Ga diskusyon ang iban about food, as if waay ga exist ang aforementioned, hehe
2. Grabe mag manipulate si kaltehitze sang discussion sa thread ba. Several times, daw ma hulog sa CvC and total word war between two sides, but with deft, skill and wordplay, na steer ni kaltehitze and discussion into (a) food and (b) erotic fantasies. what a talent ba.

New? Ive been lurking for about 3 years already.I ain't new to this thing. Taught that way? or were you bragging to other forumers that you were as if so important back here.
Taught to give tips? Hmmmm..weren't you taught to be patient and courteous?:ohno:
"Dont react as if I'm not the owner". I know the owners.
Yes. I understand that you were just informing. But look at the way you inform, you inform as if the restaurant was useless. Do you understand that it was just the second day of operations? or do I have to explain it to you? Second day..meaning it just opened yesterday.
Not intended to ruin their business? If you just told that unfortunate information to the owners themselves and told no one else about it , then I believe your intention not to ruin their business was sincere. But look, you spread the news and even made jokes about it. Now tell me how does that not ruin a business? Minnesota's Finest October 31st, 2009, 08:20 AM Why France is Pushing Its Students to Master English
By Bruce Crumley / Paris Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009
The faces look a little nervous and the words are spoken a bit timidly —all rather normal for a group of French students learning to speak English. But the hesitant responses aren't coming in a classroom where foreign language instruction is another obligatory grind in a long day of courses. Instead, these 18-to-25-year-olds are paying up to $6,000 annually to master a language they all took for six years in high school before earning their Baccalaureate degrees and entering the job market.
"A lot of things in France have changed under globalization in order to keep us competitive, but teaching people English here has remained old-fashioned and inefficient," says Julien Petitpas, one of the 10 young adults who gather for 12 hours a week to improve their English at the Berlitz language school near the Paris Opera. "In school it's all structure, grammar and getting it right on paper and in your head before you ever speak — and even then, you don't do much of that. It just doesn't work."
(See pictures of Paris expanding.)
He's not the only person who thinks so. Earlier this month, French President Nicolas Sarkozy unveiled an "emergency plan" for teaching foreign languages in the nation's schools with the lofty objective that "all our high school students must become bilingual, and some should be trilingual." Why the panic? Because as Sarkozy noted, a nation that spends 5.8% of its annual GDP on education — the fifth highest percentage in the world — simply must do better than its current rank of 69th among 109 countries on the standardized Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). To that end, Sarkozy has proposed exposing students to more native-speaking English instructors, increasing contacts between French and foreign high schools and shifting the focus in schools from written foreign-language instruction to the more practical oral.
"A modern foreign language is meant to be spoken," Sarkozy said in his latest assault on the kinds of tradition-bound practices that he believes are holding the country back economically. "Pointing something that obvious out isn't futile in a country where Latin is an oral exam on the Baccalaureate while the leading modern language [English] is evaluated in written form."
(See pictures of Sarkozy celebrating Bastille Day.)
Compelling teachers in France's notoriously rigid education system to change their ways and encourage students to speak more in foreign-language classes will be one challenge to overcome. Another is confronting the contradiction that comes with promoting foreign-language study among students and continuing France's long-standing policies aimed at protecting and promoting the use of the French language at home. The Academie Française began its mission of purging the French language of impurities — often words taken from other languages — way back in 1635. The key objective of the country's 25-year-old exception culturelle is ensuring that French-language music, film and other cultural products are not dominated by English-language imports. And a law passed in 1994 requires that French translations accompany any foreign phrases in state documents, business contracts and even advertising.
(Read "The Class: A Year in the Blackboard Jungle.")
These efforts to trumpet the virtues of the French language may inadvertently decrease the allure of foreign tongues to many in France —especially among students who are made to feel they mustn't attempt to utter a word of what's often called la langue de Shakespeare until they've mastered it on paper. "I think a lot of French people are hesitant to speak another language at what could be considered the expense of French," says Karin Hull, who has taught English at Berlitz for four years. "The legacy of cultural protectionism is one factor, and the way foreign languages are taught in school is another. Students pass language exams only to discover they can't really speak [the language]."
(Read: "Plagiarism Software Finds a New Shakespeare Play.")
Shifting the focus of foreign-language study from written to oral instruction is only one way of making classes more practical. Berlitz also offers an increasingly popular "First Jobs" course in which students are taught business and financial English vocabulary and are given help improving their resumes and job interviewing skills — in English. "These are students who've wanted to improve their English as part of many things they'll need in their careers," says Alain Nothern, the polyglot director of Berlitz's Opera center. "The focus is English, but it's a wider tool kit for the business world."
Becoming an Anglophone isn't cheap — but that's not stopping students from signing up. Laetitia Marcellesi says she had to get a job to pay for the course, while her classmate, Justine Boussin, took out a loan to finance a study abroad trip to London. Only time will tell if future French students will start getting this type of practical training for free at school, or whether they'll have to keep paying for it once they graduate.

My take on this is that Iloilo should take this as an opportunity. The city can market itself as a center for learning the language of shakespeare, after all, we have shown our capacity to do so by way of the many korean students here in the city. It's about to have french students na naman!
If they're willing to spend $6,000 and still not improve their english language skills, then that is such a waste. If they study here in Iloilo city, they will surely spend lesser than that amount, and improve at the same time their english language skills because they will be forced to speak english to us ilonggos and to the koreans here as well.
I hope this article from Time magazine will come to the attention of Iloilo city government officials and market our city to france.

Guys, I need help regarding this query from PEx
Hi! My sister wants to go to Boracay instead of Palawan. I'm not really a fan of crowded beaches like Boracay but I will definitely explore other places in Aklan. She'd leave first so I have 2 1/2 days left to explore Panay solo. I plan to visit Antique & Iloilo pero I think bitin siya, so I'd go for the latter muna. How do I go po to Carles (North Isla de Gigantes) frm Kalibo? My planned route: Kalibo -> Carles -> Iloilo City (overnight) -> Bucari->Iloilo City (overnight) --> Miag-ao Church/Molo Church/Nelly's Garden--> Manila. Bale I plan to stay in Iloilo City each night, I dnt knw kase kung meron matutulugan in Carles eh. Mga ilang oras po ba ang Carles to Iloilo City? I just bought a map of Panay & base dun, I have to travel from the North tip of Iloilo down to the South, it's been ages since the last time I've been to Iloilo. Kaya q po ba sya in 2 1/2 days? I'd highly appreciate any info & suggestions esp about Bucari/Leon & Carles. Daghang salamat!

When we went to Gigantes Norte eons ago, we went thru Estancia and not thru Carles. The boat ride alone took 6 hours, if I'm not mistaken. :)
SamwiseGamgee October 31st, 2009, 09:47 AM But since Palafox is still hopeful for Iloilo unlike Manila (given the 30 years of implementing the MetroPlan), then I guess we still have better chances to have our urban area more organized despite the early chaos in planning.
Palafox just made a fan out of me, when he said that his projects are designed with the people's welfare in his mind first, then the environment. He said money is the last thing in his mind when he makes his designs. He even forego millions of pesos in fees, just to save some old trees in one of his projects, he said.
Hope he does his wonders to Iloilo, too. :okay:

'Tyo Tagoy' October 31st, 2009, 10:59 AM Firm earmarks P7B to put up 18 mini hydropower plants
By Amy R. Remo

