PLAZUELA DE ILOILO
Another urban facelift for bustling Iloilo City BY LEVI S. PRIMERO

ILOILO City – A new commercial development project is expected to boost this city’s and province’s economy.

The Plazuela de Iloilo, a mixed use commercial development project to rise in Mandurriao district along the Benigno Aquino Avenue, is envisioned to be a defining link from the old Hispanic town that Iloilo was, to a progressive metropolis that it is now but still very much aware of its cultural heritage.

Florete Land Inc., the owner and developer, has tapped the renowned Palafox & Associates as design architect.

Plazuela de Iloilo will have retail stores, coffee shops and restaurants totaling to almost 8,700 square meters of gross floor area.

It will have three main buildings, an administration office and a concert stage on a lot area of 12,533 square meters. Long arcaded hallways will adorn the façade.

There will also be pedestrian promenades in between buildings for better pedestrian movement and wind across ventilation.

Pazuela de Iloilo will have ample parking space, too.

To strengthen the diverse character of festivities in Iloilo the whole year round, this mixed use development project will employ a pool of fresh but relevant concepts from the usual Spanish to the Italian-European styles, easing its way to the Iloilo landscape.

The whole development will be flood-free; it will be elevated 2.05 meters from the street level.
After yesterday’s groundbreaking, construction will commence. Plazuela de Iloilo is expected to open by the later part of 2010.

Florete Land Inc. top honcho, Dr. Rogelio Florete, led yesterday’s groundbreaking./PN

the plot thickens.

This rumor heard from the grapevine simply confirms the speculation that Convergys will be one of the tenants of Iloilo Technohub, which is envisioned to be a 3-building complex. Ayalaland won't do a press release of this project if it ain't gonna materialize. This also means that the tentative construction of the Iloilo Technohub will be next year if we are to speculate from that juicy tidbit info of yours.

Gadamo nga gadamo na gasulod nga BPOs haw? is it because of the impending completion of the CFPP to end next year? ano ayhan kun mga powerplants sang una pa gintindogan diri sa city,.. I hope the entry of Convergys and PeopleSupport will all materialize and then sadya lng ta :lol::lol:

Ilonggo businessmen join
trade mission to Taiwan

SIX businessmen from Iloilo were among the 18-man delegation from Visayas that went on a trade mission to Taiwan recently.

Trade and Industry regional director Dominic Abad said among the participants were Panay Federation of the Filipino Chinese Chamber chairman Ramon Cua-Locsin and five other businessmen.

“These are missions really organized for businessmen and local government if they want to join but the goal is to have tie-ups and partnerships either in the investment area or marketing,” Abad said.

Abad expressed hope that the group was able to find partners in the sector of agribusiness, aquaculture and information technology.

He said the trip was very timely because there was a food fair in Taiwan during the mission.

“Hopefully they find partners there,” he added.

The trade mission was organized by the country’s foreign attaché in Taiwan and the central office of the DTI.

Last July, a group of businessmen from Mindanao was also sent to Taiwan for a similar purpose. (PNA)

23 Countries to Join Int'l Math Contest

MANILA ― Twenty-three countries including math powerhouses China, Russia and South Korea have so far signed up to participate in the Philippine International Mathematics Competition (PIMC), which will be held from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2 in the capital city of Iloilo in Iloilo province, about 383 km south of Manila.

The PIMC is composed of two contests: the 2009 Asia Inter-Cities Teenagers Mathematics Olympiad (AITMO) for lower secondary (or junior high school) level and the 2009 Philippine Elementary Mathematics International Contest (PEMIC).

The contest is being organized by the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG) together with the Philippines' Department of Education and Department of Science and Technology.

Dr. Simon Chua, MTG president and chief organizer of the contest, told the Korea Times that besides the three, other countries will join the contest. Among them are Singapore, Taiwan, South Africa, Albania, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nigeria, Thailand and the Philippines.

"This will be one of the biggest math competitions in Southeast Asia," he said.

South Korea's participation in the Iloilo contest is in preparation for its hosting of the 11th Invitational World Youth Mathematics Intercity Competition next year, an annual math competition that was hosted this year by the city of Durban in South Africa.

South Korean students have performed well in various international math competitions. This year, South Korea placed fourth overall in the prestigious International Mathematical Olympiad behind China, Japan and Russia. The contest, held in Bremen, Germany last July, was participated in by 104 countries.

