OtAkAw September 2nd, 2007, 03:19 PM Well sometimes being generic or plain simple is elegant and beautiful
making a statement for itself not being too busy or complex.
It's a great plan what SM has for that baycity.
I guess that's SM's identity though some might not like being generic
but it works and has made Sy the richest man in the Philippines.
Well he's the richest Filipino man because his malls cater to the general masses and like, um, the Philippines is a nation of general masses.
FrancisXavier September 2nd, 2007, 03:36 PM actually, every nation has a general masa..only that, in the US for example, the quality of living of their general masa is way better than our's.

Lito September 11th, 2007, 11:40 AM The first event in SMX will be on Nov. 05~10
The annual Integrated Institute of Electrical Engineers National Convention and Exhibit.
Then next year we have our own event the Construction Show Manila on Sept. 2008.
But for the mean time let me invite you to join us on Oct. 11 (next month) for the opening of Science Discovery also in Mall of Asia.
Lito September 11th, 2007, 11:45 AM ^ I don't think so. SM offered to pay the debt of the Cebu South Road Properties (250+ hectares) if the city government will sell it to them for development but the mayor refused since he wants developments that will benefit Cebuanos the most or in other terms, benefit more Cebuanos. :)
yes you are right. Mayor Tommy wants developments in SRP that will benefit the local people. But the main reason why the mayor refused to the offer of SM Investment is because committed na siya kay Big Foot and in fairness with Big Foot company ang dami na nilang tulong kay Mayor Tommy and even sa Lapu-Lapu City.
I believe kaya ni Mayor i-market ang buong SRP with out SM Investment. Nasa Branding ang utak ni Mayor.

3cr September 19th, 2007, 08:28 AM Yap joins booming property business
By Elaine Ruzul S. Ramos
Manila Standard
http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=business3_sept19_2007
Publishing magnate Emilio Yap has joined the ranks of taipans Lucio Tan, Henry Sy, John Gokongwei and Andrew Gotianun in the booming property development business.
Legacy Ventures Realty and Development Inc., which is controlled by the heirs of Yap, has launched yesterday the high-end Sentosia project, the group’s first foray into the property business.
Company president Carlos Wilfredo Pineda said the group spent close to P1 billion for the project, including P350 million for the construction cost.
Sentosia, an exclusive horizontal condominium-townhouse development, sits on 1.7 hectares of prime real estate along Macapagal Avenue in the Bay Area.
Pineda said the entire project, involving a total of 127 units, would be completed in three phases.
Phase 1, comprising 24 units, is scheduled for completion in November 2007. The units will be turned over to the owners in December.
Phase 2, which involves 32 units, will be completed in December.
All 127 units will be finished by December 2008. The company is now doing the structural construction for Phase 3 of the project.
All units will have three floors, three bedrooms, two-car garage and an optional provision for an attic. Unit sizes range from 161 square meters to 186 sq. m.
At P52,000 per square meter, the smallest unit of 161 sq. m. will cost around P8.372 million.
Pineda said Sentosia would be the first among several projects to be undertaken by the group. A mid-rise condominium project in the Marina area near the Sentosia project, and another mid-rise condominium development in Otis, Manila right across the Robinsons mall, are in the pipeline.
With the proliferation of similar property developments in the country, Pineda said the company is luring buyers by guaranteeing the appreciation of their units within a year from the date of turnover.
“In case there is no appreciation within one year from date of turnover, Legacy Ventures agrees to buy back your unit at the original purchase price,” said Pineda during a presentation yesterday.
The developer also assured buyers the units would be turned over within six months or it pays the interest on the house payment until completion.
Pineda said these guarantees to homeowners were designed to respond to the emerging risks of the current real estate boom. The company has signed an agreement with Philtrust Bank, which is also controlled by the Yap family, for the guarantee.
Sentosia’s horizontal condominium concept makes real estate ownership possible for expatriates through a condominium certificate of title that allows co-ownership of land.
The company, incorporated in May 2005, is headed by Emilio Yap III as chairman, the grandson of Yap, who, in turn, controls Manila Bulletin Publishing Corp., Euro-Phil Laboratories and the Manila Hotel.

Bay living at Sentosia: The insider’s guide
Manila Bulletin
http://www.mb.com.ph/SPACE20070920103433.html
Few people will ever have a weekend as unique as absorbing high art at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, ambling along the street culture of one of the world’s biggest malls, partying at the wildest club in town and bird-watching in the grasslands by the bay.
Except of course if they live at Sentosia.
Bay living has never been so well-suited in the Philippines with Sentosia Condominiums, an exclusive condominium development located along Diosdado Macapagal Avenue.
With the adjacent multi-million Bay City project that is developing parts of the four cities and one municipality surrounding Manila Bay into a gigantic commercial district and the international airports only 15 minutes away, Sentosia Condominiums offers residents unlimited potential for leisure and entertainment in addition to the beautiful seascapes, cool ocean breeze, temperate night air and the fresh mornings.
Sentosia conveniently has three routes: Edsa-Buendia, Magallanes and South Super Highway. For the athletic, Sentosia has infinite space for jogging, walking pets and picnicking.
Residents will also be happy to know that the Bay City being developed nearby will transform the 750-hectare coastline into a globally competitive cosmopolitan hub that features a sports club, a community center, open parks and a championship 18-hole golf course designed by the international architect Robert Trent, Jr.
Centers for art are close by, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Museum and The World Trade Center.
Upon completion of the multi-million Bay City project, the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex will be organized into two zones, an Art Zone and a Commercial Zone.
Blue Wave and Harbor Square have a number of dining choices. A few minutes drive away is the bohemian nightlife at Malate. Plans for pocket parks and a buffer zone 50-meters from the shoreline devoted to public recreation and al fresco dining are also included in the developing Bay City to create a vibrant waterfront for residents.
There are currently two types of shopping at Sentosia: the bargain centers such as the Coastal Mall and the HK Sun Plaza, and massive Mall of Asia.
Soon though there will also be a business district that will offer tourist-oriented, premium names in retail.
The Bay Area in San Francisco is best known for the bay lifestyle that focuses on family and community-friendly outdoor activities with the spirit of adventure and leisure.
Bay neighborhoods are essentially close-knit communities where living well and connecting with nature are of utmost importance.
The concept just recently found its way to the Philippines, as seen in the numerous developments around Manila Bay.
With a novel horizontal condominium concept, Sentosia offers residents high-rise convenience without them being stacked between their neighbors. Sentosia residences are three-level homes with a two-car parking garage, an attic, wide indoor floor areas and large windows that let in the breeze and natural light.
The condos were meticulously planned with geometric modern architecture complemented by Asian-inspired fixtures and interior finishes are separated by streets 18 feet wide.

normandb September 20th, 2007, 01:39 AM What is the difference between Bay City and SM Bay City?

Is the E-City part of the Bay City too?
pau_p1 September 20th, 2007, 07:38 AM yes....
flymordecai September 20th, 2007, 08:17 PM SM Bay City is just a portion of the entire Bay City.
It seems this entire Bay City is the growth center in the future, along with BGC. Someone posted a picture of the masterplan and some people commented on the narrow roads. I really agree and it's a shame that they're not considering the future. This part of Metro Manila will be full of traffic in 10-15 years if they do not allow for wider roads. I hope the masterplan for the E-City section has the infrastructure to contain the tremendous traffic that it will get in the future. When I look at Shanghai CBD and the 6-8 lane roads and the wide spaces between buildings, I'm amazed. Compared to the cramped space between buildings and the narrow roads in the Philippines, it's very forward looking.

THE listed holding company of the Sy family, SM Investments Corp., has renamed its 60-hectare reclaimed property in Pasay City fronting the Manila Bay as SM Bay Central from SM Bay City.

SM Bay Central is being positioned by group to become an alternative business district in the metropolis and has been master planned for the development of offices, an exhibition and convention center, a row of hotels facing the bay, a sports arena and a commercial ferry terminal.
It is now home to the SM Mall of Asia, one of 10 largest malls in the world and houses the corporate offices of SM Investments and its subsidiaries.
Some of the group’s ongoing projects in the area include the SMX Convention Center; and OneE-com Center, a 70,000-square meter office building designed for business process outsourcing companies. Both will open for business by the fourth quarter.
Over the next two years, two hotels will rising in BayCentral, namely, the 150-room Microtel Inn and Suites and another hotel with 350 to 400 rooms.
In a previous interview, SM Investments president Harley Sy said the hotel projects will support the projected increase in tourist arrival in the coming years and complement the SMX Convention Center.
He added the plan was their answer to the emerging eco-tourism industry in the country.

Dance, first of all, your revered department store's spelling is MARSHALL FIELDS. Marshall with a double LL at the end.
It is unfortunate to you, the company now is defunct and was taken over by Macy's. Not my fault and not my problem!!! Oh, and I really don't care Macy's took over MarshaLL Fields.

SM Renames Business District as Mall of Asia Complex (http://www.smprime.com/News.php?BlurbID=817)
By , 28 Sep 2007
(28 September 2007. Pasay City, Philippines) SM Investments Corporation (“SMIC” or “SM”) announced today that it has renamed its 60-hectare reclaimed property in Pasay City fronting the Manila Bay as Mall of Asia Complex.
The Mall of Asia Complex is earmarked for development into an alternative business district and has been masterplanned for the development of offices, an exhibition and convention center, a row of hotels facing the Manila Bay, a sports arena, and a commercial ferry terminal. It is now home to the SM Mall of Asia, one of the world's 10 largest malls, and the corporate offices of SM Investments and its subsidiaries.
Ongoing projects include the SMX Convention Center, the country's largest exhibition and convention center, OneE-com Center, a 70,000 sqm. office building suited for business process outsourcing companies. Both these buildings will be open for business in the fourth quarter of this year. Within the next twelve to twenty-four months, two hotels will be rising in the area, one of which is a 350- to 400-room hotel, and the other, a 150-room Microtel Inn and Suites.
In line with this announcement, the company’s corporate address has been amended as follows:
SM Investments Corporation
SM Corporate Offices, Building A
J.W. Diokno Boulevard
Mall of Asia Complex,
Pasay City 1300, Philippines

JB is a he
Aha! that's why she's so bitchy PMS kinda bitchy and when I debate/fight with her, her rebuttals are kinda I donno feels weird...you know guys out there who are married and argue with your wife kinda feel that way (unless you guys out there are whipped or under-disaya afraid of your wife hehehe you wouldn't know how it feels)
Anyway Jhaelnis how'd you know JB's a he or she you've been going out with him or her? :)

I don't know but maybe it's a Chinese thing something cultural (just guessing?)
Henry Sy is still Chinese or Taipan whatever and maybe it has something to do with his beliefs or something overall I don't know.

pau_p1 October 1st, 2007, 04:16 AM well I think they had to use the name of Mall of Asia Complex due to the fact that the Mall of Asia is already an international name and recognizable here and abroad...
cq40 October 1st, 2007, 04:19 AM (I don't have a clue)
So that's Bay City to Bay Central then Bay Central to Mall of Asia Complex:lol: Make up your mind, you guys are losing quality :ohno:
I guess (consumer point of view):
Bay city is inappropriate coz it's not as big as a city and city must be defined only to real cities?
Bay central is inappropriate kc nung kinwento ko kay mama yung Bay Central dinugtungan nya agad ng Market, Bay CentralMarket
Mall of Asia Complex sounds common (i hope they stop changing names):ohno:
kalbongdad October 1st, 2007, 06:37 AM i think that is to differentiate it from ccp comlex....and the forthcoming..pagcor city complex....may mga complex ang mga yan eh...inferiority ata....
Onionz October 1st, 2007, 08:58 AM Then SM must challenge itself for thinking of a new, fresh, unique name for its project and also up the ante on the creativity and design of future supermalls eh.
Sinjin P. October 1st, 2007, 12:03 PM The Bay District? The Bay Area? Reclaimed Area by the Bay?
kalbongdad October 2nd, 2007, 07:05 AM Mall of Asia Complex....is i think the proper name to that place....since we all agree...that when we give directions on where to go...or where we are going we usually call it Mall of Asia or moa.....so moa complex...is acceptable...

MANILA, Philippines--SM INVESTMENTS CORP. (SMIC), the holding firm of tycoon Henry Sy Sr., is investing P10 billion over the next five years to further develop the 60-hectare Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City by putting up office, hotel and leisure facilities. At the heart of the complex is the country's biggest shopping mall, the SM Mall of Asia. Rising soon on the complex are a business and information technology hub, the country's largest convention center, and a 16,000-seat sports and entertainment arena.
Coming on stream on Oct. 10 is the SM Mall of Asia Science and Discovery Center (SDC), a themed park devoted solely to science and technology. SM Prime Holdings Inc. has partnered with US-based Leisure Entertainment Consultancy for the SDC, which will feature a digital planetarium and a wide range of technology and science-themed exhibits.
The Mall of Asia complex's proximity to the international airport, seaports, hotels and other commercial districts will also cater to the launch of SM's OneE-Com Center in November. The 10-story OneE-Com Center is SMIC's answer to the growing demand for office space from business process outsourcing (BPO) firms. It will offer 76,000 square meters of leasable space to potential locators.
Also set to rise within the complex is the SMX Convention Center, which is envisioned to be the country's biggest venue for local and international trade and cultural events. The P1.8-billion development will span 46,000 square meters and feature open exhibition areas, multifunctional halls and flexible meeting rooms with amenities for major conferences and trade exhibits. The SMX Convention Center can fit approximately 6,000 people.
Another major development in the pipeline is the SM Arena, a sprawling indoor facility for big-time sports and entertainment events that can seat more than 16,000 spectators. The SM Arena is expected to be the venue of choice for concerts and other entertainment-related events.
The SM Group will also construct a ferry terminal--to service guests and tourists who want to travel to Cavite City and Bataan and to SMIC's 5,300-hectare ecotourism estate in Nasugbu, Batangas, called Hamilo Coast. The ferry terminal will be completed by 2009.
The Mall of Asia complex will also give rise to deluxe hotels, upscale offices and full-serviced apartments. SMIC will start construction of a four-star hotel within the Mall of Asia complex next year under the Radisson brand. The hotel will have 400 guest rooms and will be operational in October 2009.