MANILA, Philippines--Century Peak Energy Corp. plans to invest P7 billion to put up 18 mini hydropower projects, which would have a combined capacity of about 75 megawatts (MW), a company official said.
Vice president Alice Cheng said the projects, which would mark the company’s first foray in hydropower, are to be located in Benguet, Iloilo, Antique and Negros Occidental.
Century Peak, a subsidiary of listed firm Century Peak Metal Holdings, was recently awarded by the Department of Energy with 18 renewable energy service contracts.
Following the award, Cheng said they expect to get all the necessary permits within six months, after which they plan to begin construction in two sites—in Igbaras, Iloilo and San Remegio, Antique.
Century Peak has four hydropower projects in Igbaras that would require P930.6 million in investments and another five in San Remegio that need P3.1 billion.
According to Cheng, the company did not have any problems in sourcing funds for the proposed projects since its parent firm had recently listed with the Philippine Stock Exchange.
“So we don’t have problems in terms of capital [funding requirements],” she noted.
Aside from the nine projects, Century Peak also plans to construct power facilities in Kabayan and Atok in Benguet, which would require a combined P507.6 million in investments; another in Maasin, Iloilo (P197.40 million); and six more in various sites in Negros Occidental (P2.35 billion).
“We’re looking for more projects. Our next target would be the bigger hydropower projects that would each have over 10 MW in capacity. Our mini hydropower projects have less than 10 MW in capacity each,” Cheng said.
Cheng said they plan to put up the bigger hydropower projects on Panay island, which has been experiencing shortages in electricity supply.

I'm wondering what will happen to the part of the San Rafael-Tabucan road near the Mohler building since most of the road is a 4-lane road while those nearing Molo are 2-lanes. Does that mean the government will eventually demolish for road-widening in the future?
Kaltehitze October 31st, 2009, 03:44 PM It seems that everyone is having the same experience in Cafe Laguna. They have to improve their service time and customer service.
Amu gid. Dapat indi lang food ang i-concentrate sang isa ka resto, dapat pati customer service i consider gid!
Kaltehitze October 31st, 2009, 03:46 PM it would be the 3rd resto to occupy that space after ILOILO KANSI HOUSE and another turo-turo.

Patience is a virtue, but time is gold as well. That should also be considered in food business. :) The experience is like this, then it should be the main focus of the management in order to survive.
PS.
I sent some people here some PMs. Please read and reply in the PM alone. I think consideration with other people's sentiments should also be taken as well. Thanks! ;)

good morning iloilo!
wow good to see the ateneo de iloilo new campus on the (fast) rise!
the buildings of the new campuses of the different ateneo high schools have similarities because the planning for the new campuses consider the construction plans of the earlier built campuses.
the designers together with the jesuits in charge of the new campuses actually made site visits of the other jesuits schools in the country.
looking forward to another talaba-to-sawa session in Breakthrough when i go visit ateneo/ ILO next month.

'Tyo Tagoy' November 1st, 2009, 04:29 AM RP team wins 25 medals in math contest in India

NEW DELHI—IT WAS KARYA safal hua, or “mission accomplished” in Hindi, for the 20-member Philippine team to the just-concluded 2009 Wizards at Mathematics International Competition (Wizmic) in India.
The young Filipino math wizards won a total of 25 medals in the Math contest for elementary students held in Lucknow, the capital of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, about 516 kilometers southeast of the Indian capital.
The four gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze medals that the Filipino team won gave it a very respectable second-place finish in the seven-nation contest.
Indonesia topped the contest, winning the most gold, 8, and taking a total of 24 medals. Thailand came in third with 20, Bulgaria was fourth with 9, while host India was fifth with 33 medals, mostly bronze.
Zimbabwe and Nepal also took part in the contest, taking home six and five medals, respectively.
The Philippines’ individual gold medals were won by Adrian Reginald Sy of St. Jude Catholic School in Manila, Timothy James Tan from Trinity Christian School, Bacolod, Negros Occidental, and Nathaniel Ryan Ang of Xavier School in San Juan, Metro Manila.
The fourth gold was won by Philippines Team B, composed of Lara Andrea Montales from Colegio San Agustin in Makati, Andrew Lawrence Sy from St. Jude Catholic School, Tan and Ang.
The silver medalists were Trisha Nicole Aman of Naga Hope Christian School, Naga, Camarines Sur; James Daniel Cordon and Angelo Gabriel Llamas, Paref-Southridge, Muntinlupa; Wilford Jason Julio, Martin Lewis Koa and Keith Brian Yu of St. Jude Catholic School; and Leo Emmanuel Sombiro, Solomon Integrated School de Iloilo, Iloilo City.
Philippine Teams A, C, D and E took one silver medal each in the team competitions.
The bronze medalists were Mark Davidson Cua of Pangasinan Universal Institute, Dagupan City; Caisa Subia, San Beda College-Alabang, Muntinlupa; Emmanuel Joshua Peña of La Salle Greenhills, San Juan; Joseph Ma. Francis de Leon, Blessed Lights International Christian School, Naga; Zac Tyrone Bais, ABC Learning Center, Dumaguete City; Christian Jared Balayan of St. Mary’s College, Quezon City; Paul Carlo Salise, City Central School, Cagayan de Oro City; Shawn Gabriele Cabanes, Zamboanga Chong Hua High School, Zamboanga City; Andrew Lawrence Sy, and Lara Andrea Montales.
The Math teams from South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Taiwan failed to show up during the one-day contest because of the “A(H1N1) (virus) scare,” according to a contest official.
Job well done
Ed Malaya, spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs, commended the Filipino numbers aces for a job well done.
“You made your schools and country proud with your achievements. Your significant victory reaffirms that our young math wizards can rank among the very best,” Malaya said in a text message to the members of the Philippine math team.
The team was trained by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild-Philippines (MTG), a nonprofit that aims to promote excellence in Math education in the Philippines.
Dr. Simon Chua, the MTG president and cofounder, led the delegation to the Lucknow event, which was hosted by City Montessori School (CMS), a Unicef awardee for peace education.
The Math competition is one of more than 20 international events hosted each year by the Lucknow-based CMS (student population, 37,000), which was founded in 1959 by educators Jagdish Gandhi and his wife, Dr. Bharti Gandhi.
In the 2007 Wizmic, the Philippine team won 22 medals.
According to Chua, the Wizmic “provides another opportunity for young Math wizards worldwide to gather and display their remarkable mathematical skills.”
Part of the Wizmic’s goal is to bring out the best from every participant, he said.
The competition also helps to promote world peace and unity, said Chua.
“This small circle of Math educators and young wizards are not just doing great things for the improvement of math education but also to understanding cultural diversity,” he said.
Chua invited the Wizmic participants to the Philippine International Math Competitions, scheduled for later this month in Iloilo City.
Some 22 countries have confirmed their participation in the contest, including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, Thailand, Nigeria, Bhutan, Iran, South Africa, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cyprus, Romania and South Korea.

Some 22 countries have confirmed their participation in the contest, including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, Thailand, Nigeria, Bhutan, Iran, South Africa, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cyprus, Romania and South Korea.

i think from april to september mabalod na da nga side sang panay maybe due to AMIHAN winds? (correct me if im wrong) hehehehe pero from october to march indi na na da balod because of the habagat winds... :) same man na sa Siquijor nang, during habagat winds, the island facing Dumaguete is very mabalod pero sa other side of the island indi ya mabalod ang beaches nila... hehehehe depende kung diin naga face ang beach... during AMIHAN WINDS, beaches/shorelines facing west is very mabalod while the beaches facing east is very calm... dont know lang really pero amo man lang ni ang observation ko... pero nami sa anhawan.. katawhay kag ka lapad sang SHORELINE... nami guid hampangan beach sports... :)

i still dont have an idea where the venue is but im sure Iloilo city will be flooded again by visitors from different countries... our beautiful airport will welcome them with open arms.. Speaking of airport, travellers and even first-time tourists from all over the country are busy taking pictures of Iloilo airport last Friday. i was there when we fetched our relatives from Manila in time for november 1, kadamo tawo nga naga-pose kag mamicture bisan diin nga corner sang airport... they were amazed and awed by the architectural modernity and clean design that i overheard one commented, hoping that other provincial airports in the country will be as grandiose and beautiful as our airport, it looks like Manila T2 daw, albeit a smaller version.:lol:

i guess it is but practical nga gin merge na lang ang operations sang PAL and Air Phil after all isa man lang sila tag iya. PAL is more stable and marketable, and asia's sunniest, so I find it a good move. PAL express uses small planes?

How can I forget Don Julio? Pirme namon ni nasakyan sang una pa Manila. I even remember one time our trip was delayed due to a typhoon. We have already boarded when the they informed us the ship won't sail and that passengers won't be allowed to disembark. So we end up spending the night on board. By day break, the ship was being battered by strong waves.

* saw an interview over IBC12 with former assemblyman bobby? britannico. the part of the interview na na-abtan ko was about the planned international flights from the NIA aside from the Korea and HK flights, he said he lobbied for Malaysia and Australia flights as well. most probably, these international flights (HK and Korea) will be available by year end or early next year.:cucumber:
thanks for the update, at least slowly the new iloilo airport is gaining ground to cater international flights in the future.

Because of that, he was the one who handled the CLUP of Iloilo City at a lower price. According to my source, "something to give back to the city that gave my business a spark." :)
I'm a fan too and I know he is awesome and all that but his preliminary design for the Iloilo Business park sucks. I hope he gets the chance to change it though.
The preliminary design is not approved yet during the public hearing almost two years ago. It's only giving the people of the glimpse of what would happen to the 59 hectare lot since they were doing a public consultation for the ECC application.
Mind you, they will and will modify the design itself since the construction has been pushed back.

habagatcentral1 November 2nd, 2009, 07:44 AM ^^ Kapideco's development is rather gradual than in one blow. Like what they did for Smallville area and the San Rafael-Tabucan (aka Don Nonato Pison Avenue, I guess) Road. The old CLUP has recognized it as C-3 or highly dense commercial area. I dunno about the Palafox CLUP which would be released due late this year.

Anyway, it take a lot of guts, money and political power to have the Central Market be converted into like a promenade and a commercial center...IMHO. Not unless if they are to designate the Terminal Market as the new Central Market...or have it expanded. Because we cannot complete the social regiment if we do not have a public market that is very "Filipino" in nature.

The redevelopment of the Iloilo City Central Market site into a mixed use complex.

So this is what Bernie said several threads ago of turning Central MArket into a complex... Very good planning, not only a market for goods but also spaces for offices and the like.

The Pisons are very willing gid nga ibaligya, donate, ipa-renta ang ila nga property sa San Rafael Mandurriao. Mu na for example, ang sa Smallville kag Ateneo.
Maayo na gani ini, may ara na foresight kag pagplano kag makit-an naman na sa mga constructions sa sini nga lugar.
^^ Kapideco's development is rather gradual than in one blow. Like what they did for Smallville area and the San Rafael-Tabucan (aka Don Nonato Pison Avenue, I guess) Road. The old CLUP has recognized it as C-3 or highly dense commercial area. I dunno about the Palafox CLUP which would be released due late this year.
Maayo na gani ang slowly but surely... For now, the Rotunda is already there, new roads have been built, there isnt so much panimalay sa KAPIDECO area, tulupaday lng sila Smallville, Plazuela, Megaworld, Boardwalk areas, Booming na gid ang kalaparon sang Diversion-Tabucan area... Prime Estates has already started, Smallville is on the expansion mode already with several u/c projects lined up, ano ayhan tsura sang area 5 years from now? damgo lng ta hehehe
ive seen the render of iloilo city hall in the website, is that the final one?

Philipposus November 2nd, 2009, 12:10 PM Mga migo, my account says "not allowed to post attachments". Does anyone of you happen to know why?
Haldir07 November 2nd, 2009, 12:12 PM yes, its facing the historic Plaza Libertad... if its the final render, the building looks humongous, similar to the capitol...
Haldir07 November 2nd, 2009, 12:24 PM 5 yrs from now.. wish ko lng...that area will become the little Eastwood of the province
hopefully it will... maybe there are plans right now that hasnt been publicized yet, they might still be on the drawing board in someone's offices but knowing the potential of that area and by observing how dev'ts are sprouting on every available corner in Diversion area, who knows it will happen 5 years from now..

'Tyo Tagoy' November 2nd, 2009, 02:48 PM PNOC unit forges partnerships for hydro power projects
Monday, 02 November 2009 00:00
By Euan Paulo C. Añonuevo Reporter
THE renewable energy arm of state-owned Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC) has teamed up with the private sector to build hydroelectric power plants across the country.
Pete Maniego, PNOC-Renewables Corp. (PNOC-RC) president, said that several local and foreign companies have expressed interest in the 11 hydro projects it targets to put up next year.
We have local and foreign partners lined up for our 11 hydro projects. We will sit down with them within the next few weeks for their share in the equity and project costs,” he said.
The executive declined to identify the company’s prospective partners pending any binding agreement.
PNOC-RC, however, has started preparing cost estimates for each of the project based on its pre-feasibility studies and work program.
”We are also finalizing info memo and project profiles for investors,” Maniego said.
The company’s 11 hydro projects, which the Department of Energy approved, will have a total power generating capacity of 270 megawatts.
The investment required ranges from $2.0 million to $2.5 million per megawatt.
Based on government data, a single megawatt can provide the electricity needs of a small rural town of 5,000 households.
The areas to benefit form PNOC-RC’s renewable energy projects are La Libertad, Negros Oriental (33.0 megawatts); Valencia, Negros Oriental (11.0 megawatts); Siaton, Negros Oriental (5.4 megawatts); Baco, Oriental Mindoro (18.0 megawatts); Balbalan, Kalinga (24.0 megawatts); Pasi, Kalinga (20.0 megawatts); Pasil, Kalinga (22.0 megawatts); Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental (45.0 megawatts); Calinog, Iloilo (17.8 megawatts); Kabayan, Benguet (45.0 megawatts); and Ilagan, Isabela (60.0 megawatts).
PNOC recently formed its renewables unit after it received marching orders to spearhead the development of the sector.
Grabe mga hydro power projects sa LILO ba.

true blue ilonggo November 2nd, 2009, 03:31 PM Growing number of independent coffee shops
By MARVYN N. BENANING
November 2, 2009, 6:41pm
Chit Juan, co-chairwoman of the Philippine Coffee Board (PCB), says Filipino entrepreneurs are keen on establishing their own coffee shops rather than buying franchises or becoming part of coffee shop chains.
Juan made this assessment after discussing with the many participants in the recently-held seminar entitled “How to put up a coffee shop” sponsored by PCB.
She added that PCB had to hold another seminar on October 28 to accommodate many investors who were not able to attend the first event last October 20.
“We did not expect such a huge turnout,” Juan said.
She is the head marketer of the Kape Isla brand of the seven-year old coffee body.
“We had attendees who are parents with their college graduate kids, family members planning to put up a business, balikbayans looking for investment opportunities,” Juan continued.
The cost of a coffee shop ranges from P1 million to P3 million depending on space, she stressed.
“You have to use the right equipment, professional coffee machines, and good grinders and brewers,” she added.
The entry of foreign chains in 1997 sparked the coffee shop trend which now has many brands and chains, some of them having as many as 150 outlets around the country.
Bo’s Coffee has opened its 40th store recently while the foreign-based Gloria Jeans has about 29 outlets.
Juan said many independent brands have sprung up, particularly in the provinces.
General Santos has Club 101 and Fagioli and Naga has Beanbags. Iloilo has Coffee Club and Blue Jay while Bacolod as Kafea.

Actually electicity ang main draw back in the development of Iloilo, of course added to this are the corrupt politicians. . . but with the passaing of time, nagakadula na gid man sila.

that's why there's a surge of energy and power investments in the city and province, by next year, the city's own CFPP will be operational, this is what the investors are waiting for and let's expect a boom in the local economy never seen before, it might triple the boom that we're experiencing now.:banana:

I am not sure, pero dapat sa development plan sang city upod pirme and important utilities like electricity and water. Dapat kon naplano maayo kag kon na-anticipate ang kakulangan sang kuryente in the years to come ( that was years before, in ther development plan) Iloilo sa subong siguro well developed na. Ara man ina kon kis-a sa development planners sang city, who are not elective officials. Ang elective officials ya nagahatag lang ina sang support / go signal kung okey ang plano.
