^^ I'm really worried about the safety of the miners. Accidents always happen a lot in mines, much more from a third world mine (no offense). Let's just hope they be safe.

Another thing is that the land they'll use might be agricultural. For me, why give our land to foreigners (Koreans) when we couldn't even give them to our own people.

The government should look more into this issue (if ever the company would really push through) but if all things go green, then I'm good. So far, I don't know how mining can damage the environment when the one I've seen in Balatoc isn't really that damaging. Just my 2 cents. Hopefully someone would enlighten us.

^^ I've seen one in Marcopper in Marinduque...Safety of the miners...well, there would always be risks in every job as what they say...

But I hope we won't be another Diwalwal...its pretty dangerous as you could see.

Regarding Koreans taking over...then that is something that we have to ask the Charter (Constitution) which the lawmakers in Bastusang (a este Batasan) Pambansa are very very eager to change. The sovereignty is a very sensitive issue that lawmakers should consider because it either become a ground for colonization.

for me the environmental issue is secondary... my primary concern is, who will really benefit from this mining industry? would we really benefit from it, or it's just plain surrendering our mineral wealth to foreign corporations, since we dont have the means to extract these resources? will the filipinos really get a fair and equal share from these multinational corporations? because, honestly? i really doubt it. :ohno:

Hello Guys!

I would like to suggest if we can make a poll thread about Sec. Gonzales plan to run for Iloilo City Mayor.
We would like to see and be heard kung ano ang gusto sang mga tawo.

Berns,
Pwede ka makaobra? :)

People are always cynical about who really will benefit from this mining investment in our country considering the investors are mostly foreign companies... If it is a local firm, I'm sure it will benefit mostly the Filipino people...

We've heard negative news concerning the mining activities in our country... Most of these are the impact to our environment and our health... We cannot blame why many people would disagree with this project since the impact is outrageous and only few benefit from it...:ohno:

Hope Raul Gonzales would not win as city mayor this coming election in order to see a steady growth for our local economy... But if he'll win, just fasten your seatbelt Ilonggos, and be ready for a roller coaster ride...:ohno::ohno::ohno:

I think even now its already Gonzales-ian era. Remember that JPT and Gonzales are allies...It's just this old man is really...ambot na lang!

But anyway, I read Panay News' Lapsus Calami and it really makes me think where does Raul gets his money to pay for his "minions" (or barangay captains) that he pays for almost everyday which IMO his strength among everything else in Iloilo...Hmmmmm.... :sly:

But again, will Iloilo be another Padaca-Panlilio locality or just like any other Philippine city? Three years seems to be quite a long time but one thing about it though, it seems that most of JPT's projects are supported by Gonzales himself...at least that's a bit of assurance. It's just the overpasses are very annoying! If he can do such things, could he be the one who will proceed the Iloilo City Hall? Although he may be shrewed but he seems to have the political will to do whatever he wants...but I hope it'll be for the betterment and not for the worse...

But what I'm worried of is that the established competency in local government with regard of transperancy and management may be tainted...but again, there are always risks whenever we decide.

Well, I'm just hoping that whatever JPT did to the city would be carried over to whoever the next administration would be. Because one thing I really do not like about Philippine politics is that there seems to be no sense of continuity. Just look at Manila right now and the physical changes between Atienza and Lim.

And besides, the king himself is old. He may not last a full 9 years in the local government.

@Lewd.

I've already invited some of them to come here and read our views about Iloilo...I don't think its necessary to create a new thread just for the sole purpose of politics. It may not even last as Skyscrapercity itself is not a political forum but more on urbanity and urban lifestyles and policies and not more on urban politics. "Balanced News, Fearless Views" as according to Inquirer, hehe! :D

^^ Well said, Bernie Boy. It is only reasonable that some people would hate former Tanodbayan, former Ninoy defender, Raul Gonzalez - if only for his perceived frankness and "tactlessness". That tactlessness did not endear him to the national media. And in this country, a lot of people believe in the "media", hook, line and sinker.

Iloilo tabloids are a different matter altogether - they are run by individual interests.

I think the floodway's slope will really be mostly grass. Vetiver grass. Its roots grow 2-4 m downward so it's usually used for erosion control. I hope this works!

Cebu to corner a third of SM bond sale proceeds

CEBU CITY — Nearly a third of the P10-billion proceeds from the retail bond debut of Sy-controlled SM Investments Corp. will go to projects in Cebu.

Radisson Hotel Cebu, which will have a "soft" opening in October and fully operate in December, will get P2.5 billion while the planned SMX Convention Center Cebu will get P400 million to P500 million. A boutique hotel for travellers, one among 15 planned throughout the country, will also be put up near the SM mall here, said Jose T. Sio, SM Investments executive vice-president and chief financial officer.

Mr. Sio said a total of P2 billion would be allotted for the construction of these budget hotels over the next 10 years. The first will be built starting late this year in Bacolod, where he said "there’s a need for a good, small hotel for travellers." Aside from those in Cebu and Bacolod, budget hotels will also be built next to SM malls in Iloilo, Baguio and Naga, among others.

The convention center project near the existing SM City Cebu mall and Radisson Hotel Cebu is in the design stage. Construction is expected to start next year, with the center opening in 2011.

Other projects that will be financed by the bond issue are the Two E-Com Center, a sports arena, a Radisson Hotel as well as the expansion of the SMX Convention Center, all within the Mall of Asia complex in Pasay.

Eduardo V. Francisco, president of BDO Capital and Investments Corp., said demand for both the five-year and seven-year fixed-rate domestic retail bonds has been very strong.

"Demand is very strong so that it is no longer a question of whether we can raise P5 billion, but whether it’s going to be P9 billion or P10 billion," he said.

The Securities and Exchange Commission had approved a P5-billion fixed-rate bond issue, with an option to sell P5 billion more in case of oversubscription. Pricing will be set today and the bonds will be offered from June 8 to June 18, or eight business days.

This is the first retail bond issue of SM Investments, the listed holding company of the SM group with businesses in retail merchandising, mall operations, banking and finance, property development, and hotel and entertainment.

Meanwhile, SM Hotels expects a soft opening of the Radisson Hotel here in October. Radisson is the upscale full-service brand of Carlson Hotels Worldwide.

Marissa Fernan, SM vice-president for marketing in Visayas and Mindanao, said in a separate interview that key personnel led by general manager Grant J. Gaskin, a former managing director of the Radisson in Shanghai, have been appointed. Except for Mr. Gaskin, other key personnel are Filipinos.

