Any restos at the 2nd floor. Iba na raw ang location ng Pyro Olympics this year, right in front of the fountain na, which is good. Best location would be at UCC Coffee and Mojito Bay, pero any resto in the 2nd and pwede na rin 1st floor is good. Our family reserved for Lamesa Grill in the 1st floor this Saturday. Sana makakuha ako ng matinong photos.

We had a separate thread for the World Pyro Olympics last year... here is the link to the new thread for the 2008 edition ->>

Teka magulo ang usapan natin kasi saan ba ang front ng OneE-com Center?

Ganito na lang... ang alam kong magiging lugar ng TwoE-com would be the lot to the north of OneE, while the Radisson/Regent would be to the lot northwest of OneE.

Hehe, forgot why I switched to Vista from 98SE, pero may malaking dahilan, di ko lang talaga maalala.

Probably there will be 2 towers in one complex. It's like Ascott (formerly Oakwood). It has 2 towers but belongs to the same complex. Tower 1 can be Radisson and the other one is the Regent.

One good sample is the Le Meridien and Hilton i Kuala Lumpur. they belong to one same structure with 2 towers of the same architecture design. Checkout na lang sa google. I don't know how to put pics here.

Anyway I think with regards to The Fairmont and Raffles.. 3 buildings siya in one complex. pero iba-iba ang design based sa rendering na nakita ko sa website nila..

Exciting projects indeed!

Baka kasi dahil maganda ung Vista. Nakaka-adik kaya siya lalo na ung Aero effect niya sa windows. Ang pang-asar lang ung laging ina-ask kung magco-continue ka o hinde.

SM Investments fosters life-work setup
18 May 2008
Source: Manila Times

Stuck at work but got to do some shopping in-between? Want to say a silent prayer and hear mass before reporting for duty? Have to do your regular workout immediately after office? Need to unwind or rejuvenate after a busy day?

Thanks to the emerging trend in the life-work concept, companies are seeing the wisdom in holding offices near lifestyle centers, prompting a new setup where work is being closely integrated in one’s home and lifestyle environment.

This setup perfectly fits companies with 24/7 operations, whose personnel may have to make an impromptu dash to the shopping mall, restaurant, bar, fitness and health clubs, and even the church, in their rather irregular work schedule.

Taking the lead in this is SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), whose OneE-com Center at the Mall of Asia Complex now provides the convenient life-work setup to the building’s tenants. The OneE-com Center is a 10-storey building designed for the modern office, including e-commerce, contact centers, business process outsourcing, customer relationship management services, and specialized office uses, that fuses lifestyle, leisure and entertainment with the workplace.

“The workplace set-up is changing in response to the needs of employees. Lifestyle, leisure and entertainment-related facilities have now become important components for the modern office. This is the trend and it’s good because the employees can concentrate on their work and still go about their regular activities without wasting so much time, especially for travel. The OneE-com Center is designed to meet the needs of today’s new generation of employees who also lead a dynamic lifestyle,” said Josefino Lucas, SMIC’s executive vice president for real property.

Through a bridgeway, employees can easily hop in next door to the SM Mall of Asia, the country’s largest shopping mall, for their retail therapy or a quick lunch.

If headed for the gym, they just go down the ground level to Fitness First, sparing themselves the extra time to shuttle from the office to fitness center. Or they drop by deck level to play badminton or basketball at OneE-Com Center’s own recreational facilities.

After a hard day, OneE-Com Center’s workers can choose from bars and restaurants scattered around the Mall of Asia. They may even seek a refreshing spa, readily available at MOA’s roster of wellness and relaxation centers.

But if they’re in the mood for nature, a trip to the bay-side strip lets employees unwind and enjoy the breeze amid the breathtaking Manila Bay sunset. For their spiritual needs, they can take a short walk to the Shrine of Jesus, The Way, The Truth and The Life and have a quiet meditation and solemn celebration amidst a scenic backdrop.

“It’s truly nice to work at OneE-com. Everything’s already here - we can wine and dine, go shopping, watch a movie, have a spa, work out, hear mass, or simply admire nature. Our workplace and its environs have become practically a second home to us that we only go home to sleep and change clothing,” said one satisfied employee.

“The OneE-Com Center’s live-work concept is in harmony with the SMIC’s overall plan to develop the 60-hectare Mall of Asia Complex into a premier business and tourism hub that integrates technologically advanced infrastructure with office, retail, institutional, residential and leisure components,” said an executive.

Without a doubt, working while leading a dynamic lifestyle is a luxury that workers can enjoy day in and day out at the OneE-Com Center, the country’s fast-rising prime hub for business and commerce.

It is illegal, but iba na kasi kapag religion ang pinaguusapan e. I'm sure the government or whoever is concerned are just being cautious.Yes. They could not remove them immediately. And I think it is a Muslim settlement too. OK. I'm not stereotyping or what but there are really many sensitive issues to deal with. Even demolishing that mosque there is already a big issue.

