Tadjar November 3rd, 2010, 04:59 PM Iloilo business sector, IT industry laud RP winning as ‘Offshoring Destination of the Year’
ILOILO CITY, Nov. 2 (PNA) – The Philippine’s winning of the "Offshoring Destination of the Year" for 2010 among the United Kingdom business process outsourcing (BPO) markets is good news, especially that Iloilo is also one of the country’s promising business process outsourcing destination, according to the business sector and the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (I-FIT). Lea Lara, executive director of the Iloilo Business Club (IBC) said that it enhanced the positioning of Iloilo which is also “going towards the same direction.” She explained that at present, two available infrastructures are waiting for would-be locators, the Plazuela de Iloilo and Ayala, both situated along the Benigno Aquino Diversion Road in Mandurriao district.
“That’s really good news,” she said.
Joven Tansi, the executive director of the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology, said that the human resource was one of the driving forces that really made the Philippines a viable destination.
Aside from plenty of graduates, he emphasized that Filipinos have a good command and comprehension of the English language and accent.
Iloilo City ranked fourth among the country’s next wave cities and among its highest indicators are its quality graduates. The recognition was extended during the National Outsourcing Association (NOA) Awards Night in London last week, a report from the Manila Bulletin was quoted.
The NOA award cited the country’s strong labor force, high literacy rate, world-class telecommunications infrastructure and government support as reasons for choosing the Philippines against other nominees in its category, the report added. (PNA)

Well, we will just focus ourselves in the daily papers, local or national for news and developments. Or inside info from those who have connections. The sad thing about this is that other people cannot distingush opinion from FACT. Also, good thing that we categorize info here in our thread, like if its not yet official we just consider if 'HH' for the mean time as opposed to 'KK' or kutso-kutso which is nothing but 'barber's tale' or 'kwentong barbero.'
Bottom line, as long as we see these 'HH' realized or translated to tangibles, then we can be happy that slowly our aspirations for our beloved Iloilo is being achieved one by one.
My 0.02. :)
Padayon! Waswas kag Hanot ILOILO!

In Ilonggo, 'gasakit ulo mo matumar ka bulong para sa lupot?'
ANS: Definitely NO
kung, YES iya sabat, depende na sa tao, basi iya tyan sa ulo kag iya utok sa iya tyan.:nuts:
What is that denial? Or acting stupid? Truth is, Cheap Stable Power is one of their strengths while ours is ManPower. Again, per my previous POST, the main lifeline of BPOs esp Call Centers are STEADY Supply of ManPower given the high attrition rate. Power alone will not suffice. As what Prince mentioned, in India (was it Bangalore?), they have brown out as well similar to Iloilo, but still why so many BPO's? Simple, India boast of qualified, steady source of quality manpower esp IT.
Again, that is a probability. Ask Globe, and it will answer: 'walang imposible.'
T'yoy Tagoy said it best: Come to where the ManPower is, Come to Ilonggo Country!

RE: Transcom, first choice is Iloilo, nagka-problem lang sa power. Then they considered our neighbor. I posted it a year before it went operational. Check the post. My source is my brother who works in Transcom because he was offered a position to work in Iloilo once they put up a branch here which he promptly declined.
Then also, Transcom got problem with quality manpower with our neighbor, remember my PM before about Versant?
That is why the Voice accounts are here in Iloilo. You you the rest.

Iloilo was the original site, nagka-delay lang. The reason I posted the LINK is to show that I have that INFO long before Transcom expanded in Visayas. :nocrook:
eonynx November 3rd, 2010, 06:08 PM i would chose JPMorgan/Lexmark
good company choices!
i can't speak for jp morgan cebu and lexmark cebu, but since these two companies are within your radar, let me give some unsolicited heads up.
1.) lexmark manila- depending on your experience as a tsr troubleshooter, the ballpark figure can be anywhere from 22k-27k for experienced cc agents. i'm not sure about the cc greenhorns but definitely, they would command a lower rate.
2.) jp morgan manila-almost certainly not less than 25k for experienced cc agents. it can go up to 30k depending on the length and quality of your experience. if you would be profiled for the credit card activation/inbound sales, that's another cool 10k-25k commission on top of your already above-average-industry basic pay.
my other suggestion is go for thomson reuters as a researcher. the ballpark figure could be anywhere from 25k-35k for experienced agents. another is branders for seo and sales positions where your potential earnings could be anywhere from 23k to 50k per month. hope that helps and good luck!

I see. Lexmark and Dell has almost similar offer for TSR, though Dell is a tad higher. :)
Yup, JP Morgan & Reuters are great choices... actually before I went back to the 'fold' I was eying Reuters supposedly after Dell. :D
eonynx November 3rd, 2010, 06:43 PM ^^oh yes, i forgot to mention dell, grrrrr! dude, try studying to be a multi-lingual like a french or spanish or mandarin. thomson reuters could offer you up 65k just for the basic if you're a fluent multi-lingual!

Usually they give premium to Mandarin and Spanish.
I hope they will re-introduce Spanish to Colleges if we wanted to become competitive. My father used to have one way back in his college days. :D
eonynx November 3rd, 2010, 06:51 PM ^^especially mandarin!
right now, ga self study ko french. i got an offer before sa jp morgan but it's for a fraud account. the pay is good but it's a toxic lob. gusto ko tani sa sales! but anyway, sa sales account man ko subong ah, so ok lang!
lewdsaint November 3rd, 2010, 06:54 PM Dont forget the Eagle Building infront of Freedom Grandstand which is also another potential for BPO offices location.
Once the New City Hall Building is completed kag mga opisina sang city hall magsaylo na...RPI will be another BPO offices location.
Not to mention the Gaisano Capital and vacant space at Amigo Plaza.
^^ I never thought that @tagoys post will create another commotion sa thread:lol:
His post is another gud news for Iloilo (no big deal about that), one of BPO haven kita, since narecognize ang Philippines sang British based org as a BPO hub, expect, mawaslikan gid ang Iloilo sang grasya since we have the quality of manpower they (BPO investors) need, the cost of doing business is excellent, ready-for-occupancy locations (Ayala, PDI, Malls) and the promising CFPC:).. Amo na very optimistic gid si Lara (kabarangay ko:))... amo lang ni pagkaintyende ko:)

Injap is real FAST in cashing on what will be the future trends. While others are dreaming, HE is already doing something. In a way he is a business trend setter in ILOILO City. Hopefully other businessmen in Iloilo City can pick up his style.
Injap is way ahead of Ayala and MW, and I think Injap in a way, OPENED the gates for Ayala and MW...
I mean seeing the positive reaction from his Peoples Condo. To think Injap's PC has been launched just few weeks ago yet its almost sold out! Come on, almost sold out in LESS than a month? If that's any indication, it simply means the purchasing power is great! :D
Ayala and MW then concluded that Iloilo market is RIPE and there is indeed a demand, a real one, not perceived. The thing is Injap beat them to it. :D:okay:
he wont be acknowledged by various business magazines and go negosyo if he isn't extraordinary. imagine being a billionaire in his mid 30's? he really has a brilliant mind. no wonder, the prediction that he might overcome henry sy or even lucio tan in the years to come. really an ilonggo pride. i wish him luck and success. go injap! establishing the first condominium of iloilo city, is a product of his business instinct. he's reading and mapping out the city's future, and he's simply seizing the initiative.

Ok man kung i-reintroduce pre, since dala sya sa curriculum. But what is better kay we have already Centers for Foreign Languages sa aton mga universities, may special programs for Spanish, French, Italian, Mandarin, German, Korean, Nihongo, and English. I think WVSU, USA, SPUI, ga-offer sang mga programs nga ni. Which means mas competitive workforce gid kita nga gina-foresee because of the support of necessary programs na kinanglan sa current demands of business industry :)

OFW hospital proposed in Iloilo
ILOILO CITY, Nov. 3 (PNA) – A hospital that will cater to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) is being proposed in Iloilo replacing the earlier plan to put up an OFW wing at the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao district.
Samuel S. Madrid, Regional Welfare Office director for Western Visayas disclosed that the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Board of Trustees through a resolution decided to put up a hospital instead of a hospital wing.
The proposal was to come up with a two-storey building in a 2,000-square meter lot in Pavia, Iloilo that was donated for the said purpose. “That’s about a 50-bed hospital,” he added.
However, the project has to wait following the "shift in paradigm” with the new administration that came in.
He admitted that one constraint would be the fund because establishing a hospital really entails a big amount of money.
Also, some paper works have to be done relative to the lot donation.
Madrid added that the project may kick off within the year or in the coming year. (PNA)

Iloilo schools urged to produce competitive graduates
ILOILO CITY, Nov. 3 (PNA) – The Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (I-FIT) is looking forward to an increase in the human resource need of the information technology (IT) industry, especially those engaged in the business process outsourcing such that schools situated even outside of the city have already been urged to produce competitive graduates to fill in the demand.
I-FIT executive director Joven Tansi cited that Iloilo is fast becoming an emerging destination in the Philippines and has ranked fourth among the country’s next wave cities.
Most of those who are hired are from city-based colleges and universities but the projection is that there would be a shortage of graduates to meet the labor force demand of the industry.
At present, there are about nine BPOs operating in Iloilo employing around 3,000 Ilonggos.
Starting January next year, another call center is about to open here which is expected to open seats to accommodate some 3,000 employees.
Also two infrastructures are being readied here, the Plazuela de Iloilo and the Ayala to meet the demand of locators.
Tansi said the plan is not just to concentrate on city schools but to move away from the city and prepare the schools and universities there to meet the influx of the industry. (PNA)

Dont forget the Eagle Building infront of Freedom Grandstand which is also another potential for BPO offices location.

Thanks for acknowledging Prince. :)
^^
Well, that is better but it would be BEST if it will be part of a college curriculum again. I think the Center for Foreign Languages entails a separate enrollment. What I am routing for is for Spanish to be a subject in college again, my father used to have Spanish 101 & 102 til 103 [not sure of 103] way back in his days. I'm not sure if Spanish 103 & 104 are part of basic college, if not, then its the Center for Languages job to provide that if you want to study the advance curriculum [at your expense too]. Having Spanish 101 & 102 will be another advantage for our manpower.
I remember way back in 2006 where I started working in a Call Center, in my previous company where they have Spanish CS, majority of the agents are in their late 40's to early 50's. And also BPO's pay a premium for both Spanish CSR & TSR. Now, if we can have a share of that pie, that would be awesome. :D :okay:

How I wish may ara man BPO or call center nga mag-relocate sa Eagle Building. That will help revive sang surrounding area and eventually the old Central Business District - apart from crowd brought about by new City Hall employees, daily visitors, people transacting business, and a lot more.

Great! Wish I was able to avail that.
My Latin is only Medical Latin. Nothing more.
I hope aside from WVSU, USA & SPUI, other schools/colleges/universities will have their own Center for Foreign Languages as well.
I think for Mandarin you can enroll in Washiong, Sun Yat Sen, Sta. Maria [now AdI] & ISA. As early sa elementary may ara na sila. :D
spacewagon0001 November 3rd, 2010, 08:37 PM OFW hospital proposed in Iloilo
(PNA)
LAP/ajp/PGLena/vlo
say mo Bern's?
fully support the proposal - i hope this will be realised sooner. Kadamo OFWs sa Iloilo and it'll be good kung may ara sila hospital like SEAMEN's by seafarers. Once maumpisahan ini, dugang naman business sa Pavia and of course other businesses that the new hospital will bring along with them or create tha'll complement the new medical institution. Well done!

next time, i-PM lang para makibot lang bala.:lol::lol::lol::lol:
Besides, I'm sure Ayala will focus more on the construction of Ayala Technohub. As said ages ago, Ayala Land will not only looking at mall development sa Iloilo but they're very aggressive and bullish with Iloilo Market. Then comes AVIDA, and suddenly the AYALA TECHNOHUB, and now the CONDO? I won't say a word but I guess my friends are really right gid. Now, natuod gid man ang pinanghambal niya. Iloilo business sector, IT industry laud RP winning as ‘Offshoring Destination of the Year’
ILOILO CITY, Nov. Lea Lara, executive director of the Iloilo Business Club (IBC) said that it enhanced the positioning of Iloilo which is also “going towards the same direction.” She explained that at present, two available infrastructures are waiting for would-be locators, the Plazuela de Iloilo and Ayala, both situated along the Benigno Aquino Diversion Road in Mandurriao district.
..........
a big promotion for Iloilo City's BPO industry in the world. By winning the competition means a lot to Iloilo City's business and investment portfolio. Alas, Iloilo City when it comes to IT/BPO industry is raving good reports from global BPO market. Last year, apart from winning in Asia, Iloilo City was also recongnised by the USA. Now, Europe will look at Iloilo City for more outsourcing demands due to this excellent fete. By far, hands down to Iloilo City's promotion when it comes to BPO. Well done ILOILO !!!
Hala Bira ILOILO !!! :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Another FIRST for ILOILO from SM. :okay:
IMHO, same for Jaro Supermarket (HS pa alng ako sina) and I think same with SM Savemore Jaro. This needs confirmation though. Hopefully, Blue Guy can help us with this since he is connected to SM, he might have an idea.
hahahahaha.. go, go, go SM !!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
Baskog gid iya ang Jaro ah, tatlo na ila SM. Puwede patindog naman ang SM sa iban nga districts sang Iloilo City? It's nice to know that SM is very confident of Iloilo's market. Considering that there are 5 SM stores in Iloilo City already simply shows how resilient and robust the city's economy.:banana::banana:
^^
:D:okay:
that's what I like with Injap, he's very clever and very aggressive competitor in businessworld. Now, that he's got billions in his pocket, he can further expand his business empire. One thing that sets him apart from Lopezes is that, his businesses always groundbreak in Iloilo. The man is a very strong Iloilo supporter, so watch out for more projects coming from his company.
Thank you, INjap !!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

medyo malayo kung tan-awon pero I guess kung may bridge, Ilonggos with cars will more likely to drive to Guimaras than take a pumpboat kung matabo. Mas maayo pa gid ni kay they can bring as much stuffs as they can for partying, swimming, etc kesa sa knapsack lang kay mabudlay magsakay-sakay nga damo ka dala. Anyhow, i'm supporting the creation of Iloilo-Guimaras bridge. This will be the realisation of a strong partnership of Metro Iloilo and Guimaras, as a one metropolitan body.

spacewagon0001 November 4th, 2010, 12:33 AM RMN Iloilo hosts annual
management conference
ILOILO City – After 58 years, Radyo Mo Nationwide (RMN) holds its Station Manager’s Conference in Iloilo for the first time, a move that reinforces the strengthening management support to RMN Iloilo as one of the principal contributors to the network’s financial treasure.
RMN President Eric Canoy with brothers Butch Canoy, vice president for Sales and Marketing, and Charley Canoy, vice president for AM Operations, lead 100 delegates and participants to this year’s network fellowship at Punta Villa Resort, Arevalo district with the theme, “TATAK RMN..1, 2, 3 Roadmap to the future.”
This three-day conference kicked off yesterday with the arrival of station managers and station officers from 60 strong and No. 1 RMN and IFM stations nationwide.
Eric Canoy opens today’s gathering with the traditional “State of the Network Address” (RMN SONA).
While other companies engage themselves in bullying and penalty-setting sessions in the opening ceremonies of their annual conferences, RMN as inspired by the motivating spirit of the late Don Henry Canoy, tackles issues of accomplishments, acknowledgements of the best-performing stations, improvement of programming, public-service enhancement, next year’s sales target, employees’ benefits and other motivational endeavors.
Seen as an apparent move to highlight RMN Iloilo’s sudden rise to sales and ratings supremacy, the network wants to deliver a message to the hometown of its former industry nemesis.
“We are glad that in a short span of time since the station’s relaunching in 2006, RMN has made the radio competition exciting,” says Iloilo Station Manager Ronel Sorbito.
For his part, Iloilo Station’s Special Projects head Rod Tecson said, “We have exceeded our target sales quota as high as 150 percent in the second semester of this year and surpassed by as far as 150 percent the political sales quota in this year’s presidential elections – a manifestation of advertiser confidence in our ratings and marketing efficiency.”
Novie Guazo, Iloilo Station’s program director, added: “TATAK RMN creates waves since its conceptualization and starts to compete in the locality’s old household broadcast name. But we go beyond competition. We aim not to break the records but to set them. We do not want to banish without a broadcast trace.”
Meanwhile, Jeony Bigay, RMN area manager for Western Visayas, welcomes tomorrow’s delegates in Bacolod City for the culminating activity which will be highlighted by the blessing and inauguration of its new broadcast center.
“RMN Western Visayas welcomes one and all to the networks’ revenue-haven in the countryside. We are grateful to the full support and management back-up of Mr. Charley Canoy and Mr. Rey Bayoging (AVP for AM Operations) who made all these things reachable,” says Bigay.
On the part of the City Government, Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog through his City Administrator Norlito Bautista will officially welcome the delegates to the host city./PN

spacewagon0001 November 4th, 2010, 12:35 AM Sports complex to undergo facelift
ILOILO City – The Iloilo Sports Complex (ISC) will undergo major repairs in preparation for the West Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet which will be hosted by the province in February next year.
Francisco “Bombit” Heler, administrator of the Iloilo Sports Complex, said Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. allocated P12 million for the repair and repainting of the different facilities at the complex.
The budget was included in the Supplemental Budget passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Tuesday.
Heler said among those to be repaired and refurbished are the play courts such as basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, the swimming pool and the track oval.
The perimeter fence as well as the comfort rooms will also be repaired and repainted for it to be presentable to the visitors, Heler added.
Meanwhile, Heler said the covered gym located 200 meters away from the main complex will also undergo major repair starting next year.
He said P13 million have been allocated for the rehabilitation of the covered gym in the 2010 budget.
The last time ISC underwent major repair was in 1991.
The province of Iloilo last hosted the WVRAA meet in the year 2005. (Capitol/PN)

Pre, if what you said is TRUE from what you have heard sa TV, here is my comment regarding Reklamo Publiko interview. [Here I was referring to the officials from you know where]
In Ilonggo, 'gasakit ulo mo matumar ka bulong para sa lupot?'

(PNA)

On my part, I think na we should encourage and support entreprenuership sa aton hometown because they can generate jobs.
Special shoutout lang to SSC-Iloilo's entrepreneur and future big time businessman, IAMME ah: Keep up the good work! Keep on investing sa aton city and province, we're proud of you mehn!
JollyGypsy November 4th, 2010, 02:51 AM best news i've ever read this week. I'm glad Iloilo is really making waves in international IT. With this alone, a lot of businessmen from other countries will become curious sang aton ciudad, and the looks for proofs kung ngaa we are winning sa mga competition. I hope to see more BPOs locate their offices in Iloilo - a major boost to our local economy kung matabo.

As for starbucks, they know the spending habits of ilonggos. That's why they placed their first branch very near the BPOs (Teletech in SM City and PdI) because they know that the agents will really really need coffee. That's where the demand will come in.

Indi man siguro pre ah. Syempre, ang coffeebreak na ya i-patronize gid ina. However, there are some things that will work in favor of SB even if there is a CB nearby:
1. Agents need coffee - That's a fact. We see that all the time in Metro Manila. When you're really really sleepy, and you need to really really perform on the job, you will avail yourself of INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH coffee because sometimes, those instant coffees just cannot cut it (right berns? hehe)
2. Smallville - Party people will really need to tone down the alcohol after a hard night's party. CB is always full. Those who want coffee but can't avail of seats in CB will need to go an alternative place, that's where CB comes into the picture.
3. Koreans - Iloilo city's population is not composed solely of ilonggos. There are korean expats here studying english. They have that capacity to avail of SB drinks.

jayjay6100 November 4th, 2010, 04:09 AM Congrats Philippines and thank you IloIlo Business Sector kag IT Industry sa pagrecognized sa sining achievement kag mayo nga advantage sa IloIlo Kay damo available manpower..:banana::banana:Iloilo business sector, IT industry laud RP winning as ‘Offshoring Destination of the Year’
ILOILO CITY, Nov.
(PNA)

EVARISTO November 4th, 2010, 04:26 AM OFW hospital proposed in Iloilo
(PNA)

spacewagon0001 November 4th, 2010, 06:30 AM City finalizes study on sanitary landfill
ILOILO City's Solid Waste Management Board (SWMB) is finalizing the feasibility study on the Calajunan dumpsite's conversion into a sanitary landfill to beat the December 2010 deadline for the dumpsite's closure.
The study was reviewed in Cebu City last October 25-27, 2010, by members of the technical working group headed by Engr. Raul Gallo, in coordination with consultant POIEL Engineering and Management Services Inc.
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, SWMB chairman, admitted that the feasibility study will have to be revised for the third time so that the clean development mechanism (CDM) will be integrated into the sanitary landfill project.
Dr. Johannes Paul, team leader of the SWM4LGU, supported by the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), said the CDM, a new technology, will have to be integrated into the study before the project is recommended to the Development Bank of the Philippines and German Development Bank KfW for funding assistance.
Mabilog said the DBP has assured the city of a P60 million loan for the sanitary landfill project.
Dr. Paul said the CDM application for solid waste management enhancements at Calajunan is a technology transfer that will enhance waste processing and reduce waste disposal at the dumpsite.
Currently, the dumpsite gets 170 metric tons of garbage every day. The city had proposed a new landfill but found out that the establishment of a new landfill is insufficient to realize material and energy recovery and would instead only result in various health and environment risks.
The GTZ expert said that supporting technologies have been targeted to enhance the solid waste management system. Since more than 60 percent of the collected wastes are organic in nature, the recovery of these wastes instead of disposal is considered critical in avoiding methane generation and greenhouse gas emission.
Garbage composting is less effective and unsustainable especially when quality and marketing aspects are considered, while a new anaerobic digester technology was identified as most promising in emission reduction.
However, Dr. Paul said the identified new technology is still unavailable in the Philippines and the City Government of Iloilo will have to seek United Nations assistance and apply for support through the CDM assistance as regulated by the Kyoto Protocol. (Lydia C. Pendon)

Sports complex to undergo facelift

But unlike sa mga taga-Luzon where all the "poshness" are heavily considered, Iloilo is more "Live and let live"... silky November 4th, 2010, 07:24 AM W. Visayas positions as ‘clean’ energy hub
ILOILO CITY -- The office of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in Western Visayas said the region can serve as a hub for renewable energy projects.
Gil A. Altura, chief of NEDA-Western Visayas’ Project Development Investment Programming and Budgeting Division, told journalists here that the region can be a frontrunner in renewable energy development in 10 years.
He noted that the region now hosts several major renewable energy projects such as the 40-kilowatt (kW) Canauilan-Barasalon Micro-hydro plant in Janiuay, Iloilo; as well as the 32-kW Balea Micro-hydro plant in Calatrava, 32-kW Vergra-Magtuod Micro-hydro plant and the 21-kW Baclao Micro-hydro plant in Cauayan in Negros Occidental.
All of these have been undertaken with aid from Japan.
There is also a 15-kW hydro plant being built in Sebaste, Antique, as well as the 8-megawatt (MW) Villasiga Hydro plant in Bugasong and the 2.1-MW Guiamon-San Ramon Hydro plant in Laua-an, all in Antique.
A memorandum of agreement for hydro power exploration has also been signed recently by Conal Holdings/Alto Power Management Corp. and the local government units of Kabankalan and Negros Occidental for the proposed 40-MW Bago River Power Plant.
Biomass plants include a 21-MW plant of First Farmers Holding Corp., a 15-MW plant in Mina, Iloilo and a 17-MW plant in Capiz of Green Power Panay Philippines, Inc.
For wind power, Trans-Asia Renewable Energy Corp. has been working a 54-MW project in San Lorenzo, Guimaras.

silky November 4th, 2010, 07:25 AM Pepsi’s local unit to put up biomass plants
SINGAPORE -- Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. plans to build 11 renewable energy plants to provide power for its steam machines.
Redentor R. Gabinete, commercial director of Pepsi Philippines, said in an interview at the sidelines of the Clean Energy Expo Asia that the company would be putting up biomass plants with the help of renewable energy companies at its different plants nationwide.
“We’re working with different project proponents for clean energy plants in our plants. We already have a plant in Muntinlupa that powers our steam machine to clean bottles. It uses coconut hulls and we are planning to source more of our steam from those kinds of plants,” said Mr. Gabinete.
The plants will mostly be biomass plants and will be built in La Union, Pampanga, Naga, Cebu, Leyte, Bacolod, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, and Davao.
These plants are expected to be built in three to five years. Once the plants are online, they can generate 11 megawatts (MW) to 15 MW of power.
Pepsi Philippines is looking for either build-operate-transfer or build-operate-supply agreements with renewable energy companies.
With these projects, Pepsi Philippines hopes to lower its power costs.
For the Muntinlupa plant alone, Pepsi Philippines can save four million liters of fuel with the use of biomass plants, Mr. Gabinete said.
Mr. Gabinete said the company’s main investment in the project would be the land where the plants would be built.
Renewable energy companies to be tapped under the partnership will get financing from banks through the World Bank’s International Finance Corp.
“Our investment is really in the land. But beyond that we could also help the community. For those areas where the biomass supplies like coconut hulls will be sourced, we can give Pepsi products in exchange for their coconut wastes to sell in their cooperatives,” said Mr. Gabinete.
With a guaranteed offtaker like Pepsi Philippines, renewable energy companies may find it easier to pitch their clean energy projects for financing, Mr. Gabinete said.
The Clean Energy Expo Asia gathered industry players and experts to share information. The event, part of Singapore’s International Energy Week, will run until today.

damo developmants nga nagalulusot lang sa Iloilo lately. And what makes me really happy is, it's not all in the city lang. The businesses and investments are really expanding to other towns of Iloilo.
Pavia is becoming the hub of all new residential and gated communities in Iloilo, halos diri mo na tanan makita ang mga dalagku-an nga residential developments. Oton (Savannah-VistaLand) and Sta Barbara (Filinvest-Megaworld) will surely compete heads on in the future.
Southern Iloilo - apart from beaches -- ara na ang mga themed resorts (ie Anhawan & Nes n Tats (Oton), then the upcoming one in Tigbauan. Well, Guimbal (Racsos & Garin Farm) will also be good sites to visit.

still smaller by large compare sa Savannah and the upcoming Filinvest-Megaworld properties pero kung maayo lang pag-promote nila, it'll even run the money of these two big residential/commercial properties in metrotowns. WAngZY November 4th, 2010, 09:23 AM 171 towns to be flooded if sea level rises - study
By Rudy A. Fernandez (The Philippine Star) Updated November 04, 2010 12:00 AM Comments (1) View comments
LOS BAÑOS, Laguna, Philippines — If much of the world’s ice caps melt, owing to global warming, at least 171 coastal towns in 10 vulnerable provinces in the country will be adversely affected.
A total of 167,290 hectares in these towns will go under water if the sea level rises by one meter, according to an analysis done by the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Climate Change Program.
Cagayan, one of the country’s biggest provinces forming Luzon’s northeastern seaboard whip-lashed at times by the turbulent waters of the Pacific Ocean, will be the most vulnerable if the country’s sea level rises owing to climate change, the study said.
At least 13,134 hectares of seashore lands in 16 Cagayan municipalities will be submerged, it added.
Cagayan is one of the four provinces comprising Cagayan Valley or Region 2; the others are Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino.
Next to Cagayan as most vulnerable is Palawan, with 9,146 hectares in 17 towns to go under water following a one-meter sea level rise.
An elongated mass of land, Palawan rises above the waters of the South China Sea in the west and the Sulu Sea in the east.
Iloilo ranks third with 8,647 hectares in 16 towns likely to be inundated. Iloilo is one of the four provinces that form Panay Island; the others are Aklan, Antique, and Capiz.
Zamboanga Sibugay comes fourth with 8,330 hectares in 15 towns, followed by Camarines Sur, with 8,139 hectares in 27 municipalities to be submerged by the waters of the Pacific Ocean and Lagonoy Gulf.
Completing the list of provinces to be most adversely affected by a one-meter sea level rise are Negros Occidental, 7,870 hectares in 25 towns; Capiz, 7,094 hectares in seven towns; Tawi-Tawi, 5,987 hectares in eight towns; Bohol, 5,985 hectares in 24 towns; and Sulu, 5,728 hectares in 19 towns.
The UPLB report further stated that Cagayan is also the most vulnerable in case the country’s sea level rises by two meters as a consequence of global warming: 22,746 hectares in 19 towns will be submerged.
Camarines Sur, one of the six provinces that compose the Bicol region, comes second with 17,039 hectares in 28 towns to be inundated.
It is followed by Palawan, 13,609 hectares in 19 towns; Negros Occidental, 10,768 hectares in 13 towns; Iloilo, 10,709 hectares in 19 towns; Negros Oriental, 10,368 hectares in 25 towns; Capiz, 9,738 hectares in seven towns; Bohol, 9,509 hectares in 27 towns; Northern Samar, 8,654 hectares in 21 towns; and Zamboanga del Sur, 8,349 hectares in 14 towns.
In case the country’s sea level rises by two meters owing to global warming, 264,447 hectares in 180 towns will be submerged.
The UP Los Baños Climate Change Program stressed that in the face of such an eventuality, a comprehensive land use and development plan is needed for the provinces most vulnerable to sea level rise.

Just check the date when I posted that. I was right with one, the other was false alarm [was referring to C]. :D
OK OK OK... Let me enlighten you with this...
The reason why Transcom opened first in Bacolod because of the location. No locator have offered to Transcom Iloilo.
They had versant because they were overstaffed. And the quality of hires was question because of the ramp requirement.
In bacolod they have voiced and non-voice. No relevance why Iloilo got the voiced account. The population of Transcom Bacolod is way bigger than Iloilo because the client dont want to add seats in iloilo. Again, it was a client decision. I also want to be fair with the Bacolodnons, may mga mayu man ya sa ila... It was not an issue about the people, it was the client... Ako pa ya nga truth lang ah..
BUT..... Transcom Iloilo will be looking for more people... SOON!!! As in this November NAH!!!! And its going to be a new LOB!!! Yipee!

RE: Versant, that is TRUE. It was implemented in all Transcom centers to separate the chaff from the grain. Which the figures in the PM I sent months ago. Majority of the workforce there is for non-voice accounts.

Department to hold seminars on free trade agreements
THE TRADE department kicks off on Friday a series of seminars that seek to teach exporters how to use trade agreements, and market their products in countries that have preferential deals with the Philippines.
The state agency said on Thursday it will be holding the first seminar in Manila on Nov. 5 in a bid to "increase awareness and generate more business in the export market."
Speakers from the Bureau of Customs, the Tariff Commission and the Trade department’s Bureaus of Export Trade Promotion, and International Trade Relations will discuss procedures for getting documents to ensure their products enjoy lower tariffs abroad.
The Philippines has trade agreements with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the regional bloc’s dialog partners China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Korea. It also has a bilateral agreement with Japan.
The event will be staged again until December in various provinces: Laguna (Nov. 8), Clark (Nov. 10), Iloilo (Nov. 12), Cebu (Nov. 29), Zamboanga (Nov. 19), Cagayan de Oro (Nov. 22), General Santos (Nov. 25), Legaspi (Nov. 26), Tagaytay (Nov. 29) and Baguio (Dec. 7).
The event on Friday will be held at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City. -- Jessica Anne D. Hermosa

STARofLIFE November 4th, 2010, 08:43 PM Princess City of the South
By BERNARDO VILLEGAS
November 4, 2010, 4:55pm
MANILA, Philippines – Iloilo and Cebu have competed for decades to be considered the "Queen City of the South." At the moment, especially as far as tourism is concerned, Cebu is the undisputed winner, being now the tourism center of the whole Philippines. There is, however, a leading claimant to the title "Princess City of the South." Even if only because of its name, Puerto Princesa is the Princess of Philippine tourism. From what I saw in a recent trip to this multi-awarded city, over the next ten years, it can challenge Cebu, Iloilo, and other cities in Central Visayas and Western Visayas for the title "Queen City of the South," as far as tourism is concerned. Having the makings of a Philippine version of Bali or a mini-Thailand, Puerto Princesa and the whole island of Palawan can target to receive two to three million tourists annually over the next five to ten years. I am assuming that we will be having "open skies" and expanded airports during this period.
Thanks to its dynamic and at times controversial leader, mayor Ed Hagedorn, Puerto Princesa has received the Earth Award, Maclli-ing Dulag Environmental Achievement Award, Best Governed Local Government Unit Awards, and Gusi Peace Award. Mayor Hagedorn has been at the helm of Puerto Princesa as Mayor for a total of 18 years in separate terms. He has been responsible for the many improvements in local governance, environmental sustainability, road network, and peace and order. As a writer for The Palawan Times wrote (September 30-October 6), "If Ed Hagedorn loves the environment now, it is because he used to ruin it, his family having been among Palawan's largest loggers in the past. And if he hates gambling now, it is because he used to be the city's biggest gambling lord." His answer to an interviewer's question on how gambling was abolished in Puerto Princesa has already become legendary. He quipped in all sincerity: "I told my people to stop."
The tourism jewel of Puerto Princesa is, of course, the Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP), which is one of the most important biodiversity conservation areas of the Philippines. Expanded into an area of 22,202 hectares, the PPSRNP features spectacular limestone formations. It contains an 8.2-km-long underground river that flows directly to the sea. The lower half of the river is brackish and subject to tidal influence. A subterranean river directly flows into the sea and the associated tidal influence makes it one of the most unique natural phenomena of its kind. In recognition of its globally significant natural properties, it was inscribed into the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) List of Natural World Heritage Sites. As the official nominee of the Philippines, the PPSRNP has been selected as one of the 28 official finalists in the global search for the New Seven Wonders of Nature. Through the efforts of Mayor Hagedorn, the protection, management, and development of the PPSRNP was transferred from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to the City Government of Puerto Princesa in 1992. It is the first national park devolved to and successfully managed by a local government unit.
The last time I visited the underground river in the late 1980s, I had to take a helicopter in the company of the late Senator Ramon Mitra and businessman Pepito Alvarez because the roads from Puerto Princesa to the site were in a poor state and it would have taken us more than four hours by car. Today, concrete roads have cut the travel to one hour and a half, enabling 400 visitors a day to enjoy the wonders of the PPSRNP. But beyond the improvements in physical infrastructure, even more impressive is the tourism "software" that makes a visit to the site very enjoyable for both domestic and foreign tourists. The boatmen act as very efficient tour guides, regaling the visitors with important details about every nook and corner of the caves and entertaining them with anecdotes and jokes. They can speak in fluent English and can shift speaking with an American accent or in Chinese-English, Japanese-English, or Korean-English depending on the nationalities of their visitors. One can see how much has been invested in the training and organization of these tourism workers. Some of them are even organized as cooperatives.
The leaders of Puerto Princesa, however, cannot rest on their laurels. There is much more to do. First and foremost, infrastructure, infrastructure and more infrastructure. Using both national and local government funds, hundreds more of kilometers of farm-to-market roads will ensure that economic growth will trickle down to the poorest of the poor. These roads will not only make the farmers more cost effective in delivering their products to the market but will also improve access of tourists to the many more beautiful assets of nature such as beaches, forests, and caves. Tourists still complain that after the underground river, there is not much more to entertain them in Puerto Princesa. There are white sand beaches that belong to private land owners who should tie up with real estate developers like the Ayalas or the Sys so that places like the Anvaya Cove in Bataan or Punta Fuego in Batangas can be developed.
The leaders should also follow the advice of Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim to focus on nature, culture, and history. Puerto Princesa has abundant gifts of nature. There should be more efforts to uncover the cultural and historical heritages of the City and the surrounding areas. Let me just mention one important historical legacy. Many of the Thomasites who introduced English and an efficient public school system to the Philippines early in the twentieth century settled in Palawan. Puerto Princesa and other municipalities in Palawan can market the whole island to American tourists, especially to the descendants of the Thomasites, as making a trip to a glorious past of Phil-American history. There is no question that the public educational system was one of the most valuable gifts of American colonization. This can be stressed in tourism packages addressed to American tourists. In fact, Puerto Princesa can aspire to be one of the main sites for retirement villages for Phil-Americans and other Americans looking for a more cost-effective alternative to Hawaii. Many of these American retirees can help develop English language training centers in Puerto Princesa. These language centers can then serve as a magnet to Asians who can be attracted to come to the Philippines to learn and/or improve their English. These are only some of the possibilities that can be the object of Private-Public Partnerships that can strengthen the aspirations of Puerto Princesa to graduate from the Princess City to the Queen City of the South. Based on this scenario, Iloilo must double its effort in promoting our city and province including Guimaras. The more promotion, the more tourist will come and discover our beloved place. This article must be a wake up call and a challenge to our local government officials to do their part actively. It is time for action, not only reaction. ACTION is the word for today.

Kaltehitze November 5th, 2010, 02:13 AM Happy B-day Rapuy!
Happy birthday pre rapuy!
Of course, why not?!! Me and hubby will be in CB instead of SB..he he! Lasang Pinoy ay kakaiba!! di ba?!! Ang anak kupa pahambalon, "Mama I really hate Lilo because I gained weight when I was there!" She went to Breakthrough, Roberto's, Khrua Thai, SM City Foodcourt, Robinson's Foodcourt, Ted's, Deco's, and Talipapa's Dinuguan..plenty..yanno:lol: the reason why she gained weight!:lol::lol::lol: OT
Haha! ayos ang anak mo madam ah, daw enjoy gid sya di sa aton syudad ba! First time nya sa iloilo sang pag bisita nya madam?
Re: Coffeebreak.
Sakto ka gid da madam! Actually I don't think you will find CB the same as SB in terms of taste, they have different brews. In CB, they have brews like Tiramisu Frap, Amaretto Blend, the very pinoy Choc-Nut, and get this, the Peanut Butter Espresso/Frappuccino.
The above mentioned brews are not found in starbucks so i'm very sure you'll like CB there in Mississippi.
good morning ILoilo
madam instead of tagalog teach them Hiligaynon. tagalog is not our own language.
I respect your views pre, but I would like to disagree with you.
While I am an ilonggo, I think it would be pragmatic if madame jolly would teach her kano students tagalog. This is because all filipinos, whether ifugao, igorot, waraynon, bikolano, cebuano, tausug or maranao all understand and can speak some level of tagalog, since this is the language propagated by Philippine media. Thus, tagalog is spoken by Seaman, Nurses, Maids, Accountants, Engineers, etc, etc, worldwide. I'm pretty sure your students will find it handy if they learn the language and they travel around the world.
Sa eroplano pa lang, ang Flight Attendants, Filipinos na. Sa cruise ships, Filipinos man. Restuarants and hotels, filipinos man. So we can say that Tagalog is a GLOBAL language spoken by many filipinos coming from different regions.
But madame, it will not hurt if your students will learn hiligaynon. The choice is up to you madame. :)
Kaltehitze November 5th, 2010, 02:18 AM ^^Di ba it has been rumored na Palawan will be part of Region 6 due to islands' proximity to Western Visayas? What happened?
Sir, as far as I remember, under the administration of Gloria, nag promulgate sya sang executive order that placed Palawan under region six. However, this was not implemented yet kay nag protesta ang mga taga palawan kay kabudlay kuno mag kadto sa regional center kay waay flights kag once a week lang ang trip from iloilo to puerto princessa.
However, if they remain under region IV-B, their regional center is NCR, mas hapos para sa ila, mas convenient pa.

Why? Most people from Palawan have Ilonggo ancestry.... Heck, and they, especially the ones from the southern portion of the city speak Ilonggo..... Hisaun mga taga-Luzon ah.

Their success for me would mean a new market for iloilo's products and companies. A poor puerto princessa would not be able to sustain ilonggo brands like crave burger, or coffeebreak, or Deco's batchoy or Queen Bank, etc, etc.
However, a wealthy and successful puerto princessa would be able to sustain the above mentioned ilonggo brands. Their city could become the new expansion ground of iloilo's corporations. So, I'll drink to puerto princessa's success!

(Nation does not necessarily mean self government though. On an anthropological point of view, it means a separate ethnic people)

According to the article, they're not a QC. They're a princess city. However, if puerto capitalizes on the tourism boom and use their profits from that boom and invest it in other industries, then there is a potential to be elevated into a QC, according to Villegas. The key word is Potential.

That's true pre.
That's why in the seal of iloilo, the statement "La Muy Leal Y Noble de Cuidad de Iloilo" means the "The Most loyal and noble city of Iloilo" because Iloilo was the last capital city of Spain's empire in the Asia pacific region (region comprising saipan, micronesia, marianas and guam).
Being the most loyal Philippine city of Spain, the Spanish crown decreed the title of QUEEN'S CITY OF THE SOUTH.
This decree is in the archives of the Spanish Records Office, of the Spanish Crown
Please note the apostrophe and S.
During the american colonial era, the pronuncation of the queen's city of the south evolved into queen city of the south. Nadula na ang apostrophe S kay waay difference between the two pronunciations.
The American officials not knowing the origin of the term Queen's City of the
South, tolerated the use of this much abused phrase.

irong206 November 5th, 2010, 08:06 AM City College donation
inspires more benefactors
ILOILO City -- The donation of P25 million by businessman Edgar “Injap” Sia II for the three storey Iloilo City Community College has caught the interest of other benefactors.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the news of Sia’s generosity “has inspired others abroad, particularly a family who is willing to donate 10 brand new laptop computers for the use of the city college.”
“This is a strong indication of public-private partnership,” Mabilog said, adding he will also ask for assistance for other projects from the Ilonggo community in the US during his visit there next week.
The city college will rise on the 869-square meter city government lot previously occupied by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Brgy. San Pedro, Molo district.
Sia, chairman and chief executive officer of Mang Inasal Philippines and Injap Investments, committed to construct 30 to 35 classrooms for the city college.
“Our dream of a city community college is coming into place. We also have a P2-million budget for scholarships and we will implement a ladderized program of courses for poor but deserving students,” Mabilog stressed. (PNA)

Ganzon hails establishment of City College
By Montesa Griño-Caoyonan
Iloilo City Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon, staunch proponent of the city college, said he appreciates the effort of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog of approving his long proposed project.
On Tuesday, Mabilog announced that the P25-million Iloilo City Community College building will soon rise at the site of the old Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources building in San Pedro, Molo district.
Ilonggo businessman Edgar Sia II, owner of Mang Insal Philippines and head of the Injap Foundation Inc., has pledged to fund the building construction.
The city college will offer a ladderized program of courses.
Ganzon said he hopes the city college will open next school year to provide quality education to the less fortunate but deserving Ilonggo students.
The city government has allocated P2 million budget for scholarships.
“I am very thankful that this time, the project will finally materialize,” Ganzon said.
He added: “Our good mayor reassessed the project first and maybe he saw how important the city college is, unlike the others who only criticized and opposed the project without visualization.”

Iloilo councilor to join international leadership forum
Friday, October 29, 2010

vaatzhoy November 5th, 2010, 08:34 AM Amo ini ang mapatay sa public market. I was told by my mother (who had business in this markets) that the terminal (super) market and central market are not doing well and deteriorating na kay wala na gawa may gabakal. Kaluluoy ang mga gagmay nga negosyante dira kay puro na utang kuno ang ila mga kapital kay indi na sila makabawi. Ang iban naga-katinar na mangdaya para lang makabawi.
It is time that the government must uplift the standards of these public market kay maperde na gid sila sang mga dalagko nga mga negosyante.

STARofLIFE November 5th, 2010, 05:18 PM A Vision for Education
By Kathy M. Villalon
Antonio del Rosario talks about UI-PEN
http://www.thenewstoday.info/2010/11/04/a.vision.for.education.jpg
The University of Iloilo.
HE is committed to participate in nation building.
It is for this reason that Antonio del Rosario and his company named PHINMA engage in industries that the country needs at a certain time.
In the 80’s until the early 90’s, PHINMA got involved in glass, steel and oil businesses. One of them was Philippine Oil, the first Filipino-owned company. “Heavy industries were what the nation needed at that time,” del Rosario told The News Today. “However, we got hit by the Asian financial crisis and these businesses suffered,” he added.
http://www.thenewstoday.info/2010/11/04/a.vision.for.education2.jpg
Upgraded computer laboratory.
“It was the time when the nation needed education and housing. We had to allow Filipinos to live a decent life. It was the time that we want to ensure that life can be better for every Filipino,” said PHINMA’S president and chief executive officer.
So, PHINMA deviated from manufacturing and focused on education and housing. “Education is not just an end. It is a means for better opportunities,” he said.
PHINMA’s presence in Iloilo City is felt through the University of Iloilo-PEN which they acquired last year. Del Rosario said that his mission of providing good quality education for low-income sectors will be realized through UI-PEN.
“Just to be clear, we run this as a business and not as a charity. So, while we keep the school a profitable business, we give quality education by being as efficient as we can. We also make it a point that the city’s best teachers are attracted to come to us. We have improved the facilities of the school, we are upgrading the skills and education of the faculty and we offer the best pay,” del Rosario said.
Del Rosario also revealed that amid keeping their costs down, UI-PEN manages to offer a scholarship program. This year, they have 1,500 full and partial scholars.
So, how does UI-PEN keep the costs down yet remain efficient? “We lessen our operational expenses. We only offer courses wherein once the students graduate they are assured of jobs. We only have one president and one chief marketing director for all our schools. This way, we could keep our tuition down,” he said.
The courses that UI-PEN offers are: Basic Education, Political Science, Psychology, Elementary and Secondary Education, Accountancy, Business Administration, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Associate in Computer Office Administration, Nursing, Criminology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Law and Master in Education in Business Administration, Public Administration and Doctor of Philosophy in Education.
The other schools that PHINMA has acquired are Araullo University in Dagupan, University of Pangasinan in Cabanatuan, and Cagayan de Oro College in Cagayan de Oro.
Araullo University is an example of PHINMA’s success in its education system. “Before, its CPA passing rate was 0 percent. After we acquired and ran it efficiently, it enjoys a 94 percent passing rate. We are talking of the same exam takers. Our passing rate has improved through the years and we will reflect this here in Iloilo,” he said.
Keeping costs down as well as tuition fees yet still offer good quality education can be tricky. Del Rosario admits that there is a tension between the desire to improve quality yet lower the costs. “It is a balancing act but we remain focus on the things that we want to achieve,” he said.

The signing was requisite to making HBO a legal entity as a registered non-government organization primarily dedicated “to help people, especially the poor.” The process also formalizes its various assistance projects in the town of Dumangas.
Among HBO’s projects so far was the “Balik Eskwela Assistance” – the giving of school supplies during the last school opening season in cooperation with the JCI Ilang-Ilang Jaycees. About 200 pupils from Barangays Calao and Bolilao, and some 100 day-care center pupils from Barangays Poblacion and Tambobo benefited from the activity.
HBO also turned over a Medical Examination Table to the Botika sa Parokya Clinic recently.
The Hope Builders Organization first started as a group of 10 professionals and businessmen in Dumangas, meeting periodically since May 29, 2010. It has since expanded to accommodate additional members.
Its primary purpose is “to help people, especially the poor in Dumangas, in their pursuit of physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, social and economic well-being, and it shall inculcate in its members the development of their acquaintance in order to foster involvement in community affairs and civic service.”

STARofLIFE November 5th, 2010, 08:59 PM Defensor laments travel advisories
ILOILO Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. said that the issuance of travel advisories by some foreign countries to their citizens travelling to the Philippines is lamentable, considering its impact on the province’s tourism industry.
Defensor said the leakage of the intelligence report on the supposed terror threat in the country does not justify the issuance of travel advisories of these foreign countries.
The four foreign countries reported to have issued travel advisories are the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand and Japan, which send tourists every year to the Philippines.
Other countries that have reissued their travel advisories are the United Kingdom and Australia.
Defensor felt bad about the travel advisories since the province of Iloilo is now on the verge of strengthening its tourism industry with the plan of putting up a regional museum right beside the capitol building and the development of other tourism sites in order to lure more tourists. (PNA)
