it's SM, what would you expect of the crowd? and it's near Baclaran so expect an invasion of the baclaran dudes hehehe. kahit nga starbucks, it's actually becoming a jologs crowd so conyo manileños prefer other coffee shops...like it's so kaka already :lol:

but seriously sinjin, if you don't like jologs people, it's sort of a sign of insecurity about one's status...

I'm just experiencing that thing in Ayala Center Cebu. Those "Crips Gang" members troop at Timezone with those hair so sticky with all the gel, with those blue scarfs/flags on their foreheads or hung at the backpockets of their pants and all those sunglasses. lol, they're annoying.

And when you wear a red shirt and go near to them, they'll say to you: "What's up Bloods?" like they're assuming that you're a member of their rival gang, Bloods. lol

I didn't say that I HATE TO SEE POOR PEOPLE. ;) I love to see people from all walks of life too. What I meant by JOLOGS are those members of gangs, at yung walang ibang magawa kundi manggulo sa mall. :)

my classmate just coined a new term....jologsville! hahahhahaha

anyways, para sa akin wala naman masama sa pagiging jologs eh, ano magagawa ko, yan "taste" nila eh. Pero yun mga iba eh, sa pananaw nila, mga jologs eh mga walang class tapos asal kalye at "weird" yun pamumuhay nila lol

for me... jologs is a way of thinking... a way of life... not based on how you look or who are you with... its on how you do stuff.
it doesnt mean that if you're poor, you're already jologs... :)
like me...! i'm studying at PUP... (others consider this school as 'jologsville'... like what sista said...)... i'm poor... but i dont act like those eeeeekky students who dont take a bath or those aktibistas who often shout "gloria pasista, patalsikin si gloria"... i dont act like that...

so even though i live in an environment like that, as long as i dont act like that... i'm not jologs...

and by the way... @sinjin... pati ba naman sa loob ng ayala may gang war? yikes.

Naniniwala nga akong pangit tignan yung mga crips na yan sa mga malls kasi ang panget that's it!

Imagine ang itim-itim tapos colored yung hair with highlights, baggy clothes, baduy accessories and the like. Parang trying hard to be punk (which is so uber-trendy and cool) na kulang sa execution.

yuck... we often laugh at people like this... (not to be so judgemental and all...) but they are sooooooo damn funny... they could at least wear something appropriate (or at least ung bagay sa kanila.) hindi naman namin iniinsulto ung faces nila or something... nakakaloka lang talaga ung style nila... and to mention... hindi na uso ang baggy. (yuck.)

SM INVESTMENTS Corp. said it would spend 2.4 billion pesos to put up the country's first privately owned convention center and a 10-story building that would host business process outsourcing firms.

Both will be built right beside SM Prime Holdings Corp.'s Mall of Asia in a reclaimed area along Roxas Boulevard, which is being constructed to become the largest shopping center in the Philippines.

In a statement, SM Investments said it would spend roughly 900 million pesos to construct the 40,000-square meter SM Exhibition and Convention Center which is designed to host conferences and trade exhibits.

Meanwhile, the SM eCOMCenter will cost about 1.5 billion pesos and will have a total leasable area of 67,900 square meters. Both projects are to be completed in mid-2007.

a lot of people here in Makati are from PUP.. yung iba mga VP na.. it's not the school.. it's the student..

SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), the listed investment holding company of retail tycoon Henry Sy, will put up two new buildings worth around P2.4 billion within its 60-hectare Mall of Asia complex.

SMIC said the two projects involve the first private-run exhibition and convention center in the country, estimated to cost P900 million, and a 10-story courtyard-oriented e-commerce building, which will cost the company some P1.5 billion. Both projects are slated for completion by the middle of 2007.

The 40,000-square meter SM Exhibition and Convention Center, is envisioned as a favored venue for major conferences and trade exhibits, as well as for other international and local events. The building will have two floors, a mezzanine and basement parking with a total leasable area of 17,800 square meters featuring large exhibition areas and function rooms. The 94,000-square meter SM eCOMCenter, on the other hand, will have a total leasable area of 67,900 square meters with seven floors allotted for office space, two and a half floors for parking, and the ground floor for commercial uses. Dell Inc., the world’s largest computer maker, has already inked a deal with the SM Group to lease an office space within the e-commerce building.

Other developments being planned at the SM central business park include corporate headquarters for one or two conglomerates, hotels, office and residential clusters, a coliseum for sporting events and entertainment shows, as well as a ferry terminal.

The Mall of Asia, the property’s centerpiece, is set to open by the first quarter of 2006. The 381,000-square meter complex consists of four buildings that will feature the widest array of stores and venues for entertainment, sports, arts and culture, and the country’s first IMAX theater.

Over the long term, the SM central business park with its strategic location, will emerge as the foremost and the only central business district in the country by the bay, integrating business park facilities with entertainment, recreational, tourism, and residential land uses.

Located at the heart of the Philippine capital against the backdrop of the famous Manila Bay sunset and near the international airport, the business park is seen to put the city on the world map among the new and exciting developing urban centers of Asia.

Pasay City Proposes Business On The Bay

The City of Pasay is out to change the local
way of doing business as it scrambles to host
establishments in competition with other
Metro Manila local government units. Central
to this initiative is the planned start next
year of a one-kilometer road from the shoreline
of Manila bay out to the sea beyond the
SM Mall of Asia. On the sides of the road
would be platforms, supported by oil rig
technology, where medium-rise business
establishments and residential buildings can
be built. Pasay City has a disadvantage in the
race to lure new locators, primarily the lack
of land. In addition, the current P45,000-
65,000 per-square-meter price of available
is seen as a disincentive. The estimated cost
to construct the one-kilometer segment is
around P5-B. Based on the proposed timetable,
the project will be operational by January
2007. The city government plans to complete
a total of three kilometers but that
would come after the success of the first
kilometer.

Something to look forward to when the Mall of Asia (located at the reclamation area) opens one of these days is the first ever IMAX theater in the Philippines. It has one of the largest screens in the world. At 22 x 30 meters, it is the height of an eight-storey building.

According to Engr. Ric D. Camaligan, 1st vice president of Leisure Center, Inc. of the SM Group of Companies, they’ve lined up a number of exciting Hollywood blockbusters, among them "Everest," for showing at the IMAX theater. "It will be an awesome experience watching these movies on a real big screen the size of an eight-storey building," Ric gushed. Admission to the IMAX theater will be a little more than the usual admission price, he said.

The IMAX theater will definitely be a big attraction of Mall of Asia when it opens later this month. By the way, SM Shoemart recently entered into a partnership with San Miguel Corp. and Coca-Cola and with this, the theater will be named the San Miguel Coca-Cola IMAX Theatre. San Miguel and Coca-Cola customers will enjoy upcoming privileges and the support will help keep ticket prices affordable. This innovative marketing partnership will encourage programs to make the finest cinema experience in the world accessible to most Filipinos.

IMAX’s larger than life experience is made possible with a 15/70 film format, which is 10 times the size of regular 35mm film, and the best sound system in the world. The unique film format, projection technology and theatre design combine to make for the most immersive moviegoing experience available — with images of unsurpassed sharpness and clarity never seen before in the Philippines. The wait is almost over.

Finally, it's time to get a taste of progress.

The wait is now only measured in "days".

This will be way way better than Gateway.

And so far, wala pa yatang pangontra ang Ayala Group (no word yet on Glorietta 5 and on what's happening sa North Triangle/Araneta Center renovation).

North Triangle is HUGE. But MoA is catering for a different area of Metro Manila. Provided they can get perhaps jeeneys, shuttles or other forms of transportation connecting it to LRT and MRT lines, they it can be very very successful. It isn't just a mall, but it's a whole complex of different things, plus Manila Bays view and breeze. That could edge it over North Triangle eh

Lahat ng Bus going to Baclaran along EDSA will take a U-turn aroung SM MOA-Globe. Kaya sakay ka lang ng Baclaran na Bus at makakarating ka na ng MOA, very accessible sya.

Because according to this article, opening will now be March 3. :cry:

SM Prime upbeat over 2006 prospects

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. which operates the largest mall network in the Philippines, expressed optimism Thursday over growth prospects for the year, and said it expects to benefit from improved investor and consumer confidence it sees resulting from government fiscal reforms.

SM Prime, which plans to open five new malls this year, predicted the government’s scheduled value added-tax increase this year would benefit the country’s economy, despite the initial impact the move could have on retail prices, saying consumer spending would remain upbeat.

“There will be growth in terms of existing store sales, in terms of additional space with new malls to be put up, and for the overall economy in general, “SM Prime Senior Vice-President for Finance Jose T. Sio told Dow Jones Newswires.

“We are very confident about the economy this year. This will be a good year for the Philippines, all in all,” he said, however, he declined to specify growth targets for SM Prime this year.

He added that the company is still finalizing its 2005 financial report.

In the nine months to Sept. 30, SM Prime posted a 6.5 percent on-year increase in net profit to P3.59 billion ($ 68.4 million), from P3.37 billion.

Revenue for the same period expanded 4.8 percent on year to P7.80 billion, boosted largely by rental income from lease in SM Prime’s malls and food courts.

The average estimates of seven analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial forecasts SM Prime’s full year net profit at P4.99 billion, up 8 percent from the P4.62 billion recorded in 2004.

For next year, the same survey forecast a net profit of P5.71 billion. The estimates ranged between P5.39 billion and P5.90 billion.

Sio said SM Prime is salted to open five new malls this year including Mall of Asia, a 381,000 square meter retail facility south of Manila.

SM Prime currently has a network of 22 shopping complexes nationwide with a combined gross floor area of P2.8 million square meters.

Sio said SM Prime is scheduled to open Mall of Asia in March 3. The new mall is a departure from the traditional box-type physical structure of SM Prime’s other malls, as it incorporates more modern architectural design techniques, he said.

A total P4 billion has been earmarked by SM Prime for capital expenditure this year which will be internally generated, said Sio.

He said the company unperturbed by the possible adverse impact on consumer prices brought about by next month’s scheduled increase in the value added tax rate, underscoring instead the improved investor confidence generated by the government’s ingoing fiscal reforms.

“I think all these improvements in the fiscal area help build the confidence of businessmen, it helps the overall economy,” he said.

bakit parang ang liit ng atin gmall of asia? dapat kung mall of asia yan eh talagang dambuhala... actually kasama sa day dreaming ko yan 5 yrs ago na magkaroon ng "mall of asia" somewhere sa davao, as in a new city within a mall... tapos nang narinig kong magkakaroon daw ng mall of asia sa manila, na-taranta ako at excited, yung pala ang liit... too small for what i have expected... in fairness mabuti nayan kesa sa wala, tsaka yan yata ang pinakang malaking sm mall ano sa ngayon, di ba? maganda naman eh... :)

I think the delay has got to do with the number of tenants they want during the opening day. They want to make an impact or an impression of a "sold out lease" when they open up the Mall of Asia to the public.

JVS Worldwide, Inc., the franchise holder of UK-based "The Body Shop" in the Philippines, is targetting to put up 100 stores in the next four years in order to increase its revenues, company chief executive officer Emmanuel O. del Rosario said.

In an interview, Del Rosario said the potential for growth for a skin and body care retailer such as "The Body Shop" is still huge considering that the market for its type of products is still quite untapped to this day.

"We intend to increase our number of stores to drive our sales. We still think that the Philippines can still take in more stores. We want to increase the accessibility of our products. We are not a destination product. You have to see us. Most of the products here in the Philippines are impulse products. When you don?t see them, you don?t buy them. So in order to grow we have to be more visible?We have to put up more stores as possible..wherever there are people," del Rosario said.

On top of this, del Rosaio said, their optimism for growth relies on the fact that consumers are now more matured when buying a product. He said that more and more consumers are now giving importance to quality.

According to del Rosario, it is now evident that consumers are now more willing to shell out a significant amount to enjoy a product that has high quality. " People are after quality now. They are now more discerning. There is no staying power unless you offer good quality to consumers. People are now more looking into value," he said.

JVS Worldwide has earmarked on putting up 7 " The Body Shop" stores this year. These new stores will be located in different malls Luzon-wide such as Gateway in Cubao, Quezon City, Eastwood City in Libis, also in Quezon City, SM San Lazaro in Manila, SM Makati, SM Molino in Cavite, SM Valenzuela and the Mall of Asia along Roxas Boulevard which would be its biggest store.

In addition to new stores, del Rosario said " The Body Shop" will also launch a direct-selling program within the year. With these initiatives, he said "The Body Shop" will add up 25 percent on its sales this year on top of the P500 million sales it made last year.

There are now 40 " The Body Shop" branches in the country. These shops are located nationwide and are all owned and operated by JVS Worldwide, which is also the distributor of the French jeans brand Marith順ran篩s Girbaud and the Singaporean fashion label MPhosis.

SM Megamall is 331,679 square meters

so it's like adding SM Molino (48,248 sq.m) to SM Megamall. :D

Aside from the bay location, the ferry terminal will also make MOA unique as compared to all other giant malls.

Tenants and other occupants at SM Mall of Asia have been preparing their outlets at the Mall now.

My friend from one of the big retail establishments in the country is always at the Mall of Asia overseeing the unloading of their display racks. Next few weeks will see stocks of products being delivered and unloaded at a frenetic pace.

Does anybody know the architectural design of the MOA Ferry terminal? Please post the renderings here. I hope it will be an edifice with a "regatta sail" theme tower to make the area spectacular since the mall itself is not that unique.

I cant find any renderings but according to the website the construction of the ferry terminal will start in the second half of 2006.

The mall has four cinemas and a foodcourt. It also features an entertainment plaza, which will serve as a venue for events such as mall tours of popular artists and bands.

But what makes SM City Sta. Rosa different from other SM malls is a butterfly garden found at the center mall area. The garden is surrounded by coffee kiosks where shoppers can take a break and relax.

Aside from SM City Sta. Rosa, SMPH is opening at least four other malls this year including SM City Clark, SM City Lipa and SM City Bacolod. SMPH is also expanding SM North Edsa with the construction of Annex 3. SMPH will also open its biggest shopping mall next month. The Mall of Asia will hold its soft opening on March 3, 2006 with SM anchor tenants such as the SM Department Store, the SM Hypermarket and the country’s first I-MAX theater ready to welcome the public.
