kanami sang Downtown CBD Revitalisation Project. I really like it. I hope this will materialise soon.:banana::banana::banana::banana: Soon ang battle sang business districts sa ciudad will be (1) Downtown/Old CBD; (2) Diversion's Smallville-Kapideco Business area; and (3) Megaworld's Central Business District. Dako gid ni nga competition between the old and new CBDs kung matabo. Each one's giving different shopping and economic perspective for the consumers and businessmen.

ChenG7 December 5th, 2010, 07:33 AM Its an IT hub (if you are referring to the Ayala Technohub), its a mixed commercial-residential district (if you are referring to Megaworld).
I hope we would change our perception that IT or BPO is call center alone. Now that we (Philippines) are the number one BPO destination in the world according to IBM's latest report. We have ousted India in outsourcing leader.
ohhh.. thank you so much habagat... im newbie here in SSC

BTW ang sa Prime Estate Area ya???..............
i think na nga wla pa sila gastart sng work dira basi ma-change sila mind sa condominiums na lng ang patindog instead sa Subdivision, if i am no wrong....

Gcorneja December 5th, 2010, 09:44 AM Excited for latest developments.
Btw, LandBank Jaro is going to construct their own building in a government-owned lot near their present site so I guess, it's gonna be in front of the Jaro Police Station.
Ang HH is, the lot is free provided they are going to build a building for the Jaro Fire Station and renovate (siguro) the Jaro PNP buliding.

Actually, pwede na ka start subong construct dira. Once you're fully paid, you can start constructing.
I was able to talk with someone from Prime Estates and there was this block near the clubhouse that was supposed to be reserved by Chusuey. But he let it go and it was opened to the public for sale. After just a month, sold out na. Im not sugarcoating that. That really happened.

- yup if not, maybe a long those piece of lands in Kapideco Area ara guid da ang AYALA CONDO. I think sakit guid buot sang AYALA nga ang Megaworld ang naka kuha sang OLD AIRPORT SITE, who would have thought they put-up their first AYALA TECHNOHUB PROJECT in ILOILO for the VISMIN AREA, and they never had a piece of land here in our city gulpiyada lang sila may AVIDA subdivision imagine that, It is less than 1 1/2 years. Then now a condo?. Daw guina hungod2x guid sang ayala nga unahan ang Megaworld haw. Daw guina sunlog guid nila ang guina tawag ni Tyo Tagoy nga the sleeping Giant..heheh

'Tyo Tagoy' December 5th, 2010, 01:18 PM dira gid ko sa imo Tyo Tagoy. Kung mahimu-an nila paagi nga butangan damo lights and himuo-an observation deck ang Jaro Belfry, mas maayo pa gid. Apart from Heritage and religious-related values sang belfry, makabulig pa ini padako sang income sang cathedral (is belfry under the management of the Catholic church or of NCCI?)
tani maumpisahan na nila ang restoration as soon as possible.

umpisahi nyo na restore ang OLD CAPITOL, JARO BELFRY kg ADUANA.
ANG KAHAPON AY HINDI NA MAIBABALIK KAILAN MAN!!!
TO THE GOV'T OF ILOILO CITY & PROVINCE; YOUR JUST WAISTING ILOILO'S PRECIOUS TIME!!!:bash::bash::bash:

i don't really know how AYALA LAND reacted sa bidding sng Old Airport kay, if my memory serves me right, indi man guid dako ang ila bid compare sa other investors such as SM and Robinson's and FILINVEST as well...kay nami guid man mag-develop ang AYALA in terms of Business Parks such as in Makati and Cebu....well ang Megaworld will not just put up buildings there just for nothing, i mean ang ila nga developments di sa Metro Manila mau man and daw wla lng sa Pilipinas....i would want AYALA to develop na lng ang other Tows nga ara sa Metro Iloilo-Guimaras....and to think na pwede pa madevelop sang Ayala ang beach sa Guimaras pwo not loosing its natural beauty such as in NUVALI in Sta. - Notice ko lang, Ayala's development in Manila is more in Modern, GREEN and with a touch of Japanese-Zen siguro, specially sa mga new developments nila pero sa MEGAWORLD, architectural marvels guid sila ya, best example sa Mckinley Hill (the venice piazza)
- So IMO, mas bagay guid ang Megawold mag develop sa old airport kay daw may relevance ang architectural design nga ubrahun nila sa heritage sang city natun.

