Malayo pa rin ang SM Harrison sa Mall of Asia ha. MOA is in Pasay, almost bordering Paranaque while Harrison is in Malate, Manila. It still takes around 15 minutes in light-medium traffic to get from one to the other, abot ng 30 minutes or more in heavy traffic. Harrison caters to the many hotel and condo residents living in the Malate area, who won't want to go all the way past the CCP complex just to shop.

The proposed SM Vito Cruz is in Makati. That's nowhere near MOA. It's closest competition would actually be Shopwise Vito Cruz (just down the road!) and Cash and Carry and Makro near Buendia.

^^ yup, and SM Vito Cruz Hypermarket is more of a community-type of shopping center as compared to the super-regional MoA.

As far as I know, there are three SM Malls in Cavite. In Bacoor, Dasmarinyas and in Molino which opened last month. Dasmarinyas is the biggest of the three.

The Centennial and Millenium Celebrations at Fort Bonifacio are the events that blaze bright in Filipinos minds when they think of the best fireworks display that they have seen in the Philippines. di ba may bridgheway ang sm makati papuntang glorietta? kaya lang maliit lng na nasa 2nd floor? any way, maganda ang pagrerenovate sa sm makati parang "mall within a department store" dahil sa style ng architecture niya sa loob and it is so beautiful. malaki din yang department store ha and it is very accessible sa MRT. malaki din ang supermarket and every floors nakaclassify lahat ang gamit.

I passed in Clark yesterday for a debut of my friend at Holiday Inn and I was surprised that SM Clark's facade is CIRCULAR! I mean it looks like a sports stadium from afar. Bilog talag ung harapan! I cant take pictures because its very near the main gate so expected are hundreds of guards. It's unlike any other SM Mall because its bilog!

Nope, Ive never seen any other SM Mall like it. SM mall of Asia may have those circular thingies in the facade. But this one, one entire big part of the building is circular in shape! :)

but... i'm really wondering... what did the engineers face to build this pinoy megastructure?... will it feature any innovation in constuction? how did they plan to build it on reclaimed land? how will they counter disasters?

it's already december and SM has around 2 months to go before it opens MOA. yey! i don't think they are going to finish it though.
The back part of the mall isn't even 100% cladded yet and there are lots of interior works that are left to be done. In addition, there are still lots of things to clean up including electric posts, employees' makeshift houses, etc.

well for a building of such size I guess it would've invovled a lot of support to the structure engineering wise; the a/c system would be quite complicated, I guess just the basic things that would have to be applied to a massive structure is a Filipino engineering feat. and possibly building in reclaimed land was also an issue.

2 months alotment is not bad.. they could still cram it.. hehe

It's not just the reclaimed ares that are vulnerable to liquifaction, Manila (especially within the pasig river delta) and the nearby coastal cities can also be victims of liquifaction.

Listed mall operator SM Prime Holdings Inc. is looking to record a double digit growth in sales next year mainly driven by the revenues to be derived from its Mall of Asia.

SM Prime chief finance officer Jose Sio said they are very bullish about the prospects of Mall of Asia, which is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2006.

The company earlier expressed confidence of achieving an eight to 10 percent growth in its net income for 2005, on revenues from its new shopping malls, including SM City Batangas and SM City Dasmariñas, which were opened in 2004, and SM City San Lazaro, which was opened in July this year.

In 2004, SM Prime recorded revenues of P10.2 billion and P4.62 billion in net income.

SM Mall of Asia, which sits on a 60-hectare property over looking Manila Bay, is designed to become not just the Philippines’ largest but also the most complete and innovative shopping complex, according to the company.

It was initially slated to open by the end of the year. SM Prime said although the anchor tenants, SM Department store and SM Hypermarket are ready to welcome their first customers by December 2005, it has decided to move the opening to the first quarter of 2006 to allow the maximum number of tenants to open together with the anchors.

At present, total lease take-up is 75 percent.

The 381,000 sq.m. complex consists of four buildings linked by elevated walkways. These buildings will feature a wide array of stores and venues for dining, entertainment, leisure, arts and culture.

The main mall will include shopping and dining establishments, the food court and the country’s first Olympic-sized ice skating rink. The North Parking building will house the SM Department store and half of the 5,000 parking spaces while the South Parking building will include the SM Hypermarket and more dining areas.

Aside from bowling and billiards facilities, the building will also house 10 theatres, including a Director’s Club and the country’s first IMAX theater.

SM Prime reported an increase of 7 percent in its net income for the first nine months of the year to P3.6 billion from last year’s P3.37 billion.

Rental income from leases in the malls and food courts grew 10 percent to P6.48 billion in the first nine-months or 2005 from P5.91 billion in the same period last year. This growth largely came from rentals in new SM Supermalls opened in 2004 and 2005, namely SM City Dasmariñas, SM City Batangas and SM City San Lazaro. These malls have an average occupancy level of 97 percent.

SM recently announced that it will bid for a 27,351-square meter property in Cebu owned by the Cebu provincial government, located along Gov. M. Cuenco Avenue in Banilad, Cebu City.

“The terminal will be operated by a group of knowledgeable men in ferry business but it will be owned by SM,” the source added.

When asked whether the proposed ferry terminal near its newest project is patterned after those board, the official said it was not saying the project had long been included in its master plan for the mall.

The launch of Mall of Asia was earlier slated this December but was moved to next year due to problems concerning the sourcing of materials. The SM Group has assured there were no other reasons for the delay.

I saw Gladiator in the Sony Metreon Imax theater in San Francisco and SpiderMan as well as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (in extended director's cut) in the Imax Theater in Dublin, (San Francisco Bay Area) California. I remember paying over $10.00 for Gladiator and around $15.00 for each Lord of the Rings movie. Ewan ko lang kung nagtaas na. Mind you regular theaters charge $9.75 - $10.00 for regular movie showing here. There was also a Michael Jordan flick in Imax that I saw in one of the LasVegas hotels (Luxor yata yun) but only paid $4.00 for that.

I don't think the movies I saw in Imax look anywhwere near 8 floors worth of screen. So I can only assume that they only used a portion of the screen capacity depending on how the movie has been converted. The weird thing is in Imax, the screen is kinda tall and squarish (looks like a 4:3 screen like the analog TV) while on the otherhand the regular theater movie screens are kinda shorter but rectangular (looks like a 16:9 HDTV). Medyo nakakapanibago.

IMAX ‘s larger than life experience is made with 15/70 film format, 10 times the size of regular 35mmm film and the best sound system in the world. Some films will appeal to students and families such as the famous IMAX film, Everest IMAX 3C underwater and space films take you to places you would otherwise unable to go. SM Prime sees no further delay in Mall of Asia opening next year

Mall operator SM Prime Holdings, Inc. expects no further delay in the opening of its biggest project, the SM Mall of Asia, in February next year, a senior official told Business World during the weekend.

The Pasay City mall, originally scheduled to open in December, is already 85% occupied by both existing and new retailers from food to the fashion business, Vice-President Jeffrey C. Lim said. “We will open before the end of the first quarter. We are looking at Feb. 24.”

Lim said the Mall of Asia, which sits on a 60-hectare property overlooking the Manila Bay, will be different form other SM Malls as it offer shops not found in existing SM stores. With new retailers, the mall also hopes to cater the high-end market on top of its usual lower-to-middle income markets.

“There will be new tenants and retailers not found in other shopping centers. These will give us more options to offer for higher-end markets,” he said, but declined to identify new occupants.

The mall will also provide a call center office space. Dell, Inc. will be occupying a 13,470.5-square meter are at the north parking building of the mall, Mr. Lim said.

The mall will also have state-of-the-art theater, an Olympic sized skating rink and possibly a science museum.

The opening of the mall had been delayed because of hitches in the delivery in construction materials. Frequent rains in the last two months also delayed the turnover of mall space to tenants.

Mr. Lim, however, said for a project as big as Mall of Asia, a delay of one to two months insignificant. He said consumers will find the wait worthwhile as the mall promises to be the most complete and unique shopping complex in the region.

SM Prime said it is confident that it could still achieve its 8% to 10% growth target for this year despite the delays in the launch of the 381,000-square meter, four-building complex.

“The mall operator is confident in achieving an 8% to 10% growth in its net income for 2005, on revenues from its new shopping malls,” SM Prime earlier said.

that's true. a close friend of mine who works for Stores Specialists, Inc. (that company which brought to the Philippines stores such as Debenhams, Prada, Gucci, DKNY, Zara, etc.) says that they are opening a lot of high end stores in MOA.

Im not sure if SM allows the "selling off" of the lease contract. But, SM do allow, in a tri-partite agreement, the take over of a franchisor on a franchisee store or outlet. Kulit-kulitin mo lang ang leasing department nila..eventually they will give in coz they need tenants to fill up their mall...di naman lahat famous brands ang ipapasok nila dyan.
