Just got back from MOA. It was chaotic out there. The security measures being implemented by the PSG were outrageous. Ok na sana yung openning if only that darn GMA didn't come....

Anyway, the MOA was still packed!!! I couldn't believe it. Here are some photos, sorry I couldn't get good angles coz security men were all over the place. Plus they cordoned off some areas (where GMA was going to pass).

Taken from the Ground Floor Level (across Penshoppe) were the Mass was being held.

Outdoor Dining Areas Between the North Building and the Main Mall.

Btw, do look at the Maldita and Penshoppe Stores. They were the best looking shops I saw. The others were kind of just like those in other malls.

You got it all by the bay
CITY SENSE By Paulo Alcazaren
The Philippine STAR 05/20/2006

Pinoys are a mall-crazy people.
They love to congregate at these modern-day urban centers to celebrate, ambulate, gorge, gossip, and gimmick. Then there’s the shopping. Come Sunday, May 21, mallers will have the ultimate in shopping venues – the Mall of Asia.

With over 600 international and local shops, a mouthwatering selection of 150 indoor and outdoor dining venues (pollution-free at that!), and the Philippine’s first Olympic-sized ice skating rink, an IMAX theater (with the world’s largest wrap-around screen), there’ll be more than enough distractions and attractions to keep 10 million Metro Manilans happy. Not to mention a 180-degree unimpeded view of Manila’s fabulous bay!

Mall design in the Philippines has gone through an evolution and revolution. Malls have now broken out of their old gray boxes. Natural light is brought in. Ceilings are raised and large atria become colorful event settings. Formerly introverted complexes have embraced the street and landscaped courtyards are a must for visual and sensual relief.

The SM chain has been steadily renovating its older malls and building new ones. Customers will benefit from these new trends; the added costs to construction because of better design value will be recovered in heaps by increased patronage. And top of the heap is the hip and happening Mall of Asia.

The Mall is actually a complex of four buildings. Breaking up the box is literally taken as a design strategy here by the bay. The four buildings are the Main Mall, the Entertainment Center Building, the North Parking Building, and the South Parking Building. All are linked by elevated walkways with many forming veritable balconies from which to enjoy the sea breeze and Manila’s famous sunset.

The Mall of Asia can be reached via the extension to EDSA. This grand hundred-meter wide avenue leads from the EDSA/Taft intersection past Roxas Boulevard and Diosdado Macapagal Avenue to a huge rotunda marked by a steel globe. I’ve been waiting for someone to resurrect this favorite landmark of mine. There was a similar (but much smaller) globe at the old Agrifina circle that is now gone and replaced by an oversized Lapu-Lapu. The Mall of Asia globe is a great way to anchor the site with the large but low mall complex behind it. The globe is lit with lights that change colors at night and a spotlight is aimed constantly at the Philippines – talk about a global monument!

Generous parking is provided in front plus proper bus stops and even an FX terminal (lessons learned from Megamall and other SMs in the city). Of course, there’s the multi-story carparks for more convenience. The entry atrium is larger and taller than any other SM, and signage (or wayfinding systems, as American consultants call them) is clear and graphically appealing. This wayfinding extends to the color-coding of stores and their locations. This Main Mall contains most of the shopping and dining establishments, the ice skating rink, and the food court. More food is available along the "streets" that separate the four buildings. These are open beyond the mall’s main hours (another lesson from Megamall). With a call center coming up beside the mall, these are sure to be vibrant places 24/7.

The Entertainment Center Building is the second main draw. This houses the IMAX and the Cineplex (10 theaters including a Director’s Club). The center is ringed with balconies at the second floor and an open-air verandah that takes advantage of the panoramic views of the bay. The parking buildings house an SM Hypermart, more dining outlets, and the SM Department store at the other end.

The interiors of the mall are spacious – wider than the standard width of most and punctured regularly by space-age oval skylights that make the mall brighter and airier than any I’ve seen locally or even internationally. The design team was led by Arquitectonica, a Miami-based consultancy firm with Robert Carag Ong and Associates as the Filipino architectural firm in charge. The interior design and lighting is restrained but with color accents, minimalist but just so that the individual stores’ merchandise and designs are made more prominent. These stores have also seemed to make an extra effort to complement the mall’s seaside theme and general quality of design.

At the end of the day, some people may consider the Mall of Asia just another mall, albeit a huge and well-designed one. But it really is more than that. The Mall of Asia is just the core of what will be a larger, integrated, mixed-use complex by the bay. SM has already built one other landmark – a church. It has constructed a call center and has just broken ground on a convention center. The whole complex will, in the future, mature into a fully-featured urban district with residential complexes, hotels, office complexes, and more open green space. When that happens (and we are assured that it will), then you’ll really get it all at the Mall!

Soon to open, the Mall of Asia
By CHERYL M. ARCIBAL, The Manila Times Reporter

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b210/ofngol/MoA_hannsy.jpg

The Mall of Asia, the biggest and most ambitious undertaking so far of the retail giant SM Mall, is set to open its doors this Sunday to the public with almost all of its units for lease already sold out.

At a press conference, Hans Sy, president of SM Prime Holdings, Inc., said 72 percent of stores, stalls and restaurants would also be starting their operations on Sunday.

Sy added that 92 percent of "leasable" spaces were already sold out. He said the company is "choosy" leaseholders because its goal for the MOA is to achieve an ideal mix of stores and merchandise.

Built at a cost of P6.5 billion, MOA is SM’s 25th mall and measures 400,000 square meters with provisions for expansion.

The project took two-and-a-half years to build and was designed by the United States-based designing company, Arquitectonica. The design company was the planner of the Festival Walk in Hong Kong, American Airlines Arena in Miami foe the Miami Heat, Westin Hotel in Times Square in New York and Disney All-Star Resort in Florida.

Sy expressed confidence that with the remittances from overseas Filipino workers and the growth of the call-center industry in the country, consumer spending would remain strong despite political uncertainty, oil price increases and even the 12-percent value-added tax.

The Mall of Asia is also expected create a total of 10,000 employment jobs.

Located on a 60-hectare property overlooking Manila Bay, the complex consists of four buildings linked by elevated walkways—Main Mall, the North Parking Building, the South Parking Building, and the Entertainment Center Building.

MOA also boasts of the country’s first IMAX theater, which has a 600-seating capacity, a special Director’s club screening room for exclusive film showings and seven more state-of-the-art cinemas and fine dining restaurants and bars.

The IMAX screens will be 22x30 meters, approximately the height of an eight-story building and will seat 600 people.

MOA, which adds the Manila Bay sunset view among its attractions, has 5,000 parking spaces with a provision for expansion of up to 7,000 parking slots. It will also have a 2,500 square-meter transport depot on each side of the North and South Parking Buildings, which can accommodate all kinds of public transportation. There will be an open parking space available at the side of the Entertainment Building, which can accommodate up to 100 tourists or chartered buses.

The Grand Opening of Mall of Asia

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b210/ofngol/imgretrieve.jpg

The Grand Opening of Mall of Asia on Sunday, May 21st, will put an end to days of frenzied mall-hopping because you're guaranteed to find anything worth buying, seeing and eating under its roof. Mall of Asia, which is built on 19.5 hectares of reclaimed land, is both impressive and gargantuan--it being the third largest mall in the world (behind only the West Edmonton Mall in Canada and the Golden Resources Mall in Beijing, China).

"We're very proud of it," says Malca Villanueva, Marketing Manager at Mall of Asia. "We have a lot of plans for bridal fairs, electronics expos, sporting events--the list goes on! Our mall is the most multi-functional that you can get."

It's almost guaranteed that jaws will drop--punctuated by a moment of silence--after patrons enter the Mall of Asia premises and absorb the sprawling space, collective efforts and herculean vision of Henry Sy and SM Prime Holdings. The grandeur of the place is not only in its size but in its visionary scope--Mall of Asia promises to offer its patrons, well, everything.

You almost want to give a standing ovation to the list of establishments that will call it "home"--a list that will appease every local patron, tourist, fashionista, tech geek, culinary aficionado, bookworm, film buff, and athelete. Where else can you find both Zara and Mango rubbing elbows with each other, alongside a Folded & Hung and a Bench Body store--while being swayed from shop to shop by the calming music of a pianist playing a latin jazz tune on the second floor entrance before meeting your significant other for lunch at Bizu? Breathless yet?

And don't worry, all the daytime, crowd-averse people can rest assure that they, too, are welcome here, as clubs and cafes such as Prince of Jaipur and Cafe Havana are bringing their festivities to Mall of Asia, along with many other restaurant favorites that will line the esplenade--an area fronting Manila Bay.

The retail line-up was so impressive that there wasn't a store or establishment that was mentioned to Malca to which she did not reply with a resounding "We have it here."

Most notably, the first ever IMAX theater in the Philippines--with a screen that is roughly eight stories high--is one of the main attractions to enjoy at Mall of Asia. Each seat is a "perfect" vantage point from where one can appreciate a movie like, say, "Superman 5"--which is rumored to be the first movie that will premiere in the IMAX theater.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b210/ofngol/imgretrieve2.jpg

Malca urges everyone to tour the Mall of Asia extensively, and to give themselves about 1.5-2 days to explore every shop and corner of the 381,075 square meters space. "It's okay to get lost. There are plenty of signs and you can always ask for maps at the concierge desk (located in the Main Mall and the Entertainment Mall)."

So let's consider ourselves lucky to be living in Metro Manila. We have the best of "retailtainment" in our own backyard.

HOW TO GET THERE
Look for an enormous bronze globe at the corner of EDSA and Roxas Boulevard. The Mall of Asia is hard to miss. Parking is available in both the North and South parking buildings.

Those are real kids skating. There was a kind of "cultural show" on ice when GMA was there, short program lang around 20mins around lunch time.

Nice Pics!!!! Great shots.

I didn't see any new stores except for Bradford (shoes), Diego (men's wear). Some of the stores I saw which I haven't seen in previous SM's are Mango (near Main Entrance)and Fully Booked (strangely at the al fresco dining areas between the north and east bldgs). The other shops are the typical ones you see in every SM Mall.

I heard Zara wants to open there while Debenhams backed out at the last minute.

IMAX: marvelous, miraculous

By Paul Daza
Inquirer

IN A CASE OF NEAR-PERFECT timing, members of the press were transported to Mt. Everest a mere 19 hours before tri-athlete Leo Oracion became the first Filipino to reach the reacherous mountain’s summit. No, those writers weren’t actually on Everest, but it was as though they were, thanks to the miraculous movie marvel that is IMAX.

Rising majestically like a mountain in a field of hills, the San Miguel Coca Cola IMAX theater is in the spanking-new SM Mall of Asia complex. With a screen eight stories high, startlingly crisp digital sound, and steep but comfy stadium seating, the IMAX theater is a larger-than-life, man-made wonder—the most exciting evolution in the movie-going experience to hit this country in decades.

Into your lap

Screened at the theater were 3D trailers for three upcoming IMAX films—“T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous,” “Happy Feet” and “Ant Bully”—which required the use of sporty polarized glasses. IMAX 3D is so sharp and the colors so startlingly vivid, they make recent 3D flicks like “Spy Kids 3D” and “The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl” look drab. By comparison, the cute baby penguin at the center of the “Happy Feet” trailer looked like he could dance right out of the screen and into every viewer’s lap. Each strand of his feathery body was so real, the spectators spontaneously reached out to pet the creature.

After the trailers, the short documentary “NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience” came on. Narrated by Kiefer Sutherland, the 40-minute film is a celebration of the most famous annual event for car racers. Appropriately, the IMAX theater even smelled like the interior of a new car! Thanks to 44 strategically-placed speakers, the audience felt like it was plunked right in the middle of a race course, with the roar of powerful engines circling it. And how effective was the 3D? In a shot where a race car is torn apart and one of its tires hurtles towards the camera, some folks in the audience actually ducked!

After “NASCAR 3D,” it was time for the 45-minute “Everest,” perhaps the most awe-inspiring, breathtaking docu-drama ever filmed. It followed a brave team in its attempt to scale the world’s highest mountain in May 1996, and showed how the deadliest storm in Everest’s history engulfed the mountain, killing eight climbers and nearly halting filming on the IMAX project.

Still relevant

Though it was first released in IMAX theaters in 1998, “Everest” shows no sign of becoming dated, especially with the current Filipino fascination with the mountain. Respectfully narrated by Liam Neeson, “Everest” is riveting, informative, even heart-tugging. Crystal-clear images captured by the IMAX cameras make the video footage seen on local news shows look like home movies. With their snow-bleached images broadcast on TV screens, the videos don’t even come close to capturing the grandeur and untamed beauty of the world’s tallest mountain. Plus, the IMAX screen is so tall (22 meters), you actually have to move your eyes up and down to see the breathtaking images in their entirety.

But more than being a showcase of what the large-screen format is capable of, “Everest” is also an inspiring story about how triumph sometimes walks with tragedy. The film handles the deaths and disfigurements that resulted from the May 1996 storm with tasteful aesthetic distance. “Everest” shows us that even when filmmakers have an all-seeing IMAX camera, sometimes the most human thing to do is turn the camera off or make it look elsewhere when death or misfortune is a few feet away.

For those who don’t know why there’s such a fuss over the Pinoys who successfully scaled Mt. Everest last week, this award-winning film should leave no doubt about what an edifying, death-defying feat the climb is. And for those who aren’t gifted with the legs and lungs to conquer the mountain, the “Everest” IMAX experience is the safest, most affordable way to ascend the peak and know what it’s like to be on top of the world.

With the huge crowd, it's like a cross between Market!Market!, SM Manila, and SM Megamall!

From your pics MOA looks super jam packed and I'm wondering if the airconditioners worked well enough to cool down the place. Mahal din siguro magmaintain nung ice skating rink especially in a tropical country like Pinas. Cooling bill must be extravagant.

Roses are red, violets are blue, when you see more flowers, will you steal them too?

Here are more pics of MOA's opening day. Even if i set my cam to ISO 1600, it's not that fast to capture the flowers slowly being plucked away. I overheard one saying, "Wala atang tao sa mga sementeryo ngayon, parang lahat andito." Looks like it. Tipid ang bulaklak eh.

Ay naku. Naluma ang DSLR ko. The crowd. maddening crowd. 30 minutes to park at Level 5, south wing, 30 minutes to exit. Apparently, they haven't seen a mall with dual exit lanes. Kala nila Skyway.

More pics coming... but siguro when the crowd dies out na. Don't go on a weekend. Too many people... divisioria + baclaran + cemetery + students + families + usis + etc etc. Dami tao! Im heading to rockwell... to breathe a bit! The food stalls were so puno!

Attack of the Jologs Part II (part I sa Market! Market!.) Sobrang kawawa MOA on its opening day. You'll see millions of people walking, tapos 3 lang nasa pila para magbayad hehe.

5 reasons why there are so many peeps on day 1:

(1) MOA is on the headlines of TABLOIDS and broadsheets
(2) maraming usisero
(3) SOP
(4) The SHOW
(5) maraming promo pag opening
(6) magaling lang mag market ang MOA

so, in a few weeks or so, baka mag dwindle na ang crowds to acceptable levels (hopefully)

FYI, there are new routes of jeepneys and buses with stops at MOA itself. It will be more accessible. It's like Market! Market! with the mega terminals and all.

(You have to buy something to get the ice cream!) True enough, mas overworked ang selecta people than Watsons cashiers! Yan ang marketing!

The Main Mall looks like a larger version of Podium but the rest of the mall doesn't look anywhere close to Podium! Pangit tiles, pangit CR, pangit landscaping. Medyo weird yung Entertainment mall coz walang A/C (they want to let air from the sea come in daw.) So from sobrang lamig, lalabas ka sa sobrang init. Pero sa main mall, nice designs and good airconditioning.

I guess typical SM. may shops pa na June 30 ang opening... including.... STAR BUCKS (note, TWO words). baka bago iyan.

I can't remember signature stores eh. Are there any? Went to rockwell after MOA, mas marami pa ako natandaan (Cole Haan, Lacoste .. a meron nito sa MOA, CK, Kenneth Cole)

Will they invite Mikimoto? Or an anchor tenant like Lane Crawford?

Think greenhills shopping mall. with lotsa open space. not cramped.

It's Fully Booked! One of the anchor tenants sa Rockwell. Some books are cheaper than those in PowerBooks. Staff very knowledgeable (think Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail). Well, at least that's how things are dito sa Rockwell store.

SM Mall of ASIA finally opened to the public today May 21, 2006.
Here are some of the photos I took during the Mall Blessing May 20, 2006. No less than the President of the Philippines Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo joined the Sy Family During the Ribbon Cutting ceremonies.

:okay:

Taken from the Ground Floor Level (across Penshoppe) were the Mass was being held.

Oh well, at least hindi sya nawala.

The SM Mall of Asia did not impress me much if you ask me... :)

It's a very spacious, airconditioned palengke... I really looked at the impression of each person entering the mall...

(1) Titingin sa ceiling
(2) Bubuka ang bibig at biglang magsasalita
(3) They intentionally stomp their feet (I think gusto nilang binyagan yung sahig ng putik at kung anu-ano pa)

Only the Department Store was quite impressive.

A lot of good stores here.. pretty modern... a lot of the people here who recently went there who were not impressed most likely were just frustrated with the HUGE crowd... I went there yet I didn't fully appreciate it up until I reviewed the surroundings when the rare "crowd emptiness" occurs... which was two times...

I agree. Nice pics 029. You were part of the people invited for the Opening?

Yes Ichinose I was fortunate to be at the Mall blessing of Mall of Asia. A mass was precided by Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales with The DLSU Choir. The ribbon cutting ceremony led by Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo with the Sy family, followed by a short tour of the mall and a presentation at the ice skating rink, and a preview at IMAX. Food were served in different Asian Cuisine: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino. There was also a private shopping for the invited guests. Among the celebs I saw were Lucy Torres, Phoemela Barranda, Marc Nelson, Diether Ocampo, Iya Villania, Charlene Gonzalez. At late afternoon the mall was already like in its normal operations when it suddenly have a crowd. It was good I already took pics earlier. I think what SM Mall of Asia is boasting about goes with their taglines in their tenant enclosure banners that goes- More Shopping, More Dining, More Fun, and I agree seeing all those shops and restos I coudnt even decide which japanese restaurant I'll go to. They will also have a amusement park at the back in thee future. When I think of SM I think of more Choices rather than upscale super luxurious shopping. Of course its way different from Siam Paragon, IFC, MBK, or Suntec city.
It would have been better if the globe is rotating and a fountain surrounding it.

Hahahaha! Nice pics Ichinose. The night before the blessing may mga Japanese tourists na namasyal akala bukas na.

i'm impressed with this SMall of Asia. thanks for the photos guys. :applause: i may be hard to please (in some ways), but saying this thing isn't impressive at all is ridiculous. we're a struggling nation but a filipino citizen putting up one of the world's biggest is definitely SOMETHING.

^^Powerplant was surprisingly crowded, too.

I feel bad for not taking pics...diniscourage ako ng dad ko na magdala ng camera. Anyway, I went there yesterday....intersection pa lang ng EDSA and Roxas Blvd, super traffic na. Then we saw these cars parking on the streets already, so we thought parking was like so full already. It took us 15 minutes to wait an elevator kasi nasa 5th floor kami. Pagdating sa baba...ang daming tao! The first tenant I saw was Sbarro...and it was full.Ang daming tao sa main corridor ng main mall and I saw a lot of familiar stores there like, Penshoppe, Bench, Bayo, Our Home, Toy Kingdom, Starbucks, the Jollibee group, and a lot more. Mango was in that area too...pero di pa open. Then we went to Dep't Store...parang souvenir shop ng isang underwater themepark! We left the Dep't Store agad kasi maraming tao. I saw more shops on the way to the cinemas like, Kamiseta, Charriol (still closed), and a couple of more high-end like Zara and Lacoste. I was looking for Fully Booked kasi nakita ko overcrowded na ang National and closed pa ang Power Books. Unfortunately, di ko nakita. We were also supposed to watch a movie...theatres were traditional...may baba at itaas. Even IMAX was like...OMG...daming tao sa loob. After like 3 hours in the mall, we went back to Rockwell.

Overall, I like the mall. There were many "jologs" there too. But a bulk percentage of the crowd were Chinese. Ang daming Intsik! I also saw a group from AC there.

I didn't go to SM MOA lol, but I did go to 168, still jam packed and expanding :) Tsk, Tsk, Tsk... bukas ulit ang 168 eh di ba kaka-raid pa lang niyan not too long ago? My problem with establishments like 168 is they can be easily lumped/compared with those who sell pirated DVDs/VCDs/CDs or even fake branded medicines. OK lang naman sana if the products being sold in 168 are properly appraised for taxes due and taxes are paid accordingly as well kaso hindi eh which is why they can sell cheap. Hirap tuloy magcompete with such establishments kasi it's not really an even playing field anymore. That's bad news for the legitimate commercial businesses that are competing for sales.

it's actually the jologs attitude that i don't like...not the people...

