- There's a rumor that Teletech is expanding and will occupy some portion of Robinsons Iloilo. I think this will pave the way for our own Cybergate. (source: a friend who's a QA at Teletech)

- In fairness sa Iloilo especially if you're going to Guimbal or Tigbaun, damu-damu mansion! Impressive kaayo especially nga nami man da ang mga jeep daw feeling mo cars lang tanan ang ga traverse sa road. No wonder daw puro bag o salakyan sang mga Ilonggo. Daw indi lang Iloilo a... Councilor eyes reduction of amusement tax

CITY Councilor Nielex C. Tupas intends to sponsor an amendment to the existing local revenue code of Iloilo City.

Tupas said the amendment can be done by lowering the amusement tax on gross receipts from admission fees on pop, rock and other similar concerts from 30 percent to 10 percent.

Tupas said his proposal will, in fact, revise the provision on amusement taxes.

Regulation Ordinance 2007-016, enacted on December 19, 2007, amended Ordinance 399 Series of 1992 otherwise known as "The Local Revenue Code of Iloilo City and Providing Penalties thereof."

The amended ordinance had set forth the provision on "the holding of operas, concerts, dramas, recitals, painting and art exhibitions, flower shows, musical programs, literary and oratorical presentation, except pop, rock or similar concerts from the payment of the tax imposed."

Tupas admitted that promoters had shunned away from bringing world-class pop and rock entertainers to Iloilo City due to the 30 percent amusement tax.

Bigger cities like Quezon City, Cebu and Bacolod levy a 10 percent amusement tax on pop and rock concerts so its people enjoy the world-class performances.

It is high time the city of Iloilo lowers its amusement taxes so as pop artists are encouraged to come and perform here, Tupas said.

The city councilor said other members of the City Council are amenable to the idea of lowering the amusement tax, including Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.

Haay...makes me wonder if we can really call them honorable for being so blind in raising it to 30%.

At least they'll lower it. That's better now.

Most of those mansions as I've heard are owned by OFWs. That's the trend among those living in rural areas. In the city, the trend is to get better cars.

Mansions in the rual areas, SUVs in the urban areas. Just an observation.

actually ang tendency gid man sang mga progressive city is going outside inorder to have room for development just like here in Los Angeles,one of the oldest city in the US. ang mga perti nga balay iya ara sa guha sang LA tapos ang old city iya ahay ka mga dumaan na gid ang mga building and dilapidated na ang iban ang iban gin restore na lang iban daw museum type but it's historical though.amo ni iya ang toud toud nga metropolitan iya kay city with in a city.i wish amo man ni ang iloilo someday.:)

dugay na ina gina rumor sa Molo ang SM MOlo, actually sa iya site dira sa may plaza molo ang cosing resident bala (YUSAY MANSION) daku nada and lapad ka ayo sa likod plus pa sa avancena in between sang caltex and salas residence dala pa ina. pero wala ko kabalo kun nadayon ang baklanay. then ang rumors pa guid ang dira sa may gasoline station sang una ang may construction supply da sa tupad sang simbahan (MH del pilar) amo pa guid nada kuno ang gina bakal san SM pero i dont know if rumors lang ina tanan.

THE Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) is optimistic it can generate more funds from prospective sponsors during its national launching at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) in Pasay City, Manila on Dec. 13.

IDFI Vice President Ricardo said: “We will be covering a much wider area and attracting as many support as possible.”

“The audience in Manila will be really the guys who would come and have come in the past to witness Dinagyang. We can link up with Ilonggos who have transplanted in Manila and who are in business there to help generate support for the festival,” Andrada said.
He added SM top executives have been invited to grace the festival launch as well as Ilonggos who are leaders in the business community.

“We have also requested city officials to help follow up on sponsors. We are confident it will yield positive results,” Andrada told reporters during Dinagyang’s local launch at SM City Iloilo Monday.

He said the IDFI is ready for the national launch even as they started sending out invitation letters weeks ago in an attempt to attract massive promotions.

The IDFI will bring Ang Taga-Jaro tribe for performances at MOA and Greenhills Shopping Center and Tiendisitas in Ortigas, Manila.

A photo exhibit featuring Dinagyang spectacle will be set up in MOA from the works of Photographic Society of Iloilo (PSI).

Andrada said they also hope to make rounds of media outlets in Manila to drum up interest and awareness on Dinagyang.

“The pledges of our generous sponsors are starting to come in while we try to encourage other untapped potential sources to beef up our festival funds,” IDFI President Lee Chuan said.

IDFI is targeting P13million for a successful hosting of the 2009 edition of Dinagyang, the city’s premiere celebration which boosts tourism and economic activities during its highlights in January.

Set up in 2001, IDFI is a triumvirate of private-church-government sectors organizing Dinagyang as tourism and investment promotion vehicle of Iloilo for nine years now.

Dinagyang has been recognized the best tourism event in the country for three consecutive years by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP).

Panay Electric Company (Peco) will be reducing its electricity rate starting December 15 this year. But Engr. Randy Pastolero of PECO, which supplies power to Iloilo City, declined to state how much the reduction will be, saying it would depend on how much power supplier Panay Power Corporation will bill them on December 10.

At present, PPC's generation charge is at P9.23. But definitely, there will be a reduction, he stressed. Another reduction is set on January next year to reflect the downward trend in the global oil prices, he assured.

"Our consumers will observe in their bill for December 2008 that there was a reduction in the generation charges," Pastolero said.

PPC bills PECO every tenth day of the month for the power purchased the previous month. So by that time, we will already know how much to reduce from our charges, he added.

At P13.80 for every kilowatt-hour, Peco's power rates are considered the highest in the country.

However, PECO consumers will not be enjoying fully the drop in the prices of fuel. Earlier, Pastolero said that PECO still has to recover P1.30 for every kilowatt/hour.

He explained that because oil prices rose sharply from August to September this year, PECO's bill with PPC was P1.30 per kilowatt/hour higher. But the increase was not immediately passed on to the consumers, Pastolero said.

Likewise, PECO deferred payment on the excess amount.

Now that oil prices are falling, PPC gave us four months within which to pay, Pastolero said, adding that the under recoveries will be distributed evenly over a four month period starting this month.

Vendors to occupy sidewalk again

The city government will once again allow vendors to sell their stuff along the sidewalk of the main streets of Iloilo City to earn some money for the Christmas season.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said he has yet to fix the date when to let the vendors start selling on the sidewalks. They will probably be allowed to start selling their commodities from December 16 until December 31, he said.

Treñas said it is the city's contribution to the vendors who want to earn money by selling various goods without paying anything from the city government. It is part of the city's poverty alleviation and it is all for free, he said.

Even in normal circumstances, the city's sidewalks are already flooded with vendors. The streets become even more crowded during the holidays as vendors compete with each other in selling their goods. There presence affects the flow of traffic.

The vendors could sell assorted goods, from fruits, house wares, clothes, toys and gift items for the holidays except firecrackers. The vendors have to follow the firecracker zones, said Treñas.

The city government has already designated several firecracker zones commonly in district plazas. The vendors are likewise guided with safety measures to avoid fire and other accidents while displaying their firecrackers and other pyrotechniques

Amo lang nami sa Iloilo kay ang mga nagmian balay indi limited sa mga gated communities. Added attraction kung mag roadtrip, nami ni siya guro obrahan blog ay hehe... sa Zarraga man daw damo expat patindog balay.

dalasaa na lang ang Leganes kag Dumangas damo man da nag mian nga balay.agi ka coastal road going to dumangas is a great view.it's overlooking the guimaras and negros island.i hope someday madevelop and ma upgrade ang seaside beach dira.damo da permi tawo esp. on sundays.tapos kaon-kaon sa may mga freshseafood retaurant on the highway daw kanami lang imagine ba.daw wala problema e.

THIS southern city bested other cities in the country in the TeleTech best sites search. Signifying its fast growing call center service here, TeleTech gave the city an award December 3 in Metro Manila.

City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the city is being recognized as the second most important site among 6 TeleTech sites throughout the world. This will significantly amplify the city’s bid as the next important business hub and business process outsourcing (BPO) site, Treñas said.

Similarly, the city is also ranked third in the list of call center sites in the country selected by the Association of BPOs of the Philippines.

Of the 36 other call centers operating in the country, the Iloilo site is ranked 13th but number 2 globally. TeleTech has sites in the United States, Canada, South Africa, and Argentina.

Treñas said that TeleTech, with offices at the SM City here, is happy with the quality of students Iloilo produce annually, many of them join a pool of prospective quality call center agents.

TeleTech, currently considered as the fastest growing BPO, is set to promote more than 60 of its Filipino personnel to managerial level to be posted in different countries. The company is also recruiting call center agents from the ranks of local students and professionals to fill in the posts of promoted personnel.

Because of the unstable soil, businesses opted to limit the height.
8 floors is already a good height for buildings here in the city.

I envision most high-rises to be in Mandurriao area, where the soil is the strongest and where floods are rare (on most parts).

ILOILO CITY, Dec 4 Asia Pulse - Iloilo City is now ranked third in the 2008 next wave cities scorecard of the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT).

Iloilo City executive assistant for economic promotions and investments Ma. Gracia Chua received the recognition in a ceremony held in Manila Wednesday.

Chua said the city got an over-all score of 88.35 percent, likewise obtaining the highest score in availability of talents at 89.20 percent.

The cities of Laguna and Cavite grabbed the first and second ranks, respectively.

Mayor Jerry P. Treas expressed optimism that the award together with several improvements going on in terms of infrastructure would surely bring in more investments.

Treas admitted that Iloilo lacks infrastructure but there are already several buildings here working to secure an accreditation from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

At present, two movie houses of the Robinsons Place are already PEZA accredited and also the SM City.

Gaisano City is also applying for the said accreditation.

Once all these buildings are in place we can get investors, he said.

Meanwhile, aside from the BPAP recognition, the mayor was also informed by the management of the Teletech that Iloilo City is number two in terms of customer satisfaction during their global customer satisfaction survey.

The survey was conducted among Teletech business sites in the Philippines and abroad.

The water supply problem of Metro Iloilo

(Part III)

LAST November 27, 2008, the perennial water shortage (both during summer and rainy season) problem of Metro Iloilo was again discussed during the Regional Development Council meeting at the NEDA office at Fort San Pedro, Iloilo City presided by Mayor Jerry Treñas. Power and water are the siamese twins in the progress of Metro Iloilo, remove one and the local economy will stagnate. Today we will refresh our readers especially our government officials on the various articles this writer published with The Daily Guardian regarding the water crisis as a gentle reminder that “we always don’t know what we already knew”.

1. According to NEDA, Metro Iloilo has among the fastest water demand growth in the country. It will reach 300,000 cubic meters per day by year 2030.

2. Presently MIWD serves a measly 30% of the water requirements of Metro Iloilo of 140,000 cubic meters per day. The 70% balance comes from private and public water wells, of which there are 8,000 to 10,000 wells where 400 of these wells exceed depth of 100 ft. Without these wells the economy of Iloilo City will collapse due to lack of water supply.

3. The ONLY WAY that MIWD could increase its water supply and adequately answer this rapidly growing water demand is to source out its water supply 50% from surface waters of rivers and 50% from underground water source. Even during rainy season surface water supply from rivers is limited because of heavy dissolve loads (siltation) the river carries. This is due to the massive erosion in the mountains brought about by a non-existent watershed management. Even if the existing settling facilities at the MIWD Sta. Barbara reservoir are tripled, still it cannot handle the enormous silt carried by the river waters. Adding to MIWD woes is the clogging up with mud and silt of its transmission pipe from Maasin to Sta. Barbara reservoir during heavy rains.

4. Supply of surface waters from rivers is TOTALLY dependent on a scientific watershed management in Maasin of which there is NONE at present. The existing Tigum and Aganan Watershed Management Board is ineffective, toothless and devoid of technical knowledge on watershed management. It is also unwieldy because there are so many LGUs and government agencies, members with no specific responsibility and authority. Leadership is left to private individuals with hidden agenda of their own and whose watershed management concepts are foolish and stupid. One example: “Trees drinks a lot of water that it depletes the underground water reserve”. Proof of this ineffective idea is that, for the past 15 to 20 years of the same watershed management setup, the water level of Tigum and Aganan rivers during summer have never improved. In fact, it has even gone down further every year.

5. The existing Watershed Management Council should be abolished and terminated IMMEDIATELY. Let DENR and MIWD take over its functions and only the Municipality of Maasin among the LGUs should participate on a purely supportive basis only. Limiting the watershed management to only three agencies will make it more responsive and effective because authority and responsibility is pinpointed for accurate accountability.

6. The underground water resource is not so much affected by a non-existent watershed management. While it may take 20 to 30 years to heal our watershed (that is if we have the will and technical expertise) in order to have a steady and ample water supply from rivers, we can meanwhile depend on underground water which can supply as much as 150,000 cubic meters per day, equivalent to the entire water demand of METRO Iloilo up to year 2012. THE IMMEDIATE SOLUTION THEREFORE IS TO EMBARK INTO A MASSIVE WATER WELL EXPLORATION AND DRILLING.

7. Change the corporate orientation of MIWD to vigorously pursue exploration and drilling for water wells from Oton to Pavia up to Sta. Barbara. This will require investment of about P5 million per well installed and connected to existing MIWD lines. From the hydro-geology point of view, a gallery of 60 water wells up to 500 ft. deep can be drilled without depleting the underground water reserve and causing sea water intrusion. Drilling can be programmed at 8 new wells per year to stagger the investment thereby reducing the financial burden of MIWD.

8. Replace members of the MIWD Board especially the old ones who have outlived their usefulness and have become redundant. Invigorate the Board with new members who are young and successful businessmen/engineers who are willing to take the calculated risk of investing in water exploration work.

9. The recent two water wells in Pavia which this writer had encouraged MIWD to drill and had supervised as the hydro-geologist consultant of the Municipality of Pavia produces a very clean and potable water good for 800 and 1,400 households, respectively. At an average of seven per households, the two new wells can supply water to 15,000 persons! Capacity of these two wells could have increased had the LWUA/MIWD drilling outfit drilled deeper up to 120 meters instead of stopping at only 50-meter depth due to dilapidated drilling equipment, insufficient funding and a very conservative (“sigurista”) exploration attitude.

Lower rates for PECO consumers starting Dec. 15

Panay Electric Company (Peco) will be reducing its electricity rate starting December 15 this year. But Engr. Randy Pastolero of PECO, which supplies power to Iloilo City, declined to state how much the reduction will be, saying it would depend on how much power supplier Panay Power Corporation will bill them on December 10.

At present, PPC's generation charge is at P9.23. But definitely, there will be a reduction, he stressed. Another reduction is set on January next year to reflect the downward trend in the global oil prices, he assured.

"Our consumers will observe in their bill for December 2008 that there was a reduction in the generation charges," Pastolero said.

PPC bills PECO every tenth day of the month for the power purchased the previous month. So by that time, we will already know how much to reduce from our charges, he added.

At P13.80 for every kilowatt-hour, Peco's power rates are considered the highest in the country.

However, PECO consumers will not be enjoying fully the drop in the prices of fuel. Earlier, Pastolero said that PECO still has to recover P1.30 for every kilowatt/hour.

He explained that because oil prices rose sharply from August to September this year, PECO's bill with PPC was P1.30 per kilowatt/hour higher. But the increase was not immediately passed on to the consumers, Pastolero said.

Likewise, PECO deferred payment on the excess amount.

Now that oil prices are falling, PPC gave us four months within which to pay, Pastolero said, adding that the under recoveries will be distributed evenly over a four month period starting this month.

Iloilo City needs P500T for int’l traffic signs

ILOILO CITY, Dec. 3 - The City Government needs P500,000 to install international traffic signs in an effort to address the perennial traffic congestion in the metropolis.

Councilor Erwin Plagata, who chairs the committee on transportation, said the traffic management’s Technical Working Group (TWG) requires such fund for signages, floor markings and printing of PUJ car passes to better regulate heavy traffic in the city’s main streets.

“The PUJ car passes should be renewed after six months. This is because only after two months from the issuance, we have apprehended several jeepney drivers who faked the car passes. We have recommended the filing of cases against 40 violators,” he said.

The car passes are issued to provincial jeepneys to limit their entry into the city’s busy thoroughfares to lessen the volume of vehicular traffic.

The City Council recently approved P100,000 fund for TWG included in the P73-million supplemental budget.

Plagata said the amount is only good for 30 international traffic signs even as the city requires 600 to 700 traffic signs.

“The traffic signs have advertisements as donated by the business sector and are not of international standard. We have convinced the mayor to allocate funds because it’s tiring to always ask from donors,” said Plagata.

He explained, “The traffic signs that we have now cannot be understood by outsiders. We have to use the guides from the International Booklet on Traffic Signs”.

Plagata said the increase in traffic penalties has generated an income of P1 million a month compared to P300,000 a month before.

He said the revenues coming from traffic fines could be used for a sustainable program on traffic management.(PNA)

ILOILO CITY, Dec. 4 -– A total of 287 barangays from eight municipalities of Iloilo and Capiz are recipients of the multi-million worth of projects ranging from roads, bridges, school buildings and health and day care centers under the Makamasang Tugon Program.

Juan Cicero Aguilar, community process specialist of the Kapitbisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) national project management office, said recipients were chosen from among the 67 municipalities that also availed of projects under the Phase 1 and 2 of the KALAHI-CIDSS.

“DSWD and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) are now collaborating in an effort to essentially try to improve governance system on poverty reduction,” he explained.

Aguilar added that they are pushing that the local development process of recipient LGUs will be more responsive to poverty situation.

“LGUs are in the better position to program its own resources so that it addresses identified by the community in a more systematic way,” he added.

The DSWD will be providing funds as high as a few million pesos for roads and bridges or as low as P200,000 to P300,000 for schoolbuildings and daycare and health centers, according to Aguilar.

The recipient LGUs as their counterpart will shoulder the mobilization fund that will be used for their staff, barangay assemblies, researches and data analysis.

They are also expected to implement the project using the KALAHI-CIDSS approach.

The projects will be implemented simultaneously before the end of the year and are expected to be completed in June next year.

The recipient barangays include 34 from Ajuy; 60, Janiuay; 26, Barotac Viejo; 25, Concepcion; 33 Carles and 29, San Dionisio all from the province of Iloilo.

A total of 30 barangays will come from Jamindan in Capiz. (PNA)

ILOILO CITY-- Isa lamang ang wish ni Mayor Jerry Treñas sa iya pagsaulog sang kaadlawan subong nga adlaw, nga gusto sini mahatagan sang katumanan.

Handum sang alkalde nga antes man lang matapos ang termino sini bilang mayor sang siyudad sa Hunyo 2010, masuguran na tukod ang Iloilo City Hall building.

Suno sa alkalde, bisan simple lang ang city hall, importante nga wala nagalapta-lapta ang mga talatapan sang city government, kag mahapos para sa mga pumuluyo sang siyudad.

Ginpasiguro naman ni Mayor Treñas ang pagpakig-angot sa Iloilo City Council agud mapadali ang pagtukod sang city hall.

Sa pihak nga bahin, nagtukod si Mayor Treñas sang isa ka grupo nga amo ang magapakig-angot sa Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD), agud mapasiguro nga may bastante nga supply sang tubig sa siyudad sang Iloilo subong nga Paskwa.

Ang nasambit nga grupo ang ginapamunuan ni Engineer Noel Hechanova sang City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).

Nahibaluan nga madamo karon sang kabarangayan sa siyudad ang ginakulang sang supply sang tubig, kasunod sang pagkaguba sang pipeline sang MIWD sa Maasin, matapos nga nagbaha bangod sang bagyo Frank.

Magluwas sini, padayon pa ang pagpaninlo sang MIWD sa mga tubo sini, bangod sang lay-on nga nagsupon, tuga sang baha

Iloilo Ranks 3RD Among Preferred Bpo Locations in Philippines

ILOILO CITY, Dec 4 Asia Pulse - Iloilo City is now ranked third in the 2008 next wave cities scorecard of the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT).

The city jumped two notches higher after it only ranked fifth in the 2007 Top 10 Next Wave Cities.

Iloilo City executive assistant for economic promotions and investments Ma. Gracia Chua received the recognition in a ceremony held in Manila Wednesday.

Chua said the city got an over-all score of 88.35 percent, likewise obtaining the highest score in availability of talents at 89.20 percent.

The cities of Laguna and Cavite grabbed the first and second ranks, respectively.

Mayor Jerry P. Treas expressed optimism that the award together with several improvements going on in terms of infrastructure would surely bring in more investments.

Treas admitted that Iloilo lacks infrastructure but there are already several buildings here working to secure an accreditation from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

At present, two movie houses of the Robinsons Place are already PEZA accredited and also the SM City.

Gaisano City is also applying for the said accreditation.

Once all these buildings are in place we can get investors, he said.

Meanwhile, aside from the BPAP recognition, the mayor was also informed by the management of the Teletech that Iloilo City is number two in terms of customer satisfaction during their global customer satisfaction survey.

The survey was conducted among Teletech business sites in the Philippines and abroad.

DOF, World Bank-assisted computerization project launched in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY, Dec. 5 – Iloilo City promises an improved quality of life for its residents brought about by increased revenues and investments as it embraced a project that will make business processing faster and real property tax collection even more efficient.

This was the message relayed by World Bank Portfolio Manager Maryse Gautier during the inauguration of the city computerization program that was assisted by the World Bank and the Department of Finance (DOF) Friday afternoon.

The project has two components namely the Real Property Tax Administration System (RPTAS) that covers appraisal and assessment and land tax payment and collection and the Business Permit License Tax Administration System (BPLTAS) which includes business tax, regulatory fees, charges assessment, business permit application and payment and collection.

Gautier said the project will bring in additional value to Iloilo City by giving it more sustainability in resources.

“Thanks to this computerization you will be able to increase your taxes and cover the costs of this computerization in less than one year,” she said. “I think this is an excellent example that we would like other local government in the country to be aware of.”

The project is worth P11.939 million but 50 percent was shouldered by the World Bank.

A total of 30 computers were installed equipped with printers and nodes.

The installation of the project and encoding of data took only about three and a half months to complete. To date under the BPLTAS, a total of 20,432 businesses operating in the city have been encoded; 3,587 are new businesses, 16,822 are renewed and 23 have already closed.

Under the 2008 RPTA records, around 498,473 were transferred into the computer and 153,211 were already cleansed records.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, meanwhile said that "the full completion of the computerization of important documents signaled that we are more than ready to face the unstoppable growth of Iloilo City."

“With the world moving rapidly and inexorably to a high-tech future where lifestyles and economics will be largely influenced by information technology, the Ilonggos cannot afford to lag behind. If we aspire for global competitiveness and progress, we simply must keep up with the technological strides of other cities and nations and ride the wave of progress,” he said.

Friday's inauguration was also graced by National Treasurer, Undersecretary Roberto B. Tan, Presentacion Montesa of the Bureau of Local Government and Finance in Western Visayas and other World Bank representatives. (PNA)

Iloilo Ranks 3RD Among Preferred Bpo Locations in Philippines

ILOILO CITY, Dec 4 Asia Pulse - Iloilo City is now ranked third in the 2008 next wave cities scorecard of the Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT).
The city jumped two notches higher after it only ranked fifth in the 2007 Top 10 Next Wave Cities.

Iloilo City executive assistant for economic promotions and investments Ma. Gracia Chua received the recognition in a ceremony held in Manila Wednesday.

Chua said the city got an over-all score of 88.35 percent, likewise obtaining the highest score in availability of talents at 89.20 percent.

The cities of Laguna and Cavite grabbed the first and second ranks, respectively.

Mayor Jerry P. Treas expressed optimism that the award together with several improvements going on in terms of infrastructure would surely bring in more investments. ADVERTISEMENT

Treas admitted that Iloilo lacks infrastructure but there are already several buildings here working to secure an accreditation from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

At present, two movie houses of the Robinsons Place are already PEZA accredited and also the SM City.

Gaisano City is also applying for the said accreditation.

Once all these buildings are in place we can get investors, he said.

Meanwhile, aside from the BPAP recognition, the mayor was also informed by the management of the Teletech that Iloilo City is number two in terms of customer satisfaction during their global customer satisfaction survey.

The survey was conducted among Teletech business sites in the Philippines and abroad.

Iloilo in top 10 list of best BPO sites

ILOILO City has made it to the recent list of the Philippines Top 10 next wave cities best outsourcing sites, following closely to Metro Laguna and Metro Cavite.

A report jointly developed by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) showed that the next wave cities are capable in providing information to investors and stakeholders in locations across the Philippines, other than Metro Manila and Metro Cebu.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is elated with the recent report showing Iloilo City's potential that amplified its bid as the next important business haven and BPO center not only in the Visayas but also throughout the country.

Aside from Iloilo, which ranked third, the cities of Davao, Bacolod, Angeles-Clark-Mabalacat area, Baliuag-Marilao-Meycauayan area, Cagayan de Oro, Malolos-Calumpit area and Lipa also got the recognition.

With expansion beyond Metro Manila and Cebu, the scorecard of next wave cities covers cost and business environment.

Cities are scored for the quality of their roads, access to international and domestic flights, presence of hotels, presence of fiber optic providers, cost of labor, office space, power rates and reliability of power supply, vulnerability to natural disturbances, crime rates, presence of Peza sites and ICT councils.

Iloilo also bested other cities in the country in the TeleTech best sites throughout the world. TeleTech cited Iloilo as the second most important site out of the six TeleTech sites in the world, including the United States, Canada, South Africa, Argentina and Pampanga, Philippines.

Treñas said that TeleTech, with offices at the third level of SM City Iloilo, is happy with the quality of students Iloilo produced annually in several universities and colleges that eventually become a pool of prospective quality call center agents.

TeleTech, currently considered as the fastest growing BPO, is set to promote more than 60 of its Filipino personnel to managerial level to be posted in different countries. The company is also recruiting call center agents from the ranks of local students and professionals to fill in the gap of promoted personnel.

I think Sen. Drilon ang may pinakadamo hinimuan diri sa aton. He's really a good statesman. He is principled and doesn't have to make sipsip sa Presidente. That's why bad blood sila ni GMA subong. Despite that, damo sya naaccomplish bilang senate president.

- expansion of Iloilo Port San Pedro port and terminal.

Air transportation in iloilo in the 1930s

Bridging the Gap

Iloilo in the 1920s and the 1930s was considered as the "Queen City of Southern Philippines". Aside from its reputation as the commercial entrepot and cultural capital of the Visayas, Iloilo also pride itself at that time as the home of the most modern transportation facilities, both in land and water. But other than this is the fact that Iloilo was also claimed to be the cradle of modern air transportation in the Philippines. No doubt, the availability of comfortable and convenient means of transportation contributed much to Iloilo's prominence.

The Ilonggos were among the first to become "air conscious" and to travel in style. This is due to the fact that Iloilo City was reputed to be the birthplace of Filipino enterprise in commercial transportation. The Philippines' first passenger air service between Iloilo and Bacolod was operated by Jose Tinsay, an Ilonggo, in 1925 (David 1937; Angayen 1985).

Few years later, to serve the growing demand for fast and convenient means of travel by the affluent Ilonggos in both Panay and Negros Occidental for business and other purposes, the Iloilo-Negros Air Express Co., Inc. (INAEC) was founded in 1932. The INAEC, organized under the initiative of the Lopez brothers—Eugenio and Fernando—was considered as the boldest bid ever made in the Philippines for public support of regular commercial aviation (David 1937). Its initial routes were Iloilo to Bacolod and back. The inauguration of the company's Iloilo-Manila service in February 3, 1933 with a big Stinson tri-motored ten-passenger cabin airliner was a milestone in the country's modern transportation system. Other than the Iloilo-Manila route and vice-versa, INAEC also maintained regular service between Iloilo and Bacolod and added in its itinerary other places like Cebu, Del Monte and Davao.

In the 1930s, INAEC's fare from Iloilo to Bacolod or Bacolod to Iloilo was P5.00. It must be noted, however, that P5.00 at that time could buy one sack of first class rice, or a terno of Manchester drill, or five pieces of polo shirts or kamisadentro (Angayen 1985).

Tinsay, who was already airlifting passengers from Iloilo to Bacolod and back aboard his Curtiss Oriole biplane, became part of INAEC's pool of pilots.

The purchase by the company of the amphibian airliner Sikorsky S-43 in February of 1937 had greatly enhanced travel in Western Visayas, affording speed and comfort. The Sikorsky S-43, considered to be the most modern and INAEC's mainliner, which had cost the company over P260,000 had a cruising speed of 170 mph and can fly 200 mph, if necessary. It offered both the DeLuxe Skylounge and the commodius 15 deep cushioned easy chairs in an 18-passenger type cabin plane. With the ability to depart or alight via land or water, it greatly reduced travel between Manila and Iloilo to 1 hour and 45 minutes. It was equipped with radio instruments, facilitating communication with the radio stations at the different airports. The Sikorsky S-43 was hailed as the "nation's largest, most powerful, most luxurious airplane" (Santos 1976).

INAEC's central office was located at 20 Ortiz St., Iloilo City and its Manila office at 523 Dasmariñas, Cavite (David 1937). Its airstrip was found at the reclaimed area behind Fort San Pedro in Iloilo City in what was formerly called Tap-uk.

lacks of infrastructure? kaya ni sng mga bigtime nga mga ilonggo mg pa tindog I.T. building like Lopezes,Montinola,Drillon,De la Rama,Araneta,Florete,Sarabia,Uy Gongco,Montelibano etc... kng mg buligay lng ni sila dmu guro mpatindog nila nga I.T. buildings. why wait for Ayala and Megaworld? kng san o pa na ya sila mpatindog da building. the time is now!:bash:

bal-an mo migs may pagka conservative ni ang iban nga mga ilonggo businessmen... what i mean is, kung feeling nila nga alang alang or indi sila sure sa isa ka business, they would rather not dip their foot into it, but instead invest further in the businesses they're familiar with. like sa mga lopezes ara ang concentration nila sa media and energy business, although ga diversify man sila sa real estate. kag mind you, that biskan ilonggo sila, they're still businessmen... kung diin ang market, they would go there. so ang focus ara man gyapon sa manila. pero, eventually they would come back man gyapon sa iloilo, like what the gokongweis are doing in cebu...