The five-day Iloilo math contest will also include visits to Bacolod City and Guimaras Island, the latter being famous for its export-quality mangoes.

NAGA CITY --- This city has been tapped as one of the 12 Philippine cities that will participate and be featured at the Philippine Pavilion in World Expo 2010 slated to be held in Shanghai, China from May to October next year.

Ambassador Rosario G. Manalo, deputy commissioner general of the Philippine Organizing Committee informed Naga City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo that Expo 2010 “is going to be the biggest in history in terms of area, expo visitors, participating countries, and the ambitions of its theme, “Better City, Better Life.”

Nestled on a 538- hectare space in downtown of China’s most dynamic and historic city, the site is expecting to receive some 70 million visitors during the 7-month exposition.

Aside from 48 international organizations, 192 countries from the four corners of the globe have confirmed participation. The funds, estimated at P241 million from the public sector will come mainly from DOT (62%), PAGCOR, DFA, DTI, MIAA, DENR, and DOST. Another P156 million are expected to be collected from large reputable companies from the private sector to take care of the operation expenses, such as live performances, pre-expo marketing and PR activities.

Last Thursday, Oct. 29, a team from the Philippine organizing committee came to meet with Mayor Robredo for a preview of Philippine participation in the Expo. Also present whom the city mayor designated as the persons in charge and tasked with coordinating and conceptualizing ideas as far as Naga participation is concerned are City Planning Officer Willy Prilles, Naga Investment Board executive officer Reuel Oliver and Naga City Visitor Center and City Publications head Joe Perez.

The visiting team presented a brief on Philippine participation – background, objectives, roles, theme statement and vision, and the benefits of our country’s participation.

Although he admitted that he has only a few days left as sitting mayor when the Expo opens in May, 2010, Mayor Robredo pledged his full support and the city’s active participation in the event where he sees Naga playing a major role in the Expo’s September calendar when the city and the Archdiocese will be celebrating its 300th year of devotion to the Virgin of Peñafrancia.

Inside the Philippine Pavilion, Naga City will be arrayed with Iloilo, Cebu and Manila, cities known for their historic past. Other participating Philippine cities are: Puerto Princesa, Davao, General Santos, and Malaybalay, dubbed as cities on the edge; and Makati, Taguig, San Fernando (La Union), and Calbayog, labeled as cities emergent.

The Philippine Pavilion will contribute to global discussion on urbanization by urging planners and urban designers to recognize the ways people shape and use city space to express themselves, Ambassador Manalo said.

She said the twelve participating cities, aside from their unique history and character, have been noted to have performed well on the criteria of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and the World Bank’s Cities’ Development Strategy.

Baby Arenas’s son to face Syjucos in Iloilo’s 2nd DistrictBy Ronilo L. Pamonag and Maricar M. Calubiran
From left, Ramon "Citoy" Arenas, his mother Rosemarie "Baby" Arenas and Iloilo second district's political leader Dr. Rolando Padilla during yesterday's affair.
The son of socialite Rosemarie ‘Baby A’ Arenas will face the Syjucos in the battle for the congressional seat of the second district of Iloilo province.
Arenas made the announcement at a so-called acquaintance party with political figures and local leaders from the 2nd district at a hotel here yesterday noontime.
The News Today attempted to reach Sec. Augusto Syjuco, the husband of 2nd dist. Rep. Judy Syjuco, for their reaction, but the call went unanswered.

Arenas likened herself and son, Ramon popularly known as Citoy, to Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao.
My son is Manny Pacquiao, and I am Freddie Roach, she said. So the fighter always obeys what the coach says, she added.
“So it will be a KO (knockout) in election day,” Arenas boasted.
She emphasized, though, that it will be her son, Ramon, who will be calling the shots.
“I’m just like Danding (Conjuangco), who is a kingmaker,” she said.
Arenas whose mother-in-law Dona Julieta Lopez-Arenas is from Iloilo said it is high time for Iloilo to regain its glory with her son’s political ambition. She lambasted the way the political reign in the second district is run. “After the husband, the wife takes over then back to the wife, they want to cling to their post eternally,” Arenas said referring to the Syjuco couple.
Ramon, who is with the Nationalist People’s Coalition, said he will be filing his certificate of candidacy on Nov. 28, 2009, after they shall have finished consulting the people of the second district.
He is a registered voter of Barangay Tubigan in the town of Zarraga. A mestizo looking Citoy speaks good Hiligaynon.
His sister, Rachel, is currently the representative of Pangasinan’s 3rd district.
His mother said they will focus on health, education, and livelihood.
Arenas admitted that they will be going against a politically-entrenched clan of Syjucos, who, like them, have more than enough financial means to wage a political campaign.
But, she said, this isn’t just about the money, as she expressed confidence that they will defeat the Syjucos in their turf.
“God is always with us. There has been too much oppression of the poor in the 2nd district,” she stressed, as she appealed for help from the local leaders of the district.
In Pangasinan, she recalled, their enemy had guns, goons, and gold, while they, according to her, only had the people to help them.
Arenas has the support of the influential Lopez family who were also responsible for the Syjucos to reign in the second district. “The Lopezes and the Arenas maintained a good name in Iloilo and there was never a time that our names become tainted,” Arenas cited

