newgabskii February 21st, 2009, 08:29 PM saan dyan yung proposed casino projects?
the proposed casino projects is at the ecity(not yet materialized)... this is at the moa complex... :)
kalbongdad February 22nd, 2009, 02:15 PM yung pagcor ecity...nagsimula na they already had their ground breaking ceremony.....medyo yung development hindi pa lang nakikita...mababa pa....hopefully...matuloy ito kahit....na meron economic recession sa mundo...
in_a_rush February 22nd, 2009, 04:23 PM the proposed casino projects is at the ecity(not yet materialized)... this is at the moa complex... :)
im referring to the casino project of SM. according sa article it will be in the Moa complex (and then they will integrate MOA complex to the ecity) . but i guess, that plan is old already. kaya hindi pa kasama. but i bet it will be near the radisson hotel.
venntro February 23rd, 2009, 01:29 AM The lamp posts are plain looking although it really serves its purpose. I just hope that in the pursuit of being world class, they also try tinkering on the design of basic utilities such as lamp posts and make it more modern looking.
philip_v February 23rd, 2009, 09:16 AM But please not like the lamp posts around Manila. I'd rather prefer these plain and boring ones.

c0kelitr0 February 24th, 2009, 09:20 AM what i really love about MOA is it's greaaaattttttt range of food choices. there are just so many food establishments, talagang hindi nakakadisappoint, you can always try something new every time you visit MOA.
renell February 24th, 2009, 02:09 PM I didn't notice Star City/Boom na Boom's ferris wheel. You know something like that would do wonders to the CCP Complex, something like a London Eye/Singapore Flyer. The Filipino Paris Will ;)
stanleymalls February 24th, 2009, 03:43 PM ^^ Nice one! :okay:
MoA Complex is way better than CCP now, IMHO.
CCP Complex badly needs a re-integration and bring back its glory days.

Manila Times (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/march/01/yehey/property/20090301prop1.html)
Meeting the demands of one’s career and family can be truly difficult for busy professionals who spend a good deal of their day at the office—practically leaving little time to run important errands, go shopping, exercise or simply indulge in leisurely activities with friends and loved ones.
SM Investments Corp. (SMIC) is about to change all that with its fusion of work, relaxation and convenience.
This business-lifestyle synergy is part of the design for the OneE-comCenter, a ten-story building equipped with cutting-edge design and latest facilities for the modern office.
Discussing the concept behind OneE-comCenter, Josefino Lucas, executive vice president for Real Property of SMIC reveals that “The OneE-comCenter adheres to today’s trend of having the workplace closely associated with lifestyle centers. This is meant to allow our new generation of employees to concentrate on their work and still go about their usual lifestyles without wasting so much time on travel.”
OneE-comCenter employees get the whole package of real living. Amenities incorporated in the building range from basketball, badminton courts, coffee shops and restaurants It is also connected to the third-largest mall in the world, the SM Mall of Asia via a pedestrian bridge way and is strategically located near the San Miguel by the Bay, an outdoor strip housing dining and entertainment establishments.
Joann Hizon, vice president for Human Resources at EXL Services of OneE-com, shares some of the perks of working near the world’s third largest mall. “The benefits of working beside the SM Mall of Asia are both personal and professional. Our prospective clients, business partners and job applicants are impressed when we tell them that we are beside the mall. It becomes easy for us to entertain our clients and guests. Giving directions to people who wish to visit us is an cinch.”
On the other hand, APL (American President Lines) director for operations and network Ces Bitare, who holds office at the 9th floor also shares: “Working right next to the SM Mall of Asia offers a whole new range of experiences for our staff— there’s variety of eating places to choose from. One does not have to drive far to pick up some goodies on the way home and the area livens up at night—which makes for a good place for people to unwind after a hard day’s work.”
When it comes to the other conveniences given by OneE-comCenter, Hizon shares: “I’m also a member of Fitness First so it was a pleasant surprise to find out that they had a branch in the same building as my office. We’re also able to patronize coffee shops and convenient stores, all within easy reach for both our employees and guests.”
Professionals can also now enjoy a more dynamic lifestyle. “The physical working environment has an effect on people’s behavior, attitude, and the ability to perform their job well. Working at OneE-com seems to have energized our people, who have become more vibrant and enthusiastic. The location has improved employees’ lifestyles by allowing them to maximize after-office hours, by cutting down their travel time to do their groceries and last minute shopping,” Bitare adds.

The location has improved employees’ lifestyles by allowing them to maximize after-office hours, by cutting down their travel time to do their groceries and last minute shopping,” Bitare adds.

philip_v March 1st, 2009, 02:53 AM Btw, if you haven't checked out the website of MoA, the link is http://www.smmallofasia.com
IMO, it's the "most helpful" website for a Philippine Mall. :)
I totally agree. Henry Sy is definitely intent on making Mall of Asia a world-class destination.
Also, I just love how they keep MoA's floors so shiny! Kudos. :master:

^^ Even with glass clad buildings near a large body of salt water, there's really a need to clean the facades regularly because of the rusting effect of salt water.

the background shot of manila bay is the million dollar asset not MoA..its what makes a city or destroys it..luckily we have been able to reclaim and try again..and this time it worked because single or few owners of the land and not government owned...manila bay should be full of watercraft ..from sails to ferries just traversing...such an underutilised natural asset which has not been maximised because of our little faith in the safety of recreational watercraft..basically its shockingly true..there will be great credibility though in the safety component since SM will be a major operator of the vessels....imagine going for a 2 hour harbour cruise for no other reason than its available and safe....this has not been available before since the days of the motorco or double decker buses on roxas blvd.... maybe now pinoys wont just stay at home on sundays and sleep all afternoon.

i agree with you on that one. We had a lot of traffic in the roads - with a population of 12 million it's inevitable, and light and medium rail takes years to develop. The government should consider using the water as an expanded means of transportation.
Though having said that Manila Bay does still have tides so you will need a pretty sturdy ship - I've taken the Sydney ferry in the harbour numerous times and unless it's a fine sunny day crashing the waves isn't the best feeling around.

Yup, most likely migratory birds. Cute lang sila sa picture, pero mas okay pa rin yung local birds because the Philippines is still bird-flu free. Kaya nga dito sa Pinas, okay kumain ng manok, or in a wider sense... dito sa Pilipinas ay okay kumain ng bird! :okay: :naughty: :jk: ...dahil walang bird flu :D

^^ Awesome! This has to be one of the better pictures I have seen in SSC. Kudos to Jose Mari.
sloanesquare March 31st, 2009, 04:24 AM the MRT and LRT cars are very well maintained so I have no problems that these cannot be maintained as well. anything to do with underground is problematic....street level but above water line is acceptable to me...but a link is necessary...Megaworld has recognised this with its projects from Eastwood to Newport and should be commended for its shuttle service...it is easy to forget that part of Manila Hotel/Malate Church/Luneta because of lack of accessibility.
When I would visit Venice, I would just buy a weekend pass for the Vaporetto and just keep getting in and out because 1) the unlimited pass was available and 2) the boat was available. and that was excellent recreation and sightseeing. Thats what I intend to do from MoA to Hamilo Cove when completed. My own version of a harbour cruise..AND ENJOY THE VIEWS AS ABOVE IN WATER COOLED COMFORT...even if it were 35 degrees on land.
in_a_rush March 31st, 2009, 01:41 PM ^^there are already hop in hop off jeepneys around manila with pit stops on the different attractions such as intramuros, luneta, moa etc. but the problem is its too expensive! 500pesos- unlimited ride. only until 5pm pa. considering the traffic in metro manila, hindi mo masusulit!
i hope we can have this in manila too..

