Sa picture na lang naton makit-an ang Laguda Mansion. :ohno:

I hope this picture will serve as a constant reminder for us to really protect our rightful heritage as well as strengthen the laws that will protect these kind of structures. Another one of those casualty of war with Heritage Conservation. Another Heritage gone... tsk tsk!

Let this be the last one. Calling the attention of Cong. Treñas & Mayor Mabilog!

This is also the reason why mas mayo kung duwa ka distrito ang syudad, mas matatapan mayo in terms of laws and budgets.

para daa kanamun nga mga karay-a nga BPO......Tuya kanamun duro to pwede kaubra sa amo ja nga BPO...

Used to be C3 (c-cube partially owned by Lopezes) then HTMT and now Hinduja Global Solutions Limited (they change HTMT to HGSL early this year)... very diverse company from Oils & Lubricants(Gulf Oil), Banking, Automotive, Medical, ITES etc etc name them they have them. Hinduja is a very prominent business family in India similar to Lopezes here but in a much larger scale. I know this since I was able to work in HTMT before. And that Misra guy, is cool. :)

Three visayas provinces get 40MW more of electricity

Wednesday, 06 October 2010 09:18 Felix N. Codilla III / Correspondent
THE provinces of Capiz, Iloilo and Aklan will have clean, affordable electricity for the next 12 years.

This developed as the electric cooperatives (EC) of the three provinces separately signed contracts with the Green Core Geothermal Inc. (GCGI) that guarantees a long-term power supply to their residential and industrial customers.

Based on the contracts, GCGI will supply Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco) with 18 megawatts (MW) for 2010 and 10 MW from 2011 to 2020. Akelco serves 17 towns in Aklan and two in Antique.

Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) will get 12 MW for the next 10 years to energize 17 towns.

Iloilo Electric Coop (Ileco I) is assured of 3 MW from 2010 to 2012 and 18 MW from 2012 to 2022. Ileco I’s franchise area covers 15 towns.

Power will come from the 112.5-MW Tongonan 1 plant in Leyte and the 192.5-MW Palinpinon plants in Negros Oriental.

The officers of the three ECs all agree that geothermal power is the best option for them.

“We’re very happy with this deal primarily because of the low rates of geothermal power compared with other sources,” Capelco general manager Edgar Diaz said. “It’s good that we get 70 percent of our supply from the GCGI’s geothermal plants and only 30 percent from more expensive sources. We are able to provide both our residential and industrial customers with clean, stable and affordable power,” he continued.

Akelco general manager Chito Peralta likewise expressed satisfaction with the agreement. “Getting power has always been a challenge for us because as you know, Aklan is located at the tip of the grid. Now, Green Core will be able to augment the power supply of the province and encourage more tourists to visit Boracay.”

For his part, Ileco I general manager Wilfred Billena is confident the contracts will result in lower power rates for Iloilo, considering the pricing of indigenous renewable-energy resource such as geothermal is not only independent of any indexation to movements in global energy indices, but is also zero value-added tax rated.

“We’re very glad to have Ileco 1, Capelco and Akelco as partners in delivering clean energy to Iloilo and Aklan,” Energy Development Corp. (EDC) president and chief operating officer Richard Tantoco said. “The EDC’s long-term contracts with them will support the growth needs of their respective provinces and customers with clean, reliable and affordable power.”

“Since the industry is leaning more toward clean energy, EDC, with its 34-year head start in the geothermal business, is well positioned to address the supply shortage in the Visayas grid,” Tantoco said.

The GCGI is a subsidiary of EDC.

LAPSUS CALAMI
SEN. MAR TO RUN FOR THE SENATE IN 2013
WE have been receiving text messages encouraging former senator Mar Roxas to run again for the Senate in 2013, and to run for president in 2016.
It is his moral obligation to answer once and for all who is who in 2016 – VP Binay or Mar Roxas.
The recent election has a questionable result.
Binay won by 700,000 votes over Sen. Mar. But many believe it should have been the Ilonggo senator who won.
We are sure that in the 2013 elections, Sen. Mar will come out triumphant in preparation for the big fight in 2016.

SEN. MIRIAM AFRAID OF EXCOMMUNICATION
MANY are laughing at Sen. Miriam who was quoted as saying she was afraid to be excommunicated by the Catholic Church because of her favorable stand on the Reproductive Health Bill now pending in two Houses.
The popular and intelligent senator thinks that if excommunicated, she will lose her place in heaven when she dies. This belief, however, is unbiblical and contrary to what the Bible teaches.
There is no text in the Bible that when a person dies, his/her soul either goes to heaven or to hell.
What the Bible says is that:
1) From dust thou art and to dust thou shall return. -- Genesis 3:19
2) Sin and death have passed on to Adam’s children. -- Romans 5:12
3) It is man, the soul, that dies. -- Exequiel 18:4
4) Dead are unconscious, know nothing. – Ecclesiastes 9:5
Juan Peron, president of Argentina, was excommunicated in 1955, and Fidel Castro of Cuba was excommunicated in 1962.
Many other heretics, including Jose Rizal, were excommunicated. But it does not mean they went to hell.
We hope the lady senator will study the Bible, the word of God, so that she will learn the truth. Because the truth will set her free.

TIDBITS
1) RADYO NG BAYAN is off the air due to transmitter problems. We hope it will resume its operation as soon as possible because it is part of the Fourth Estate even though it is a government station.
2) COUNCILOR INDAY PERLA ZULUETA is still the most knowledgeable and intelligent member of the City Council. The moment she opens her mouth, words of wisdom come out and her audience learns a lesson.
3) THE once infamous Calajunan dumpsite is now a clean, green and beautiful place because of the beautification program of Mayor Jed Mabilog. He signs marriage contracts provided the parties plant trees in Calajunan. It is now an eco-park.
4) ENGR. AL FRUTO is still the assistant of Engr. Jerome Borjal, project manager of the Iloilo Flood Control Project. Playing second fiddle, Al is getting all the blame from the public because of substandard works in the project.

SHE WAS PIRATED FROM THE PIRATES CLUB
AN ingratiating and beautiful hostess of the Pirates Club has been under the manly spell of a mayor in the 5th District of Iloilo until another Casanova met her and tantalized his emotion even in the stillness of the night.
Since her former lover is a political enemy, the Casanova tried all means to win the heart of the young and sexy lady until her flag was surrendered.
The war between the two municipal leaders goes beyond the limit of politics.
We heard that the “winner” is more “democratic” in terms of pecuniary offer than the other fellow who is an “Ilocano boxer.”
Say mo, Peter P.?
Larry “dies-dies” crying!

NELLY GARDEN – PART 2
AFTER an item here last week, we received many reactions from the reading public.
One reaction came from Senior Executive Assistant Vicfac who said that the alleged “illegal structure” in front of the Nelly Garden on E. Lopez St., Iloilo City is not a part of Nelly Garden’s lot.
It is not owned by Nelly Garden, according to the former vice mayor.
He said it is owned by an Indian national.
But Vice Vicfac agreed that the building does not have a three-meter easement from the edge of the road, which is illegal.
“We will demolish it if the owner refuses to make the necessary adjustment because the violation is very clear,” the city official told Lapsus.
He added that the City Engineer already sent a notice to the owner, but it appears that the latter is determined to fight City Hall.
Let us see the unfolding events.

VisMin solons protest
‘unfair’ budget allocation

By DAVID ISRAEL SINAY

ILOILO City – Congressmen from the Visayas and Mindanao walked out of the House of Representatives’ budget hearing Wednesday, complaining of inequitable distribution of infrastructure projects.

The bulk of the appropriation for physical infrastructure projects were poured to the National Capital Region (NCR) and Luzon, said Cong. Jerry Treñas.

Luzon was allocated 16 percent of the budget while NCR has 3.6 percent.

Visayas has a meager share of 7.7 percent while Mindanao will only get 10.6 percent, Treñas said.

“We felt bad,” Treñas told Panay News in a telephone interview.

He said they later met with House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Majority Floor Leader Cong. Neptali Gonzales, Cong. Jun Abaya and Budget Secretary Florencio Abad.

He said Luzon and NCR had enough infrastructures.

“If we talk of infrastructures, we are way behind NCR and Luzon,” said Treñas.

“It has been decided (during the dialogue with the House leadership) that they equalize government resources. They will work it out to equalize the remaining lump sum appropriations,” he said.

Treñas said “the dialogue came out good, there were commitments made but it remains to be seen.”

Meanwhile, Treñas said he wrote Department of Transportation and Communications Assistant Secretary Ildefonso Patdu to come up with a study on the feasibility of having a mass transit system for Metro Iloilo.

“(Patdu) told me they will look for sources of funds for the study,” he said./PN

Youth gang linked to another taxi robbery

BY RUBY P. SILUBRICO

ILOILO – The taxi driver who was dumped in Brgy. Namocon, Tigbauan town last month was also killed by the True Brown Style (TBS) Gang, said Senior Supt. Gil Lebin, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).

He identified two suspects – Manuel Roquero of Brgy. Kasing-Kasing, Molo Iloilo City and Alfred Molina of Brgy. Bonifacio, Arevalo, Iloilo City.

Lebin said a 17-year-old member of the TBS Gang spilled the beans on the two.

God’s Well taxi driver Felix Centino of Mandurriao, Iloilo City was found dead in Tigbauan on August 29. He succumbed to multiple stab wounds.

Roquero and Molina are also the suspects in the death of taxi driver Jurimon Juridco this Monday.

The 33-year-old resident of Brgy. Magsaysay, Maasin town drove a Tata taxi. He was found dead in Ledesco Village, La Paz, Iloilo City.

The Iloilo City Police Office has identified another suspect the other day – 22-year-old Raynaldo Dizon of Brgy. East Timawa, Molo, Iloilo City. He, too, is a member of the TBS Gang and confessed to the crime after his arrest./PN

Indian firm to hire 500 workers for contact center in Iloilo City

Indian call center firm Hinduja Global Solutions will hire an initial 500 employees in November for its 2005-square meter facility at the Ayala Techno Hub in Riverside Boardwalk, Mandurriao, Iloilo City that will open in January next year.

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog was informed of the hiring by Hinduja Philippines president Pushkar Misra who met with him yesterday.

The Ayala IT Park will open in December.

Mabilog said the new call center will provide more employment opportunities for the Ilonggos and will boost local economic activities.

Misra said their company decided to settle in Iloilo City which is a “prominent next wave city” ideal for call center locators.

“We have seen a big pool of available qualified manpower with the presence of many educational institutions in the city. We are happy to do business and grow faster here. We are happy to know that a new coal plant will be online soon,” Misra said.

The Hinduja Global Solutions has employed 14,500 workers as of 2009. It started operating in 2000 in India, and expanded in Manila in 2003. It now has 23 delivery centers across the Philippines, India, US, Canada, and Mauritius.

It has acquired businesses of major international clients with some leaders in insurance and telecom industries.*

BFP calls for vigilance vs fire during brownouts
By Jennifer Ponsaran-Rendon

The Bureau of Fire Protection in Iloilo City has called on Ilonggos to increase vigilance on circumstances that may cause fire especially during brownouts.

On Tuesday, two fire incidents occurred in the city in a span of four hours in areas that were experiencing power outages.

The first, in the thickly populated Brgy. Rizal Ibarra, City Proper, where three preschoolers died, and later in Mohon, Arevalo district.

City Fire Marshal Rodolfo Denaga said they are looking at the two possible causes – short circuit of electrical wiring and unattended lighted candle.

“That’s why, they should be vigilant on the things that might trigger a fire,” he said.

As a precaution, Denaga has proposed the conduct of fire safety seminars in villages.

He also advised the public to employ good housekeeping.

“We should always clean our house and get rid of garbage and clutters,” he said.

Denaga stressed the importance of electrical safety. “They should not use jumpers or tampered electrical fuse.”

He also cautioned residents of the proper storage of flammable materials like gas and cooking oil.

“These liquids must be a safe distance away from where the cooking happens or the area where there are flames,” he said.

Denaga said it is important to check and unplug electrical appliances before going to sleep and before leaving the house.

As for the use of candles, he said it must have a ceramic or steel holder and must be placed away from curtains.

Valves of liquid petroleum gas must also be closed after cooking.

Moreover, Denaga appealed to village officials, especially in areas that have many informal settlers, to give the BFP an opportunity to conduct fire precautionary lectures and seminars.

“We also advise them to have their own fire volunteer brigade, which will serve as their first line of defense,” he said.

The fire brigade will enable residents to designate responsible persons to take care of calling the BFP if a fire will break out, the fire fighting operation, rescue, and traffic.

On Tuesday afternoon, the fire at Brgy. Rizal Ibarra left some 50 houses destroyed and damaged.

During the mopping out operation, the charred bodies of cousins and playmates Kyle Cotangco, John Raxielles Ledesma, and Roxy Lyn Ledesma, all four years old, were found inside the comfort room at the upper floor of Councilman Roque Española’s residence.

One of the fatalities was Española’s grandchild.

The fire, believed to have started from Española’s house, was reported to the BFP at 3:12 p.m.

The fire spread quickly as most of the houses in the area were made of wood and light materials. Fire trucks also failed to penetrate the inner portion of the village because of narrow passageways.

Records of the City Social Welfare and Development Office show there were 53 razed houses and one damaged.

The Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School, Bonifacio Elementary School, and Rizal Elementary School were designated as evacuation areas for the fire victims.

At 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, another fire occurred at a two-storey structure, owned by Kate de Asis and rented by Marissa Galanto, in Brgy. Mohon, Arevalo.

An unattended lighted candle was believed to have caused the fire.*

Jed orders clearing of Iloilo River
By Lydia C. Pendon

AFTER clearing Iloilo City sidewalks of illegal structures, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has trained his sight at encroachments along Iloilo River.

Mabilog’s order will demolish illegal structures from Parola area in City proper district to Carpenter’s Bridge in Molo.

Mabilog ordered the Iloilo River Development Council to demolish illegal structures especially the makeshift mini wharves of some river fishermen.

Mabilog said these “baroto rentals” and makeshift wharves have no permit from the city government, violate environmental laws and are not safe for community use.

The city mayor also ordered city environment and natural resources officer Noel Hechanova to assign river guards at strategic points along the river to discourage people from patronizing boat rentals and river cruises.

Mabilog said he saw a makeshift wharf and boat cruising at the river in San Pedro, Molo.

Cops hunt
gang leaders

By Tara Yap

THE Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is hot on the trail of the four core members of the teen gang True Brown Style (TBS-13).

S/Supt. Dennis Basngi, ICPO director, said they are hunting Manuel Roquero (alias “Tata Lupin”), Al Molina, Naldo Abaygar, and Emac (real name still unknown) in the aftermath of the arrest of TBS gang leader Reynaldo “Alvin” Veracruz Dizon.

Dizon, 22, was nabbed in a joint anti-narcotics operation of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-6) and the ICPO’s City Anti-Drug Special Operations Group (CAIDSOG) Tuesday. He is one of the suspects in the series of robbery incidents in the city and the murder of two drivers of God’s Well Taxi and Tata Taxi.

“We have to locate and verify their true identities,” Basngi said.

Basngi said the four gang members may have already fled Iloilo after Dizon’s arrest and exposé.

“There are reports that some members have already fled to Manila and Cebu,” he added.

Gang leader Dizon earlier said that the four core gang members have their own recruits and separate underground activities.

Dizon claimed TBS-13 has more than 100 members from the city’s six districts and are composed of high school and college students and out-of-school youth.

Basngi said the police have to validate Dizon’s revelation although he said authorities initially did not take seriously the gang’s existence.

Basngi said TBS-13 has now gained notoriety because of its involvement in killing taxi drivers.

The police also have reason to believe that warring factions within the gang led to their notoriety. The killings might be part of the rivalry among TBS-13 factions.

“That’s probably the reason why they murdered taxi drivers,” Basngi said.

Meanwhile, Basngi said the ICPO is closely coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to countercheck if Dizon or any of the TBS-13 gang members may have been involved in other criminal activities.

DOST - PCASTRD - TRC - WVSU Undergoes Feasibility Study to Establish Technology Business Indicator Facility in WVSU Main Campus

Technology Business Incubation or TBI is one of the government’s (DOST) thrust to help or assist would-be entrepreneurs to start a business involving a new technology or local product. Specifically, this TBIF project proposes for a two storey building complex made up to recycled container vans but equipped with air conditioning units, water, light and communication facilities and other facilities needed for an office or laboratory. TBI was patterned from developed countries in Europe and well-known countries like Thailand and Korea.

In the Philippines, well-established TBIFs are only a handful as in UP Dilliman and Cebu. The Technology Resource Center, a GOCC under DOST, under the leadership of Director-General Dennis L. Cunanan, is mandated to verify, disseminate, promote, and commercialize local products/technologies and is interested and committed to assist WVSU establish the proposed TBIF Facility to be constructed at the back portion facing Magsyasay Village based on the MOA signed last January 2010. Thus, the project began this September 2010 with the funding from the DOST-Philippine Council for Advanced Science and Technology (PCASTRD) with Dr. Gerard L. Penecilla and Prof Joel de Castro as Project and Assistant Project Leader, respectively . The TRC Officials headed by Mr. Abelardo Valdez and Ms. Cherryl Ortega came to WVSU last October 6-8 to assist in the preparation of the FS and the Business Plan.

GOV. ART TO RESTORE THE OLD CAPITOL

ILOILO Gov. Art Defensor will restore the old Iloilo Capitol Building because of its historical value.

Established in 1864 by Gov. Jose Ma. Carles, the building was finished by Gov. Enrique Fajardo in 1873.

According to historian Demy Sonza, he was the same Col. Fajardo who offered a room in his house in Valenzuela, Spain to Graciano Lopez-Jaena when the latter arrived there in 1880 to study medicine.

The old Capitol Building is a historical landmark that proudly mirrors the prestigious chapter of Iloilo City as the “Queen City of the South” during the Spanish era.

Gov. Art is one official with an admirable sense of history.

“To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history.”— Cicero.

Mabilog mulls selling housing project
BY JEZZA NEPOMOCENO

ILOILO City – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is thinking about selling the housing project in Brgy. Ungka, Pavia town to add funds to the ongoing construction of the new City Hall.

Mabilog said the city government still needs about P200–300 million to buy additional facilities.
He recently ordered the inventory of the 11-hectare property in Pavia after the city government revoked the contract of Ace Builder and Enterprise, the project’s contactor.

Uane L. Opinion of the City Engineer’s Office will facilitate the inventory on October 11.

The mayor said there were already interested buyers of the property, mostly land developers.

“If we will sell (the property), we can probably regain what we spent for the project,” said Mabilog.

A competitive bidding will be conducted once the city government decides to sell the property, he added.

The city government is looking for other possible sources of fund for the new City Hall.

The FF Cruz and Associates, the contractor, earlier revealed that facilities like generators, air-conditioning systems, elevators, fixtures and other amenities needed for the building were not included in the contract.

Mabilog said what is being constructed now is just the “shell” of the building and nothing more.
“I am quite alarmed that if such (amenities) were not included, it would mean additional cost and borrowings for the city,” he said.

The city government applied for a P450-million loan from the Landbank of the Philippines for the construction of the seven-storey edifice that will rise beside the Plaza Libertad./PN

Aquino opens largest corn facility in SEA

By Norman Bordadora

REINA MERCEDES, Isabela, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino Friday inaugurated the P500-million Reina Mercedes Corn Processing Center in this old farming town, the biggest post-harvest facility not just in the Philippines but in all of Southeast Asia.

“The small corn farmers will directly benefit from this,” Mr. Aquino said at the commissioning rites for the facility, during which he ceremonially switched on the equipment that started the center’s operation.

The immediate benefit for the farmers will be in the form of higher incomes and better yields because of the infrastructure and the machines that will dry and process their corn, Mr. Aquino said.

The RMCC, built at a cost of P500 million, will help local farmers by directly purchasing their produce of fresh corn-on-the-cob, and processing them into high-quality corn grains for the food-milling and food-processing industries.

The facility can process up to 200,000 metric tons (MT) of corn-on-the-cob into dried high-quality grains, and store these in huge, state-of-the-art bulk silos with a total capacity of 60,000 MT.

It was built by Mindanao Grain Processing Co. (MGPC), a unit of the La Filipina Uycongco Corp. group of companies. The MGPC also operates two corn processing centers in Bukidnon province, but the Isabela facility has five times the capacity of the Bukidnon plants.

The inauguration of the RMCC was the highlight of the three-day 7th Philippine National Corn Congress, whose closing ceremonies Mr. Aquino keynoted yesterday.

The congress is the annual gathering of more than 3,000 corn farmers and industry leaders, agricultural technicians and other industry stakeholders.

The President thanked Dr. Alfonso Uy, the MGPC chair and other company officials for building the corn-processing center in Isabela.

“You already improve the quality of their corn harvest, they also manage to sell to you their produce for the right price,” he said.

The MGPC said it put up the center “to improve agricultural efficiency, increase farming income, develop food security and promote social justice not only for the farmers of Isabela but also for the whole region.”

Isabela province is a major corn producer in the vast and fertile Cagayan Valley region.

Mr. Aquino said his administration plans to put up one corn dryer for every 1,000 hectares of cornfields, especially in Mindanao.

Revitalize agri

He said trading centers and seed storage facilities will also be set up to ensure the quality of the seeds for the farmers.

The President said his administration would use the P1.3 billion that used to be allocated for subsidizing the farmers’ purchase of seeds to fund long-term programs to revitalize agriculture.

This will include the rehabilitation of the country’s irrigation systems, to be undertaken by the Department of Agriculture, the National Irrigation Administration, local government units, volunteer groups, cooperatives and private business.

“These public-private partnerships are the quickest means wherein we can build small-scale irrigation systems in the countryside and immediately address the lack of water,” he said.

Loan portfolio

Mr. Aquino said the government would also increase the production loan portfolio for those who engage in agricultural projects.

He said this will be done in cooperation with Land Bank of the Philippines and other government financial institutions.

“Rural banks and cooperatives that farmers usually go to for financial needs will participate in these projects,” Mr. Aquino said.

According to the MGPC literature, the Reina Mercedes facility will initially be able to accommodate 15,000 hectares of corn harvest per season. Its processing capacity will expand as supply increases within the area, it said.

Initially, it will process 100,000 MT of corn which will benefit 4,000 corn farmers in the area, the MGPC said.

The company said the center’s drying systems for corn grains have a drying capacity of 1,000 MT a day.

It said the center uses “the most modern” post-harvest equipment, handling and storage facilities in world.

the lifestyles of two ilonggo peoples - those of iloilo and those of negros/bacolod - are nowhere more evident than in the fate of mcdonalds in their respective places. whereas mcdonalds thrives in bacolod, it is not doing so good in iloilo.

the ilonggos of south cotabato though, are similar in temperament with their iloilo kin.

just an honest observation.

Mc Donalds here in Bacolod is also in the downtrend in fact there were branch closures before and this is the only branch (Lacson) that is doing good business. With Jollibee and KFC as its neighbor., it has no other option but to make the place classier, prettier and wider .. :D

there's a rumor that next to be renovated is their East Branch ... :) hopefully soon ... :)

Agree. It's better for our local brands to grow and conquer not only the domestic market but also, someday, foreign markets.

just imagine it if there's mang inasal in seoul: Feeling homesick about iloilo? No problem, order a take out of mang inasal, bring home and chow it down while browsing ssc-iloilo.

Getting tired of the heat in dubai and you wish you were in a coffeeshop in iloilo instead? If there's coffeebreak in dubai, then you could bring alive all those memories of iloilo by sauntering into a coffeebreak branch and order your favorite frap.

Wish you could have some awesome oysters in manila? No problem, marina does the trick.

while its good to have foreign brands come in, for the sake of the OFW's sanity, we should keep on supporting our own local brands until they can have the market share and financial muscle to finally make that push into OFW territory overseas.

the lifestyles of two ilonggo peoples - those of iloilo and those of negros/bacolod - are nowhere more evident than in the fate of mcdonalds in their respective places. whereas mcdonalds thrives in bacolod, it is not doing so good in iloilo.

the ilonggos of south cotabato though, are similar in temperament with their iloilo kin.

I have eaten at McDo Atrium for such a long time and it isn't always that jampacked as you have said 24/7. Basing on the floor area of McDo Lacson, you can put a fully occupied McDo Atrium in Mcdo Lacson with still more seats available. And plenty of customers during lunch only?? he hehehe. try eating breakfast there everyday to see for yourself.

A TEST OF JED’S POLITICAL WILL

MAYOR Jed has ordered the Iloilo River Development Council to demolish illegal structures along the Iloilo River -- from the river’s mouth in Parola up to the Carpenter’s Bridge in Molo.

What we are interested to see is if the good mayor will be true to his order to get rid of ALL illegal structures in the river – not just the makeshift mini wharf of some river fishermen for their bancas, and their fish pens.

Does Jed have the political will to demolish the wharf especially constructed for a privately-owned yacht along Muelle Loney?

Will he also demolish some two to three houses built on the bank of the river just across another illegal structure -- the ‘BBQ Park’ of Councilor Edward Yee? We heard that the houses are owned by the supporters of dethroned “king” Raul.

The last time we checked the houses a few weeks ago, ginapa-pintahan pa ang atop. As if their owners have no intention of leaving the river bank and do not care what the city government does. Shameless indeed.
Say mo, CENRO Bernabe?

Indian BPO firm to open in Ayala Techno Hub
By Francis Allan L. Angelo | The Daily Guardian (http://thedailyguardian.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20548&Itemid=1)

AN Indian call center firm will be the first company to operate in Iloilo City’s newest information technology (IT) complex in Mandurriao district.

Hinduja Global Solutions will hire 500 employees for the opening of its 2,000-square meter facility on the second floor of the Ayala Techno Hub in Riverside Boardwalk, Mandurriao.

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said Hinduja Philippines president Pushkar Misra and Hinduja vice president for human resources Vida S. Arciaga met with him Wednesday to discuss their expansion in the city.

Hinduja will be the sixth major call center firm to set up shop in Iloilo City which has been ranked as one of the next wave cities in the BPO industry.

The Indian firm timed its entry in the city with the opening of the Ayala IT park in December and operation of the coal-fired power plant owned by Global Business Power Corp. in La Paz district next year.

Misra said they will be hiring workers, especially Ilonggos, who live near the IT park.

Hinduja decided to settle in Iloilo City being a “prominent next wave city” ideal for call center locators, Misra said.

“We have a seen big pool of available qualified manpower with the presence of many educational institutions in the city. We are happy to do business and grow faster here. We are happy to know that a new coal plant will be online soon,” Misra said.

The Hinduja Global Solutions employs 14,500 workers as of 2009. It started operating in India in 2000 and expanded in Metro Manila in 2003. It now has 23 delivery centers across the Philippines, India, US, Canada, and Mauritius.

Its major international clients are in the insurance and telecom industries.

Hinduja’s Iloilo branch is the first outside Metro Manila, Misra said.

Mabilog said that aside from Hinduja, he has been receiving inquiries from other call center companies on the prospects of expanding in Iloilo City.

The city mayor said the city is now ready to accept new investments and business locators with looming operation of the coal fired power plant. The bulk water supply to be implemented by Metro Iloilo Water District will address the water shortage in the city.

The Ayala Techno Hub (composed of three buildings with support facilities and amenities for BPO locators) is a P1-billion investment of Ayala Land Inc.

The firm is initially putting up a 3-storey building worth more than P305 million.

^^McDo Atrium is not that always packed with people 24/7 and damo pirme bakante nga seats sa 2nd floor unlike sg una sg wala pa ang McDo sa Marymart. IMO McDo Jaro na ang mas busy subong 24/7 kay there are times ang pila dira sa counter kalaba biskan gab-i na katama.

Yes, damo gid man dira ga breakfast sa McDo Lacson kay before dira man ko gahapit kung aga and their service there is much better compared sa iban McDo branches even in Manila --- mahipid, malimpyo, matawhay.

sa subong guro migo daw lain gid, kay every week magtabok ko before magpa bacolod airport, daw mas damu tawo sa SM..mas nami da mag grocery, isa gid na nga ginalagas sang taga Bacolod ang supermarket nila nga damu mapilian.. ang Rob nga supermarket pigado gid baligya nila, especially sa mga fresh products..even ang food court nila, wala gani katunga sang iya ka SM..just my observation man..:):)

nice to know that, as expected amo gid man ina gakatabo once SM enters the scene biskan diin nga location where there Rob vs SM, ang Rob gakaapawan gid ya but the good thing lang sa Rob is that gabato sila ya gihapon to keep up with the competition unlike sa Gaisano nga well, you know na man ah.

The building is still under construction...I was there yesterday and maybe another month pa ah...

They didn't meet the deadline...

anyway soon to open in SM City: Charles and Keith, Dermaline, Tibiao Fish Spa(), Pomelo Lifestyle, Reggatta, Starbucks, Jems Barbershop...Halos wala na bala bakante...Nice......

^^wala pa natapos ang canopy roofs and the landscaping.

Implement city programs,
barangay captains told

ILOILO City – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog urged village heads to strictly implement all the programs of the city government in their communities.

The programs will only be successful with the active implementation of them by the village heads in the community level, he explained.

Among these programs are the new garbage collection schemes, impounding of stray and rabid dogs, drive against illegal power connections and anti-drug campaign.

Mabilog reminded barangay officials that the city government is paying for their services with the people's tax.

The chief executive stressed that he is not keen on knowing who they supported in the past elections. What is important, he stressed, is that they must be efficient in their work.

Iloilo City has 180 barangays. (PNA)

Whoa nalampasan ko ni ba. How could I possibly miss it? Must be reading that fast. hehehe
Wow! Injap, after his gated community Project is now into Condos.

I think after Mang Inasal... this will be a HIT in Iloilo City to think no one dared yet to venture in this kind of business. If this goes well.... mark my word, it will trigger a chain reaction of sort... or a domino effect with other local businessmen, scrambling for lots and build their own condos. I think some of the big businessmen in Iloilo City are in watch mode right now as to Injaps new investment. I predict a BUYING frenzy since,

1. Its the first Residential Condo in Iloilo City, or the first of its KIND. (Think about the pride of owning one, vain as it may seem to sound :D)

2. Location is in the FUTURE CBD... think about 'price appreciation' (Prime Location... a spit away from MW and Smallville Entertainment Complex and ATH + PdI + Schools etc etc)

3. Sound investment since its no less than Mang Inasal himself.

4. If everything is brought into the table and PRICED RIGHT like the PABORITO MEALS of MI, I predict another HIT from this dynamic, risk-taker and visionary young businessman. :okay:

Again like PdI, Homegrown businessmen are leading the WAY! This... is GOOD GREAT!

Spot ON! Amo na ya!
Di gid ta magsalig sa outsider dako ( I am not saying that an investment from an outsider is no good, the thing is LOCAL bizmen knows more the people or the local market and what they need and want, so they have a better perspective of what the temperament of the locality is) lain gid ya kung tumandok mag invest kay syempre lain gid ya kung ginabobo mo balik ang grasya sa imo lugar nga ginhalinan. In any case, an outside investment is welcome since it brings out the best in our local bizmen! As always competition is good for a sound economy! :D

^^ Whoever SSCer sent that email to Hinduja, I say...you did a job well done! :applause: :okay: You just attracted a major investor in our city...dapat magkitaay pa kamu ni as promised nya, hehehehe!!! :D Looks like will be hearing good news within the next few months. :D

Sutherland Hire 5,000 RP Agents
source (http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=52427592718&topic=13742)

Sutherland Global Services, a business process outsourcing company based in New York, aims to double its workforce in the Philippines by hiring over 5,000 agents within the year to add strength to its present workforce of 5,500.

Fifteen percent of Sutherland's overall business is in the Philippines and to help plans to start new facilities in the cities of Davao, Tarlac and Iloilo, the company needs to hire 5,000 fresh agents from different cities. At an average of $3,500 per seat, Sutherland needs an investment of $17.5 million to fulfill these plans.

To attract fresh markets such as Southeast Asia and nearby countries, the footprint of Sutherland in the Philippines must be moreover expanded to other parts of the country other than Pampanga, Makati, Naga and Davao.

The hiring of more than five thousand new agent is a great employment opportunity for those Filipinos fluent in English in the provinces of Tarlac, iloilo, Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur.

Alliance Global expects profits to surge in the next two years

ANDREW L. TAN-led Alliance Global Group, Inc. is expecting profits to grow faster in the next two years given organic expansion and better economic prospects.

For this year, the conglomerate sees net income attributable to shareholders to surge by 38% to approximately P6.62 billion, from a 23% growth to P4.8 billion last year.

Continuous expansion are set for its property, liquor, quick service restaurant and hotel and tourism businesses, an executive said in a briefing yesterday.

“With the improving global economic climate, backed by the renewed optimism of the local and foreign investors regarding the growth prospects of the Philippines, we are confident that Alliance Global is poised to take advantage of such an environment and build on the momentum we have created in all segments of our business,” said Alliance Global President Kingson U. Sian.

Mr. Sian said there is the “momentum of the growth of the economy and the business itself so we believe we can do another 38% [rise to P9.14 billion] next year on top of this year.”

For this year, realized revenues from its hotel and tourism unit, the business of Alliance Global, will drive growth. “It will still be less than Megaworld Corp. but it will probably be the second-largest contributor,” Mr. Sian said.

Units of Alliance Global are: listed property giant Megaworld that accounts for almost half of the conglomerate’s profits; consumer units Emperador Distillers, Inc., which produces brandy labels Emperador, Generoso and The Bar; and Golden Arches Development Corp., the master franchise holder of McDonald’s in the Philippines.

It also has a joint venture with Genting Hong Kong Ltd., the third-largest cruise line operator in the world, for Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc. that develops and operates the eight-hectare Resorts World Manila complex in Pasay City.

For the liquor unit, Mr. Sian said the company will launch new products not present yet in the market while expanding production capacity.

In terms of McDonald’s, Mr. Sian said: “For next year, we look to at least open 25 stores.” McDonald’s targets ending the year with 310 stores.

Furthermore, property giant Megaworld wants to replicate the live, work and play community it created in Eastwood City in Libis to other locations. Megaworld, which has 65,000 square meters (sq. m.) of retail space in Eastwood City, has sold 7,300 units in its 20 residential towers.

Existing land bank of 105 hectares in the sprawling Fort Bonifacio Global City in Taguig is already good for 15 years of development, Mr. Sian said.

For instance, the 35-hectare McKiley West project will have 70,000 sq. m. of retail space while the residential phase will generate P5 billion in revenues.

There is also the 15-hectare mixed-use Bonifacio Uptown project, which will have 464,500 sq. m. of residential, 386,000 sq. m. of office and 90,000 sq. m. of retail space.

“By the end of 2010, we will have 384,000 sq. m. of office space, most of it leased up already,” Mr. Sian said, adding that there will also be 70,000 sq. m. of retail space. “This year, we are looking at P3 billion in rental income,” he said.

Meanwhile, Travellers International, the developer of Resorts World Manila in the 25-hectare Newport City in Pasay City, wants to tap the market potential of two billion tourists that are within four hours of flight radius to Manila.

Total investments in Resorts World Manila from 2009 to 2012 is $740 million, of which $600 million is for tourism development and $140 million for residential and retail.

Resorts World Manila will have four hotels with a total 1,800 rooms catering to the budget, middle and high-end segments.

“We believe that aside from business process outsourcing, the next big thing would be tourism,” he said, adding that they will develop the 54-hectare old Iloilo airport and a 25-hectare property in Mactan City in Cebu.

Since the opening of Resorts World Manila in September last year, Mr. Sian said the company has welcomed 2.5 million tourists.

Mr. Sian said the company wants to be the entertainment destination for tourists from adjacent Asian countries.

In August, Alliance Global raised $500 million from its maiden bond issue. The seven-year international bonds were higher than the $400 million the conglomerate initially wanted to sell.

Mr. Sian said fresh funds will be used for project expenditures.

Shares in Alliance Global, whose consolidated net income rose by 36% to P4.83 billion in the first half driven by a 22% climb in consolidated revenues to P21.26 billion, fell by 0.41% or four centavos to close at P9.50 each yesterday. -- Neil Jerome C. Morales

“It humbles me to know that Mang Inasal has become an instrument to positively touch the lives of my countrymen. With the phenomenal success of Mang Inasal, I have already reached my personal contentment but I am still working hard, no longer for my self, but for the good of other,” sabi pa nito.

Soup is good food... and business

The humble batchoy -- comfort food to many Ilonggos -- has become the iconic food of Iloilo. A bowl of steaming batchoy may look appetizing yet simple but, if one digs deeper, you will find an interesting story of an entrepreneur and his progeny.

Teodoro "Ted" Lepura invested all of his 10 pesos to start his eatery in a public market. He served what became his signature dish -- La Paz batchoy. While the soup originates from the town of La Paz, Mr. Lepura perfected its broth and added round noodles called meke. This was way back in 1945 when he sold batchoy at 20 centavos a bowl.

Among his children, it would be his daughter Adelfa (now Borro) who would inherit both his penchant for cooking and entrepreneurial spirit. At 10, she was already trained to be the cook and templadora (one who mixes and adjusts the taste of the broth). To this day, she has maintained the original flavor of her father’s famous batchoy or as what others may say, "just like the old times." Indeed, a bowl of Ted’s Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy holds much history.

For as long as he was alive, Mr. Lepura lorded over his kitchen. Ms. Borro took over managing the business only after acquiring her Commerce degree from the Western Institute of Technology in 1973. By that time, the business had grown from its stall in the La Paz Public Market into a full-fledged restaurant called Ted’s Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy. Mrs. Borro’s skills in the kitchen and her inherent understanding of the Filipino merienda mentality were instrumental in helping the business thrive.

"One of the things we needed to ensure was a consistent ’old-timer taste’ for every bowl of batchoy," she relates. "Some of our loyal patrons had been coming to us for years and we couldn’t disappoint them."

Banking on the Filipino habit of merienda (mid-morning or late afternoon snacks), Mrs. Borro decided to use her own savings and a bank loan to expand the family business. She opened a branch on Valeria Street, Iloilo City in 1985.

At first, the restaurant served batchoy with puto or pan de sal as side dishes. She started to introduce batchoy options like other choices of noodles. She also came up with Namit (Yummy) Meals, All-Day Breakfast Meals and Pancit Guisado Specials. These new products were well-received by customers, kept competitors at bay and generated more sales for businesses.

"Sipag (hard work), tiyaga (perseverance) at tibay ng loob (guts)," Mrs. Borro says, are the necessary ingredients to success.

These values have continually pushed Ted’s to its steady growth. Seeing that the business was gaining a major foothold in the market, she started streamlining operations in 2002 by establishing a company profile and formalizing the operations manual. A year later, Mrs. Borro embarked on a more aggressive expansion route through franchising. Ted’s Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy now has 12 franchises all over the Philippines in addition to 23 company-owned restaurants.

However, expanding the business came with its own set of challenges. When the company decided to open a branch in Mindanao, they were faced with a non-pork eating clientele. Mrs. Borro responded by introducing the beef batchoy.

"Although the basic ingredient is beef, it still has the rich meaty taste and distinct flavor of the original recipe. You can barely tell the difference!" she enthuses.

The beef batchoy became a huge hit and is now offered in all Ted’s branches nationwide.

Ted’s Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy has already become a household name in the food industry with branches all over the country and still growing.

Yet Mrs. Borro has never been one to rest on her laurels. Understanding the need to nurture the business into the future, she began to explore the next stage in Ted’s evolution. She initiated renovations at all her restaurants, outfitting then with modern decor and architecture.

In keeping with the times, she started exploring the cafe concept where ambience and comfort complement delicious and affordable food. When Ted’s opened its newest branch on May 16, 2010 at Diversion Road in Iloilo City, this cafe concept was adopted. The food offerings now include a variety of coffee concoctions and an assortment of cakes and pastries for Dulgie’s -- Ted’s sister company owned by Mrs. Borro’s daughter, Allen Mae. Eventually, steaks and grilled specialties will be worked into the menu.

These innovations helped Mrs. Borro score a coup for Ted’s; the concept became popular not only among longtime patrons but also among the young and upwardly mobile crowd. She is also looking at ways to target home consumers.

Working close-ly with the Department of Science and Technology, Mrs. Borro is planning to develop an instant noodle version of the famed dish. She is confident that the product will stay true to the taste of the original La Paz batchoy. Richer in flavor and fuller in taste, Mrs. Borro believes that her instant La Paz Batchoy will be unlike any other being sold in the market.

Ted’s Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy has been recognized for its excellent reputation and customer service. In 2005, it was declared the Best La Paz Batchoy by the National Shoppers’ Choice Awards. Mrs. Borro is committed to maintaining this position by focusing her efforts on continuously enhancing product quality, restaurant ambience and customer service.

"I always remind my employees that their good service reflects not only on the business but on the Ilonggo culture where good food must be prepared and served with the highest quality," she emphasizes.

She also believes in adopting a hands-on management approach to running the business. "As an entrepreneur," she reasons, "you have to stay on top of operations and know every aspect of the business. Being hands-on is crucial in driving business growth."

A formidable business figure in her own right, Mrs. Borro has come a long way from being her father’s little kitchen helper. Now the visionary behind Ted’s Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy, Mrs. Borro knows all too well the value of hard work and perseverance. Of all the lessons Adelfa Lepura Borro has learned since taking over Ted’s Oldtimer La Paz Batchoy, the most lasting is that a strong belief in oneself and the fearlessness to take on calculated risks can do wonders for the business. Her father’s legacy has taught her that good old hard work almost always results in abundance.

"As an entrepreneur, you have your work cut out for you. And yet all you really need is the determination to see it through," she says.

Good. At least we're starting. :applause:

Anyway, the second question is, is this a high-end, mid-range or low-end condominium project? Because if it is something that is patterned towards the young professionals, it is ideal for transient workers such as call center agents and others. Most especially, those who have difficulty going home because of the "curfew" of jeepneys such as in Pavia.

Why I have thought of this? Because I myself is dealing with the same situation. Although I'm on a different location, however we have the same dilemma--distance and transportation over cost of living. If you live closer to where you work, that's better productivity and less of the stress. And as I see here on the location map, its in the centre of the KAPIDECO development--just near SM, Plazuela, Ayala and very accessible from the Diversion Road which links to almost all of the areas of the city.

How much does it cost? Is it for sale (per unit) or can it be leased or rented upon? These questions are determinant for the condominium's future.

battle of the Ilonggo Business tycoons :banana::banana::banana::banana:
I'm glad that our local businessmen are competing against these big multi-national companies investing sa Iloilo. Good job for Mr Sia and Mr Florete. I hope to see more Ilonggo businessmen joining the competition. Who will rule Iloilo's Business Market in the next five, 10 and 20 years? We'll see.

Wow! Kadasig kay silky ba! Daw si Injap man kung mangibot! Great JOB! :applause::okay:
Wala gid ni sa HH ta dri, all the while he (INJAP) is planning this.

My initial observation is pangmasa gid ini. Especially ang Studio kag 1BR targeted for yuppies ini. Considering the location is prime. And really with this initial foray in Condos, Injap is testing the Iloilo Market. I think, again as I posted earlier, this will be a HIT. Sold out na ina upon launching.

What I am expecting is the POTENTIAL MARKET will be put to test and finally the argument about Iloilo being ready or not for a condo will be put to rest!

I think INJAP knew this all along.... OFFER something that is not offered. That is why this will be a huge success. So, will we be seeing more? Definitely!

What say you Lopezes, Chusuey, Florete etc?

^^
Soft opening more likely! Considering its FLORETE, budget is definitely not a problem. Actually, he will earn more... since there is a completion date (contract) the contractor will most like PAY a penalty fee for every day the project is delayed. :D

Besides with the modifications on the original design, other added changes/structures might have delayed the completion. :)

^^
Hopefully ,may ara na sila fliers with all the necessary info. :)
To sum it up... LIVE WORK PLAY environment like MW is being envisioned.

By the way @WangZY, nice to meet you.

Regarding the delay of Plazuela, well, I'll just give the benefit of the doubt or whatever...its there. Patience is still a virtue folks. Sometimes there are things that we need not to hurry. Because those things that need not to hurry, are the things that we may value the most. :D

^^

Injap is trying to replicate the success formula of MI in other fields of business.

Yup, esp Diversion area... its really a battle ground of local, national and multinational players.

Who knows basi si JQ of CB, Waffle Time, IS, Q Solutions, Green Mango fame has something similar in mind? Now that would be interesting!

(Why I say this? Its the trend like SM and Robinsons, after malls they are into condos and the ROI is great)

i hope there will be updates from our local newspaper if they move the opening date of Plazuela de Iloilo.

Metro, I'm thinking it'll be a good start of competition between our local businessmen in Iloilo. Tan-awon ta gid kung diin ang ibuga nila. Siyempre ang pinakadamo negosyo nga ipundar sa ciudad, more likely, dako man ina ila capital. The battle of Ilonggo richest continues. Ang mga Lopez daw nadula na? Ang Florete nagbalik na naman thru Plazuela plus they incorporate into real estate thru their Florete Land. Injap being young and a new player will surely give these old Ilonggo tycoons a run for their money. We'll see.

Ayala in Pavia is tarting to shape up as well. Mostly, national players ang ga-dominate sang Pavia with a handful of local real estate players sa side. I hope other MIG's towns will step up to compete with the big three - Oton-Pavia-Iloilo City when it comes to residential developments.

On one side, he seemingly lacks the "pride" and instead envy of what other achievements has. In case of Iloilo City AGAIN, it is not under his jurisdiction--don't tell me he'll meddle the city government affairs like how Governor Gwen Garcia meddles with Cebu City affairs? Ohboi, doesn't seem something new to me. Then why not tell that to Jed? Oh, I get it...they're not under the same party.

Another one is that as if he is a complete whiner. If he indeed didn't gave any solution and instead whine and whine and complain about the state of Iloilo City and Province, then I think he's a total loser. He seems to contradict what he is saying on his aims to drive tourism (and lest we come back to the PN article a few months back). He should've at least gave a solution to these issues. He lacks that "youthful idealism."--Urgh, why do we have old men running our provincial government!

On the other side of the perspective, he may be challenging us, himself and the leaders of Iloilo to move forward and make Iloilo another destination. Indeed, Iloilo lacks the tourism facilities and needs some more improvement. But for Iloilo City, it has to make artificial and also improve its natural sites. For the province, geez, there are about 1001 ways to improve tourism infrastructure.

But if we heard what he said in Bombo itself, if his intonation and the way he describes his words is pessimistic, then I guess this old man needs some pampering.

Yet regarding his latest whining over the radio, why am I not surprised?

Here's the thing about Cebú, they are more of private and mercantile support, rather than the government. Although their LGU has at least made the climate of investment good, but it is the private sector and the citizens themselves that propelled Cebu to what it is now. Even if Cebu City and Province right now are quarreling, their private sector still moves on with investing and investing and developing and developing. Yes, it may affect the economy, but the government is not the sole "be all, do all" in our economic setup--we're not some socialist states or totalitarian states. :D

Why don't we do that to us as well? After all, it was also the private sector that also propelled us back then in the "glory days" of Iloilo too. ;)

And yes, politics. Concepcion Sub-Province (what is now 5th District) is a bailiwick of the Tupas. Oh well, the politics of local chiefdoms still exist in this modern day and age.

Hi again Bernie, your concern is being addressed considering that by 2011, the Provincial Tourism Office will be re-energized, and the governor has directed Bombette Marin to study the set up in Negros Occidental for replication. :)

Ti, sa mga Bacolod/Negros (may it be inside or outside SSC) haters ta diri...ti, ano mahambal nyo? Looks like its some slap of icy cold water in your faces right?
Looks like we have to learn our tourism practices from our brethren from pihak isla. ;)

Bisan sila na lang mismo dira sa capitol o kung ang private sector sa Iloilo na lang magplanning, sigurado makita gid nila kon ano ang problema. Planning then tapos may funding kag govenrment support lang. . . okey na ina sya! Ano ang buot silignon sang gobernador man? May kata. . . han!? Ano man?

i hope there will be updates from our local newspaper if they move the opening date of Plazuela de Iloilo.

We'll see.

^^
I bet my life on it. And I think they didn't see this coming as well. Caught by surprise? I think so!

^^
We'll see about that. Give it 2-3 years... other MIDC towns will surely step up. I am not sure about San Mig since most land are irrigated.

good morning iloilo,

i heard news from bombo last night interview with Gov. Art. he said that iloilo has no tourism spot example kuno iloilo city was city of waste higko kuno ang suba dalan kag damo kuno vendors, about sicogon island nd kuno nami kay lip-ot kuno ang beach area unlike boracay, agho island in concepcion indi nami kay la source tubi. ang bucari leon la kuno nami nga road toward that area. kanami no? sa inyo guys maayo ni klase sabat. pabugal ya pa ang cebu kag bohol hikayan ya lugar ya. (i expect he give the solution)

politician ta dri sa ILOILo kulang sa "PATRIOTISM"

^^
Then what the hell HE (Gov. Deafensor) is in position for? Just how STUPID can you (Gov. Deafensor) get?

For God's sake why the hell are you dipping your filthy fingers with the affairs of the CITY wherein your JOB is to take care of the Province? (FYI Mayor Jed is doing well, what about you OLD FART? Can we expect the same brand of enthusiasm?)

Please STOP embarrassing YOURSELF! If you cannot do the job well, then by all means step down and give it to someone who WILL! Whining will GET us no where, I say start WORKING your ass out, otherwise you just wasted the VOTE of the ILONGGOS! You were not ELECTED in position to WHINE, otherwise you are more suited to write LAPSUS CALAMI daily!

Yudeputa kag tunga! :bash::bash::bash:

I can't believe the degree of IGNORANCE showed by the Governor WHINER that we have! Shame! Shame! Shame!:bash:

When all is said and DONE! Tupas can smile from ear to ear! He is way better than his successor!

Just my bloody 0.02! :bash:

Teh kundi solusyonan nya. Governor sya. Indi nga mangsuya sya.

^^
Spot on!

I suggest that you reach your comments on Nereo Lujan's or Raul Banias's Facebook. Most likely they'll refer that to the governor. At first glance it is indeed something disheartening to hear from the head of the provincial government. On other side, we--private citizens of Iloilo--should take action in making our tourism industry, at least flourish.

I'm still hopeful despite the seemingly hopeless churva of the governor--to think of it, the other side of Defensor said that he will renovate the old Casa Real (Provincial Capitol) and make IRC as a museum is something.

So as for now, I give the benefit of the doubt. Yet we need action, not just words.

Anyway, I do not need to explain further on my opinion. Just read the previous pages. :)

Maybe one example of how we can manage to improve our tourism potential would be as simple as this...

You see that the Riverside Boardwalk has some landscaping going on. This area is full of potential...however, there is an eyesore here, what is it? Can we improve that facility into something and not as mediocre as what we see there?

That's our challenge. Let us not be mediocre with our tourism or virtually anything--including agriculture. Let's strive for the best, not that "hay, okay na bala ina, mausaran naman na" attitude.

My dos sentimos. :2cents:

I guess we can share some interaction with Nereo or Raul. Its better if we ourselves directly speak to the Capitol itself on our reaction about the latest comments of the governor.

Naunahan pa ako 'day ken. hehehe!:bash:
Anyway, lipay man ako lagaw-lagaw sa siudad kag bal-an mga developments.
Kahapon i watched Srbisyo Publiko ni Tita Pearl. Hambal ni Jed, Calle Real and City Proper mastart ang development next year August 2011. May ara na mga interesado magdevelop. This include Central Market.
