Yeah....we saw the aggressiveness ni Mayor Jed. Sa sulod lang sang 3 months naka decide na sya dayon patindugon ang Community College which is dugay na ginaplano ini. Kakuha sya dayun approval dugang budget sa new city hall construction.
Aggressive man sa enforcement sang basic nga mga laye (jaywalking, antilittering) kag nagpahalin sang mga kotong nga traffic enforcers.

Nakapanglugayawan sa iban nga pungsod presenting the projects of Iloilo kag investment opportunities sa Iloilo.

Daw indi gid malayo ang dasig nga developments sang Iloilo. Kabay pa!

I don't want to see too much development also sa siyudad ta, kay we will be sacrificing soon the quality of air sang siyudad... I don't want to see a smoggy Iloilo like what Manila have experienced... Then, we'll encounter much water pollution, scarcity of clean water, too much traffic, degradation of our values, increase of crimes... Then, money plays a vital role in our society... Everybody is working hard because the price of everything is skyrocketing as what other big cities around the world have experienced... And everything is stressful...

I still prefer the laid back but modern Iloilo... A relax life with a charm of true Iloilo...

Yah... Manila is so stressful with lack of good urban planning... Hope cities in Visayas and Mindanao would have distinct urban image that can surpass Manila...

Iloilo infra projects get RDC-6 infracom endorsement

Iloilo (8 November) -- The Regional Development Council Committee on Infrastructure has called on the Department of Public Works to prepare proposals/feasibility study for Suspension Bridge connecting Zamora-Muelle Loney Street in Iloilo City Proper to Loboc in Lapuz, Technical assistance for a Drainage System Master Plan for Iloilo City, and an Integrated Transport Master Plan for Iloilo City.

The committee made the call during its regular meeting presided by its newly elected chairperson Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

In a press release, NEDA-6 said the committee also passed a resolution re-endorsing to the RDC-6 the construction of the Iloilo City Circumferential Road.

This infrastructure, earlier endorsed under the Metro Iloilo Road Network Development Master Plan, is a 14-kilometer road forming an arc from its starting point in Arevalo district, passing through the four barangays of oton and two barangays of Pavia.

The circumferential road also runs along the south bank of the jaro floodway, connecting to the Iloilo coastal Road.

Meanwhile, the committee also endorsed the two proposed flyover projects in Bacolod City, under the French Government Assisted Mega bridges for urban and Rural development Project. (NEDA/PIA6/ESS)

Mayor bats for water systems, shallow wells in relocation sites

ILOILO CITY, Nov. 9 (PNA) – Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is currently is seeking support from Ilonggo community based in the United States to donate for a shallow well project in various relocation sites.

Earlier, the city government here admitted that various relocation sites intended for displaced indigents lack water sources.

Mabilog said most household does not have easy access to water which is essential for daily use.

The mayor admitted that the water pipes from the city’s only water service provider, the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD), has not reach most relocation sites.

He said connections are also limited since some relocation sites are far from the nearest pipeline.

Iloilo City has more than three relocation sites where displaced families are being accommodated. These are families affected by major projects such as the Iloilo Flood Control and those living in danger zones like creeks.

These relocation sites also includes those in Barangays Sooc in Arevalo district, San Isidro in Lapaz and Balantang in Jaro district.

Mabilog said he hoped to generate support from Ilonggos abroad for the noble project.

Each shallow well project cost around US $ 565 only, said the mayor.

Mayor Mabilog is on official travel to the US this week. He is set to meet Ilonggo communities in the states of Chicago and Maryland and lobby for support to various city projects. (PNA)

I'm so happy with our city kay damu plaza... Hope ma maintain ini sang maayo para may mapahuway huwayan ang mga kasimanwa ta nga manami nga lugar... Since maghandum man lang libre, I want Iloilo to pattern after Tokyo rather than any other cities in the world... Very well comprehensive ang transportation system kag very well planned ang city... NFA buys 80,000 bags
of ‘palay’ from farmers

ILOILO – The National Food Authority (NFA) has procured a total of 80,000 bags of palay from the farmers of Iloilo and Guimaras, according to Iloilo Manager Hedy Jardeleza.

Jardeleza, who is also in charge of Guimaras, said the NFA procurement program started in September after receiving the P43-million budget from its central office for the purpose.

The P43 million was also added with P70 million last month, thus, totaling their procurement budget to P113 million.

Jardeleza said that of the total budget, some P50 million has remained in tact for the procurement program.

The NFA procurement program hopes to ensure enough rice supply for the people as well as prevent farmers from being victimized by unscrupulous traders.

Procurement price of the NFA is P17 per kilo for the clean and dried palay, plus 20 centavos incentives for trucking, 20 centavos for drying and 30 centavos for the cooperative. (PNA)

Di lang ako sigurado kung talagang milya milya, kasi if you say Cebu, you'rwe not just looking at the city per se but to the surrounding areas as well like Mandaue and Lapulapu. Compared to iloilo, these are industrial areas, which in terms of development is much faster than an agricultural place. Where in the world have you found an agricultural country which has become a developed one? So while Iloilo supports the staple needs of the Filipino people, other areas have to find means to develop their own sources of income. Can you try to compare the agricultural yield of Iloilo and Cebu? Saan ang much richer ang soil? So if you were the government, would you allow the agricultural region to become industrialized when it supports the food of the nation? And which area would you consider for industrial development? We can go back to history how Panay got its name. Bakit panay ang tawag sa isla na ito? Because it is the "Land of Plenty"

Iloilo is only one city - hope soon with other neighboring towns, it will be more progessive, whereas Cebu, when you say Cebu, you already include other industrialized surrounding areas of Mandaue and Lapulapu. At hindi lang medium scale industries ang andito kundi full scale heavy industries.

Go to Iloilo, just within Metro iloilo sa ngayon, paglampas mo ng Balantang sa Jaro, ano makikita mo? Rice plantation. Go to the southern part, paglampas mo sa bridge paglampas ng Villa, ano makkiita mo? Rice plantation. Buti na nga siguro ngayon, pero dati sa may likod ng Lapaz Elementary School riceland pa yan dyan noon. I have played in that area when I was still a pupil in that school.

Go to Cebu, can you pinpoint which part of Metro Cebu has the rice plantation? Ganun kasi yon dahil rich ang soil ng iloilo. So bakit i-convert yan sa heavy industries kung meron syang best soil for rice? eh, natural doon ka na lang sa poor soiled areas magrecommend ng heavy industries.

Another factor of course is politics. The corrupt minds of the previous politicians who occupied seats in the city council.

So I think, Iloilo City, that is Iloilo City alone is catching up with Cebu, if what you think there is that milya milya distance between the two cities. But I don't it is. . . . and with other members of Metro Iloilo, with synchronized ideologies, things will move towards a more progressive direction.

ang layo na ng analogy mo tsong! cebu may not have the bounty of rice produce compared to iloilo but they have corn, coco and suparcane as their products. rice plantation lang ang basehan mo pala?

ganun kagaling ang leaders ng cebu, salat man sila sa bigas, what they did was, they focused in industrial developments, tourism industry and other industries like furniture and food processing para umasenso sila...yan ang wala sa iloilo... kung meron man, malayo pa ang tatahakin kumpara sa cebu...:)

lahat ng gusto mo nasa cebu...punta ka rin ng cebu kase i've been there many times and i enjoyed all my trips...island hopping ka...punta ka bantayan, argao, tuburan, bogo, carcar..ganda dun...stay and relax sa 5-star accommodations ng mactan....sooo relaxing!

you can compare cebu city and iloilo city or metro cebu versus metro iloilo, at nanaginip kalang if di mo maamin na milya-milya na ang layo ng cebu sa iloilo.

still in denial? gumising ka. panu kayo makakahabol sa cebu if until now di niyo pa rin matanggap...:)

Originally it was MANILA and ILOILO! Based in the history!
A source from Dictionary of American Geography ~

ILOILO. The capital of the province of Iloilo in the Island of Panay, Philippines. It is located on an excellent harbor, and, next to Manila, it is one of the chief commercial centers of the Philippine Islands. among the local industries are the manufacture of pina, (pineapple fiber), hats, machinery, and vehicles. The chief export is sugar; other exports include tobacco, rice, copra, coconut, oil, and manila hemp. Since the establishment of American control of the Philippines, the growth of the city has been rapid. :):cheers::cheers:

part of history, part of the past...the BIG question is, san na ngayon ang iloilo compared to the PRESENT queen city of the south???

Hello Welcome to Iloilo...:)

Cebu is really progressive and kudos to all the Cebuanos...I love Cebu...But to say "milya milya ang agwat" hmmmm i think hindi naman, maybe if we'll compare Singapore and Iloilo, milya milya talaga ang agwat...

Anyway, Iloilo City used to be the Queen's/Queen City of the south, but because of politics and the fall of sugar industry here in Western Visayas, the progress became slow na...

The progress of one city does not only depend on the government projects that are poured in... Government Projects=Progress? not necessarily, we have to consider Politics and the kind of economic activity in the area...:)

agree ako dyan! kaya nga ang sabi ko sa anong post ko, ano na ginagawa ng mga pulitiko dyan? kase based sa nalalaman ko (magpapaturo pa sana ako kay zynet kase madami syang alam :bash::bash::bash:) at sa paniniwala ko, the leaders of iloilo were not visionaries during their time kaya iloilo wasn't able to sustain yung dating tinatamasa nitong kaunlaran...nakakabawi naman at sana tuloy-tuloy na...the more progressive cities in our country, the better! :)

The development of Cebu is just 1/100 compared to some cities here in China... Like Tianjin... Tianjin development is just in a matter of five years... It gained solid ground in economic development by its hardworking leaders... With the vision of Mayor Jed, I'm sure Iloilo will push through beyond its limit...

Sa konting development sa mga city dyan sa Pinas, kaagad agad na sabihing milya, milya ang agwat sa isa't isa... Try nyong pumunta sa China, then you will realize how fast the development here... Siguro makapagsasabi ka na bilyong milya ang agwat ng mga cities dito compare sa mga malaking cities sa atin...
china is china tsong! di naman yan iloilo. you know the bargaining power of china...ive been there...also HK, singapura, taiwan and malaysia...at nalibot ko na ang europe...well, i live in amsterdam kaya i have my schengen staten...pati USA napuntahan ko na..kaw, san ka na ba nakagala? treat mo ako pag makapag-side trip ako sa china...:)

From what I noticed kon mag sakay ako sa jeep kon kis-a damo ako kasakay Cebuano. Sano-to gin pamangkot ko sila kon ngaa ari di sila sa Iloilo since I also know how to speak Cebuano. Hambal nila diri sila kuno ga ubra kay damo di kuno subong ga pang hire kag mas barato kuno ang mga balaklon kaysa sa Cebu.

mas madami pa ring ilonggo ang nagtatrabaho sa cebu...punta ka dun and you will know what i mean....di lang sa MEPZ of mactan or sa metropolitan cebu, even sa night clubs dun...LOL...thanks sa gf ko for the translation...btw, her granny (motherside) is from iloilo kaya nakabisita ako dyan nung 2008 and there i witnessed the devastation of ondoy...sana di na maulit...kaya i question yung will and sincerety ng mga leaders niyo is because sayang ang iloilo pag pinabayaan!

gandang gabi sa lahat!!! :)

Tikalon... But the point is huwag kang gumamit ng milya milya sa comparison mo... Learn the language sa pag compare...

At saan ba nagsimula ang China... It is a poor country before... But they rise to superpower... China is China but there are many things that Chinese have similarity sa mga Pinoy... We know how huge the purchasing power of China but somehow we want to pattern our development to some of the cities here... Wala namang mali dyan di ba... Be awaken, our country is a third world... Kahit ano pang sabihin mo na malaki na ang kinaunlad ng Cebu but still sa Pilipinas pa rin yan... Sa isip ng mga foreigner, Cebu is still an agricultural city with less development...

There's no use to compare city from city here... Let all the cities in our country work hand in hand to boost the whole economy of the Philippines.... Sa isang mali lang ng isang lugar sa Pinas kahit maliit man o malaki, it can affect the whole country...

@besotted

- Pati-pati man kamo sa panulay nga ni...BUKING KA NA TSONG!...stop making up stories...ONDOY? it devastated METRO MANILA SEPTEMBER 2009!.

- FRANK IS THE ONE THAT DEVASTATED ILOILO IN 2008. SO STOP MAKING-UP STORIES STUPID!...buking ka na

- Reveal your true self...who ever you are...YOU ARE NOT FROM MANILA. People from manila do not have this OA reactions about ILOILO..or even comparing it to other cities like CEBU, the hell they care with CEBU?. That is their mentality. walang paki-alam.

- If you had been to other countries, parang hindi yata halata, parang dun kalang nang galing sa bukid ng payatas.

- We are not hypocrite we all know that CEBU is much progressive than ILOILO, and we are not in denial about that. Kung milya milya ang agwat ng CEBU sa ILOILO, sa iyo na yun!...hala! baunin mo yan hanggang sa hukay mo!...the hell that we care.....

My last words sa kayabangan ng isang dukha...

we can create a film entitled "the rise of china and the fall of iloilo"...what do you think? :)

ang layo na ng analogy mo tsong! cebu may not have the bounty of rice produce compared to iloilo but they have corn, coco and suparcane as their products. rice plantation lang ang basehan mo pala?

ganun kagaling ang leaders ng cebu, salat man sila sa bigas, what they did was, they focused in industrial developments, tourism industry and other industries like furniture and food processing para umasenso sila...yan ang wala sa iloilo... kung meron man, malayo pa ang tatahakin kumpara sa cebu...:)

lahat ng gusto mo nasa cebu...punta ka rin ng cebu kase i've been there many times and i enjoyed all my trips...island hopping ka...punta ka bantayan, argao, tuburan, bogo, carcar..ganda dun...stay and relax sa 5-star accommodations ng mactan....sooo relaxing!

you can compare cebu city and iloilo city or metro cebu versus metro iloilo, at nanaginip kalang if di mo maamin na milya-milya na ang layo ng cebu sa iloilo.

still in denial? gumising ka. panu kayo makakahabol sa cebu if until now di niyo pa rin matanggap...:)

TSONG. . . GO ka talaga sa opinion mo. Panalo ka talaga!!! Pero kulang ang kaalaman mo! Nobody wins here. . . So let's stop here.

JUST BE CAREFUL WITH THE GUY, MALABUGAY ANG THREAD!!! HE HE HE. . .

part of history, part of the past...the BIG question is, san na ngayon ang iloilo compared to the PRESENT queen city of the south???

so you have done your research pala? galing pala ng school mo na AMA at madaming kang alam...galing!

agree ako dyan! kaya nga ang sabi ko sa anong post ko, ano na ginagawa ng mga pulitiko dyan? kase based sa nalalaman ko (magpapaturo pa sana ako kay zynet kase madami syang alam :bash::bash::bash:) at sa paniniwala ko, the leaders of iloilo were not visionaries during their time kaya iloilo wasn't able to sustain yung dating tinatamasa nitong kaunlaran...nakakabawi naman at sana tuloy-tuloy na...the more progressive cities in our country, the better! :)

china is china tsong! di naman yan iloilo. you know the bargaining power of china...ive been there...also HK, singapura, taiwan and malaysia...at nalibot ko na ang europe...well, i live in amsterdam kaya i have my schengen staten...pati USA napuntahan ko na..kaw, san ka na ba nakagala? treat mo ako pag makapag-side trip ako sa china...:)

mas madami pa ring ilonggo ang nagtatrabaho sa cebu...punta ka dun and you will know what i mean....di lang sa MEPZ of mactan or sa metropolitan cebu, even sa night clubs dun...LOL...thanks sa gf ko for the translation...btw, her granny (motherside) is from iloilo kaya nakabisita ako dyan nung 2008 and there i witnessed the devastation of ondoy...sana di na maulit...kaya i question yung will and sincerety ng mga leaders niyo is because sayang ang iloilo pag pinabayaan!

gandang gabi sa lahat!!! :)

stop using cebu. we are not comparing our city with other cities here. we love iloilo just the way she is. we don't want to compare ourselves with others because there will always be better places and persons than us. we are contented with what we have. we are happy.

obviously you are not. you like to compare yourself with others. well, go ahead. just don't do it here. you are obviously a globetrotter. we are just simple people. you are out of our league.

mahangin ka pa sa habagat. :hahaha:

Maayong gab-i mga kasimana, ari na ang press release sa international award nga nadag-an sang Iloilo City! Congratulations kag Padayon Iloilo!!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Iloilo City river project bags international gold award

ILOILO CITY, Nov 9 (PNA)-– The Iloilo River Development Project bagged the gold award in this year's International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom) held November 8 at the Hilton Hotel in Chicago, USA.

City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog texted this good news as he's in the US for the award.

His presentation of the project impressed the international panel of judges composed of environmental and landscape management professionals.

The project is Iloilo City’s entry under the Environmentally Sustainable Project Awards, category E for communities with a population of over 400,000 people.

Other finalists in the same category are Al Ain, UAE; Changwon City, South Korea; Changzhou City, China; Curitiba, Brazil; Medellin City, Colombia; Portland Metropolitan Region, USA and Wuxing, China.

Aside from Escoto, the city’s delegation also included councilor Edward Yee, city legal officer Jose Junio Jacela, as well as business executives Felix Tiu and Antonio Lim.

Renan Escoto is the city’s environmental management specialist who's part of the team that prepared the presentation on Iloilo River Development Project.

He said this project exemplifies successful public-private partnership on protecting and preserving the river.

“We (in the government) cannot do it alone but the private sector is very active in this undertaking,” he said.

Escoto noted various stakeholders are involved in the regular river clean up to help the existing 'Bantay-Suba’ team.

There's continuing mangrove reforestation in the area and illegal fishpens in the vicinity have been dismantled already.

“We are also trying our best to remove illegal settlers,” Escoto said.

Iloilo River is unique because it hosts various endangered species, he noted.

These species include rare shrimps which University of the Philippines biological sciences students discovered.

Some 20 mangrove species also thrive in the area.

Aside from international recognition for the Iloilo River Development Project, the city also submitted three entries for the Bursary Award.

Such entries are Wastepickers Livelihood Training Program, Community-based Water and Sanitation System and Community-based Disaster Preparedness Planning.

LivCom was launched in 1997 and is reputedly the world’s sole awards competition focusing on best practices for managing the local environment.

United Nations Environment Programme is reportedly endorsing LivCom.(PNA)

DPWH urged to study suspension bridge

ILOILO City – The Regional Development Council (RDC) Committee on Infrastructure has called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to prepare a feasibility study for the proposed suspension bridge that will connect Zamora-Muelle Loney Street in Iloilo City Proper to Brgy. Loboc in Lapuz.

The agency was also asked for technical assistance for a Drainage System Master Plan for Iloilo City, and an Integrated Transport Master Plan for Iloilo City.

The committee also passed a resolution re-endorsing to the RDC the construction of the Iloilo City Circumferential Road.

This infrastructure, earlier endorsed under the Metro Iloilo Road Network Development Master Plan, is a 14-kilometer road forming an arc from its starting point in Arevalo district, passing through the four barangays of Oton town and two barangays of Pavia town.

The circumferential road also runs along the south bank of the Jaro floodway, connecting to the Iloilo Coastal Road.

Meanwhile, the committee also endorsed the two proposed flyover projects in Bacolod City, under the French Government-Assisted Mega Bridges for Urban and Rural Development Project. (ESS/PIA/PN)

TIDBITS

1) WE are happy that FELIX GURREA, one of the most successful contractors and businessmen, is building a new hotel in Iloilo City. The place is near the new Ateneo-Iloilo complex.
The hotel will be 5-star in category. Felix is adding another layer of economic growth in Iloilo City. Kudos!
2) MARS FLORETE is expanding his hotel business. He has bought three hotels in Boracay — in addition to what he already has in Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Baguio and Manila.
Mars is also involved in restaurant business. He owns the popular Dulcinea in Metro Manila – aside from his lucrative financing, jewelry and real estate businesses. The man has Midas touch.
Mars is a good man. And we are happy for him.
3) MS. AMARYLIS JOSEPHINE CASTRO, finance manager of MIWD, belongs to a rich and prestigious family in Bohol. Honest and very qualified for her job, and contrary to what her detractors said, the beautiful lady is not corrupt.
4) RETIRED Judge SERGIO “Butz” MABUNAY is like a cat with nine lives. Despite his many bouts against physical ailments, he remains strong, alive and kicking.
It is his strong will to live and enjoy life that makes things easy for him.

After US, Gerry’s Grill on to S’pore
BY IRMA ISIP
Filipino food chain Gerry’s Grill resumes its international and local expansion after slowing down due to the financial crisis.

Gerardo B. Apolinario, president and chief executive officer of Prime Pacific Grill Corp., said Gerry’s Grill will open its first site in Asia in Singapore next month as part of plans to reach more markets.

Locally, Gerry’s Grill eyes the opening of eight stores in 2011, each costing P12 million to P15 million, for a total of P96 million to P120 million in investment.

Apolinario said Gerry’s Grill is looking at opening three more stores in California beginning 2011 in addition to its existing ones in Union City in San Francisco and Cerritos in Los Angeles.

After holding back on plans to go to Canada, Gerry’s Grill now eyes two branches there, preferably in Toronto and Richmond or Vancouver.

Apolinario also sees prospects in Australia and even in China.

"We had to slow down a bit during the crisis especially in the US. But now things are getting better and we are feeling the improvement. We are going to make up for it in 2011," Apolinario said.

This early, Apolinario is hoping to have more than one store in Singapore.

Gerry’s Grill Singapore will open at the upscale Marina Bay Sands Hotel on December 1 after it was picked to be one of 26 food chains from around the globe to operate at the swanky hotel/resort.

Marina Bay Sands has over 2500 rooms and suites, state-of-the-art convention and exhibition facilities, theaters, world-class casino, and entertainment. It also boasts of the best shopping and dining in the Asian region.

The store will cater not only to Filipinos but also to an international clientele, serving bestsellers that include crispy pata, sisig and pusit.

A meal costs around $8 to $16, significantly higher than what Gerry’s Grill charges locally.

In the US, Gerry’s Grill has a clientele of 75 to 80 percent Filipino-Americans and 20 to 25 percent other nationalities.

For the local expansion, Gerry’s Grill is opening its 43rd branch at Station 1 Mitos Place near Astoria in Boracay next week. In 2011, Gerry’s Grill has lined up the opening of four branches: in Baguio, Nuvali in Sta. Rosa in Laguna, Iloilo and Davao in May. Four more locations are in the works.

After US, Gerry’s Grill on to S’pore
BY IRMA ISIP
Filipino food chain Gerry’s Grill resumes its international and local expansion after slowing down due to the financial crisis....

^^good news, i like their chicharon bulaklak and sinigang.

ALI net income surges 35% to record P1.42 billion in third quarter
By Zinnia B. Dela Peña (The Philippine Star) Updated November 10, 2010 12:00 AM Comments (0) View comments

MANILA, Philippines - Property giant Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) said yesterday its net earnings rose 35 percent in the third quarter this year to an all time high of P1.42 billion, marking its sixth consecutive quarter of positive growth.

In the nine months ending September this year, ALI’s net income rose to a record P3.94 billion, also an increase of 35 percent from the same period a year earlier on robust growth across all its major business lines.

Consolidated revenues reached P27.87 billion for the nine-month period, 24 percent higher year-on-year. Real estate and hotel revenues grew 25 percent to P26.22 billion. Earnings per share, on the other hand, improved to 30 centavos as against 22 centavos a year ago.

Consolidated net operating income amounted to P7.96 billion, up 26 percent from the previous level with overall NOI margins maintained at 30 percent despite of a drop in shopping center margins due to the ongoing redevelopment of Ayala Center in Makati.

“It was another good quarter and we experienced strong growth across all our major business lines. Together with strict cost discipline, this allowed us to achieve record earnings and we hope to sustain this moving forward. We are also well on track towards achieving our operating goals for the year as well as our long term goal of significantly improving profitability and capital returns over the next few years,” said Jaime Ysmael, senior vice-president and chief finance officer of ALI.

Revenues from the residential business went up 18 percent to P12.47 billion with strong growth in bookings across all residential brands. Ayala Land Premier (ALP), which caters to the high-end segment of the market, registered a 20 percent year-on-year growth in revenues mainly on strong sales of Park Terraces (Makati) and Serendra West Tower (Bonifacio Global City) condominium units as well as Santierra lots in Nuvali in Laguna.

Middle income brands Alveo and Avida also posted year-on-year revenue growth of 23 percent and 12 percent, respectively, with higher bookings from the success of new launches such as Meranti in Bonifacio Global City and Venare (Nuvali) for Alveo, and Avida Towers Cebu and Alabang for Avida.

Together with its affordable housing unit Amaia, ALI’s four residential brands launched a total of 8,396 units in the first nine months, nearly double the group’s average full year launches for the past five years. ALI generated residential sales take-up value of P26.7 billion for the period under review, averaging nearly P3 billion of sales take-up every month.

Meanwhile, total revenues for shopping centers improved six percent to P3.52 billion, driven by the seven percent expansion in occupied gross leasable area (GLA) as the addition of MarQuee Mall in Pampanga and improved occupancy rate at Greenbelt 5 more than offset the closure of Glorietta 1.

ALI has broken ground on nine new shopping centers so far this year, which will boost total GLA of the Ayala Malls Group portfolio to 137,000 square meters. These projects include three regional malls (Harbor Point in Subic and the redevelopment of Glorietta in Makati and the Alabang Town Center), two community centers (Solenad 2 in Nuvali and the East Block in Bonifacio Global City), and four neighborhood centers (Ayala Triangle in Makati, Baguio BPO retail, Iloilo BPO retail, and eBloc 2 retail in Cebu)

I observed that there is a canopy at the southside of the ATH building which is condusive for dining strip.

3. BPO- will of course be the one top 3 floors of the Technohub.

But I'm wishing for the best na tani, lain pagid ang retail kag ang residential.

it should have been done a long time ago. i am 100% behind this scheme. as a lurker here for quite some time already, i have read @habagat advocating for el 98 as a one way street. but his proposal was el 98 and jalandoni. it was @samwisegamgee who advocated for el 98 and fajardo.

yes the photo is telling but the caption says it all. it was not intended to undermine them but to commend their determination to live amidst the "perceived abundance" around them.

what i really don't like about those pretentious people is their penchant to compare their city and their people with ours. it seems like they cannot feel good about themselves without comparing themselves to us. they tend to always "pabati-bati" na kesyo our city is dirty, our city has dilapidated buildings all around, our city is not developed, etc. i mean, if these lies are always repeated people who haven't been to our city would think that they are true. anyone who have been to both cities could attest that those statements are not true.

that is what i don't like about these pretentious people. :bash::bash::bash:

yeinjee
November 10th, 2010, 05:30 PM
and those pretentious people even implied that those beggars were former sacadas from our side who migrated to their city to seek jobs. what are they trying to say, that the beggars on their streets came from our place and that the people in their place are all buena familia? :ohno:

how is that even possible? these people are living in fantasy. :hahaha:

I don't exactly know who you guys are talking about but if my guess is right, then these people aren't worth any of our time. They are very smart, I have to give it to them. They know exactly how to manipulate and turn things around. When no one gives them any attention, they talk or drop hints about thrashing our city but when someone confronts them about it, they all gang up on you with baseless and useless comments and attacks that do not even make sense. Then they say that Ilonggos should wake up and look at the facts that Iloilo is left behind. But when you ask them for facts, they show you an international coffeeshop , an upscale subdivisdion, a call center and wide roads. and when they're outsmarted, they attack your gender which to me is a very desperate move and usually the last resort. I'm just saying...

seriously speaking, time will be wasted on their thread.

anyway, enough OT.
Yep. Starbucks is scheduled to open in Feb.

Starbucks is hiring for baristas at SPUI. Anyone interested can visit the HRM office.

Anyways, I had a chance to exchange emails with a source from Rustan Coffee and yes, the branch will be opening in February. She has more good news too!

I can't spill it yet cause its a bit confidential but looks like all the old rumors about the number of stores that were supposed to be opened here had some truth in it.

baw confidential gle... ah te, wala na problema ah. ara man ang PM. te, wasliki na kami kiddo.

yes the photo is telling but the caption says it all. it was not intended to undermine them but to commend their determination to live amidst the "perceived abundance" around them.

what i really don't like about those pretentious people is their penchant to compare their city and their people with ours. it seems like they cannot feel good about themselves without comparing themselves to us. they tend to always "pabati-bati" na kesyo our city is dirty, our city has dilapidated buildings all around, our city is not developed, etc. i mean, if these lies are always repeated people who haven't been to our city would think that they are true. anyone who have been to both cities could attest that those statements are not true.

that is what i don't like about these pretentious people. :bash::bash::bash:

and those pretentious people even implied that those beggars were former sacadas from our side who migrated to their city to seek jobs. what are they trying to say, that the beggars on their streets came from our place and that the people in their place are all buena familia? :ohno:

how is that even possible? these people are living in fantasy. :hahaha:

hehehe. relax ka lang miga. our beloved city and province doesn't need to prove anything. we've been there. history tells everything... hehehe.

City braces for 3 nat’l confabs

By Lucy Montealto-Sinay

PREPARATIONS are underway for the conduct of three big conventions in the city this month and first quarter of next year.

This city will play host to the 65th Annual National Convention of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) on Nov. 23 to 26, the 1st Visayas Blogging Summit 2010 on November 27 to 28, and the national conference of the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM) on February 17 to 20, 2011.

City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) chief Benito Jimena said his office is looking into the guidelines concerning tourist buses entering the city to ensure the smooth transport requirements of the delegates.

He advised travel agents to coordinate with CTDO as to permits so they can facilitate it directly from the local chief executive for convenience.

“We actually would like to strengthen the guidelines, endorse it to the city council later on in order that the traffic regulation concerning tourist buses entering the city will be properly institutionalized,” Jimena said.

The PICPA convention will bring in CPAs from all over the country, while the blogging summit will gather all bloggers from Visayas region, together with their colleagues from Luzon, Metro Manila and Mindanao.

The PARM conference, meanwhile, will draw together physiatrists in the country. A physiatrist is a doctor who finished residency training in rehabilitation medicine or physical medicine and rehab.

Jimena is upbeat about the forthcoming events because “they will mean more visitors for the city.”

“They will spend money here which will result to more sales for our local businessmen,” he added.

Jimena expressed that the city’s record in hosting meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibits is improving.

He said statistics would show that more visitors are coming here resulting to an increase in tourist arrivals.

“By word of mouth, these visitors can really help promote our city,” Jimena said. (Iloilo City PIO)

Indian call center to hire 500 workers

Indian call center firm Hinduja Global Solutions will start hiring an initial 500 employees in November for the opening of its 2005-square meter facility in Ayala Techno Hub in Riverside Boardwalk, Mandurriao, Iloilo City January next year.

Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog was elated of the announcement of no less than Hinduja Philippines president Pushkar Misra who visited his office yesterday to discuss the company’s investment plans in the city.

Hinduja’s entry to the metropolis is in time with the opening of Ayala IT Park by December and the operation of new coal-fired power plant by Global Business Power Corp. in Brgy. Ingore, La Paz district soon.

Mabilog said the call center expansion will provide great employment opportunities for the Ilonggos and will prop up more economic activities locally.

Misra said they will be hiring workers especially Ilonggos who live in proximity with the company’s office.

Hinduja decided to settle here as a “prominent next wave city” ideal for call center locators, he said.

“We have a seen big pool of available qualified manpower with the presence of many educational institutions in the city. We are happy to do business and grow faster here. We are happy to know that a new coal plant will be online soon,” Misra stressed.

The Hinduja Global Solutions has employed 14,500 as of 2009. It started operating in 2000 in India and expanding in Manila in 2003. It now has 23 delivery centers across the Philippines, India, US, Canada, and Mauritius.

It has acquired businesses of major international clients with some leaders in insurance and telecom industries. (Iloilo City PIO)

Iloilo harvest time continues; rice production now 34,344 MT
Posted on: Wed, 10 Nov 2010 02:25:53 EST

ILOILO CITY, Nov 03, 2010 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Harvest time for the first cropping for the province of Iloilo continues with the total reported rice production as of October 31 at 34,344.34 metric tons.

Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Officer Dr. Ildefonso Toledo said that the production has been cumulated from the reports of only 8 municipalities which met the deadline for their submission yesterday. These municipalities are then New Lucena, San Rafael, Duenas, Banate, Sta. Barbara, Batad, Bingawan, and Estancia.

The total rice production also was harvested from the 10,043.35 hectares of rice fields in the 8 municipalities that obtained an average yield of 3.42 metric tons per hectare or 85.5 cavans per hectare.

As compared to the 3.7 metric tons average yield per hectare or 88.1 cavans per hectare last September though, the production in October saw a small deviation.

Dr. Toledo said that even with the given deadline yesterday, they are expecting other municipalities to still submit their reports soon. The province of Iloilo to note has 42 municipalities and one component city. (PNA)

^^
This is just so GOOD GREAT! I am looking forward for these projects to be approved!
primarily the technical assistance for a Drainage System Master Plan for Iloilo City, and an Integrated Transport Master Plan for Iloilo City.

Of course suspension bridge that will connect Zamora-Muelle Loney Street in Iloilo City Proper to Brgy. Loboc in Lapuz is equally important too, I can see how this will affect positively the proposal of Mayor JPM about 'one way routes' in Iznart and the rest of city proper. This is actually vital as I see it will reroute those big trucks etc and the 'Aduana road' can be utilized. Plus with one way scheme, our roads will be decongested and it will make our city a walkable city. Add to that Tree line Sidewalks for a makeover, I suggest palm trees of exotic variety. :okay:

^^
Well this is GOOD news! More likely they will locate to PdI or ATH! :okay:

Ayala Iloilo retail component in the pipeline...

^^
Thanks for posting and dropping by Iloilo Thread.
Hopefully, IMO the 'retail' component is the one rumored in Kapideco Area and different from the 'supposed retail' component of ATH. As mentioned several threads ago that Ayala negotiated with Kapideco to lease majority if not the whole area of Kapideco. :)

it should have been done a long time ago. i am 100% behind this scheme. as a lurker here for quite some time already, i have read @habagat advocating for el 98 as a one way street. but his proposal was el 98 and jalandoni. it was @samwisegamgee who advocated for el 98 and fajardo.

^^
Spot on! Finally we will see how these visions of our 'veteran' forumers here, will transform or improve traffic in this part of the city and how it will play out in the larger scale of things esp the city wide traffic.

^^
Kiddo, if you can't spill it here, go ahead shoot me a PM. I will be waiting. TIA! ;)

22 sites eyed for ocean energy

By Amy R. Remo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 21:06:00 11/10/2010

Filed Under: Energy & Resources, Alternative energy, Government, Investments, Philippines - Regions

MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Energy has identified 22 prospective sites that can be developed by interested investors to produce the much needed additional power capacity using ocean energy resources.

The DOE said it was promoting Philippine ocean resources, which could generate as much as 170,000 megawatts, following the commercialization of ocean energy in other countries. Tapping the ocean as an energy resource involves emerging technologies that use the power of temperature difference, waves and tides to create energy.

These specified areas, the government agency added, hold ocean thermal and tidal energy potential.

Documents from the DOE identified 14 ocean thermal energy potential sites: San Vicente, Ilocos Sur; Agno, Pangasinan; Palauig, Zambales; Mananao, Mindoro; San Jose, Antique; Manukan, Misamis Occidental; Omosmarata, Basilan; Palaui Island, Cagayan; Dijohan Pt., Bulacan; Mascasco, Masbate; Batag Island, Northern Samar; San Francisco, Surigao del Norte; Lamon Pt., Surigao del Sur, and Lacaron, Davao del Sur.

The DOE has also identified eight potential ocean tidal energy sites, which included the Hinatuan Passage, Bohol/Taliban Strait, Surigao Strait, Gaboc Strait, Basiao Channel, San Bernardino Strait, Basilan Strait and San Juanico Strait.

“Further, a study undertaken by the Oceanographic Co. of Norway showed that ocean wave energy has an enormous potential capacity on Batanes Islands, Cagayan, Polilio Islands in Aurora and Bolinao in Pangasinan,” the DOE added.

However, the development of ocean energy is capital extensive as references have indicated that a 100-MW project would require a $250-million investment.

Assistant Energy Secretary Mario Marasigan said the Philippines was even “lucky to have two proponents in ocean/marine energy... [which] are energy projects involving emerging technologies.”

US firm Deep Ocean Power Philippines Inc. is currently conducting studies in at least 36 sites covering 21,000 hectares in Ilocos, Pangasinan, Zambales, Mindoro, Isabela, Panay, Negros, Samar, Leyte and some parts of Mindanao, for possible ocean power sources. However, its efforts were expected to be focused primarily on Occidental Mindoro and Antique, the DOE said.

Earlier this year, Bell Pirie Power Corp. was also awarded a renewable energy service contract for a planned 5-MW Cabagan ocean energy project in Zambales.

yes the photo is telling but the caption says it all. it was not intended to undermine them but to commend their determination to live amidst the "perceived abundance" around them.

what i really don't like about those pretentious people is their penchant to compare their city and their people with ours. it seems like they cannot feel good about themselves without comparing themselves to us. they tend to always "pabati-bati" na kesyo our city is dirty, our city has dilapidated buildings all around, our city is not developed, etc. i mean, if these lies are always repeated people who haven't been to our city would think that they are true. anyone who have been to both cities could attest that those statements are not true.

that is what i don't like about these pretentious people. :bash::bash::bash:

^^
Miga, allow me to share my sentiments about what you are ranting. I will direct my thoughts to 'those' persons you are complaining about.

So here goes,

First and foremost...I subscribe to the theory that a Rising Tide lifts all boats.
There is NO need for negative campaigning just so your 'place' stands out and "wins."

Suggesting that Iloilo City is not developed, reaches the level of ignorance and PURE SPITE... If that is their biased opinion, then that's fine. But to say that, while pretentiously asserting their own false sense of objectivity --- is an insult to anyone's intellect here.

RE CvC
My point is this... saying one City is better City than the other has nothing to do with personal taste. That is my point. "I like Iloilo City more" or "I prefer Bacolod City more..." That is subjective opinions = personal taste. Just PREFERENCE!

When you COMPARE or say something is BETTER than something else it REQUIRES an explanation... same goes for PLACES or Cities.

I respect that people like Iloilo or Bacolod, but if they come out and say that Bacolod is a better City, without specifying what they mean by that, then it will aggravate me. Same goes for the other way around.

I won't get into the City dispute or CvC, because I think it's unnecessary. Bacolod and Iloilo are both great cities -- some likes one over the other, that's fine, but it's silly to argue about. I have a preference, just like everybody else, but you can have yours -- it doesn't bother me either way BUT long as IT IS plain PREFERENCE and not PUTTING the other one down, I can live with it.

LIES
Lies repeated over and over becomes popular belief and contrary to popular notion, it's not always TRUE. People nowadays are more discerning especially if what they are reading are online articles and or discussions. Besides LIARS go to hell, so let them BURN. ;)

My 0.02.

and those pretentious people even implied that those beggars were former sacadas from our side who migrated to their city to seek jobs. what are they trying to say, that the beggars on their streets came from our place and that the people in their place are all buena familia? :ohno:

how is that even possible? these people are living in fantasy. :hahaha:

^^
Miga, If you feel different, cool, cool.

In retrospect, aren't those majority of the 'buena familia' came from the Millionaires Row of Jaro?

Well, I just hope the hate stops. Remember that just because the anonymity of the internet can bring out the worst in us, doesn't mean it has to.

Let us live in reality, if they prefer Fantasy, let them be. ;)

My 0.02.

Yep. Starbucks is scheduled to open in Feb.

ps: @hawili, your model is a classmate of mine. :)

Spot on! Very well said Kiddo! I share your sentiments. :)

^^
What we lack right now is BIG VENUE to host more national conventions or even international. Hopefully, our LGU is doing something about this, take note that conventions are tourism related activities and the city stands to benefit more if we have a convention center with 3000-5000 pax capacity to start with. :)

(PNA)

This is it... the formal groundbreaking!

Groundbreaking for city college set December 8
By Montesa Griño-Caoyonan

The groundbreaking rites for the proposed Iloilo City Community College is set on December 8 and it is hoped that the school could open in the next school year, Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon said.

Ganzon, now acting mayor, said that based on his feasibility study, the city college will accommodate 270 students in its first year.

“Three courses will be offered and there will be two sections per course. One section will be composed of 45 students,” he said.

Ganzon said he will turn over his proposals to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog for his recommendations and to fast track the implementation of the project.

“If the mayor will accommodate my proposal, well and good but if not, I trust everything to him as long as it is for the good of the project,” he said.

The P25-million city college will rise on the 869-square meter lot of old BFAR building site in San Pedro, Molo district through the donation of Ilonggo tycoon Edgar Sia, head of the Injap Foundation Inc.

Ganzon said he is the sole author of the proposed City Community College in tribute to his father, the late Senator Rodolfo Ganzon, also a former city mayor.

Former Councilor Erlinda Liberiaga had also pushed for the establishment of the city college but there has been no committee report authored by Liberiaga adopted by the City Council, based on his inquiry with the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Ganzon said.

“I don’t care whoever is claiming to be the author. (What’s important) is the proposal was approved during the time of Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and I’m very happy that the city community college will serve its purpose,” he said.*

Chasing pavements (and memories) in Iloilo
By Stanley Palisada

During a brief sojourn in Iloilo, I saw the things that altered the face of the city since I left years ago. The two overpasses along General Luna St. spell GROWTH. With twice as many people, jeeps and cars plying the southern artery, the need for overpasses (even just a few hundred meters away from each other) seem justified.

During my student days, General Luna was never busy even if it was our equivalent to Manila’s university belt (with UP, USA, SPC and JBLCF along it) and hotel avenue (Sarabia Manor, Hotel Del Rio and Tree House). Today cars still creep even with the overpasses.

But I didn’t mind being stuck up there. The overpasses provided a good view of Iloilo’s southwestern skyline which is getting filled with buildings – a cityscape in the making! From the overpass one could clearly see high rises (six-eight floors, high rises by Iloilo standards) spawning on what used to be marshes on both sides of the Aquino Avenue and the Iloilo river – sights of progress long overdue.

The same overpasses should be built in the city’s north-bound artery. The road constriction along Tabuc Suba is a true test of wits today as it was during my Angelicum School days in the 80’s. It is still hard to keep traction on first gear climbing the Salog River Bridge in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Thousands take the MacArthur Drive to work or school everyday braving choke points along Grand Plains, Alta Tierra and the Jaro small market. The mind-numbing commute can only be remedied by an overpass, an alternative road or a well-lit, pothole-free Coastal Road. On our way to Iloilo Memorial Park on All Souls’ Day we tried to circumvent Tabuc Suba only to zigzag through Coastal Road’s good and bad portions.

In contrast to business-y southwestern Iloilo, north central Iloilo is at best, a dense residential site with clumps of agro-industrial and commercial enclaves steadily growing despite flood threats. There’s a New Society Commercial Complex near the boundary of Jaro and Leganes, Iloilo Supermart and Save More near NFA – barometers of a growing consumer base as new communities mushroom in ex-rice paddies.

Iloilo had finally zoned itself by evolving. No one deliberately planned on how the city should grow anyway. The new road networks in La Paz and Mandurriao were dictated by the city’s expanding business-and-pleasure district. The spillover of business there (trailblazed by SM and Smallville) paved the way for more investors to erect buildings that host restaurants, watering holes, amusement parks, hotels, schools, hospitals. Soon the old Iloilo airport will be gobbled up by buildings. For kicks, I drove by the deserted terminal area (now in half ruins) and reminisced happy plane-spotting moments. I was told that in the near future condominiums shall rise there. Indeed, Iloilo is changing right before the eyes.

Just over a decade ago business was limited to the overcrowded city proper. It was hard to educate Ilonggos to venture in the outskirts. I used to be kidded a lot by non-Ilonggo friends that we kept too much to the old ways by “living in districts” and only going to the city proper to work or shop. It was like Spanish time where people lived in barrios and do business in pueblos.

Not so long ago it was suicide for any business to venture outside the “sentro.” The boom at the diversion road (now Aquino Avenue) was unthinkable. One too many new businesses such as restaurants (Camino, Quarter Mile, Barracks, or Grandma’s Fried Chicken in Villa) have risked opening in the outskirts only to close down as patrons refuse to stray from established, cramped business districts Iznart, J.M. Basa or Delgado. It took a major player like SM City to drive people out of their already uncomfortable, comfort zones.

Today the city is definitely expanding and the “pueblo” mentality is no more. One can even work, study and play without leaving Jaro, Molo or Mandurriao. We have metropolized! But in the midst of growth, Iloilo should not lose its precious heirlooms – its historic city proper.

On the way to Fort San Pedro, I saw the gutted Campos Grocery and the old City Hall now leveled. Many of the dilapidated late 18th to early 19th century buildings along J.M. Basa, Aldeguer, Iznart and Ledesma are also reduced to flea markets, condemned instead of reinforced and restored to their original form.

Old buildings may seem unsightly to us who are used to seeing them. But for outsiders downtown Iloilo is tour in itself. Many cities in the Philippines are not blessed with a rich cultural heritage. I go around the country often enough to see that not all cities can lay claim to being “Queen City of the South” and have colonial buildings and edifices to back it up.

Iloilo clearly shows her illustrious past with J.M. Basa and Iznart Streets, or Muelle Loney. How sad these have been left to rot like the many Antillan homes in Jaro.

I also felt sorry for Fort San Pedro – which to me – is a reminder of a much simpler time. The breakwater where we used to spend quiet afternoons to watch idyllic Guimaras and her cross, now in partial ruin. I parked as I have not done in ages, and sat again on the jagged boulders and crumbled slabs. These are what remains of my front seat to Iloilo’s perfect sunsets. Ahay.*

Ahay.*

^^
I shared the thoughts of stanley in regards to the last statement referring the Fort San Pedro, Lewd saint. As what we discussed in the previous thread. This will be one of the legacy for Mabilog, if this water front from Fort San Pedro up to Fishing Port can be developed. This a huge challenge for him.If not on the first term at least it can be materialized on his second term.

(PNA)

Besides LIARS go to hell, so let them BURN. ;)

My 0.02.

Let us live in reality, if they prefer Fantasy, let them be. ;)

My 0.02.

padayawa lang da sila ya sang ila lugar ah... kay dayawon ta man ya ang aton lugar. as the saying goes, "one man's meat, is another man's poison." basta wala lang lapakay ah. hehehe. kay lain na na ya nga istorya.