> lots of lcd screens for interactive
> many more
try ko to scan the brochure

Farirah October 11th, 2007, 06:53 AM SMIC to put up 60-hectare Asia Mall dev’t project
10/11/2007
http://www.tribune.net.ph/business/20071011bus3.html
The Sy group’s SM Investments Corp. (SMIC) will put up a multibillion-peso development project linked to the sprawling Asia Mall in Pasay City involving a 60-hectare complex envisioned to become a premier business and tourism destination in the Philippines.
The project called ‘Mall of Asia Complex’ will consist of technologically-advanced infrastructure integrated with office, retail, institutional, residential and leisure components. The complex is currently the site of the country’s largest shopping mall, the SM Mall of Asia and will soon boast of a state-of-the-art business and information technology hub, the country’s largest convention center, a 16,000-seat sports and entertainment arena and a wide range of facilities with recreational, tourism and residential uses.
“We envision the Mall of Asia Complex to be a prime business and tourism district in the country and in the region,” says SM Investments Corp. executive vice president for real property Josefino Lucas. “With its unique location by the side of the famous Manila Bay, the Mall of Asia complex which features an excellent mix of business and leisure elements is expected to boost Philippine tourism as well as redefine Manila’s place among the new and exciting urban centers of Asia,” he said.
The OneE-Com Center is a 10-storey building designed for e-commerce, contact centers, BPO companies and specialized office uses. It will provide leading edge facilities such as multi-telco redundancy and connectivity, 100 percent backup power supply, basketball and badminton courts at deck level and central courtyard amenities, to meet the growing needs of technology-based companies with 24/7 operations.
Recently, SMIC formalized a deal with the leading global fitness company Fitness First Philippines Inc. to house the club’s 16th branch in the country on the ground and second levels of OneE-Com Center. Set to open by last quarter of this year, the fitness center will cater to the health and fitness needs of people specially those who work 24/7 in the call centers.
Also set to rise within the Mall of Asia Complex is the SMX Convention Center, which is envisioned to be the country’s premier destination for both local and international trade and cultural events. The three-storey, 46,647-square meter building will feature open exhibition areas, multifunctional halls, and flexible meeting rooms with modern exposition amenities for major conferences and trade exhibits.

This month, Gawad Kalinga celebrates its 4th year anniversary
particularly the birthing of its vision to build 700,000 homes in 7,000
communities in 7 years or GK777 officially launched on October 4, 2003.
Armed only with great faith in its infancy, GK now finds itself in
the middle of its journey towards 2010. We look forward to the
fulfillment of the vision along with the growing number of volunteers
(GK1MB) who will press on to its realization as the systems and the science
are being put in place through the GK Builders Institute.
After a difficult time of growth and transition, it is time for us to
celebrate God's faithfulness to our community and country as we
hold the GK777 anniversary on October 26 to 28 at the SM
Mall of Asia .
With the theme "GK1World: One Hope. One Vision. One Global
Army against Poverty," the GK expo is a gathering of all GK
volunteers, partners and workers - real-life heroes who continue
to press on despite the challenges that the work entails.
Our beloved kapitbahayan, the residents of GK villages, will take center stage
as they participate in the Kapitbahayan Olympics on October 27 at the MOA grounds.
To see their joy is already a great reward for GK heroes who have
made a difference in their lives.
GK1World is expected to become a point of convergence as the young and old,
rich and poor, Christians and Muslims, Filipinos here and abroad come together
to celebrate the vision of a country free from poverty and hunger.
Even foreigners who have joined the GK Builders Corps have learned that
despite our many differences, we are all one in dignity,
and we all hope for a better world.
GK has given the tangible hope that such a dream is not impossible.
As of the latest GK statistics reported in August 2007, over one thousand communities
and more than 24,000 GK homes have been built around the Philippines.
That's thousands of poor families whose lives have been transformed.
The good news is that we have only just begun and there is so much more to be done.
Together with our GK partners from the public and private sector,
the local and international community, our kapitbahayan and caretaker teams,
come and share in the miracle as we all push forward towards GK777.
Come and celebrate our mission and mandate as we push forward in hope and anticipation for greater miracles ahead.
IT'S TIME TO CARE FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT
This year's GK1World Expo will highlight the issues and solutions
concerning the environment. Not to be missed is the GK1World Forum on the
Environment on October 26, 2007 (Friday) from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
at the GK1World Grounds.
Blessed with an abundance of natural resources and an incredibly rich marine biodiversity,
the rare pearl of the Orient - the Philippines is considered a piece of paradise on earth.
It is only right that we learn to be good stewards so that the coming generations
may also be blessed with our rich heritage. Come and help preserve our natural resources
and make a valuable contribution in protecting Mother Earth.
Other activities to look forward to at the GK1World event are conviction and
capacity-building workshops for GK programs on Shelter, Health, Productivity and Kultura.
These workshops seek to equip the GK worker and volunteer with the valuable skills
and knowledge needed as we all push towards GK777.

lumpia October 20th, 2007, 09:04 PM Nice! The complex is really taking shape now! Really hoping that the esplanade will become the new Baywalk (as there aren't any residents there who could start a fuss on the noise-pollution) with added shops and businesses. If they extended the Metrostar ferry operation times in the future to lets say 9pm on Sundays, more people could come to enjoy what activities may take place on the Esplanade without having to worry too much on how to get home if they live further afield (well, at least in Cavite)
Sinjin P. October 20th, 2007, 09:05 PM It was expected to open last month. Isn't it operational yet? I mean, the Sunset Strip?

