Marsh Way Area, Wakefield

The most important City Centre development for more than 20 years.

Following consultations and publicity a revised planning application for the scheme submitted by the developers Simons Estates, was approved by Planning Committee 9 December 2004.

Not simply a New Market and Shopping Centre but a New Quarter for the City Centre integrating fully with the existing centre and surrounding areas, including:-

new market hall
new outdoor markets
new city centre library
supermarket
department store
new public square
900 car parking spaces
64 apartments within the scheme

Estimated Timescale

Planning Process Complete - Winter 2005
New Market Hall - Start Spring 2006
Re-route Marsh Way - Start Spring 2006
Start Main Scheme - Autumn 2006
Completion - July 2008
