View Full Version : Iloílo City and Province
chymera00 January 29th, 2010, 07:12 PM maybe the provincial tourism officer is not doing anything... Better Mr. Jimena kay gahulag pa... sadya pa gid ang Kasadyahan kun tanan nga festivals in 40+ towns sa province maintra.. they can also invite from other places since daw cultural show man laban sini
I think sa higher offices na ini ya ang responsible. I remember 2-3 years ago, the Provincial Tourism Office was just basically one table at the Provincial Planning Office with just Mr. Bombette Marin manning the "office" tasked to promote Iloilo Province's 42 towns and 1 city. Mayu2x na lang subong because the Tourism Office already has a spacious place at the old capitol building and its a full office na unlike before .... pero more pa should be done, they should significantly improve the tourism infrastructure in the province and increase the budget so that maka hulag mayu ang tourism officers sa province.

death327 January 29th, 2010, 07:31 PM Firm thanks PGMA for helping BPO sector
MANILA, Jan. 29 (PNA) -- Hinduja Global Solutions Inc. (HGSI) on Friday thanked President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for nurturing the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector that boosted its growth from just 4,000 workers in 2001 to half a million workers last year.
The President led the ribbon cutting and unveiling of the marker opening HGSI’s 3,000-seat facility located at 1880 Building in Eastwood Center, Libis, Quezon City.
In a press conference, Partha de Sarkar, chief executive officer, said HGSI would expand this year to other urban centers of the country, notably Clark, Tarlac, Cavite, Batangas, and Laguna, all in Luzon; Cebu and Iloilo in the Visayas; and Cagayan de Oro and Davao in Mindanao.
Last year, the company’s operations grew by 20 percent and generated revenues of US$ 16 million. It is projecting higher growth this year, with the economy recovering in most parts of the world, said HGSI Manila chief executive officer Pushkar Misra.
HGSI’s investments in the Philippines stand at US$ 35 million, including the cost of acquiring the facility of another BPO in 2003. With additional investments this year, the company expects to double the number of its employees.
The company currently has 80 clients in different industries around the world. It employs 14,500 people in the US, Canada, Europe, Mauritius, India, and the Philippines. It also has a working relationship with partners in Colombia, China and Japan, all employing over 1,800 people. (PNA)

oboi January 29th, 2010, 09:06 PM Market collections up
Collections from the seven public markets in Iloilo City have increased considerably this month compared with the same period last year.
City treasurer Katherine Tingzon said this can be attributed to the fact that market stall owners and vendors are now aware in paying their rentals and other fees in the markets.
Tingzon said the collection from January 4 to 23, 2010 posted P5,142,166 or an increase of P271,430 as compared to the collection of P4,870,8735 during the same period in 2009.
The city, on the other hand, collected a total of P118,167,063 in total taxes from markets, local taxes, realty basic tax and others, such as refund, interest income and others. However, the collection does not include the internal revenue allotment (IRA) fund from the National Government.
The collections from January 1 to 23, 2009 registered P143,427,794, including the IRA of P32,669,604, Tingzon added.
Hopefully, the tax collection efficiency of the city treasurer’s office will greatly improve, like the payment of taxes this year, as the office just completed the payment of business renewals.

Iloilo reports higher collections from business permit renewal
ILOILO CITY -- The City Treasurer's Office had collected some P91 million in fees for the renewal of business permits as of Jan. 23, 8% more than last year’s P84 million, City Treasurer Katherine T. Tingson said in an interview on Friday.
Ms. Tingson said 6,000-7,000 out of around 9,000 businesses operating in the city have already renewed their permits.
Ms. Tingson attributed the higher collection to the increase in gross sales of several establishments as well as the business tax mapping that was launched in the second semester of 2009.
During the tax mapping, Ms. Tingson said some establishments were discovered to be operating several other businesses, but were registered under only one permit.
Businesses have until January 20 to renew their permits, she added. Delayed renewal of business permits will be slapped a 25% surcharge and 2% fine every month.
Business World (http://www.bworldonline.com/main/content.php?id=5451)
--------
The figure will further increase once all the businesses in the city have renewed their permits.
at least, we're improving... but the LGU must invite more investors to invest big in the city... what happened to our industrial parks gle?
^^
Great Job!:okay:
Considering only about 2/3 was able to renew nag increase na, how much more kung mag renew tanan or at leat 90% of those businesses?

demonoid724 January 30th, 2010, 01:34 AM Once ISA, Ateneo and Plazuela are all operational, traffic will get worse. Since those two schools have loads of students nga sugat dul-ong not by school transportation but by family cars. And those family cars are usually Starex vans.
I'm hoping Megaworld gets to see this situation and will plan for future traffic.

METROPOLITAN_ILOILO January 30th, 2010, 02:29 AM Market collections up
Collections from the seven public markets in Iloilo City have increased considerably this month compared with the same period last year.

Basta mga mini or UMPC (ultra mobile PC) usually wala optical drive (cd/dvd) kay di kaigo sa iya form factor... usually ang 13 or 14 inch ang may ara internal cd/dvd drive... kung mini ka like 10in ot 12 in... bakal ka gid external cd drive (using usb)
So far Lenovo, MSI, ASUS, Dell, Toshiba & HP... ok gid... I think ASUS eepc gid ang nag pasikat sa mga UMPC's. :D

Depende sa ventilation mo. Netbooks actually would last long compare to Full laptops... since Netbooks are not prone to HDD Crashes since it uses SSD or solid state drive... unlike hdd for full laptops that has moving parts (spindle)

ah ok... amo na gani ang point namon, kay basically for paper works man lang and cguro sa mga presentations like power point, etc. we're basically after sa mobility. you can just tuck it in your bag or backpack without thinking of additional weight to carry.

true blue ilonggo January 30th, 2010, 04:24 AM for now i can say that iloilo boulevard is one of the driving factor for tourist magnet in iloilo city if given more attention like putting up recreation facilty like play ground, parks more greeneries.boating, floating restaurant and of course make the area clean all the time.
agree to the higher level gid:cheers::cheers::cheers:
agree... basi sa near future mag ka park na da or playground. dumduman ko hambal ni bernie before, ang area kung diin ipa tindog ang ayala technohub, was owned by rotary club or lion's club? kag daw i transfer nila ang park from fort san pedro to smallville. im not sure if i heard bernie right...

METROPOLITAN_ILOILO January 30th, 2010, 04:27 AM ah ok... amo na gani ang point namon, kay basically for paper works man lang and cguro sa mga presentations like power point, etc. we're basically after sa mobility. you can just tuck it in your bag or backpack without thinking of additional weight to carry.
galing te, amo na ang disadvantage eh. basi dali maguba.
no wonder... dasig mag init ang compaq ko. tpos ka dasig maubos sang battery. such that i have to hook it sa power outlet everytime im using it. pwede ayhan it islan ang battery para mas longer ko sya magamit without connecting it sa power outlet?
ayos pre ah... showbiz ka gle pre. pero wala maka pierde sa avatar mo ah. hehehe.
If you are using a 6 cell battery pack, try to check sa out sa imo ginbaklan na outlet kung may ara sila 9 cell battery pack. Medyo dako kag galapaw sya sa likod pero it will last longer. Depending on usage, it can last anywhere from 3-4 hours. :D

