View Full Version : PASAY | Mall of Asia Complex thomasian December 7th, 2005, 05:31 AM Newly renovated pa nga ang SM Harrison eh. Saka dalawa lang silang Dept. Store within Harrison. Yung isa eh Rustan's. So pag inalis mo ang SM dun, wala nang pang-masang Dept. Store dun. pau_p1 December 7th, 2005, 06:07 AM wag naman.. maganda pa rin naman ang SM Harrison.. SM Makati is also only a department store and SM Quiapo.. Add SM Cubao.... SM Cubao, Makati, Quiapo, and Harrison are the first SM stores to open before the birth of SM Supermalls... Dvorak December 7th, 2005, 06:13 AM sorry SM cubao is what I meant (not makati) JudeD December 7th, 2005, 06:43 AM Malayo pa rin ang SM Harrison sa Mall of Asia ha. MOA is in Pasay, almost bordering Paranaque while Harrison is in Malate, Manila. It still takes around 15 minutes in light-medium traffic to get from one to the other, abot ng 30 minutes or more in heavy traffic. Harrison caters to the many hotel and condo residents living in the Malate area, who won't want to go all the way past the CCP complex just to shop. The proposed SM Vito Cruz is in Makati. That's nowhere near MOA. It's closest competition would actually be Shopwise Vito Cruz (just down the road!) and Cash and Carry and Makro near Buendia. thomasian December 7th, 2005, 06:58 AM ^^ yup, and SM Vito Cruz Hypermarket is more of a community-type of shopping center as compared to the super-regional MoA. Dvorak December 7th, 2005, 07:28 AM sana matuloy na yang SM Vitocruz. it'll be like 200 meters away from our place.. aranetacoliseum December 7th, 2005, 07:41 AM sana matuloy ang SMcaloocan! As far as I know, there are three SM Malls in Cavite. In Bacoor, Dasmarinyas and in Molino which opened last month. Dasmarinyas is the biggest of the three. slerz December 7th, 2005, 02:24 PM wow, si Sarah Geronimo... Can you imagine, in every SM mall that they build here eh may katapat na Robinsons? or kahit few kilometers away lng sa SM. how pathetic is that. Trying to out do one another.tsktsk...kaya nagkakatraffic dito sa Cavite dahil sa numerous malls na tinatayo. ashley12 December 7th, 2005, 02:37 PM ^^ I heard they're planning to have a branch sa Trece Cavite ata yun... but i dont know if they pursue the project. Francis20 December 9th, 2005, 09:35 AM 1st World Pyro Olympics will be held at the Esplanade behind SM MOA on Dec 26-30. There will be 9 countries to compete for the best fireworks display. 20 mins each ang fireworks. Two countries per night. Mauuna ata ang China at UK. Ticket is at Php100/day. See you there guys! Here's the acticle: The World Pyro Olympics The Centennial and Millenium Celebrations at Fort Bonifacio are the events that blaze bright in Filipinos minds when they think of the best fireworks display that they have seen in the Philippines. It seems that this year, Filipinos might experience a shift in their reference points as La Mancha Pyro Productions, the company that brought us the said events, is breaking new ground by organizing the 1st World Pyro Olympics, to be held for five consecutive days, from the 26th to the 30th of December. Representing their respective countries will be nine of the most prestigious pyrotechnic companies in the world, who will vie to earn the honor of becoming the Champion of the 1st World Pyro Olympics. Two participant-countries will perform twenty-minute classical pyrotechnic displays each evening. On the last night, La Mancha and the nine countries will collaborate for the World Pyro Olympics Fellowship of Fire display: a fitting finale in a celebration of the art of pyrotechnics. For years, La Mancha has been working to introduce world-class fireworks displays to the Philippines, organizing several large events such as the International Fireworks Festival (IFF) in 2003 and the World Pyro Olympics Exhibition (WPOE) in 2004 aside from providing pyrotechnic shows themselves. Even with minimal advertising, these events were able to bring in spectators not only from around the Metro Manila area, but also those from the provinces as well as an international audience-a good gauge to determine Filipinos' enthusiasm for such shows. A Vision for the Future These previous events now prove to be merely harbingers of a bigger and better event: the 1st World Pyro Olympics. In the space of five nights, teams from countries such as China, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, and the United States of America will bring world-class pyrotechnic displays literally to Philippine shores as they fire from barges in front of the Esplanade in the Bay City Central Business Park in Pasay City as they compete for the industry-wide prestige of being the Champion of the 1st World Pyro Olympics. There are big plans in store for the World Pyro