Iloilo: RP’s 3rd New Wave City running out of space for BPOs (http://mb.com.ph/node/234907/iloilo-rp-)
By EMMIE V. ABADILLA
December 20, 2009, 1:59pm
Manila Bulletin (http://mb.com.ph/node/234907/iloilo-rp-)

Iloilo, the country’s number 3 New Wave City, is running out of space for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) locators. At present, it hosts a dozen and the number is still going up to 14 in 2010.

“We have no more developed sites for BPOs,” Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (IFIT) Acting Chairman Jessraf S. Palmares confirmed during last week’s Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) Convergence 2009 at Sarabia Manor Hotel, Iloilo City. “The four buildings which BPOs currently use are malls whose top floors had been converted into cyberparks.”

The mall owners had no retail takers for their commercial spaces, so the call centers managed to set up shop in the areas. But it was not the way to go. “We don’t have problems with telecom or power infrastructure,” he stressed. “We have problems with the attitude of local investors. They keep on saying: If there’s a locator, we will build.”

Next year, a couple of big new BPOs are slated to start doing business in Iloilo. American BPO, Transcom, with 1,000 seats expandable to 2,000, commences operations in January. Mexican firm Qualfon, with 1,000 seats, starts operating in the second quarter of 2010. This will bring the combined capacity of the city’s BPOs to 7,000-8,000 seats.

However, “Iloilo has run out of space,” the IFIT chairman reiterated. “We are lobbying with the private sector to convert empty lots. Plans for a 6-story building in the Iloilo IT park has been mothballed for the past 2 years but there’s 8 hectares within the city which could be converted into a cyberpark. For the past 3 years, Megaworld has also declared they will start developing a 50-hectare Central Business District (CBD) in the old airport.”

The local offshoring and outsourcing (O&O) industry hauled in $7-billion revenue last year. In 2010, the sector targets to corner 10 percent of the global market. However, to achieve this, it needs to hire 1 million new employees.

Hence, the CICT thrust to encourage growth in the IT business in the top 10 next wave cities in the country – Iloilo, Metro Laguna, Metro Cavite, Davao, Bacolod, Pampanga Central, Bulacan Central, Cagayan de Oro, Bulacan South, and Lipa.

“While Filipino talent was a positive factor in making us a preferred O&O destination, the focus on building in the NCR areas has limited the universe for human resources,” according to Bayan Telecommunications Inc.’s Vice President for Business Chito Franco. Bayan hosted the Iloilo leg of Convergence 2009. “We believe in Iloilo’s capability to develop talent. We’ll support the city’s telecom infrastructure needs so it can connect to other regions and to the rest of the world.”

Indeed, “The primary factor for growth is talent,” noted Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP) Executive Director Atty. Ma. Jamea S. Garcia. Ironically, while 80 percent of the country’s BPO workforce is in Metro Manila, the metropolis only produces 20 percent of the IT graduates nationwide. “All BPO activities in the Philippines are concentrated in Metro Manila. In India, they are dispersed. We are encouraging BPOs here to do the same. We want to bring the work where the talent is.”

The main draw of Iloilo is its human resources, Palmares confirmed. The city of 1 million turns out 20,000 graduates per year, of which 5,000 are IT graduates. “Iloilo is the center of education in the Visayas. We have 8 universities, so students from Negros and as far as Mindanao, migrate here. They fly in direct and prefer to study here instead of studying in Manila to save on cost. That’s also why even the BPO locators in Bacolod put up job fairs here. They are sourcing their manpower in Iloilo.”

“We want to be the conduit between business and academe,” he continued.

But they have a lot of things to do. “We need more IT graduates. The growth of our enrollees in IT and IT- related courses average 12 percent, from 3,000 to 5,000 per year.
We need to re-do the basic courses, develop training programs and certifications with BPAP. We also want to improve the competency of graduates in web management and web development. The hiring rate for BPOs is only 5 per cent of graduates.”

It was only four years ago that BPOs started locating in Iloilo. Callbox and e-Ventus were the first to come. Now the dozen BPOs in the city have a combined capacity for 5,000 seats, catering mostly to American clients. Some 30 percent of them focused on the non-voice business, medical transcriptions, legal transcriptions and software development.

“Definitely, we need to set aside political squabbles, collaborate with the local government and the private sector to identify and develop IT parks in Iloilo,” the IFIT Chairman concluded.

Iloilo bags overall WVPRISAA title

Even the twin gold medals from men's basketball and football failed to boost Negros Occidental's chances in the overall medal tally as Iloilo team collected a total of 150 gold, 93 silver and 41 bronze medals to dominate this year's edition of the Western Visayas Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association that ended yesterday in Roxas City, Capiz.

Represented by NOPSSCEA athletes, Negros finished with a lean collection of 82 golds, 124 silvers and 35 bronzes.