The Philippines’ next business and tourism hub is rising in Bay City
Manila Times
http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2007/oct/21/yehey/property/20071021prop1.html
Philippine conglomerate SM Investments Corporation (SMIC), has embarked on a multi-billion peso development project for the construction of a 60-hectare mixed-use complex envisioned to become a premier business and tourism destination in the Philippines.
Dubbed the “Mall of Asia Complex”, the project is located along the coast of Manila Bay and will consist of technologically-advanced infrastructure integrated with office, retail, institutional, residential, and leisure components. The complex is now home to the Philippines’ largest shopping mall, the SM Mall of Asia, and will soon boast of the latest business and IT hub, the country’s largest convention center, a 16,000-seat sports and entertainment arena, and a wide range of facilities with recreational, tourism, and residential uses.
“We envision the Mall of Asia Complex to be a prime business and tourism district in the country and in the region,” says SM Investments Corporation executive vice-president for real property Josefino Lucas. “With its unique location by the side of the famous Manila Bay, the Mall of Asia Complex which features an excellent mix of business and leisure elements is expected to boost Philippine tourism as well as redefine Manila’s place among the new and exciting urban centers of Asia.”
The Mall of Asia Complex’s proximity to the international airport, seaports, hotels, and other commercial districts make it ideal for business, will give rise to world-class business facilities such as the OneE-Com Center which is targeted for completion by year-end.
The OneE-Com Center is a 10-storey building designed for e-commerce, contact centers, BPO companies, and specialized office uses. It will provide leading edge facilities such as multi-telco redundancy and connectivity, 100 percent backup power supply, basketball and badminton courts at deck level and central courtyard amenities, to meet the growing needs of technology-based companies with 24/7 operations.
Recently, SMIC formalized a deal with the leading global fitness company Fitness First Philippines, Inc to house the club’s 16th branch in the country on the ground and second levels of OneE-Com Center.
The three-storey, 46,647-square meter building will feature open exhibition areas, multi*functional halls, and flexible meeting rooms with modern exposition amenities for major conferences and trade exhibits.
Another major development project is the SM Arena, a sprawling indoor facility for big-time sports and entertainment events that can seat over 16,000 spectators. This expansive arena is expected to be the venue of choice of major gigs of well-known international artists in the music and entertainment industries.
In addition, the Mall of Asia Complex is set to inaugurate the SM Mall of Asia Science and Discovery Center on October 10, 2007—the first of its kind themed-park devoted solely to science and technology. A partnership between SM Prime Holdings and the US-based Leisure Entertainment Consultancy, the center will feature a digital planetarium and a wide range of technology and science-themed presentations and exhibits.
Likewise in the pipeline are the construction of the SM Ferry, which will feature a modern ferry terminal to service guests and tourists who wish to travel to Cavite city and Bataan, or to SMIC’s eco-tourism development estate, the Hamilo Coast in Nasugbu, Batangas; the SM Land Showroom which will showcase the resort and residential features of the Hamilo estate; and a leisure strip area which is set to soft-open this October, where people can converge and unwind after a hard day’s work and look forward to fresh and hip themed-happenings every month with their choice drinks and spirits. The Mall of Asia Complex will also give rise to real property investments such as deluxe hotels, upscale offices and full-serviced apartments.
SMIC just recently forged a memorandum of agreement with the Microtel Inns and Suites hotel group to put up a 150-hotel room strategically located near the SMX Convention Center and the SM Mall of Asia. Also in the pipeline is the rise of the Radisson Hotel in October 2009 near the OneE-Com Center.
These world-class and high-tech infrastructures and facilities perfectly complement the initial major attraction of the complex—the SM Mall of Asia. Dubbed as the Philippines’ largest mall and among the world’s biggest in terms of gross floor size, the SM Mall of Asia is home to flagship stores of premier establishments which features over 700 shops and dining establishments and offers the country’s first IMAX theater and the first Olympic-sized ice skating rink.
Besides the mall, the Shrine of Jesus, The Way, The Truth and The Life Church and the SM Corporate offices are already in place at the sprawling complex. The SM Corporate offices consist of six one-storey structures which house the corporate offices of the SM Group and Teletech, a major international call center.

The biggest mall in the Philippines has just gotten larger. SM Prime Holdings’ SM Mall of Asia now has 389,241 square meters of gross floor area (previously 386,000) with the opening of its SM Science Discovery Center, a cutting edge futuristic display of new technology, astronomy, robotics, marine life and many other scientific facts and breakthroughs.
The 3,241-square meter SM Science Discovery Center which opened in October 19, is the first of its kind in the Philippines, designed by US-based Leisure Entertainment Consultancy (LEC). The US-based firm specializes in the development and construction of targeted concepts for theme parks, water parks, entertainment, edutainment attractions, museums and leisure tourism destinations. Some of LEC’s known projects include Downtown Disney, Disney’s California Adventure, Legoland, Universal Studios in Hollywood and Orlando, City Walk, and Ramoji Movie Magic Park.
SM Prime President, Mr. Hans Sy said, “We are very excited about this new facility at the SM Mall of Asia. The Science Discovery Center adds a totally new dimension to malling as it guarantees to educate, entertain, and amuse visitors of all ages.”

Sinjin P. October 25th, 2007, 04:55 AM SM Prime Opens Annex 3 of SM City Pampanga (http://smprime.com/News.php?BlurbID=891)
(24 October 2007. Pasay City Philippines.) SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (“SM Prime”) opened Friday, 19 October 2007, the third annex of its SM City Pampanga, one of the largest malls in Central Luzon. The newest annex adds 17,439 square meters (sqm.) of gross floor area (GFA) to the main mall. Two previous annexes were built in 2002 and 2003. With the opening of Annex 3, SM City Pampanga now has a total GFA of 128,089 sqm. and a total building length of 890 meters long or almost one kilometer.
SM Prime President Mr. Hans Sy said: “Our continued expansion in Pampanga is testimony to its strong local economy. Its proximity to Metro Manila and Subic, combined with its international airport in Clark Special Economic Zone makes the province an ideal regional gateway and hub.
Its diverse and refined cuisine is also a source of great pride for its people, giving it an additional attraction to its visitors. All these contribute to heightened ‘malling’ activities in the area and pushed us to further expand SM City Pampanga.”
SM City Pampanga's Annex 3 has 14,025 sqm. of gross leasable area (GLA) and will have among others, restaurants such as The Aristocrat and Flavours of China, and apparel shops Kipling, Von Dutch, Tribal, BYSI Boutique, Celine, Celio, among others. Specialty shops include Davids for Rever, SF-QI Wellness Holistic Spa, and Hearts and Arrow. It will also provide an additional 9,700 sqm. by next year to house a call center.
The mall has anchor tenants SM Department Store and SM Supermarket, along with junior anchor stores such as ACE Hardware, Our Home, SM Appliance Center, Toy Kingdom, Watsons, SportsCentral, and Surplus Shop. It also has six cinemas and a food court.
For the rest of 2007, SM Prime is scheduled to inaugurate SM Taytay, SM Muntinlupa, and the strip mall San Miguel by the Bay at the Esplanade fronting the SM Mall of Asia Complex. SM Prime is also currently expanding SM City Cebu.

PnoyD2Tayo October 25th, 2007, 09:18 PM I visited the MOA for the first time last month. For some reason my friend described it as a "boat" and I didn't see the comparison, maybe it's close to the water and it is huge, I dunno, I just don't get it.
Anyway I noticed the architecture seems familiar. It reminded me of the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami. Apparently they were designed by the same people.
I am impressed by the size of the place but not the stores, some of which are too upscale for my tastes. I spent a lot of time in the outdoors mall area, the one with the Nike store and computer/electronics stores. I didn't eat at the food court, but had lunch at Aristocrat.
The hockey arena is also full-size, which I knew offhand but it's weird to see one inside a mall. It even has a scoreboard!
Overall I preferred TriNoMa to this one. TriNoMa architecture and lanscaping is just top-notch.

Galing akong MOA kahapon, yup "Global Fun" ata iyong name ng mala carnaval na mga rides dun sa side ng One Esplanade. Parang eurostar nga siya sa BGC. I hope SM will put a giant Gondola in Mall of Asia complex someday. Baka bumalik kami mamya ng MOA try namin iyong mga rides dun sa carnaval at baka mag metrostar ferry ride kami...hehehe 120 pesos ang bayad para sa 1 hour ride sa ferry along Manila Bay.