Olympics, as La Mancha and its associates envision it to be established as a pyrotechnic institution in the Philippines; an annual tradition that Filipinos and holiday tourists alike can look forward to. The WPO promises to push the envelope as its participants will wow spectators with new developments in pyrotechnic technology such as shells that detonate from the water's surface in shows that are guaranteed to be awe-inducing. We can expect a lot, it seems, from the WPO. And with organizers coming from a background of successful events, spectators won't be disappointed. In the future, it is hoped that the spectators will be more involved in the shows, becoming "pyro-aficionados" who are familiar with the explosives that are used and the shapes that they produce. Perhaps they will have greater involvement in the judging of the participants and champions, and contribute their experiences, pictures and ideas to a World Pyro Olympics Museum. More than a fireworks display competition, the WPO gives spectators a holistic experience. It is a celebration of the art of pyrotechnics, as well as a platform on which cultures can experience each other. And a celebration it truly is, as the Esplanade will be filled with festivities for everyone to enjoy. For more information, call the WPO Information Center at 8173073 to 75 or visit our website at www.WorldPyroOlympics.com. tigidig14 December 9th, 2005, 09:54 AM ^^ holy crap, i would wanna be there. I know of a good location for those who don't want to pay a hundred bucks just to see the World Pyro Olympics. :D Eto o, diba kinunan ko 'to sa Westin? December 15th, 2005, 10:53 AM Listed mall operator SM Prime Holdings Inc. is looking to record a double digit growth in sales next year mainly driven by the revenues to be derived from its Mall of Asia. SM Prime chief finance officer Jose Sio said they are very bullish about the prospects of Mall of Asia, which is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2006. The company earlier expressed confidence of achieving an eight to 10 percent growth in its net income for 2005, on revenues from its new shopping malls, including SM City Batangas and SM City Dasmariñas, which were opened in 2004, and SM City San Lazaro, which was opened in July this year. In 2004, SM Prime recorded revenues of P10.2 billion and P4.62 billion in net income. SM Mall of Asia, which sits on a 60-hectare property over looking Manila Bay, is designed to become not just the Philippines’ largest but also the most complete and innovative shopping complex, according to the company. It was initially slated to open by the end of the year. SM Prime said although the anchor tenants, SM Department store and SM Hypermarket are ready to welcome their first customers by December 2005, it has decided to move the opening to the first quarter of 2006 to allow the maximum number of tenants to open together with the anchors. At present, total lease take-up is 75 percent. The 381,000 sq.m. complex consists of four buildings linked by elevated walkways. These buildings will feature a wide array of stores and venues for dining, entertainment, leisure, arts and culture. The main mall will include shopping and dining establishments, the food court and the country’s first Olympic-sized ice skating rink. The North Parking building will house the SM Department store and half of the 5,000 parking spaces while the South Parking building will include the SM Hypermarket and more dining areas. Aside from bowling and billiards facilities, the building will also house 10 theatres, including a Director’s Club and the country’s first IMAX theater. SM Prime reported an increase of 7 percent in its net income for the first nine months of the year to P3.6 billion from last year’s P3.37 billion. Rental income from leases in the malls and food courts grew 10 percent to P6.48 billion in the first nine-months or 2005 from P5.91 billion in the same period last year. This growth largely came from rentals in new SM Supermalls opened in 2004 and 2005, namely SM City Dasmariñas, SM City Batangas and SM City San Lazaro. These malls have an average occupancy level of 97 percent. SM recently announced that it will bid for a 27,351-square meter property in Cebu owned by the Cebu provincial government, located along Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue in Banilad, Cebu City. Calayag The SM Group plans to build by the second half of 2006 a ferry terminal near its Mall of Asia in Pasay City. An SM source said the Sy business empire is considering to operate a ferry terminal to give easy and fast access to tourist’s coming from various points such as Corregidor, an island west of Manila; Looc in Batangas; and Subic in Olongapo. “The SM Group will build a ferry terminal for tourists. It will be in the area of the Mall of Asia. The terminal will be mainly for tourism,” he said. However, the amount to be spent for the terminal and the types of boats that will service tourists have yet to be finalized since the project, which is part of a master plan, is “still drawing board.” “The terminal will be operated by a group of knowledgeable men in ferry business but it will be owned by SM,” the source added. When asked whether the proposed ferry terminal near its newest project is patterned after those board, the official said it was not saying the project had long been included in its master plan for the mall. The launch of Mall of Asia was earlier slated this December but was moved to next year due to problems concerning the sourcing of materials. I saw Gladiator in the Sony Metreon Imax theater in San Francisco and SpiderMan as well as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (in extended director's cut) in the Imax Theater in Dublin, (San Francisco Bay Area) California. I remember paying over $10.00 for Gladiator and around $15.00 for each Lord of the Rings movie. Ewan ko lang kung nagtaas na. Mind you regular theaters charge $9.75 - $10.00 for regular movie showing here. There was also a Michael Jordan flick in Imax that I saw in one of the LasVegas hotels (Luxor yata yun) but only paid $4.00 for that. I don't think the movies I saw in Imax look anywhwere near 8 floors worth of screen. So I can only assume that they only used a portion of the screen capacity depending on how the movie has been converted. The weird thing is in Imax, the screen is kinda tall and squarish (looks like a 4:3 screen like the analog TV) while on the otherhand the regular theater movie screens are kinda shorter but rectangular (looks like a 16:9 HDTV). Sinjin P. December 27th, 2005, 11:19 AM San Miguel and Coca-Cola to name IMAX Theater at SM One of the attractions that moviegoers can look forward to when the Mall of Asia opens early next year is the first IMAX Theater in the Philippines, one of the largest screens in the world. At by 22 by 30 meters, it it’s the height of an eight story building. In preparation for its opening, SM Shoemart recently entered into a partnership with Coca-Cola and San Miguel Corp. in a contract signing ceremony. With the partnership the IMAX theatre will have the distinction of being known as the San Miguel Coca-Cola IMAX Theater. San Miguel and Coca-Coca customers will enjoy upcoming privileges and the support will help keep ticket prices affordable. IMAX ‘s larger than life experience is made with 15/70 film format, 10 times the size of regular 35mmm film and the best sound system in the world. The unique film format projection technology and theater design combine to make for the most immersive movie-going-experience available – with images of unsurpassed sharpness and clarity never seen before in the Philippines. Some films will appeal to students and families such as the famous IMAX film, Everest IMAX 3C underwater and space films take you to places you would otherwise unable to go. However, IMAX has also recently gone mainstream with films such as the last two Harry Potter releases, Batman Returns, Star Wars Episode II, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and others, through its proprietary IMAX DMR technology which digitally transforms the original films to IMAX’s format – both pictures and sound. The San Miguel Coca-Cola IMAX Theater will shoe both Hollywood Blockbuster converted to the IMAX format and original 15/70 film. December 28th, 2005, 07:41 AM SM Prime sees no further delay in Mall of Asia opening next year Mall operator SM Prime Holdings, Inc. expects no further delay in the opening of its biggest project, the SM Mall of Asia, in February next year, a senior official told Business World during the weekend. The Pasay City mall, originally scheduled to open in December, is already 85% occupied by both existing and new retailers from food to the fashion business, Vice-President Jeffrey C. Lim said. “We will open before the end of the first quarter. We are looking at Feb. 24.” Lim said the Mall of Asia, which sits on a 60-hectare property overlooking the Manila Bay, will be different form other SM Malls as it offer shops not found in existing SM stores. With new retailers, the mall also hopes to cater the high-end market on top of its usual lower-to-middle income markets. “There will be new tenants and retailers not found in other shopping centers. These will give us more options to offer for higher-end markets,” he said, but declined to identify new occupants. The mall will also provide a call center office space. Dell, Inc. will be occupying a 13,470.5-square meter are at the north parking building of the mall, Mr. Lim said. The mall will also have state-of-the-art theater, an Olympic sized skating rink and possibly a science museum. The opening of the mall had been delayed because of hitches in the delivery in construction materials. Frequent rains in the last two months also delayed the turnover of mall space to tenants. Mr. Lim, however, said for a project as big as Mall of Asia, a delay of one to two months insignificant. He said consumers will find the wait worthwhile as the mall promises to be the most complete and unique shopping complex in the region. SM Prime said it is confident that it could still achieve its 8% to 10% growth target for this year despite the delays in the launch of the 381,000-square meter, four-building complex. “The mall operator is confident in achieving an 8% to 10% growth in its net income for 2005, on revenues from its new shopping malls,” SM Prime earlier said. --- ^^Wow, Thomasian was really accurate with his Feb. 24 statement. :applause: --- The IMAX Experience Coming to Manila Beginning next year, for the first time ever, moviegoers in Manila will be able to experience movies in the most powerful and unique way: The IMAX Experience®! Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2006 at the SM Mall of Asia, the first IMAX® theatre in the Philippines will feature the largest movie screen in the country, and be the first to offer IMAX® 3D, the most advanced cinematic 3D in the world. The theatre will showcase Hollywood blockbusters converted into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience, as well as educational and entertaining documentaries, and offer Filipinos a moviegoing experience unlike any they’ve had before. IMAX theatres utilize IMAX’s 15/70 film format – ten times larger than conventional 35mm film – and deliver the clearest, brightest and steadiest images in the world. At the new IMAX theatre in the SM Mall of Asia, these breathtaking, larger than life images will be projected onto a specially designed, massive 600 square meter screen, and be complemented by IMAX’s state-of-the-art digital surround sound system. With proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology, several of today’s biggest Hollywood releases, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman Begins, Spider-Man 2, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and the last two installments of Matrix trilogy, have been converted into IMAX’s immersive format and presented in IMAX theatres. The IMAX versions of these films have met excellent consumer response, been critically acclaimed and grossed nearly 0 million worldwide. The IMAX theatre in the SM Mall of Asia will also be the first to offer The IMAX 3D Experience in the Philippines. In IMAX 3D, films virtually jump off of the screen and float around the theatre, giving people the sensation they are IN the movie. This is made possible by a combination of IMAX’s powerful 3D projector – which projects two strips of large-format film onto specially designed screens – and special, polarized IMAX 3D glasses that audience members wear to fuse the left and right eye images. The result is an amazing three-dimensional cinematic experience where the screen disappears and the film becomes a virtual reality. In addition to Hollywood movies in IMAX’s format, there are also more than 200 traditional documentary-style films in the large format library, including a number of educational and entertaining titles. About the SM Group The SM Group was founded in 1958 by Henry Sy, Sr. and is now the largest mall operator in the Philippines. The Mall of Asia will be the 24th mall for the SM Group and it will be the largest and finest to date. When the Mall of Asia opens in the first quarter of 2006, it will bring to the Philippines a new standard of shopping and entertainment. With over 380,000 square meters of gross floor area, it will include such attractions as an Olympic size skating rink, nine 35-mm theatres, a large live theatre and the biggest array of retail, dining and entertainment options every assembled under one roof in the Philippines. The Mall of Asia is the perfect venue to bring the “Ultimate Movie Experience” to Filipinos. Although IMAX is the finest form of out of home entertainment in the world, the SM Group will price tickets to be affordable for most Filipinos, consistent with the SM Group’s philosophies for all its new innovations. --- ^^Oh, so there will only be 1 IMAX Theatre and the other 9 will be the regular 35mm theatres. --- rockwell baller December 28th, 2005, 11:12 AM so there will be no more delays! good news sinjin _zner_ December 28th, 2005, 11:37 AM i hope so.... but everything could go wrong.. i hope not!! :D Sinjin P.