Yun ang alam ko kasi napanood ko sa TV. Dati nung pinapaalis sila si Alma Moreno ang tagapagtanggol nila eh :lol:Probable kasi naging "1st lady" siya ng Parañaque. And there were many squatters around our city in her husband's term. Just imagine how Baclaran was then compared at present.

something to look forward toI really hope that they will still continue the 70's vision for Nayong Pilipino. For me, it is still and will always be a cultural park, meant to showcase our rich heritage. And not merely a milking cow for certain businesses.

I don't like the "dampa" / "paluto" idea sa Sunset Strip. Parang mas mahal pa ang pagpapaluto compared to the raw ingredients. May ibang restaurants naman dun na may ala carte menu pero kulang pa din.

I like Mall of Asia compared to Trinoma, I was a bit disappointed with Trinoma because I was expecting something nice at their outdoor garden on the top floor but when I got there and saw the landscaping, it was kinda boring. It was nothing like the Greenbelt garden.

What I like about Mall of Asia is the open space, inside and out. Not crowded at all, well at least the last few times I've visited, there was not many people around. My friend and I during our last two visits had a meal at one of the restaurants facing the bay area and it was wonderful. Bay breeze coupled with a beautiful view and the delicious food. It was a great time for us.:)

Too big is a good description, variety of shops seem to be the same as all the ones we've visited in Metro Manila. It doesn't really matter to me since I was just a visitor. I like it because of all the ones I have visited, Mall of Asia was the least crowded. This one is definitely for visitors and the price is just right without the pretensions of other malls or at least the pretentions of other shoppers.:)

Hahahaha obviously both of you were not paying attention to what I have been posting. Unfortunately as much as I like the Philippines, it has many faults and many faults I have seen and experienced and much of it I have posted here.

Wake up, it is not at all a bed of roses in the Philippines, sadly with people like you who only wants to see and hear the good side of the story and nothing else tells alot about you as a person. Hahaha.

You should go home once in a while. Perhaps you're a bit envious I have been back 5 times the last 5 years and I have stories to tell good and BAD about the Philippines while you on the other hand just surf the net for information.

http://www.photobucket.com/albums/v635/jbkayaker12/2007PICS/figaro.jpg
While I was waiting in line to get a drink at Figaro, this b*tch was so rude to the foreign tourists trying to buy some drinks, she was not smiling at all and she was not polite at all. Things were flying off her hand instead of laying it down properly. I was embarrassed just watching her with these foreigners. When it was my turn, same thing happened and not even a thank you. Worse, when I got my drink it was warm and mind you I ordered ICED Chocolate, all the ice has melted even before my first sip. I had to go back and asked for a cup of ice so that I can have a refreshing COLD drink. Poor thing as much as I want to say something to this b*tch I decided just to give her the benefit of the doubt.

http://www.photobucket.com/albums/v635/jbkayaker12/2007PICS/figaro2.jpg

^^ The exchanges are simply reflective of reality and everyone makes sense.

Our perception is simply dependent upon the eyeglasses or lenses (inside our brains) we wear. If we wear pink lenses, we perceive the outside world as pink. Nothing wrong with that.

Like any country, Pinas has many great things and imperfections. But the more important question is, what are we going to focus on? Is it the the bad or the good?

It's fine to focus on the bad only if we want to change it for the better because simply complaining about it won't change things.

In general, MOA is a positive dev't in the country that some 1st world countries will surely envy.

First of all re-read and comprehend what you are reading.

I said, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. If you know what that means.

I did not say or has done nothing to her to get such rude service and so did the foreign tourists.

I could have made a nasty comment to her after everything that has happened but instead I let it go.

What made you think I have more money simply because I was visiting the Philippines, another ignorant view of many Filipinos living in the Philippines in regards to other Filipinos who've migrated overseas.

Next time read and comprehend!!!!

Your petty remarks speak of you. While I post about my good experience in the Philippines, you post ill of me. Instead of being glad, you ridicule. You don't like to read about things that are not going well in the Philippines and yet when I post something nice you instantly turn around and post petty remarks.:ohno:

Telling the truth and not ignoring it is better than pretending nothing is wrong.

Where are you coming with this "use it as a weapon to bring our country men and women down'?:ohno:

You are overly dramatic!! I am just telling my experiences from being in the country as a visitor. I have lived there for close to 20 years and to tell you frankly I am speaking from experience as well when I say things have gone for the worse.

I am not here to solve the problems in the Philippines, no outside help can change things in the Philippines unless the peoples' ways start to change. Im talking about everyone there. No amount of help, financial or otherwise will help change the course of the Philippines if the people there won't change their ways.

I really love that place though people need to be thought how to dispose of garbage properly.

Sometimes I call on people to stop throwing their trash but alas there's too many of them.

Also the trash from the waves usually get caught up in the shoreline of the place. It really looks messy. I wonder what's a solution for that? A net perhaps.

