Chad August 20th, 2005, 03:16 PM I-dont-think-thats-a-very-good-Idea...:D
The way it is right now is very fine with me, exuberant defined-exotic....lovin' it no less :okay:
satit28 August 20th, 2005, 06:18 PM NOPE................
im ok with twin towers............
but may identical ones.......
no............
Sumeet August 20th, 2005, 06:36 PM thats the ugliest city ive ever seen.....theres no individuality
Chad August 20th, 2005, 06:43 PM First is Seoul, 2nd and 3rd is Hongkong and the last one I believe from Guangzhou.
BKKinTO August 20th, 2005, 07:18 PM not for me either.
rayman August 20th, 2005, 09:32 PM ugly peace of shit
Imperfect Ending August 21st, 2005, 12:05 AM No.
RafflesCity August 21st, 2005, 12:55 AM no Bangkok is more creative than that
atom August 21st, 2005, 02:49 AM No lah,Bangkok has their own style and it's work :)
kiku99 August 21st, 2005, 05:06 AM not really. well, having more tall residential bldgs. would be nice. but should have more style. :)... but i wouldn't mind if we have those in our suburbs or surrounding provinces.;)
Speed August 21st, 2005, 08:07 AM not very attractive....looks like a whole city of prison buildings :D
but "cookie cutter" same-same buildings would be cheaper to make ....TOO MANY masses of Chinese people chasing tiny ugly units inflates the prices too and make developers so happy but provides very poor quality to consumers....
but I guess they need the very high density because of the MILLIONS of people crowding the urban areas... no wonder each family is allowed only one kid :D ....they try to slow down pop growth.... just growing too fast in population.... :omg:
the next generation will be like that very old movie "Soylent Green"
Hitesh August 21st, 2005, 09:22 AM ..
Jo August 21st, 2005, 04:22 PM I like the existing mix of skyscrapers and slightly chaotic low rise areas. It makes the city very interesting to explore and to live in.
Imperfect Ending August 21st, 2005, 04:53 PM I am trying to like the look but its still so ugly
Pas August 21st, 2005, 05:55 PM very ugly sea of scrapers.. no discernible urban design quality whatsoever. I like mix of old and new, big and small, ordered and chaotic, planned and haphazard. To put it simply, Bangkok should be more like Tokyo :)
Imperfect Ending August 21st, 2005, 06:02 PM no... Bangkok should be like Bangkok
Pas August 21st, 2005, 06:08 PM As metaphor lah!! blending the old and new.. the plan and unplan. Tokyo is one of a few cities that can do that. it is unique and you can't copy it but you can learn from it. Bangkok could learn from Tokyo. just my 2 cents.

Zoowatch August 21st, 2005, 07:55 PM This reminds me of a song written by an American social activist Malvina Reynolds (1900-1978)
http://homepage.mac.com/zoowatch/.Pictures/feature7_1.jpg
The song "Little Boxes" talks about social division / urban segregation which peaked in 1960s when rich families lived together in their thousands in many new, expenisive, elite neighbourhoods in the uburban California.
These wealthy residents enjoyed a fine life and a high-income careers while their kids were well educated, shielded from the urban ills which were commonplace in poorer districts. The rapid expansion of vast, up-class housing estates also occured at the expense of the countryside.
These 'little boxes' decribe the vast number of idylic houses home to the elites. Each had their front door painted with beautiful colours ("the green ones", "the pink ones" and "the yellow ones"). But these houses were still considered products of estate developers' attempt at 'mass production'. Hence, the architechtural aspects of these houses are largely lacking in individuality, and sometimes inferior materials that had been mass produced (e.g. window frame, fence) were used in their constuction (Hence "ticky tacky").
Yet, the song repeatedly mentioned an unsettling irony to the seemingly happy atmosphere across these neighbourhoods ("And they all look just the same" / "And they all come out all the same" / "little boxes all the same").
If you have time, listen to "Little Boxes" (sung by Pete Seeger) here:

Little Boxes
Little boxes on the hillside
Little boxes made of ticky tacky
Little boxes, little boxes, little boxes all the same
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And the people in the houses
All go to the university
All they all get put in boxes, little boxes all the same
And there's doctors and there’s lawyers
And business executives
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university
And they all get put in boxes
And they all come out all the same
And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
And they all get put in boxes, little boxes all the same
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same

atom August 22nd, 2005, 04:16 PM These houses should be American style house.
Imperfect Ending August 22nd, 2005, 04:27 PM You see a lot of those in the desert
Jo August 22nd, 2005, 07:10 PM I live in a similar place in Sweden where the houses were originally completely identical. But after a number of years people have repainted their houses in different colors and arranged their gardens in an induvidual way. They even built different kinds of additions to the houses so now they don't look similar at all.
Clearly it doesn't work the same way with residential highrises. They don't diversify over time.

Chad August 24th, 2005, 09:52 AM One exception of fack urbanism development environment that I can accept is Dubai.
Where the artificial man-made city hass come to the landmark of economic and financial power.
Nongkhai_tong August 24th, 2005, 10:49 AM Kun Chad Do you know the total pupulation in Dubai right now It's a huge project with the 40 towers why they need it? Who gana live there? Anyone has the expererince lived in Dubai?
Chad August 24th, 2005, 11:00 AM Kun Chad Do you know the total pupulation in Dubai right now It's a huge project with the 40 towers why they need it? Who gana live there? Anyone has the expererince lived in Dubai?
It's not really 40 Towers, it' more likely 1000000000000 of them U/C right now.
Eventually the main factor that drive othe property and construction boom in Dubai and the Middle east right now are
1. Rising oil prices which creating a hugh gain in Middle East petro-producer nations.
2. British Property Invester and those relocation activities of those European retirement populations.
3. Business and financial expansion which required foreign workforces from all over the world that requiring monstruss number of rental properties such as Serviced-Apartment and Rental Condominium.
4. Sky-rocketing tourist number from both Normal and Islamic Nations.
Those are all the main factors that supporting the boom of Middle East Construction explosion., But in my opinion, the most important is the rising oil cost..;)
satit28 August 24th, 2005, 12:52 PM lots of under constructions in Dubai isnt it???...............
lucky them............
they're rich...................
Kalix August 24th, 2005, 06:55 PM Yeah, Dubai is now going berserk on its construction now, i think there're millions of buildings being built these days and they mostly have gorgeous design.
Talking about its pop, there'r only a million+ ppl there and it comprises greatly the expats with dubaiese themselves are the minority! the expats are mostly from south asia (as i've been there once, there're so many pakistanians there, dunno why?) the gov allows those expat to have full ownership over the property Dang!. however, they DON'T give any permanant residence or naturalization to those expats.
btw, i used to read an artical about UAE, tho its an oil-producer nation, its oil production revenue only accounts 10% of its GDP. the main income is actually from JDFZ (the something free zone) and its tourism.
i have no idea about why there're so many buildings on that artificial island, i guess it is because the law that allows the expats to own the property and maybe it is tax-free.
Nongkhai_tong August 25th, 2005, 03:51 AM I haven't seen any project like this before!

it looks great to have many construction like in Dubai but The thing is when it has done they will look all the same style just like Condos in this thread
Chad August 25th, 2005, 04:55 AM ...and thats...just one project..;)
Beyond Jumeirah Beach Residence there are several more projects, Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lake, Business Bay, Burj Dubai, Dubai Downtown, Palm Jumeirah, Palm Deirah, Palm Jebel Ali, Dubai Riverfront, Festival City, Sport City, Dubai Pearl, Thw World, Jumeirah Islands, Dubai Land, Dubai International Financial Center, Park Square yet not mentioning all those talls along Sheikh Zayed Road.
Pas August 25th, 2005, 05:48 AM and they're building full size replica of the Eifel Tower and the Pyramid at Giza and a giant dome that produce snow! and the Dubai Hydropolis the Dubai Mall. Architects dreams DO come true in Dubai. :runaway:
