SMIC capital-raising to fund hotel, convention centers (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/june/01/yehey/business/20090601bus8.html)
Manila Times (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/june/01/yehey/business/20090601bus8.html)

SM Investments Corp. (SMIC) plans to spend billions of pesos over the next four years to fund the constructions of hotels and convention centers.

Documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) showed that SMIC allotted P9.9 billion from 2009 to 2012. Of the total amount, P2.5 billion will fund the E-Com Building at the Mall of Asia Complex; P400 million, the SMX Convention Center in Cebu; P800 million, SMX Convention Center-Mall of Asia expansion; P400 million, Pico de Loro Hotel; P1.6 billion, SM Cebu Hotel Radisson; P1.4 billion, Hotel in Mall of Asia; P1.6 billion, Arena Coliseum in Mall of Asia; P700 million, SM Inn Travellers Hotel; and P500 million, land acquisition.

The money will come from the P10 billion proceeds of a five- and seven-year fixed-rate domestic bond offering, half of which would be raised in case of oversubscription.

“In the event that the oversubscription option is not exercised or the resulting net proceeds of the issue are substantially less than the foregoing maximum amount required, these projects will be scaled down until such time that the company is able to obtain the necessary funding,” SMIC said.

Without the oversubscription, SMIC can only fund the E-Com Building, SMX Convention Center in Mall of Asia expansion and SM Cebu Hotel Radisson.

The bonds have a minimum investment value of P20,000 per transaction. They will be jointly underwritten by BDO Capital & Investment Corp., BPI Capital Corp., China Banking Corp., Union Bank of the Phils. and RCBC Capital Corp.

SMIC executives will conduct a road show on June 1 to 3 in Manila, Davao and Cebu.

The bonds will be made available nationwide through the marketing networks of the underwriters.

SMIC’s first-quarter profit grew by 13 percent to P4.2 billion from the P3.7 billion in the same period last year.

Buoyed by retail sales that rose 10.4 percent to P23.7 billion, SMIC’s consolidated revenues increased by 11 percent to P35.2 billion year-on-year.

With the high foot traffic in its malls, the SM group’s rental revenues improved by 22 percent to P3.8 billion. Real estate sales enjoyed a 91-percent surge to P1.6-billion from a year ago.

Yes they did and it is envisioned to be at grade since the area of the bay is reclaimed, station at stilts would require very very deep diggings. Also, another problem why it stopped at Taft is the diversion of traffic, which is mind boggling at the time.

kung ngaun palang n mall, convention, and concert venue ang meron, sobra n ang traffic. panu p kaya kung may sport complex n dyn. i do go to MoA but im making sure na walang event n nagaganap para mabilis ang traffice. imagine kung may event masmabilis pang maglakad papunta at palayo ng MOA.

kahit n may line ang MRT, it is still not enough to cater the thousand or even millions of people there. sa dami b naman ng tao. even ang roads magiging kulang, imagine one road lng going to and fro from MOA.

ill make some calculations, kasi isa toh sa mga studies na gagawin ko, few comments and help sa mga figure(magnitude, or dami ng vehicle/tao) will be a much help.

ang naging problem kasi ng MRT is sa MAKATI area, residence there don't want the elevated MRT mawawalan daw sila ng privacy(which is very confusing kasi, bkit sa edsa sila bumili ng lupa, pwede nman sa probinsya). anyways, funds from other phase of MRT was diverted to makati phase to cope up with the excavation for MRT line there kaya yun, naging above ground ang ibang location ng MRT. kaya simikip ang traffic sa pasay area.

at kung lalagyan man ng MRT line ang MOA, its better to leave it above ground. there are many reasons why. kayo muna magsabi bago ang profesional opinion ko. it would be also base sa pag-aaral n gagawin ko. (heheh)

not just after the show, bago k palng pumunta trafic na. any ways, have you studied the date, its june 11, walang pasok sa susunod n araw. (pwera n lng kung call-center agent ka).

kung pupunta k man here are my suggestion:
1) pumunta ng maaga.
2) madsama ng kaibigan.
3) kung may ride. 2 choices, malapit sa exit ng parking lot( para mabilis makalabas) or malapit sa entrance/exit ng pantaong daan (para mabilis makapasok sa sasakyan) both ways, madaling makakaexit.

haha. Even if you go there early and with a car, most likely, you'll still be stuck in traffic  I think it is best to walk to EDSA/Baclaran and ride a bus.

I can't see what's confusing here. In their posh subdivisions, they can ride the bike, play on the streets, walk their dogs safely, with the comfort of being minutes away from CBDs and shopping centers. Their subdivisions also have high walls with barbed wires and tall trees that act as barriers to give them their privacy.

ok, cge taken n yung village, pero bkit some of them would not like the elevated MRT. i have seen the plans bago napalitan yung design. its a nightmare para sa mga engineers yun. kasi from elevated design which is a bit cheaper. kaya nga yung pasay area nging above ground n lng yung MRT.

That's one job they will do forever unfortunately because of the material and the nature of the place, windy, polluted and wet all year.

An ocean of inspiration for a unique establishment (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/aug/09/yehey/property/20090809prop1.html)
Manila Times (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2009/aug/09/yehey/property/20090809prop1.html)

The latest and hippest place to rise in the Mall of Asia complex in Manila is shaping up as a fitting tribute to modern Philippine architecture.

Oceana, the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA, Manila) Restaurant School and Events Place, has emerged as a stunning bayside attraction as envisioned by architects Cathy Saldaña and Alan Casas of PDP Architects.

“Events managers have been attracted to this venue through Oceana’s outstanding architecture and interiors that provide a versatile setup for various affairs,” said Catherine Ong, who heads C3 Events Place, which is also under the Cravings Group.

This rich inspiration affords space that is bright and airy, with a predominantly white motif and a clean, streamlined look that exudes a day in the beach.

Accents on walls are reminiscent of patterns cut on ornate pastillas wrappers while the ceiling borrows the form of waves coming to shore. As a restaurant-cum-events place, functional and aesthetic lighting is achieved through elegant drop lights made of glass spheres that mimic bubbles blown from underwater.

PDP Architects also designed the furniture that is distinct to Oceana. To provide a contrast against the white and streamlined look of the restaurant, the tables have curved silhouettes and the upholstery of the chairs is in aqua.

“The magnificent view of the bay meanwhile is utilized as a natural backdrop that enhances the ambience, unveiled by a glass wall for a picturesque frame. This effect can be used to invoke a beach-themed reception minus the hassles of long drives, heat, and sand in one’s shoes,” explained Catherine.

The open kitchen concept of the restaurant also adds dimension to Oceana. Mosaic tiles are put on the walls, good lighting is employed and mirrors are hung from the ceilings and walls similar to laboratories of culinary schools.

“A show kitchen is located in the dining area, close to customers for them to witness that their food are freshly prepared,” she said.

The coming together of all these elements is touted to establish the Cravings Group’s presence in the City of Manila through Oceana, after the conglomerate of companies experienced success in various places around Quezon City and Metro Manila.

As the first restaurant-school of the country’s top culinary school, the Center for Culinary Arts, Manila, Oceana will house a restaurant school, open kitchen, dining area with a 60-pax capacity, and the events area all within an 800-sqm modern facility.Located at the plush hub of Seaside Boulevard and within the vibrant SM Mall of Asia complex, Oceana and its innovative concepts is set to raise the bar of culinary arts education in the country while offering a truly unique learning and dining experience.

isa pa, it's owned by Uniwide, not just by some small corporation.. if SM would buy the coastal mall, it'd better buy off the whole Uniwide company, para lahatan na..

Imagine if it's monorail, it would loop on the side of manila bay, mall of asia, and eventually, that of pagcor city, it would be priceless!

I went to the Mall of America in Minnesota last month. It's USA's largest mall pero walang sinabi compared to our MOA. Ang lamang nya lang ay mayroong amusement park na ala Enchanted Kingdom sa loob. Maybe MOA should consider developing something similar. The Mall of America is the number one tourist attraction in Minnesota. Next time I will try to go to the Edmonton Mall, the largest in North American to see how it compares with our local malls.

Belle Corp, SM reach deal on P14-billion gaming project (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=509117&publicationSubCategoryId=66)
By Zinnia B. Dela Peña (The Philippine Star (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=509117&publicationSubCategoryId=66)) Updated September 28, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Leisure developer and gaming firm Belle Corp. has struck a deal with the SM Group to take charge of the gaming component of a project within the Bagong Nayong Entertainment City that will require an investment of around P14 billion.

The SM Group is one of the major investors in the 120-hectare Bagong Nayong Pilipino Manila Bay Entertainment City, which is envisioned to become the country’s biggest tourism development and the government’s biggest job-generating project ever.

In a disclosure to the Philippine stock Exchange (PSE), Belle said its board has approved a proposal to acquire from SM Commercial Properties Inc. the entire outstanding capital stock of Premium Leisure and Amusement Inc. (PLAI), a member of a consortium of companies which was granted a provisional license by the Philippine Amusement & Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) to develop a world-class entertainment and gaming hub along Manila Bay.

The acquisition will be done through a share swap, subject to the approval of regulatory authorities.

Under the plan, Belle will be issuing 2.7 billion common shares in exchange for 100-percent ownership of PLAI.

“The final terms of the share swap, however, will be set forth in a memorandum of agreement to be executed by the parties,” Belle said.

With the acquisition, Belle will now be handling the gaming operations of the project such as the setting up of a casino and other gaming facilities while the SM Group will be providing the entertainment facilities which include hotels, a sports arena, museum, and an oceanarium.

The SM-Belle project is estimated to cost at least $1 billion. Included in the new entertainment complex is the already-developed section spanning about 300 hectares that contains the sprawling Mall of Asia complex.

Belle is open to partnering with foreign and local entities to help develop a reclaimed land along Manila Bay into a mini-Las Vegas.

“These arrangements shall be subject to Pagcor’s supervision in accordance with the terms of the provincial license,”

The Bagong Nayong Pilipino Entertainment City will house an integrated resort with a world-class theme park, casinos, residential areas, shopping malls, fine dining restaurants, and other leisure activities.

When completed, it is expected to boost tourist arrivals in the country to over three million annually, generate 450,000 new jobs and dramatically increase government earnings.

Aside from the SM group, other investors in the multi-billion dollar project are Malaysian conglomerate Genting Group and Alliance Global Group Inc. of tycoon Andrew Tan.

AGI has forged a joint venture with international cruise operator Star Cruises Ltd., an affiliate of the Genting Group, to build an integrated tourism zone on a 40-hectare property in the reclamation area.

The project will host an array of leisure and entertainment facilities, including a theme park, theaters, amusement and cultural centers, retail and gaming centers and hotels.

Sorry, but walang specific details given kanina sa meeting for each of these projects mentioned. Jazz, Light, West, and Grass Residences kc agenda kanina. But Im sure updates will come up every now and then. Will keep you posted, friend.

medyo lang naman :banana::banana::banana::banana:

thanks aziza, i know there will be plans for the complex but i did not expect it to be projected to be completed in the same time frame with that of SEA res.

can't find any renderings for the projects you posted though. well, radisson made it public, no more speculations on that.

Yeah, ayaw pa kami bigyan ng copy ng renderings and exact project details ng Jazz and Light Residences. But meron na. There was a presentation nga kanina. We could start offering it next week, once SMDC release official pricelist. But Im telling you, maganda yung render ng Light Residences, parang sculpture yung facade. Medyo matagal pa yung West Residences. Tatapusin muna other QC projects (Princeton, Berkeley, Grass).

I am wondering what happened to the One E-Com's Cyberzone area near the SM Mall of Asia, the ground floor were used by tenants such as CD-R King, Acer, Sony Vaio etc. , last time I was there they were all packing and no one gave a straight answer why

Aziza1121

^^I was in the area yesterday, and I asked the guard from the adjoining building. He said it's bec mahina daw takeup of sales ng stores. It's a possible reason. I bought gadgets 2x from Cyberzone and a handful lang talaga ang tao. Less foot traffic.

Sports Complex, YES. NU Bulldogs using it, POSSIBLE (Remember, the SY FAMILY bought 60% of the university June of last year) but I'm pretty sure it's NON-EXCLUSIVE.

(The Philippine Star (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=516531&publicationSubCategoryId=76)) Updated October 23, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - The newly opened OneE-comCenter building is fast rising as the country’s prime hub for businesses and commerce with major companies already taking advantage of its leading-edge design and facilities.

Located within the SM Group’s Mall of Asia Complex, the 105,857 square-meter OneE-comCenter is a 10-storey building designed for the modern office, including e-commerce, contact centers, business process outsourcing (BPO) companies, customer relationship management (CRM) services and specialized office uses.

Designed by international firm Arquitectonica and FSLim and Associates, OneE-comCenter features a 5th level courtyard and a typical office floor plate of 9,000 square meters with two and a half levels for parking with 600 slots. On the 11th floor is a sports and activity center consisting of a full-size basketball court and six badminton courts.

“The OneE-comCenter has been designed to provide today’s businesses with all the modern amenities required in their everyday operations,” said Josefino Lucas, executive vice president for commercial properties & resorts for SM Investments Corporation (SMIC). “This is part of SMIC’s overall plans of developing the Mall of Asia Complex into a foremost business and entertainment district in the Philippines.”

The OneE-comCenter is equipped with multi-telco redundancy entry points, 100% back-up power supply, and a zoned chiller system air-conditioning to meet the exacting needs of companies with 24/7 operations.

SM wins Retail Asia's 'Best of the Best' Award (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=518686&publicationSubCategoryId=66)
(The Philippine Star (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=518686&publicationSubCategoryId=66)) Updated October 30, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - The SM Retail Group received the Best of the Best Award during the 2009 Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500 Awards held recently at the COEX Intercontinental Hotel in Seoul, Korea, highlighting its leadership not only in the Philippines, but also in the Asia-Pacific region.

This was the second consecutive year that the SM Retail Group was named the Best of the Best, and the sixth year in a row that SM won the Gold Award as the Philippines’ Top Retailer. The SM Department Store also received the Country Award for the Philippines by the Federation of Asia Pacific Retailers Association during the closing ceremonies of the 14th Asia Pacific Retailers Convention and Exhibition also in Seoul, Korea.

Spearheaded by Retail Asia, the prestigious Singapore based magazine five years ago, the Top 500 ranks retailers in 14 Asia-Pacific economies on sales turnover and sales productivity. The ranking continues to highlight companies that have become the movers and shakers in the region’s retail sector.

Drawing from Euromonitor International’s research and analysis of the retail industry around the world, analysts in the 14 Asia-Pacific economies featured did research for the 2008 edition. The latter included Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam
.

The top three retailers from each of the countries in the Asia-Pacific region were awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards during the event; and the Best of the Best were selected from the Gold Awardees. Local retailers cited included Mercury Drug and Rustans, which won the Silver
and Bronze Awards, respectively, for the Philippines.

“The 2009, Retail Asia-Pacific Top 500 Ranking was a pleasant surprise in that the combined sales turnover of the region’s top 500 retailers has expanded instead of contracting in the wake of what has been widely regarded as the world’s gravest economic turmoil,” says Steven HL Goh, executive chairman of Retail Asia Publishing Pte Ltd. “Total sales turnover grew at a sterling double digit rate of 13.7 percent.”

While one of the reasons for this better-than-expected performance “is that the region’s retailers had not yet felt the full brunt of the economic storm,’ Goh emphasizes that “ this does not detract from the extent of the achievement of all those Asia-Pacific retailers who had made it to this year’s Top 500 ranking.”

“As a retailer, change is in our DNA,” says Teresita Sy-Coson, president of SM’s Non-Food Retail Group. “We always innovate and make everything new and exciting.”

After years of highlighting basic merchandise at very affordable prices, the SM Department Store, which lies at the heart of SM’s retail group, has returned to its fashion roots. Changes in the marketplace have prompted the company to become a fashion store once more.

The change is evident in the store’s merchandise, which has more mastige brands or designer fashion items, allowing customers to transform runway looks into reality. Renovations
of premiere stores and exciting design concepts in new stores have added a contemporary feel to the shopping experience. Innovative tie-ups, on the other hand, like those of Philippine Fashion Week, seem to be bringing SM closer to its goal.

At the same time, SM continues to be known for affordable lifestyle shopping for fashion, for the home, for gadgets, for children and babies. The store has the widest assortment of merchandise in the country, ranging from basic items for everyday needs to fashion items for discriminating shoppers, making it top of mind when people think of shopping.

SM, which has 36 branches nationwide, has become part of the lives of many Filipinos, not only because of its merchandise but also because of its one stop shopping experience and service. Customers also go to the store to pay their utility and bankcard bills, buy tickets for the hottest shows in town, and exchange foreign currency.

It also has a rewards program that offers perks and services to more than four million members. Prestige card members have a lounge in premium stores where they can relax in between shopping and get special services.

SMX Convention Center becomes a member ICCA
November 11, 2009, 5:33pm

The SMX Convention Center has been officially inducted as a new member of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the premier network for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. During the ICCA Members’ Networking Lunch at the 2009 Incentive Travel and Conventions, Meetings Asia (IT&CMA) held in Bangkok, Thailand, ICCA’s newly-appointed Asia Pacific Regional Director Noor Ahmad Hamid personally welcomed the SMX Convention Center, represented by Director of Sales Charry Casabar, to the association.

Founded in Paris in 1963 by a group of travel agents, ICCA today has expanded its reach to over 850 MICE companies and suppliers in 85 countries worldwide. It is the only association that brings together specialists in the different aspects of event handling and accommodation. According to Dexter Deyto, General Manager of the SMX Convention Center, the move to join ICCA is part of SMX’s efforts to offer the facility and the Philippines as a convention destination to the global market for high-profile international events.

natuloy yung 1st day of firing ng WPO pero dahil sa inulan at masamang panahon minabuti nilang ipostpone. Itutuloy daw this year ang alam ko nga january dapat pero wala pa ding bagong schedule na inilalabas:)

This competition will definitely be much better than the postponed world pyro olympics :D I heard that most of the competitors are gearing up for some very special shows ;) For the first time ever we will actually see variety in fireworks since each competitor brought their own fireworks products :D That's always good for competitions. more infos at reflectionsofearth.wordpress.com

people in Cebu are celebrating for their next "big project", something like MoA (although they don't want it to be called like ours, you know :)). Hope this will start a HEALTHY competition between Manila and Cebu flagships. Cebu is really making Manila run for it's money.

^^ah, the Science Discovery Center... i know it by that name...

yeah, i frequently see lots of students with their parents in that part of MoA... apparently ay nagiging favorite field trip destination na yan para sa mga bata...