Time to give World Trade Center a run for its money.
Hopefully, it would bigger than WTC dahil kung ganun, mas magiging masaya na ang Hero TV anime convention ngayon Disyembre:banana:

3cr October 27th, 2007, 09:08 AM Pagcor says $15B committed for Manila gambling complex

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) yesterday said foreign investors had committed an initial $15 billion for the first phase of the gaming and entertainment complex, set for groundbreaking this December.
Pagcor chairman Efraim Genuino said the "Bagong Nayong Pilipino- Manila Bay Integrated City will create 200,000 jobs and will be the single biggest dollar investment in the country.
Genuino said that the government will not spend a single centavo on the complex but there are local investors who had shown interest.
Dodie King, senior managing head of the Corporate Communications & Services Department of Pagcor said there are investors from Europe and United States which plan to put up 7 hotels.
Pagcor will give investors a franchise of 25 years renewable for another 25 years.
Genuino earlier said the project will encourage more tourists and he expects that 80 to 90 percent of the revenues derived from its operations will come from tourists. The construction of the first phase of the project will end after 2 to 3 years.
Pagcor’s plan is to have 75 percent of the investment for entertainment while the 25 percent is for gaming, which follows the concept of Las Vegas.
The investors can have all the possible investments they want, as the total land area is 800 hectares. Pagcor only allows investor to come in if it has $1 billion.
3cr October 27th, 2007, 10:15 AM Mall of Asia Complex: The country’s next premier district
Manila Bulletin
http://www.mb.com.ph/SPACE20071027106737.html
Promoting Philippine tourism is the most important job this country has.
It is through tourism that we can compete in the global marketplace," said Henry Sy, Sr.
The words of the Sy family patriarch are more than just words of wisdom… they are a guiding vision. And such a vision is breathing life into SM Investments Corporations’ (SMIC) latest project — the Mall of Asia Complex.
The Mall of Asia Complex is envisioned to be the country’s premier business and tourism district, situated in the coast of Manila Bay. The 60-hectare mixed-use development will integrate technologically advanced infrastructure with office, retail, institutional, residential and leisure components.
The project is expected to boost the country’s tourism industry and redefine Manila’s place among the exciting urban centers of Asia.
At the center of this emerging business district lies the SM Mall of Asia. The 386,000-sqm shopping complex showcases a variety of stores and live entertainment venues, al fresco dining spaces, and interaction areas for the culture and the arts.
Tagged as the largest mall in the Philippines, the SM Mall of Asia offers the ultimate shopping experience with the country’s first IMAX theater, an Olympic-sized ice skating rink, and an upcoming aquarium.
Just a few steps away are the SM Corporate offices, which consist of six sprawling one-story buildings.
Connecting via a pedestrian bridge from the north side of the SM Mall of Asia is the OneE-com Center, which is targeted for completion by year-end. The center is a 10-story contemporary building designed for e-commerce, contact centers, BPO companies, and specialized office uses.
Also set to open in November at the Mall of Asia Complex is the SMX Convention Center — a world-class venue consisting of open exhibition areas, multi-functional halls and flexible meeting rooms with modern exposition amenities for major conference and trade exhibits.
The three-story, 46,000-sqm building with basement and parking, features a second level commercial shops and a pedestrian bridgeway leading to the SM Mall of Asia.
For those looking for the finest boardwalk experience, the complex offers The Esplanade. The 1.5-kilometer strip of fully-landscaped open-space will be allocated to house retail and entertainment establishments and can accommodate up to 800 guests (banquet set-up).
Another major development project is the SM Arena, a sprawling indoor facility for sports and entertainment events that can seat over 16,000 spectators.
Recently, the SM Mall of Asia Science and Discovery Center was inaugurated Oct. 10 – the first of its kind themepark devoted to science and technology. A partnership between SM Prime Holdings and US-based Leisure Entertainment Consultancy, the center will feature a digital planetarium and a wide range of technology and science-themed presentations and exhibits.
In the pipeline are the construction of the SM Ferry, which will feature a modern ferry terminal to service those who wish to travel to Cavite City and Bataan, or to SMIC’s planned eco-tourism development estate, the Hamilo Coast in Nasugbu, Batangas; the SM Land Showroom will showcase the resort and residential features of the Hamilo estate; and a leisure strip area set to soft-open by next month where people can converge and unwind after a hard day’s work and look forward to fresh and hip themed-happenings every month.
The Mall of Asia Complex will also give rise to real property investments such as hotels, upscale offices and full-serviced apartments.
SMIC just recently forged a memorandum of agreement with the Microtel Inns and Suites hotel group to put up a 150-room hotel strategically located near the SMX Convention Center and the Mall of Asia.
The Mall of Asia Complex is owned and developed by the SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) – the holding company of the SM Group of Companies.
At present, SMIC has positioned itself as one of the key players in the real property and tourism development with projects such as the Hamilo Coast, hotels, residential condominiums, retail, shopping malls, and banking and financial institutions.

That's bad for our reputation as Filipinos, I'm a Canadian citizen by choice but a Filipino by birth and blood and here in Canada people are very courteous they'd say sorry even it's not their fault and say thank you a lot. Arguably I always say that north americans (US and Canada) don't have culture but they are more courteous, well Canadian are more than Americans :)
Filipinos boast of our hospitality traits, but is that it?
could it be a cultural change because of the new generations of Filipinos today? I don't know, but that's not good to know Filipinos are not courteous

Canadian's are racist.
Do you still remember the boy who wants to eat with spoon and fork?
He was discreminated by his teacher because his using a spoon when eating.
We can say that Canadians and American are more courteous but do you think they are respectful? I don't think so.

We can say that Canadians and American are more courteous but do you think they are respectful? I don't think so.bump :) thats somewhat true. I'd think a better example to Filipinos on showing courtesy would be the Japanese, who live in crowded, spaghetti-wired cities (pretty much our own, only with loads of cool gadgets and neon sign boards  ), yet are extremely courteous. there is no way in Tokyo that you could get away without saying "Arigatou" (thank you) or "Suimasen" (excuse me) many times over for even buying something at a 7/11 or bumping into someone on the street or in a mall. But then again, considering the fact that those in developed countries have less to grumble about day to day things (such as the price of groceries etc), it would be natural for people to be less courteous in Pinas, regardless of the traditional culture of being hospitable and considerate. Think of it this way, at least the Philippines is far from the worst place in Asia for a record in lack of manners: anyone who has been to any Chinese city will testify that the manners in Metro Manila or Cebu are miles ahead of Hong Kong or Shanghai!!

Blah blah blah JBkayaker...whoever you're tryin to be now.
we are not racists, that was from Quebec, French Canada we condemn that
we didn't like and it shocked us...well they're French and they wanna separate from North America some good and bad reasons oh well. :(
racism still lingers. but judging everyone generally that they are not all respectful!!! that is plain ignorance
When I say something about Quebec because they're french is not fair, because I have a French Canadian friend who is now a Filipino citizen because he loves the Philippines so much and the Filipino people. So please pick your battles carefully dear...
I have a lot of things I dislike about America and Americans but I can't say they are all disrespectful just because they have a dumb president.
why can't we just live in peace and not be bitter about petty things and things from the past...tsk tsk tsk.
hey miss JB why did you change you name?

Oh yeah, I can testify to that about manners of our Asian neighbours...I was an assistant teacher here in Canada at an international school...we have students from mainly Korea, Japan and China/Taiwan also some from Mexico, Brazil, Turkey...and the ones the show bad manners are the Koreans and Taiwanese even if we're teaching them English and some good manners and right conduct in class and life...they just don't... don't even say excuse me or sorry..they just shove what a shame and most of our Korean - Taiwanese students are from affluent families.

pau_p1 October 30th, 2007, 09:13 AM yeah... that's one very noticeable thing on MoA... the claddings are very much weathered already... they are metal if I'm not mistaken.. so I think they need polishing..
thomasian October 30th, 2007, 09:56 AM They're aluminum composite panels. I think polishing is not suitable as it will rub the paint off the material. Punas lang with some mild detegents yata ang pinakasafe na paraan. Tutal makinis naman ang surface nyan, hindi sya dapat ganun kahirap linisan.

Meeting Place in Asia
World Class business facilities, a globally-oriented society, a predominantly english-speaking population and hospitable, friendly people make the Philippines a premier destination for Metings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) in Asia.
http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee255/caramos/IMG_9533.jpg
And today, there is SMX Convention Center, the largest private meeting facility in the Philippines and one of the biggest in Asia. This 3-storey, 46,000 sq.m building consists of open exhibition areas, multi-functional halls and flexible meeting rooms. Designed for international and local events, it offers highly technical facilities from wireless, high-speed internet to fiber-optic cabling and extensive teleconferencing options that allow for all kinds of events from hi-tech interactive trade shows to expositions to concerts to exhibits and receptions.

OtAkAw November 5th, 2007, 03:59 PM The SMX Convention Center looks really good. Although it would've been lots better if tinodo na ng todo ng SM ang disenyo at arkitektura ng building na yan. I wonder how much is the rental fee for the facilities.
bily_lion November 5th, 2007, 04:00 PM How about the sunset strip? When will it open?
xavierdude November 5th, 2007, 04:15 PM nice carpet.. pero kakasawa na yung covelighting and drop ceiling...

I finally had the courage to sign up for skyscraper city because of this thread. Thanks for the info about SMX! I hope to see the rates and info on who to contact for reservations. Definitely maraming mag-uunahan dito.
I'm glad we have a new venue at par with other convention centers around Southeast Asia. I recently visited Kuala Lumpur Convention Center and Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC) and really can't compare the comofort and convenience of these 2 centers to our own PICC. KLCC has a built-in hotel (Traders KL) and guests will just literally go down thru the elevator to go to the function rooms! Very convenient.
Hope we can get more International Conferences here in the Philippines because of this new development!
tyronne November 6th, 2007, 02:17 AM It looks nice! It reminds me a lot of Moscone Center West in San Francisco. Thanks for the pix. :okay:
