Bali, a tropical island in the Indonesian archipelago, is so picturesque and immaculate it could almost be a painted backdrop. It has rice paddies tripping down hillsides like giant steps, volcanoes soaring up through the clouds, dense tropical jungle, long sandy beaches, warm blue water, crashing surf and friendly people who don't just have a culture but actually live it. In Bali spirits come out to play in the moonlight, every night is a festival and even a funeral is an opportunity to have a good time.

Bali Island, the perfect holiday destination for all ages offers something for everyone. This tropical paradise has a unique blend of modern tourist facilities combined with wonderful shopping and a rich past and heritage. The Balinese people are proud of having preserved their unique Hindu culture against the advance of Islam, the dominant religion throughout Indonesia. This is still reflected in day to day life and can be seen in the numerous ceremonies, Balinese festivals and magnificent temples and palaces. Some of the best surfing beaches in the world can be found on the western side of the island whilst conversely the eastern side is a wonderful haven for families, with beautiful white sand beaches and gentle seas.

Bali Island is a shopper's paradise particularly for casual and tailored clothing, locally made jewellery, handicrafts, antiques and artifacts. Leather ware is one of the unexpected local bargains with everything from handbags through to tailor made leather jackets and coats, all at unbelievable prices. In fact, prices are so inexpensive, you're sure to need more room in your suitcase! Try bargaining at the street markets of Kuta, Sanur of Nusa Dua or fixed price shopping at a Denpasar department store. Bali has it all.

For those that want to stay wet, Bali Island has world class scuba diving, snorkelling and wonderful day trips out to Nusa Penida for beach sports and coral viewing.

When the sun sets, the choices are still hard to make - a quiet romantic moon lit dinner or watch the spectacular Balinese Fire Dance or Kecak Dance. For those that want to party, Bali Island has it all with bars, discos and nightclubs.

As a truly international destination attracting visitors from all over the world, restaurants in Bali are extremely cosmopolitan yet inexpensive. Experience not only local delicacies like Nasi Goreng and Sate Campur but also Chinese, Malaysian, Japanese, Italian/European Greek, Moroccan and even Mexican cuisine. We must not forget Bali's wonderful seafood - local lobster at such prices that you will want to keep coming back for more.

For those more culturally inclined, Bali can offer the peace and tranquility of Ubud high in the hills; the spectacular Mother Temple at Besakih; the ancient capital of Bali, Singaraja and the floating palace at Ujung near the pretty beach area of Candi Dasa. The Scenery is nothing less than spectacular. Jungle, picturesque hillside rice terraces and the awesome magnificence of Kintamani Volcano.

The more active, wanting a break from the idyllic beaches, can experience wonderful golf courses in the mountains at Bedugul and beachside at Nusa Dua, the thrill of white water rafting or kayaking down the beautiful Ayung River; mountain cycling amid scenery you will never forget and organized rice paddy and jungle treks to see the side of Bali most tourists never encounter.

Bali Island, a truly international destination, offers every standard of accommodation ranging from charming yet modest bungalow style hotels in lush tropical gardens for the budget minded through to arguably amongst the most exclusive and sophisticated hotels in the world!

WORLD'S BEST Hotels
In the past decade, no region of the world has dominated our hotel rankings like Asia. This year marks the sixth time the No. 1 spot has been occupied by an Asian property, and the seventh that Asian hotels have claimed the lion's share of the top 10.

Top 5 Hotels Overall

1 Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan 95.00
Although Sayan is topping our charts for the first time, this is actually the second year readers have rated a Balinese Four Seasons No. 1: Sayan's sister resort at Jimbaran Bay finished first in 2001.

2 Singita Private Game Reserve, Sabi Sand, South Africa 94.57
Last year's winner is the only African property to crack the top 10 in 2005.

3 Oberoi Rajvilas, Jaipur, India 94.00
Rajvilas beats its own record, set last year, as the highest-ranked Indian hotel in the history of our survey (it was 29th in 2004).

4 Four Seasons Resort, Chiang Mai, Thailand 92.84
With nine properties in this year's top 100, Thailand is the most represented country after the United States.