Phinma’s hospitality arm looking for sites for 16 more hotels
THE PHINMA GROUP is on the lookout for sites on which to build branches of Microtel Inns & Suites, noting that demand for budget hotels remains high.
The local holder of the Microtel Inns & Suite franchise wants to open 16 more branches within the next two years. — www.microtelphilippines.com
In an interview, Jose Mari R. del Rosario, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Phinma unit Microtel Inns & Suite Pilipinas, Inc., said the company wants to open at least 16 more in two years. Among the sites the company being considered are the cities of Dagupan, Angeles, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, and Naga.
"We are still cautious but we remain confident on domestic tourism," Mr. del Rosario said.
Data from the Tourism department show that "economic" hotels have bucked declining occupancy rates among the four hotel categories in Metro Manila, going up by half a percentage point to 62.3% last year.
In contrast, the average occupancy rate for de luxe hotels went down to 70.1% from 73.8% in 2007. The occupancy rate of first-class hotels tumbled to 69% last year from 75.9% the previous year. For standard hotels, the rate slipped to 70.8% last year from the 71.8% in 2007.
"This is proof that we are in the right market. We only charge $35 to $40 per night," said Ramon R. del Rosario, Jr., president and CEO of Philippine Investment Management, Inc. or Phinma.
Microtel’s Jose Mari R. del Rosario said the total project cost for each hotel is around P85 million or P1.8 million per room.
It takes around 10 months to complete a Microtel, he said.
The company already has nine branches with the opening of a hotel in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, the Phinma hospitality arm’s first beachfront hotel.
Mr. del Rosario said construction has begun for the 10th Microtel in the country, which will be in the SM Mall of Asia complex. This will be the first Microtel in Metro Manila.
Microtel has branches in Baguio, Sto. Tomas in Batangas, Boracay, Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija, General Trias in Cavite, Davao, Mactan in Cebu, and Luisita in Tarlac.
Except for Mactan and the future hotel at the SM Mall of Asia complex designed for 160 and 150 rooms, respectively, most Microtels branches have an average of 50 to 60 rooms.
"Baguio and Batangas have a 90% occupancy rate while Tarlac and Cavite are a bit weaker," Mr. del Rosario said.
All Microtels in the country are managed by the Phinma group’s Microtel Development Corp. The company is the franchise holder of the Atlanta-based Microtel Inns & Suites hotel chain.
Brisk business in the hotel segment has prompted the Gokongweis’ Robinsons Land Corp. to venture into economic hotels. It plans to target businessmen and backpackers. — Kristine Jane R. Liu

flip2_0 April 26th, 2009, 01:56 AM TwoE-comCenter at Mall of Asia Complex
April 25, 2009, 2:33pm
SM Land, the property arm of Filipino conglomerate SM Investments Corporation (SMIC), recently introduced another world-class development within the 67-hectare Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City with the unveiling of the TwoE-com Center office building.
Barely two years after One E-com Center was operationalized, Two E-com Center breaks ground as the second of four E-comCenters to rise in the complex. Estimated for completion in 2011, the P2-billion project will similarly cater to the burgeoning business process outsourcing (BPO) and technology-based industries in the country.
The structure covers a total floor area of 99,600 square meters. sloanesquare April 27th, 2009, 12:50 PM Manila-Bataan ferry resumes service May 2
THE reopening of the Manila-Bataan ferry service next month will boost inter-island trade, cut travel time and transport costs and spur domestic tourism, an official said yesterday.
Metrostar Ferry Inc. is serving the Orion port-Manila Bay route because its constituents believe it is the most convenient way to travel between Bataan and Manila, according to Bataan Rep. Abet Garcia.
Passengers will be charged P140 per trip, with the ferry leaving Mall of Asia for Bataan at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and leaving Bataan for Manila at 7 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
“The trip is estimated to last one hour and thirty minutes compared with at least three hours by car or bus,” Garcia said, adding he was urging the Philippine Ports Authority to speed up issuing a permit to Metrostar for the route.
The establishment of a ferry service for vehicles between the two points would produce even more dramatic results, he said.
Four ferry operators used to serve Orion, but they stopped due to the high cost of fuel, Garcia said.
MetroStar has been ferrying travelers to Cavite from the Mall of Asia in Pasay City and back for almost two years—a trip that takes only 40 minutes compared
with two hours by land. It has also been offering leisure cruises of Manila Bay.
“The company has lined up a series of expansion programs starting this year, including interconnecting with the Pasig River Ferry and plying the route emanating from the terminal to Orion, Bataan,” Metrostar president Restie Bicomong had said earlier. Cecille Garcia
crappypants April 27th, 2009, 06:07 PM any nice beaches or worthy attractions in Bataan?
the only problem is the last trip heading back to Manila leaves at 3pm. so you don't have much time if you want to make it a day trip to Bataan. If there are enough worthy attractions you might have to stay overnight. opportunities for business persons to build small inns?

