The Jaro Floodway's outfall into Iloilo Strait is being worked on, even on a Sunday. The smokestacks of the Panay Power Corp.'s power plant and the U/C coal-fired power plant of Global Power can bee seen in the distance.

European firm tapped for turnkey contract to build 3 biomass plants
Europe’s Poyry Energy has been tapped as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the initial three pilot biomass power projects being pursued in the country by British project development firm Global Green Power PLC Corporation.
The three projects will have aggregate capacity of 70 megawatts and will be sited in Nueva Ecija, Iloilo and Bukidnon.
“It will be for a series of projects, so we’re doing EPC contract with Poyry Energy, it’s originally from Finland and it’s one of the largest engineering consultancy firm in Europe,” Global Green president David de Montaigne said. The propounded EPC firm’s profile indicates that Poyry Energy is now headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
Global Green Power has been the much-hyped entity programming mammoth investments of $1.0 billion in the country’s RE sector, to put total capacity of 420 megawatts. Asked how a new entrant like Global Green would be able to convince lenders to finance its projects given that it has not a single megawatt capacity yet to back its track record, de Montaigne noted that they can rely on the experience, track record and expertise of partners and technology providers.
He further bared that China’s biomass boiler provider will also be coming in as technology partner in Global Green’s projects. At $48 million investment for every 17.5 megawatt build, the total project cost for the company’s initially planned portfolio will be $192 million. “Our technology partner is DP CleanTech CleanTech from China. Off-take for Iloilo project is now fully covered, but we are also waiting for the feedin-tariff for our other projects,” the company executive said.
Despite some hurdles along the way, De Montaigne has given word that the planned 420MW capacity will become a reality in seven years time or by 2017.
For the three initial projects, the Iloilo portfolio was designed to yield generation reaching 17.5 megawatts; Nueva Ecija’s capacity will also be 17.5 MW; while Bukidnon is expected to add 35 megawatts in Mindanao grid’s capacity by 2013. Both the Nueva Ecija and Iloilo projects are targeted on-line by 2012.
“We’re trying to help in the Mindanao crisis, so we’re trying to speed (the Bukidnon project) one up,” he stressed.
He then emphasized that “we have 12 major projects for 420 megawatts, we have that in three phases, that’s for seven years.”

junnjun013 March 28th, 2010, 06:09 PM ^^Nice to know that Manila foodies are liking Iloilo's Crave Burger :)
Share ko lang Here's one review...
http://images.mra2z.multiply.com/image/8/photos/upload/300x300/S5D@nQooCG0AAE2FJBE2/b1.jpg?et=qeSQgUy913rx8jh6M%2B0oyg&nmid=321857856
I have been hearing a lot of good things about Crave Burger up in White Plains. Originally from Iloilo, it is now planning to break into the tough Metro Manila market. Initial reports seems good as my source claim that it is constantly packed with people.
The first thing that struck me was the interior, instead of the following other fast food chains with bright primary colors and plastic furniture, the interior of Crave resemble more that of a resort, complete with garden furniture. Maybe this is their way of distinguishing themselves from the other chains in the market.
I decided to come early so that I could avoid the crowds. Now ordering at a fast food outlet should be easy and not as complicated as rocket science, which wasn’t the case at Crave Burger. It wasn’t that the menu boards were written in a foreign language or you have to send your order telepathically to the servers, it was just that I couldn’t decide what to get! I was stumped! Which of the five variants of burger should I order? While all five are made with 100% beef patty, they differ in what they come with. They range from a basic Crave Burger with fresh lettuce, tomato, onions and pickle (P 110) to an Ultimate Burger with caramelized onions, maple bacon and American cheese (P 145). If I do decide to get which burger, should I customize it by adding a fried eggs (P 25) or shitake mushroom (P 25)?
Of course I could have made my life easier and get one of the Crave Combos and get a set meal that comes complete with fries and drinks (The people behind me were already giving me dagger looks at my indecisiveness!). But I was further stumped when I realized I had to choose from a selection of side items such as Twister fries (P 85), Wedge country fries (P 85) and onion rings (P 90). As for drinks, I already made up my mind, well sort of, to try out either the red iced tea or blue lemonade (P 60). But when I spotted that they have three kinds of milkshakes, I was befuddled! Making matters worst was they even offer chicken wings, in either classic or spicy flavor! Augghhh…
In the end I made my life easy (and those standing behind me) and asked for the Crave Combo#2 which included a double burgers, skinny fries and blue lemonade (P 195). I also decided to splurge and get a five piece classic chicken wing also with skinny fries (P 225). The burgers were absolutely marvelous. True they are a bit pricey compare to commercial fast food chain, but they are reasonable to other gourmet burger outlets. Beside the prices seems justified once you see thick the patties were and how tasty they were. Along with the sweet and soft burger bun, the mild American cheese, the onion and the bacon, this burger brought me to a food-induced haze!
Full from the burger meal, I had my doubts as to whether I could finish the chicken wings. Incredibly they too were also marvelous! They had been deboned and cook to the right degree of crispiness without it being too greasy. It wasn’t served with gravy, but with a sweet thousand island like sauce. But I find that the wings pairs beautifully a dab of mustard. An unlikely pairing, but works out pretty well!