5 Château Les Crayères, Reims, France 92.33

Aguilera-Bratman Bulan Madu di Jimbaran

Christina Aguilera (Yahoo! News/REUTERS/Fred Prouser/Files)Los Angeles, 2 Desember 2005 13:34

[EL]

I just returned from a 30 day vacation on Bali (and 5 days on Ambon) and I must say it was the best vacation I ever had. I felt completely safe and relaxed on Bali. I never feared terrorism for a single moment and the only time I realised that I was in a place that has suffered useless violence was when I walked past the burnt out Raja's restaurant in Kuta. This was the first time I've been to Indonesia or Asia even and now I am totally in love with Indonesia and especially Bali. The Balinese people are the friendliest and most loveable people I have ever met (plus the women are super pretty :) ) I will definitely go back again and I'm recommending Bali to everyone who wants to hear it. I left Bali with pain in my heart (sakit hati) and it's really tough to be back home here in cold Holland. Bali truly is paradise.

What's the latest development in Bali?

Blue_Sky
April 4th, 2006, 05:16 AM
The tradition is performed on Ngembak Geni Day, the day following Nyepi, or the Hindu Day of Silence, which fell on Thursday.

The public display of youthful affection carried new meaning this year, with the porn bill currently being debated in the House of Representatives. Bali was the first province to formally reject the bill, with strong opposition to what local people see as potential constraints on their cultural traditions, as well as to the tourist industry on the resort island.

Despite the lashing of the city by tropical cyclones, crowds lined the streets to observe the sacred ritual. Young women waited shyly, while the boys, many from local Hindu youth organizations, seemed impatient for it to get underway.

Their wait went on, with a number of obligatory rituals to be performed, including a stunning performance of the Barong mythical lion dance. When the dancer was in a trance, it was taken as a sign of the gods' blessing of the omed-omed ritual.

The boys then set off in pursuit of the girls, with some shy pecks on the cheek or, for the bolder types, a kiss on the lips.

Local elders say the ritual dates back to the Oka Sesetan royal family, and the order of one of its ailing members for the local community to keep quiet on Nyepi. The people relaxed and enjoyed themselves instead, and the nobleman found that their unabashed merriment also lifted his spirits.

The tradition has not always been to the liking of outsiders, said community elder Pekak (grandfather) Item.

"The Dutch colonial government banned the tradition, as did the Indonesian government soon after independence," the 90-year-old said.

In the 1970s, local authorities also put a stop to the ritual.

Locals say strange occurrences began after the ban, such as widespread outbreaks of illness. Villagers believed the gods were angry and the omed-omedan ritual was revived.

"Here, we are having fun with all the village members," said Ketut Wiryani, a participant in the ritual in her youth.

"Now, I have two children and the younger residents must keep up the tradition."

Dreamland, Daya Tarik Pantai Impian Bali

Airnya pun masih begitu bersih, sebening kristal.

Selamat menikmati pantai impian Anda!

BOUNTY-next to apache
lousy bar/club, play very lousy music, cheap drinks

FUEL- jl. Legian, few meters after ground zero
trendy bar, play good music, PRICEY

M BAR GO- opposite fuel

SEMINYAK AREA

DE JA VU-jl.Double Six

Nusa Dua is a perfect place for honeymoon
Exclusive and far from crowded tourist

You can take ur dinner as in post 107 this page
See sunset in Tanah Lot
And try to have beach party in Seminyak (voted as one of the best beach party spot on earth)

Or try Christina Aguilera honeymoon to go kayaking there

here's a tip: when someone try to sell something to you and you don't want it, don't Ignore the seller but say no(or in Indonesian => tidak or gak(read engak) ) or nod your head no. and also when somebody says they're doing a holiday survey (especially in kuta) just say no to them because they're also proly trying to sell something to you.. :)

hi guys. as some of you already know that i'm a part time bali resident and i'd like to contribute to this thread. there's an article on the bali times regarding the massive redevelopment of the dreamland / pecatu areas in south bali (a brand new westin hotel, golf courses, villa development, etc) and they're going to name it "new kuta beach. i'm not sure if i like that name though, anyway here's the article:

http://www.thebalitimes.com/2007/08/02/dreamland-to-be-renamed-‘new-kuta-beach’-as-pecatu-area-to-get-resort/#more-1578

The idea is good because Bali's main beach right now is too crowded sometimes
We need more development to spread the crowd

Btw the name of the new beach is not new kuta beach
Notice that the article wrote it 'The New Kuta Beach'
It means that it will be something like kuta beach

But I could be wrong though

Ketika Garuda masih melayani rute penerbangan langsung Brisbane-Denpasar, tiket PP maskapai penerbangan ini tergolong "murah", yakni hanya sekitar 500 dolar Australia, katanya.