MANILA, Philippines – SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), the investment holding firm of the family of retail tycoon Henry Sy, is in talks with a foreign entity to operate the planned gaming facilities within the Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City.
SMIC executive vice-president and chief finance officer Jose T. Sio said they expect to conclude negotiations with the foreign proponent before the end of the year.
In December, SMIC obtained a provisional license from state casino franchise firm Philippine Amusement & Gaming Corp. (Pagcor), allowing it to develop a world-class entertainment and gaming hub on a 60-hectare property of its second biggest mall.
Sio said the casino will just comprise a small portion of the proposed world-class complex, pointing out that SMIC will only be providing the entertainment facilities.
Earlier reports said SMIC and Asia Pacific Gaming of Australia and a US-based casino operator held exploratory talks for a possible partnership.
Sio said the project will be undertaken by another unit of SMIC, with the first phase of development consisting of several hotels by leading international hotel chains like Raddisson and the upscale Regent brands.
High-end retail shops, a theater for the performing arts, a sports arena, residential condominium buildings, and a ferry terminal that will directly link the Mall of Asia with SMIC’s Hamilo Coast in Nasugbu, Batangas are also in the pipeline.
Aside from the high-end hotels, Sio said the SM group would put up SM-branded inns to cater to customers on a limited budget.
To pave the way for the development of the world-class complex, the SM group will tear down its one-level corporate headquarters in front of the Mall of Asia and move its offices to the Two-Ecom building currently under construction.

Employees working at the OneE-comCenter troop back to their offices after the routine inspection of the Pasay City Fire Department during the building’s fire drill.
MANILA, Philippines - As part of a continuing effort to be proactive when it comes to the safety of its employee force and building tenants, clients, the SM Group of Companies recently spearheaded a fire drill at the OneE-comCenter. Lending all-out support was the Pasay City Fire Department, which conducted a routine inspection as part of the exercise.
While serving as a very useful training for building occupants to be fire wise, the fire drill drew attention to SM OneE-comCenter’s compliance with contemporary building and fire codes. “The OneE-comCenter has been designed to provide today’s businesses with all the modern amenities,” Jess Lucas, executive vice president of Shoemart, Inc.’s commercial properties group said. That includes upholding fire safety and security standards.
The emergency preparedness exercise provided the opportunity for building occupants to practice how to work together in case of fire. Such endeavor seeks to enhance skills in mobilization, communication and response, and the ability to account for all personnel within the affected premises.
Companies that participated in the fire drill included SM Investments Corporation, Shoemart, Inc., SM Residences, Highlands Prime, Inc., and the initial batch of OneE-comCenter tenants, including EXL Service Phil., Inc., American President Lines (APL), McDonald’s, Fitness First, Affiliated Computer Systems (ACS), CW Lifestyle Bistro Café, Bacolod Chicken Inasal, HSBC, Blenz Coffee, Starbucks, and Banco de Oro.
Located within the SM Group’s Mall of Asia Complex, the 105,857-square meter OneE-comCenter is a 10-storey building which has become home to contact centers, business process outsourcing (BPO) companies, and reputable retail players.
The OneE-comCenter is one of the flagship projects of the SM Group, which is commemorating its 50th anniversary with a series of events celebrating the company’s milestones, fittingly dubbed “50 years of Serving Millions.”