Packer to invest $1.5B in casino venture -- PAGCOR

Agence France-Presse
First Posted 15:41:00 06/16/2008

MANILA, Philippines -- Australian gaming and media tycoon James Packer is expected to sign a $1.5-billion deal to build a hotel and casino resort in the Philippines, an official said Monday.

Dodie King, spokesman for the government-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) said he expected a deal would be signed with Packer "within the next few weeks."

Packer's resort will form part of a $20-billion project which PAGCOR hopes will turn 120 hectares (297 acres) of reclaimed land on Manila Bay into one of Asia's biggest gaming destinations on par with Macau.

PAGCOR, which regulates and issues gaming licenses in the Philippines, unveiled the multi-billion dollar project in April and has attracted interest from around the world.

King confirmed media reports that the Packer deal was being negotiated through Bloomsbury Investments, which already paid a deposit of $100 million for a 1,700-room resort and convention complex.

"I cannot say anything at this stage as talks are continuing," King told AFP.

"But we do expect that a deal will be finalized within the next few weeks."

Four other companies have reportedly expressed interest in the project: Japan's Aruze Corp., Genting Berhad Group from Malaysia and Star Cruises, and SM Investments Corp. of the Philippines.

So far, only Genting has been granted a license to operate a casino.

It is expected that companies investing in the project will spend up to $3 billion each building hotels, casinos, entertainment complexes and a golf course.

OT: It is subjective when you say majority of the visitors see the negative side. I used to live overseas for 6 years and traveled a lot, and consequently received foreign friends here in Manila but never heard from them any magnified negativity about our country.

The Philippines is a better place for me - first class condos, malls, beaches, beautiful countryside, developed secondary cities like Cebu, Davao, etc., entertainment scenes are vibrant (anything you want, it's here),. you don't have to wash your clothes, clean your house, bath room which I hate so much :)

Lastly, of course, you need to have the "resources" to enjoy these things.

When something good happens
FROM A DISTANCE By Carmen N. Pedrosa
Saturday, June 21, 2008

The first time I met Chairman Efraim Genuino was at a party at the Canadian Ambassador’s house some years ago. He had just entered the room when barely introduced to him he came out gushing on what he was doing for Pagcor, his vision for it and his ideas of a ‘Las Vegas’ in Manila that were probably just percolating in his mind. I dismissed it as another of those wild musings of a bureaucrat who wanted to impress a journalist.

I met him again a few days ago. He was still the same ebullient person but all that he talked about then at the party was now reality. Or nearly so. But I did tell him it can still be undone by the next administration. He said the construction of Entertainment City Manila “is in line with President Arroyo’s eight-point agenda, which aims to revitalize the tourism industry, in particular, and the Philippine economy.”

This is the story of our on again, off again economic development unless we shift to parliamentary system and vote officials through their government programs.

In writing this column, I must remind my readers that I am fully aware that Efraim Genuino is a controversial person – said to be a friend of the First Gentleman, a funding conduit to politicians etc. etc. but so was former chairwoman Alice Reyes or any other head of gambling for that matter. But it is untrue that they do only ‘bad’ things. They also do good things and Genuino’s triumph in fulfilling his vision is one of the most promising for the country.

* * *

As he traveled around the world he picked up ideas here and there — Las Vegas, Disneyland, Macau — he put them together in one big idea as Entertainment City Manila in more than 3,000 hectares.

As Efraim’s brainchild evolved it became as big, if not bigger than a city. He envisioned arcades, wellness spas, malls, hotels, cultural centers, sports arenas, residential villages, a state-of-the-art monorail system, theme parks, and more. Even hospitals.

It could be like Macao but it could also be Hongkong. While many ideas came to mind he remained loyal to one — to offer wholesome fun for the whole family. In seeing this vision through he would also succeed in helping the country solve unemployment, promote tourism and lure foreign investments. He calculates it will generate 250,000 jobs and says those who work in Entertainment City Manila will be paid in dollars.

The entire concept is so staggering that I did not quite connect what he was saying as he circled around the miniature model of the new city pointing at where the hotels, parks and museums will be.

This has been written about so many times but as I write I wonder just what made this enterprise different from others. For one, the motive is not something to quarrel about. To him, gambling is just a form of entertainment. Had he confined his mind to this one form, Pagcor, with whatever vision he had, would not have moved an inch. The compelling idea was how to remove the stigma of gambling. This he did by casting his net wider — he thought of a place which would not be just for gambling but for entertainment of the whole family. This is a multibillion venture and there are quite a few competitors — Las Vegas, Macao, Hongkong, even London and Paris if you come to think of it which have their own share of casinos and favorite haunts of high rollers as well as being cultural cities.

Efraim says people do not realize Pagcor contribution today to the national economy. “We’re the third biggest revenue earner for the government,” he said. The group’s earnings go to public health and other social issues while 50 percent goes to the national treasury enabling the government to carry out priority projects for the poor like the Early Childhood Care and Development Program, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 among others. A big slice goes to Philippine Sports Commission.

* * *

Yes, but where will he get the money for this staggering dream? Well, his short answer was — the money for the project or at least the show money is already in the bank held in escrow. I was incredulous — how did you do it? From the start Efraim knew that he would have to take charge of his project and that he could not expect any help from the government. He had to find the money on his own unlike his competitors in Macau, Singapore and Malaysia that were supported by their respective governments. The whole project would cost at least $15 billion, to be built in three stages over the next decade, with the first phase expected to be completed by 2010.

Four investors put up $400 million each to show that they are financially committed to these projects. Three of the approved investors are foreign with extensive interests in the gaming, leisure and tourism industry. The fourth is SM Investment Corp. which plans to construct a world-class gaming facility with Asia Pacific Gaming from Australia, and a major luxury hotel to be managed by Radisson Hotels & Resorts, plus a museum and sports arena.

Others are Aruze Corp. of Japan. It plans to construct an integrated resort featuring 2,000 standard rooms and 300 VIP suites, a major oceanarium targeted to be the world’s largest, theaters, a sports arena and a special museum, and a giant Ferris wheel similar to the London Eye, to be called as the Manila Eye. Genting Berhad of Malaysia, with its subsidiary Star Cruises and Philippine property giant Alliance Global, will build several hotels, a world-class theme park carrying the Universal Studios brand, a museum, plus a tower that will be the tallest in the world. Star Cruises, which is listed in the Hong Kong bourse, has an agreement with Travelers International, a subsidiary of Allied Global, for 40 percent of its stake in Newport City, a mixed use residential development near the Manila Bay site. Under the terms of reference signed by all four parties, the casinos should be up and running within 2-1/2 years, and phase one of the approved project must be completed within five years.

* * *

You can get a peek into what Entertainment City Manila would be about with the musical cum acrobatic extravaganza “Wanders” now showing at the Pagcor Grand Theater near the airport. It is a Philippine version of the world-famous performing troupe Cirque du Soleil. It brings world-class entertainment with topnotch Filipino musicians, entertainers and talents, with agile acrobats from China and a host of ballet dancers from Russia. It is one and a half hours of non-stop entertainment for young and old alike.

The Chinese acrobats were chosen from the various acrobatic troupes in the Henan province of China. Henan is considered the breeding ground of the world’s top acrobatic performers. Acrobatics (Hundred Plays) have been part of the Chinese culture since the Western Han Dynasty over 2,500 years ago.

Muslims in Baclaran, Groups Resist Forced Eviction

12 June 2008. Muslims have warned the government against the demolition of their mosque situated at a reclamation site in Baclaran and said that forced eviction of some 300 families would be the bloodiest in Philippine history.

Tension gripped the Muslim community Wednesday after a government demolition team tried to approach the residents who are willing to fight to their death opposing forced eviction and the demolition of their shanties.

Armed with sticks and stones, angry residents blocked some 200 crewmen while some 30 Special Weapons and Action Team (SWAT) secure the area.

As early as 7 am, police were already in the area, according to Abdelmanan Tanandato. Tanandato, a local leader, said the demolition team is using a writ of execution issued by Fortunito Madrona, Presiding Judge of the Parañaque City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 274.

By 9 am, the demolition team started to move in the Muslim community but they later backed off due to the fierce offensive movement of residents. Chanting “Alah Wakbar” (Alah is great), residents had vowed to protect the mosque.

they have the nerve to use violence, they don't even own the land they're fighting for. What saddens me is that they are using religion as a reason to stop the demolition. So, what are they trying to portray Christians vs. Muslims that's so unfair.

Mayor to head Manila Bay’s reclaimed area

By Ferdinand Fabella
Manila Standard Today

Pasay City Mayor Wenceslao Trinidad has taken direct control of the sprawling Reclamation Area after it failed to be converted into a new barangay.

Under the recently passed Ordinance no. 4177, he would serve as ex-officio chairman with members of the city council comprising the ex-officio village legislature, governing the 32.2-square kilometer commercial-business district.

Councilor Reynaldo Padua, co-author of the measure, said the Reclamation Area on a section along the Diosdado Macapagal Avenue and Roxas Boulevard, was “negative of barangay jurisdiction,” falling short of the required number of residents to create a basic political unit.

The present bonafide residents, mostly informal settlers or squatters, are below the minimum of 5,000 inhabitants, following Section 386 of the 1991 Local Government Code, stated the ordinance.

“Pending the eventual compliance with the minimum population requirement, the city government has the duty and obligation to closely supervise and govern the affairs in the Reclamation Area,” Padua said.

Also called “Bay City,” the widened shoreland boasts the SM Mall of Asia Complex as the flagship establishment on a 19.5-hectare strip fronting Manila Bay.

City hall is planning to put up a business district behind the SM facility along with hotels, entertainment centers and docking facilities for cruise ships and yachts.

A memorandum of agreement has been signed with the West Marina Bay Development Inc. for the P15-billion Pasay Near Shore Development Project under a build-operate-transfer scheme.

SM group plans stadium
By Jenniffer B. Austria, 7 Jul 2008
Source: Manila Standard Today

SM Investments Corp. is building a sports stadium in the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City that will compete with the country’s biggest sports and entertainment arena, the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

SM Investments first executive vice president Hans Sy told reporters the company would initially start construction of the parking building in preparation for the sports stadium.

The proposed sports stadium will have a capacity of 15,000 seats and host basketball games, boxing contests, and other sports and entertainment events. SM Investments said it would build the arena on a two-hectare area.

Construction of the stadium is scheduled to be completed by 2010.

Sy declined to say the estimated cost of the stadium.

Sy said the company was inspired to push through with the establishment of a sports stadium within the Mall of Asia Complex following the success of the SMX Convention Center.

Sy said unlike the Araneta Coliseum, which was shaped like a dome, the sports stadium will have a cylindrical shape.

Araneta Coliseum, which has a seating capacity of 25,000, is currently the largest indoor facility in Southeast Asia, with a dome diameter of 108 meters.

Nicknamed “The Big Dome,” it hosts sporting and entertainment events in the country.

Construction of the Araneta Coliseum started in 1957 and ended in late 1959. it occupies a total land area of almost four hectares and has a 2,300-square meter floor area.

The Araneta Coliseum embarked on a P250-million renovation in 1999. the renovation includes a complete back-of-the-house overhaul with the construction of a plush locker, dressing, production and press rooms. All seats for the premier sections in the patron and lower box areas were replaced.

The Aranetas installed a new catwalk to accommodate the most technically demanding event setups in addition to housing a four-sided center hung scoreboard, the only one of its kind in the Philippines.

The Sy family, meanwhile, plans to construct its 2Ecom, the second office building catering to business process outsourcing companies.

SM Investments is also lining up two hotel projects within the Mall of Asia, namely Regent and Radisson Hotels.

The Mall of Asia Complex is a 60-hectare property being developed by SM Investments into a premier business and tourism destination.

Bullish SM group still in expansion mode
By Honey Madrilejos-Reyes, 7 Jul 2008
Source: Business Mirror

SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), the listed conglomerate of mall magnate Henry Sy, continues to see opportunities in times of crisis, as seen in the continuing expansion within Mall of Asia.

Hans Sy, one of the sons of the patriarch and president of SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPH), said they continue to carry out expansion projects, as there remain “saving graces” in the economy—citing nonstop remittances from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and expansion of the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector.

“I think consumer spending has become more concentrated here. Some people, instead of going abroad to shop, opt to just stay here,” he said.

SMIC, through SMPH, operates the largest chain of shopping malls in the country, or 33 by the end of the year.

As far as the MOA complex is concerned, Sy said there is a plan to build a second E-Com building to serve requirements for office spaces as well a 15,000-seater sports stadium, which can also be a venue for concerts. More parking spaces will likewise be built.

The E-Com building will consist of 14 floors. The sports stadium, on the other hand, will sit on a 2-hectare lot and will be cylindrical in shape. It will be ready by 2010.

Construction for all will begin this year.

SMIC said earlier it will sell fixed-rate bonds to raise funds to refinance existing loan obligations.

In a statement, the company, which holds interests in retail, property development and financial services, said it has appointed UBS AG as the lead manager for the issuance.

“The determination of the pricing, terms and conditions, and other features of the bonds are delegated to management to negotiate and finalize with the lead manager,” it said.

It added that a subsequent disclosure to corporate regulator Securities and Exchange Commission and Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) will be made as soon as the board approves the final issue size, pricing, terms and conditions and other features of the bonds.

SMIC did not indicate how much of its debts will be refinanced. Based on its filing with the PSE, its bank loans amounted to P5.22 billion at the end of the first quarter.

A fixed-rate bond is a long-term debt paper that carries a predetermined interest rate payable at specified dates before bond maturity.

In February 2007, SMIC successfully launched its 5-year convertible bonds. The transaction was expanded to US$ 300 million, including the greenshoe option from the original offer size of US$ 200 million.

Proceeds from the offering were used to refinance a portion of its maturing obligations and for general corporate purposes.

They were your visitors and you may not have heard anything negative said about the Philippines purely out of respect for you as their host but the sad reality of it all is quite different. The beaches are a mess, the seas overfished with corals dynamited out of existence, the forests denuded, the cities polluted and worse, people lack discipline.

The "resources" you are talking about, I have experienced while living in the Philippines. I grew up with a house help in a house and mind you not a rental. I've lived with my grandmother while my parents worked overseas to give us a better life and education.

Don't get me wrong, I've visited the Philippines the last few years to enjoy its beaches and mountains but unfortunately it was disappointing to see the locals lack of respect for their environment.

Now as far as my experiences the last 5 years of visiting the Philippines, let me repeat what I told my aunt during my last visit. I will die from stress if I ever live back in the Philippines again.

It will be an endless debate, arguing with you on your perception about the country. My guests/friends who are non-pinoys came here not only once. The fact is: they returned more than twice and one of them (Aussie) already bought a unit at Bellagio, the Fort and another one is also planning to buy a condo unit at same area. I am not into beaches and mountains, thus the difference. I appreciate living in big cities, with skyscrapers :) , with access to good things in life.

Frankly, I would also experience unwarranted stress and would probably age faster had I chosen to live there- in your adopted country.

You may not accept this but it seems to me though that you have a deep longing for your home country -- having visited the place for the past five years. :) Honestly, that's a lot of visit from a person who gets stressed.

Sa tingin ko yung pangalawa ang gagawin nila.

Saw Alicia Keys' concert ad sa Phil Star, and it said that the venue is at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds, in front of SMX Convention Center.

actually that's not good either, it just means we have too many unemployed or underemployed that service pay is too cheap. Too many bodies picking up after those who can afford can be labor used for more productive work.

Asian Food Festival at SM Mall Of Asia (http://www.philstar.com/archives.php?aid=2008080229&type=2)
By Ernest Reynoso Gala
Sunday, August 3, 2008
Herbs and spices bring a symphony of taste to food, a phenomenon more prevalent in Asia, a melting pot for in-novative dishes. A playground for culinary creativity, the various ingredients and di-verse methods of cooking bring a wealth of flavor not found in any other continent. Like language, cuisine is a part of culture, educating not only the palate but also the history of the region, reminding us that the world is full of wonderful surprises waiting to be discovered. Our busy lifestyles and frantic schedules have made traveling difficult; fortunately there is one establishment that has it all — a culinary hotspot with the best restaurants in town — SM Mall of Asia. Bigger than life, the mall launched the Asian Food Festival, starting Aug. 8 till Aug. 31, an event featuring top dishes from different countries, giving customers a chance to experience scrumptious food without the inconvenience of traveling far. (Although travel may be in your future, since every P500 single receipt purchase at any restaurant entitles you to a raffle coupon for a trip for two to Beijing with hotel accomodation.) Interest and appreciation of Asian food has been increasing, and SM Mall of Asia is at the forefront of this gourmet extravaganza.

China Palace: Dine like royals

Known for being one of the best Hong Kong-style restaurants in the country, and previously only enjoyed by members and their guests at the Tagaytay Highlands Country Club, China Palace’s mastery in their use and execution of ingredients is second to none. The balanced flavor, contrasting texture of spongy and crispy, like the bean curd with sweet and sour sauce, is perfect. Tender, moist, and melt-in-the-mouth lamb chops that easily slide away from the bone are complemented by a pepper sauce that is both spicy and sweet. Like everything else on the menu, the dimsum is a real treat as well as the other must-try seafood dishes. With 19 lauriat tables and six function rooms, this huge authentic Chinese restaurant prides itself on its exclusive dining experience, one previously enjoyed only by the elite and now available to all. China Palace is the brainchild of certified gourmet and business mogul Henry Sy and is located at the 2nd floor, Entertainment Mall, South Wing, SM Mall of Asia. For reservations, call 556-0291.

Prince of Jaipur: Spice of life

The seasonings, spices and herbs in Indian cooking are endless. The diversity and complexity of their cuisine reflects this country’s rich culture, and Prince of Jaipur puts it together and makes it delicious. The scent of garam masala, a blend of roasted ground spices composed of black pepper, coriander, cumin, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, fennel and mace, fills the air, enticing clients to expect a pleasurable dining experience. Specialties include naan or baked soft breads, motion rare or goat mixed with various spices, sabji bahar or mixed vegetables with cottage cheese, basmati rice harvested from the mountains of northern India, and lacha paratha, a dessert similar to puff pastry. It’s completely authentic — after eating you feel energized as the spices are believed to help in the circulation of the body. For a special order of southern Indian cuisine, two days’ notice and a minimum of 15 people are required.

Prince of Jaipur is located at the 2nd floor, Entertainment Mall, North Wing, SM Mall of Asia. For reservations, call 556-0839.

Hai: Chinese cuisine, global flavor

A Mandarin word for “facing the sea,” this new restaurant offers a variety of dishes that will tantalize your taste buds. You will fall in love with the menu, which caters to both meat eaters and vegetarians. You’ll also be licking your lips in anticipation of food that is simple, full of flavor, and global in taste, attracting everyone from all parts of the world. The lotus fried rice, a rich blend of oyster sauce, shrimp, Chinese sausage, and rice cooked on a lotus leaf and steamed for five minutes is highly recommended. The pomelo salad with sun dried tomato dressing is a great combination of iceberg and romaine lettuce, wansuey, vinaigrette, with the optional maho or pork floss. It’s very refreshing and the contrast of sweet and sour just works well. The pan-fried fish on a bed of asparagus with Superior sauce is topnotch, and my personal favorite, the tofu, broccoli flower with mushroom, is easily the signature dish of Hai.

Hai is located on the 2nd floor, Entertainment Mall, South Wing, SM Mall of Asia. For reservations, call 556-0815.

Fish and Co.: Seafood for the soul

Without a shadow of a doubt, Fish and Co. has the best fish and chips in town. Using cream dory from Vietnam, it is the best, making you want to order and take out during every visit. The well-loved fried calamari is generously served, and the soft-shell crab salad is savored to the last bite. Succulent and sure to whet your appetite with its chunky meat is the mussels in butter sauce. For fans of prawns, the spicy sambal is for you, with its chili sauce topped with fresh chili. The grilled pork chop in caper sauce is fantastic, brilliantly cooked to perfection. All the seafood is imported and the highest standards of safety apply in preparation.

Fish and Co. is located at the ground floor, Entertainment Mall, South Wing, SM Mall of Asia. For reservations, call 556-0683.

Via Mare: Merienda fiesta fare

The merienda fare in Via Mare brings back pleasant memories of my childhood; the taste is consistent and the quality world-class. The pancit luglog oozes with prawn fat extracted from the head and with the addition of squid, pork, and homemade chicharon, it has become a definite must-try Filipino delicacy. For lovers of sweets, look no further and try bilao number two. Good for five to six persons, these assortments of native desserts include bibingka with Laguna cheese and queso de bola, palitaw, bibingka cassava, and puto maya. Only served in Mall of Asia, this merienda fiesta exemplifies mastery and delicious food at its finest.

Via Mare is located at the 2nd floor, Entertainment Wing, North Wing, SM Mall of Asia. For reservations, call 556-0770.

Healthy Shabu Shabu: Healthy dining at its best

Health is wealth, and this way of living is becoming ever more popular today. Healthy Shabu Shabu promotes this lifestyle, with guests encouraged to order their choice of fresh meats, noodles, seafood, or vegetables and cook in individual hot pots that contain a clear broth (with no MSG and oil). A bowl of natural spices is placed on the side to enhance flavor. Exciting and fun, guests become instant cooks, encouraged to try something unique and awaken their culinary senses. Good for the heart and food for the soul, Healthy Shabu Shabu is not your typical restaurant, but a gourmet destination that must be visited.

Healthy Shabu Shabu is located at the 2nd floor, Entertainment Mall, North Wing, SM Mall of Asia. For reservations, call 556-0354.

Star Cruises buys half of Alliance Global’s tourism arm

ANDREW TAN-led Alliance Global Group, Inc. has finalized a deal with Hong Kong-listed Star Cruises Ltd. for a stake in Alliance’s Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc. and for the development of two tourism projects in Metro Manila.

In a disclosure, Alliance said the world’s third largest cruise operator would acquire a 50% interest in the company’s tourism arm for $335 million.

Star Cruises is a member of the Malaysian-based Genting Group, one of the largest leisure and entertainment companies in the world, with total assets of $6.4 billion last year.

"The agreement allows Alliance and Star Cruises to pursue strategic and collaborative agreements in relation to the development and operation of leisure and entertainment projects in the Philippines, starting with the Newport City and Bagong Nayong Pilipino Entertainment City Manila projects," the company said.

Travellers will invest $1.55 billion in two large-scale tourism-oriented projects in Metro Manila over the next five years, which will make it the largest hotel owner in the country with a total of 5,000 rooms, the company said in a statement yesterday.

Of the amount, $1.1 billion will be allotted to develop a 37-hectare property in the Manila Bay area into an entertainment city called the Manila Bayshore, which will host several hotels with about 3,400 rooms, and a theme park that can compete with some of the best theme parks in the US and Asia.

Meanwhile, the remaining $450 million will be used to build three hotels and a shopping and entertainment center in Newport City, a 25-hectare urban resort complex near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.

Once completed, the Newport City hotel project will have about 1,600 rooms. The six-star Maxims Hotel will account for 176 rooms, the five-star Marriott Hotel with 365 rooms, and a three-star hotel with 1,060 rooms.

Marriott is expected to open in 2009, while Maxims and the three-star hotel will start operations by 2010.

Travellers obtained a license to develop the two tourism projects from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. in June. Both projects are expected to generate at least 108,000 jobs when fully operational.

"The next few years will be exciting for the Philippine tourism industry, and we want to play a major role in promoting and developing this industry," Alliance Global President Kingson Sian said in a statement.

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority recently named Newport City as one of the country’s first tourism economic zones, while the Manila Bayshore project will serve as tourists’ gateway to the country via Manila Bay.

The company said Travellers and Star Cruises are planning to make Manila one of Star Cruises’ regular ports of call.

"We are exploring the possibility of bringing in the tourists aboard Star Cruises ships as our way of reviving the interest in ’cruising the seas’ and making our visitors experience a different way of entering the country," Mr. Sian said. — Kristine Jane R. Liu

Manila Bay rehab to cost P100B, SC told (http://archive.inquirer.net/view.php?db=1&story_id=154324)

MANILA, Philippines—It will cost around P100 billion to rehabilitate the Manila Bay, according to Environment Secretary Lito Atienza.

It should start with putting up a waste water treatment facility, which the two private water distributors in Metro Manila should have long begun as part of their contract with the government, Atienza told the Supreme Court en banc Tuesday.

“It would be impossible to clean the water in the Manila Bay as long as domestic wastes flow into the canals, into the Pasig River and into Manila Bay,” he said.

Atienza and other government officials are asking the Supreme Court to reverse a Court of Appeals ruling requiring them to come up with a consolidated plan to rehabilitate Manila Bay. They are also seeking the dismissal of the original complaint that concerned citizens living near the bay filed against them more than eight years ago.

The complainants wanted the courts to require that government agencies submit a plan of action to rehabilitate Manila Bay and restore it to “SB” classification, meaning it would be fit for swimming, diving, fishing and other recreational activities.

Assistant Solicitor General Amparo Cabotaje-Tang argued that Manila Bay had not been classified yet and since it has several uses, like for navigation, it would be impossible for it to attain “SB” classification.

The hearing Tuesday lasted for five hours, with many high court justices expressing dismay over how much Manila Bay has deteriorated.

Atienza said that setting up a sewage treatment facility was part of the government contract with water distribution concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water.

One of the concessionaires has started, with only 12 percent covered so far, while the other has not started anything, he said. If this rate is sustained, Atienza said the metropolis would have its sewage treatment facility in 100 years. Atienza did not name the water companies concerned.

Speaking for the concerned citizens who had filed the original case against the government, environmental lawyer Antonio Oposa Jr. said the failure of the government to rehabilitate the bay was tantamount to “criminal negligence.”

“We have turned the Manila Bay into a toilet bowl which is not even flushed,” Oposa told the court.

He urged the Supreme Court to maintain the Court of Appeals ruling and form a committee of experts to monitor the implementation of a consolidated plan to save Manila Bay.

Oposa said the government has actually already complied with the appellate court decision that it is seeking to be reversed.

He said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources had come up with an “Operational Plan for the Manila Bay Coastal Strategy” which details projects and budget to rehabilitate Manila Bay. The 108-page plan was completed in 2005, Tang’s copy of the plan showed.

With the plan already drafted, Oposa said what they want is just to make sure that it would be implemented.

The Supreme Court required the opposing parties to submit their memorandums within 30 days.

NGO urges DENR to bare P100-B Manila Bay plan
By Katherine Adraneda
Thursday, August 14, 2008
A non-government organization urged the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to disclose to the public the master plan of the P100-billion Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project to prevent anomalies in the ambitious program to clean up the polluted bay.

The members of the Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) said the fishermen that would be affected by the clean up of Manila Bay have not been consulted about the project that seeks to restore the bay’s fishing grounds to its healthy state.

Fernando Hicap, chairman of Pamalakaya, said their group has 9, 200 members in the Manila Bay area, and some 87,000 members nationwide and the DENR have not consulted the affected sectors regarding the project.

“This is the first time we came across with this P100-billion Manila Bay Rehabilitation Project. Pamalakaya leaders and members in the areas got to know that such plan exists and was already completed three years ago,” Hicap claimed.

The oral argument started yesterday at the Supreme Court (SC) on the class suit filed against the government over the pollution of Manila Bay,

Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Lito Atienza and other government officials have asked the SC to reverse a Court of Appeals (CA) decision that required the government to come up with a consolidated plan to rehabilitate Manila Bay.

Lawyer Antonio Oposa Jr. represented the complainants during Tuesday’s oral argument at the SC.

Oposa, a member of the Executive Planning Committee for the International Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (INECE), urged the Court to maintain the CA ruling and form a committee that will monitor the implementation of the action plan drawn by the government to clean up the “excessively polluted” Manila Bay.

Atienza welcomed the class suit filed against the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and other government agencies before the Supreme Court by a group of concerned citizens for the immediate rehabilitation of the Manila Bay.

“I definitely welcome this class suit and I would like to congratulate the environmental group that lodged this case because they know, as the DENR knows as well, the problem besetting the Manila Bay,” Atienza said during the en banc hearing of the case by the Supreme Court.

Atienza said, the degradation of Manila Bay has been going on for decades and that its rehabilitation must start by addressing the root cause of the problem, which is the lack of sewage treatment facilities, which should have been established before by water concessionaires.

The degradation of Manila Bay is largely attributed to domestic waste coming from households and industries. To this day, household wastes are drained directly into esteros, creeks and rivers without undergoing treatment. These untreated wastes, including waste from industries and agriculture, go directly into Pasig River and Laguna Lake until they end u in Manila Bay.

For this, Atienza called on Metro Manila’s water concessionaires to fast track the setting up of a waste treatment facility to finally make it possible to start an honest-to-goodness cleanup of Manila Bay.