It’s official: PH bests India as No. 1 in BPO
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 02:51:00 12/04/2010
Filed Under: business process outsourcing (BPO), Good news
MANILA, Philippines—After challenging India for the top position for several years, the Philippines is now the world leader in business support functions like shares services and business process outsourcing, according to the latest reports and trends analyses.
In fact, the country overtook India in these categories last year, according to IBM’s latest Global Locations Trend Annual Report, released recently in New York.
India now ranks No. 2, the first time it was not in the leading position for these activities, according to the IBM report, launched in October but made available online last month.
“The Philippines has taken over the lead in the global ranking from India,” the report said.
The IBM report said the Philippines offered a similarly attractive business environment for international business support functions as India. Unlike India’s BPO hot spots, however, labor costs here have not increased as much.
Revenue: $5.7B in 2010
On Thursday, the Contract Center Association of the Philippines said the country had become the call center of the world, with around 350,000 Filipinos working in call centers against India’s 330,000-strong workforce.
Revenues from the country’s call center industry are also expected to reach $5.7 billion this year, higher than India’s $5.5 billion, the CCAP said.
The call center industry, which provides so-called “voice” services like customer support and sales, is part of the BPO industry.
Call centers make up 70 percent of the BPO industry in the Philippines.
Currently, there are 600,000 Filipinos employed in the country’s BPO industry, according to the Business Processing Association of the Philippines.
India is here
In yet another sign of the Philippines’ BPO dominance, Tata Consultancy Services, the information technology services, business solutions and outsourcing arm of India’s giant Tata Group, opened its first BPO center in Southeast Asia at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig on Thursday.
“We believe that the Philippines has a very high quality of talent that can represent the company before our Asia-Pacific customers and our global customers,” said Vish Iyer, head for the Asia-Pacific region for Tata Consultancy Services.
Iyer also said Tata chose the Philippines because it “wants to be here to see the Philippine BPO industry grow from its current $9 billion [in annual revenues] to the projected $25 billion in 2016.”
The BPO center that Tata Consultancy inaugurated will have 400 seats, and a target of three clients, including Citibank.
Abid Ali Z. Neemuchwala, vice president and global head for business process services and process excellence, said the company expects to more than double this to 1,000 seats and a target of five clients two years from now.
The firm generated revenues of about $6 billion last year.
Support for BPO industry
In November, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said she would file a measure to “jump-start legislative support for the BPO industry, especially its workers” and urged other legislators “to formulate laws supporting this booming sunshine industry.”
According to the International Labor Organization, the BPO industry may be broadly divided into voice services such as call and contact centers, and non-voice or “back office” services, like finance and accounting, data processing and management, and human resource development.
An ILO report released last July noted that Filipino BPO employees were earning 53 percent more than workers of the same age in other industries.
The study pegged the average monthly salary of local BPO employees at P16,928, with men earning 13 percent more than women.
Local BPO employees also work 44.7 hours per week on the average, with overtime work averages of 1.12 hours per week.
Night work
The study also found that 42.6 percent of BPO employees in the country work at night, and that respondents have reported sleep disorders, fatigue, eye strain and body pains.
Following India in IBM’s ranking of BPO leaders were the United States, Poland, China, Britain, Columbia, Costa Rica, Fiji, Ireland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Hungary, Australia, Egypt, Chile, France, Canada, France, Singapore and the Netherlands.
The IBM report said Sri Lanka was another Asian country that had succeeded in positioning itself as an alternative to India. Reports from Cynthia D. Balana and Lawrence de Guzman, Inquirer Research

JollyGypsy December 5th, 2010, 09:57 PM - Notice ko lang, Ayala's development in Manila is more in Modern, GREEN and with a touch of Japanese-Zen siguro, specially sa mga new developments nila pero sa MEGAWORLD, architectural marvels guid sila ya, best example sa Mckinley Hill (the venice piazza)
- So IMO, mas bagay guid ang Megawold mag develop sa old airport kay daw may relevance ang architectural design nga ubrahun nila sa heritage sang city natun.
@Ayala Land ;)
ILOILO has a lot to offer. Like for example kon gusto nila highrises..ara ang Sta. Barbara, Fort San Pedro, Kapideco, vacant lot fronting Iloilo River (Lapuz District), some areas in Diversion Road fronting Benigno Aquino Avenue, ukon indi gani Guimaras Island. Somebody needed to open their eyes like job hunting kinda ;) :)

i totally agree. It's a welcome development if Megaworld will use underground electrical and cable wiring. Mas matinlo tulukon. I'm sure MW will take every step to make their project in Iloilo a great haven for good business investment, opportunities for all, showcasing their excellent planning and means in the field of real estate development.

up for public consultations
ILOILO — The draft Medium Term Regional Development Plan (MTRDP) for Western Visayas 2010–2016 is currently up for public consultations, a National Economic Development Authority 6 (NEDA-6) press release said.
Some of these consultations were already done in Capiz and Iloilo provinces on November 18 and 24, respectively.
They were facilitated by the Regional Planning committees and participated in by a cross section of the public sector.
The public consultations for Kalibo town in Aklan province were held on November 30, while for Negros Occidental, December 2.
NEDA-6 Director Ro-Ann Bacal said the MTRDP will not only translate President Benigno Aquino III’s development agenda but will also try to solve issues hindering the full development of the region.
The new MTRDP embodies the vision, core values, general principles, objectives/targets, strategies and major programs, projects and activities that the region will pursue in the next six years, NEDA Information Officer Cynthia Lumampao said.
It contains 11 chapters: Macroeconomy, Competitive Industry and Services Sectors, Tourism Development, Modern Agriculture, Infrastructure Support, Human Resource Development, Research and Development Thrusts, Biofuels and Renewable Energy Development, Good governance and the Rule of Law, Peace and Security, and Environment and Natural Resources, Lumipao said.
She said the enhanced draft will be presented to the major sector and special committees of the Regional Development Council.
The final draft will be submitted to the Full Council for its adoption and subsequent endorsement to the Office of the President, she said.
The MTRDP will be completed by (this month) while the MTRD Investment Program that translates the Plan into concrete programs and projects will be submitted by April 2011. (PIA/PN)

zynet December 6th, 2010, 03:29 AM Tagaytay and Bucari
MAKATI City — The last time we visited Tagaytay was in 2008, so last Saturday, we took the chance to see the ridge again. At 2,100 feet above sea level, the highest point in Cavite province, it is the place to be on a sunny weekend because of its cool climate.
With a land area of 932 square kilometers, Tagaytay is 55 kilometers away from Manila. Once a barangay of Silang town in Cavite province, Tagaytay is currently a city with a population 61,623. It has become popular for businessmen, high government officials and entertainment personalities to build a second home in Tagaytay.
Leaving Makati at about 10:30 a.m., we decided to take the Alabang-Sta. Rosa route. Traffic, however, slowed us down when we reached the road junction at Sta. Rosa, Laguna because of many private vehicles all en route to Tagaytay.
It was almost 12 noon, and we decided to stop for lunch just before the city boundary when we saw Ming’s Garden Center, a restaurant in the middle of a big garden of ornamental plants and trees.
To our pleasant surprise, the place is owned by an Ilongga — no less than former First Lady Ming Ramos! There is a big dining hall in the garden near the main entrance adjoining the parking lot. They serve Ilocano and Ilonggo specialties. Their pinakbet was simply very good.
Ming’s is a large garden that offers many kinds of plants in pots or for re-planting. We asked the waiter who is an Ilonggo from Cabatuan town if former President Fidel V. Ramos and Ming would come to the garden.
He told us that Mrs. Ramos would usually drop by in the afternoon to inspect her garden and talk with her plants, sometimes with the former President coming along, too.
We read a coffee table book “Simply Ming” while waiting for lunch to be served. We found out that it was a biography of the former First Lady.
Above all, we were pleased to know that she is a lover of environment by the hobby she has pursued even after retirement. We remember her campaign for the Pasig River when she was in Malacañang, and also her work of having improved the La Paz public plaza in Iloilo, where the First Lady, a Martinez , originally came from.
Turning right, downward the ridge, we drove as far as the Philippine Cut Flower Gardens, a high-walled flower plantation in Brgy. Buck Estate. Farther downhill, we were told, was already the town of Alfonso, Cavite.
There was also the Sonya’s, a bed and breakfast cottage hotel in the barangay in the midst of many trees, with massage and foot spa service to boot. With a crowded parking lot because of many visitors, we can see that it must be having good business. It was expanding with a new building under construction adjoining the parking lot to the West.
In the afternoon, on our way back, we stopped to take merienda at the Pamana, a three-level building with a viewing deck to enjoy a good last view of a serene Taal lake and volcano at the center. The establishment is owned by one of the Ongpauco children of Barrio Fiesta fame.
We noted very significant economic growth in Tagaytay since our last visit. More flower and ornamental plant gardens, new buildings at the ridge under construction, and new housing subdivisions, all give a feeling of moving progress.
We are currently thinking of Bucari in Leon, Iloilo, which has about the same distance from Iloilo City as Tagaytay is to Metro Manila, and may be just as cold in the summertime as Baguio City of Mountain Province. If we need a good tourism project, the development of the Leon-Bucari road can be it for Iloilo to become a natural attraction for tourists to increase visits to our area. spacewagon0001 December 6th, 2010, 06:14 AM Prov’l Board endorses STL in Iloilo
BY JEZZA NEPOMOCENO
ILOILO — The Provincial Board endorsed the operation of the Small Town Lottery (STL) in this province amid oppositions of the Church and other religious organizations.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. said the Committee of the Whole’s report endorsing STL will be signed today and will later be forwarded to his office.
“Let us accept the fact that we cannot totally abolish gambling,” said the governor over radio-television program Reklamo Publiko yesterday.
“If we do not want our children to be influenced by this, let us not lure them to join the game,” said Defensor.
Also, Defensor said he is not worried about Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) revoking franchise permits of some STL franchisees in the country.
“PCSO will only revoke problematic franchise holders,” he said.
The Certificate of No Objection on STL operation will be issued soon after Defensor receives the committee report, he said.
The Certificate of No Objection is the only requirement needed by Around D’ World Corp. to fully operate STL in the province.
By allowing STL’s operation, Defensor expects a decline in the number of illegal numbers games like bookies, first-two ball, etc.
“But to drastically eradicate illegal numbers game in the province, STL must be competitive,” he said.
It will also bring in more job opportunities and funds for social projects of different local government units, he said./PN