JulZ May 4th, 2009, 02:49 PM Nido Fortified recently partnered with the SM Science Discovery Center at the SM Mall of Asia to promote applied science learning in the Philippines.
Joseph Eugene David, business executive manager of Nestlé Philippines Inc.’s Dairy, Health and Nutrition Solutions Business Unit, said, “No country can progress without scientific advancements and we at Nestlé value the importance of nurturing a child’s passion to learn at an early age.”
“We want to show everyone that learning science can be easy and even magical, especially when kids learn by exploration and interaction. Hopefully, our efforts will inspire more Filipino children to fall in love with science,” David added.
Effective last April 17, the SM Science Discovery Center has been called the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center.
Present during the contract signing were Nestlé Philippines executives Susana Aquino, Ellen Isturis, Wennifer Ty, Ruth Novales, Jedessa Leyte, Husain Haykal, and lawyers Aileen Cero and Cashmer Dirampaten.
SM Prime Holdings was represented by Dexter Deyto, SAVP for operations, SM Family Entertainment Center Inc.; Raymund Maclang, Joaquin San Agustin, Dennis Cruz, Arturo Carballo, Crystalauren Rivera-Mena, Cherrie de la Cruz, and Ria Damian.
“Learning doesn’t only take place in the classroom. To nurture a child’s curiosity, you can expose him to a safe, healthy, stimulating environment so that he can explore freely and experience the world around him. The Science Discovery Center is the perfect place for moms to bond and learn with their kids,” David said.
The Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center is the first technology-based science theme park in the Philippines.
The 3,000-square-meter facility consists of nine walk-through galleries that include a two-level kinetic Time Capsule, green screen technology, the latest PC-based and virtual games and software, a showcase of the latest technologies in different modes of transport, and a Natural Science Center, among its many features. It also houses the most advanced 360-degree dome screen Digistar Planetarium in the country.
Since it is also interactive, the Science Discovery Center helps children better understand and learn more about their own bodies, the natural world, and the universe.
“We laud Nido Fortified for taking on this advocacy,” Deyto said. “It would be a big help in the field of science learning in the country.”
JulZ May 4th, 2009, 02:55 PM TwoE-comCenter breaks ground at Mall of Asia Complex
Updated May 04, 2009 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines - SM Land, the property arm of Filipino conglomerate SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), recently introduced another world-class development within the 67-hectare Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City with the unveiling of the TwoE-comCenter office building.
Barely two years after OneE-comCenter was operationalized, TwoE-comCenter breaks ground as the second of four E-comCenters to rise in the complex. Estimated for completion in 2011, the P2-billion project will similarly cater to the burgeoning business process outsourcing (BPO) and technology-based industries in the country.
The structure covers a total floor area of 99,600 square meters. It is 15 storeys high, made up of two 11-storey towers that are connected on top and built on a four-level podium that features a reception lobby, commercial and retail areas, spacious indoor parking slots, and a multi-use deck and sky garden. TwoE-comCenter will be further linked via bridgeways to OneE-comCenter and to the Mall of Asia. This modern and iconic architectural design was conceptualized by Miami-based firm Arquitectonica.
The building’s modern and adaptive design, features, and functionality aim to provide future tenants and office workers the distinct, holistic work environment envisioned to grow in the Mall of Asia Complex as the business and entertainment hub of the future. TwoE-comCenter is strategically located near famous landmarks of the complex such as the SM Mall of Asia, the fourth largest mall in the world; SMX Convention Center, the country’s largest exposition and trade center; and San Miguel by the Bay, an outdoor strip of choice restaurants.
Soon, the Mall of Asia Complex will also be home to the Radisson Hotel Manila Bay, Microtel Inns & Suites, a gaming and entertainment center, and a ferry terminal which will primarily serve as a transport route from the complex to Hamilo Coast, SM Land’s premier leisure residential development in Nasugbu, Batangas. As TwoE-comCenter project head and SMIC executive vice president Jess Lucas shared during the groundbreaking ceremony, the complex will be an “entertainment business district within the city that provides complete avenues to live, play, and work.”