1. jologs come in hordes, like the whole barangay or something; boisterous and loud as if they are the only people in the world.
2. jologs can trash a place like Hurricane Katrina and as expected, the streets around the area last night became a Payatas...drove by there and i thought the place was a garbage pit :bash:

no matter how fashionably dressed you are; no matter what car you drive...you can be jologs too...nasa attitude yan!

about the jologs thing, since when has SM malls became a hub for the elite? kung meron mang nanghihimnasok sa MOA its the elite! i can only imagine the pics of the MOA opening without the attendance of the jologs, it would be lifeless since there are not enough elite here in Manila that could fill that mammoth mall.

but if you look at the over all architecture of MOA, its not really that spectacular, something's off with the cylindrical "cages" at the facade's sides and the lighting which i think is the mall's saving grace is still a bit lacking, maybe a bit more effects ( specially that a there is a lot of empty white clad walls in the facade) could be utilized.

its all in the size not necessarily in the design, imho, this mall is far from being arquitectonica's finest works

in fairness i feel that the interiors and the signages were nice,

It's racism, it's just that when there are people who are unpleasant, you immediately feel resentment towards them.

ilan nga kaya ang jolibee (or mcdo for that matter) sa loob ng MOA? very interesting query! can anybody actually answer this

based on the recent pics, talaga ngang first world ang itsura nya, though i still have reservations about the design, i thiunk over time it will still be better, plus since sm owns the vast reclaimed areas around MOA theres more opportunities for coherent development, sana lang lagyan ng malaking areas for greenery para naman hindi barren ang itsura d b?

i agree na lagyan sana ng fountain or some cool water feature yung globe although it would look so much like the one in flushing meadows park in new york (the one in MIB), pero it would still look better if it was water at the base of the globe to complement the nautical theme of the mall and for drama

can anybody confirm this: the cylindrical "cages" at the side of the facade are supposed to be the places where highrises are going to be erected some time in the future? i find this bit of chismis quite beleivable since meron ngang apat na highrises na itatayo sa corners ng MOA sa Palafox proposal back then.

yeah, we've been waiting for this mall to open and getting more negative remarks (surprisingly not much on the mall itself but the crowd) is unacceptable. it's like we're turning into spoiled brats when stuff don't meet our expectations. and it actually feels rewarding to see our people (jologs) get to enjoy the best shopping (window?? lol) experience. i think the best people to comment on this mall are those who actually been there and not basing on mere photos. thanks to all those who contributed images of MOA. nice! yun lang po.

I did see a rendering with high-rises on it but I think those are for conceptual purposes only. Based on the masterplan, I don't see any high-rises rising there because it's right infront of East Drive, there's no space left for them.

There will be a set of high-rise rising across the South Parking Building (south-east of the South Parking Building and bounded by Bay Blvd., Simbahan Drive, East Drive, and South Drive) which will be the future HQ of SM.

SMPHI Stock
By Gilbert Lopez
Source: Macquarie Research Equities

Stock: SMPH PM
Price: P8.40
Valuation (RNAV) P10.75
12mth price target: P9.50
Recommendation: Outperform

Event
SM Prime yesterday opened its largest shopping mall to the public. SM Mall of Asia totals 386,000sqm in gross floor area (GFA), which brings total malls of SMPH to 25 and its total mall portfolio to nearly 3.3m sqm GFA. It is the centerpiece of ths SM Central Business Park which covers 60 hectares.

Impact
The opening yesterday was warmly received by the shopping public, with over 500,000 coming to the initial day based on company estimates. This qualifies it as a great success even against the high standards of most SMPH shopping mall openings.
The shopping mall has achieved an occupancy level of 80% as of the initial day of opening, which also includes a lease-awarded rate of 94%. This indicates very high occupancy levels, which would be much higher than SM Prime has historically achieved for its larger shopping malls of over 100,000sqm GFA. Note that only smaller shopping malls of around 60,000sqm that were recently built by SMPH can come close to these occupancy levels.
It would appear that SM Prime's decision to delay the opening from the previous March schedule has paid off. The occupancy rate level would make the Mall of Asia virtually fully operational.
A key attraction of Mall of Asia is its close proximity to both the international airport and Manila Bay, making it a good tourist destination. This would provide a good complement to SMPH's core shopping clientele which covers a broad range of the population in terms of income levels.

Action and recommendation

* The development puts to rest some investor concerns of another delay in the opening, or an unsuccessful opening day.

* This reinforces our Outperform rating on SM Prime, which offers attractive valuations along with a good dividend yield.

-----------------------------------

Grabe, 500,000 on the opening day! :D

Napansin niyo ba na walang nagbibigay ng comment from our kapatids sa timog silangang asya tulad ng mga tiga THA, IND at MAL?. Maaring nakita na nila ang mga pics (Opening Day) na pinost dito, pero bakit walang mga good/bad comments from them?. Unlike nung nag open ang SIAM Paragon, marami rami ding pinoy na nagbigay ng good comments about that mall...Hmm...bakit kaya?..Napapangitan kaya sila o naiinggit lang kaya ayaw mag comment..Maski sa World Forum wala ring napapasyal na tiga labas...puros lahat mga pinoy ang nagpopost ng comments...

@gilas, there are eight jollibees daw...

whoa! i was expecting a little over four but eight? im now having a clearer idea of how big the place really is.

correct me if im wrong pero, is siam paragon challenging the size claims (the biggest whatever in.....) of MOA?
another thing, based on the pictures sa thai forum its like the new greenbelt lang compared to it

i don't think Siam Paragon is challenging MoA's huge size...but Siam Paragon is one hell of a wanker's paradise...it's posh and very classy, definitely 5-stars...just like Greenbelt 4...

so I am hoping that Greenbelt 5 will be just as posh and cause all the wankers in the world to drool all over it! i'm sure the Ayalas have already been to Siam Paragon and they better have taken a lot of notes!

^^I saw a map of Paragon and the only big things were their SUPER-I-CANT-EVEN-EXPLAIN-GORGEOUS cinemas and theaters! Theyre like bathed in gold and all the luxuries, super ganda ng mall na yun, eh MALL pa ba yun? Pero Im all hoped up na Greenbelt would be more luxurious!

Just came from the MoA. Had lunch, walked around, had merienda, bought a jacket, and watched a movie. I thought the mall itself was huge, but I was a bit disappointed with the size of some of the actual stores and restaurants. It seems like they really hired a lot of first-time workers, all of the food servers and cashiers were obviously "nangangapa". The snack counters for the cinemas were very understocked, no softdrinks even. As far as I'm concerned though, the most disappointing thing for me was the landscaping. Lots of brown, dead or dying trees around. What happened here? Weren't they being watered during construction?

I'm looking forward to a much better experience after the upcoming waves of store openings on June 15 and 30.

Hi there! first of all, let me thank all of you for your interest in our grandest mall. Yep, im an insider from scmc. I'm doing this in my personal capacity & not as a rep of the company that brings you the mall you are tirelessly exchanging opinions about. Glad to hear of the positive comments. As for the negative...well...let's say, better take it as constructive criticisms. Funny how almost everyone seems to be really smart...that's cute. Keep it coming. Management knows how to screen out useful comments, I assure you. After all, this is the 25th mall and we're still counting...

May nag comment dun sa Thai Forum na magkaiba naman daw ang Siam Paragon at MOA dahil iba daw ang target market nila...yung SP daw eh parang city mall siya with most of the international brand names shops na meron sila at yung MOA ay para lang daw isang suburban mall lang (pang jologs kung baga...haha)..at mukhang wala masyadong international branded shops. Could someone advise all the international brand tenants ng SM MOA (current at would be)?

I'm sure some international branded shops are yet to open by next month pa, pero I hope some forumers could take pics of some international branded shops na bukas na at ipost din natin dito lalo na sa MOA thread sa world forum para naman i prove na mali ang akala nila.

Oh yeah, when I was there pala kanina I crossed paths with Mr. Henry Sy himself and his entourage. I don't think too many people recognized him, even my friend just thought he was some elderly Chinese guy being wheeled around.

yeah, the crowd last sunday was really overwhelming. give it two-three weeks sigurado maluwag-luwag na plus it's rainy season. and i hope the entertainment is not limited on weekends. those mini musical shows in the patios are really something. and speaking of rains and of course storms/typhoons...let's hope they have contingency plans for the open areas for these types of weather.

and welcome to @femaleinsider! i'm an 'insider' too! :D j/k. glad you can join us :)