ChenG7 December 6th, 2010, 06:42 AM welcome @cheng7 sa aton cyber tambayan
thank you man zynet.. ga enjoy gid ko pirme everytime mabasa ko ang blog nyu.... damu gid ko nbal-an about sa Iloilo.
ChenG7 December 6th, 2010, 07:21 AM isa sa mga benifits namun as a callcenter agents is ang free hospitalization if ever ma hospital kami.... cnu man abi ang indi manami-an?? sick leave with pay,, got to rest for like 3-5 days sa hospital dependi sa imu nga sakit... the medicines are being paid of our insurance company as long as it was taken from the hospitals pharmacy... syempre dapat sa accredited ka nga hospital mapa admit...IMH, st.pauls, saviour,, each of us got 100k nga insurance every year kong ma hospital,, take note 100k taga sakit,, i mean for example na ospital ko last month due to dengue, i will be given 100k,, then kong this month naman pneumonia, another 100k.. the only thing nga indi ma cover sang insurance is ang medicine na gin bakal outside, kag kong mag gwa kna sa hospital syempre may mga take home medicine,, but thankful gid kami kay pwede mpa reimburse.... biskan gni vitamins pwede ma reimburse as long as u have the receipt lang... free dental and also reimbursement man sang eyegalsses if ga suksuk ka eh...
nadumduman ko last july sang na hospital ko due to CAP (community acquired Pneumonia) and Acute sinusitis, i was hospitalized for 3 days and 2 nights.... i was admitted sa IMH, semi-suite... 2,050php per night ang room,, with TV... pag check out ko i only paid 165pesos.. excess sa room kay and covered sang insurance 1,995php.. so every day may excess ko nga 55php... ti daw ka bongga kay after that may rest pa gid ko dayun na another 3 days,,, i was paid for that.. may sick leave man mo...
But last week we received a bad news about these benifits that we have... our TL, had a meeting with the HCD/HR... they were told na if ma hospital,, indi na daw ma cover tanan... i mean.. starting january 01, 2011.. kong ma hospital kmi dapat gid kami mag bayad 2,000 plus ang excess sa room nga ang ma cover sang insurance around like mga 1500-1900 lang... ti cmu b nami man na??? na feel gru nila na damu na naga pa hospital nga mga agents.. hahaha... daw ka saja lang mag muni... cgeha nyu.. patya nyu gid kmi....
habagatcentral1 December 6th, 2010, 07:32 AM ^^ Hmmm...your not alone. The employers blame the rising cost of hospitalization coming from the employees...and some of them are guilty of malingering. Others think that its a cost-cutting measure to gain profits. May I ask, what's your health HMO please?
spacewagon0001 December 6th, 2010, 07:32 AM Excited for latest developments.
Btw, LandBank Jaro is going to construct their own building in a government-owned lot near their present site so I guess, it's gonna be in front of the Jaro Police Station.
Ang HH is, the lot is free provided they are going to build a building for the Jaro Fire Station and renovate (siguro) the Jaro PNP buliding.
that's a good deal for LandBank and PNP Jaro. Sayng ina dira building nila. If ma-renovate ina sing maayo, it's another iconic building restored na naman sa Jaro.:cheers:
spacewagon0001 December 6th, 2010, 07:38 AM I was thinking, the next convention...maybe we can have it held at the front of Miag-ao Church? Hehe! When we went to the church, the facade was full of chairs...they'll be having an activity...the jubilee of ordination of a priest in Miagao. Naging convention center ang harapan ng Miagao Church, hehe! :D

spacewagon0001 December 6th, 2010, 07:45 AM ROMMEL YNION: FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
GOOD news to all members of the Fourth Estate in Iloilo!
SUCCESSFUL young businessman and philanthropist Rommel Ynion, who is now in Moscow for important business engagements, sent us the following text message:
“I am setting up a foundation to help all Iloilo mediamen. Will give them health and accident insurance and scholarships for their children. This will be done ASAP. You can announce this already in Lapsus.”
As our brother in profession, Rommel has a heart that bleeds for many members of the press who still belong to the hoi polloi sector on account of economic hardships.
The guy has plenty of milk of human kindness.
This is the first time that a man with great riches in our midst does not know how to eat alone. He wants others to partake of the fruits of his hard labor.
As Aesop said, “He who eats alone fights alone.”
good news for our Ilonggos mediamen and of course, good news for Iloilo, too as a whole. I hope Mr Ynion will bring more investments in Iloilo City and Province.:banana::banana:
STL FATE KNOWN
GOV. Art Defensor Sr. and Vice Gov. Richard Garin, on separate interviews, have eloquently pronounced that the Provincial Board has approved the STL operation in Iloilo after noting the presence of social acceptance from various sectors of the society.
STL will generate three main benefits for the public:
1) Will give income to LGUs for their social and civic functions to the public
2) Will give job opportunities to many jobless people, and
3) Will eliminate illegal numbers game.
Gambling is part of human activities since time immemorial.
Right in Vatican City, or in all places on earth, gambling — in any form for that matter — is in vogue. Let us not be hypocrite.
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
so okay na kay Gov ang STL?:lol::lol::lol::lol: How about ang casino, ma-okay man ayhan ang probinsiya, ekkaso may mag-invest casino sa Iloilo? Btw, sin-o ang tourism officer sang province subong? Si Mr Marin man guihapon?

spacewagon0001 December 6th, 2010, 07:55 AM i don't really know how AYALA LAND reacted sa bidding sng Old Airport kay, if my memory serves me right, indi man guid dako ang ila bid compare sa other investors such as SM and Robinson's and FILINVEST as well...kay nami guid man mag-develop ang AYALA in terms of Business Parks such as in Makati and Cebu....well ang Megaworld will not just put up buildings there just for nothing, i mean ang ila nga developments di sa Metro Manila mau man and daw wla lng sa Pilipinas....i would want AYALA to develop na lng ang other Tows nga ara sa Metro Iloilo-Guimaras....and to think na pwede pa madevelop sang Ayala ang beach sa Guimaras pwo not loosing its natural beauty such as in NUVALI in Sta. Rosa, Laguna....pwede man madevelop sang Ayala ang Old Business district to revitalize it if wla pa sang Investor pra i-develop ang Old CBD dra sa City Proper...but we all want the best for OUR CITY, OUR PRIDE!(my city, my pride)...hehe
I rather have Ayala build their own CBD outside the city ie Oton, Sta Barbara towns. Damo pa duta sa Iloilo nga puwede i-develop. And with Ayala, anywhere man ang ila development, sundon gid ina sang tawo due to their quality developments. Maybe it's high time for them to look beyond the city. The city is not the lifeblood of Ilonggo economy alone, the towns of the province are slowly rising by now -- although the city remains the biggest business hub of the region and one of the arterial exchanges and linkages across the country.

bulabog jalaur December 6th, 2010, 07:58 AM Tagaytay and Bucari

Just correction from the article of mr Novera which posted by zynet, the land area of tagaytay, maybe he was referring to population density, or else tagaytay must be larger than whole of metro manila or guimaras. Tagaytay city and Iloilo city are somewhat comparable in land area.

silky December 6th, 2010, 11:52 AM Phinma preparing for expansion projects next year
LISTED holding firm Phinma Corp., formerly Bacnotan Consolidated Industries, Inc., is gearing up for expansion next year, its top executive said.
Expansion and new ventures have been set for the residential property development, wind energy, and education businesses.
“Next year, we hope to do six projects simultaneously, which is the largest ever. Right now, we have only four so we have to build up our capability,” Phinma President Ramon R. del Rosario, Jr. told reporters late last week.
Phinma Properties, Inc., which develops low-cost condominium units in Metro Manila, set aside about P800 million to launch four projects this year.
As of the first quarter, Phinma Properties had built 7,041 condominium units since moving into low-cost housing projects. For next year, the firm will launch four projects in Quezon City and two in Alabang and Sucat, the first time for the company to venture into southern Metro Manila.
The property unit is banking on high demand from end-users in the economic segment.
“That is where the market remains strong. There is still a great [unmet] demand in that segment,” Mr. del Rosario said.
“From [building] 2,000 units next year, we hope to double it to 4,000 in the subsequent year,” he added.
There is an estimated housing backlog of 3.8 million nationwide, but only 200,000-250,000 units are built by the entire property sector annually.
For the power business, Phinma wants to generate “a range of 150 megawatts (MW) [of capacity] eventually all over in the Philippines, not only in Guimaras,” he said.
The holding firm wants to generate 54 MW from two wind energy projects in Guimaras province starting 2012.
“The 54 MW is firmer already. The balance will be later,” Mr. del Rosario said, adding that Phinma was still waiting for the government to set “feed-in” tariff rates, which will be higher than those for conventional power to encourage investments into renewable energy.
For its education businesses, Mr. del Rosario said: “We are hoping that two out of three [schools for potential acquisition] will take place.”
“We are looking at [acquiring a] relatively one big [school] right now in the Visayas,” he added. Moving forward, the company wants to have 50,000 to 100,000 students, higher than the current 25,000 through acquisitions and organic growth.
Subsidiaries and associates of Phinma include Atlas Holdings Corp., Union Galvasteel Corp., One Animate Ltd., Araullo University, Cagayan de Oro College, Inc., Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp., AB Capital and Investment Corp., University of Pangasinan, and University of Iloilo.
Shares in Phinma, whose profits fell by a third to P221 million in the nine months that ended September amid losses in oil exploration and animation units, were unchanged at P10.70 each on Friday.

“Such exemplary accomplishment attests to the high sense of professionalism and noble dedication of our educators, giving an outstanding testimony that indeed, the state’s investment to public education is not a lost cause after all,” he said.
The accolade and recognition are truly the mark of noteworthy inspiration which every public servant and government functionary must always aim to achieve, Mabilog added.
“We are building our students’ characters and strengthening their morals through values education,” Mabilog said.
Last year, Iloilo City National High School in Molo district also won the same award from PSEP for their outstanding school-based values education program.
LPNHS Principal Judith Benjamin received the citation from the mayor during Monday’s flag raising ceremony at the City Hall.
She said they are doing their best to implement values education because it is one way of reforming their students to be better citizens.
Aside from their newest recognition from PSEP, LPNHS also placed fifth out of 54 national high schools in a countrywide poster making contest; 1st runner-up in the 2nd National Science and Technology Fair by the Development Academy of the Philippines; and finalist in the national “Brigada Eskwela” of the Department of Education

Kaltehitze December 6th, 2010, 12:00 PM Phinma preparing for expansion projects next year
LISTED holding firm Phinma Corp., formerly Bacnotan Consolidated Industries, Inc., is gearing up for expansion next year, its top executive said.
“From 2,000 units next year, we hope to double it to 4,000 in the subsequent year,” he added.
[B]The holding firm wants to generate 54 MW from two wind energy projects in Guimaras province starting 2012.

'Tyo Tagoy' December 6th, 2010, 01:26 PM Tagaytay and Bucari

'Tyo Tagoy' December 6th, 2010, 01:28 PM Iloilo City College groundbreaking set Wednesday
ILOILO CITY, Dec. 6 (PNA) -- The groundbreaking of the P25-million, three-story Iloilo City Community College will be held at its 869-square-meter site in San Pedro, Molo on Wednesday.
Its construction is expected to be completed in time for the opening of classes in June next year.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the family of Ilonggo business tycoon Edgar “Injap” Sia II, head of Injap Foundation Inc., and Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. will grace the groundbreaking rites as guests of honor.
Mabilog added that he also invited Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda R. Marcos to attend, although she has yet to confirm.
Sia, chairman and CEO of Mang Inasal Philippines and Injap Investments, committed for the construction of 30- to 35-classroom facility equipped with a computer lab, cafeteria and a school administration office.
The City College will be built and donated by Sia to the city government.
“Our dream of a city community college is coming into reality. This is very good news and we are happy for the construction of a new building complete with facilities and fixtures. We are very thankful to Mr. Sia for his legacy to the city,” Mabilog said.
The mayor added the City Hall allocated a P2-million budget for scholarships and will implement a ladderized program of courses for the poor but deserving students.
He said they will sit down with the Commission on Higher Education to discuss the courses to be offered as well as finalize the school faculty. (PNA)

ILOILO CITY, Dec. 6 (PNA) – A new Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather station will be established in the port area of the municipality of Guimbal next year.
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Dir. Owen Gelonga said the weather station to be built would be a permanent one as the lot was offered by the Municipal Government of Guimbal.
Gelonga said it would serve as a maritime monitoring station.
The PAGASA weather station is currently holding a temporary office in Mandurriao in this city.
Under its modernization program, the PAGASA equipment will be upgraded equipped with automatic weather monitoring gadgets.
Such gadgets would provide the public fast and accurate updates on the weather conditions.

Phinma preparing for expansion projects next year
LISTED holding firm Phinma Corp., formerly Bacnotan Consolidated Industries, Inc., is gearing up for expansion next year, its top executive said.
“From 2,000 units next year, we hope to double it to 4,000 in the subsequent year,” he added.
There is an estimated housing backlog of 3.8 million nationwide, but only 200,000-250,000 units are built by the entire property sector annually.
[B]For the power business, Phinma wants to generate “a range of 150 megawatts (MW) [of capacity] eventually all over in the Philippines, not only in Guimaras,” he said.
Subsidiaries and associates of Phinma include Atlas Holdings Corp., Union Galvasteel Corp., One Animate Ltd., Araullo University, Cagayan de Oro College, Inc., Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp., AB Capital and Investment Corp., University of Pangasinan, and University of Iloilo.

Probably, maybe. But Megaworld's decision is final. That still depends on the market. This is their largest land to date and the market is not that as big as Manila's or Cebu's yet. That's why they are resorting to a more laidback low and mid-rise. I find Eastwood crampy, IMO. And its hot too.
Anyway, we can have those high-rises somewhere in the city or at MIDC? :D

'Tyo Tagoy' December 6th, 2010, 10:36 PM Alliance Global sets P7-B tourism venture
ALLIANCE GLOBAL Group, Inc. is set to spend P7 billion on tourism ventures outside Metro Manila, the listed conglomerate led by Andrew L. Tan said in a disclosure yesterday.
THE RESORTS World complex in Pasay, just across Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. This came after management secured board approval to expand tourism projects outside the capital for the first time.
The conglomerate will also issue more than P4 billion in existing treasury shares, prompting a drop in share prices.
“The Board of Directors of Alliance Global has authorized its management to expand its tourism portfolio by pursuing tourism projects in provincial areas outside Metro Manila,” the company told the local stock exchange in a disclosure yesterday.
“Tourism is poised to become the country’s next sunshine industry,” Alliance Global President Kingson U. Sian said in a statement.
“Alliance Global’s new tourism projects outside Metro Manila will create synergies with its ongoing Resorts World Manila at Newport City in Pasay City. All [this] will help boost the country’s image as a prime tourist destination in the region,” Mr. Sian added.
The eight-hectare Resorts World Manila complex in Pasay is the first integrated tourism development of Alliance Global under Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc. Travellers International is a joint venture with Genting Hong Kong Ltd., the third-largest cruise line operator in the world.
The project is composed of the country’s largest casino, the five-star Marriott Hotel, and the six-star Maxims Hotel. It will also have the Remington and Belmont hotels, along with a 1,500-seat theater, fine-dining restaurants, and a shopping mall.
Other properties that Alliance Global wants to develop for tourism projects include the 54-hectare old Iloilo airport and a 25-hectare property in Mactan, Cebu.
In an interview, Felino A. Palafox, Jr., founder and principal architect of local architecture and engineering firm Palafox Associates, said Alliance Global wants to develop the airstrip into a walkway with al fresco dining like the Las Ramblas in Barcelona, Spain.
Since the opening of Resorts World Manila in August last year, the company has welcomed about 2.5 million tourists. Alliance Global expects foreign visitors to Resorts World to reach 800,000 within the next three years, equivalent to at least $1 billion in receipts.
The total investment for Resorts World Manila from 2009 to 2012 had been estimated at $740 million, of which $600 million is for tourism development and $140 million for residential and retail.
Alliance Global meanwhile said its board had authorized the re-issuance of treasury shares. Treasury shares stood at P4.13 billion in the nine months that ended in September, down from P4.33 billion in the previous year.
The firm, which was the top traded local stock yesterday, lost 2.46% or P0.32 to P12.64 apiece.
“Alliance Global led all index losers on reports that the company was authorized to sell shares it holds in treasury, which expands the number of shares available in the market,” local brokerage firm SB Equities, Inc. said.
Alliance Global -- whose nine-month net income attributable to shareholders rose by 63% to P5.39 billion from P3.31 billion in the same period last year -- is into property (Megaworld Corp.), liquor (Emperador Distillers, Inc.), and fastfood (Golden Arches Development Corp., the master franchise holder of McDonald’s in the Philippines). -- Neil Jerome C. spacewagon0001 December 6th, 2010, 11:16 PM HR boosts Iloilo City’s investor drawing power
Iloilo City’s best asset is still its human resources and this continues to encourage investors to relocate in the city.
This was the result of the 2009 Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project (PCCRP) undertaken by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Policy Center to compare Philippine cities’ ability to attract investments.
AIM Consultant for its 2009 PCCRP Jigger Latoza said Iloilo City “made a very impressive performance” after it ranked first in terms of human resources when compared with other Philippine cities covered by the study.
The study assessed 30 major cities nationwide using six drivers: infrastructure, human resources, the local economy’s dynamism, local government units’ responsiveness, cost of doing business and quality of life.
Latoza said Iloilo City is already a “City of Universities” as it has seven universities and 20 colleges.
Distance learning is also available from among these schools.
“The good standing of Iloilo in terms of human resource training is not only because of our graduates and number of schools-universities here were judged, using Commission on Higher Education and creditor standards, as among the country’s best,” Latoza said.
PCCRP is a biennial independent study based on the development framework of Institute of Management and Development in Switzerland, he continued.
He noted the annual world competitiveness project compares countries in terms of ability to attract investments.
Latoza said some negative perception about the city can be explained as the assessors considered the data presented in the proper context.
Overall, he said “Iloilo City’s very competitive.”*PNA

spacewagon0001 December 6th, 2010, 11:18 PM City College groundbreaking tomorrow
ILOILO City — The P25-million, three-storey Iloilo City Community College will ground break on its 869-square meter site at San Pedro, Molo at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
The family of Ilonggo business tycoon Edgar “Injap” Sia II, head of the Injap Foundation Inc., and Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. will grace the groundbreaking rites as guests of honor, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.
Mabilog said he also invited Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos to attend though the latter has yet to confirm.
Sia, chairman and CEO of Mang Inasal Philippines and Injap Investments, committed for the construction of 30- to 35-classroom facility equipped with a computer laboratory, cafeteria and an administration office.
The City College, which is expected to be completed in time for the opening of classes in June next year, will be donated by Sia to the city government.
“Our dream of a city community college is coming into reality. This is very good news and we are happy for the construction of the new building complete with facilities and fixtures. We are very thankful to Mr. Sia for his legacy to the city,” stressed Mabilog.
On the other hand, the city government allocated P2 million for scholarships and will implement a ladderized program of courses for the poor but deserving students, the mayor said.
Mabilog said they will sit down with the Commission on Higher Education to discuss the courses to be offered as well as finalize the school faculty. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)

vaatzhoy December 7th, 2010, 05:27 AM Hanoi miracle: Filipino booters make history By Cedelf P. Tupas
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 02:11:00 12/07/2010
HANOI—Philippine team skipper Aly Borromeo emerged from the dugout wearing a sheepish smile and shaking his head in disbelief.
If it took a while for the Philippines’ biggest win in football in recent years to sink in, it was understandable.
Long considered as one of the weakest teams in Asia, the Filipinos achieved the improbable Sunday night when they shut out the defending champion Vietnamese, 2-0, in the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup at the My Dinh Stadium here.
Before a hostile crowd of close to 40,000, Chris Greatwich scored for the second straight game, before Phil Younghusband struck in the second half as the Filipinos pulled off the biggest upset in the 16-year history of the competition.
And for one chilly night, this football-mad city belonged to a Philippine team composed of local and overseas-bred players who entered the tournament with little expectations.
If there’s a need for a close parallel, the country’s victory over Vietnam in Hanoi is like a win by Brunei over the Philippines’ national basketball team in Manila.
“Beating Vietnam is just unbelievable,” said Borromeo, who couldn’t help but look back at a time when the national team was just struggling not to lose by big margins in the tournament.
“I just couldn’t believe that we made history. There was a time when we just struggled to get good results in this tournament.”
It was only the second win by the Filipinos in this tournament, after a 2-1 victory over Timor Leste in the 2004 tournament.
With four points from two matches, the Filipino booters are now in an unlikely position at the top of the group, needing just a draw against Burma (Myanmar) on Wednesday to advance to the home-and-away semifinals.
“It’s a new era for Philippine football,” said team manager Dan Palami, who has bankrolled the team since last year. “I’m just happy we are creating believers out of this team.”
The Filipinos can even top the group—a remote possibility a few weeks ago considering that the team needed to go through the qualifying stage—with a victory over the winless Burmese.
Header in 37th minute
Despite Vietnam owning the lion’s share of possession, it was the Philippines which conjured the first real chance when Borromeo fed Ian Araneta from a corner kick only for the Iloilo-born striker to hit the wrong side of the post in the 19th minute.
Anton del Rosario’s cross found an unmarked Greatwich, whose diving header in the 37th minute found the bottom corner and drowned the cheers of the huge crowd.

Alliance Global sets P7-B tourism venture
-- Neil Jerome C. silky December 7th, 2010, 11:45 AM Mayor: City redistricting to lure new power distributor firm
ILOILO CITY, Dec. 7 – Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog here is optimistic that the city will be able to get a new power distributor firm once the city is divided into two districts.
Mayor Mabilog said that a new power distributing firm in the city will help stop power outages and brownouts. It will also hasten the delivery of power to most business establishments.
Mabilog also said that power rates will definitely go down, while distribution lines will improve and less "jumbled."
He also said that more investors will venture into Iloilo City, especially that it aims to address several power problems, including efficient power services through a reliable power distributor.
It is noted that Iloilo City Rep. Jerry Treñas filed a bill which seeks a dividing of Iloilo City into two districts in the 15th Congress.
The bill calls for the creation of an additional legislative district for city, and two separate budget allocations. If approved, the first district will be composed of Jaro, La Paz, Lapuz and Mandurriao while the City Proper, Molo and Arevalo shall comprise the second district.
Treñas, who chairs the House Committee on Good Governance and Public Accountability, is optimistic that the bill will be approved in both the Lower and Upper House of Congress by early 2011.
He said he will lobby for the support of Sen. Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., who is chairman of the Senate’s Committee on Local Governments.
PECO is the sole power distribution firm in Iloilo City, which purchases power direct from the Panay Power Corporation (PPC). PPC does not engage in power distribution.
Ilonggos here lament the daily power outages in the past months, despite the soft operation of a coal-fired power plant in Barangay Ingore, La Paz. This is aside from several reports of power pilferage and illegal tapping of electric lines in some villages, due to poor power lines.
2011 Paraw Regatta to raise P2M
ILOILO CITY – The Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation Inc. (IPRFI) here hopes to raise some P 2 million from the 2011 sailing festival.
IPRFI chairman Manuel Villa, Jr. said that the amount will finance various sports events and programs intended for the week-long sailing festival. Part of the fund wills also be used by the foundation for its scholarship programs to deserving children of Ilonggo fishermen.
Villa said that the foundation expected a total donation of P 2 million from local government units (LGUs) and corporate firms for the 39th Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival.
He said that IPRFI would host the event with the support of the government of Iloilo city and province as well as other companies.
The regatta will highlight a 30-km long race using the traditional Paraw or native outriggers on Sunday. The sails course through the Iloilo Strait along the coast of Panay and Guimaras Island, and will end at the Villa Beach.
Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said that the Paraw Regatta had been an Ilonggo tradition, and had boosted sports and eco-tourism. It is noted that Paraw Regatta was adjudged as 2009 Best Sports Tourism Event in the Philippines. It has attracted sailing enthusiasts from Europe, Australia and USA.
Paraw Regatta is dubbed as the largest sailing event in the Philippines as well as the oldest and longest in Asia. Next year’s sailing is slated on Feb. 13 to 20 with the theme, ‘Philippine Seafaring Tradition Goes Worldwide.’
silky December 7th, 2010, 11:48 AM City gov’t to release P6-M fund for Dinagyang Festival
ILOILO CITY, Dec. 7 – The city government here, one of the triumvirate that is running the annual Dinagyang Festival, will release the P6-million fund it committed on first week of January next year.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that he has already talked with the executive committee of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) about the matter and the latter agreed to just raise the amount needed until January when the city has the funds ready.
The mayor added that the fund was actually included in the city’s 2010 budget but this local government unit still “needs the fund for more important expenses.”
The P6-million fund based on the memorandum of agreement (MOA) entered into by the triumvirate composed of the IDFI, the San Jose Parish Placer and the city government will be utilized as “incentive allowance to different participating Dinagyang and Kasadyahan tribes to include and cover expenses for the celebration.”
The IDFI that was mandated to institutionalize the festival “shall spend and disburse its fund in accordance with the guidelines and activities subject to applicable accounting and auditing procedures.”
The San Jose Parish Placer shall be “in-charge of the liturgical phase of the 2011 Iloilo Dinagyang Festival.”

Haldir07 December 7th, 2010, 12:31 PM Mayor: City redistricting to lure new power distributor firm
This is aside from several reports of power pilferage and illegal tapping of electric lines in some villages, due to poor power lines.
tane ang Jaro-La paz-Lapuz-Mandurriao district nga area iya sang bag-o nga power distributor firm para wala na kami sa PECO :lol::lol:
ano mahambal nyo City Proper-Molo-Arevalo??

The college building will be built on an 869-square meter site in San Pedro, Molo district.
Sia, chairman and chief executive officer of Mang Inasal Philippines and Injap Investments, committed to fund the construction of a 30- to 35-classroom facility equipped with a computer laboratory, cafeteria and a school administration office.
“Our dream of a city community college is coming into reality. This is very good news and we are happy for the construction of new building complete with facilities and fixtures. We are very thankful to Mr. Sia for his legacy to the city,” Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.

Christmas Bonus
Meanwhile, Mabilog said yesterday that City Hall employees will receive a minimum of P10,000 Christmas bonus.
He said the Local Finance Committee composed of the city treasurer, accountant and budget officer are looking for funds.
The city government has almost 1,700 regular employees, aside from the casual workers or job hires, who can also avail of the incentive.*

City gov’t to release P6-M fund for Dinagyang Festival

Hanoi miracle: Filipino booters make history By Cedelf P.

JollyGypsy December 7th, 2010, 04:05 PM Nothing new. Stumbled upon this page (https://trademarks.ipophil.gov.ph/tmgazette/EG_RecordFound.ASP?PubCODE=2009.8.4&ID=1&pubdate=9/1/2009) while googling. Megaworld has already registered the trademarks for the 3 potential names that the company will be using for their mixed-use development at the Old Airport lot.
1. Iloilo Business Park
2. Iloilo Central Business District
3. Iloilo Central Business Park
I would prefer #2 ::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:
