather which was compiled during our first family reunion.

Reunions are really pretty amazing. I didn't expect some classmates and schoolmates (college) and even some friends to "show" up.. I remember telling them "ey what are you doing here?" :colgate:

me too,...as it turns out a nearly half of my batchmates in highschool were related to me.... :colgate:

I believe Bohol back then was an important island for trade. I have Chinese ancestry from my grandmother from Panglao, Bohol too. I just do not know much about my great-grandparents because she died earlier. Here is an article about Spanish coins: http://www.bohol.ph/article110.html

Bohol History (http://www.camperspoint.com/article.php3?id_article=246)

Bohol already had contact with other civilizations even before the discovery of the Philippines. This was evident in the remains of people found in Anda Peninsula indicating the use of gold, jewelry and death masks, buried their dead in wood coffins and “enhanced” their women’s appearance by flattening and shaping their skulls.

Trade between Chinese began in as early as 5th Century, bringing wares and porcelain goods for their return to their mainland. Boholanos served as distributors, taking the Chinese goods as far as the Mollucas to barter with honey, spices and other items. This practice made Boholanos reasonably stable than other islands.

Panglao Island is said to be connected with the mainland through stilts in the shallow harbor of the strait. According to legend, Portuguese sailors demolished the town and abducted one of the queens, pushing Sultan Sikatuna to move his people to Bool, an area just outside Tagbilaran City. Other sultans moved its people to Mindanao.

When Legazpi arrived in the island, he signed a peace treaty with Sultan Sikatuna, contrary to how he took other places. Sikatuna’s friendly acceptance resulted to a peaceful agreement. Legazpi was impressed of the native’s lenient character and but his attention focused more on Bohol’s established economy.

The treaty between the two leaders was recognized for 45 years. Sikatuna’s baptismal just before his death caused a serious conflict with other Muslims. Despite their conversion to Catholicism, however, Boholanos never really submit to friar’s abuses. That’s enough reason for Dagohoy’s successful revolt in 1744. For 85 years Bohol stayed an independent region under the Spaniards but diminished its importance as a trading center.

In contrary to the island’s open acceptance with the Spanish, Bohol was not easily suppressed by the occupation of the Americans. They succeeded on keeping their independence even with the strong forces of the Japanese. They printed their own money and have supplied their own people with abundant produce of livelihood without the help of other islands.

Since 1945 Bohol remained a peaceful island with inhabitants used to independent living and equality between each other. Even when the Spanish left the Philippines, people who acquired possessions on lands never took power over low class farmers. Having equal relationship among each other kept their island one of the safest places in the Philippines.

Me - Iligan City

Mama (Miag-ao and Redondo) - Born in Pagadian but lived in Tagbilaran
Papa (Rara and Atwil) - Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte

I don't know where my grandparents come from but as far as I know, the Atwil clan traces back to Bohol. The Redondo clan and Miag-ao clan can be traced back in Bohol. And yeah, I have a Chinese blood. I don't know for the Rara clan though.

One thing is for sure: I don't have a Malay blood.
