I once worked on the Ffesstiniog railway and it's great news to hear that the Welsh Highland Railway has raised the money £8 million to build the extension from Rhyd Ddu to Porthmadog.

This means from 2008 you will be able to catch a Steam train from Caenarfon to Porthmadog and all the way to Blanau.

Which will make it the longest continous steam railway in the United Kingdom. I think all together the two connecting railways are going to be just under 40 miles long.

Full details of the extension can be found on:

Doing what?

I was a waiter on the trains.

I had six weeks to go between finishing university and returning to Zim so I went and worked there for four weeks.

It was great fun but hardwork as we had to carry trays of food and drinks whilst the trains would be bouncing you around on corners and as they were narrow gage, they are not built for space.

A friend of mine lost a tray load of drinks through one of windows when the train took a lurch on a corner

What was a bit bizarre, I went on the track bed once on the old Welsh Highland railway and was told one day it would be restored, but didn't realy believe them. It shows if you work hard at something the impossible can become reality.

When I say right next to it I mean right next to it.

My tent will only be 20m from the line. :)
