Some sort of tabled information about the 4 leading Presidentiables ^^

Even if the figures don't say it all Id still go for GORDON...:)

As seen in http://newmawesadobo.info/i-will-vote-for-gordon/

I already know who made this table. Obvious gid.

May Senate Bills gali si former Rep. Gibo? :D

And Villar's executive experience at Camella, etc. and at managing the maddest dog house in the country - the House of Representatives - and the pedestal of the narcissists - the Senate - were not counted? :ohno:

Conspiracy theories are for the naive; common sense is for the thinking man.

Whatevs!
So, is it self-inflicted pain?

Haay, the pains that politicians would go thru just to get elected.

 Abi ko gani "birth pains."

Anyway, its good that we're seeing every perspective without being ashamed on.

:)

you guys i found interesting and witty.damu gid unod ang inyo mga coconut shell:lol::lol::lol:

Well, IMAO I dont think so.
Only desperate people will do that.
I mean come on, YOU are leading the survey? Doin that is self-destruction.
Self-inflicted pain CUT both ways... of course the other side will think and will make people think you did IT for attention, publicity, desperation (sympathy maybe?). Anybody is AWARE what the old man will say, so what stops him from doing it? Logic...
It destroys property as well. Either way its a lose-lose situation. :ohno:

Of course the old man wouldn't DO it! He is OLD! Deymit! :bash::lol:
He will let his henchmen do it! The GoldGunsGoon trio! :bash:

My 0.02!

But if its the other way around, Then I could say its self-inflicted pain.

I mean what would a King do if his throne is about to be taken away from him?

He could always go back to Zambales.

But I find this "scare Trenas" thing to be too far out. It could work in Maguindanao or Masbate, but not in Iloilo City where the media and the people are too vigilant and discerning. :)

Again, what's the motive? ;)

DENR brings environmental education to Iloilo high school students
ILOILO CITY, March 24 (PNA) – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, through its Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Iloilo, has brought its own brand of environmental education to students of a high school in the province.

CENR Officer Bernabe Garnace said they reached out to third and fourth year students of Lawigan National High School in San Joaquin, where they conducted an information education campaign or IEC about El Niño phenomenon and global warming.

“These are natural occurrences that ought to be understood by everyone. We shouldn’t blame the government for what is happening,” Garnace stated.

He urged the local chief executives and academe to help in the awareness of environmental issues so that people will be well educated about the problems currently faced by society.

Aside from discussing topics on environmental concerns, fire prevention and protection of marine areas were also tackled.

CENRO personnel respond to requests from local government units and schools for the conduct of IEC.

Garnace said their activity is in line with the DENR’s “People’s Day” initiative that brings their various services closer to the people. (PNA)http://www.pna.gov.ph/index.php?idn=8&sid=&nid=8&rid=266087

SANGA-SANGANDILA Ni Veronica R. Samio (Pilipino Star Ngayon) Updated March 24, 2010 12:00 AM

Well, Iloilo is a "port of entry". How many ports of entry does the Philippines has? I can only name a few, and maybe, in order of significance: Manila, Cebu, Batangas, Davao/Iloilo, Subic, CDO, Gensan, Zamboanga, etc. No time for research. :D

^^ How about the province? We're already aware that we lack of the sights in Iloilo City, however the province has so much to offer.

How could we convince the affected stakeholders that tourism would help us in time of need? Like it is now during El Niño? Some (if not most) of our kasimanwas have this thinking nga "tama na ina, tsakto na ina." Some people tend to be complacent in what they have and wouldn't complain.

