habagatcentral1 February 19th, 2010, 09:36 AM So they say, it goes beyond the unlimited rice. They wouldn't ask for more if it wasn't for the viand. In Tagalog, "makanin kasi ang ulam" probably because its tasty. :)
From Manila Standard's "Sarah is on a Roll" by Isah V. Red (http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/insideEntertainment.htm?f=2010/february/19/entertainment1.isx&d=2010/february/19)
Mang Inasal for everybody
An endorser is only as good as the number of people he attracts to patronize his product. Judging by the sheer volume of diners who come in droves to Mang Inasal’s more than 200 branches, Mark Bautista is passing the test with flying colors.
People from all walks of life go to a Mang Inasal branch nearest them to sample its authentic Ilonggo cuisine any time they want to. Call center agents can have their fill of affordable dishes at the newly-opened Jupiter branch ready to serve them 24/7. The homesick Ilonggo miles away from home can again enjoy his comfort food like the inasal, barquillos, molo soup and others by visiting any of the branches nationwide. He can even enjoy unlimited rice along the way.
Viva boss Vic del Rosario, who owns a franchise, is happy at the results. Thus, he plans to put up another franchise in Trinoma next month.
Edgar `Injap’ Sia II, the man behind Mang Inasal is solidly behind del Rosario. In fact, the Iloilo-born Sia plans to have a total of 300 branches by this year. This means adding 100 more branches to the existing ones. This makes Mang Inasal one of the fastest-growing quick serve restaurants in the country today.
Yes, the future looks bright for Mang Inasal, whose secret of success lies in the sauce where the scrumptious inasal dishes are dipped.
Sia created the sauce six years ago, when he put up the first Mang Inasal branch. He has never looked back since.
Mang Inasal has inspired Mark so much, he’s thinking of putting up his own franchise in his native Cagayan de Oro. It will not only be cheaper there. Mark has his family who can take are of business while he’s working inManila . It will be his first business, if ever.
“Mang Inasal is very hardworking. They give it their all. They are persistent and aggressive. They want to succeed in the industry. And this is also what I see in myself,” says Mark

VILLAR VOWS GREATER HEIGHTS FOR PANAY
ILOILO City – Nacionalista Party (NP) standard-bearer Manny Villar yesterday vowed to implement more infrastructure programs and build more road networks between and among the provinces in Panay to spur progress in the island if he is elected President.
In a press conference, Villar said the people of Panay are clamoring for change and progress, which can only happen if more funds are poured in to stimulate its economy.
“Yung Roxas City, for example, mahaba pa rin ang biyahe papuntang Iloilo. Sana mapaganda natin ito para magkaroon ng mas masigla na interaction itong ating taga-komersyo, na galling sa iba’t-ibang lalawigan dito sa Panay, yang Aklan, Capiz, Antique at saka Iloilo,” he said.
Villar also said he intends to make Iloilo one of the top provinces in the country if he gets elected President.
“Sa tingin ko talaga, itong Iloilo province ay gawin nating No. 1 sa buong Pilipinas. At masasabi ko naman sa lahat ng taga-Iloilo na wala namang magmamahal pa sa Iloilo province nang higit pa sa akin dahil itinuturing ko naman na taga rito ako,” he said.
He added: “I get things done. Makikita po natin ang malakihang pagbabago na mangyayari dito sa probinsya ng Iloilo.”Villar considers himself a true Ilonggo since his father, Manuel Sr., hailed from Cabatuan and Balasan towns.
His grandfather was from Molo, Iloilo City and his grandmother was from Cabatuan town. Three of Villar’s four sisters also married Ilonggos from Dumangas.

^^Char! lol
We will see also.:)
let's see if villar will deliver... for now, i would go for him. i admire him for being a self-made man with humble beginnings.

VILLAR VOWS GREATER HEIGHTS FOR PANAY
this goes not only for villar but for all candidates as well: elections can sometimes be likened to a man wooing a woman. promising the voters the moon and the stars. it can be comically romantic seeing them on tv. i do hope though, villar makes it! his management and administrative experiences and expertise could make this country go places if ever he wins.

Attention to Manila-based SSC Iloilo forumers:
Guinahagad namon kamo nga magkilit-anay kita bwas gab-i sa Southgate Mall, takna alas-7 sang gab-i, sa Deco's Batchoyan. Liwat, sa SouthGate Mall sa Makati (Mantrade-EDSA) ha, indi sa Tienda La Paz... Gapang-hagad si Biboy (Waldenstrom) nga mag-batchoy kita.
Madamu guid nga salamat! :)
Actually, plan ko is to eat dinner at Mang Inasal from the PTAA expo at the SMX.
So they say, it goes beyond the unlimited rice.
I was wondering before why no one ever thought of opening a Mang Inasal in Trinoma. No need to wonder coz soon Trinoma will have its own MI.
I'm surprised that Vic del Rosario of Viva Entertainment owns a franchise. MI is truly "kumbinsing!"

vaatzhoy February 20th, 2010, 10:37 AM Acute water shortage looms
By Lydia C. Pendon
ILOILO City – This city is being threatened by acute water shortage as water supply in the covered areas of the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) has become critical.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas immediately requested the Department of Agriculture (DA) to approve cloud seeding operation in Iloilo to augment the MIWD’s water supply.
Treñas revealed that the MIWD reported critical water level in its pumping stations in Sta. Barbara and water reservoirs in Maasin, Iloilo, leading to acute potable water supply.
He said potable water shortage is currently felt in MIWD’s coverage areas, especially in this city where the bulk of water concessionaires are located.
Treñas is concerned that the water shortage could lead to possible outbreaks of diseases.
City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Noel Hechanova said the request will be forwarded to Task Force El Niño which was earlier created to help mitigate the effects of El Niño or the long dry spell.
The task force is chaired by DA Regional Executive Director Larry Nacionales with the regional directors of the National Irrigation Administration, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, National Food Authority, Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, Department of Social welfare and Development, Department of Labor and Employment and Office of Civil Defense-Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (OCD-RDCC) as members.
Nacionales assured that his department has undertaken preparations against El Niño and these include cloud seeding operations to fill up dams and water reservoirs.
He said his department has an available fund of P3 million for cloud seeding operations in Panay should the farming sector here approve it.
Cloud seeding is already ongoing in Negros Occidental, mostly funded by sugarcane planters who are worried by the long dry season.
Nacionales said several farmers’ organizations are concerned against cloud seeding in Iloilo since their vegetable and fruit crops such as mangoes and watermelons are now on flowering stage.
He said the water supply situation will be given priority attention on February 25 when members of the RDCC meet for a special meeting on the El Niño phenomenon./PN

'Tyo Tagoy' February 20th, 2010, 01:07 PM RP tourism boosted by international events and hotel boom
By Lily O Ramos
MANILA, Feb. 19 (PNA) -- Looking back at 2009, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Joseph Ace Durano said major international events in Metro Manila have increased utilization of various tourism facilities.
These included the International Conference on Green Industry in Asia, East Asia Seas Congress, Asian Congress on Health and Peace Tourism, Eco-Products International Fair, World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention, Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau Meeting, Asian and Oceanian Stock Exchanges Federation General Assembly, Licensing Executives Society International Annual Convention, and Federation of Asian Bishops Conference.
Twenty cruise ships docked in Manila for 2009.
Arrivals from these cruise ships posted a 2.24 percent increase from 17,516 passenger-tourists in 2008 to 17,908 passenger-arrivals in 2009 with most visitors taking the tours in Intramuros, Manila and Tagaytay.
Boracay Island teemed with Taiwanese and Chinese tourists throughout the year as more charter flights from the said markets were mounted directly to Kalibo.
Taiwanese tourists in Boracay went up by 72 percent as China Airlines started its charter flights which operate twice a week.
Similarly, Shanghai Airlines’ charter operations of Shanghai to Kalibo and Philippine Airlines’ Hangzhou to Kalibo boosted Chinese arrivals to Boracay Island by 26 percent.
Likewise, the opening of Shangri-la’s Boracay Resort and Spa uplifted the tourism experience in Boracay Island, with its 217 rooms, high-end facilities and amenities. The total cost of this new investment amounted to P4 billion.
Other new resort-hotel facilities that opened in the island included: Crown Regency (449 rooms), Phoenix Hotel (130 rooms), Boracay Regency Lagoon (120 rooms), Seven Stones (100 rooms), and Grand Water (100 rooms).
In addition, new facilities are underway as the local government of Malay reported P902 million worth of private sector investment for 2009. Tourist volume in Boracay Island grew by 2.4 percent to 649,559.
Tourists to Bohol posted a 10.9 percent growth at 313,317 visitors. Foreign tourists reflected an increase of 18 percent from previous year’s volume while domestic tourists went up by 7.9 percent.
Hong Kong and Chinese tourists to Bohol also recorded a remarkable increase of 467 percent and 99 percent, respectively.
This is attributed to the product diversification being undertaken by the local government units and the private sector to stimulate greater tourist traffic and longer stay in Bohol.
Product development innovations were undertaken by the municipal government of Danao in Bohol which brought a new dimension and perspective to adventure tourism.
Dubbed as Ecological, Environmental and Educational Adventure Tour (EAT)– Danao, this product which is fully funded by the municipal government offers an extreme and exhilarating challenge with its 45-meter plunge, 1.5-kilometer Suislide, caving, river tubing, rappelling, kayaking and root climbing.
Though with limited promotion capacity (initially only through word-of-mouth), foreign and domestic tourists trooped to this destination to experience a real adventure.
Puerto Princesa City tourist traffic grew by 21 percent with foreign and domestic visitors increasing at double digit level of 23 percent and 21 percent, respectively.
The upgrading of Puerto Princesa Airport paved the way to increase flight frequencies from Manila and other island destinations in Central Philippines.
Likewise, the efforts of the City Government of Puerto Princesa to develop new tourist products attracted more visitors and enabled prolonged stays.
Sustaining the Growth in Tourism Investment:
By year-end 2009, Durano said DOT has endorsed 28 new tourism projects worth P 36.3 billion with estimated employment capacity of 15,567 once operational.
The bulk of new investments are in the Tourism Economic Zones amounting to P29 billion. These include the Eagle Entertainment City, Bagong Nayong Pilipino Entertainment City, Embarcadero de Legaspi, Akean Resorts and Ilawod Estate Tourism Economic Zone.
Additional investment in the accommodation sector with total cost of P5.4 billion is projected to employ 2,722 people.
This include the Remington Hotel (1,000 rooms) and Microtel Inns and Suites (150 rooms) in Manila, Sheridan Beach Resort (96 rooms) in Puerto Princesa City, Highlander Hotel (76 rooms) in Nueva Vizcaya and Green Canyon EcoPark (75 rooms) in Tarlac.
Relatedly, the airline sector responded to the growth in the tourism sector as Cebu Pacific, Zest Airways and SeaAir have poured investments to acquire new aircraft to cope with the demand for increased air travel.
Total investments of these airlines were valued at P15.9 billion.
Diversifying Tourist Products:
Durano added that increased visitor volume in major destinations gave impetus for more Local Government Units and communities to engage in various tourism enterprises, thereby diversifying the tourist products and experiences while generating local employment and revenues.
The provincial government of Camarines Sur opened an 18-hectare manmade lake called Lago Del Rey at the cost of P20 million to complement the popular wake boarding activity in the area.
As a family facility, the park offers various activities such as boat ride, fishing, and swimming, and accommodation.
The municipal government of Basey in Samar launched the Golden River Tour and the Eco-Adventure Tour of Sohoton Cave. Managed by local residents, these community-based eco-tourism products have earned a gross income of P650,000 since inaugurated in May 2009.
Plans are currently underway to uplift the tourism experience of visiting Sohoton Cave with the introduction of lighting facilities, board walk, visitor facilities and guided interpretation.
The city government of Balanga in Bataan has taken advantage of the growing market for bird watching and embarked on upgrading existing tourism facilities in the area.
As a popular stop-over and feeding ground for migratory birds, Balanga has the largest concentration of birds and offers not only bird watching but also bird photography.
Trekking, bird watching, and eco-tourism products in Mt. Apo were enriched with new adventure, camping and cultural interaction activities which have drawn more tourists.
With the launch of Kayaking Adventure Campaign, the DOT organized three kayaking series: namely: Kayak Explore Hundred Islands, Cavite-Corregidor-Bataan Kayak Eco-Challenge, and Cebu-Bohol Channel Kayak Crossing.
Gearing for Robust Growth:
In the midst of a challenging year, the DOT has laid down the foundations for sustained growth of Philippine tourism.
Anchored on the smooth implementation of Tourism Act or RA 9593, the DOT foresees the coordinated and integrated efforts of the government and the private sector to expand current capacity, increase tourist demand, enhance tourism revenues, and create more employment opportunities in tourist destinations.
Durano ended by reporting that by year 2010, total tourist traffic in the top destinations is forecast to grow by 15 percent as domestic travel movement continues to increase and international tourist markets recover from economic slack. (PNA)

'Tyo Tagoy' February 20th, 2010, 01:11 PM Basketball: Iloilo now in the SBP National Junior Chips
CEBU CITY, Feb. 19 -– Iloilo Chinese Commercial High School (ICCHS) booked the second finals berth in the Under-17 division of the SBP National Junior Championships Friday at the University of San Carlos gym here.
The team of former Far Eastern University guard Vincent Conlu beat Sacred Heart Academy of Lucena, 72-64, for its fourth win in five games and gained the right to meet Luzon's representative St. Clare Caloocan in the gold medal match of the tournament organized by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
"The players are happy to be in the finals. I think we have a good chance against St. Clare even if they beat us in the elimination round,” said the 31-year-old Conlu who played for four seasons with the Tamaraws in the UAAP.
St. Clare beat ICCHS in the preliminary round, 83-80, in overtime.
Marvin Gaitan finished with 16 points to lead the ICCHS, third-placer in the Nokia-NBTC Under-17 National Championship behind champion Manila and runner-up Davao last year.
Conlu did not expect his team to play in the finals but the last-minute pullout of Far Eastern University and University of the East due to conflict with CHED Games gave them the opportunity to be the first champion of the inaugural season of this tournament.
St. Clare and ICCHS face off for the crown Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the final day of the event also supported by Smart, Omega Painkiller, Molten, Casino Rubbing Alcohol, Cebu City Government, Asia Brewery and Enervon.
In the Under-19 category, University of the Visayas ended the dream of University of San Agustin (USA) Iloilo to qualify in the finals after pulling off a come-from-behind 68-61 win.
Rhaffy Octobre led the Green Lancers with 16 points while Vince Zafe fired a game-high 27 markers to pace USA Iloilo, which was relegated to the battle for third place against Ateneo de Zamboanga.
UV finished its preliminary round with 3-1 mark to face the unbeaten Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) Phoenix in the finals.
The Phoenix, mentored by former San Beda College standout Ralph Rivera, formalized their entry in the championship match with a 71-59 victory over host school USC Warriors of coach Mike Reyes, brother of Talk 'N Text coach Chot Reyes.
The Green Lancers and OLFU square off at 4 p.m. to be followed by the awarding of trophies and medals to the winners.
SBP deputy executive director Bernie Atienza said the league will also cite players who compiled the most points, rebounds, assists and blocks in this weeklong tournament that aims to scout future talents for the national team.
HANOT HUASHONG!!!!! hehehe!
'Tyo Tagoy' February 20th, 2010, 01:12 PM DOT exec wants ‘Paraw Regatta Festival’ to help raise public awareness on coastal protection
ILOILO CITY, Feb. 19 – The Department of Tourism (DOT) believed that the "Paraw Regatta Festival" here could be a vehicle in raising public awareness on the need to preserve and protect the shorelines of Villa, Arevalo, the host of the annual event.
DOT regional director Edwin Trompeta said the advocacy on the protection and preservation of the coastal areas could be one of the sustainable projects the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation Inc. would consider aside from the provision of scholarship to children of Paraw boatmen.
Villa Arevalo used to be one of the most visited destinations of both domestic and foreign tourists due to its beautiful beaches.
However, the presence of high coliform forced visitors to shun the place a little bit although it still offers other attractions such as the fresh seafood cooked by restaurants situated along the shorelines.
The annual "Paraw Regatta Festival" which has been considered as the longest and oldest sailing competition in Asia also does its share of enticing tourists to once again go back to the shorelines of Villa.
The festival which was named as the Best Sports Tourism Event by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) will take center stage on Sunday with more than 70 paraws joining the race.
The more or less 35-kilometer race will kick off at the Tatoy’s Manokan towards Jordan, Guimaras and back to the Tatoy’s Manokan.
As preparation, Trompeta said that the surrounding communities have been tapped to do some clean up along the shorelines. Another clean up activity will also be held after the event.
However, with the proposed advocacy it is expected that clean up activities will happen year round and not just as part of the preparations for the big event.
'Tyo Tagoy' February 20th, 2010, 01:14 PM P3-million fund up for cloud seeding operation in Western Visayas
ILOILO CITY, Feb. 19 – The Department of Agriculture (DA) is ready to undertake cloud seeding operations in Western Visayas if needed so as to cushion the impact of the El Nino phenomenon.
This was announced by DA regional executive director Larry Nacionales as he disclosed that he is about to sign a contract with the Bureau of Soils and Water Management for the P3-million fund intended for Western Visayas.
The cloud seeding operation is one of the measures that was identified by the Task Force El Nino to mitigate the effects of the El Nino phenomenon which has already affected some 32,320 hectares of rice lands in Western Visayas.
Nacionales added though that they are very cautious with the cloud seeding because there are other commodities that might be affected such as watermelon and mangoes.
Meanwhile, Nacionales also met with City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) head Noel Hechanova and the Metro Iloilo Water District board of director Adrian Moncada to discuss possible cloud seeding operations at the Maasin Watershed.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas instructed Hechanova to ask the help of the DA for the cloud seeding operation to address the looming water crisis not only in the city but also in other service areas of the MIWD.
The MIWD kicked off with its water rationing this Friday as a result of reduction and intermittent water supply due to the decrease in the volume of water coming from the Tigum River in Maasin town.
Nacionales added that they have not received request for cloud seeding from other sector aside from the request of cloud seeding from the city government of Iloilo and the MIWD.
The cloud seeding operation in Negros Occidental weeks ago were undertaken by the provincial government and the private sector to cushion the impact of the drought on their newly planted sugarcane. (PNA)

'Tyo Tagoy' February 20th, 2010, 01:15 PM Fisheries sector in WV not affected by El Nino
ILOILO CITY, Feb. 19 — The fisheries sector in Western Visayas is not affected by the El Nino phenomenon causing long dry spell in some parts of the country.
Director Drusila Bayate of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Region 6, said that based on their assessment the dry spell has not caused any damage to the fisheries sector in the region.
But despite the prevailing scenario, the BFAR-6, she said, has been preparing mitigating measures by identifying vulnerable fishing areas in Western Visayas likely to be affected once the dry spell will continue to worsen.
The BFAR director said they are presently keeping watch on inland freshwater aquaculture sector or fishpond which is perceive to be easily affected by the prolong dry spell.
She said Western Visayas has vast acres of fishponds like tilapia and catfish that heavily rely on rainfall.
Bayate has expressed optimism that the dry spell would not last until June so as not to cause a delay in the stocking period in various fishponds in the region.
She said the fisheries sector in Western Visayas has just recovered from the ravage of devastation with a negative production in 2008 brought about by the widespread floods spawned by Typhoon Frank. (PNA)

Basketball: Iloilo now in the SBP National Junior Chips
SBP deputy executive director Bernie Atienza said the league will also cite players who compiled the most points, rebounds, assists and blocks in this weeklong tournament that aims to scout future talents for the national team.

labeth February 20th, 2010, 06:48 PM no problem :)
pigado ang area sa mga newbie restos pero ang mga established medyo makasarang. ang casitas ya medyo bar ang kag inuman ang dating nya so medyo pang gabi lang pero fastfoods have patrons anytime of the day. ang lvoe and kisses pizza gani medyo okay man. it's just marketing the resources to back it up. i mean the Que's have more to spend for promo and the likes than the owners of casitas or island fusion.
Ang Love & Kisses ya may patronage sila. Kaon kami 2 weeks ago didto and damo tawo ga kaon sa sulod. Laban nga ga kaon didto last time may salakyan guid nga dala, kami lang siguro wala.
Just like sa mga barbequehan dira sa guwa sang hospital, wala guid gakawad-an customers!

:bash:

Actually, snail-paced gani ang redevelopment. I still haven't received any updates on the guidelines of heritage restoration and policies to be implemented in the Calle Real Heritage CBD from ICCHCC.

vaatzhoy February 20th, 2010, 07:29 PM very nice location indeed.
sustainability would be another thing pero i think they will survive. addition lang ina ang mga tourists dira it's the locals who will appreciate it more kay sang una asta lang labat labay dira pero now medyo pwde ka na ka tambay. the place itself will sell itself mainly because of it's ambiance.
i mean before i had no idea what it will look like that i had no excitement that both green mango and coffeebreak will have another branch pero sang naglabay ako kaina I was very excited  to see this new development. kag nami pa ang part nga ina sang nelly garden kay may mga landscaped gardens. i think because of this ma pressure ang nelly garden to beautify itself more kay mahuya man sila cguro
pwede man makuha sang branch nga ini ang mga patrons sang green mango sa tubang sang wvsu hospital though medyo lakat gawa sang gamay.i wont mind walking ... kung indi init hehehe. ti masakay na lang eh
it might even make that area more lively anytime of the day
^^very well said and very encouraging ang message mo @whyte especially to the business minded members here who would like to venture within that area....dapat nga mabatian sang mga Lopezes kag makita ang advantage sang bago nga building dira so they could maintain the whole area.

Guesstimates is worth hundreds of millions of pesos actually. Calle Real CBD is no overnight miracle. We're not living in People's Republic of China where thet could practice their power of eminent domain.
The stakeholders affected also has to be provided a very clear business strategy of the said area. At least the ordinance protecting Calle Real is there, but it has to expand beyond the said area and the six districts and plus the fact that it needs to boost "police" power.

ILOILO City -- Efforts to sell this city as a destination and relocation site for investments are picking up with the full swing construction of various infrastructure supports, according to Lea Lara, executive director of the Iloilo Business Club (IBC).
“We are quite hopeful with the developments right now,” she said. “We’re happy that even the locales are now investing on their properties.”
At present, there is an ongoing construction of Plazuela de Iloilo where the second floor is expected to house business process outsourcing (BPO) firms; and the proposed investment of the Ayala de Iloilo, both at the Diversion Road area.
Likewise, Lara said they have been talking to the Panay Electric Company (PECO), the lone distributor of power in the city, which assured that their Baldoza substation will become operational this year thus boosting the power supply here.
Further, more hotels are going to operate within the year, she said.
Lara said their campaign in the past years is “gaining ground.”
With this development, she stressed that a big challenge is waiting for whoever would be elected mayor of this city.
“He has to be up for the challenge that is being faced by these developments. We hope that what is happening now especially on the side of investments will be maintained,” she added.
Lara likewise said that the election season is expected to perk up the local economy with the projected volume of spending. (PNA)

i'm impressed with the design. They really need bigger investors for revitalisation of CBD. It's not just only paving the road or closing them for pedestrian -- the challenges lie mostly on businesses to be erected in the CBD.

If I'm not mistaken this is the KAPIDECO in Mandurriao. So bale may Heritage District which is the old downtown of Iloilo City, then there will be a Satellite District. Where will be the main CBD then , the Heritage District also?

Actually, snail-paced gani ang redevelopment. I still haven't received any updates on the guidelines of heritage restoration and policies to be implemented in the Calle Real Heritage CBD from ICCHCC.

chymera00 February 21st, 2010, 07:34 AM Some Jaro Cathedral Renovation Details:
They finished remounting all the bells and installed a new mechanized and computerized system.
After cereful study of the stone Image of Nuestra Snra de la Candelaria (sa 2nd floor) they found traces of gold gilding. During the recent improvement of the image, they added 23K gold gilding and replaced the cape to a more appropriate one.
Restoration of the 19th century made 12 apostles was done by Martin Joven of San Vicente, Bacolor, Pampanga ... a respected restorer in the country
They also added new video system and improved the old audio system including Two remote controlled cameras and 8 42" flat TV screens. A computer is also attached to the system to broadcast the lyrics of the songs and some prayers.
The four chandeliers which were bought by Archbishop Cuenco
from Europe were cleaned, rewired and installed back.
In deciding for the color scheme of the Jaro
Cathedral it is important that it be coherent
with the architecture and period of the
building, thus, 19th century colors were
chosen (or the colors already found in the
sanctuary of the Cathedral.
(the five coats of paint of the cathedral walls prior
to the general repainting)
Since the original walls were made of porous stone material,
appropriate water proofing techniques were made (including
demolishing the plant boxes outside the cathedral). With the
technical assistance of Boysen Paints, the process was established.
It meant scraping the old paint and applying layers of painting and
water proofing materials to achieve its finished look today.
Painting details from the ceiling of the sanctuary were replicated all
over the Church notably the arches in the side naves, the ceiling of
the main nave, the garland all over the church, the dome and in
the area of the four evangelists and the ceiling of the narthex.
As part of documentation, original patterns and painting details
were traced for safekeeping.
FUTURE PROJECTS
New Main Retablo
• Shrine of Nuestra Sñra. de la Candelaria
• Archbishop’ Chapel
• Columbarium and Ossuary
• preservation of external coral walls
• final documentation detailing “as built” details