Daw pareho man 'ni sila sang Syjuco nga gulpi man nagtuhaw sa 2nd District.

Kwarta na naman ang magalagaw!

Bidding for New City Hall December 8
By Lydia C. Pendon

ILOILO City’s bids and awards committee (BAC) has slated the bidding for the construction of the P455-million new Iloilo City Hall building.

City mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the BAC also set a 510-day construction period for the seven-storey edifice that will become the seat of the city government.
BAC member Giovanni Miraflores said the bidding will be advertised in a national newspaper on November 15-23, 2009 after which a pre-bid conference will be held on November 24. The deadline for the submission of bids will be on December 7 while the opening of bids will be on December 8.

The issuance of a notice of award to the winning bidder will be on December 18 and the contract drafting and signing will be on December 22. The issuance of notice to proceed will be on December 23.
Miraflores said that according to schedule, the most probable date for the groundbreaking ceremony will be before the end of 2009. This will also signal the start of construction at the more than 2,000-square meter lot, site of the demolished old city hall.

Miraflores said the bidding is open to all local and contractors including those with international partners.

Treñas said the budget for the project was facilitated through a loan with the LandBank of the Philippines at an annual interest of 7 percent. The amount comes in two tranches: P300 million and P105 million.

The city hall design incorporates five heritage buildings here such as the façade of the University of the Philippines Visayas, Masonic Temple, the old city hall and the Iloilo Customs House.

(PNA)

Rogelio Florete, led yesterday’s groundbreaking./PN

gwapo... i bet, mas naga cater ni ang plazuela sa mga BPOs mo. tapos secondary na lang ang mga shops and retail stores. it's about time that more ilonggo businessmen would take part in the development of the city. cheers. who would follow florete's footsteps?

Sometimes, I can't help but to feel frustrated whenever I pass by the Fort San Pedro and Tanza area. I mean, we could've had a nice view of the strait if only the place was transformed into a baywalk sort complete with a fenced-in road shoulder, promenade, restos, trees and benches. First city hotel mall notches 25th year

11/09/2009 - 10:58

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

THE first downtown hotel with a shopping mall in Iloilo City will celebrate its 25th anniversary with an auction sale of artworks of local artists and launching of the Uygongco Foundation.

The celebration will gear towards providing educational assistance to deserving children of poor families in 10 areas in the country, including four areas in Western Visayas.

"The Manny Pacquiao Blog". Click here for stories and updates on the Filipino boxing champ.

The Amigo Terrace Hotel established in 1984 by the Uygongco family is expected to complete its full renovation and additional room capacity by the middle of 2010, according to Amigo General Manager Gerard Bilbao.

Preparations are underway for its silver anniversary ceremony on December 4, 2009 with auction master Edu Manzano and entertainer balladeer Richard Poon during a dinner for a cause concert.

The program will also launch a family-oriented foundation that centered on education in six areas in Iloilo City, Manila Harbor Center in Manila, President Roxas, Capiz, Sta Maria, San Ildefonso, Calumpit and Guiguinto, all in the province of Bulacan; Aglayan, Malaybalay, Bukidnon and in Jordan, Guimaras.

Presently, the foundation has 400 scholars divided in 10 schools in Guimaras, Capiz and Iloilo City.

It is also implementing a daily feeding program in five beneficiary schools around the city and several other programs lined up for the next six years.

Events director Hazel Grace Sy said the foundation is envisioned to be a catalyst for the development of an educated, empowered and self-sustaining community in areas with the presence of the foundation.

