This Saturday it will a hundred years since FC Barcelona’s record goalscorer first played for the team
On February 25, 1912 a young Filipino of just 15 years called Paulino Alcántara first pulled on the first team shirt and scored three goals. When he retired in 1927, he had scored 369 goals in friendlies and official matches for the club.

Barça’s Filipino hero, 100 years on
(FIFA.com) Saturday 25 February 2012
With Lionel Messi now just 13 goals away from equalling Cesar Rodriguez’s final tally of 235, it has been widely written that Barcelona’s scoring record is about to fall. Not so. The magnificent Cesar might lead the way in competitive strikes, but a look at the Barça record books reveals a different name, that of Paulino Alcantara, atop its all-time scoring chart.
An amazing haul of 357 goals from as many appearances established this Filipino phenomenon among the club’s earliest icons, and the first of those goals came 100 years ago today – on a truly remarkable debut. Indeed, Alcantara features in Barça’s annals not only as its record goalscorer, but also as its youngest-ever debutant, as he took to the field against Catala SC aged just 15 years, four months and 18 days. And he didn’t just play either; he scored – three times! A legend had been born.

But do many Filipinos even know of or heard of this dude? Hardly. I bet many Pinoys are more familiar with Jeremy Lin than this legendary Filipino. Trouble is, owing to some discombobulated historical quirk, Filipinos imagined themselves fit for a sport only meant for tall people - basketball.
Imagine the infinite possibilites if Filipinos over the past and present generations had instead channeled their creative energies to more democratic sports meant for all people regardless of height - meaning futebol and boxing.

A lone Filipina made it to Forbes's inaugural list of Asia's Power Business Women, which honors noteworthy pathbreakers, many of whom have overcome significant barriers to become successful.
Among the honorees whose work ranges from Bollywood to banking is Teresita Sy-Coson, vice chairman of one of the biggest family-owned conglomerates in the Philippines, SM Investment Corp., with interests that include the nation’s most profitable and largest group of department stores and its number one bank, BDO Unibank.
Forbes also released "15 to Watch," which features businesswomen who are not on the inaugural list, but are strong candidates for the future. Forbes says its editors were struck by the number of up-and-comers who are "fast-tracking their careers by defying convention, disrupting traditional business models, and creating entirely new markets for growth."
The 43-year-old Summit Media president Lisa Gokongwei-Cheng was included on the list of women who are likely to be seen in future power rankings.
Both women are daughters of Filipino-Chinese taipans now in leadership positions in their fathers' empires. Gokongwei-Cheng’s Summit Media holds the Philippine franchise to the men’s magazine FHM — which early this week was embroiled in a “racist” cover controversy.
According to Forbes, the 61-year-old Sy-Coson sees herself as a manager who maintains the core rather than leads the group. This is despite being seen as heir apparent to her father, Chinese-Filipino Henry Sy, who has 42 SM malls in the Philippines.

Congratulations! He trully deserves to be a TOP CHEF, he won most of the cash prizes and even a car during the "quick fire challenges."
I remember when asked to cook something that represents who he is, he cooked a Filipino dish inspired by what his Filipino grandmother used to serve him as a child.

Lucio Tan, who owns, among others, Asia Brewery and Philippine Airlines, was the second richest Filipino, coming in at 314, with a $3.5 billion total.
Andrew Tan, whose Alliance Global Group Inc. includes the Megaworld Corporation and the Golden Arches Development Corporation, landed at 601 with $2.1 billion.
The youngest Filipino on the list at age 52, Enrique Razon Jr., was not far behind at 683, with $1.9 billion, thanks to his International Container Terminal Services company.
Rounding out the list are Eduardo Cojuangco at 960 ($1.3 billion) and Roberto Ongpin, 1153rd ($1 billion).
Last June, Forbes Asia also had Sy and Lucio Tan on top of their 'The Philippines' 40 Richest' list, with $7.2 billion and $2.8 billion respectively.
Present on the Philippines' list but not on the latest Forbes rankings were John Gokongwei Jr. ($2.4 billion in June), David Consunji ($1.9 billion in June), and Jaime Zobel de Ayala ($1.7 billion in June).
Forbes has been ranking billionaires for the past 25 years, estimating net worths by valuing "individuals' assets, including stakes in public and private comapnies, real estate, yachts, art and cash" while also accounting for debt.
This year's rankings were based on "a snapshot of wealth on February 14, 2012," incorporating figures and data up to that date.

There's just one thingy I have against it tho.  They the directors chose the weakest singer as head chef or somethin, that Indian dude. Kaya lang pinili coz of his British accent, nothing more. His singing is bland and uninspiring and he pales in comparison to the strong singers around him who're supposed to be his staff. Ok lang yung mga singaporean "managers" dun puede na dahil home court and it's their territory. But that Indian dude should be demoted to a lesser role.

MANILA, Philippines -- Another Filipino athlete makes the country proud.
Bodybuilder Roman “Dondon” Cortuna bagged the gold in the recent Arnold Classic Bodybuilding Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
Cortuna, a two-time Mr. Universe, topped the 75 kilogram category.
In an interview on ANC's Hardball, Cortuna said he trained for five months to achieve his goal of having just more than 2% of body fat during competition.
“I had to check out my body fat percentage before competing. For example if my body fat is 18%, I have to adjust my preparations. Instead of five months, I need six months. In that competition my body fat was just over 2%,” he said.
Rocky Dauden of the Unified Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation of the Philippines said Cortuna was able to overpower his competitors through his superior symmetry.
“In the stage kasi it's about symmetry. I was talking to him last week, he was saying karamihan daw ng kalaban, some Europeans for example, they may have big upper bodies pero pagdating sa legs, medyo mahina,” said Dauden. --

Fernando Amorsolo was born on May 30, 1892 in Paco Manila. In 1909 he went to the School of Fine Arts in the University of the Philippines. He was one of the first graduates in 1914. He went to study further in Spain through the sponsorship of a prominent Spanish man, Don Enrique Zobel, a naturalized Filipino. But, before Amorsolo left for Spain, he designed the ever popular logo "Marca Demonio" used as the label of the well-known Ginebra San Miguel. This logo showed St. Michael vanquishing the devil. A favorite drink in fiestas, weekend camaraderie, and other important celebrations, this graphic design eventually became the symbol of the Filipinos’ tenacity when facing adversities and crises; and also their vigilance to protect and fight for what is right.