Management is starting to interview local suppliers, she added. Homemade furniture will be used to furnish the hotel, providing Cebu’s beleaguered furniture industry a boost.

"Having Radisson here is a good thing for our furniture industry," Ms. Fernan said.

Radisson Cebu, which is positioned as an upscale business hotel, will have 400 rooms, a huge convention hall and the biggest Chinese restaurant in Cebu, Mr. Sio said. — Marites S. Villamor

Gani man... Always busy pa na dira bi nga street... Calling the City Government of Iloilo to take action...
Actually, not so long ago there is a street marking up there...and I think it was rubberized...but because of Frank last year and the constant come and go of the vehicles...it faded away.

Anyway...I would prefer to have it with a new batch of fresh asphalt coming from the tax that we pay, hehe! :D

I remember the SMS of Mayor JPT once: "Kon indi lang ko gani mayor, basi mahibi man ako." The devastation which taken Ilonggos by surprise was life changing.

But I am impressed, with the amount of devastation not seen in the recent history of Iloilo, it has risen up and gearing up to become even more...

It's really a comparison between Iloilo and Ormoc...rising from the muck or mud and becoming even more.

Floods wash away the old and start with a new and better beginning. :)

i dont wanna sound conservative here, but of all development issues posted here, i strongly disagree with the planned mining... it's sure money ok, no question about that, but who's gonna pay the toll??? first, the residents nearby, then the miners whose lives will be at risk, the environment and sooner, the province's bid as a tourism haven... environmental destruction is inevitable in mining... at any perspectives we try to look at it, one way or another, mother nature will always turn out loser in mining... we've seen mines in different parts of the country, it can't be that iloilo's case is special and different... it CAN'T be! if we hadn't learned our lessons from typhoon frank yet, that was even without mining around as yet!

It is ironic that in our country, if we see politicians in their luxuries, we admire them, and envy their lifestyle... Instead of condemning their actions... We never think that the money spent for their lavish lifestyle came from our pocket... They enjoy while, we suffer... Hope Filipino voters are going to mature... I think it's in the constitution mismo that there should be no political dynasties. The problem is there is another statement saying everyone has the right to run for public office. IMO, I don't have problems with political families, only those that impose their name too much on the voters.

Investors are particular with services and infrastructures a place can offer before they pour in their business... If our province doesn't have enough infrastructures to offer, how can we attract investors to invest here...

Now I'm thinking...what will happen this September here in Manila? Because the local businessmen will be launching Iloilo once more through another Investor's Forum sometime this year...

Remember they were planning to shelve the construction of Iloilo plant at Concepcion? Here's an update of DMCI.

------------------------------------------------------------
DMCI to scale down Panay power plant

DMCI Power Corp., the power generation arm of the Consunji Group, will pursue the construction of its planned coal-fired power facility in Visayas, but with a lower capacity.

Nestor Dadivas, president of DMCI Power, said they would reduce the size of the company's proposed coal-fired plant to 60 megawatts (MW) from 100 MW because of the low volume required by electric cooperatives.

"We're talking to our (equipment) supplier for possible downscaling. We continue to negotiate with the cooperatives. We are not withdrawing from the Panay market," Dadivas said.

DMCI was eyeing to build a 100-MW coal-fired plant in Conception, Iloilo on Panay Island at a cost of P7 billion.

Earlier, the company disclosed the possibility of shelving the project due to its inability to close supply agreements with power buyers.

The cooperatives under the Panay-Guimaras Power Consortium were only offering to purchase around 36 MW from DMCI's coal power plant and will source bulk of their 90 MW requirement from renewable energy sources.

"The ball is in their court since they have our proposal," Dadivas said.

Meanwhile, Dadivas said DMCI is no longer seeking a partner for the 60-MW coal-fired plant and may undertake the project alone.

But he said that the company which earlier expressed its interest to participate remains keen.

"To date, (our partner) is still interested," he noted.

DMCI Power is a unit of DMCI Holdings Inc., a publicly listed holding firm with interests in general construction, construction business-generating investments and construction-related businesses.

I find it weird...I've seen cities being redistricted despite not meeting the standards of the population in Metro Manila...obviously its from Dan Cartagena, one of those who oppose the redistricting....:D

But if it wouldn't push through then I think we'll have to wait till the next Census of the Philippines and a person with a political will to push the redistricting forward.

But anyway, we really couldn't avoid to see the political colour of this move from the local leaders themselves...

THE Senate is not keen on pushing through with the proposed creation of a second legislative district in Iloilo City, according to the main oppositor to the redistricting measure.

Atty. Daniel Cartagena said Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, chair of the Senate committee on local governments, finds the measure a waste of time and resources.

Citing his conversation with Aquino last week, Cartagena said the senator finds it hard to defend the measure if Iloilo City cannot meet the population requirement for the creation of legislative districts.

“Sen. Aquino said he can schedule the public hearing on the redistricting bill when Congress returns from recess in July. The hearing can also be scheduled next year. But the senator said they will only waste their time if the city cannot meet the prerequisites,” Cartagena said.

Cartagena said Aquino told him that even if the redistricting bill passes the committee level, other senators might question the city’s lack of population requirement during plenary.

“It would be hard for Senator Aquino to defend his committee report when it is presented to the plenary,” he added.

The 1986 Constitution stipulates that each legislative district must have at least 250,000 population.

According to the 2008 census, Iloilo City’s population is 418,710 only, thus it cannot qualify for a second congressional district.

The main proponent of the redistricting measure is Iloilo City lone district Rep. Raul Gonzalez Jr.

Gonzalez is the proponent of House Bill 3672 seeking for the creation of the second legislative district in Iloilo City.

The first district will be composed of Jaro, Mandurriao and LaPaz while the second district is comprised of Arevalo, Molo and Iloilo City proper.

The House has approved HB 3672 and consequently passed House Resolution No. 4256 calling for the redistricting of the city.

STILL ALIVE

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Department of Justice Raul Gonzalez Sr. said the redistricting bill is still alive.

“The bill was caught in conflict between Senators Aquino and Joker Arroyo over the increase in House membership and redistricting. The senators have no reason not to pass the bill. I am still hopeful that Congress will pass the measure,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said the Senate must pass the redistricting bill between August and November 2009 to beat the deadline for the filing of certificates of candidacy.

Rep. Gonzalez said he will run for his last three-year term next year if the redistricting bill does not push through.

PTCA PRESIDENT

The creation of the second congressional district in Iloilo City is seen as a way to avoid a confrontation between Mayor Jerry Treñas, who is currently serving his last three-year term, and the Gonzalezes. Treñas, who is a lawyer by profession, said he is willing to return to private practice.

“There are other ways to do public service aside from politics,” the mayor said.

Treñas said he can also opt to run for president of the Parent Teachers Community Association.

I know about the ones in Mina and another area...but I'm just curious where will they get their energy sources since if we site Leyte...its like going to NPC...if it is in Negros, we still dunno.

The largest untapped renewable energy source in the Visayas so far would be geothermal...and I haven't seen any developments regarding the sustainment of 90MW from renewable energy sources except for those bio-mass power plants which IMO would be insufficient for it to power at least the needed amount of energy as of the moment.

So the question is where?

If Iloilo City is still a single congressional district, I'm sure Gonzales Jr. will lose his chance to win as congressman this coming election because I'm certain Trenas will run for that position...

so, may future SM Hotel na ang iloilo.

Villamor

basi ga hulat hulat pa malukpan pre... hahaha.

i dont wanna sound conservative here, but of all development issues posted here, i strongly disagree with the planned mining... it's sure money ok, no question about that, but who's gonna pay the toll??? first, the residents nearby, then the miners whose lives will be at risk, the environment and sooner, the province's bid as a tourism haven... environmental destruction is inevitable in mining... at any perspectives we try to look at it, one way or another, mother nature will always turn out loser in mining... we've seen mines in different parts of the country, it can't be that iloilo's case is special and different... it CAN'T be! if we hadn't learned our lessons from typhoon frank yet, that was even without mining around as yet!

i stand with you... no to mining. :ohno:

There's another one beside Atrium. Due to the similarities of the Moostbrand building with the Atrium building, are the owners the same or maybe coincidences?

i think daw 2 or 3 na ang ila nga branches sa iloilo bla mo...

If the owners doesn't want to vacate, bulldoze the place. I'm sure they don't want to be the next Pirates Restobar.

better to downscale, than to scuttle the whole project... and besides, even if matapos ang power plant sa la paz, it could only augment the power of panay and the visayas until 2012... after that, there will be power deficiencies again. biskan mag 60 MW lang, dako na na nga bulig sa panay, especially sa power situation after 2012. and i believe, due to the rapid development of the MIGEDC component areas and of the rest of panay, we would still need DMCI's powerplant in the years to come... DMCI is actually not on the losing end here... it seems that, they just wanted to have an early "return of investments."

my hunch is, they're going to downscale the power plant... but with a capacity for expansion once the need arises. :)

this is what im looking forward, berns... with a more stable power supply in the future, the province and the city is in a better leverage to invite more investors to come to the city. at least subong ya, may ara na sang powerplant that is scheduled to operate by next year. and together with the projected reduction of power rates, these factors will certainly boost investors' confidence on iloilo's economy.

kung ang purpose to redistrict the city is for the benefit of the people, wala guid tani problema... pero, if they're going to redistrict the city for the political convenience of some people, then i think this would be a problem.

two districts would mean more pork and consequently more projects and infrastructures. that's the brighter side of the argument. on the other side of the coin, more pork would further breed more corruption and greed. and with the present political climate of the country, i really dont trust most of our politicians, whether in the national or local setting. judge them yourselves. hehehe. :colgate:

That's why I'm intrigued. Given the current situation of Panay, where will the electric cooperatives take the rest of 90MW (does not include PECO) from "renewable sources" in 2-3 years time?

Country Cooking:Write about ‘biskwit,’ win a prize
By Micky Fenix (Philippine Daily Inquirer) (http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/lifestyle/lifestyle/view/20090603-208651/Write-about-biskwit-win-a-prize)

BELGIAN lace cookies, chocolate chips, Ginang Bukid cookies (the Mrs. Fields brand name translated into Tagalog) – these are what can be found in bakeshops, groceries and weekend markets.

But those aren’t what can be written about in this year’s Doreen Gamboa Fernandez (DGF) Food Writing Contest, which has “biskwit” as the subject matter.

“Biskwit” is the local word for “biscuit” or “cookies.” There are so many kinds, but the writing competition is only for those that have been around for at least 50 years.

There aren’t that many, given that criterion. A regular at food shows is the uraro or araro, the generic name for cookies made of arrowroot. Some of these white pieces are very plain, while others have more elaborate décor using molds like flowers.

Some biskwit are molded in the likeness of saints, like the Pan San Nicolas. It was originally made with uraro, but these days, all-purpose flour mixed with cornstarch is used.

The San Nicolas cookie marks the feast of San Nicolas Tolentino, whose feast day is September 10. These cookies are brought to the church and then given especially to children who are sick. Nowadays, the Pan San Nicolas can be bought any day, especially in Pampanga, where it is said to have originated.

Research

Winning the writing contest involves more than just stating what the cookie is made of or how it is made. A bit of research should help put more flesh to your essay.

For instance, Felice Sta. Maria wrote in “The Governor-General’s Kitchen” (“Saints in the Kitchen”) that “if the household had an oven, St. Nicolas Tolentino could make tortes and biscuits taste especially delicious with just a prayer or two. Actually, Filipinos bequeathed their patronage to the wrong Nicolas. The traditional Catholic patron of bakers is Nicolas of Myra, the inspiration for Santa Claus, and a man whose existence is now questioned. Both Nicolases are portrayed carrying bread buns.”

Fernandez in her book “Tikim” (“A Town Bejewelled: Philippine Food Art”) wrote about the cookies of the Virgin of Turumba, otherwise known as the Our Lady of Sorrows, the patron saint of Pakil town in Laguna.

She described the cookies as “lattice-work...shaped like the image of the Virgin complete with crown and the rays Tagalogs call potensiya (potency or power).”

Sometimes, cookies are shaped like fruits, like the camachile of Malabon, which is paired with local pancit (called pancit palabok in other places). My sister-in-law, who is from Malabon, told me the sauce of the pancit is thickened and enriched with the crumbs of another biscuit, the biscocho.

Biscocho is like leftover cake that has been toasted. It’s one of my favorite cookies. Another one is the jacobina, square biscuits that remind me of childhood merienda. My sisters and I would eat each piece by biting on the outermost layer, separating each layer from the main cookie, and thus prolonging our joy of eating.

My sisters and I also loved the pacencia, not only because they were meringue-like cookies but also because they served as our “holy hosts” when we wanted to play “Mass.” Small and airy, they melted in our mouths the way real hosts are supposed to.

Best place

Perhaps the best place in the country to research and write about cookies is Iloilo. Many Ilonggo businesses are devoted to baking, with cookies as the star product.

Hojaldres being shaped at the Panaderia de Molo

Consider the Panaderia de Molo with its old wood fire oven and baking recipes that are over a hundred years old. Its signature treats are sugar-coated bañadas and the thin whirls of hojaldres.

There’s the barquillos at Ocampo’s, :bash::lol: where the batter is placed on hot plates then wrapped around steel rods, by skilled workers who are paid by the piece.

The DGF Food Writing Award deadline is August 31. The essay should be at least 800 words, printed out with a copy saved on CD. Write your pen name on the essay, but enclose an envelope with your pen name and real name, your address and contact numbers. Send to the Doreen Gamboa Fernandez Food Writing Award Committee, c/o Prism, 5/F, PDAF Bldg., Sen. Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City 1200.

i admire the gonzales of the martial law years... i just don't know why the change of color and principles. :bash:

it's either that politics changed him or it revealed his true nature. either way, in politics, most--if not all--has no permanent alliances. they only have permanent interests. this brings to mind the persistent behavioural pattern of the ruling political class in this country.

in many ways, we really have no political party in the true sense of the word. what we have is more of political alliances that exist only for election. after the election, many of them go "ppffftt" and their participants would wait for another nearing of the next election and then create another set of alliances that depends on the winnability of such political arrangements.

unlike in politically mature nations like the US, once you're a democrat, chances are, you're a democrat for life. their political organizations there exist not only for and during elections but they exist for many time-honored political platforms.

Politics in Philippines is already a business... It's the road to richest to some individual with political aspiration in the future...

Our country needs an honest and hardworking leaders to restore democracy in our mother land...

we are also at fault here. why do we keep on putting these people in a place where they're ina position to plunder the nation? a nation does deserve its leaders. and it shows!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
‘Redistricting bid hopeless’
By Francis Allan L. Angelo | The Daily Guardian

^^the City also has a very small land area, what if it adds Oton or Pavia to the city. They should study this and do it in the next congress/admin.

habagatcentral1
June 7th, 2009, 08:06 AM
^^ I doubt Oton and Pavia would let go of their sovereignty. The trend nowadays in politics is to get more localized, hence be independent from one another, hehe! :colgate: Thus the kingdom of Jaro and kingdom of Molo has been keen to divide united Iloilo into 2 districts, hehe! :D

But I was mentioning before, there are cities in Metro Manila that lacks the population requirement but had it divided into 2 or more...

Regarding sa caption...tuod lang, kadlaw ko katama to... Obvious man nga mayab-ok ang surroundings kay earthwork man ina, ti you have to deal with it anay antes nga ma-sementohan na. What more pa sa amon subong sa Pavia kay grabe yab-ok bisan diin coz of the flood control project.

Antos anay, maga-agi man ang ginhawa madason.

Regarding Megaworld. There are things that they may be considering:

Power stability - They may be waiting for the augmentation and reliable power source. Probably upon completion of the power plant in Ingore.
Global Recession - They are also eyeing on the economic situation that we are now encountering.
Possible clients - Along with the first 2 factors mentioned, they may be waiting for possible clients who will occupy the said property.

Well, those are just my theories. :D

Hoping When it is finished, the city government will maintain and preserve the beauty of the place, and it will not become a haven of drug addiction and prostitution...

First, Power Stability - It is very important in business... Energy is the food for every business without electricity, I'm sure they cannot survive... It is another reason why China is growing because the country has efficient power supply...

Second, Global recession - It is definitely another reason for the delay... Several multinational companies streamlining their business due to its impact... Megaworld is a giant company... The company gives priority to their projects that can generate income despite of the crisis... Even Dubai, an economic power, experienced downturn in construction businesses where several projects are postponed...

In regards to their possible clients, I think this is the least possible reason for the project delay... Iloilo is a BPO hotspots... If Megaworld can establish their business here, I'm sure many investors would never doubt to invest in its property...

for me one big reason is the inadequate power supply which the city don't have right now.
we'll wait 1-2 years for the completion and commence exercise of clean coal technology although it doesn't promises everything but will play a big role in the industry.i hope and pray tht more renewable earth friendly power supply will soon follow to augment the forces.

^^ IMO, the recession benefits the country, especially MW because it is geared towards BPO. Also, it's a good time (in the RP) to start building and renovating (as is the trend in so many establishments here). I guess MW stressed it's priority before that it needs more power to even start construction (lol).

Sarabia Manor is having a renovation btw...just minor.

Au contraire...BPO is slowing down due to so-called "protectionist tax laws implemented to outsourcing American companies" and ...giving the demand to decrease a bit but not to a complete stop or or reversal.

Megaworld is just cautious given the current situation that we have nowadays.

‘Dishonor roll’

The Constitution protects aliens, drunks and congressmen,” humorist Will Rogers once cracked. But who will protect us from congressmen who’d gang rape the Constitution?

In approving House Resolution 1109, legislators informed citizens: “Ladies and Gentlemen, we’re going to violate the Constitution,” Ateneo’s Joaquin Bernas noted. “The threat becomes real if… the military cooperates and… justices of the Supreme Court are tempted to cooperate in the gang rape of the constitution,” Bernas adds. The alternative might be a people’s power revolt.”

display of power lust at its finest! and it's not by accident that it was timed several months before next year's election. there were orders from PGMA before this thing occured. haay, no wonder, we're poor--dirt poor--because of the muck and mud of many (read: not all) of our politicians! the seething display of trying to cling on to power is just despicable!

Cha-cha is untimely... The congressmen are united for the common goal, "THEIR PERSONAL INTEREST" not for the interest of the Filipino people... Why they should amend the constitution before the election? Their motives to stay in power is very obvious...

I am not against any constitutional amendment if it is done after 2010 election... There are some laws need to be changed and to be included...

The administration are really working hard to protect their seat in the Malacanang Palace... First, they sent back Maclang as their move against Erap and Lacson plans for Presidency... And the other is the charter change... If one will not work out, I'm sure the other will...

So to the citizens of this country... Let us all be vigilant to our country's political situation... Let's all be united to protect our freedom... Let us not allow our servants to rule over us...

but now the area renovated includes a pharmacy and a bank.but there is still space for which ong bun can expand.

Is it before the year end or after the new year?

di bala sa AUGUST kuno ang STARBUCKS dira sa may SMCITY?

Is Iloilo Boulevard similar to Roxas Boulevard? I am eager that the place will be an added tourist attraction to our city... Also, it may serve as an avenue for relaxation...

Hoping When it is finished, the city government will maintain and preserve the beauty of the place, and it will not become a haven of drug addiction and prostitution...

i dont think it is comparable since this one is just an alternate route for private vehicles. this wasn't actually planned but just a soort of spur of the moment idea when the flood control project?? was constructed in the area.

by the way, it seems that i saw a sort of riverside road at the back of gaisano city to be part of this blvd. will this really be a continuous RIVERSIDE ROAD from FORBES (LA PAZ) BRIDGE to CARPENTERS BRIDGE but BASTARDIZED by BBQ PARK along DIVERSION BRIDGE??

I answer myself  daw indi pwede since the from the jalandoni bridge it looks the road will actually be at the BACK of MARINA / between marina and st joseph. then it will MIX with the traffic of DIVERSION ROAD then turn right sa tupad sang BBQ park :bash: so naging perwisyo pa sya in a sort of way.

i was really hoping that this alternate route just integrated the exisitng RIZALINa BERNARDO AVE ( entrance to RIVERSIDE BOARDWALK) then meet with the riverside blvd. the flood control dike stays along the river of course  pero that would have not touched the area plus WALA TANI ADDITIONAL PARKING AREA ang BBQ PARK.

Imagine? they are squatting (kuno) sa gov't property, they managed to avoid being "squashed" by a big project plus a makeshift parking space pa esp at night

Thanx for the pics Alvin... It's great to see Amigo with a superb coffee shop... May bag-o naman nga talambayan ang mga Ilonggo subong...

The new coffee shop compliments the classy image of Amigo mall... There is a reason now why Ilonggos should keep coming back to this mall...

I love the interiors of the shop... It can even compete or surpass the interior of some famous coffee shops like Starbucks or Figaro...

Hope Blue Jays will continue to prosper, and to expand not only in our province but all throughout the country or even the globe... If this happens, it will be another laurel to our city's achievement ... God bless Blue Jay!

Is Lapuz considered a separate district from City Proper? I thought it was part of it.

I read in newspapers that Lapuz ends with district, plus Comelec has a separate division for it and theres a different police precint from the one in Gen. Luna St.

Yeah, the Metro Gaisano Department Store and Supermarket at Market! Market! is performing very well (even better than some SM outlets in Metro Manila), that Ayala has once again decided to partner with them for their soon-to-open mall in Angeles, Pampanga. So that'll make it 3 Metro Gaisano and Ayala partnerships (Ayala Center Cebu, Market! Market!, MarQuee Mall)...

It's nice to see that Gaisano Capital Iloilo (formerly Gaisano City Iloilo) is now being renovated. So your Gaisano City belongs to the Gaisano Capital group pala. That's nice. Nirerenovate na din ang Gaisano Capital dito sa Mactan and so far, maganda siya. Medyo sosyal ang dating: warm lights, Mactan stones, good landscaping :okay:

It's not about what you speculate or reality...

Reality does bite but its different from being a pessimist to a total dreamer who doesn't see reality.

It's in the mindset dear. ;) Different POVs, but I hope you won't see something "dark" in the future as human beings themselves hold the future.

Iloilo City exceeds tax collection target
By DAVID ISRAEL SINAY

ILOILO City – The city government was able to reach – and even exceed – its tax collection target in the first four months of this year, reported the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO).

Mayor Jerry Treñas attributed the feat to the diligence of the assessor’s and treasurer’s offices, and cooperation of taxpayers.

In April, the CTO collected P488,533,717 – 51 percent of the city’s budget estimate for 2009.

The projected income of the city this year is P958,494,995.

From January to April, business tax and other taxes topped the collections, reaching P180,505,957 or equivalent to 67 percent of the target for 2009.

Real property tax collections amounted to P77,367,499 or 47 percent of the target.

Non-tax revenues or fees collected reached P51,148,206 or 65 percent of the target.

CTO also said city-run public markets and the slaughterhouse collected P16,171,291 or 47 percent of the target income.

Treñas said the city government also received P163,340,762 or 40 percent of the initial release of its Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share this year.

Iloilo City has an IRA of P412,506,278.

Treñas said the city government has not been dependent on its IRA share for several years now./PN

A night at SM Cinema

It was quite a night recently when SM Cinema 6 was filled by guests who were invited to the launching of the newly renovated SM Cinema Iloilo. No less than the Senior Vice President of SM Cinema, Edgar Tejero, welcomed everybody to the cocktails, ribbon cutting, program and the viewing of Night at the Museum 2.

While the rest of the guests were already inside viewing the trailers, I was able to gather some interesting information about SM Cinema from Mr. Tejero.

I learned that all SM Cinemas that are seven to 10 years old become candidates for renovation. “We want to create the difference between watching a DVD at home and the theater,” Tejero said. Indeed, he's right. Nothing beats watching a movie in the big screen.

The seats are bigger and they are made of fabric. The floors are carpeted. Even the projection system was overhauled.

Tejero noted that after the renovations, SM Iloilo Cinemas experienced a 28 percent growth compared to last year.

Another good news that he shared was the arrival of the digital theater system that Ilonggos will enjoy within the year. They will no longer use the 35-mm film but rather, a movie file that's downloaded from the Internet to their system.

What about Imax? “If we are to consider a timeline, having one in Iloilo is still far-fetched because it requires a different structure,” Tejero said. SM North Edsa, Cebu and Fort Bonifacio will be the next home of the Imax.

Buyers from the snack bars are also in for some treats. “Now that SM Cinema runs the snack bars, we will become flexible in giving discounts and freebies through our “Walk the Talk” promotion that will start on July. This means a tie-up with branded food names so they could come up with free movie watching experience for kids. “Just expect some innovations in our marketing campaign,” he said.

SM Cinema is not only for movie watching. It is also open for school plays, product launchings, events for review centers, and more. These events can be enjoyed in the 10 AM to 2 PM slot.

SM also has a film library that contains documentaries and history, among others. Students will surely find the time at SM Cinemas a very educational treat, too.

Want to snuggle beside a loved one, much on hotdogs and donuts while watching a great movie on the big screen? Try SM Cinema.

Coffeebreak Metro holds bloodletting activity

There are many easy reasons why a business remains on the top. Whatever those reasons are, one thing is sure: a successful business gives something back.

Waffle Time Inc. together with Coffeebreak Café, International, and Western Visayas Medical Center Blood Bank Department recently held a bloodletting activity at Coffeebreak-Metro.

To show valuable support, Waffle Time, Coffebreak, Green Mango, and Rice ‘n More crews, Nothing but Desserts, as well as GreatFoods Concepts, Inc. (Mojave, Bauhinia, Amalfi) employees took time to support the blood donation activity.

This was the meaningful response of the involved organizations to the blood supply shortage experienced in Western Visayas Medical Center. The activity was part of these companies’ serious effort in exercising its social responsibility.

Coffeebreak-Metro was packed because of the blood-letting activity that lasted until early afternoon that same day. Sixty donors eagerly underwent the tests to qualify as blood donors. Medical personnel from the Western Visayas Medical Center facilitated the tests to determine qualified blood donors. Unfortunately, of the sixty willing donors, only 16 people were qualified to be blood donors. Nevertheless, the Western Visayas Medical Center Blood Bank Department very much appreciated the bloodletting activity organized by Waffle Time, Coffeebreak, and Greatfoods Concepts, Inc.

The organizations involved not only wanted to give help in augmenting the blood supply in the hospital, but they wanted to urge more people who are eligible to come forward and, through donating blood, make a meaningful life-saving gift. Social responsibility has become one of the values firmly held by these companies. It has become part of their corporate mission to endeavor on activities that focus on social services and uplifting public welfare and public health. The bloodletting activity is just a start of these companies’ effort to earnestly exercise their corporate social mission of promoting social welfare and public health. Indeed, as what these companies believe, the opportunity to serve others is the best fruit that comes with success.

no wonder it took some time for them to open ... the interiors are really great. Very well though of. I hope they do consider adding a smoking lounge, smokers are a big market for the coffee shop industry, you know (ofcourse, it has to be isolated from the rest of the space and with good ventilation).

I hope so too. Same thing with SM, I notice that since the open air coffee shops closed down a lot of people (usually smoking) hanging out at the front entrance. Kung sino man na ang ma open sa old garden area sa parking lot, I'm sure may mga tawo guid da mag kadto para magtambay. The coffee shop at the third floor is an option but their ventilation is just not good, grabe pu-ot da.

Iloilo City exceeds tax collection target

This is good news. At least we are now veering away from national dependence. This should encourage more businesses to come...:okay:

Less dependence from IRA, more projects.

Roding Ganzon is different from Raul Gonzales. Although both are from the powerful mestizo "kingdoms."

The analysis here is that if the Old King of Jaro is against Jerry Treñas's efforts of competitiveness and what we already achieved in Iloilo City now, then we might be seeing flaming word wars coming from the congressman and the mayor. Then that's another thing...but for now, no flaming word wars unlike at the Capitol. And I hope we wouldn't see conflicts in the future.

There is an amount of power being exerciesed by King Raul in Iloilo even if he is still out of office at least.

And with the business sector more bullish than before, I don't think local politics can affect the economic climate of today and go back to the so-called "Timawa-ism" which proved devastating to the economy of Iloilo City...that's quite extreme already. As long as Iloilo remains business friendly then investors would still enter.

As what we say here sa mga corrupt officials, "Less businesses, less tong-pats." So more businesses proves more opportunities for ALL the people of one locality...but I would pray for minimizing or stopping corruption in our government.

But anyway, 2010 is near....or the question, will we ever have elections on 2010 with the bill for con-ass already in session?

I don't think so as well. Somehow it will affect the city if it'll be mismanaged by Raul (just in case) but I don't think it will be the city's downfall at all. It way, way different during Ganzon's time.

Besides, the MIGEDC and MIG have started to deliver good economic stance not only for the city but for the entire metro areas. So even if Iloilo City will slow down in economy, the MIG area will surely be sustainable. Pavia, Sta Barbara and Oton are now becoming a new hub of businesses in Iloilo. The MIG presents bigger opportunities than the city alone.

Go, go, go ILOILO !:banana::banana::banana::banana:
The city is indeed spreading its wings as the next best hub for BPOs in the country today. I hope Iloilo City will continue to promote the city (and the province) as business-friendly to these BPO companies. It will surely give jobs to our increasing number of graduates every year. Being the region's educational centre, ILOILO CITY is teeming with good supply of human resources greatly needed by these BPOs.

‘ILOILO CITY WILL BE MORE ATTRACTIVE TO INVESTORS’

Treñas upbeat on GBPC-Peco pact
By Francis Allan L. Angelo

INVESTORS will start rushing in Iloilo City once stable and cheap power supply is available in the metropolis.

Mayor Jerry Treñas made the optimistic forecast at the sidelines of the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between Global Business Power Corp. (GBPC) and Panay Electric Co. (PECO) yesterday at Iloilo Business Hotel.

The MOA signals the start of negotiations for the amendment of the 25-year electric power purchase agreement (EPPA) between GBPC and PECO.

GBPC is constructing a 164-megawatt coal-fired power plant at Brgy. Ingore, LaPaz which is expected to be completed late next year.

The power plant will be operated by Panay Energy Development Corp. which is under the umbrella of GBPC.

GBPC’s Panay Power Corp. (PPC), meanwhile, will continue to operate the 72MW diesel-fired power plant at Brgy. Ingore which presently supplies the bulk of Iloilo City’s power requirement.

The EPPA will be amended to shift PECO’s baseload supply from the diesel-fired power plant to the coal-fired power plant.

Treñas said the new agreement will attract more investors in the city, particularly business processes outsourcing (BPO) companies.

“Iloilo City is rated as one of the top 5 business process outsourcing (BPO) sites in the world and there are about 3,500 to 4,000 employees currently employed by various call centers here. We need cheaper and stable power supply to attract more investors. Intermittent and expensive power has been a stumbling block to the entry of more investors here,” Treñas said.

Treñas said property developer Megaworld will also need an initial 10MW to develop the 54-hectare old Iloilo airport lot in Mandurriao district.

“Various subdivisions, particularly Sta. Lucia-RSBS, will also develop more residential areas in the city and these need more power,” the mayor added.

Engr. Adrian Moncada, GBPC assistant vice president for commercial operation, said the amended EPPA will slash the current generation charge of P8.50 per kilowatt by at least P3.

Moncada said since the coal plant is embedded in PECO’s distribution system, the city is assured of reliable and stable power supply.

Treñas said other independent power producers are welcome in Iloilo and Panay because present and future energy capacities are not enough to cope with the growing power demand in the island.

Gil Altamira, GBPC commercial operations manager, said the coal-fired power plant is only good until 2012 if demand for power grows 3% annually.

Currently, Panay is suffering from a 50-MW deficiency resulting in rotating brownouts on a daily basis.
this Sta Lucia RSBS development is in Pavia, just right in front of Carlitos. It was once touted to be developed as a golf course in the past but due to economic crunch in 1990s, it was shelved. Now, they're back and they're planning to develop the area into residential (with commerical sites as I've heard, too) township to compete with other new real estate players in Iloilo.

Btw, Green Meadows pre-selling has reach United Kingdom last 2 weeks. Kadamo interesado magkuha especially for the promise of artificial lakes, something different and homey from other subdivisions in Iloilo and Iloilo City.

PCCI offers free training for call center aspirants
By Kathy M. Villalon

Lex Tupas during the cutting of the ribbon. To have an edge over other aspirants to the call center customer service job, it is important to receive training and the Philippine Call Center Institute (PCCI) makes this possible.

Recently opened in Iloilo, PCCI provides training, recruitment and staffing for customer service agents, technical support agents as well as non-agent positions.

PCCI is accredited by the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA), thus the company's scholars are given an allowance of P780 for one program. “We plan to have 200 scholars a month,” Kristelle Ong, school head, said. The scholarship program is under the Pangulong Gloria Scholarships.

After lunch at Ocean City. After the training, their graduates are endorsed to Bacolod, Cebu, Manila and Iloilo-based call centers. “The student can even come back to us until they find work. For those hired outside Iloilo, the hiring call center will provide the employee with a relocation package,” said Ong. “We also hold provincial recruitments by bringing call centers to Iloilo to conduct on-the-spot hiring,” she added.

PCCI decided to open in Iloilo City because they have found that it has a steady pool of graduates who are highly trainable. In fact, 20 to 25 percent of call center works outside of Iloilo are Ilonggos.

Training facilitySo, if you are unemployed, at least 18 years of age (high school graduate), a single parent, a grandparent (maximum of 55 years), career shifter or fresh graduate, a free training at PCCI can be yours.

One course lasts for 100 hours, which can be finished in a month. There are three schedules --- 8 AM to 12 NN, 1 to 5 PM and 6 to 10 PM.

The company is located at #60 Gen. Luna Street, Iloilo City, beside Metrobank. They can be reached through telephone numbers (033) 3367224 or 0922.5269.603.
another great move for the city and province to become more and more competitive when it comes to luring BPO companies to invest in Iloilo City and Iloilo Province. I also hope that this development will pave way to make ILOILO a more attractive BPO site around the world.:banana::banana::banana:

Makati City, Pavia bolster ‘sisterhood’
By GLENDA SOLOGASTOA

ILOILO – The mayor of the country’s financial capital, Makati City, yesterday visited Pavia town and other local government units in Iloilo to strengthen their ties.

Mayor Jejomar Binay, also the president of the United Opposition, reaffirmed Makati’s “sisterhood” ties with Pavia under Mayor Arcadio Gorriceta.

Makati City is actively pursuing sisterhood ties with various localities in the country, but that it is not just a numbers game where nothing happens after the signing of the memorandum of agreement, Binay said.

“We and our sister-localities recognize the need for us to take a more proactive stance in seeking ways to improve the delivery of services, to hasten the attainment of progress that would benefit the majority, if not all of our constituents,” he stressed.

As can be recalled, Makati donated an ambulance and relief assistance to Pavia last year after it was hit hard by Typhoon “Frank.”

“We cannot just stand idly watching while our brothers and sisters are suffering. We have to do whatever we can to alleviate their burden and give them hope of a better future,” Binay said.

To date, Makati has more than 100 local and foreign sister cities and municipalities.

Binay lauded Pavia’s fast recovery from the devastation brought by Typhoon “Frank” in June last year, and its continued growth.

He credited Gorriceta’s transparent leadership for bringing about progress in the municipality, and stressed the importance of honest governance.

Binay announced that the Makati City government will be helping Pavia’s computerization program. It will be donating some 50 computers.

He also said the University of Makati will be offering scholarships to deserving Pavianhons.

From Pavia, Binay proceed to the municipalities of Oton and Tigbauan where he also pledged assistance from the local government of Makati./PN
Makati, being the centre of social, cultural and economy of the country, is reaching out for ILOILO. Makati and Iloilo cities has long past its sisterhood. Now, Makati does not only content itself with Iloilo City but far reaching to Pavia and maybe Oton in the future. These two metrotowns are fast becoming a business hub and melting pot in Iloilo. With better exchange of ideas from Makati, Pavia will surely rise above its developing phase to a greater height. All the best for Makati and Pavia.

New Iloilo airport gateway to Iloilo’s tourism and economic boom

ILOILO CITY, May 29 (PNA) – The New Iloilo Airport, which opened its doors to commercial traffic on June 14, 2007 after Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurated it, has indeed served as Iloilo’s gateway to more tourism industry and economic boom.

Iloilo Gov. Niel D. Tupas Sr. said that the airport located 19 kilometers northwest of Iloilo City and in the towns of Sta. Barbara-Cabatuan, has paved way for more tourists to visit the province and for traders interested in investing in the area.

“There are a lot of businessmen who have approached me for their possible investment in Iloilo province,” Gov. Tupas disclosed.

He also pinpointed the ongoing development outside of the airport premises and the land acquisitions of Shoemart and the establishment of a high-end subdivision, the Sta. Barbara Heights.

Gov. Tupas, who also led the inauguration of the Information Tourism Desk together with Airport Manager Efren Nagrama right inside the main passenger terminal Wednesday, said that it is also because of the aggressive marketing being done now for the province tourism and economic investments that they are setting up the desk.

“This will serve as the selling point for Iloilo to other provinces and even to the whole nation,” the governor said.

The governor then thanked Pres. Macapagal-Arroyo and then Ilonggo Sen. Franklin M. Drilon for really working out for the realization of the New Iloilo Airport Development Project.

The airport project implementation has been started in 2003 through the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) official development assistance (ODA) loan agreement No. PH-P214 in the tune of Y2.60 billion with the Government of Philippines local counterpart of Y14.7 billion.

The total project cost is then Y17.30 billion.

The airport complex occupying 188-hectare (460-acre) site and contracted by the Japanese firm Taisei-Shimizu Joint Ventures consists of a single runway, various administrative and maintenance buildings, waste sorting and water treatment facilities, a power generating station, a cargo terminal and a main passenger terminal.

Now the Iloilo airport, which was built to be of international standard in slightly over 30 months, had become one of the largest airports to be constructed in the Philippines.

It is one of the busiest airports in the country accommodating the flights of three major airlines the Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Air Philippines.

The Zest Air has also incoming and outgoing flight in the airport everyday.

Airport Manager Nagrama said the Iloilo airport catered to 15 flights a day on the average.

He also said the airport has helped greatly attract tourist and investors to Iloilo, because of the scenic beauty of the airport and its premises.

“The tourists and investors because of the airport are able to get initial idea on the potential of Iloilo and even of the provinces in Western Visayas being the gateway,” Nagrama said.