The Amigo hotel is four-star hotel but with a first class amenities.

Owned by the Uygongco family in Iloilo with other business concerns, such as flourmill, shipping, and sugar centrals, among others, it also boasts as the first downtown hotel with a shopping mall at its ground floor where shoppers and hotel guests find easy access to buy branded clothes, household needs, cosmetics and other needs.

It has currently 100 guest rooms, including the suites at the fourth and fifth floors overlooking the city and its environs.

The ground floor serves the open space lobby and counter and the famous dine-in restaurant. The second floor houses the most modern disco facility and other specialized shops, while the third floor serves as the banquet area and function rooms for seminars and other social events.

The guest rooms are located at the fourth and fifth floors and plans are ripe for additional rooms by 2010. (PR)

i will not expect much for Plazuela since Mr Florete told the press that it will cater SMEs (though nami man siya)---but dako potential sini coz tapikanay sila sang SM City

Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) doesn't mean tiangge or something cheap or barat kind of business. Let's check the definition of what are SMEs.

In Chapter 1, Section 3 of Republic Act 6977 or the Magna Carta for Small Enterprises, SME is defined as follows:

Small and Medium Enterprises as Beneficiaries. — "Small and medium enterprise" shall be defined as any business activity or enterprise engaged in industry, agri-business and/or services, whether single proprietorship, cooperative, partnership or corporation whose total assets, inclusive of those arising from loans but exclusive of the land on which the particular business entity's office, plant and equipment are situated, must have value falling under the following categories;

.....

SMALL: P500,001 to P5,000,000
MEDIUM: P5,000,001 to P20,000,000

I hope this clears up our notion of SMEs. :)

Anyhow, and iloilo subong daw isa bala ka dalaga nga nagapatahum / nagapaseksi kay ti siguro mangin reyna sya sang isa ka lugar / o sang fiesta. Kay ti ang pagkareyna, indi man ina habang buhay kay gina-islan man ina sya. Ang reyna gane sang fiesta sang Jaro kada tuig lain lain man. . . di ba? Akon lang ini nga pensar ah! . . . he he he

yup amo gid man most of the time. lain lang sa iban ang amigo

hopefully ang pagtahum nya indi matam-an kag indi SALAMAT PO DOCTOR

yup let's not expect much since all of us almost did that sa AMIGO but eventually were dismayed except for the world class CR
but i think PLAZUELA will be much better since it will house BPOs and mostly food shops. maybe you are thinking of ukay-ukay stores nga masulod  tani indi lang

hopefully green mango can sustain it's rapid expansion rate but sa mga locations nya daw pwede gid eh.

daw kalulu-oy ang CPU kay daw wala gid maayo nga resto outside. no fastfood or medyo "okay" nga resto.sang una tani eh ang JO'S INATO

tani madayon ang INTL FLIGHTS soon, as in Decemebr na tani para "dry-run" for a peak season to come (DINAGYANG 2010).pero okay man bisan 1st Q next year na

i have confidence sa Coffeebreak bisan matupad sya sa mga big leagues.

subong isa pa lang ni ila Coaster(Donated by Dr Carmen Pama- Santos- Principal sang Hwashiong/ICCHS who graduated Summa Cum Laude from CPU)

very practical gid man tani ang coasters for the Coll of Nursing because of the nature of their curriculum. pero cguro mas barato man gyapon magbayad na lang sa jeeps or buses or vans going to their respectvie areas.
though mas "practical" nga they shoud ask help sa ila nga mga alumni for this cause. i m sure dasig lang ina. kay IMPRESARIO pa lang ..... 2 coasters na :lol:

syempre damo abi ang population nila so damo man ila kwarta. manukot lang sila sang 100 pesos fee per enrollee per sem buhi na ang coll of nursing hehehe

is it their because of the food and their service?

:banana::banana::banana:

daw indi KANSIHAN ba

dugang pa gid gutom ko :bash:
Ma-rant anay ko ah...

La lang...

same here. it's so sad that our local gov't do not see the potential of these areas na some cities do not have.

^^ some buildings and establishments by that area existed several decades ago, daw permanente na mga panimalay kag businesses, kun tane pangkwaon sila da from Tanza area-Fort San Pedro kag himuon baywalk/boulevard of some sort nami gid gwa ya... relocate nlng sila tane kay kanugon sang view sang Iloilo strait ang Guimaras island

yup. a total overhaul of the said area.
akon ya gani nga "dream" is that the PORT FACILITIES will alll be transferred sa may LOBOC then from ROTARY PARK up to the whole stretch of VILLA BEACH  will be made into one big boardwalk/boulevard/parks, establishments/etc.

dalasa man ang fishport complex eh.updon lang sila didto sa may loboc area  syempre dapat ang mga illegal settlers masolusyunan

Back in the 80's whenever we go to Villa Beach during weekends, I can see the beach from the boulevard. Sadly, Roding Ganzon allowed the proliferation of informal settlers. :ohno:

ARRIBA TIMAWA!!! :bash::bash::bash:
i was there when he was booed in front of cory aquino during the 1991 palarong pambansa opening sa sports complex :bash:

exactly my thoughts. kanugon gid ya. Someday, mgmillionaire ko, i'll do it.

while waiting for that day, taya ka man lotto who knows basi bwas millionaire ka na

Yup.

yup. last time i was there indi na gid mapuslan
naghinulsul ako gani why i brought my guests there :bash::bash::bash:
lagas ko abi view sang guimaras esp the bala-an bukid cross

tapos when i went there with chymera and lee last year, may mga nagsolicit pa sa amon na medyo aggressive. feeling mo daw may obrahon sila sa imo nga malain kon indi ka maghatag  :bash:

bisan ara lng da ang PNP Regional Office, kululbaan gihapon sang lugar
galakat-lakat ka lng kag panguha pics pero kibot ka lng may lusbot na gilid mo gapisik-pisik dugo hahaha... wala na gid gawa galakwatsa sa may Fort, ano abi didto na tanan sa SM, Rob, Smallville, etc..

gani man.irony gid kon diin pa lapit ang police hq nahadlok ka pa

if TRENAS becomes congressman cguro we can request him to improve this part of the city. bisan amat amat lang anay.:banana:

Pero happy gid ko kay ga-expand sila diri sa MM. Tatlo (3) na sila - Sampaloc St., Makati; Visayas Ave, Quezon City; and Chino Roces Ave. Ext., Makati.

no wonder didto sila naga expand. well that's good then. bringing the local specialty into the big city and looks like they're making good business

there's a sort of "magic" when restos mention a province as sporuce of their goods like iloilo, capiz, etc etc.

like Freska which says their OYSTERS are flown daily from Iloilo
and Oyster Boy (of marvin agustin) nakit-an ko man sang una nga Iloilo man ang source nila.

and Red Crab bala daw diri man sa iloilo gakuha sang crabs.
@whyte...great initiative!!! this one made me homesick! kag gulpi ko ginutom pagkakita sang pagkaon! :master::master::master:

I would love to see iconic bridges over the Iloilo River someday. I just wish our city officials can be more creative and innovative in the design of our bridges. Maybe they can incorporate hispanic elements or turn of the century architectural designs (1900s) to our present bridges. Bridges need not be centuries old to be a landmark. We can turn our present bridges into icons of the city.

Somebody, please wake me up.

Camella celebrates 10 years in W. Visayas
Massive Savannah development
November 9, 2009, 4:31pm

After 30 years of sheltering the Philippines in masterplanned, space-efficient and secure communities, Camella continues to redefine the standards of property development. A pioneer in the affordable housing segment, it has built over 200,000 homes through 87 projects – maintaining a strong presence in Metro Manila, 17 key provincial destinations, and 36 cities and municipalities.

Attesting to its nationwide reach is the massive Savannah development – a crowning achievement as Camella celebrates 10 successful years in Western Visayas and over 15 years in the Visayas region. This property occupies more than 300 hectares.

Located near the Mandurriao Church and Plaza, SM Iloilo, Jaro Cathedral and the new Iloilo Airport in Sta. Barbara, Savannah actually spans the three districts of Pavia, Oton and San Miguel.

Also within its neighborhood is the Georgia International Academy which offers pre-school, grade school and high school education. Envisioned to be a leading provider of quality education, it aims to develop citizens who will later contribute to the nation and the global community as well.

Further complementing this is the Savannah Square – an innovative concept in commercial development designed to reflect the aesthetics of the city. Savannah is known for the 21 squares or parks which express the different aspects of its history and culture.

The Savannah Square creates a unique retail area that includes access to basic needs. It will also include areas for family activities such as cinemas, trade fairs, carnivals, and sporting events.

“Savannah is developed with over 5,000 residents and over 1,000 homes built. This success has been replicated in the property developments of Camella. Within this year, it will also be launched in Canlubang, Baliwag in Bulacan, Tuguegarao, Legaspi City in Albay, and Caloocan, among others,” said Ging Quismundo, Camella head for VisMin area.

Within the Savannah development are four distinct communities – each one created for residents with diverse requirements. All adhere to the architecture of the elegant and charming American city of Savannah. The Savannah Crest, Trails, Glades and Glen respond to a variety of lifestyles designed to provide a cherished haven one would love to come home to.

The Crest has larger lot cuts ranging from 200 to 500 sqm to give owners the flexibility to build their luxury homes. The bigger space affords its residents ample areas to engage in outdoor activities like gardening and playtime for children.

Tree-lined avenues set against a flat terrain make Savannah Trails an enchanting enclave. Occupying a sprawling 50-hectare area, it is reminiscent of countryside living but with the conveniences of modern lifestyle. It features two-story homes with lot cuts varying from 120 to 180 sqm.

Tranquility reigns at The Glades at Savannah. The first development in that line, it offers luxurious houses sitting on 180-sqm lots. The homes are designed to complement the lush landscape, creating a comfortable living environment that larger families can enjoy.

Chic and compact homes make Savannah Glen ideal for starting families. Its fashionable yet space-efficient interiors complement with the bungalows’ cathedral-like ceiling and large windows, giving a feeling of space. Its lot cuts range from 70 to 132 sqm.

Savannah boasts of a complete array of amenities such as Victorian-inspired clubhouses, swimming pools, children’s playgrounds, gazebos, pocket parks and gardens, and the well-paved, and more.

:bash::bash::bash: that's disapointing to know.

It's even more disappointing finding out that your picture was stolen or published/used without any verbal or written permission and with or without the watermarks because the internet is an easy access to filed photos.:bash::bash:

And then these old people would say, "sa mga tri-media kag photo enthusiasts lang guinahatag ang media passes." Wake up, magsulod na ang dekada dies sang 21st Century...dason amu na ila pamensar...to think of it, the blog's coverage is far more reaching than local, national tv, radio and print media or traditional media.

Hi guys!

Mangungulit na naman ako. Hehehehe .... :D

I'm visiting Iloilo next year para sa Dinagyang Festival. Pero I'm arriving earlier para I can visit some of the churches in the city and other tows as well. Mahirap bang kumuha ng transportation during Dinagyang season? I'm arriving on January 21 sa morning tapos I'll be leaving on January 25 sa hapon. I'm staying at Ong Bun.

I checked the Dinagyang schedule and there seems to be a food festival along Delgado and Valeria Streets and when i looked at the map parang its near Ledesma Street where Ong Bun is. hehehe ... Just wondering if manageable pa bang gumala.gala around the city (Molo, Jaro, La Paz) and other towns (Pavia, Sta. Barbara, Cabatuan, Janiuay, Dingle, Duenas, Tigbauan, Guimbal, Miagao, and San Joaquin) ... hehehe ... :D

Thanks in advance guys! Hehehe ... :D

yep it's very possible... onle the street in the city proper would be closed... you can definitely go by jeepney in jaro, la paz, molo, mandurriao, but just to warn you, you may have to take several rides especially if some of the routes might not go from one of these district to the other... outside the city, public transport would still be plenty, jeepney, vans, buses... much of what is affected will be the routes that ply the city proper...:)

Plazuela de Iloilo: Gateway to Iloilo’s Progress and Urban Facelift
By Nonoi Ybiernas

http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/9594/plazueladeiloilo2.jpg
Dr. Rogelio Florete Sr. of Florete Land Inc. with Architect Felino Palafox Jr.

Ilonggo’s pride and visionaire Dr. Rogelio Florete Sr has once again set his eyes to his beloved city when he commissioned the internationally renowned urban planner and designer Palafox and Associate to come with a design for his proposed commercial project located at Benigno Aquino Ave. (adjacent to SM City Iloilo) that will showcase the cultural and heritage architecture of Iloilo during the late 1800’s when it was considered as the Queen City of the South. This commercial center named Plazuela de Iloilo is expected to open in October 10, 2010 exactly 11 months to completion, a record breaking time for such a huge edifice.

http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/7066/plazueladeiloilo.jpg
Groundbreaking Ceremony with the family of Dr. Rogelio Florete Sr. and members of the Construction Team.

Last November 10, 2009 the official groundbreaking was attended by Dr. Rogelio Florete Sr. and his family – wife Imelda, children Roger Jr. and Mayette. Also present were Palafox & Associates headed by Archictect Felino Palafox Jr, Archictects Francis Villagonzalo and Lito de Jesus, Engr. Arthur Lazaro; Art Builder’s Construction Inc.’s President Mr. Arthur Atienza; Amalgated Management Services, Inc. represented by Engrs. Ronie Anres and Fred Cruz; Members and Officers of the Florete Group, namely, Mr. Dante Javellana, Mr. Rico Jacomille and Mr. Warren French–Area Manager of Bombo Radyo Visayas. Also in attendance during the ceremony were the members of the press and Bombo Radyo personnel.

Plazuela de Iloilo

Being the country’s festival capital and a fast growing economic pillar, the city has become a potential commercial hub with diverse activities for the local or foreign visitor to consider as a new destination. Armed with highly-skilled manpower, an effective coastal and enviromental management program and a new Iloilo Airport, the province is undergoing a gradual urban facelift in which Plazuela de Iloilo becomes a defining link from the old Hispanic town to a progressive yet solicits cultural awareness. To strengthen the diverse character of festivities in Iloilo the whole year round, the mixed use development project will employ a pool of fresh but relevant concepts from the usual Spanish to the Italian-European Styles easing its way to the Iloilo landscpe and blending in with the local fashion.

With a lot area of 12,533 sq. mts. and a strategic location along the Benigno Aquino Ave. the development’s architectural character is inspired from the Spanish-Italian design. Long arcaded hallways adorn the facade which gives people the freedom to walk and promenade to their heart’s desire. Envisioned as “flood free” the whole development is elevated 2.05 meters from the street level. Upon entering the rotunda, 36 leasable ares composed of retail stores, coffee shops and restaurants totaling to almost 8,700 sq mts of gross floor area greet the al fresco and shopping enthusiasts. Colors such as beige, ochre yellow, peach and white are used profusely on the building’s intricate facade to create an interesting and dynamic family of structure composed of 3 main buildings, an Administration Office and a Concert stage located along Calle Florete. Pedestrian promenade are situated in between buildings for better pedestrian movement and wind across ventilation.

Plazuela de Iloilo has ample parking space which can accommodate over 100 cars for its clients and locators. Going up the second floor, 2 business processing offices (BPOs) emerge as the main tenants. This mixture of commercial and BPO units ensure that the structure is operating 24/7 and security, as well as profit is in constant circulation.

With the emergence of Iloilo as a competitive venue for trade and tourism, the future of the province looks bright as ever. And with structures such as the Plazuela de Iloilo (thanks to the vision of Dr. Rogelio Florete Sr.) mixed use commercial development, potential of a world class state is now within reach.

Small and Medium Enterprises as Beneficiaries. — "Small and medium enterprise" shall be defined as any business activity or enterprise engaged in industry, agri-business and/or services, whether single proprietorship, cooperative, partnership or corporation whose total assets, inclusive of those arising from loans but exclusive of the land on which the particular business entity's office, plant and equipment are situated, must have value falling under the following categories;

.....

SMALL: P500,001 to P5,000,000
MEDIUM: P5,000,001 to P20,000,000

I hope this clears up our notion of SMEs. :)

hehe...sorry..na stereotype na ang mga SMEs...well Good News then...:)

yup amo gid man most of the time. lain lang sa iban ang amigo
cguro ang naghimo sang renderign sang mall nila mahilig magsearch sa google

hopefully ang pagtahum nya indi matam-an kag indi SALAMAT PO DOCTOR
pero okay man ang SALAMAT pero tani bagay man bala sa iya.

yup let's not expect much since all of us almost did that sa AMIGO but eventually were dismayed except for the world class CR
but i think PLAZUELA will be much better since it will house BPOs and mostly food shops. maybe you are thinking of ukay-ukay stores nga masulod  tani indi lang

hopefully green mango can sustain it's rapid expansion rate but sa mga locations nya daw pwede gid eh.

daw kalulu-oy ang CPU kay daw wala gid maayo nga resto outside. no fastfood or medyo "okay" nga resto.sang una tani eh ang JO'S INATO

tani madayon ang INTL FLIGHTS soon, as in Decemebr na tani para "dry-run" for a peak season to come (DINAGYANG 2010).pero okay man bisan 1st Q next year na

i have confidence sa Coffeebreak bisan matupad sya sa mga big leagues.

very practical gid man tani ang coasters for the Coll of Nursing because of the nature of their curriculum. pero cguro mas barato man gyapon magbayad na lang sa jeeps or buses or vans going to their respectvie areas.
though mas "practical" nga they shoud ask help sa ila nga mga alumni for this cause. i m sure dasig lang ina. kay IMPRESARIO pa lang ..... 2 coasters na :lol:

syempre damo abi ang population nila so damo man ila kwarta. manukot lang sila sang 100 pesos fee per enrollee per sem buhi na ang coll of nursing hehehe

based on the comments/reviews we read daw amo gid man.
daw lutong bahay lang kuno tapos dugay pa ang service :bash:

P500 ang gkadto sa Student council...and there are thousands of students in CON...:lol::lol:
yup damu gid manggaranon nga alumni sa CON- one of them is Mrs Anne Catedrilla Seisa-one of the richest sa california...she has her own Health Care company now(batch 1977)...damu na ni nahatag niya sa CON...:)

Rogelio Florete Sr.) mixed use commercial development, potential of a world class state is now within reach.

nice article... i just love the last paragraph. by the way, it seems may future BPO tenant na ang plazuela ah? may hunch kamo? :)

yep it's very possible... onle the street in the city proper would be closed... you can definitely go by jeepney in jaro, la paz, molo, mandurriao, but just to warn you, you may have to take several rides especially if some of the routes might not go from one of these district to the other... outside the city, public transport would still be plenty, jeepney, vans, buses... much of what is affected will be the routes that ply the city proper...:)

thanks so much for the info! i hope i could accomplish a lot when i'm there kasi sayang ang opportunity. hehehehe ... sa jan 21, 22, at 25 lang ang plano ko na gumala.gala kasi stay put ako sa 23 and 24 kasi manonood ako ng dinagyang and kasadyahan. hehehe ... :D

Another GOOD IDEA! The City Planning and Development Board and the City Council should think several times of this dream.

That's why they hired Palafox and they also talked with the local heritage council when it comes to CLUP. It's the implementation of the plan that is we have to deal with.

Yes, we may have a beautiful CLUP...but given how the Philippines has experienced its urban blight....I hope we have learned so much from the experience of haphazard planning or no urban planning at all.

Daw sagrado nga rite ini sang APO kay may maragtas sila kon ngaa amu na ila guinahimo...daw sa una, halad nila ni para sa isa nila nga brod sang martial law days...

That's why they hired Palafox and they also talked with the local heritage council when it comes to CLUP. It's the implementation of the plan that is we have to deal with.

Yes, we may have a beautiful CLUP...but given how the Philippines has experienced its urban blight....I hope we have learned so much from the experience of haphazard planning or no urban planning at all.

hopefully pati man nag port san pedro area makit-an man sang potential ng gov't and palafox would also be involved. kon may kwarta lang ako, ako mismo mahire sa palafox or even BIGGER "developers":banana::banana::banana:

^^ it actually happened on a Saturday evening back in 1993 or 1994 (check ko pa ang date sa centralite)... tandaan ko gid mahangin that time thats why dasig naubos ang old wooden structure. ang cause: faulty electrical wiring sa mga lightings sa stage then gindakop ang kurtina kag naglamon na sa walls that are made of wood.

^^ I would like to take over the Waterfront district by force...relocate them to Bito-on or San Isidro or So-oc with better facilities and make the whole waterfront district a government center for Western Visayas regional offices, just like what they did to Cotabato City's ORC.

Then the stretch of the city proper sea coast would be reclaimed, displacing those who live in the Rizal Pala-Pala barangays and be moved/relocated to another location...

...that of course, if I have the power and will and the "flipness" of Kim Jong Il, Saddam Hussein, Joseph Stalin or Adolf Hitler or the China's first emperor Chih ShiHuangti...

Hehehe ... :D

timing ah, pwede kang makipag EB sa mga SSC peeps dito by then.

Indi lang tani kita ningas kugon sa pag-implementar.
