The two biggest malls that I know of are the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta, and the Mall of America in metro Minneapolis. West Ed reportedly has over 800 stores and services. I don't know any of MOA's stats.

West Ed has also boasted having the largest indoor lake, the largest indoor amusement park and the largest parking lot in the world. Don't know if these things are still true or not though.

It's under construction and it faces manila bay. they claim that it will be the biggest mall in asia (what's the point in making a nmae like that if it's not the biggest or whatever)

I think malling is something asians particularly Filipinos are more active at compared to the europeans or in the west. Just look at how many malls there are in the philippines.

Im almost positive that West Edmonton is the biggest Mall in the world.

BC's biggest and I think the biggest mall in the Pacific Northwest is MetroTown, over 470 stores and is directly connected to Skytrain. Many condo's, office towers. hotels and even a new Asian Mall have been built next to the mall Located at the centre of Greater Vancouver it is destination shopping.

how crowded do the malls get?

In Ayala Center in Makati, at least 600,000 shoppers visit in a day. :)

I love Birmingham. I was taking a picture inside the Bullring and a security guard told me to stop!

I like CambridgeSide Galleria, but it was a little busy, with signs everywhere. They sure pack a lot in a small space.

I suppose this could open a can of worms, not least on how to define the largest mall.

Number of Visitors?
Total amount traded?
No. of Shops?
Floorspace for trading?
Floorspace of mall?
Area of mall+car park?

Can't stand the places myself.

SIAMPARAGON
BANGKOK

Starry-eyed welcome for Paragon
Complex will boost tourists' spending

SUKANYA JITPLEECHEEP & SUJINTANA HEMTASILPA
http://www.bangkokpost.com/101205_B...c2005_biz37.php

Bangkok's business and social elite turned out in force yesterday to the launch of the 15-billion-baht Siam Paragon, the country's newest shopping mall.

Building began at the 52-rai plot in 2003, and the complex now features an opera house, an aquarium, cinemas and bowling lanes, as well as 250 retail boutiques featuring brands such as Hermes, Gucci and Chanel.

Several newcomers have also made their debut in the Thai market at Siam Paragon, including jewellers Van Cleef & Arpels and Mikimoto, and fashion brands such as Spain's Zara and Italy's Roberto Cavalli.

Siam Paragon boasts 500,000 square metres of space and is located in the heart of the city, flanked by the Siam Centre and CentralWorld malls.

The project was the brainchild of Supaluck Umpujh, aged 50, and Chadatip Chutrakul, 44, two female giants in the Thai retail industry.

Ms Supaluck, the vice-chairwoman of Siam Paragon, was the project innovator, while Mrs Chadatip, the chief executive, managed the project, keeping costs and schedules on target.

They say it was a perfect partnership to see through the challenge of a lifetime.

''I was taught by my father that to solve a problem, you have to experience it yourself,'' Mrs Chadatip said.

To prove this, her father, Gen Chalermchai Jaruwat, a former governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, came up with a unique way of teaching her how to swim _ he threw her in the pool.

Mrs Chadatip, who joined Siam Piwat, the operator of Siam Discovery and Siam Centre over a decade ago, agreed retail management had its own peculiar learning curve.

''Eventually, I was able to overcome all of the problems. It's not easy to succeed in this business. It's not just a question of selling space to tenants. You have to help them survive and prosper as well,'' she said.

Ms Supaluck was also taught how to compete by her father.

''To win the game, it's not enough to just walk or run to catch up with your competitors. You have to leap as far as possible. And to make a leap, you have to be the pioneer as well,'' Ms Supaluck said.

Ms Supaluck eight years ago gained new ground in the retail market with the opening of The Emporium complex, a luxury mall blending retail boutiques and entertainment.

She said she expected Siam Paragon to generate 10 billion baht in sales in its first year, with some 100,000 visitors expected each day.

Juthamas Siriwan, the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said she believed Siam Paragon would strengthen Bangkok's position as a regional shopping destination.

Tourists who had previously gone to Singapore or Hong Kong to shop would instead extend their stay in Thailand and take advantage of what Bangkok has to offer, she said.

Shopping done by overseas tourists is expected to account for 30% to 32% of total tourism revenue, estimated at up to 425 billion baht this year, up from 27% three years ago.

The main reason why some malls are so big is because developers put in too much RIDICULOUS extras inside the so-called mall. Some malls even descend to the mediocrity of being an AMUSEMENT PARK. Some malls in Manila specifically SM Megamall is more than 310,000 square meters PURE MALL as in PURE mall, shopping, no rollercoasters, skiing parks, residential buildings, just shopping!

There are 4 or 5 big ones in the UK about 130,000 - 150,000sqm (1.4-1.6m sqft). Nothing on the scale of that 900,000 sqm monster in Bangkok though!!

I try to avoid malls wherever possible, city centre shopping is so much more enjoyable imo.

The Galleria was developed by Gerald Hines in 1970. Modeled after the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, it originally had 600,000 ft² (56,000 m²) of retail space. The first expansion, called Galleria II and completed in 1976, added 360,000 ft² (33,000 m²) of retail space on two levels. Later added was the Galleria III (completed 1986), followed by the newest and biggest expansion (Galleria IV) completed in March 2003. This expansion added 2 department stores, a Nordstrom and flagship Foley's, as well as about 70 other stores, increasing the area to 2.4 million ft² (220,000 m²). Another 100,000 ft² (9,300 m²) of retail space, vacated by Lord & Taylor in 2005, is expected to be renovated by April 2006. Federated Department Stores plans to close the current Macy's store once its takeover of May Department Stores becomes final in 2006 and Foley's is renamed to Macy's. [1] A plan is being considered to convert the Macy's space into apartments.[2]

The Galleria is now the fifth-largest shopping complex in the United States, and considered to be one of the most prestigious malls in the country.Houston Galleria (http://www.pbase.com/ngruev/houstongalleria)

That's most of RS Gold (http://www.gobuycheaprsgold.com) the stuff you can see. There's also a long list of various utility addons I have Buy WOW Gold (http://www.zyy.com) that don't really pertain to interface design. I hope RuneScape Gold (http://www.storeingame.com) you enjoy my UI and find enough of interest here to share with your readers. Thanks so much for the email, Maritime. The images that Maritime sent will make WOW addon position-ists very excited, since RuneScape Gold (http://www.rsfarming.com) the legend used is excellent at showing you what addons go where.

How come most malls in Europe and in the Americas don't get that crowded as in Asia ?

It's called e-commerce. Supermarkets are outdated.

in Europe malls are a bit islanded, all the action still happens in the city, as invaraibly you not only get the shopping options but a far larger array of eating and entertainment, culture, leisure, drinking, parks etc. all in the one centre.

Neither does the weather really get in the way, unlike SE Asia/ southern China which is prohibitively humid and hot compared to the air conditioned mega malls. The same applies to Canada or Russia, where its so much colder in the winter months.

WBJ is not that large by even Sydney or Australian standards. It's simply a slightly more upmarket westfield in reality.

What is the title of this forum? Biggest malls in the World! It is very clear! Yes, there are lots of nice malls in other parts of the world but small. We are talking about size. Size does matter. If you want to know what are the biggest malls in world then you've got to refer to Forbes so you will be enlightened who are included in the TOP 10.

What is nice when it is empty? What is beautiful when not known?

You say Philippine malls are cheap-looking, then why dont you build one that you cannot see anything similar in this planet.

Biggest mall in Colombia
Centro Mayor

It's located in the capital, Bogotá. The shopping mall is 248.000 m² in total surface. It has 2836 parking spaces and 433 stores distributed in three floors. Includes a multiplex with 14 movie screens and several soccer fields.

The mall has a circus theme, naming the various squares in it after members of the circus (such as Magician Square). It will celebrate it's second birthday next year.

It's one of the largest shopping malls in all of America.

Hope you like it :)

what an absurd arguements you guys are having.

if this thread is made just to specifically talk about the biggest mall in the world, then you guys should only be talking about the biggest mall in the world that's in Dubai!

nuff said!

i think the tittle of this thread should be changed.

^^ i said most SM malls, in particular, are cheap-looking and they're not the best. but yeah, they're huge, I won't dare argue about their size. And, I don't go to any SM mall if I can help it. :puke:

Some SM Malls look nice and some are crap. The big ones such as Mall of Asia, SM North Edsa and Megamall are some of the biggest in the world no doubt. And these malls are impressive especially in what they have to offer not just shopping but also dining and entertainment.

And no doubt these said malls are among the best in the world.

I really love our malls here in Metro Manila. Even SM Megamall has more to offer than the usual stores and restaurants that you will find in most malls around the metro.

I agree. And also the rest of Southeast Asia.

It has been common for ASEAN cities to construct huge or fancy malls including Singapore.

It is because they lie in the tropics where the weather can get hot and humid especially during the summers.

So these malls can provide shoppers a relaxed setting plus a controlled climate.

The Mall of America, outside of Minneapolis, has just received $250 Million in tax breaks from the state of Minnesota that will subsidize the road, sewer, water and parking improvements necessary for the planned $1.2 Billion expansion of the Mall.

The plan will more than double the size of the mall from 4.2 million square feet (390,000 sq. meters) to 9.8 million square feet (almost 1 million sq. meters).

The plan has been in the works for years but was interrupted by the economic collapse of 2008.

Full story here. (http://www.startribune.com/business/208425631.html)

The Mall recently completed the 500-room Radisson Blu hotel, attached to the south side of the building. The Mall currently attracts 40 million visitors a year. Mall officials hope to increase that number to 60 million after the addition is complete.

World's Largest Mall, Megadevelopment Proposed For Las Vegas (http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/eurasia-will-build-worlds-largest-mall-convention-center-and-private-jet-airport-in-las-vegas-210141071.html)

LAS VEGAS, June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Fresh off its highly successful launch at RECon 2013, ICSC's Global Retail Real Estate Convention, Eurasia Resorts International, Ltd. Of Nassau, Bahamas has announced further plans to build the world's most compelling, must see, play and shop experience in the world on 1200 acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land located not too far from the Las Vegas Strip.

"To say we were immensely gratified by the excitement of more than 31,000 attendees and exhibitors at RECON showed for the Eurasia concept is a major understatement," said John Ray, President of Eurasia Resorts International, Ltd.

[...]

At Eurasia, for example, the 39 boutique hotel casinos & 6 non-gaming boutique hotels will be managed by a major hotel organization which may also provide substantial mezzanine financing to the development. Likewise, the 39 casinos will be operated by local, currently active Nevada gaming licensees with a long history of success in the Las Vegas market.

Also today, Mr. Ray announced the retention of the internationally respected team of Andrew Grant leisure / amusement center industry consultants to review, and ultimately aid in the design and coordination of the actual development and implementation phase - Grant-leisure.com.

"Given the incredibly favorable response to the Eurasia proposal we felt it was time to bring in some big, gold-standard guns to help us translate our creative concepts into feasible and profitable projects and support us as we navigate Eurasia through the various stages of its development," Ray said.

Noting that plans called for Eurasia's 6,000,000 sq. foot convention center to be operated in cooperation with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau, Ray called that decision a "no-brainer."

Major people attractions at Eurasia will include the Las Vegas dream mall, with 15,000,000 sq. feet of retail selling space, indoor and outdoor theme parks, the world's largest Ferris wheel at 800 feet tall, sports arenas including a visitor-participation XTREME Sports World, three PGA-quality golf courses and Eurasia nation pavilions featuring native food, products and entertainment.