METROPOLITAN_ILOILO March 28th, 2010, 06:21 PM I don't know though but I guess this has something to do with the waste water treatment mandate for the establishments lying beside Iloilo River. After all, we don't want to see drainage pipes jutting towards the river right? Hehehe!! Maano na lang tani ang river cruise ukon rent a boat kon amu na ang sights ta with matching ilaga.
And I have the feeling that we'll be seeing mid-rises in the river that would be well-lit. Imagining Chao Phraya, hehehe!! :D

Nice one Bernie! Ipadayon... just in case you will someday run... ari lang kami di sa SSC to support you... but it cut both ways... I/we will be your BEST SUPPORTER/s and WORST CRITIC/s. :okay:
Yes, it's possible, but it's not probable. It would mean overhauling the entire city for laying out pipes/culverts for effluent intake, constructing pumping stations, laying out pipes separately for treated water and waste, etc., and constructing the WTP itself. It would cost a tremendous amount of money. :)
What is more probable is for the city to compel new establishments to construct their own domestic WTPs and to rehabilitate the existing drainage system. :)
^^
Yes, I absolutely agree... the overhaul is a slow and awfully looooonnnnng process. Paris DID it in the late 1800's but they have to close parts of the city for 1-2 years...
I agree with the LAST part and for the old establishment to slowly adapt as well. An ordinace should be put in place if there is none yet. For everyone's STRICT COMPLIANCE (or else MULTA)! :okay:

The River looks cool... its a refreshing sight! The River is really an asset. Iloilo is so blessed to have this. By all means let us protect the river and preserve it for future generations. :)

He then emphasized that “we have 12 major projects for 420 megawatts, we have that in three phases, that’s for seven years.”

gasunod-sunod lang ang pabutyag intention ang mga power suppliers to invest in Iloilo. This is really good. Meaning, they can see the demand of the city and the province to greatly increase in the future.
I hope all of them will be materialised. Iloilo needs all these power plants to address the rapid increasing demands of electricity in the city and province. With all the constructions ongoing and planned, Iloilo is really the place to be for these power providers.

^^Nice to know that Manila foodies are liking Iloilo's Crave Burger :)

Haldir07 March 29th, 2010, 03:56 AM BoC reports P14.5-billion tax collection
By RAYMUND F. ANTONIO
March 27, 2010, 6:14pm
Majority of the country's ports were able to meet their respective revenue targets for the third consecutive month, posting a collection of P14.5 billion for March, reports from the Bureau of Customs (BoC) showed Saturday.
As of March 23, 2010, the BoC reported that it was still short of P5.11 billion since it had targeted the collection of P19.61 billion for the first quarter of this year.
“The chances of meeting the target is relatively high since most of the ports are likely to have positive collection performance based on the preliminary figures,” the source of the document said.
The source said the BoC may have already hit its monthly target as some P5.8 billion from Tax Expenditure Fund (TEF), the duties from rice imports of the National Food Authority, in the previous months, will be credited by this month.
Among the ports, the Port of Manila (POM), which had a target of P3.19 billion, has reportedly collected P3.07 billion while the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) posted a collection of P971 million as against its P1.32 billion target.
The same data showed that Limay Port in Bataan surpassed its target of P1.74 billion after collecting P2.12 billion during the month.
Other ports that were either meeting or exceeding its target include San Fernando, Iloilo, Cebu, Tacloban, Davao, Subic Bay.
In a separate interview, Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales said the higher volume of oil imports and other products was not only the main reason for them to collect more.
“Our economy is booming compared to last year. There is a surge in the volume of oil and steel and our E2M (electronic to mobile) project is also a big factor for us to improve our collections,” Morales said.
The BoC, however, said there were a few ports whose collection performance is still down such as those of Legaspi, Cagayan de Oro, Surigao, Zamboanga, and Clark Field despite the improving economy.
The Batangas Port, where the oil depots of large petroleum firms are located, is likewise not hitting its daily target and has so far collected P1.96 billion.

Earth Hour contribution may be lesser vs a year ago
THE COUNTRY successfully observed Earth Hour on Saturday but its contribution may have fallen short compared to last year’s savings based on initial data from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
POLICEMEN STAND before a globe installed at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City on March 27, moments before Earth Hour. Around 125 countries joined the great Earth Hour switch-off just months after disappointing UN climate talks in Copenhagen. -- AFP
Initial reports from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao showed that the country saved at least 400 megawatts (MW) -- the output of one unit of a power plant. Total savings last year was 611 MW, equivalent to a major power plant, based on data from World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines.
Based on historical average of the day minus actual consumption, NGCP said the Luzon grid consumption was cut by 363 megawatts (MW) -- half of the output of a major power plant -- from last year’s 500 MW, Guillermo R. Redoblado, NGCP senior technical adviser and spokesman, said yesterday.
There was, however, no data from distribution utility Manila Electric Co. to confirm the load drop as many lights were shut off from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
For its part, the Department of Energy has yet to collate data on energy saved.
"We are still collecting data from the different DUs (distribution utilities), ECs (electric cooperatives) as well as from the NGCP on this," Mario C. Marasigan, Energy assistant secretary, said in a phone interview.
"In terms of the number of communities which participated, mas dumami ngayon [the number has increased]," he said.
The usual bright lights at Ortigas Center in Pasig City, for example, were shut off while building either turned off or dimmed lighting fixtures.
From 647 last year, Mr. Marasigan said initial information indicate that the number of participating cities and municipalities this year was at 1,076.
As of last December 2009, the National Statistical Coordination Board said the country has a total of 137 cities and 1,497 municipalities.
MORE VISAYAS PARTICIPANTS
In the Visayas, more households, commercial establishments, hotels and even some call centers participated in the Saturday event.
Energy savings reached 62 MW, said NGCP corporate communications officer Belinda S. Canlas in a text message. The consumption is about the size of a fuel oil-fired generating unit in Cebu and about 23% more than last year’s savings of 48 MW.
Visayan Electric Co., Inc. (VECO), the second biggest private utility in the country that serves Metro Cebu and adjacent towns, reported an almost 8% load cut at 9 p.m. compared with the March 20 consumption.
Ethel T. Natera, corporate communications department manager of VECO, said demand went down by about 8% to 237.25 MW by 9 p.m. compared with last week’s demand of 257.8 MW for the same period. Demand further went down to 232.9 MW by 9:15 p.m., although this was only 6.7% of last week’s 249.6-MW demand for the same period.
For the entire Earth Hour, VECO’s peak demand dropped by 14 MW, or about 5.5%, to 235.4 MW at 9:30 p.m. from 249 MW at 8:30 p.m., Ms. Natera added.
For the entire Cebu, energy savings reached 25.96 MW, said Cebu City Councilor Nestor Archival, chairman of the executive committee of the Cebu Earth Hour Core Group.
Ayala-led Cebu Holdings, Inc. reported total savings of 3,870.22 kilowatt-hours (kwH), which is equivalent to 742.7 kilograms (kg) of carbon dioxide, said Cebu Holdings sustainability officer Elson R. Homez.
This topped last year’s estimated 2,000 kwH that was saved by the Ayala Center Cebu shopping mall.
Cebu Holdings expanded its Earth Hour activities to include neighboring communities, employees and locators at the Cebu Business Park and Asiatown IT Park this year.
A total of 228 households from three barangays that border the 50-hectare Cebu Business Park logged in savings of 11.55 kwH, or 2.22 kg of carbon, said Mr. Homez.
In Iloilo City, Department of Energy-Visayas supervisor J. Rey C. Maleza said power demand in Panay dropped by 8 MW.
Randy S. Pastolero, Panay Electric Co. (PECo) operation manager, said demand in Iloilo City went down by 6.14 MW.
THE EARTH HOUR countdown was held at SM City-Iloilo mall in Mandurriao district led by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and Iloilo Governor Niel D. Tupas, Sr.
At 8:30 p.m., the mall turned the lights off in its signage, pylon tower and parking area. Power supply at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol (old and new) and Iloilo Sports Complex were cut.
The Arroyo Fountain, which is now under the care of the provincial government, was also an Earth Hour landmark.
The Iloilo City government switched off 424 street lights for one hour along BS Aquino Drive at Efrain Treñas Avenue and Gen. Luna Street and six district plazas. The Jaro Cathedral also joined in by turning perimeter lights off.
Hotels and establishments in Smallville Leisure park in Iloilo City offered candlelight dinners to show support.
Superintendent Eugenio Espejo, officer-in-charge of the Iloilo City Police Office, said no major untoward incidents were recorded.
Senior Superintendent Renato A. Gumban, Iloilo provincial police director, said the 43 police stations in Iloilo province switched off some of their lights and air-conditioning units for one hour last Saturday.
MINDANAO OBSERVANCE
In Mindanao, Earth Hour was successfully observed in major cities.
In Davao City, representatives from major companies joined the one-hour lights out, said event organizer Green Alliance of Davao.
Rodger S. Velasco, Davao Light and Power Co. vice-president for engineering, said Saturday night’s consumption dropped by 13 megawatts.
From 225 megawatts, between 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., on Friday night, the load was tracked at 212 megawatts.
Davao Light has a customer base of 272,000 residential, commercial and industrial users.
A ceremonial switching off was held at SM City Davao. While most homes, especially in middle to upscale subdivisions had no lights during the hour, many had their TV sets and personal computers turned on during the hour.
In Cagayan de Oro City, Divisoria, the city’s central business district where the countdown program was held, became dark at 8:30 p.m.
However, residential areas in the city were not as cooperative and were in a business-as-usual mode with lights turned on.
"At home, our Earth Hour actually started at 1 p.m.," said Lalae P. Garcia of Gabriela women’s organization who had attended the countdown.
"Our brownout schedule had been from one until six p.m. I could not blame the residents if they no longer appreciated the one-hour blackout program," she said.
Cagayan de Oro City’s Earth Hour 2010 program was coordinated by Xavier University and the Philippine Information Agency.
In Zamboanga City, the frequent brownouts led some residents to skip the event.
"We have been experiencing more than six hours of blackouts. I guess it’s already enough," said Halid Yusop, a security guard.
Still, the city government and Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative shut down power supply on Tuesday for an hour in observance of Earth Hour.
"The observance of Earth Hour is very significant as the city and entire Mindanao is experiencing power and water shortage brought about by the dry spell," Mayor Celso L. Lobregat said. -- Jose Bimbo F. Santos, Marites S. Villamor in Cebu and Francis Allan L. Angelo in Iloilo, Carmelito Q. Francisco and Joel B. Escovilla in Davao City, Louise G. gasunod-sunod lang ang pabutyag intention ang mga power suppliers to invest in Iloilo. This is really good. Meaning, they can see the demand of the city and the province to greatly increase in the future.
I hope all of them will be materialised. Iloilo needs all these power plants to address the rapid increasing demands of electricity in the city and province. With all the constructions ongoing and planned, Iloilo is really the place to be for these power providers.

junnjun013 March 29th, 2010, 02:44 PM Earth Hour contribution may be lesser vs a year ago
Dumas in Cagayan de Oro City and Darwin T. Wee in Zamboanga City

The short simple answer:
You didn't grew up with MMM. So you have no good/great memories of it. :)
Or if you want the Long one:
In our days.... it was Amigo, Sm Delgado, MMM and Gaisano Guanco. That was from 80s to early 90's. I know you would probably laugh or scoff at this, but in its heydays MMM was the IN place. :D
And later came... Gaisano City, Atrium, SM City and Robinsons Place in that particular order.
I have fond memories of these places...
Same can be said of my folks/relatives who would rather eat in the old restos, shop in old supermarkets... my Lola even still buys at Botica China! Its practically what you grew up with I suppose.
Its something that can be fondly called a sentimental reason. Someday you will understand more... as you grow older and before your very eyes see the ever changing urban landscape. You will always cherish what was in your days.
Same can be said of our gimik days: Barracks, Vega, Tivoli, Base, Salsa Sudada, Highway 10, Lambat, ConVan, StageOne....
Always remember that for every generation there is this 'notion' that his/hers is better than those who came before and came after.
Its almost a fact of life... like in my growing up years, how my parents would loath the music I listen to (GnR, Metallica, Faith No More...) and always brag their brand of music in my face (Patti Page, Art Garfunkel, Julio Iglesia, Engelbert Humperdink and Frank Sinatra)... same can be said now in new generation... they have their own music in Jonas Brothers, Paramore etc...
Whadaheck... I even saw in MTv that the songs I listen to wayback in highschool are now classic rocks/old school like FireHouse etc...
Deym! What would that make my parents music sound like? Dinosaur?
Or maybe its just me... :)
my 0.02.
An after note:
Doesn't this makes me sound so old, does it?
If it does... then probably I am! No apologies!

Those were the days... :D
Haldir07 March 29th, 2010, 06:34 PM Me ara. :) In the old masterplan, there is an area for a "hypermarket" and another area for commercial spaces, most probably replicating that of Eastwood City's malls. One would be a strip mall and the other would be a typical indoors mall.
wew! but there are always chances their plans would change, just like the AyalaTH.
habagatcentral1 March 30th, 2010, 12:47 AM ^^ Most likely, since the MW people back then clarified that the plans we saw were not yet final and subject to change. But knowing the developments that MW have here in Metro Manila, its impossible that there would be no commercial strip for retail. :D

Kaltehitze March 30th, 2010, 04:26 AM Technology Business Incubation eyed as flagship program for economic growth
By MELODY M. AGUIBA
March 26, 2010, 4:41pm
The government is adopting the Technology Business Incubation (TBI) as a flagship program with an estimated P100-million initial investment in 12 technology entrepreneurial centers for food processing, industrial manufacturing, and software development.
Considered as essential to economic growth specially in developing countries, the TBI, patterned after technology business birthing centers in Germany, United States , and Asian economic tigers, is seen to propel jobs creation, value adding, and export revenue generation.
The first five technology entrepeneurial centers are the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) TBI, requiring P30 million; Knowledge Enterprise Incubation Center (KEICEN) at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB), with P10 million proposed budget; UP Visayas (UPV)-Cebu TBI; UP Visayas Iloilo Blue and Green (UPVI-BG-TBI), needing P8 to P10 million for building renovation; and the Davao Appropriate Technology Development Center (APPROTECH) of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST), which seeks Japanese funding.
The second set of seven techno-entrepreneurial centers are the Cordillera Agribusiness Incubation Center (AIC); Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI)-Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) Diliman TBI, needing P10 million for expansion; Visayas State University (VSU) TBI, P28 million proposed budget; DoST Region 8 (Eastern Visayas) Information Communication Technology (ICOT) Park, with initial P1.8 million budget; DoST-Region 4-B TBI; Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI)-Bicutan TBI, P30 million operational requirement; and Honeyfruit Gourmet Foods Kitchen Incubator in Palawan.
The setting up of the TBI is aided by collaborators Invent of Germany and the Philippine Council for Advanced Science and Technology Research and Development (PCASTRD), while financiers from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) and the Build-Operate-Transfer-Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) are now eyeing funding partnerships with the TBIs.
Franz Dietrich, managing director of Experplan which is carrying out capacity building for Invent of Germany, said the Philippine government needs to put in its own capital for technology entrepreneurial centers in order to give birth to industrial development.
"In many countries, you have to convince the government to put the money. There are 6,000 (technology business) incubators in the world, and less than 100 are privately run," said Dietrich.
Dietrich said Invent started its work in Thailand in 2003-2004 with only six TBIs. But this has blossomed rapidly to 180 because the Thai government is already convinced about the need to establish the TBIs.
Invent is a program of Germany's Ministry of International Cooperation and Development giving capacity building grants to developing countries for the development of technology startup businesses. It has such programs in Thailand , Vietnam , and Indonesia .
Invent's TBI capacity building grant to the Philippines started two years ago and is set to put up a published manual for setting up TBI as the program finishes this year.

Kaltehitze March 30th, 2010, 04:28 AM Biz groups see hope in Jamora
Some 300 businessmen and professionals in Iloilo City came out in force on Friday, the first day of the local campaign period, to show support for city mayoralty candidate Larry Jamora.
In a jampacked forum at Hotel del Rio hosted by a group entrepreneurs, Jamora was warmly welcomed and richly applauded as he bared his well laid plans for the city, impressing them with his candor and deep concern for the current stature of the city which has lagged behind other cities in the country.
Present in the gathering were a mixture entrepreneurs engaged in big and medium scale businesses, professionals in banking and commerce, traders, hoteliers and restaurateurs, even business players in the Filipino-Chinese community.
“This is unprecedented in Iloilo City’s political history,” noted a political observer who attended the forum. “Businessmen usually don’t want to be identified with any candidate, particularly in local politics. They tend to play it safe by staying neutral or keeping their choices to themselves,” he added.
The observation was affirmed by one of the hosts who disclosed that, earlier, at least 60 others who confirmed their attendance begged off at the last minute when they heard that the forum will be aired live and there will be mediamen present. In fact, many of those present asked not to be interviewed nor identified in press reports.
Still their support for Jamora was palpable. “We see hope in Jamora for our city,” enthused one trader. “Among all the candidates it is only Jamora who took pains to present a credible platform of government.”
“It is about time we put order to our city,” said one banker. “Kalaw-ay na gid sang aton siudad. Mahigko, Kagalong. (Our city is very ugly. It is dirty. Chaotic.)”
Asked about the report that businessmen are supporting another candidate for mayor, a leader of the Multisectoral Association replied, “Sa diin? Wala man kami kabati. Ari kami, di bala? (Where? We haven’t heard about it. We’re here [with Jamora] aren’t we?)”
It will be recalled that the Multisectoral Association, a group composed mostly of Filipino-Chinese businessmen in Iloilo, led the city’s business community against the excesses of then City Mayor Rodolfo Ganzon. While the association continues to exist long after Ganzon, it has remained in the sideline politically. Until now.
Jamora was joined in the forum by fellow candidates Mansueto Malabor for congressman, Dr. Aquiles Hortillosa for vice mayor, and candidates for city councilor: Peter “Mawa” Abadiano, Allen Aquino, Rolando Dabao, Dave Jamora, Mandrei Malabor and Dr. Rodolfo Villegas. (Willy Sotto)

steadyasweroll March 30th, 2010, 08:39 AM MEGAWORLD UPDATE!
- I was abe to pass by the old airport and I just found out that they were actually outlining the center islands for the main road. Two guys were measuring the outlines of the center islands from one end to the other. I think the masterplan that Bernie showed us would be followed since the road outline looks like the one from the renders.
- I think you just have too see it for yourself. I can't explain how I felt when I saw the tractors and dump trucks and construction workers in the MW site. I feel so happy and excited to see everyone there shaping up the ILOILO BUSINESS PARK.
Indeed, "GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT"
UPDATES:
- I have to ask, when ang Centennial sang ICCHS Main? Kay my friend from Hua Siong said that sa Centennial daw i launch ang ila ICCHS College or University Department.
- After our Center for Business Solutions, SPU-Iloilo is again constructing another office/workhouse for its HRM/ Tourism students. I don't know exactly kung ano sya but anyway, I'll keep you updated.

Amigo Mall, IMO is having an identity crisis. Its tenant mix does not complement with the image it wants to project. Daw mayo man facade ya kag entrance, galing ang iya mga shops sa sulod daw indi gid mayo. Ang mga baligya, ginapa-lay away pa.

Marymart Mall, amo man dyapon - damo tawo.
Atrium - budlay man dyapon parking kag damo tambay sa outside lobby.
I think Iloilo is ready for another big shopping mall.:banana::banana:

for now, I doubt that Ayala will put up a mall in the city. Bacolod might get one first. There is a reason why they are sooo cautious with Iloilo. Two things lang na: its either they totally don't like the Iloilo market or they are sooo cautious that they have to take the smallest step first.

vaatzhoy March 30th, 2010, 01:10 PM My sentiment about Fort San Pedro:ohno:
Fort San Pedro
A place of childhood memories
Ilonggos know where Fort San Pedro is. It’s a place where dreams lived and died. What is it nowadays? I-Travel decided to take a look recently.
General Hughes Street, the road going to Fort San Pedro from Plaza Libertad, still exists and it has been widened and well-paved. But it remains a short street, one where dreams came true and some where dreams went sour.
Along this street, you can see Spanish houses, wherein each abode has its history and architecture. One of the buildings here is the Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, formerly a school for girls. It has progressed since 1917.
The Fort San Pedro has its history as well. It still is the same thoroughfare, but it needs real reconstruction. Wishfully, on the future development planned along the way, this site should be restored, not modernized. The panorama is still there. The sunrises and sunsets still happen. Even dreams, that have come true need it, and the dreams for the future, flourish even more.

'Tyo Tagoy' March 30th, 2010, 03:29 PM UPV and GNU sign academic cooperation
“To develop academic and educational cooperation and promote undertaking between the Philippines and Korea” is the stipulation at the beginning of the Agreement on Academic Cooperation (ACC) signed by UP Visayas with Gyeongsang National University (GNU) of Korea on March 22, 2010 at the UPV Miagao campus.
Dr. Woo-Song Ha, President of GNU, signed the contract in Korea. Dr. Kil-Young Sung, Dean of the College of Marine Sciences, GNU, and Dr. Byeong-Dae Choi, Director of the Institute of Marine Industry of the same College, brought the signed contract to UPV Miagao for UPV Chancellor Minda J. Formacion to sign. The two served as witnesses for GNU while Dr. Leonor Santos, UPV Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, signed as witness for UPV.
The AAC will run for five years and hopes to develop collaborative activities in “academic areas that are of mutual interest” for both institutions “on the basis of equality and reciprocity.”
Specifically, the ACC will have an exchange of faculty, researchers, and other research and administrative staff, an exchange of students for academic work and field training, the conduct of collaborative research projects, exchange of information and materials, conduct of lectures and symposia, and promotion of other academic cooperation.
In a surprising disclosure, Dr. Byeong-Dae Choi, revealed personal reasons as to why he has been interested in pursuing academic cooperation with the Philippines.
“It is out of a deep sense of gratitude. My father fought in the Korean War with Filipino soldiers. Had it not been for them, I might not be standing here now,” he added.
Learning the English language remains a top priority for Koreans, according to him. He emphasized that acquiring the skills to speak the language will open the minds of his countrymen to the world and the international community. (Lyncen M. Fernandez/ UPV)

readytogo March 30th, 2010, 03:57 PM I agree! dapat mauna gid man ang retail strip. This might give them more than enough income for its next projects.
Regarding Ayala:
for now, I doubt that Ayala will put up a mall in the city. Bacolod might get one first. There is a reason why they are sooo cautious with Iloilo. Two things lang na: its either they totally don't like the Iloilo market or they are sooo cautious that they have to take the smallest step first.
-personally i dont care if ayala wont put up a mall or they will put up their mall in other cities...MEGAWORLD BUSINESS PARK is more than enough....mamatay nalang na sa inggit ang ayala kung mayo na performance sang MEGAWORLD sang ila investment diri sa iloilo, and di bala nag bid man ang ayala sa old airport site sang una galing la nag daog sa bidding?....hehehehe

Anyone been to Passi lately? Their u/c terminal building is HUGE and puts our terminals here to shame. Sorry I didn't get a shot since it was dark and I was on the other side of the bus.
BTW, Gaisano Passi is still working on the ground floor although rebars already reach the 2nd floor.