From “text capital” to “social media capital of the world.” That’s how the Philippines would henceforth be known, thanks to four Filipino programmers who bagged a major prize at the recent Facebook Mobile held in Singapore.
Besting other programmers from several Asian countries, Jason Sia, Miko Ignacio, Melvin Fetalvero and Josh Basarte, programmers working for home-grown technology firm Chikka.com, won the “Hackathon’s” Best Mobile Open Graph award for creating “Hear Me,” an application that lets users post audio notes on their Facebook home page.
The term Hackathon was coined by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Featured in the Academy Award winning film “The Social Network,” Hackathons are Facebook’s main recruitment method for finding talented programmers to work for the Internet giant.

mwg12a March 26th, 2012, 02:55 AM I didnt realize that Noynoy almost died in an assassination attempt when he was younger back in 87, perhaps I was still young to even remember it happened considering there were too many incidents happened in the past especially when there were 9 coup attempts on Cory Aquino as President. Nice video on Malacanang at National Geographic. Thank you.
Bosnyboy March 26th, 2012, 05:41 AM Nat geo should have changed the title of the show to "A day in the life of the phil president". It was titled inside: malacanang but it didnt show its history, secrets, and other interesting stuffs but instead focused on the president. Its actually a paid infomercials just like those shows that centered on hk, malaysia and japan. Nat geo and discovery is currently showing everything about japan after japan decided to invigorate their tourism industry to help their economy.
wynngd March 26th, 2012, 07:20 AM ^^ I think tama pa din naman na Inside:Malacanang kasi Malacanang eh an icon where the president's seat of power lies. Kaya pwede din di ba... :)
Bosnyboy March 27th, 2012, 07:29 AM Id still say its a paid infomercial.
mwg12a March 27th, 2012, 07:37 AM I think pag national geographic, it doesn't mean it's about the history. I think gaya sa ibang episode nila, ang pinaguusapan kung paano pinoprotektohan ang presidente at paano ang mga training na ito. May episodes na ganito in the past, tungkol sa president at not necessarily about the history. I don't think it's paid advertisement, its what one episode of Nat Geo about Obama at white house where Chris Hansen was interviewing him and exploring the life of a president on a daily basis.
Bosnyboy March 28th, 2012, 06:28 AM The title was malacanang therefore people would assume its all about the palace and its history. But what they showed was about the people who serves pnoy and a day in the life of the presdent and so they should have renamed the title to something like "A day in the life of the people in malacanang" or something like that. If it was an advertisement then it was false advertising. Clearly paid docu, probably paid by press secretary's office to boost the presidents stature after people are criticizing the president for being lazy and a do-nothing president.

Clearly paid docu, probably paid by press secretary's office to boost the presidents stature after people are criticizing the president for being lazy and a do-nothing president.
Tingin mo ganoon? National Geographic? Mababayaran ba ang mga ito? I dont think I've ever heard National Geographic people are bought by anybody most especially by a politician or president of a country. World renowned at very credible ang mga ito kaya, I don't think so. Kung local agency ito na pinoy baka sakali pa. Although, nag banggit din naman kung sino ang mga umupo at kailan nagsimula ang malacanang. I dont think highlighted as very good president si Noynoy. Mas highligthed pa ang mga tao na nagsilbi sa presidente na nagsilbi din sa ibang presidente gaya nuon isa, nag silbi din kay Erap at Ramos I believe. So, I don't see it as paid advertisement kung mas binigyan ng pansin yuong mga tauhan na nagsisilbi sa presidente.

^^tomo.i was so excited pa naman to watch this tapos yun lang pala.after watching na realize ko na it wasn't about Malacañan Palace pala but the occupant.sayang lang.pang promotion na sana nang Pinas (yung pala docu lang about noynoy) to the int'l community :D

A favorite drink in fiestas, weekend camaraderie, and other important celebrations, this graphic design eventually became the symbol of the Filipinos’ tenacity when facing adversities and crises; and also their vigilance to protect and fight for what is right.

oh really? and what was the advocacy for the following pinoy world records:
largest mango pie
largest ten commandments
longest corn barbecue
longest line of coins
etc.
etc.
etc.
pnoy pride = desperately trying to cover up for pinoys' glaringly obvious shortcomings (poverty, lack of discipline, lack of innovation in science and technology, poor-quality education, etc.) by boasting about their talent in singing/dancing/crying (i mean, acting ) and pointless world records

Fraulein March 31st, 2012, 12:59 PM UP only Asian university in mock court tilt

UP law students show they're at par with world's best
WASHINGTON D.C. - Aspiring lawyers from the University of the Philippines appeared on track on vindicating their dismal showing at the last Bar exams, today becoming the only team from Asia and the Third World to enter the “Round of 8” in the largest moot court contest here.
Some 137 teams from 80 countries – from an original field of over 600 law schools – made it to the 2012 Jessup International Law Moot Court competition that culminates with the Jessup Cup World Championship on Saturday.
“We continue to be undefeated and today we won the run-off and the ‘octo-finals’ against Greece which means we’ve qualified for the quarterfinals. We’re now in the top 8 of the world,” lawyer Harry Roque Jr., the UP team coach, told ABS-CBN News.
UP will be competing against teams from Oxford, Columbia, Hastings, Oakland and Ottawa universities as well as law schools from Russia and Melbourne, Australia.
More significantly, one of the case studies tackled by the moot court was culled from the Vinuya “comfort women” case (petition seeking compensation from Japan for abuses committed during World War II) that’s reportedly one of the bases for the impeachment of Philippine Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.
“The problem is based on a case that was one of the reasons why the Chief Justice was impeached, ang kaso ng mga comfort women at kung tama ba ma-invoke ang state immunity ‘pag nagkaron ng paglabag sa tinatawag na ‘jus cogens’,” Roque revealed.
He does not believe this gave UP an edge, asserting that if they enjoyed any advantage it was in the Filipino law students’ passion for what Roque calls an injustice.
“Whoever wrote the case study based this on a case in the Philippine Supreme Court that still has not been resolved with finality,” he explained.
Roque said he doubts this was a coincidence because the Vinuya case has earned international notoriety for its various twists and turns – especially after Supreme Court Justice Mariano del Castillo was accused of plagiarism in the Vinuya “ponencia”.
The High Tribunal tried to sanction the UP College of Law after it called for Del Castillo’s resignation.
“The Vinuya case has garnered international attention because of the findings of plagiarism and the punishment imposed on the UP law faculty where there was an international appeal for the Philippine legal community,” Roque said.
“Human right defenders should not be victim themselves of human rights violations,” he added.
The UP law students’ impressive run in the moot court competition – said to be the biggest ever held – “is not only a vindication, it’s a better measurement of the quality of legal education we have in UP.”
For the first time in memory, none of the most recent Bar topnotchers were from UP.
UP beat Ateneo, San Beda, Silliman and the University of the Cordilleras to earn the right to compete in the Jessup international moot court contest.
The six-person UP team bested Boston College last Tuesday, Japan and Kenya last Wednesday and Greece and Argentina yesterday.
“We’re here competing with the best in the world,” Roque said.

Team Pilipinas All-Girls Elite, who won the inaugural championship last year, successfully defended their crown with a strong and fluid routine.
The members of Team Pilipinas All-Girls Elite were handpicked from several high school teams and trained by a team of coaches from various schools.
The Philippines also trained a strong team for the adult co-ed division, but they were unable to join the competition after missing their flight to Singapore.
Team Pilipinas All-Girls Elite topped two other Malaysian squads for the gold medal. Report from ANC.

Just another gig for bandleader Jun Simundo -- and more than $3,000 raised for a worthy cause.
For more than 25 years, Severo "Jun" Simundo, of San Pablo, has used his talents to raise money for charity. The 49-year-old letter carrier, who started out slopping pigs and planting corn on his family's farm in the Philippines, has raised more than $200,000 for hospitalized veterans, parents of murdered children and scores of other causes in the Bay Area.

The territorial dispute over Panatag Shoal has developed another wrinkle as several Chinese websites got defaced.
With the cries, "Scarborough Shoal is ours!" and "Spratly Islands is ours!" the website defacing is apparently in response to a similar move against the University of the Philippines' website Friday.
Sites that were hacked include star.chinaumu.org, v.cyol.com, ploft.cn, sanxinsudi.com, gh.rc.gov.cn, ryjzw.com, lanseyinxiang.com.
Two hackers claimed responsibility for defacing the websites.
One hacker is with Anonymous Occupy Philippines with code name Busabos a.k.a plague and the other goes by the hacker code Supra Dick.

The show of unity among them, is laudable and hopefully this force can be used for more beneficial endeavors. They get media mileage highlighting the culture, cooperation and exuberance of the people. It also highlights the products and industry of a certain town or region. And yes, novelty attracts attention so this could translate to more tourists.
sugbuanon April 27th, 2012, 10:13 AM Filipino Twins Launch New Assault Rifle Now Used By SWAT In US
Filipino twins Ferdinand and Francis Sy, born and raised in Cebu, south of Manila, have launched after four years of rigorous research and development both in the United States and in the Philippines, a modern combat weapon ‘that is accurate, easy to use and durable’ they aptly called ‘the Ferfrans Special Operations Assault Rifle or the Ferfrans SOAR.’
Derived from their first names, the brothers, who became adept after a long-time fascination for guns, pursued to create their new rifle design in a ‘mission’ to give an edge to the Philippines National Police-Special Action Force in combat weaponry, after reports in the 90s about a controversial armed robbery in the country where the local police were outgunned by robbers.
Ferdinand said one of the unique features of their new design was the weapon’s ‘rate reduction system,’ “What it does is it reduces the rate of fire, full auto fire to about 550 to 600 rounds per minute. A regular M4 will fire around 900 to a thousand rounds per minute. The rifle in full auto, it tends to climb up on you. With the rate reduction system in junction with the muzzle break, what it does is you have a better control of the weapon because it controls the muzzle rise and at the same it slows down the full auto fire, so now you can control it and point the weapon on fire at exactly the same place even in full auto fire. It will not climb up on you. So it's the combination of the rate reduction system and the muzzle break.”
This feature has made the 'new' weapon popular among enthusiasts here and abroad that it was now being used by several Special Weapons and Tactics or SWAT teams in the US, as well as the Chief Protection Unit of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Peru have also made their orders for the rifle.

I don't think it is an OA for Pinas. Sa tingin ninyo what country do most Guiness records come from? Kaunti nga lang ang Philippine entries doon. Mas OA naman yung mga ini-rerecord for Guiness doon sa mga Guiness shows sa Spain, Finland, Australia, France, US kung anu-ano ang mga ginagawa nila, like jumping with hands on the thumb of the foot, pinakamalayo ang range ng pagbato ng washing machine to name few.
At saka kung maipiprint man sa book, tatawaging "The Longest Rice Cake" diba maganda namang pakinggan iyon?

UN approves PH territorial claim to Benham Rise
By Kristine L. Alave

Benham Rise belongs to the Philippines.
The United Nations has approved the Philippines’ territorial claim to Benham Rise, an undersea landmass in the Pacific Ocean potentially rich in mineral and natural gas deposits, Environment Secretary Ramon Paje said.
“We own Benham Rise now,” Paje said in a media interview. “This is for future Filipinos,” he added, noting that the 13-million-hectare area off the coast of Aurora province has been shown to have rich mineral deposits.
Paje said the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (Unclos) sent the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) a letter last week informing the agency that the landmass is part of the country’s continental shelf and territory.
Benham Rise, a seismically active region facing Luzon’s eastern seaboard, is rising slowly to the surface of the Pacific Ocean, Paje said. Perhaps, in a million years—a blink in the planet’s geological time—it will be habitable, he said.
Larger than Luzon
The plateau is a massive formation of basalt, a common volcanic rock, and is within coordinates 119°30’E to 132°00’E and 12°10’N to 20°30’N latitude.
Paje said Benham Rise, named after an American surveyor, is larger in area than Luzon. It has been shown to have natural gas deposits and manganese nodules, vital in the production of steel, he added.
Despite Benham’s proximity to the Philippines and its location within the country’s exclusive economic zone, the government did not claim it until 2008. Then, the next year, the government submitted a formal claim to the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf. The Philippine submission noted that the country reserves the right to submit further claims in the area.
The Philippines is the sole claimant of Benham Rise. The country is currently embroiled in territorial disputes over several islands in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea).
China and the Philippines are feuding over Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal, 220 kilometers (124 nautical miles) west of Zambales province.
The Philippines and some of its Southeast Asian neighbors are also disputing with China and Taiwan ownership of parts of Spratly Islands in the West Philippine Sea.
The Spratlys are believed to be sitting on vast deposits of minerals and natural gas, in an area spanned by sea lanes vital to global trade.
IN THE KNOW
BENHAM RISE is a 13-million-hectare undersea region that lies east of Luzon and off the provinces of Isabela and Aurora.
Also known as Benham Plateau, it is a massive formation of basalt, a common volcanic rock, and is described in a study as a thickened portion of the Philippine sea plate’s oceanic crust.
The formation lies within the continental shelf of the Philippines as defined by the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (Unclos), under which a coastal state’s exclusive economic zone extends 370 kilometers (200 nautical miles) from its continental shelf, while its extended continental shelf extends for another 278 km (150 nautical miles).
Benham Rise is not subject to any maritime boundary disputes and claims.
Studies conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) have indicated large deposits of methane in solid form in the area.
In August last year, Environment Secretary Ramon Paje announced that the Philippines will gain additional territory should the United Nations approve the country’s claim to Benham, which the country submitted to the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf in New York on April 8, 2009.
According to Paje, an American geologist, Andrew Benham, discovered the area, which was between 40 meters and 2,000 meters below the waterline, in 1933. Paje said gas deposits in the area would enable the country to achieve energy sufficiency. Source: Inquirer Archives

MANILA, Philippines -- Two Filipino software engineers were among the top graduates of the free online Artificial Intelligence (AI) class that followed Stanford University's curriculum with an estimated 160,000 students from all over the world.
Tommy Lim Jr. and Jesu Petar "Pepe" Maglutac were taught by former Stanford professor Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig, the Director of Research at Google.
Lim graduated with a grade of 98 percent and finished at the top 10 percent of the class, while Maglutac got 87 percent.
Lim currently works at Orange & Bronze Software Labs (O&B), while Maglutac was part of the internship program for the same company. O&B is a Filipino software development firm specializing in Java and Android programming, and is a Google Enterprise partner in the Philippines.
The online course followed Stanford’s curriculum for the “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” class which Thrun taught at the university.
Thrun and Norvig offered the class online as an impulse decision after talking to colleagues about reinventing education. The 11-week course kicked off in October 2011 and attracted enrollees ranging from high school students, engineers, scientists, technology enthusiasts, and established software developers.

The Philippines, which has lately seen new record highs in stock market trading, is making good progress in creating a more favorable image in the international community, according to the Filipino chief executive officer of the Bank of Singapore.
“The image is improving a lot… It’s not the sick man of Asia anymore. There’s less corruption,” said Renato de Guzman, CEO of the global private bank, who was interviewed on the sidelines of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) annual meetings Friday.
According to De Guzman, the Philippines has learned well the lessons of the previous Asian financial crisis (of 1997), following which local banking regulators introduced an array of reforms that have kept the banking system “quite insulated” from the subsequent US financial crisis in 2008 and the lingering crisis in Europe.
“I think confidence is high,” said De Guzman who served as one of the panelists at a business forum within the ADB meetings sponsored by BNY Mellon. The forum discussed the impact of the US financial crisis three years after.
De Guzman helped build the franchise of Dutch financial giant ING in the Philippines, which was among the 10 new foreign banks allowed to set up local branches in the mid-1990s. He then relocated to Singapore to head ING’s Asian private banking business which was sold to the OCBC Group in early 2010. The Bank of Singapore, which he heads, is an OCBC subsidiary solely focused on the private banking business.

Everest Report shows PH now a mature location for Software Services – PSIA (http://www.tempo.com.ph/2012/everest-report-shows-ph-now-a-mature-location-for-software-services-psia/#.T6Y8Quj9MwA)
Posted by Online on May 2nd, 2012
Manila, Philippines – The Philippines is now considered as one of the five “mature locations” for software services in the world. This was revealed by Philippine Softwareing one Industry Association (PSIA) president Nora Terrado during the PSIA’s first general membership meeting for 2012 held in Makati City recently.
Terrado cited a report by Everest Group that the Philippines is currently ranked with China, Brazil, India, and Poland as mature locations for having more than 50 software services operators.
The Everest Group is an advisor to business leaders on the next generation of global services with a worldwide reputation for helping Global 1000 firms dramatically improve their performance by optimizing their front-, mid-, and back-office business services.
A combination of large scale campaigns to foreign markets as well as growing demand for outsourced work on software services have drummed up support for the Philippines’ software services sector. Couple this with the fact that new digital platforms, notably mobile phones and other handheld devices, are becoming more widely used by consumers, causing an influx of research and development into these areas, she added.
The Philippine software industry is growing at a sustained double-digit pace. In 2011, it grew 37 percent over the previous year and generated total revenue of US$993 million.
It is also among the fastest growing outsourcing sectors in the country, reporting a manpower growth of nearly 50,000 full-time employees last year.
Citing another report by research firm Gartner, Terrado said the Philippines can still compete against other countries that are offering software services, such as Vietnam, Ukraine, Argentina, and Chile largely because these countries are overcome by several challenges.
Among these are low wage rates, high employee attrition rates, visa issues, and increased financial and governance vendor scrutiny, among others.
“The countries that will overcome these hurdles will be the ones who will emerge to be more successful. The Philippines continues to surpass these concerns and we could emerge as among the most viable locations for outsourced software services,” Terrado said.
The IT executive added that there are certain trends in the information technology outsourcing (ITO) landscape that the software industry sector in the Philippines can take advantage of. For one, offshore clients are becoming smarter and are demanding more value-added services from their providers.
This leads to bundling of services that provides customers with a broad range of selections that will allow them to choose one vendor for most, if not all, of their outsourcing needs.
In particular, cloud computing and mobile data are among the new platforms where software development and service provisioning are occurring at a rapid pace. This entails some new learning for software developers and applications providers to be assured of a place in the global software services industry.
“We see platforms being used as a base for IT-based service offerings are not just labor-intensive but IT-intensive. And technology is shifting as the trend now is moving towards more mature cloud computing and mobility.”
But Terrado said that, while the Philippines is enjoying unbridled positive perception from the global market, it does not mean industry players should stay complacent.
Software companies, according to her, must still focus on competitiveness, enhancing market share and positioning, develop better talent, and build a cooperative network among relevant stakeholders.
Emphasizing the need to innovate and improve its services delivery models, she said, “software companies also need to provide greater, if not the best offerings that will compel companies to choose them over providers from other countries. Value-added services that enable customers to become better providers create brand loyalty, as well as draw attention from other would-be customers.”
“The Philippines is already in a leading position in the global sourcing market. To retain its position, the country’s software companies must anticipate, envision, maintain flexibility, think strategically, and make changes to create or sustain a viable future for the industry and the country,” she added.
Terrado said that PSIA targets to provide software services to other source geographies identified by the Everest report, which includes Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Finland, France, Italy, and Germany.

InfinitiFX45 May 10th, 2012, 12:36 AM Philippines remains texting capital of the world – study
by ROSALIE C. PERIABRAS | Manila Times | Thursday | May 10, 2012 | 00:00
The Philippines remains the SMS (Short Message Service) capital of the world, according to Ipsos Media Atlas Philippines.
The research company said that while 76 percent of people across urban areas have a mobile phone, the keenest group to own smartphones is the ABC+ upper socio group. By January 2012, 33 percent of that group hold one mobile phone.
“They have the money, and know it’s a must-get gadget,” said Carole Sarthou, managing director of Ipsos in the country.
“It’s becoming their new normal and is rapidly shaping how marketers engage with this important group of consumers. At the end of last year, just a quarter owned this device, so we can expect further rapid growth with up to half of this key group owning a smartphone by the end of 2012,” she said.
The main activity on smartphones continues to be SMS, yet again showing that the Philippines remains the texting capital of the world. Taking photos, playing games and listening to their favourite music are also popular.
Ipsos Media Atlas Philippines conducted the Nationwide Urban Media study with tracking surveys throughout the year, and a robust annual rolled sample of 8,000 interviews to ensure extensive sub-group analysis. It employs a combination of computer-assisted telephone interviewing (to pick-up socio ABC+) and face-to-face (broad C and DE) interviewing methodology. The survey was also designed to accurately measure media figures of newspapers, magazines, television, radio, mobile phone, cinema and the Internet.
Ipsos is the only independent market research company that is controlled and managed by research professionals.

icarusrising May 10th, 2012, 04:03 AM ^^ That's been for more than a decade already I think. Filipinos' engagement in social media is burgeoning as well. Socialbakers.com places the country in the top 8 position as more than 27 million Filipinos are in the social networking site Facebook or about 27% of the total population. With 92% penetration, the Philippines is “the social networking capital of the world” according to Comscore.

The Filipino-Swiss, who was fifth on the grid, made a strong start to move up to fourth. He was then promoted to second when two cars in front were penalised for false starts. After a safety-car period, he chased hard for victory and finished just 2.6 seconds behind the race winner.
The result means that Stockinger is the first Philippines national to finish on the podium in a major European single-seater series and at a Formula 1 race weekend.
It also lays the foundations for a strong title challenge from Stockinger and the Status GP team. With the leading eight finishers from today’s race reversed on the grid for tomorrow, he will start seventh. This will give him another chance for strong points in the race that acts as a curtain raiser to the Spanish Grand Prix.

I first met Caty Petersen in October 2010 through a mutual friend, who was convinced that I was the right person to write Caty’s story.
She divulged nothing more than that, asking me to just keep an open mind and join them for lunch, which at least promised to be a pleasant one; Kai was one of my favorite restaurants, and we hadn’t seen each other for months.
Caty rushed in, late and breathless and wide-eyed, a large brown envelope in hand, which she handed to me.
Over the next hour, I listened to her relate the highlights of a most unusual tale, riveting in many aspects, and somewhat incredible in others.
The story tumbled out of her, unrestrained. It was a search for roots.
Caty’s grandmother was Russian, but wasn’t someone she really knew that much about, and now she had pieced together a story that was clearly begging to be told. I convinced her to write the story herself.
So this is the story of her grandmother, but it is as much the story of Caty, whose journey of self-discovery really began over a century ago, in the heart of Russia.

Monique was born and raised in the Philippines (a Filipina of Cebuano, French heritage) while the young girl you're referring to Jessica Sanchez is AMERICAN born and bred - Filipina mother, and a Mexican American dad (Tejano.) the last of the romanovs was shown at DISCOVERY channel last month. i didn't pay much attention to it because i was busy doing my fishing hooks. parts i remember of the show... were investigations, theories, DNA matching and forensic studies of remains... where photographs of family members were computer superimposed on skulls for identification. it was suspected that there were some family members who escaped... and i changed program to HISTORY channel to watch WW II docu.
NOW, reading this article...i regret i didn't finish the program of the romanovs at DISCOVERY channel. turning to the internet, WIKIPEDIA seems to conclude that all members of the family were killed...but that assumption might be wrong after all. annastasia might have survived the massacre...as lola puti's story told to her grandchildren...perfectly matched the romanov household and lifestyle.
if lola tasia is still alive...she must come out in the open, and declare to the whole world if she is indeed grand duchess anastasia. it will be a very big news...and put closure to speculations there's nothing to be afraid of...as the bolsheviks and the communists are things of the past.

["In July 2007, 46-year-old builder Sergei Pogorelov (part of a team from an amateur history group who spent free summer weekends looking for the lost Romanovs) said that after stumbling on a small burned area of ground covered with nettles near Yekaterinburg he had discovered bones that belonged to "a boy and a young woman roughly the ages of Nicholas’ 13-year-old hemophiliac son, Alexei, and a daughter whose remains also never have been found."
March 2009, results of the DNA testing were published, confirming that the two bodies discovered in 2007 were those of Alexei and his sister Maria.
from WIKI:
DNA testing by multiple international laboratories such as the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory and Innsbruck Medical University confirmed that the remains belong to the Tsarevich Alexei and to one of his sisters, proving conclusively that all family members, including Anastasia, died in 1918. The parents and all five children are now accounted for, and each has his or her own unique DNA profile.[67][68] However, in the article[69] Dr. Michael D. Coble (et al.) wrote (see "Supporting Information", in comments to Fig. S1):
The identification of either Maria or Anastasia was not possible by DNA analysis alone.
Also, in the section "Discussion" of this article:[70]
It should be mentioned that a well publicized debate over which daughter, Maria (according to Russian experts) or Anastasia (according to US experts), has been recovered from the second grave cannot be settled based upon the DNA results reported here. In the absence of a DNA reference from each sister, we can only conclusively identify Alexei – the only son of Nicholas and Alexandra.
On 1 October 2008, Russia's Supreme Court ruled that Nicholas II and his family were victims of political repression and should be rehabilitated.[76][77][78] In March 2009, results of the DNA testing were published, confirming that the two bodies discovered in 2007 were those of Alexei and his sister Maria

‘Grandmama’s’ mystery identity: The quest goes on

It’s December 2011. While my husband is busy preparing the dinner he promised us later at home, I’m in Paloma Garcia’s place, a mere 15 minutes away, although the surreal experience I’m about to encounter will make me feel like I’m on a different planet altogether. Sitting in front of me is this unsophisticated and soft-spoken young man. I’ve never seen him before.
He’s a spiritual medium, who Paloma believes is genuinely gifted. This meeting is unplanned; he happens to be available today, and so I have come over to see if he can connect with the spirit of my Grandmama. Perhaps he’ll tell me why she has been appearing in my dreams, for weeks at a time.
A few feet away, in the adjacent dining room, are two people I trust completely, Paloma of course, and Emily [Abrera]. They are here to observe, and give me support. The medium lights a small white candle and asks me to write my Grandmama’s name, birth date and day she passed away. He also asks for my Grandmama’s photo.
He looks at everything, closes his eyes and appears to be praying. Silently I say a prayer too.
All of a sudden, I sense heaviness all around me; even the air in the living room feels oppressive and still. And I feel what I can only identify as extreme sadness and pain.
“There is a secret she has been keeping,” the medium’s voice, gentle yet urgent, startles me. He places one hand on his chest, “There’s also much pain. Look at your grandmother’s picture, at her eyes. They’re talking to you.”

I concur. I saw the episodes at the History Channel.
Indeed there is a lot at stake here. The Romanov descendants are still alive and doing quite well in Western Europe. They cannot just let any pretender drop in from out of the blue like the last Anastasia pretender who died in the 70s. It's all about the fabled Romanov family fortunes stashed away in W. Europe.
Instead of leading us all along a wild media goose chase, it would be better for this new claimant to submit herself to DNA testing vis-a-vis one of the Romanov living descendants. That would settle it.

Fans of Jessica won't like this...
Filipino viewers are throwing their support behind half-Pinoy Jessica Sanchez on American Idol and not for 100% Pinoy Cheesa Laureta who’s parents are from Cebu and Manila. Why is that? The colonial mentality interspersed with faux-nationalism is astounding.
One of my pet peeves is how many Filipino readers on this blog gravitate towards Pinoy singers on reality singing shows like American Idol based solely on their Filipino heritage. Ramiele Malubay and Thia Megia were prime examples of contestants who got a lot of traffic directly from the Philippines in the past, with Filipinos voting them to the top of the various polls that I ran (which was a headache because it didn’t reflect viewership in the US).
However, this year we have a case where we see a bit of irony in this “Filipino standard of excellence.”
Over at American Idol, we have Jessica Sanchez, a half-Mexican-half-Filipino singer, who is the toast of the town among Filipino viewers. She’s considered one of the front-runners this year. Her mother, Editha, is from Bataan. Her father, Gilbert, a Mexican-American, is from Texas. For the Filipinos who even “can’t believe” that she’s half-Mexican, Jessica talked about her father who was in the Navy when she auditioned for America’s Got Talent when she was a little girl.
Over at The Voice, we have another Pinoy contestant Cheesa Laureta who has been mostly ignored by Filipino viewers, with some Filipino commenters even claiming she’s NOT Filipino. It’s ironic because Cheesa has actually a 100% Filipino heritage and have roots directly from the Philippines. Her parents are from Cebu and Manila, and are immigrants. Her father Joseph Laureta, is of Ilocano, Tagalog, and Pangasinan heritage, while her mother, Martiniana Laureta, is a full-blooded Visayan.
So why aren’t Filipinos supporting Cheesa if they have traditionally gone nuts for Filipinos on these American reality shows?
Are Filipinos favoring Jessica because she’s only half-Pinoy and singing on a show called American Idol? Or is it because she sings like Charice and Filipinos think that everyone should be singing like Charice (and Filipino heritage is only incidental)?
You can’t even make a strong argument that American Idol is the more popular show now because The Voice has already beaten it a couple of times in the ratings.
Feel free to sound off in the comments.
Seriously, more Filipinos should be supporting Cheesa. She’s the underdog and Pinoys love that.
http://www.rickey.org/why-arent-filipinos-supporting-cheesa-laureta-like-jessica-sanchez/
mwg12a May 14th, 2012, 06:36 AM Absurd article. For one thing Jessica do have the voice, much much better than the previous filipina american who was included in top 10. I always thought Jessica's mom was from San Pablo. I thought I heard Jessica as saying these in one of the interviews she got from media. Is The Voice show as popular as American Idol because, I am guessing this maybe the case. More people are intuned with AI instead of The Voice.
Very nice chic wearable designs by Monique, not that I'll be wearing them.
Monique was born and raised in the Philippines (a Filipina of Cebuano, French heritage) while the young girl you're referring to Jessica Sanchez is AMERICAN born and bred - Filipina mother, and a Mexican American dad (Tejano.) She's always acknowledged her heritage. Unfortunately for some Filipinos, they seem to think they "own" her because of her Filipino heritage.
Actually, she did acknowledge her filipino heritage when in one episode, she said she spent the weekend with her parents eating FILIPINO FOOD. There were only 4 eliminated I believe back then.
March 30 ----- Filipino-Mexican contestant Jessica Sanchez said she wants to come to the Philippines to perform before her Filipino fans. She announced this in her official Twitter account when a fan asked her what country she wants to visit to perform.
In her previous interviews, Sanchez said she has never been to the Philippines but she is hoping she could visit one day. The 16-year-old singer was born to a Mexican-American father and Filipina mother, Editha, who originally hailed from Bataan province. She was born and raised in San Diego, California. Sanchez is the fifth contestant who has Filipino roots to make the Top 12 of the hit American talent search.
As the competition becomes even more intense as each week passes, Sanchez said knowing her family is watching helps her conquer her fears. She said they are a big part of her “Idol” journey from the start. When she passed the auditions in her hometown of San Diego, Sanchez said her family celebrated by eating Filipino food. http://www.home-harbor.com/index.php/public-home/11807-home-harbor-jessica-sanchez-wants-to-perform-before-pinoy-fans

what i have in my thought is what only usually happens in the movies. but people who do movies perceived things that they put in the movies from what happens in real life, right? to kill the members of a powerful royalty entails a more powerful group of men. so what i have in my thought is maybe the men who are related to those powerful killers could have manipulated the processes of establishing the "scientifically identified" remains of Anastasia so people would think that stories like this is merely a wishful thinking or ambitious or a fantasy or just a "whatever". Then, Russian govt agreed to the result of the study to shun them from any "responsibilities" or debt of gratitude that would mandate them in case the real Anastasia sought refuge in another 3rd world country.

ILM's Garcia lends expertise to Marvel tentpole

The Helicarrier from 'The Avengers.'

Among the more startling effects in "Marvel's The Avengers" are the Helicarrier, the combination airship and aircraft carrier that serves as the HQ of Nick Fury's Shield.
Both were realized with the help of one of Industrial Light & Magic's Rene Garcia, who specializes in making f/x of hard surfaces look real.
ILM visual effects supervisor Jeff White calls Garcia the go-to guy for huge, complex models. "He's amazingly fast at building highly complicated scenes, but detailed in his work."
Garcia says that on such a big set like the Helicarrier, it's difficult to convey scale. "If we just put in similar sized details, it would look like a toy," he says. The solution: Include details both large and small, such as ladders, cables and light fixtures, which establish the proportion to the human figure. "Adding real-life objects definitely helps the sense of realism that we want to convey," he says.
http://images1.variety.com/graphics/photos/_mugg/garcia_rene.jpg
Garcia
A native of the Philippines who moved to Virginia at age 11, Garcia grew up fascinated with anime robots, but never imagined himself working in animation or visual effects. After art school in Washington, D.C., he applied to Magnet Interactive Studios, aiming for a job in graphic design. "I showed my sketches, which were more like 3D drawings of robots and spaceships and cars," he says.
Magnet hired him and assigned him to learn CG animation for a new department. Later, when the company opened a small vfx operation in Los Angeles, he was part of the team that set it up.
After breaking into movies on "Volcano," he worked on vfx for the "Matrix" movies, the "Transformers" pics and the reboot of "Star Trek." As to the secret of his success in that initial interview with Magnet? "I was in the right place at the right time," he laughs.

"Her possible survival has been conclusively disproven. In January 2008,
Russian scientists announced that the charred remains of a young boy and
a young woman found near Ekaterinburg in August 2007 were most likely
those of the thirteen-year-old Tsarevich and one of the four Romanov
grand duchesses. Russian forensic scientists confirmed on April 30, 2008, that the remains were those of the Tsarevich Alexei and one of his four sisters.[1] In March 2009 the final results of the DNA testing were published by Dr. Michael Coble of the US Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory, proving conclusively that the remains of all four Grand Duchesses have now been accounted for, and no one escaped."
However, the theory that Caty Petersen's Grandmama Tasia could really be Russia's Grand Duchess Anastasia (or at least that she was a member of the royal family) *could* be true. The similarities are too many to be a coincidence. Oh, come on, how many girls are the youngest of four sisters, had a sister named Maria, and had a younger brother named Alexei? It's not wishful thinking -- it could actually be true, even if it was confirmed that no one escaped the massacre. Who knows, maybe the US Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory isn't telling the truth or that Anastasia's escape was covered up. But it's also possible that Grandmama Tasia is simply an impostor.
However, I just wished that Grandmama Tasia was still alive (I'm pretty sure she's dead) so they could prove, once and for all, whether or not she was Anastasia or at the very least Russian royalty. But they can still check Caty's DNA, as well as the other descendants of Grandmama Tasia and her husband Lope Pelayo.

MANILA, Philippines – Homegrown quick-service restaurant Jollibee is one of the best fast food chains in the world, according to an influential American magazine.
The restaurant, known for its fried chicken, spaghetti and burgers, is one of the dining spots featured in Travel + Leisure’s “Best fast food chains in the world” feature, which is part of the magazine’s May 2012 issue.
“Fast food gets a Filipino twist at this quick-serve chain, which is so beloved that its mascots star in their own children’s television show,” author Jamie Feldmar wrote in the Travel + Leisure article.
“There are more than 700 locations across the country, serving anything from fried chicken and hamburgers to local favorites like palabok, rice noodles with meat sauce, shrimp and hard-boiled egg.”
The magazine also suggested what first-timers should order at the fast food chain. “Spicy Chickenjoy, fried chicken coated with chili powder.”
Jollibee has been a household name in the Philippines for its Filipino-style fast food fare. What started as a two-branch ice cream parlor in 1975 is now considered the largest and most popular fast food chain in the country.

CCA-MANILA student Maria Arneli Flores bags the silver medal, the highest in the Ethnic Asian Meal category, at the 35thWACS Congress in Daejeon, South Korea.
It took them only less than three weeks to create dishes that would win international awards and recognition for their culinary school and their country.
Interestingly, it was how Philippine representative Maria Arneli Flores gave a modern twist to the traditional Vietnamese spring roll.
A student of the Center for Culinary Arts-Manila, Flores, instead of using lettuce and aromatic leaves in the roll, stirred up the aromatic leaves of mint and basil into a thick pesto sauce and used it as dipping sauce for the spring rolls. She left the spring rolls unwrapped, but filled with pork, prawns, crab meat, wood ear mushrooms and vermicelli noodles.
Flores won silver for her Vietnamese spring roll and other dishes. CCA chef-instructor May Martinez won bronze for her pralines.
Both won in the display category at the 35th World Association of Chef Societies (WACS) World Congress held in Daejeon, South Korea, last May 1-5.
This global culinary competition, endorsed by WACS for the first time in Korea, drew chefs from all over to show off their skills and techniques.
Flores, 25, presented three courses in the Ethnic Asian Meal/Contemporary Korean-Senior Category.
Aside from her appetizer Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Flores presented an entrée (Stuffed Spicy Duck in Orange Sauce with Stir-fried Rice in an Omelette Crepe with Broccoli Fan); and a dessert (Rice Cake stuffed with Purple Yam Filling topped with Sesame Tuile, Vanilla-flavored Red Pearls with Coconut Pandan Sauce).

KnightOfTheFlag May 20th, 2012, 04:56 AM 'America's healthiest drink' is made in the Philippines
'America's healthiest drink'
MANILA, Philippines - An organic coconut water drink once named by Health magazine as "America's healthiest beverage" is proudly made in the Philippines.
Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory L. Domingo told ABS-CBN News that O.N.E. organic coconut water is manufactured in the Philippines but is sold in export markets such as the US.
The product was praised as an example of how the Philippines' coconut product exports can be packaged in an attractive way for the foreign export markets.
O.N.E. organic coconut water is made with coconuts from the Philippines and packaged in shiny blue Tetra Pak cartons. The stylish but eco-friendly Tetra Pak packaging allows the coconut water to remain fresh and can be stored for months without refrigeration.
According to its website, the coconut water drink is a product of O.N.E. One Natural Experience, an all-natural beverage company founded by Brazilian businessman Rodrigo Veloso. He launched the company in Los Angeles, and introduced O.N.E. organic coconut water at Whole Food Markets in 2006.
The drink quickly became the number one alternative beverage sold in the supermarket chain's outlets in southern California.
The website said Health magazine even named the drink as "America's healthiest beverage" for providing enhanced hydration, essential nutrition and all five essential electrolytes (calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous and sodium).
A dozen 11-oz O.N.E. coconut drinks is being sold for $21 on Amazon.com.
Coconut products are one of the Philippines' top exports.
As of June 2011, the Department of Trade and Industry reported a 14.9% decline in exports of coconut products year-on-year mainly due to supply restrictions.
However, year-to-date sales improved by 48% because of improvements in exports of higher value-added products such as coconut oil and desiccated coconut.
In contrast, lower value-added products such as copra and copra meal or cake declined by 43% and 19% respectively.
"These data reflect the path of coconut sector towards moving up more export products in the value chain as contained in the Philippine Export Development Plan 2011-2013," the DTI said.

KnightOfTheFlag May 20th, 2012, 04:57 AM Homegrown raw materials eyed for anti-aging products
CEBU, Philippines - All-organic beauty and body care maker, Gandang Kalikasan Inc., (GKI) announced that it will venture into the growing “anti-aging” market, using all Filipino-grown raw materials from fruits, flowers and vegetables.
“We have a lot of resources here that can be used as primary raw material for anti-aging products. We don’t have to look far, we have the rich resources here,” said GKI president Anna Meloto-Wilk in an interview.
This year, GKI will introduce a few anti-aging products, after the company will close a deal with a third party to formulate its own organic anti-aging products, that will uphold the brand’s strict regulation on providing all-natural and organic products for the market.
Although, Wilk refused to divulge the main ingredient for its initial anti-aging cream, and beauty products that will be introduced soon, she said that this move will help more farmers generate more revenues.
In a report released by the Euromonitor International, it indicated that skin care market in the Philippines is seen to grow by US$915.4 million in the next four years.
Euromonitor, which is a research firm for consumer markets, further added that nourishers or anti-aging products recorded the most vibrant performance in 2010 fueled by an influx of affordable brands which attract the middle-income customer based.
The anti-aging market segment alone in the Philippines is projected to grow by US$105.8 million by 2015.
According to the report, unlike in the western countries where many aging women are extremely concerned about developing wrinkles, particularly “crow’s feet”—which appear around the corners of one’s eyes, Filipinas are more concerned about developing age spots, more than wrinkles.
Base on the survey, the Philippine consumer now a-days become more discerning in terms of skin care, thus manufacturers are challenged to continue to upgrade their product lines by introducing much more effective products which make use of the new advances in skin care technology.
Unlike before, the survey further indicated that Philippine consumers also became more conscious about the brand of skin care product they are using.
“Consumers mostly rely on the availability of information online and pay more attention to product labeling and information detailing—the technology used in the development of particular product,” the report said.
Wilk said despite the entry of more affordable anti-aging products in the Philippines, Human Nature brand of GKI is seen to make a hit, while consumers are now more conscious of the formulation mixed of a product, with strong awareness on avoiding more chemical infusion into a product.
Besides, Wilk said one of the achievements of Human Nature, is its ability to make its credible organic products affordable to the mainstream market, unlike in the past that organic goods can only be accessed by the middle to higher end consumer based.
This time, that GKI has discovered a lot of Philippine-grown plants that are much effective for anti-aging products, both the market and the farmers will be able to benefit by this move.
“We are taking different stand. We cant just formulate a product because of its strong demand. We have to examine and study its feasibility, if its possible to develop avoiding a mixture of chemical formulations,” Wilk added.— (FREEMAN)

KnightOfTheFlag May 20th, 2012, 04:59 AM Philippine-made Ford Focus is Top Gear Indonesia's Car of the Year
The Philippine-made Ford Focus TDCi bested four other finalists in the recent Top Gear Indonesia Car of the Year Awards, proving once again that locally-assembled cars are of world-class quality.
"We're both honoured and proud to have Ford Focus TDCi named 'Car of the Year' by Top Gear Indonesia," Ford Motor Indonesia president Will Angove said. "The Focus TDCi represents an incredibly sporty vehicle that combines style, comfort, fuel efficiency and technology to deliver exceptional appeal."
Ford said Top Gear Indonesia cited the Focus TDCi's "substantial design improvements, particularly the significant upgrade to its ergonomic interior" as its winning factors. The magazine also said the Ford Focus TDCI's Duratorq turbodiesel engine and new six-speed double-clutch PowerShift automatic transmission makes the five-door hatchback a versatile performer in various driving situations--whether it's climbing, passing, cornering, or simply dealing with the stop-and-go city traffic.
Ford also quoted Top Gear Indonesia saying the Focus TDCi has an "expressive and contemporary" design and is "a pleasure to drive."
As Car of the Year, the Philippine-made Ford Focus TDCI is on the cover of Top Gear Indonesia's February issue.
"The Top Gear Indonesia 'Car of the Year' award is another testament of Ford's commitment to delivering a world-class lineup of Ford vehicles to Indonesian consumers," Angove said.
The Ford Focus TDCi is just one of the award-winning vehicles made by Ford in its Sta. Rosa plant. Last year, the same Ford Focus was named the best diesel-fed hatchback while the Ford Escape was cited as the best gasoline-fueled sport-utility vehicle during the Bangkok International Motor Show.