BTW, if I'll be Councilor Yee or anyone, I would start up a "boat ride" business in BBQ Park or somewhere in the Riverside. The rent-a-bike in Treñas Blvd is already a good idea. That area has improved a lot...may surround sound pa nga music from Tabucan to Diversion...:D

kanugon sang plan sa city council sang una about the ferry system sa Iloilo river similar to the ones in Pasig but daw wala gin-approved kay kuno ma-pollute lng ang suba :bash:

baw kon sa province naman iya ang mga road from farm to market and vv dapat gid panamion esp. ang coastal road pakadto sa dumangas naluoyan port.tani kaluoyan gid na da sang aton mga politiko tuod kag ang port daw kinahanglan na guro palaparon kag panamion since daw ka busy na da subong esp. ang roro dira ga agi .
i found that area a very promising for development.imagine along the highways makita mo a ng mga lagpad nga kapunungan sang dumangas.

the ports of Dumangas and Estancia should be expanded because of the busy activities in those places. Sa Dumangas daan dira naga-labay ang roro ships, sa Estancia syempre the flourishing fishing industry there

^^Exactly, because it generates additional income to their municipality once their ports are expanded and upgraded to accommodate travelers. Wala pa ko gani ka-try dira mag-agi sa port sang Dumangas going to Bacolod cguro much easier and faster compared to trips from Iloilo City port to Bacolod.

Asea One Power builds P8 billion biomass plant

Pioneering biomass power project developer Asea One Power Corporation is lining up investments reaching more than P8 billion (or $180 million) in the next three years to complement power supply flow by a total of 72 megawatts in the Cebu-Negros-Panay (CNP) grid.

Asea One Power senior vice president and chief finance officer Ernesto V. Tan bared that the projects will be undertaken in phases and the facilities are expected on stream from 2012 to 2013.

Of the expected capacity addition, the company’s priority in the implementation track would be the proposed 12-MW biomass power facility in Aklan. On blueprint, this shall be implemented almost simultaneously with a 30-MW project in Iloilo.
The firm’s second phase project would be another 30 MW to be sited in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental and targeted on-line by 2013.

For the first phase, “the total project cost is $105 million, that’s at $2.5 million per megawatt,” while the second phase will command an investment of $75 million.

He further disclosed that the company is now inching close to the signing of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with a Chinese firm for the initial two projects.

“Of the $105 million financing or approximately 85% of that will be for the EPC, while the balance will be for project cost preparation and implementation, like site preparation, fuel sourcing for commission and testing and others,” he stressed.

“It will take you two years to build the power plant,” Tan explained, further noting that once the turnkey contract and financing are firmed up, the project’s construction will already proceed as targeted.

He said they would need to keep with their promised timeframe of implementation since they already entered into bilateral power supply contracts with off-takers, or the so-called buyers of the projects’ electricity output. “Basically, they will serve the electricity requirements of Iloilo, Aklan, Antique and Guimaras,” Tan said; noting that the first 12-MW will start contributing to the CNP grid by June 2012; and the first 30-MW by September of the same year.

The project developer admitted that there remains some hurdles on the implementation of even renewable energy (RE) projects, like biomass, but he said these are being studied on how to be addressed. By MYRNA M. VELASCOMarch 24, 2010, 4:34pm

SANGA-SANGANDILA Ni Veronica R. Samio (Pilipino Star Ngayon) Updated March 24, 2010 12:00 AM

it's more of a wecoming sight.tapos may big signage nga WELCOME to ILOILO city ,welcome to city of Love or welcome to the home of Dinagyang.:)

yup. from rotary down. mas mayo pa gid kugn asta villa beach :lol::banana:
tapos ang port sang iloilo didto tana sa loboc
tapos may isa ka daku sang daiangaygn ati warrior statue dira ayu nsa mouth of the river as a fitting symbol sa city. kesa naman bowl of batchoy

^^^^amo ni gani ang problema kay almost if not all most of us share the same sentiment with regards to this idea galing kay ang city government t a iya daw bulag o gapabulag bulag lang or lain ila iya prioity?
well kinahanglan gid ni madala sa ila pagtalupangod esp. kay eleksyon subong paki hutik na lang da sa aton mga kandidato a.
paging man ang aton tourism officer since daw naga problema kita sang aton tourism industry.ti ara ha ang idea nga ina can bring magnet to visitors and tourist alike.

halin sang una sang nag umpisa ang SSC, amo na ina ang ginahambalan diri. mga frustrations. actually good thing nga nadiscover ko/naton ang SSC kay at least we get to moeet people who shared the same frustrations, visions, etc for the city. at least now collectively we have a much stronger voice rather than being alone

-totally agree with this bossing.....pero unahan guid dapat sang city government na develop kag kah-uhon kay sa ulihi masulod naman da ang private developers kung makita nila na plastar na mayo....just like sa riverwalk.....i bet may ara na da developer nga may plano nada....hipos2x nag guro kapin naguid dira dampi sa area atubang saviour hospital ang lapit guid sa entrance sa molo na tampukan na nila duta ano nada man?......hehe

actually if teh gov't can make a WIN-WIN deal with the private sector so much the better. i mean the city cannot afford some projects liek these as of now so better make a deal na lang with willing businessmen

That area has improved a lot...may surround sound pa nga music from Tabucan to Diversion...:D

dvelopment in the diversion area will come soon be it those boats/bikes to bowling alleys, etc. as we all know that will be the entertainment center of iloilo city.

as we all agreed upon, the foremost problem in the provincial tourism is the lack of promotions. but thanks to the internet medyo in our own very little way we can directly promote iloilo to the world.

hopefully the gov't can provide easy access to these attractions by making transportation much better, giving incentive to investors, plus of course officially promoting them

:ohno:

^^ That Christ statue, according to the marble inscription, was a project of former mayor Mansing Malabor. According to that, it was 1998. 10 years later, it has been destroyed by nature herself and neglect.

I dunno who are the stakeholders of Fort San Pedro. Pagkakabalo ko, its DPWH who is doing such projects. Anyway, whoever sits on the city hall, I hope he would have to take a look on this and have it renovated.

kanugon sang plan sa city council sang una about the ferry system sa Iloilo river similar to the ones in Pasig but daw wala gin-approved kay kuno ma-pollute lng ang suba :bash:

I believe the shallow channel is the main reason why the ferry system did not push through. Dredging needs to be done..

kon may isa ka lugar that needs urgent improvement and development amo na siya ang fort san pedro and also to relocate some of the squatters dira sa may duran kag sto rosario.maayo man dayon patindungan mga lodge kag mini hotel para kon maalang alang ang barko pwede ang iban nga travellers makapahuway huway.

para sa akon ang fort san pedro is one of the window of iloilo city that make the first impression to our visitors and tourists alike from different part of city and provinces in the philippines kay dira naga dungka ang barko sang NN kag superferry.

^^
Hopefully, by year end we will be able to hear plans about renovating those.
Hmm... If only we can raise awareness about this or lobby or even email the right persons.

The longer it gets renovated, the more it deteriorates. :bash:

And hopefully, with better design. And there should be ample lighting.

Maybe they can relocate the squatters after election. :ohno:

Its the middle class that are burdened by the government. Welfare is good, but sometimes, it breeds laziness on their part....

Make them work, for their new home, kung i-reocate gid man sila pa obraha sang ila balay with a help of course from GK or Habitat for Humanity. At least may pinangabudlayan man sila.

Also, livelihood projects will be incorporated.... the help is always there.

BUT if its a WILL issue, ay te Noy, mabudlayan gid na bisan sino nga gobyerno mabulig sa ila kung sila mismo perde gana.

As they say, kung gusto maraming paraan, kung ayaw maraming dahilan.

Again, its always a WILL issue, and sometimes the sad case is, its on both sides, THEM and the local officials. Thats why the vicious circle continues.... :ohno:

^^kalabanan dira subong sa ila are professional squatters... biskan i-relocate mo ina sila some will even make money out of it like ibaligya nila ang lot nga gin award sa ila, amo na sg nagligad ginquestion ang ICUPAO why they are allowing that to happen.

mas worse pa gid ang mga squatters sa manila, majority wala gid ambisyon sa kabuhi.its where lazy people abound.. they spend most of their time tambay sa tong-its, pa-bingo, videoke (take note, daw station of the cross ang mga videokehan sa iban nga slum areas kay pagsulod mo sa eskinita all the way sa dead end pila ka videoke machines malabayan mo ). no wonder kung ngaa damo man crimes gakatabo around these slum areas.. :ohno:

diri sa iloilo, mas ayad gani kay biskan paano gahimo sg tikang ang city government... back in the 90's ang squatters sa area dira near gaisano lapaz and both sides sg forbes bridge gaalawas asta sa iloilo river.. if they have done that before, then possible gid nga mahimo pa gid ina sg city government to other parts sg ciudad nga may squatters (especially dira sa areas like rizal pala-pala, bahkaw mandurriao etc.). ive noted nga less violent diri ya sa iloilo ang eviction sg mga squatters compared to metro manila.

Indi gid man kilanlan na ang isa ka city has to have squatters while developing or progressing.

All it needs is for progress to spread outside of HUCs so that people from the rural areas won't have to come to settle in the cities to find opportunities.

One of the reasons why there are so many squatters in metro manila is that it is very progressive that it attracts a lot of people from the provinces for opportunity. That's why there are a lot of ilocanos, ilonggos and even from rich provinces like cebu and davao. The poor from the provinces tend to congregate in slums and thier numbers add every year.

On smaller scale, one of the reasons why there are slums in iloilo is because some of the dwellers are from the rural areas of iloilo and western visayas to find opportunity because from they came, there's not much development, not much opportunity.

Imagine if bacolod is not as developed as it is now, it is very probable that iloilo now would be more overcrowded, more congested and perhaps....perhaps, more slumdwellers because people from the province of neg. occ. would go to cebu and other HUCs in WV to find work and opportunity. But because bacolod is progressive, the said city absorbs those who come from all the other cities in neg. occ. looking for work and opportunity.

In our city, there are lots of antiquenos, aklanons, capiznons and some negrense because our city, to some extent, offers opportunity.

What if...what if San Jose in Antique, Kalibo in Aklan, Roxas in Capiz, Passi in central iloilo, Miag-ao in south iloilo and Estancia in the north are as Progressive as cebu? I guess we could see lesser numbers of slumdwellers and squatter colonies.

Thus, spread the development, spread the wealth so that HUCs will not be crowded with slums. Development in the visayas should not be limited to cebu, bacolod, iloilo and others, but it should spread to calbayog, catarman, biliran, tagbilaran, murcia, roxas, guimaras, san joaquin, and all the other places.

Plus, combine the above with readytogo's call that the poor should exert their own effort, plus collective action of government and business, we can be sure that squatter colonies will lessen in number and severity.

- in terms of cargo volumes ano na status sang International Port sang ILOILO? busiest port in western visayas man na siya or hindi?(basi ma huy-an lang ko di lang anay mag declare busiest port in WV..hehe)..... kag sa whole philippines ano standing sang ILOILO port man? damo lang ko pamangkut..hehe
Here's the Cargo Throughput Statistics of Philippine Ports in 2008: http://www.ppa.com.ph/Port%20Statistics/08-Stat_2008_CargoThruput.htm

Surprising kay relatively smaller man ang industrial economy sang Iloilo. The large volume could be due to Iloilo Seaports' advantage as a transhipment point - natural harbor, central location, developed infrastructure. Kag I think dako ang consumer market sang Iloilo for imported goods and it's the gateway to nearby provinces pa.

I think It's better not to compare na lang. We should be happy kay competitive ang combined Seaport Performance sang Western Visayas.

Thanks Nong Samwise sa heads up on the new hi-res google earth imagery for Iloilo.

Iloilo, Guimaras give new meaning to Lent

THE Iloilo City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) will mount activities for the Holy Week in Iloilo and Guimaras provinces.

Dubbed “Semana Santa sa Iloilo kag Guimaras” or SESIG, the project is now on its fourth year. It is a joint undertaking of the City government and tourism-oriented businesses.

Spearheaded by the Iloilo City Government through the CTDO, the partnership is extended to the local government units of the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC) and some municipalities in Iloilo province, and the Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Office 6.

Non-government organizations like the Iloilo Convention and Visitors Bureau (ICVB), the Association of Iloilo Travel and Tour Operators (AITTO) and the Iloilo Hotels Restaurants Resorts Association (IHRRA) are also supporting the activities.

This year’s theme of SESIG is “Holy Week in My Mind”, which City Tourism Officer Benito Jimena explains is “(the) things (that) come first to your mind when you think about holy week.”

The SESIG project offers varied activities that can entice Ilonggos to celebrate Lent without taking for granted the religiosity of the season.

For those who want to experience how Holy Week is commemorated, “capiya” exhibits in Santa Barbara from April 1 to 2 feature fourteen small chapels in the intersections of the town where picturesque tableaus of the “Via Cruces” (Way of the Cross) are located.

Stations of the Cross will also be mounted in Balaan Bukid in Guimaras and all Catholic churches from March 29 to April 2.

The Last Supper and Washing of Feet of the Apostles are re-enacted in all towns on April 1.

Retreats can be conducted in the Trappist Monastery in Guimaras and the Gethsemane Garden in Leganes, Iloilo.

“Visita Iglesia” or tour of different churches in the city and province can be done from March 29 to April 3.

A Good Friday procession in Leganes includes 26 life-sized images, while the town’s “Salubongan” on Easter Sunday shows the deep Ilonggo tradition in presenting the encounter between Jesus Christ and Mother Mary after His resurrection.

The devotees can also troop to Leganes from March 28 to April 4 for the “Palapak” where a small statue of Saint Vincent Ferrer is pressed on the head of a devotee hoping for a miraculous cure from only winged saint.

All other churches have “Resplendor” or the angel’s curse of Judas on Easter Sunday.

“Ang Pagtaltal sa Bala-an Bukid” every Good Friday is a yearly attraction in Jordan, Guimaras, where a theatre group re-enacts the sufferings of Christ from the Garden of Gethsemane to the Calvary.

Artistry is also not lost in the celebration as the CTDO launches competitions in essay writing (March 30) and on the spot drawing/painting (March 30) at the Freedom Grandstand; “palaspas”-making to discover artistic flairs in creating incredible shapes out of coconut palm (March 27), and poetry reading (March 29) at SM City mall.

“Sambuwa sang Pasyonista” on March 29 promises to be exciting as singers compete for the best rendition of the “Pasyon,” a traditional composition detailing the sufferings of Christ.

Meanwhile, photo exhibits are on display at SM City starting March 22, where one can glimpse Ilonggo culture and tradition during the Lenten season.

Month-long Lenten culinary treats are offered as well by members of the IHRRA to satisfy the choosy palates of visitors and tourists, while the ICVB member hotels offer 50% discount in their room rates from March 28 to April 4, 2010. (PIO)

Dinagyang VIP area renamed
“Lee Chuan Lounge”

THE “Dinagyang Lounge” at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand is now called the “Lee Chuan Dinagyang Lounge.”

The lounge was renamed after Mayor Jerry P. Treñas signed an executive order (EO) recognizing the invaluable contribution of businessman Lee Chuan, fondly called as Tawa Lee, to the yearly success of the country’s best tourism event.

The lounge serves as the receiving area for local and foreign guests during Dinagyang Festival and other activities at the grandstand.

It was during Chuan’s term as president of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. (IDFI), when the Dinagyang lounge was conceived and constructed.

“(He) has served as president of the (IDFI) for many years and under his able leadership and through the successful partnership and collaboration with the Iloilo City Government, has brought Dinagyang to a higher level of prestige and recognition both national and international,” the EO read.

“The support and dedication of Mr. Lee Chuan, as President of the (IDFI) is one of the major reasons that this Iloilo festival has garnered many awards including Best Tourism Event for 2006, 2007 and 2008 by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines, making it into the Hall of Fame,” it added.

Treñas said he approved the renaming the Dinagyang Lounge because he saw the tireless support and dedication of Chuan to the festival.

Meanwhile, the IDFI recently elected a new set of officers, with Ramon Cua-Locsin replacing Chua as president.

Locsin said he is expecting more active participation from the public sector in order to fortify the organization in its management of the yearly festival. (PIO)

ISC is almost ready. :banana::banana::banana:

Hataw ang mga developments !!!:banana::banana::banana::banana:
We're expecting a lot of completion of these projects towards the end of the year.
Sa subong, Diversion Area pa lang ang gahataw, next ang old Airport site na by Megaworld. Of course other areas sang ciudad indi man magpa-pierde. I'm also seeing Prime Estates to LaPaz area ang sunod nga magpaspas sang developments and the areas around the Iloilo Floodway sa Jaro.

another area of future development. And look at the boulevard, kanami siya tulukon even from afar. I hope we'll continue to maintain and improve the area for future tourist site. Iloilo River is definitely giving Iloilo City the unparalleled perspectives.

i prefer mid-rises within the boulevard area. Mas manami siya tulukon. With a little bit more mid-rises from the present state, Iloilo City's Diversion will definitely looks better. Right now, all I can say is, the city's skyline is definitely changing ... and it's changing for the better. Also, I would like to maintain greeneries, too, as much as they could. Mas manami ang hitsura sang mga midrises amidst the greeneries and a rive to complement the whole picture of it.

BUSINESSMEN SUPPORT JED

ILOILO City – A group of bankers and business leaders here expressed support to the mayoral bid of Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog after he laid down before them his plans for the metropolis.

“I bared my plans for the city followed by an open forum. They were impressed and they expressed confidence that if I become mayor of this city, I am capable of continuing the dynamic partnership of the city government with the business sector,” Mabilog said.

Some 120 businessmen attended the gathering.

Mabilog said he recognizes the “strong contribution and support of businessmen in the various economic programs and activities of the city government, which produced positive results for the constituents.”

In surveys among the mayoral bets in this city, Mabilog continues to expand his lead.

“Majority of these business leaders were curious why I have maintained a huge margin against my rivals, the reason why I presented to them my vision and programs for the city government,” he said. The meeting was held in one of the downtown hotels.

being a candidate endorse by group of businessmen is a big factor in the winning.hoping that there will be a good and harmonious working relation between the business and private sector and the the city government in the next administration
we had a bad experience in the past during the ganzon administration that even shy away our investor and transfer to other big cities in the visayas.

Its like, we mean business! :)
Hope to see more improvements for UI this coming school year not just in terms of Infras and Facilities but also in the quality of Education.

Roller-Coaster in the City:

"SOON, one will no longer have to go to Star City in Pasay City to experience a ride on a roller coaster. With the eventual completion of the second flyover in Iloilo City on Gen. Luna/Jalandoni junction – a few linear meters away from the Infante flyover – a jalopy ride from one flyover to the next could induce a roller-coaster thrill. Right?

Not always! Judging from the way the second flyover is rising, it could cause more traffic jam than it could unclog. Right now at the construction site, the four road lanes on Gen. Luna highway/have shrunk into two (or one on each side), consequently slowing down bumper-to-bumper traffic, because of the cross-cutting pillars in the middle of the road. It’s turning out to be a duplicate of the first flyover..."

PROGRAMS
Mabilog said he would pursue the full computerization of the permits and licensing division and revenue generating departments at City Hall.

“This would drastically reduce, if not eliminate, red tape and improve the efficiency of processing time,” he said.

Mabilog also assured the businessmen that there will be no tax increases during his term, but that revenue collection will be improved.

“We will also establish a one-stop-shop for new businesses where all necessary requirements will be processed and accomplished,” he added.

Mabilog assured the businessmen of providing solutions to the current concerns of the business sector like the burgeoning sidewalk vendors, the traffic glut, and the lack of parking spaces.

“We will also tap technical experts to study and recommend solutions to address the water problem here,” he added.

According to Mabilog, “the business leaders want fresh leadership, an open-minded person and an energetic and dynamic leader who could implement the programs already started by the current administration.”

Mabilog said his administration would allow the police “do their work and refrain from getting them involved in politics.”

He said the city government will provide incentives for efficient and hardworking policemen like awards, recognitions and cash rewards for promoting peace and order.

“We can establish decent and stable jobs through efficient tourism, computer education, and help advance the economic features for overseas Filipino workers,” Mabilog added.

Mabilog said he would also continue the sustainable programs of this city to alleviate the poor.

Also, he said, the proposal to establishment a quality public college will be pursued during his first year as city mayor.

“This will be give our younger generation a venue to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills for better employment,” Mabilog said./PN