"Mereka umumnya `back packer`.

coming from a non-indonesian perspective on bali: my husband and i had been looking to buy a weekend villa in indo, msia and thailand. we chose bali over koh samui in the end. visually (beach wise etc) koh samui is drop dead gorgeous, however bali offers much, much more than just a beach "scene". when you're tired of the beach, you can go up to the mountain, lakes, do river raftings, visit ubud and other artsy villages. you can't find any of these things in let's say phuket, koh samui and langkawi. the other thing is the balinese peope are very, very accepting people.

if you've been to bali recently, you'll notice a lot of villa development targeting the (mostly) foreigners. even today there are a lot of expats living in bali, some full time, some part time. and these expats opened businesses, restaurants, hotels, bars, clubs etc. so in bali if you want to have an authentic italian or french meal (meaning the chef is actually an italian or french expat) for eg, you can have it. the other thing is that some of the expat owned business have that 'trendy' factor that would attract all the beautiful people. i think in most other holiday destinations, people are kind of stuck in their hotels once they're done with the beach, meaning you have to go to your hotel's bar or restaurants. not in bali, there are so many fabulous places to go outside of your hotel.

for me and my husband that's the reason why we chose to buy a property in bali. as a matter of fact, i'm going to quit the airlines sometime next year to reside in bali fulltime and hopefully start a family. because of the large expat population, bali actually has quite a few international schools catering to expats living in bali fulltime with their kids.

i agree, i think personally bali beaches are not the best that i've seen in south east asia. but like i said before, the advantage that bali has is that it offers much more than the beach scenery (i never understand why people find kuta to be beautiful to be frank... it's quite kotor). also the exisiting expat population helps to attract other expats/tourists to visit the island and actually make some serious investment (buying villas, opening up businesses etc.)

the next big thing in indonesian's real estate development to attract foreign investors is lombok (and to a certain degree batam/bintan, because they could easily attract my fellow singaporeans as their weekend villa without traveling long distance). in certain part of lombok, some villa development are starting to get rather expensive (approx us$600,000 and up). of course you can still get affordable villas, but the fact that they're starting to build super luxurious hotels and villa tells you that lombok is going to be the next big thing in real estate development.

Yup, you're right...

FYI, Lombok and Bali are just small parts of Indonesia that well developed and known by foreigners... There still plenty beautiful land in other parts of Indonesia that haven't been well developed or known by foreigners. Frankly it has the potential to be another paradise as good as Bali or Lombok...

Jimbaran - On the west side of the isthmus is one of Bali's finest beaches, curving for five kilometers from just south of the Ngurah Rai International Airport to the jutting cliffs of the eastern Bukit. Large waves don't break on this shore as the entrance of Jimbaran Bay is blocked by unbroken coral reef which only small prahu can transverse. Since the last two decades, Jimbaran Bay has grown fastly. Many new tourism facilities has been built. Now some of the most prestigious hotels in the world such as Four Seasons Resort and The Ritz Carlton have been built in this area. Puri Bali, Mimpi Resort and Bali Intercontinental are some accommodations which offer competitive facilities and amenities in this area. Which one is your choice ?

^^ ohh gak pernah dengar.

Ngurah Rai airport to be expanded
Ni Komang Erviani , Contributor , Badung | Tue, 09/09/2008 10:22 AM | Bali

State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I will expand both the domestic and international terminals of Denpasar's Ngurah Rai International Airport to turn it into one of the best tourism airports in the world, an official said Monday.

"Expansion work will be carried out on both the domestic and international terminals, but not on the airport's runway," said Heru Legowo, head of PT Angkasa Pura I's Bali office.

Under the expansion project, the total area of the domestic and international terminals will be increased from the current 83,000 square meters to about 200,000 square meters, with 130,000 square meters for the international terminal and 70,000 for the domestic terminal.

At present, the international terminal measures 70,000 square meters, while the domestic terminal measures 13,000 square meters.

Heru added the project was expected to also increase the airport's passenger handling capacity from the current 10 million per year to 16 million.

The project is estimated to cost up to Rp 1 trillion (US$110.10 million). The existing domestic terminal will be altered into the international terminal, while the international terminal will become the domestic one, he said.

"The project plan was proposed to the office of the State Minister for State Enterprises... We are awaiting its approval," he said.

"It's not easy to attain the status of one of the best tourism airports in the world. We have to work hard, and this expansion project is one of our approaches to realizing it," Heru added, saying the project would be completed within three years.

"We hope to have an airport with more spacious terminals by 2011," he said.

He added the project would focus on the relocation of several official houses owned by PT Angkasa Pura I, located in the northern part of the airport.

The airport terminal expansion plan was warmly hailed by Ngurah Wijaya, head of the Bali Tourism Board, who said existing facilities were inadequate for tourists.

The mushrooming of retail outlets in the narrow terminal has given visitors a bad first impression, he said, adding that they made the existing terminals "look more like a mall than an airport".

"We need a more spacious and comfortable airport with many more seats," he said.

Wijaya said the project was very important to guarantee convenience, badly needed by the airport as the island's main gateway.

"The first impression most tourists get, whether good or bad, is from the airport," he said.

"If their first impression is bad, the tourists will not feel comfortable for the rest of their stay in Bali."

Best Holiday Destinations, Asia

Polling holiday destinations is always fun, but tricky. Dreams are peculiar to countries and communities. Just as the westernised Japanese race to the beach to revel in the sun, Indians head for shade and cool hill resorts. Shopping-mad Hongkongers head for the malls, Australians chase the surf and Brits sip Singapore slings in musty colonial retreats.

There were few surprises and no changes in the 2008 Top Three. Ranked first as the Best Holiday Destination in Asia with 14 percent of the vote (compared with 23.2 percent in 2007) is the other worldly “Island of the Gods”, Bali, Indonesia. The island ranked first on our poll in 2006 and 2007 too. Bali has retained its disarmingly honest and simple charm. It remains a peaceful ritual-minded Hindu enclave in a bustling Muslim country. Above all, despite the burgeoning ranks of the t-shirt vendors and temple touts, Bali still retains a great deal of authenticity. The percentage drop in the vote reflected not Bali’s demise, but a more evenly spread interest among voters in 2008. Still, Bali’s share – even as the rest of the vote was spread thinly among several competing destinations – is almost double its nearest rival.

Voted the second best destination for an Asian holiday was the eternally popular Thai island of Phuket, which garnered 7.6% of the vote. This island (linked by a bridge) was voted in second position in 2006 and 2007 as well. It held its position easily despite troubles in south Thailand and political uncertainties. Clearly, its string of wonderful beaches, fine food, nightlife and that special Thai can-do hospitality, remain a big draw for travellers. In general, Thailand remains a big favourite as our Top Ten List suggests.

Ranked third best Asian holiday destination (as in 2006 and 2007) is the South Indian idyll of Kerala, long a favourite of the get-away-from-it-all crowd. Known for its verdant rice paddy fields, cool mountains clad in mist-wreathed tea estates, beaches, and welcoming, literate, head-nodding population, Kerala is one of two Indian destinations in the 2008 Top Ten.

Following closely in fourth position (up one position from 2007) is the picture-postcard but expensive getaway of the Maldives with five percent of the vote. Basking in reflected glory, several Maldives resorts also polled well in other categories. Ranked fifth best Asian holiday destination is a neon-powered metropolis, the universally popular Hong Kong, one of two vibrant cities to rank as a top holiday destination. Hong Kong held sixth position in 2006 and ranked fourth in 2007. Doubtless, shopping was a major draw as underlined by the results for the “best cities for shopping” category. Hong Kong pulled 4.1 percent of the vote.

Ranked in sixth place is Bangkok (no change since 2007) with 3.8 percent, followed by Boracay in seventh spot and Palawan and Chiang Mai sharing eighth. Both Philippines destinations (Boracay and Palawan) fared well in 2007 too – jointly ranked seventh at the time. Angkor (Siem Reap, Cambodia) cruised into ninth place with Koh Samui and Rajasthan jointly bagging tenth.

Our poll revealed the continued dominance of Thailand as a "holiday brand" with four destinations in this Top Ten, and the strong emergence of India. Bali held top spot demonstrating that integrity can attract visitor votes, and dollars. This is a reassuring message in an age of instantly bottled and serially manufactured destinations where neon and crocodile shows push anything of substance right off the stage.

 Rakyat Bali Janji "Pesta" Telanjang

Benoa all set to welcome cruise ships this year
Wasti Atmodjo , THE JAKARTA POST , DENPASAR | Thu, 01/22/2009 1:49 PM | Bali

Now in the last stages of construction, the Benoa port upgrade, to support turn-around services for cruise ships that meet international standards, should be ready to berth ships soon, state-owned PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III said.

"If all parties *including local tourism businesses* are in agreement, we can begin receiving cruise ships into Benoa port this year,"

Pelindo III general manager Bambang Priyanto said after a meeting Monday with Bali's provincial legislative council (DPRD) and the city administration.

Benoa port has been upgrading its infrastructure since late 2007 to expand its services beyond its longtime role as a cargo and refueling port.

The government has reportedly been trying to outfi t the port with hotels, landscaped gardens, trade centers and other upscale passenger-port facilities.

The development plans behind Benoa's expansion, which included setting aside two hectares of land at the port, have not been fi nalized. But Pelindo III is apparently not waiting for these facilities to be fully operational before scheduling cruise ships to stay overnight.

The port's current size - 3.6 kilometers in length and 150 meters in width - should allow ships under 200 meters long to stop over. Only two such cruise ships can berth at a time.

"Even with this limited capability, we can still make sure the users will be satisfi ed," Bambang said.

He said starting up the facility would enhance Bali's popularity as a tourist spot, citing the island's strategic location as a bridge between the continent of Asia and Australia.

The distance between Benoa and Singapore is 1,488 kilometers, from Benoa to Darwin, 1,550.

"Our position smack dab in the middle makes it one of the best stopoff choices for cruise ships passing through the region," Bambang said.

La Vie Boutique Villas
Lifestyle Boutique Villa

Senin, 8 Juni 2009 | 15:49 WIB
KOMPAS.COM - Seminyak area in Bali is set to welcome the latest addition to the boutique villa scene. La Vie Villas is a 5-star villa enclave which marries the concept of lifestyle and investment. It is expected to enliven the upscale tourism industry in the island of the gods.

My Trip to Bali 12-18 Jun 2009

I went to Bali for a business, and I extended my time travelling around Ubud area and to the places nearby. This was my second time to Bali. Everytime I visited Bali, I just wanted to live there forever. I'm thinking about relocate to Bali when I'm retired. I've already started planning to do so.

The Balinese do still live with nature. I don't know whether the anti-nudity law has been enforced in Bali, but it was my great opportunity to bathe naked with local Balinese in this River Wos outside Ubud. No worry, all were men and boys, and I was warm welcomed... :)

Nice to meet u again, K14N. I really had a very good time in Bali. Next time, I plan to rent a bungalow in the rice field near Ubud and stay there for one whole month, riding motocycle to eveywhere on the island.

Even last time, five years ago, people still bathed naked on the roadside, mostly men. But, this time I spotted some change. I've heard that Bali Governor opposed the anti-nudity law because it'll contradict to Balinese way of life. Actually, people regard bathing as nothing rather than self-purification. It's their religion. In fact, when people do, they always don't do exposedly in front of the public. Unlike some places like beaches where the nudity can easily be spotted, people find a very remote place way from from public sight to perform this ritual. De juro, I think the nudity should not radically be banned from Balinese society unless people (especially foreigners) do it openly in front of the public like beaches or open-to-public space. For this case, people deserve being prosecuted. I think, Balinese way of life and belief should be protected to preserve the charm of Bali.

P.S. When I joined with them, of course, I noticed that I might have been gossipped, but they did in Basa Bali which I don't understand. I know only Bahasa Indonesia. That's why I wish to learn Basa Bali to understand what they talk about other people. :)

Bali Named World's No. 2 Region for Travelers by Lonely Planet

Bali has been named one of the best regions in the world to visit in a new Lonely Planet travel guide.

The famed Island of the Gods came in second behind Alsace in France, and ahead of Fernando de Noronha in Brazil. Lake Baikal in Russia was the other Asian region to make the top 10 list.

The top three countries were El Salvador, Germany and Greece, while the top three cities were Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Charleston in the United States and Cork in Ireland.

The book “Best in Travel 2010,” released on Monday, is the travel company’s fifth annual collection of the best places to go and best things to do in the year ahead.

“This is a collection of destinations and experiences that we rate as the stuff people really should consider for next year,” Asia-Pacific communications manager Adam Bennett said. “Whatever your own style dictates, you should be able to find inspiration in these destinations.”

Both of this temple location is around of Yogyakarta city, So.. first you have to go to this city, There's three carriers available which serving Denpasar/Bali - Yogyakarta directly with 4 times a day :

Garuda Indonesia's schedule of DPS - JOG (11.15, and 19.00/7 PM)
Lion Airlines's schedule of DPS - JOG (06.10/6 AM) >> Morning flight
Mandala Airlines's schedule of DPS - JOG (O7.OO/7 AM)

Borobudur located around 27 miles North West of Yogyakarta and Prambanan situated > 15 miles east of Yogyakarta.

Beside Bali, Yogyakarta is recomended as the most of the cultural and natural attractions of this magnificent island,