The airport manager said the expanse of the airport area has not yet even been maximized for later on there will be construction of international terminals also.

He said that because of the increased terminal fee and other rental fees at the airport it was also now gaining income.

Newly arrived passengers of Cebu Pacific from Manila yesterday who were interviewed said they really found the airport much better than the old one in Mandurriao, Iloilo City which was decommissioned after the new airport started to operate.

Passenger Ralph Perez, an Ilonggo who works as Guidance Counselor of Sta. Barbara National Comprehensive High School, said the airport was “very nice” and could greatly help in attracting and in promoting Iloilo to tourists and investors.

Another passenger said: “The airport is okey. This airport is much better than before.”

Nina, an employee in Metro Manila and has went home to Iloilo, also agreed that the airport was now more attractive and convenient for passengers.(PNA)
Now, this is the confirmation I am waiting ages ago. SM indeed had acquired property in Sta Barbara or near airport site. I wouldn't believed Wecky in the past when he told me so as they are still on the process of looking for land. Wow, I could not wait to see SM development in Sta. Barbara-Pavia-Cabatuan area. It's high time for SM for build (mall or township) in these metrotowns.

The first rainforest park in the city realized
By Kathy M. Villalon

The efforts to save the environment and to counter the effects of climate change is gaining ground with the realization of the first rainforest park in Iloilo City.

The park will rise on the 1,800-square-meter lot at the back area of the I. Arroyo Elementary School in Fundidor, Molo. The area used to be a swamp where mosquitoes breed when rainwater collects here, thereby increasing the chances of diseases being transmitted from one person to another. In order to solve this problem, put the land in good use and to preserve the environment, the Zonta Club of Iloilo City 2, embarked on the mini rainforest park.

The land is owned by the City Government, while the initial seedlings planted there were given by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO). The land fill was taken from the Iloilo Flood Control Project's excavated soil and transported by JS Layson Construction. The park's planning and landscape design was provided by Architect Sergio Penalosa.

“As we lay down the first seedlings for this forest park, we hope that we are also planting the seeds of environmental awareness and activism in the consciousness of all who are here today and especially the members of this community who will directly benefit from the presence of this mini forest in their midst,” said Mari Rose Cacho, chairperson of the Rainforest Project of Zonta 2 during the groundbreaking yesterday.

“Our vision is to grow several pockets of forests similar to this in our city and perhaps the whole province of Iloilo. It is a vision that we can achieve with the help of the government, private organizations and individuals, the community and all stakeholders in this case. Meaning, all of us, because in the end, we have only one earth to live in and we don't own it. We are simply borrowing it from our children,” she added.

Mayor Jerry Treñas pledged his continued support for the said project. He cited that typhoon Frank, which happened last June 21, 2008, was a product of climate change. He is quite happy that Zonta embarked on the creation of mini pockets of forests in the city, as an answer to this environmental problem. He hopes that the student in I. Arroyo Elementary School will see what is being done for the environment.

Trenas also took the opportunity to thank the club for its support on the Iloilo City Women's Desk even before his term as mayor has started. He gladly informed that Zonta ladies present that the vehicle they requested for the Women's Desk had been approved.

Sol Sucaldito, PENRO officer, told The News Today that what the Zonta 2 is doing is remarkable. “They are doing this not only for today but for the next generation. It's one of the aspects of sustainable development,” she said.

The mini rainforest park is not the only sight at the I. Arroyo Elementary School, which has a student population of 933. The school has a Science Park, Math Park, Herbal Park, a vegetable garden and an area for vermi composting.

mayo ni... welcome back space. dugay ka nadula ah. hehehe. sako guid pangita kwarta? hahaha.
I was on leave for a week. I went to Rome for 4 days so I was off the worldwide web enjoying Roman sceneries. hehehehe. Now, I'm back, backtracking naman sang news kag mga posts diri.

I think the floodway's slope will really be mostly grass. Vetiver grass. Its roots grow 2-4 m downward so it's usually used for erosion control. I hope this works!

it looks like an airport runway ... beautiful. Once finished, IFC project is another place of interest especially if they'll develop areas on each side of the flood control.

More Gold more Glory... but, lets reserve it for the next gen... may ibuga pa man ang iloilo subong nga panahon... lain gid ya kun may ara sinuptan/ginatago... may galastuhun pag-abot sng tini-on sng kakulanngan (real ilonngo traits ah..).. samtang gaduda pa kita sa mangin epekto sini... studyohan ta anay....

lets just hope for the best...

AGREE!!!...thumbs down ako kay Raul G.,... tan-awa nyo lng paglapit na eleksyon..damo naman na gapila sa ila balay.. labi na gid mga brgy. captain... kunsabagay.. bisan sin-o man lng nga pulitiko maalwan kun eleksyon ah.. isa ako sa saksi.. kay man nakabakal ko branded nga sapatos after eleksyon sng una..:cheers:
Personally, I will not go for Gonzales. He's too strong and arrogant and misbehaved to be the city's mayor.

Hope Raul Gonzales would not win as city mayor this coming election in order to see a steady growth for our local economy... But if he'll win, just fasten your seatbelt Ilonggos, and be ready for a roller coaster ride...:ohno::ohno::ohno:
hoping for the best.

Hope SM will not only establish a hotel here but a convention center also... Since Iloilo is always hosting conventions...
here's hoping more for SM projects in Iloilo City and Iloilo Province. The more, the merrier!

Sta. Barbara, Pavia, and Cabatuan are the next big things in Iloilo... The land acquired by SM group near the airport will pave way to the development of those areas... I'm sure soon those places will compete with Iloilo City neck to neck in business development... I can't wait to see SM transform their property into a prominent spot in our province...:banana::banana:
i totally agree. These are the places in the province to watch. The economic corridor within these three municipalities is getting bigger and more progressive each day. They'll surely compete with the city in the near future. So better watch out Iloilo City :banana::banana::banana:

"Amo na kami diri sa Pavia, tani amo man sa bug-os nga pungsod/banwa!":lol:

Oh well, the rush of sisterhood pacts of Makati to other towns seems to be politically motivated instead of economically driven...especially when Binay's the one approving it...
hope Binay will stand down. I don't think he has the power to win anyway. Maybe he can support other candidate to make the opposition really strong. There's no point messing around. Besides, Makati City, with or without the aid of national government can stand on its own feet.

Pavia is gearing for more economic development. It can be seen everywhere in the municipality. Damo development sa Pavia especially housing projects. I'm sure with the flourishing of real estate industry in Pavia and Sta Barbara, more commercial establishments will relocate in the place in the very near future.