Haldir07 January 30th, 2010, 06:45 AM Once ISA, Ateneo and Plazuela are all operational, traffic will get worse. Since those two schools have loads of students nga sugat dul-ong not by school transportation but by family cars. And those family cars are usually Starex vans.
I'm hoping Megaworld gets to see this situation and will plan for future traffic.
traffic gridlock na gid na sa Diversion once these big three mauna tapos... and once Ayala starts construction on March and MW this year,, te pudpud na sapatos ta laktanay :lol:

provincial tourism office need to work harder with the development of tourism in the province.they are just there awaiting to be explore and make it known to the world.
ex. ang mga beautiful beaches didto norte.like sa concepcion, carles, ajuy.
kag sa south man sa may guimbal, san juaqin.ang mga eco park sa dingle, lambunao:)
we have islands in the north taht could rival Palawan and Boracay, kulang nlng butangan world-class resorts kag side services like accessible transpo, ports of entry, promotion, etc
I am confident enough not to stoop down to their level and I know that no matter what jealous people say, Iloilo still has many jaw dropping developments.
The first and second flyovers are amazing. Other cities are still dreaming of having one.
The boulavard is awesome. and again, some cities just lust about that.
I just love ILOILO:lol:
Nuff said. I'm not saying that to boast. But to remind other people to be humble with what they get and recieve. A little humility never hurt anyone.:)
besides, REAL progressive cities don't need to bring other cities down in order to show others they progress. In fact those who bring other cities down, are the ones facing no progess at all.
-basi wala sila developments kag u/c projects nga inug-update, te ang aton lng ginahimutaran haw..:lol:

gustokiddo January 30th, 2010, 06:56 AM Thats the attitude of most Ilonggo owners. If some big wig tries to buy their lot, they turn it down. I don't know but maybe they have loads of money and they don't have to sell the lot or wrong decisions lang sila permi.
another case is the lot beside our house. The one currently being occupied by Pangahaw, City Salon and RGA tours. Jollibee offered them 25mil for that lot and they declined. I have no idea why.

Why?
Despite her imperfections.... (lack of roads, flooding and power problem plus inutile & corrupt politicians except for some) ... ILOILO CAN STILL MANAGE to SMILE and continue to March to Progress with flying COLORS.
To note even her BIG TIME SONS are not providing or investing in the HOME TURF... ILOILO can still KICK ASS!
And now WHAT IF:
Her imperfections or weaknesses will be ADDRESSED?
Would it suffice to say she can SOAR HIGHER?
ILONGGOS... YOU BE THE JUDGE! :okay:
Prove the detractors WRONG!
As for me... I bet my LIFE... as if everything depends on it! :okay:
just like Cebu and Davao, their sons and daughters are doing good in their hometurf,, kita ga-amat2x na hulag local businessmen, some of our local businesses are invading the nation,, earning billions, balik gyapon sa home city ang kwarta...

Mayo gid ini... buot silingon pati sa mga merkado sa 'Lilo grabe ang negosyo!
Dira gid ako BILIB sa 'Lilo....
:okay:

-and based on recent news, billions more will pour into the city and province from public funds... private sector ya te,, ara na ebidensya with numerous big-ticket projects
-nagmi-an pa mga balay dira pakadto Miag-ao,, mga kwarta halin sa gwa basi...

In a regular day, before going to my office, got to drop by for a quick breakfast at Mc Donald’s for my BIG Mac for P140. Or it can be some catching up breath coffee in Starbucks for a Caramel Latte and a doughnut and easily relaxed at P200 pesos before facing a challenging day.
At lunch time, I love Kabalen for their affordable buffet for pigging out at P350 pesos or at Mang Inasal’s yummy chicken barbeque at P150 or I can tolerate lining up in Mann Hann or Conti’s if I am with my officemates, shedding out P150-200 each.
Then the afternoons can be very busy, busy, busy or I can have a quick coffee at/ or again at Starbucks, then after a days labour and pain with sweat and high blood a quiet pasta dinner in Mary Grace for P500.

in thomas carlyle's, "the great man theory", history always puts premium on the big shots and famous individuals as the movers of history. well-known individuals who don't need a back story.
in iloilo's historical past, those are the individuals that largely make the story as inversely, iloilo's collective stories were also made to surround them. the reason why iloilo still matters in contemporary times despite being somewhat forgotten by her rich off-springs is because iloilo's greatest strength lies not on those rich, powerful individuals. her greatest strength lies in the collective unknowns that made iloilo what it was and and are still making iloilo what it is today.
those same collective unknowns who are the primary reason why iloilo's hdi is high.

Other notable accounts they have is SONY Consumer Electronics (except Sony Vaio & laptops which is handled by Telus)
really. that's high for a starting salary. correct that, it is a financial account indeed! wala ko abi nakita dayun ang iban mu nga sentence, hehe. i wonder if this is somewhat similar to the financial accounts of sykes (ameriprise) or vxi's bluechips. accounts that concern the US securities industry (bonds, stocks, mutual funds, etc.).

Haldir07 January 30th, 2010, 08:17 AM Key tourism players gear for ‘Make it Davao now’ event
January 29, 2010, 3:30pm
DAVAO CITY (PNA) - “Make it Davao now!” is the battlecry of key tourism players here saying that this city is ready for the big event.
The tourism industry players of this city bonded together upon invitation of the Department of Tourism (DoT) to carry a major publicity campaign during the Philippine MICE convention (Meeting, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) in Subic, Pampanga from February 4 to 7.
Gene Bangayan, president of the Davao Tourism Association (DATA), said they would like to bring the readiness of Davao to MICE participants in Subic as they will bid for the same event in 2012 competing against emerging destinations like Camarines Sur and General Santos City passing through a stringent selection process.
She said there are six destinations in the Philippines to become future host of MICE aside from Bohol, Iloilo and Cebu. Art Boncato, Davao City Convention and Visitors Corporation chair, said hosting the Asean Tourism Forum here in 2006 has proven that the city is ready for any event.
He said in the first International Tourismus Bourse (ITB) Asia in Singapore, Lee Choon Long, organizer of the World Tourism Congress, expressed deep admiration for Davao after staging that event.
Mary Ann Montemayor, former chair of the BIMP-EAGA tourism council and of the Small Hotel Association of Davao, said the MICE is a $300-billion industry.
“If the Philippines could get a share of about $3 billion that would also benefit Davao with the ripple effect on hotels, restaurants, souvenirs shops and public transportation that will boost the local economies,” she said.
Although Montemayor said they had been promoting Davao for the past three years as culture adventure destination in line with the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), it is also important to extensively campaign for this project.
“Davao is ready for a host destination as well like the MICE Conference,” she said. Montemayor said MICE could cushion the negative impact of tourist arrivals. It is corporate and industry driven with a small conference of about 300 to 500 participants, an event of the specialized sector of tourism that require higher standards for meetings and conferences

true blue ilonggo January 30th, 2010, 08:26 AM Key tourism players gear for ‘Make it Davao now’ event

-- FALA

Indian BPO opens second facility
Indian business process outsourcing (BPO) firm Hinduja Global Solutions, Ltd. opened another facility in the Philippines on Friday, bringing its total investments to the country to $35 million.
The 3,522-square-meter, 1,000-seat call center at Eastwood Cyberpark in Libis, Quezon City cost $2.5 million.
This complements an existing facility also in Libis, known as HTMT Philippines. Opened in 2004 after the Hinduja Group’s acquisition of Customer Contact Center (C-Cubed), the facility which measures 8,672 square meters and has 2,000 seats is the single largest facility of the group outside India, company officials said.
Hinduja Global Solutions serves 80 clients across the globe and employs over 14,500 across 23 "delivery centers" and offices in the United States, Canada, Europe, Mauritius, India and the Philippines.
It also has "strategic working relationship arrangements" with partners in Colombia and China which altogether employ over 1,800 people that serve the South American, Chinese and Japanese markets.
The company plans to build another 1,000-seat facility in 2011 possibly in Metro Manila. Company executives said they were also looking at sites in Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, and Dumaguete.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who was present at the inauguration of the facility, said the BPO sector remains one of the major drivers of the economy.
"Our BPO industry remains strong. In fact our local industry is planning to corner at least 10% of the global market this year," Mrs. Arroyo said in her speech. -- Gerard S. de la Peña

I wonder, what could we present to HGSI to convince them to set up shop in our city? What do we have that the other cities cannot offer?
This ain't a cvc, just a theoritical question.
i think pre sa isa ka news tidbit, they already decided to put up shop sa iloilo and cebu this year. they already considered these cities in the visayas area.

Firm thanks PGMA for helping BPO sector
Hinduja Global Solutions Inc. (HGSI) today thanked President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for nurturing the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, thus enabling it to grow from just 4,000 workers in 2001 to half a million workers last year.
The President led the ribbon cutting and unveiling of the marker opening HGSI’s 3,000-seat facility located at 1880 Building in Eastwood Center, Libis, Quezon City.
In a press conference, Partha de Sarkar, chief executive officer, said HGSI is expanding this year to other urban centers of the country, notably Clark, Tarlac, Cavite, Batangas, and Laguna, all in Luzon; Cebu and Iloilo in the Visayas; and Cagayan de Oro and Davao in Mindanao.
Last year, the company’s operations grew by 20 percent and generated revenues of million. It is projecting higher growth this year, with the economy recovering in most parts of the world, said HGSI Manila chief executive officer Pushkar Misra.
HGSI’s investments in the Philippines stand at million, including the cost of acquiring the facility of another BPO in 2003. With additional investments this year, the company expects to double the number of its employees.
The company currently has 80 clients in different industries around the world. It employs 14,500 people in the US, Canada, Europe, Mauritius, India, and the Philippines. It also has a working relationship with partners in Colombia, China and Japan, all employing over 1,800 people.

habagatcentral1 January 30th, 2010, 11:32 AM For me, for as long as the countryside benefits the sustainable development, I'm for it. It's better if the whole country itself would progress and leave no brethren behind. This is the true essence of progress and development. Pride only comes later, but what is pride without the real progress? What is progress when you couldn't share it with your brethren? What is the sense of development when you tend to capitalize everything. That is why whoever sits in Malacañang, should emphasize the development of the countryside as well...

right on @metro!
in thomas carlyle's, "the great man theory", history always puts premium on the big shots and famous individuals as the movers of history. well-known individuals who don't need a back story.
in iloilo's historical past, those are the individuals that largely make the story as inversely, iloilo's collective stories were also made to surround them. the reason why iloilo still matters in contemporary times despite being somewhat forgotten by her rich off-springs is because iloilo's greatest strength lies not on those rich, powerful individuals. her greatest strength lies in the collective unknowns that made iloilo what it was and and are still making iloilo what it is today.
those same collective unknowns who are the primary reason why iloilo's hdi is high.
^^
Thanks for expounding on that. That is why we cannot discount the power of the collective masses... especially the strong middle class of Iloilo.
:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
 hehehe.
the city will always speak for itself... may ssc man or wala, it can't be discounted that the city is moving forward. progress and development is inevitable.
talking about the gokongweis and the aboitizes... cguro someday, iloilo's prominent sons and daughters would indeed come back and invest in their hometown. the question is when? maybe when the right time comes.
anyway, the city is growing in leaps and bounds even in their absence. after all, the city and province is not represented by these prominent families, but by the ilonggos themselves. cheers!
poker-faced. hehehe.
^^
At the end of the day... its all about the numbers. Pre again and again statistics showed that, and proved otherwise what isnt.
IHMO, progress should be consistent! :)
really. that's high for a starting salary. correct that, it is a financial account indeed! wala ko abi nakita dayun ang iban mu nga sentence, hehe. i wonder if this is somewhat similar to the financial accounts of sykes (ameriprise) or vxi's bluechips. accounts that concern the US securities industry (bonds, stocks, mutual funds, etc.).
^^
Yup, add to that Chase... Chase offer is same at around 23-32K starting basic... esp for Fraud Analyst. Last I applied, the offer was great but I have to turn the offer down since I got feedbacks that you will be getting high level complaints (stress alert toink), with a few notches lower I am contented to be a Tech Support instead (less stress and you got to give instructions instead save for LOLO and LOLA calls OMG! tech-ing with a 75-80y/o is a test of patience!:bash: )
Other US accounts that are very strict that I know of is Bank of New York (stocks), I wont disclose the BPO though... the screening is super strict and your names get submitted to FBI with pictures and fingerprints for all fingers.
Financial Account offers high compensation thats a fact. It would be great if Iloilo can host a BPO that carry those accounts
just passed by Lapaz area this morning,, ang former Panay Railways office,, gin-renovate na subong kag nahuman na,,, STILL may signage na gid nga Panay Railways Main Office nakabutang sa tubang sang new building,,

Daw mayo haw? Hulat-hulat lang ta pics ah. :D
clearly shows how mang inasal adapted to the gastronomic psyche of metro manilans. it became a part of their lives. it's happening not only in manila, but to the rest of the country as well, so as to speak.

Key tourism players gear for ‘Make it Davao now’ event

Yup, Proud sons and daughters of Iloilo! Deym!
halos tanan nga yearly reports sang city positive haw, ano buot silingon sina?
^^
Meaning sina PROGRESS is a way of life here. :D :okay:
I know but HGSI will be looking at the statistical data of each of these cities.
I think their criteria will be:
1. Power rates
2. Rental rates
3. Manpower
4. Population growth
5. Ease of doing business
6. Rates of local taxes
7. Telecommunications infrastructure
and others...
^^
I think MANPOWER should be a numero uno consideration Amigo. All else are negotiable. :D
Nag search ko sa Google..sa ATM Building sila kuno 3rd Flr. tabok Seo Oil sa Ledesma St. I guess isa sila ka building sang East West bank.

That is correct! I have a friend that works there. I think the Med Transcription has been there since 2003 or 2004.

ken_7 January 30th, 2010, 02:17 PM This building na white....looks like a very good place for BPO. Aside from moostbrand, what are the other tenants of this building?
I think BPO locators should take a look at this building if they are looking for space.
sino taga-Jaro diri? :lol::lol:
si ken mala-fiesta nman handa nila guro ay
ay araguy... purgahanay gd ni!!!
Vacant pa ang 6th Floor, pero may ara to sang last time nga daw may gina kay-o sa 6th Flr. basi may ma-occupy. 5th Flr. is occupied by Eversun (Web Staffing BPO), 4th Flr. is leased by Dynalink Review Center and Talk Time(online English Tutorial). 3rd Flr going Down, iya na ka Moostbrand.
THERE IT IS! EVERSUN! ITS A BPO, RIGHT?
I think, another building that has potential is payless plaza along quezon st. all their floors could be devoted to BPO instead of department store kay gapa lugi man na anyway.
BPO man na sila. web design. I think Eversun and Virtual Assitants Technologies (Sto. Rosario Building are two major web staffing BPO in Iloilo. They are into web design, web dev., and SEO)
BPO in Iloilo are not just composed of Call Centers. I think may ara man Animation, the latter is grouped with Web app/staffing.
Eversun Software Corp. (Agents of Value) ang pioneer diri sa Iloilo when it comes sa BPO (Web Development, Programming, Web Design, Graphics Design, Flash Animation, SEO, etc...).. Before ang office nila didto pa sa Viosils Building sa MH Del Pilar Molo..then naglapta pagid sila sang iban pagid na offices and now ara nada sila subong sa Moosbrand Building..actually nag start sila Dec. 2005. Damu naman Eversun sa Pinas.. Makati, Iloilo, Davao, and wala nako kablo kung din pagd..^^
Sometimes graphic designs include animation. But according sa article citing Iloilo as new emerging cities sa BPO may animation sa Iloilo. Ang nabal-an ko lang nga WVCST students are engaged into this, sila gadevelop, la ko kabalo kung sin-o nila nabaligya kag nagabaligya sang work nila. Tapos may sweldo sila dason, amo na hambal sang kilala ko nga connected sa WVCST.
Until now may ara pana gyapn sa WVCST. Remember ko may ara sila 1st movie animation nga gin-obra. Gin featured pa ni sila before sa TV.^^