Host Capiz was at third place with 18-17-117 gold-silver-bronze tally while Aklan claimed the fourth spot with 1-9-37 finish and Antique at fifth place with 0-6-6 tally.

Iloilo 's medal haul came mostly in swimming with 35-10-5 in men's division and 14-20-7 in the women's department. NOPSSCEA managed to salvage one gold medal, 20 silvers and 5 bronzes in the men's competition and 22-12-9 in women's side.

In taekwondo, Iloilo collected 4-3-0 in men's division and 3-2-2 in women's category, while NOPSSCEA finished 3-1-1 in men's events and 4-1-3 in women's.

Iloilo also took the crown in both men and women's volleyball while grabbing 16 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze medals in men's athletics.

Karatedo was another golden mine for Iloilo where the team produced 6 gold medals as compared to Negros ' lone gold medal output.

Bemedalled athletes of the competition were Joseph Biñas of Iloilo and Jenelyn Progio of Capiz who ruled their separate events in athletics.

Binas, a sophomore marine engineering student of Western Institute of Technology, won seven gold medals -- 400 meters, 400 hurdles, 110 hurdles and 100 meters – and anchored the Iloilo team that won the gold in classical relay, 4x200 relay and 4x800 relay.

Trenas not weakened by Pavia housing issue
By Maricar M. Calubiran

CITY Mayor Jerry Trenas is not demoralized by issues hurled against him by his political opponents particularly the P130 million Pavia housing project. “Ilonggos are worth fighting for.”

The issue on the P130 million indicting the mayor for graft and corruption popped up last week. The Ombudsman allegedly has handed down a resolution implicating the mayor on the controversy. This was denied by Trenas.

Trenas said if the issue on the multi-million housing scam was his price for pursuing his political ambition, “then be it.” Let it be, if there are people who are masters in making life miserable for other people.”

The mayor said running for congressman this May 2010 elections is a very difficult decision he had made. “My love for the city and the Ilonggos pushed me to run.”

Trenas is running against incumbent Congressman Raul Gonzalez Jr. He defected from the Lakas-Kampi-CMD and joined the Nacionalista Party (NP)

The decision to run against his former allies will eventually free the city and the people from the bondage of oppression, persecution and harassments. “I have already crossed the bridge,” said Trenas.

The mayor said he could have goes back to his private practice as a lawyer and yet the call of the people was so strong that he was not able to ignore. It is not the greed for power that prompted my decision to run, he said. “I am not an old man that clings and wants to stay in power.”

The issues and allegations hurled against him are indications of what kind of leaders his political opponents are. “There is much to be done in order to attain the vision of making Iloilo City a premiere city in 2015,” said Trenas.

RAUL WILL BUY THE COMELEC

IN his meeting with his barangay captains yesterday at the Grand Hotel, Iloilo City, “king” Raul said the following:
“We have unlimited funds: P100 million for the congressional candidate, P100 million for the mayoral candidate, and P20 to P50 million for City Comelec.”
“In short, baklon niya ang mga taga-Comelec,” our source said.
Since he has plenty of money, as always, Raul will also buy votes.
Tapos na ang hampang. Daog na si the “king!”
i hope this will not happen. People of Iloilo City should do something to make this man out of the city. Indi gid magpadala sa baklanay boto kay we will suffer gid sa ulihi.

I don't know whether I'll take this article in a positive or negative way --- positive in a sense that there are many BPOs awaiting spaces to invest in the city, meaning the demand is really high .... at the same time, it will give signal that we don't have further spaces to cater them. I hope Iloilo City will continue to rise on this issue and our local businessmen to help in answering the call for more BPO sites. We need more jobs for our fellow Ilonggos.

Pavlova or 'pav' is a meringue cake with a light, delicate, crisp crust and a soft sweet marshmallow center that is produced by folding a little vinegar and cornstarch (cornflour) into stiffly beaten egg whites and sugar. This dessert is served with softly whipped cream and fresh fruit.

There is a long standing debate about whether New Zealand or Australia invented this dessert, which has yet to be resolved. What we do know is that the name, Pavlova, was chosen in honor of the Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova, who toured both New Zealand and Australia in 1926. (courtesy of www.joyofbaking.com).

PINK PEPPER
By Ramon C. Salvilla

Los Papas Grill opens

Your Pink Pepper and TNT’s Menen Sang-alan graced the opening of Los Papas Grill recently and we were met by its owners, Joann and Alex Bañares and their children Clarissa, Nicole and John Raphael.

The blessing was officiated by Rev. Fr. Salty dela Rama, SJ and with special guests Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog and the children of Mayor Jerry Treñas.

There, we enjoyed a buffet of delectable dishes like Baby Back Ribs, Prime Back Ribs, Prime Rib Steak, T-Bone, Ox Tongue, Burger Steak, Barbecues, Tuna Belly, Boneless Bangus and Crispy Pata.

The Banares couple said that the inspiration in opening the restaurant came from the Papas restaurant in the United States. Also, they love to eat.

“At Los Papas Grill, diners will like the great tasting steaks, barbeque and seafoods at very reasonable price. They must also try our Pinapatok na Tilapia and Bulalo famous from Batangas.” The restaurant also has an excellent collection of wine and liquor.

The al fresco restaurant also has an air conditioned dining room. Diners will be entertained by an acoustic band.

Los Papas Grill is located at Yulo Drive Arevalo, Iloilo City and open from 10 AM. to 10 PM daily and accepts reservation for any occasion. Please call 09081633849 or 09086098160.

- Plazuela De Iloilo's Field Office is now up and running!:banana:
Interested parties can now inquire at that site.
So kun sino makakwa info bout its tenants, pwede da ka ask. (i think) hahaha.

- Two stores sa 2nd floor sang SM ANNEX are now ready for occupancy. And may isa ka shop area sa front side nga daw two floors for one tenant lang. I hope that will be SB's shop.

I'll be out of updates till January 4. So I'll have to rely on you guys for a while. And based on my 5 years of lurking and reading here, I won't get behind any update at all.:cheers:

I see this as very very normal on the eve of Election months these days. Incumbent public officials being kicked out from their positions a few months before the elections or filing cases against them. This seems to be a very normal trend when Election nears.

The loophole there though, you may kick them out of the position but they can still run as a public official and commence his/her fresh new term in the public office.

I just hope that I wouldn't see another political drama like the one in the Iloilo Capitol, not so long ago.

Taking shots of the awesome display.

Hundreds of Ilonggos from all walks of life waited for this grand event and gathered as one to witness a magical night.

And everyone counted … 5… 4… 3… 2… 1! Then, everyone was spell bound by the vibrant flares that danced in the sky while Christmas melodies played during the First Iloilo Supermart Pyromusical Showdown of 2009 in Iloilo City.

Three highly acclaimed pyrotechnical teams from around the country competed for the title of the Best Pyroteam. The crowd cheered everytime they witnessed a spectacular display and decided on who their favorite team was. All three teams captured the awe and admiration of the Ilonggos but it was Team Nestle, powered by Peacock Fireworks that was declared the champion.

Iloilo Supermart had been annually hosting a fireworks display for 15 years and this 2009’s presentation raised the bar. The company made this the grandest ever with the support of Nestle, Procter and Gamble Phils, San Miguel Corporation, Unilever, Coca-cola, Meadjohnson and GMA.

Iloilo Supermart will never stop giving the best for the Ilonggos. After the challenges the Ilonggos has surpassed this year, a new beginning awaits every one of us. The Pyromusical Showdown 2009 at Iloilo Supermart. Kay sa aton lang guid ini! Happy Holidays!

Here's the answer to your question: :D

Merry Christmas! Just came from Pampanga. I saw a large water colour panorama of two paintings done by Chef Claude Tayag...one for Kalibo Ati-Atihan, the other for Iloilo Dinagyang.

A Kapampangan by birth and by heart, he has very high regards and respect with Ilonggo cuisine and its people. He has been coming back there for several times and the food didn't failed him.

And I think he made an article just a few weeks ago. He is related to the Saldañas of Saint Paul Hospital and Isla Naburot. :)

Iloilo has the Scorpions Fireworks who won second runner-up in the 21st Macau International Fireworks Display Contest last October.

Don't know if Scorpions joined the Iloilo Supermart Pyromusical Showdown.

good move for Mang Inasal and Decos - and for Amigo as well. Amigo is doing good to re-align and change some of its tenants. They need bigger names to make the mall really works. And with two BPOs setting their sites in Amigo, Amigo Mall is an apple of the eye of food stores and resto in the coming years.

Manuel Pangilinan bought Savior Hospital, who also happens to own Riverside Hospital in Bacolod and Medical City. Am not sure if he also owns St. Lukes.

Metro Pacific, an Indonesian-owned and controlled conglomerate and headed by Manny Pangilinan, is the biggest stockholder of Makati Medical Center (MMC).

The Lopezes used to have substantial shares with The Medical City (TMC) but has offloaded much of their holdings already.

St. Luke's Medical Center (SLMC) is an independent non-stock, not-for-profit corporation founded by the Episcopal Mission in the Philippines.

About Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, I think the Torre's rescinded from the plan of selling it to the Yuchengcos. I haven't heard of anything about the hospital being sold to MetroPacific/Pangilinan.

----------

With the realization of the partnership between Saviour International Hospital and The Medical City, I'm sure our city will greatly benefit from it.

After electricity woes, it's real estate that is now the challenge.
Demand is there, so they should go ahead and move. But at the same time, I hope that the advent of opportunities of BPO would result in a culture mindset change that would turn the reactive Ilonggo businessman, into a pro-active businessman.

Hi Kasimanwa,

Today was my first day sa city after pila ka months na wala guid ako kabalik balik. And i as so surprised that there's a lot of developments sa city for the remainder of the year. 2010 will be next best thing to happen. Though i noticed a few things:

No Starbucks yet! - I hope we can have one na guid. pirmi lang sabat sang mga taga Starbucks are na sa pipeline ang Iloilo. 2008 ko pa ina nabatian. I know some Starbucks employees in Boracay that i spoke with before and they're slated to work for the Iloilo Store but wala man guihapon. :-(

2nd Flyover project - Is it really working? The most recent photo that i saw here was the crane. And when i passed by there earlier, crane man guihapon. I am actually a bit worried because if they will delay the construction duration, traffic will be our main problem in that area. Another question - Mas laba guid man bala ang flyover dira as compared sa General Luna?

SM Annex - I hope may ma lease na guid dira. :-)

Plazuela - Wow, the construction is so fast. And the Publicity, grabe. I hope it will not turn out as a disappointment.

Your thoughts guys...

Happy holidays!

^^maybe because the "id" part of you (subconcious) likes her bitchiness. but your ego part (semi-conscious) tells you, you don't because of her bohemian personality.

i think this is what you call "ambivalence". displaying two opposite feelings toward a person at the same time.

Ayala Land unveils 2010 plans in multiple growth centers

(The Philippine Star) Updated December 27, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Fresh from meeting 2009 head on in the face of global economic recession, the country’s most trusted real estate company
, Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) goes full throttle next year with a more aggressive posture.

Ayala Land takes on 2010 with the most number of new projects to be launched within a single year ever. Antonino T. Aquino, Ayala Land president, announces new initiatives on the establishment of multiple growth centers across the Philippines to bring to more areas the well-recognized expertise of Ayala Land in enhancing land, enriching lives. He says, “We’ll have the busiest year ever as we’re expanding in geography, in the products that we offer including new business lines and in the market segments that we cater to. There will be a dynamic interplay of our projects and where we used to be focused only on the traditional segments, now we’ll be expanding for the benefit of our customers.”

There is no landscape too small or too large to change

“We are thinking of more than a dozen different locations, starting off in the North with Baguio, Angeles in Pampanga, Subic and in five locations in Southern Philippines namely Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Iloilo and Bacolod. We are making sure that we are coming around with product offerings that are best suited for the market and which will show the best practices that Ayala Land is known for,” he states, as he proceeds to give an overview of activities to take place.

In Baguio next year, the retail area and the BPO complex will begin development in Camp John Hay, allowing customers to enjoy the natural beauty of Baguio. Meanwhile in Subic, a bustling development will arise with a mix of retail, BPO and residential components.

In Pampanga, the company relishes the market acceptance of the Marquee mall in levels beyond expectations. “In the pipeline for the area is a very nice residential development right across the mall. It will be a mid-rise project with a Serendra feel,” enthuses Aquino.

With the successful expansion this year of Ayala Center Cebu with The Terraces, the company is set to have its first foray with Alveo and Avida offerings in the first quarter in Cebu.

Meanwhile in Davao, where Ayala Land jumpstarted its entry with the lifestyle mall, Abreeza Mall, new residential developments are slated to be launched coupled with a BPO complementary project, states Aquino. Similar mixed-use developments are also planned for in Cagayan de Oro.

Northpoint, a project of Ayala Land Premier in Bacolod, will host a new commercial development along the main road fronting it, making the area a multiple growth center. Aquino points out, “The whole idea behind our multiple growth center strategy is to highlight our mixed-use experience as a major differentiator of our organization. We’re known for how we masterplan things and how our projects develop into excellent growth centers, bringing in a new lifestyle.” This will also be realized in the mixed-use project to be developed in Iloilo.

In the Greater Manila Area, where Ayala Land focused largely in Makati and in the South, year 2010 sees the company pushing thru with plans for development covering the North Triangle area in Quezon City. Ayala Land again manifests its expertise in master planning, envisioning for the city a thriving business district that Quezon City still needs to date. “We want this to happen in a shorter time as we know there are business locators and partners who would like to see the priming of the area accomplished soonest,” Aquino declares.

A piece of land is never just a piece of land

In line with bringing in a new lifestyle, first off to be introduced as a new product in the retail segment will be the neighborhood and community centers. These will be quaint shops and retail establishments that will support residential and BPO developments. Ayala Land is also exploring hotels and tourism-related products to expand its portfolio.

Expansion projects and the opening of new phases of other existing developments are also set to go on full swing.

Ayala Land’s continued redevelopment of Ayala Center is brought to another exciting stage with the opening of the Ayala Triangle Gardens. According to Aquino, this will be the starting point for ramping up the Makati Central Business District with projects that will include upgrading the Glorietta retail center as well as launching a high-end residential play for Ayala Land Premier in that area, very much like how The Residences at Greenbelt (TRAG) is just a walk away from the mall. Other new residential offerings by Alveo will be in the office enclaves of Salcedo and Legaspi Villages. “These are excellent follow-throughs for the continued upscaling of the areas in Makati,” he describes.

The Bonifacio Global City (BGC), more popularly recognized as the Home of Passionate Minds, will witness Bonifacio High Street’s expansion to complete its 1-kilometer development plan to end closer to the Mind Museum, which will be the best science museum in the country. Also known as the “live, work, and play” zone, the city will likewise witness next year the addition of another building offering a total of 31,000 sqms of BPO space along with the launch of Avida Towers BGC and a new phase of Two Serendra, The Meranti.

Alabang will in turn follow thru with enhancements at the Alabang Town Center with an additional retail complex featuring department stores
and supermarkets. Aquino added that Avida Towers Alabang will also be launched.

Further South in Laguna, the country’s first eco-community and now regarded as the nation’s sustainability capital in Ayala Land’s portfolio, NUVALI, earlier enjoyed highly successful take-up for its Ayala Land Premier (ALP) offerings: Abrio, Montecito and recently Santierra.

The sterling record provided fresh proof of Ayala Land’s ability to offer unique and highly-valued propositions to the high-end market. Where Ayala Westgrove Heights and Ayala Greenfield Estates further South fulfilled desires for lakeside sceneries, rolling hills and orchard-like environments, these new ALP offerings in NUVALI addresses particular aspirations for sustainable lifestyles.

Alveo will also be launching a project in NUVALI in the 2nd quarter of next year, while Avida will be expanding with Avida Settings Phase 4 and introducing new projects, Avida Village NUVALI and Avida Estates NUVALI.

Aquino also announced the introduction of more retail elements in NUVALI alongside the Sta.Rosa-Tagaytay road, with the construction of a new supermarket that enhances the Solenad retail area which has already scored distinct success in its provision of dining, shopping and convenience retail in the area.

“We expect NUVALI’s overall retail success and launch of residential developments to add to the attractions of One Evotech as a premium space for BPO locators,” states Aquino as he reveals the addition of the second BPO building next year.

Avida will be very busy launching some new phases in its existing developments, like Tower 5 for Avida Towers New Manila, Tower 5 for Avida Towers San Lazaro, and Tower 7 in Avida Towers Sucat, all to be launched in the 1st quarter and Avida Settings Phase 2 in Cavite in the 2nd quarter.

Cebu’s Amara and Alegria Hills in Cagayan De Oro will likewise see the addition of new phases.

A testament to enriching lives for more people

To top if all off, Ayala Land will be coming up with a breakthrough by launching projects in 2010 entering a new market segment. Aquino announces, “As part of being socially-responsible and contributing to nation-building, more will be benefiting from Ayala Land’s quality and level of service through ‘Amaia’. This is categorized as the economic housing line of Avida, ushering Ayala Land’s entry into a wider market—the very people who need us more. Amaia will offer house and lot packages with prices ranging from P700,000 to P1.3 million, to provide them with a high-quality product for their hard-earned money.” Amaia presents its maiden offerings in Laguna early next year.

“As we continue to finetune our products, our core competency on masterplanning is our distinct advantage and we want more and more people to benefit from this. This is part of our key thrust for the years to come, corporate social responsibility. This will be more integrated into Ayala Land’s business models, not as dole-outs but being more powerful as a driver for economic growth.” declares Aquino.

laban-laban this coming new year guid ma start ang ayala technohub... hehehe.

Tourists now flocking to Tibiao fish spa in Antique
By Nestor P. Burgos Jr.
Inquirer Visayas

Filed Under: Philippines - Regions, Economy and Business and Finance, Massage
THE quiet town of Tibiao in Antique has not been the same since a fish spa opened in June.

Thousands of local and foreign tourists have flocked to the town proper, 75 kilometers north of the capital town of San Jose, to experience the much talked-about spa which features small fishes that nibble on dead skin, calluses and cuticles, creating a soothing sensation.

Rex Dianala, co-founder of the Tibiao Fish Spa, said more than 2,000 guests had visited the spa as of October, barely four months since it opened in June.

While the bulk are from Antique and neighboring provinces, many visitors, including foreigners, came all the way from Manila.

Many of them were attracted by news reports, both local and international including an Inquirer front-page piece in August, Dianala said in an e-mail.

“It was flattering to know they came all the way to Tibiao just to check out the fish spa they read about,” he said.

The spa, one of a few of its kind in the country, utilizes an indigenous fish species in Tibiao, unlike the imported ones in fish spas in Manila and Boracay Island.

P20 minimum charge

The Tibiao health resort is also popular because it charges a minimum of only P20 for 10 minutes and P2 for every succeeding minute. Students are charged a discounted rate of P1 per minute.

The spa was founded by Flord Calawag, a marine fisheries graduate from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV) in Miag-ao, Iloilo, who discovered last year that a kind of fish from a friend’s mountain pond created a soothing sensation while nibbling on dead skin.

The project was supported by Dianala and Victor Marco Emmanuel Ferriols, Calawag’s close friends and former classmates.

Both aquaculture fisheries majors, Ferriols and Dianala helped in the technical setup and operations, including designing the filtration and aeration systems.

Tour packages

Dianala said the group had started organizing tour packages for those who want to experience the spa and other attractions in Tibiao, including fishing, brick and pottery making, and trekking the popular Bugtong Bato Falls.

Located at Calawag’s house along the national highway in the town proper, the spa has also generated local employment. Calawag is organizing motorcycle and tricycle drivers to provide transport for their tours.

The spa operators have also asked fisherfolk, as well as brick and pottery makers, to provide them with extra income from the resort visitors.

Students of the UPV’s College of Management Marketing Society have also helped in the spa’s business planning and marketing.

‘Nonprofit’

Because of the cheap rates, the students described the spa more as a “nonprofit organization” rather than a business, Dianala said.

“We realize it’s quite true so we might, with some hesitation, slightly increase our rates by next year to keep our endeavors sustainable. Of course, we will still make sure we are the ‘fish spa for the masses,’” he said.

Investors have continuously approached Calawag for a possible expansion in Iloilo, Boracay, Cebu and Manila.

Calawag said in an earlier interview that he would maintain the spa in Tibiao until its fish species and technology are patented. But Dianala said expansion could come soon because of the spa’s fast growing popularity.

“Our first priority now is to expand to Iloilo and eventually to other parts of the region. With this, we will be able to share the affordable fish spa experience with them,” Dianala said.

Plazuela will click as well as SM Annex and i think may tenants na da sila..
2nd flyover gastart na construction, this is better comapred to no developments of the flyover at all

THE quiet town of Tibiao in Antique has not been the same since a fish spa opened in June.

Thousands of local and foreign tourists have flocked to the town proper, 75 kilometers north of the capital town of San Jose, to experience the much talked-about spa which features small fishes that nibble on dead skin, calluses and cuticles, creating a soothing sensation.

.............

With this, we will be able to share the affordable fish spa experience with them,” Dianala said.

good business move kung matabo. I hope they'll start the expansion soon. "Strike whilst the iron is hot". And Iloilo City is the bed of new investments lately so they'll ride on with the growing economy of the city. Best location I suppose will be in Smallville area. With 3 hotels in the area soon, they'll already have a good bulk customers waiting.

Here's the answer to your question: :D

And I think he made an article just a few weeks ago. He is related to the Saldañas of Saint Paul Hospital and Isla Naburot. :)
i'll pay them meself. hahahaha. Amo gid ina bulday sa aton kay malubag gid ang iban sang kuwarta. I hope we will learn our lesoon from the past. I'm hoping and praying that Ilonggos will choose the right person to lead them to prosperity.

si king raul pa....

and btw, nakakuha na gid man P50,000 bonus ang mga employees sa capitol this week and gatumbo-tumbo gid sila after pila sa ATM and ubosay withdraw ang P50,000... wait lang sila kung makalab-ot na sa COA kay sukton man na sila gihapon liwat or else they'll face administrative cases. that P50,000 bonus is inde santo sa guidelines sg Commission on Audit. also daw may forces behind that, manug election pa daan.

whew....... just woke up after 15 hours of deep slumber...

back to sleep ko anay...
kaya man lang gali sang probinsiya maghatag sang 50,000 bonus kay. Indi gid iya mapa-pierde ang probinsiya sa ciudad. If the city can give 30,000 pesos bonus, ang probinsiya singkuwenta gid. But to be fair, mas maayo pa ang obra sang mga empleyado sang city hall kumpara sa empleyado sang capitol kay ang probinsiya kahina sang ila collection. I hope with this bonuses kay-uhon man nila ila serbisyo.

Glad that we have good fireworks manufacturer in the region.

Iloilo has the Scorpions Fireworks who won second runner-up in the 21st Macau International Fireworks Display Contest last October.

Don't know if Scorpions joined the Iloilo Supermart Pyromusical Showdown.

Sin-o ang mga nag-intra sa Iloilo Supermart Pyromusical Showdown?

Hope to see the Peacock Fireworks join the Luces in the Sky on January 2010 to prove that we have the best fireworks manufacturer here in our region.

@demonoid724, maayo kay nakatulog ka sang mahamuok. Hang over ka pa? :)
Ako 'ya wala ko kapuli sa Iloilo bangud may ginaasikaso pa ko sa work ko diri sa piyak nga isla.
Merry Christmas sa imo.
contest na ni subong ang iya sa Iloilo Supermart Pyromusical? Baskog ang IS ba? As said earlier this pyromusical is becoming a growing interests for all Ilonggos and visitors during December. Siempre we could not deny that there are areas in the city and several towns vying to become the Christmas rendezvous for all.

^^ Halong kag enjoy. I noticed that Iloilo, Cebu and Kalibo doesn't end up their celebrations by Christmas and New Year as they are to celebrate the feast of the Santo Niño. Now I was thinking, tunga-on ayhan ang 13th month pay kon amo ni or lets have it that way? Kay December to February gid ya ang pinaka-makonsumo nga bulan sa Iloilo...in terms of consumer spending that is, IMO.
tuloy-tuloy ang fiestas sa tatlo ka probinsiya. There's more to expect by January with Iloilo extending the festive season till February or March for the Paraw Regatta.

So now that this has been done, let's do away with posting happy new year greetings in the coming days :D.

That's good! I think by next year they will be preparing for the expansion plan na.

good move for Mang Inasal and Decos - and for Amigo as well. Amigo is doing good to re-align and change some of its tenants. They need bigger names to make the mall really works. And with two BPOs setting their sites in Amigo, Amigo Mall is an apple of the eye of food stores and resto in the coming years.
i totally agree. This is a good move for Mang Inasal and Decos considering that two of them are forerunners of Ilonggos fastfood chains. The eralier they'll set up their place in Amigo, the better. Mas na gid kung makauna sila dira before Transcom starts operating and another call center will enter the area, too. Kung matabo, dako gid ang ila market dira sa Amigo. How I wish the mall is big enough for more expansion. Tani baklon na lang nila ang area sa tabuk (appliance store) for expansion of their mall, office spaces and hotel. Butangan lang nila ang skyway, puwede na.

----------

With the realization of the partnership between Saviour International Hospital and The Medical City, I'm sure our city will greatly benefit from it.
good business move by Saviour. Whew!

This will be more integrated into Ayala Land’s business models, not as dole-outs but being more powerful as a driver for economic growth.” declares Aquino.

laban-laban this coming new year guid ma start ang ayala technohub... hehehe.
that's nice of Ayala. I'm thinking on how and what of this mix-use development. If this happen, then we will not be only seeing a Technohub, probably more. Pinoy favorite

The family get-togethers are much a Filipino tradition as Mang Inasal, which has been serving nothing but Pinoy favorites for the past six years.

Its three TVCs show why. First, there’s one showing endorser Mark Bautista attesting to the fact that he always looks for a Mang Inasal branch, especially when the province-bred singer first stepped foot in Manila.

Another TVC shows Bhoy (yes, he reminds you of Boy Abunda) looking into his magic mirror. He reveals the secret of using chicken oil with your favorite Mang Inasal dish. A third TVC shows a very familiar scene: using one’s hands to enjoy a mouth-watering Inasal dish.

The last two TVCs show a friendly guy asking two customers hunched over a table if they want an extra serving of rice. This is so because Mang Inasal offers unlimited rice on top of its very Filipino dishes and refreshments, which goes by the catchy name "Pinoy Palamig."

The best part is that this unlimited rice feature is found in all 200 Mang Inasal branches all over the country.

"We’re aiming for another 100 branches in 2010. In the next five years, we’re looking at 100 branches a year nationwide," says Edgar "Injap" Sia II, the man behind it all.

Sia started Mang Inasal in Iloilo, where its scrumptious barbecued chicken, meats and seafood became such hits, expansion in Manila became inevitable. Today, Mang Inasal is a hit. And all because an unassuming man down South once dreamt of spreading the gospel of authentic Ilonggo cuisine, first to his townmates, then, to the entire country.

It took a lot of hard work and calculated risks, but it was worth it.

As Mark says, "Mang Inasal is very hardworking. They give it all. They are persistent and aggressive. They want to succeed in the industry."

That’s Mang Inasal’s recipe for success in the ever-expanding food business with giant foreign brands competing for a slice of the pie.

WV region hosts dignitaries in 2009
By PERLA G. LENA
December 27, 2009, 2:53pm

ILOILO CITY (PNA) – Western Visayas could be one of the most visited places in the country by various foreign dignitaries not only to visit its tourist attractions but also to extend support to several significant programs and projects in trade and agriculture. The region is full of potentials for such economic activities.

Iloilo and Aklan, the latter because of Boracay Island, are the top two destinations of foreign envoys during their visit to the region.

The first to visit Iloilo was South African Ambassador to the Philippines, Pieter Andries Vermeulen and his wife Christina.

During his visit on February 20, Vermeulen said that he looked forward to the development of the agriculture industry not only in terms of trade but also in research once the proposed bilateral agreement on agriculture between his country and the Philippines has been finalized and adopted.

The cooperation was initiated last year and both countries "are fairly close to finding an agreement on the text," according to the South African envoy.

Another area of cooperation between the two countries is on biofuels, particularly where jatropha is concerned. Vermeulen revealed that there are already South African and local companies jointly doing research on biofuels.

United States Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney has also been to Iloilo to meet with victims of typhoon "Frank" in Pavia town and several other groups extended assistance by the US government.

In addition, she also joined US Peace Corps Volunteers deployed in Guimaras, Iloilo and Antique who are working in the areas of education, youth development and environmental conservation and protection and helping improve lives of citizens and children through partnership with local institutions. At the same time, the US Ambassador interacted with selected students of the Jaro National High School in Jaro, Iloilo City where one Peace Corps Volunteer was assigned to co-teach the English language.

Several Ilonggo World War II veterans were also given a chance to interact with Kenney when she viewed the photo exhibits of the Liberation of Panay, Guimaras and Romblon, among the places where the fiercest battles against the Japanese Imperial Forces happened 64 years ago. Said photo exhibits were mounted at the SM City, Iloilo.

Also visited by Kenney was Teletech, a United States business process outsourcing (BPO) company employing some 1,600 Ilonggos. Teletech was inaugurated by President Gloria Arroyo in March.

Almost a month after the visit of Ambassador Kenney, Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Rod Smith set foot in Iloilo City and Guimaras for a series of engagements.

Smith led in the turnover of 15 computer units for Jaro National High School (JNHS) which was part of the response received by the Iloilo City government when it called for help in the rehabilitation of schools submerged or destroyed by floodwaters caused by typhoon Frank.

All of the JNHS’s 65 computers were damaged.

The donation by the Australian Government benefits some 3,000 students of the school.

Smith also graced the launching of Phase II of the "Ready" project or the Hazards Mapping and Assessment for Effective Community-Based Disaster Risk Management that "aims to empower the most vulnerable municipalities and cities in the country and enable them to prepare disaster risk management plans."

Absolutely space...kay kanami sang mga lugar pakadto sa Norte pero ngaa kulang ang promotion kag daw mahina ang turismo. Layo gid kaayo ang parte South kay sa balay pa lang makita mo dayon nga asenso gid.
that's right. We need more and more promotion for these places to tourists. I hope the next governnor of Iloilo province will look at the tourism potential of the province and to spur its tourism strategies to entice visitors, tourists and dignitaries to come and visit Iloilo.

World Bank to fund city’s dump site project

ILOILO CITY -- The World Bank is expected to provide P10 million for the soil cover of the city dump site.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the amount will be added to the initial P10-million funding from WB to develop a biological and technological park at the site in Barangay Calajunan, Mandurriao district.

A validation team from the bank recently visited the site to evaluate the project and assured funding for the soil cover after seeing the need to upgrade the old facility, Mr. Treñas added.

The city government is converting the 23-hectare Calajunan dump site into a sanitary landfill with technical assistance from the German development agency GTZ.

The biological and technological park and material recovery facility for segregated wastes are part of the conversion project.

Livelihood center

Meanwhile, a non-governmental organization is building a livelihood center that is seen to benefit 200 scavengers at the dump site.

Salome Villaroman, project coordinator of the Iloilo City general services office, said the livelihood center is being constructed under the supervision of the Uswag Calajunan Livelihood Association, Inc.
(UCLAI).

John Horatius Loot, UCLAI program director, said the livelihood center is being built on a lot across the dump site.

Mr. Loot’s wife, Yukie Kobayashi who is also the UCLAI president, said the Japanese-type center will serve as a meeting place of the waste pickers, training center for various alternative livelihood activities and venue for feeding program and weekly learning activities for their children.

UCLAI has been helping waste pickers since 2005 sell their recycled doy pack products.

It has donated sewing machines, 7,200 zippers to the sewers, a unit of heavy duty multi-stitching sewing machine and multi-purpose tables.

Iban sa mga districts wala na ma-feature diri ie Iloilo Supermart in Arevalo, Iloilo Society in Jaro, etc. We need more updates from time to see kung na-monitor gid man naton ang mga gatililindog nga buildings sa ciudad.:banana::banana::banana:

Iloilo gid man ang origin sang Mang Inasal kay sa website nila Iloilo nakabutang...

Here's the info in their website:

MANG INASAL Philippines is the fastest growing quick serve restaurant (QSR) in the country today- and the biggest QSR specializing in chicken inasal and other Pinoy favorites.

The business started in Iloilo City, Philippines on December 12, 2003. After almost five (5) years of success in the business, the Company continues to capture the growing market demands nationwide. Todate, the Company is gearing to open 100 stores in 2008, and more branches are expected to open within the first quarter of 2009.

Inspired by its vision to be the number one barbeque fast food chain in the country, Mang Inasal Phils., Inc. strives to achieve nothing but the best quality of products and services provided by our well-trained and competent individuals in the organization.

Because of our increasing business requirement, we are seeking for qualified candidates to fill-in various positions.

Biskan diin ka lang subong may ara nga Mang Inasal nga magaserbe sa imo. Indi malayo nga mangi international na ang Mang Insal.
Paborito gid tuod sang mga Pinoy!