jaygold06 May 12th, 2009, 04:33 AM Any photos, news or updates of the Microtel hotel near the church at MOA complex? I havent been there for a while.
jaygold06 May 12th, 2009, 04:53 AM Microtel to Break Ground in BayCentral
MICROTEL DEVELOPMENT Corp., will start construction of its 150-room Microtel Inns & Suites in the 60-hectare SM BayCentral in Pasay City in December, with the hospitality arm of the Phinma Group investing around P240 million.
The new hotel will be near the SMX Convention Center and the SM Mall of Asia, Microtel and SM officials said.
Henry Sy-led holding company SM Investments Corp. said in a disclosure yesterday an agreement has been signed between Shoemart, Inc. and Microtel Development.
In a telephone interview, Jose Mari del Rosario, president of Microtel Development, said P240 million will be used to construct the hotel, 20% of which will come from loans and the rest from equity infusion.
"There will be a three-way investment by Microtel Development, a fund handled by BPI Capital Corp., and existing franchisee Hernandez family of the Victory Liner," he told BusinessWorld.
The project will be completed in 10 months.
Present at the recent signing of the memorandum of Agreement between SHOEMART, Inc. and Microtel Development Corporation were (L-R): Jess Lucas, Executive Vice President, SM Investments Corporation, SHOEMART Inc.; Jose Mari Del Rosario, President, Microtel Development Corporation; and Dennis Marcelino, Chief Financial Officer, Microtel Development Corporation.
Mr. del Rosario said Microtel’s plans fit into the developments being undertaken by the Sy group, such as corporate headquarters for conglomerates, office and residential clusters, a coliseum for sporting events and entertainment shows, as well as a ferry terminal.
"It is a very good match especially with the plans of the SM Group to build a coliseum much bigger than Araneta Coliseum. It [will] generate demand for hotels. It is quite a substantial investment," he said.
The hotel will be strategically located near the SMX Convention Center and the SM Mall of Asia.
SM BayCentral is being packaged as Metro Manila’s premier business and tourism district. SM BayCentral covers 60 hectares of prime reclaimed land along the coast of Manila Bay, offering choice locations for business, tourism, retail and leisure projects, SM Investments said. The central attraction of the area is the SM Mall of Asia, the SM group’s biggest shopping mall.
Present at the signing of the memorandum of agreement were Jess Lucas, executive vice president of SM Investments; Merril Yu, senior vice-president of SM Investments; Henry Sy, Jr., director of Shoemart, Inc.; Mr. Del Rosario, and Dennis Marcelino, chief financial officer of Microtel Development.
Corazon P. Guidote, SM Investments vice-president for investor relations, said: "We are just leasing the land to Microtel. The investment will be made directly by Microtel."
The Philippine Microtel group also holds the master franchise for Hawthorn Suites, an upscale extended stay hotel chain under Global Hyatt. Its sister company, Paramount Hotels & Facilities Management Co., manages other independent properties.
Ms. Guidote earlier said the master plan of the business park calls for four hotels with the view of the Manila Bay sunset.
Asian hotel chain Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific has agreed to manage the hotels of SM Investments on the SM BayCity in Pasay.
Carlson will develop and manage a 350-room property in SM BayCity, which is envisioned to be the country’s premier business and tourism district by the Manila Bay.
Carlson operates five hotel brands in Asia-Pacific: Regent Hotels & Resorts, Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson and Park Inn.
SM BayCentral will soon be Metro Manila’s premier business and tourism district and is home to the SM Mall of Asia. SM BayCentral has a total land area of 60 hectares of prime land along the coast of scenic Manila Bay, offering locations for business, tourism, retail and leisure projects.

Device uses waves to “print” on water surface (http://www.pinktentacle.com/2006/07/device-uses-waves-to-print-on-water-surface/)
AMOEBA: a device which writes on water
Researchers from a Japanese research centre, Akishima Laboratory, built a strange device which uses controlled waves moving up and down to generate letters on water surface. The device is called AMOEBA (Advanced Multiple Organized Experimental Basin).
In case you are curious to know how it works, Pink Tentacle (http://www.pinktentacle.com/2006/07/device-uses-waves-to-print-on-water-surface/) has a more detailed review of this strange and expensive toy.
Akishima Laboratories expects the technology to be incorporated into decorative fountains, in combination with sound and light effects. It can make a wonderful decoration for hotels or water parks.
When I first saw it (http://www.seihin-world.com/s/2006/08/01_0034.php), my first thought was that it’s useless; I had no clue what could be the functionality of such a machine.
Then a few ideas came to my mind, regarding the possible use of AMOEBA:
- Conversation with aliens

Maxxclip May 13th, 2009, 09:47 AM i dont know kung na-post na 'to dito...anyway I got this from PinoyBusiness.org (http://pinoybusiness.org/)
MOA gaming facilites exploratory talks goes underway
SM Investments Corp. (SMIC) is currently having talks with some foreign companies to operate the planned gaming facilities within the Mall of Asia complex in Pasig City.
Reports said SMIC, Asia Pacific Gaming of Australia, and a US-based casino operator held exploratory talks for a possible partnership in the proposed gaming facility. Jose T. Sio, SMIC executive vice-president and chief finance officer said that they expect to close the negotiations with the foreign proponent before the year ends.
SMIC acquired in December last year, a provisional license from the government’s casino franchise firm, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR). This license allows SMIC to develop a world-class entertainment and gaming center on the 60 hectare property of its second biggest mall.
Sio stated that the casino will just take up a small portion of the proposed world-class complex, adding that SMIC will only be providing the entertainment facilities.
According to Sio, the project will be undertaken by another unit of SMIC. The first phase of the development will be consisting of several hotels by known international hotel chains like Raddisson and the upscale Regent brands.
Also included in the project are residential condominium building, high-end retail shops, a sports arena, a ferry terminal that will directly link up the Mall of Asia with SMIC’s Hamilo Coast in Nasugbu, Batangas and a theater for the performing arts.
Sio also added that aside from the high-end hotels, the SM group will be putting up their own SM-branded hotels for them to cater to customers on a limited budget.
The SM group will be demolishing its one-level corporate headquarter located in front of the Mall of Asia to pave the way for the development of the world-class complex. They will then relocate their offices to the Two-Ecom building which is currently under construction.

For this G-top™ Arquitectonica GEO proposes to design an oasis in the sky. A lush planted landscape that will become a sanctuary of calm and beauty covering approximately 19000 square meters of roofscape. The strong aroma of the carefully chosen plant palette will overtake the senses once the visitor ventures into this contemporary oasis in the sky.
The design of the deck proposes a buffer from the city creating an iconic and unique inner space; in it five different gardens are proposed offering places for relaxation, arts, and activities for children. The free-form design will contrast with the rigid geometry of the surrounding urban landscape and will impose nature into a highly artificial environment. A covered path linking all areas will provide shade and protection from the rain.
Lush landscape with subtle grade changes will provide exciting and refreshing spaces that support an active retail and facilities’ structure. The main ‘plaza’ and ‘The Great Lawn’ embrace the convention center across and serve as an outdoor receiving area for the ballrooms. The performance stage / outdoor amphitheater with projection screens, and the synthetic lawn are all considered rich design opportunities that will enhance the public’s experience and enjoyment and will combine natural (park) and built materials in a way that frames the architecture. Water, green textures, tile, wood and contemporary materials will provide a cool sensory experience that will encourage activity and invite pedestrians from street level.

Based on the rendering, I see that the garden is average looking but its a nice dev't for Bay City, If this ever pushes through (wala pa kasing press release ang SM tungkol dito sa Garden, sa Arena component lang) 2 sm developments will have sky gardens. SM North SkyGarden at 34,000 sq.m & SM Arena Garden at 19,000 sq.m. :)

SM North SkyGarden Plan

^^ Maraming out of necessity na dinadamay ang SM North to spark another word-war. You can admire something na di binabanggit ang ibang proyekto. It's sad that may "crab" mentality talaga, kailangan pa talaga may i-compare na iba just to make their favored project look better...:ohno:
For the record skygarden is bigger at 34,000 sq. m. kaya mas maraming in-garden features doon. So in that aspect di talaga ito magiging skygarden. This looks like any other garden na nasa rectangular plan. I don't see anything distinct or special like maybe a waterfalls.
Waldenstrom May 17th, 2009, 08:01 AM ^ no. i mean sana maganda yung garden kahit simple. sana maganda ang kalabasan.

You're too defensive and sensitive. Natural lang na icompare ang MoA at SM N-EDSA dahil magkapatid lang sila, developed by one and the same.

Uh oh here we go again. It's just amazing. I'm just amazed on how you would really do anything just to really prove that your 'Beautiful' -meh skygarden is better even though they're from the same architect not to mention the same mother company and developer. It's just ridiculous

As a matter of fact, they are Chinese-Filipinos (Filipino citizens with Chinese ancestry, like Fil-Ams - Americans with Filipino ancestries). Anyway, they also promoted progress in the country and employ thousands, if not millions, of Filipinos. So I guess that even things out.

I passed by SkyGarden awhile ago and they are already installing art-deco sculptures along the sky-garden, not what you expect any "typical" SM to do, Padi's point is still the only open restaurant pero puno sya at maraming businessman na nag dine doon so better go to SM North before any assumptions, and see SM North meets the expectations of the people that "matter"

The World Pyro Olympics committee is still on the process of finalizing team selection and schedule of the event. This is due to the early on set of Rainy season.
Due to last years incident of typhoon cosme on our fireworks barges being swept to the shore, we are considering the pyromusical to be held on land this year.
We will update you for any recent development.
Thank you.
La Mancha will be performing this year in the ZAGREB CROATIA FIREWORKS FESTIVAL. (They are also experiencing same situation with us.) We got invited to perform our pyromusical on the 19 of June. But it may not push through due to some financial reason from the Croatia Fireworks committee. But, we are still hoping for the best.

actually kaya mas prefered today ang MoA is because of its accessibility and convenience... and mas intimate sa MoA... BGC is simply too big. when rihanna came yung 1000 worth na tix had the same view of the 300 peso tix at the davids. do the math for the 2000 peso tix at the davids compared to rihanna. :D MoA has the capacity to handle up to 100,000 commuter peeps in one hour... try doing that at BGC.
and maybe the promoters got turned off with the city requirement to name the event "Live in Taguig" w/c i think is so selfish. Ang jologs kaya! (no offense to taguig) but really... LIVE IN TAGUIG?! it's confusing when foreign media outlets pick up the event. nobody knows taguig?! they prolly dont even know how to pronounce it. only Manila and Cebu are worthy venue tags in the Philippines when you really want to promote big concerts because people around Asia and the world associate to it better than Taguig. :D

I tink that happened last year during alisha keys' concert. Umulang kaya the concert was promptly transferred inside the smx. Becoz of no proper setup of sound system medyo pangit yung concert
sloanesquare May 27th, 2009, 11:16 AM ^^ agree. it has become a direct competitor of BGC Grounds for outdoor concerts. i think both are ok. at least monoblock chairs were provided. most of patrons prefer standing tho.
BGC is a good location since it allows crowd dispersion faster with many arterial roads.
but MoA is even better since it gets the cooling sea breezes..except can you imagine 5000 cars all trying to get out via Edsa towards taft....you might even make the sunrise with the traffic...
MRT extension to MoA....thats what they do at most sporting venues..train station at your doorstep...cant see why its so unacceptable here
stanleymalls May 30th, 2009, 08:32 AM ^^ Ayaw nila siguro masira ang view mo ng MoA from EDSA. :D
philip_v May 31st, 2009, 05:23 AM ^^^ They could always put the trains on the ground, or even use a subway or just an underground tunnel if they can. Or reroute the train so that its terminal would not be in front of MoA but on either of its side.
stanleymalls May 31st, 2009, 08:55 PM ^^ True. Gawin ba namang at grade?! :wtf:
