Ombudsman Iloilo ranks highest in accomplishment, lowest in unresolved complaints
By Florence F. Hibionada
THE Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas Iloilo Field Office has been recognized as the country’s “top performer.”
Be it in administrative matters, handling and resolution of complaints to delivery of “freebies” in services, Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Pelagio Apostol gave his thumbs-up.

City eyes 24-hour drive
to sustain cleanliness
ILOILO City -- The city government is set to go 24 hours in its campaign to ensure the sustainability of its cleanliness program.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he will create a team, dubbed as Task Force Graffiti, to conduct strict monitoring and launch a massive campaign against vandalism.
The team, to be headed by one regular employee and job hires as members, will be deployed during nighttime. The team will be escorted by policemen.
The mayor said most of the vandals are committed early in the morning or while perpetrators are on their way home after having some drinking spree.
Mabilog said the initiative will not only “improve our cleanliness campaign” but will also help deter criminal activities. (PNA)

Electricity rates drop in Iloilo City
ILOILO CITY -- Power rates in this city have dropped by nearly P2 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) since a new coal-fired power plant started operating in November last year.
Panay Electric Co. (PECo), the sole power distributor in Iloilo City, said in a statement that generation charge dropped to P6.9732/kWh last month from P8.5981/kWh in November 2010.
Randy S. Pastolero, PECo vice-president for operations, said in the statement that his company was able to cut the generation charge passed on to its customers as it started drawing power from Panay Energy Development Corp.’s new 164-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in La Paz district.
"This was achieved despite the increasing trend in diesel and bunker fuel prices due to the introduction of cheaper power from the Panay Energy coal-fired power plant," Mr. Pastolero said.
Panay Energy, a subsidiary of Metrobank group’s Global Business Power Corp., provides 30 MW-40 MW to PECo.
The first 82-MW unit of the new coal plant was commissioned in November last year, while the second was synchronized with the first and the generating units of Panay Power Corp. just last Saturday. -- FALA :okay:

This good news made my day. :D:okay:
This will certainly send a good signal for would be investors in the City of Love! :)
I always want to look at it in figures.
We are talking of building a football stadium. A decent small stadium with around 20,000 seats will probably cost around $70m or roughly Php3 billion. Let’s just say the capacity will instead be 10,000 and make it a minimally-designed stadium, we can maybe say it will cost around Php1 billion. Add to that the “standard” add-ons to “you know who they are”.
Drilon can maybe lobby for the fund. But for a project proposal of such financial magnitude, he has to justify it with all his might to get the budget allocation (in consideration of the present government’s other priorities).
I don’t know who Araneta is, but I hope he has a lot of clout in the government to lobby for the budget.
Now, if the government can’t provide the funds, and the only chance to come up with the money is through private initiatives, then we can have these options as @Metro stated.
1. The Aranetas. Is Araneta willing to share some of his millions to fund the project? Perhaps a 5% share of the cost or Php50m from his coffers? I am not really sure how he can be of assistance.
2. The Birons. Maybe Pharmawealth can also put up a 5% share of the cost. That’s another Php50m. It’s a stab in the dark, though, and I simply can’t see it coming. How much is the company worth anyway?
3. Overseas Filipinos. Barotacnons will be very keen to participate in the fund raising. But we cannot expect so much from overseas Filipinos who are not from Barotac.
In any case, we can make a rough calculation.
Let’s say that we target 10% of the cost or Php100m pesos coming from overseas Filipinos, and the average donation is $100 (Php5,000), we will need 20,000 heads to come up with the target amount. I hope the number of Barotacnons overseas is close to 20k, which I doubt.
If all 3 options above can be met, we still have 80% of the cost (Php800m) to think of. Where to get this, I don’t know.
So, private initiative won’t work, IMO. Sorry migo @Metro, they may have the will, but I don’t think it’s the way to go.
The only option I can think of is for the government to fund it. So the proponents should start laying down the plans now. It may take them a decade or more to have this dream realized…. or may not be realized at all.
I truly love to see a football stadium in Iloilo. But at the rate our economy is going, I just don’t see it coming in the near future.
^^
Add to that other "Private Entities" not mentioned. For sure, not only Barotacnons will donate but any Ilonggos (with the love for sport for that matter) will give something to contribute. And yes, the amount may not that big but collectively it might amount to something.
Also we have many Ilonggo Philanthropist. I know this is quite a long shot but it could be done (My apologies, for I am one stubborn optimist :D).
I didn't say that it will happen overnight, but it will be done even if its painfully slow and will take quite some time. That is one big reality we have to deal with, a 3rd world country will have to content itself with a 3rd world solution and a 3rd world budget. And yes, the saying that, 'the poor man pays twice' rings true here. :ohno:
It is sad to to say, even for the love of all good and beautiful in this sport, that Barotacnon's came to embrace and perhaps the rest of Iloilo, this dream of having a decent football stadium may have to wait, well, a little bit longer.
But if this will be a community advocacy then perhaps even for the architectural design talented Ilonggos can lend their expertise and can came up with decent design with a 'meager' budget. This is where innovation sets in. For the stadium lot, I am certain someone with a heart of gold will donate that. Again, these are also the little things that counts... :)
But then again, who really knows, things happen and with Nonong Araneta at the helm of PFF, for sure he can came up with something. ;)
Lastly 'migo Shyaman, thanks for sharing your views and putting it in logistical perspective at least that will give us an idea the kind of financial mountain we have to conquer. ;)
And its great to see you back here sharing your views. Hope to hear more from you, its been a while 'migo. The last time I could remember was, we're on the same side of the fence and that was for Panay Railways Pros and Cons days!

2 PROPERTIES IN ILOILO?
FORMER Armed Forces chief Roy Cimatu came under the spotlight in the Senate yesterday over his purported acquisition of two pieces of property in Iloilo City as a young officer beyond his means.
He was caught off-guard by Sen. Frank Drilon's questions on the two pieces of property, and failed to fully explain how he managed to acquire them.
“For your information your honor, my in-laws... they might have acquired it on their own…Even when I was a lieutenant, they had some lands in Antique and Iloilo,” was all he could say.
Sen. Frank, however, reminded him that one property was titled in his name and his wife, while the other property was titled in his wife’s name and wondered how one ended up in his name.
Why are our generals fond of acquiring properties in Iloilo?
Ex-Armed Forces comptroller Carlos Garcia, who has been charged with plunder, also has lots of properties in Iloilo.
Interesting.
Do they have brokers here in Iloilo?

Jed finding excuses on illegal structures?
By Francis Allan L. Angelo and Lydia C. Pendon
MAYOR Jed Patrick Mabilog has asked the city council to help him eliminate illegal structures along the Iloilo River banks by passing appropriate legislation against four big structures violating environmental laws.
In an urgent endorsement to the council, Mabilog said these structures include:
- Barbecue Park restaurant along the diversion road which has a rejected public land application or Miscellaneous Lease Application (MLA) with the DENR;
- Ryan’s Seafoods Bar and Grill Restaurant, also at the diversion road with a rejected public land application specifically Foreshore Lease Agreement (FLA) with the DENR;
- The docking site for a yacht along Brgy. President Roxas in Iloilo City Proper;
- and the former barangay hall of Brgy. Taal, Molo district for lack of documents to show as rightful and lawful claimant.
Certain quarters though view Mabilog’s action as “lame” and “just passing the buck to skirt away from his obligations as chief executive”.

^^
Passing the buck or in proper context it is called 'delegation'
Well, the Mayor can always delegate task... it is his prerogative.
MAYOR Jed Patrick Mabilog has asked the city council to help him eliminate illegal structures along the Iloilo River banks by passing appropriate legislation against four big structures violating environmental laws.
^^
The way I understand this is that, the good Mayor is making sure everything is according to the law. He wants to be absolutely certain that there will be no loopholes in eliminating this illegal structures by asking for 'appropriate' legislation from the city council. Kung sa aton pa nga tinaga, para wala na ni sila palusot pa plantsahon ta ni maayo, di bla? Para kung kaksanay na, te kakas gid sila, wala na damo pa kuskus-balungos!

Spag wires are indeed eyesores but its not easy as if daw hari or rayna nga--dulaon ang ina nga spag wires overnight.
Heck, even Smallville still relies on overhead cables (which was supposed to be underground!)
It takes time, money and hard political will to have those existing spag wires buried. As for newer CBDs, they have a fighting chance to bury those.

insurgency is all about social inequality and injustice, this only shows that Panay Island is gaining ground in eliminating those aspects. LGU's and the National Gov't's different agencies are actually working on the ground.
kon may ara pa man bilin, that's because there are people that still believes that communism is the answer to their woes, but if you look at it, what country
as of today we could consider as a classic example of a society they are fighting for..North Korea and Cuba..

spacewagon0001 March 5th, 2011, 03:42 AM Senator sees river as asset of Iloilo
SEEING the Iloilo River as an asset to the city, Ilonggo Senator Franklin Drilon is doing his best to help the City Government preserve, rehabilitate and save the river, said a top official.
"It was also Senator Drilon who practically pushed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to send in a dredging machine to clean the river. Secretary Rogelio Singson has already ordered the deployment of a river dredging machine to this city by next week," said Congressman Jerry P. Treñas.
The lawmaker said he has gone abroad and saw the river as the focal site of tourism activities. River tours, in fact, are a big business in Berlin, Germany and Bangkok, Thailand, he added.
With this, Treñas said Drilon will lead the Iloilo River Summit on Saturday, March 5, at Hotel del Rio to be participated by city officials, river stakeholders and National Government agencies spearheaded by Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and the Iloilo River Development Council.
The summit will focus on the river development master plan and presentation of river programs and projects by Namria, DPWH, city environment office, and other agencies.
Treñas said he is going to attend the summit, adding his office is willing to help in whatever way to rehabilitate the Iloilo River. (Lydia C. Pendon)

spacewagon0001 March 5th, 2011, 03:44 AM Iloilo eyes strong partnership with Chinese city
ILOILO City is eyeing strong collaboration with Yulin City of China in a concrete partnership and testimony of friendship that will help find broad avenues leading to sustainable cultural and economic growth.
In a historic signing of a sisterhood agreement between the two cities last March 3 at the Amigo Terrace Hotel in Iloilo City, City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the Ilonggo society will continue to be enriched by Chinese friends and by the Filipino-Chinese community who are committed in helping the city grow and develop.
The twining ceremony of socio-economic and cultural collaboration between the two cities is the sixth agreement with other cities. It was also the second sisterhood pact by Iloilo City with a Chinese city, as it forged the same pact in 2009 with the city of Jing Dao.
Also in the past, Iloilo forged twinning relationship with Stockton, California, USA; Dededo, Guam, Honululu, Hawaii; and Makati City, Philippines.
Other five agreements were signed outside of Iloilo City.
Signatories in the sisterhood agreement with Yulin were Mabilog and Yulin Vice Mayor Jiang Gui Cheng.
A fellowship followed with other visitors from Yulin, namely: Director Huang Ge of Yulin Foreign Affairs Office and Director Chen Zhong Qiu of the Yuzhou Local Tax Bureau, other city government officials and city council members, and members of four Fil-Chinese organizations based in Iloilo.
Mabilog was supposed to go to Yulin in October 2010 but a strong typhoon hit China that led to cancellation of flights.
"It is our good fortune, however, that Yulin City's interest to formalize our twinning is as intense as ours. Today, let me proclaim that our bond will be a partnership that will help Iloilo City and Yulin City turn our most daunting challenges today into tomorrow's sure successes," Mabilog said.
The visiting Chinese officials extended an invitation to Mabilog and other city officials to visit Yulin City by October this year.
Mabilog said he will be bringing several Iloilo-based businessmen to Yulin to see the different economic strides of the Chinese city.
Yulin is best known for manufacturing products exported worldwide, such as fireworks and other pyrotechnics, porcelain ceramics, silk and other textiles and kitchen wares. (LCP)

spacewagon0001 March 5th, 2011, 03:49 AM Iloilo – Angeles liga ink ‘stratplan’ partnership on peace and order
By Florence F. Hibionada
ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – A unified council has been created to formulate working strategies for peace and order programs of the Iloilo Liga ng mga Barangay and counterparts with the Angeles City Liga.
Formalized in yesterday’s signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), sealing the partnership were Board Member Jeneda Salcedo Orendain for the Iloilo Liga and Councilor Joseph Demapilis for the Angeles City Liga.
It was to the day’s highlight of the 3-day Liga congress here dubbed “Peace and Order Summit.”
“We in the Liga recognize our basic responsibility in planning and formulating policies, programs, projects and activities for the community being the basic political unit of government. We honor our roles as foundation of the Republic. With that in mind, we are happy to forge this linkage with Angeles City Liga ng mga Barangay having been cited by the national government for its best practices in peace and order program. Our unified council will provide the much-needed mechanism for an effective collaboration and assistance in line with said mandate,” Iloilo President and Iloilo Board Member Salcedo-Orendain explained.
The partnership as envisioned will be “an active inter-federation partnership” called “Iloilo – Angeles City LNB Partnership on Peace and Order and Development.”
Under the Agreement, both parties are tasked to formulate common plans, programs and projects with emphasis on the promotion of peace and order and barangay development. Both shall also share existing programs and projects as well as the best practices in respective areas for adoption of respective barangays.
The MOA ensures the establishment of a system that would be the venue for “true exchange of ideas, programs and information relating to barangay development.”
Meantime, Iloilo delegates had a briefing on Angeles City’s peace and order strategies that are in place and recognized by the national government as “Best Practice.” Police Senior Superintendent Melchor V. Reyes apprised the group of the proven and sustainable policies that have since worked for this bustling city.
Plenary sessions also include extensive look and discussion on laws governing peace and order in the community.
“We are optimistic of our gains here that we are set to replicate in our barangays,” Salcedo-Orendain said.
This year’s Liga congress is the biggest in terms of turnout of delegates. First to register were Liga officials from the Municipality of Dueñas while the biggest delegation came from the Municipality of Leon. Perfect attendance on the other hand came from barangay officials of Ajuy, Passi City and the Municipality of San Rafael.

spacewagon0001 March 5th, 2011, 03:52 AM Employment opportunities for Ilonggos in Yulin, China
By Tara Yap
ILONGGOS are seen to have bigger employment opportunities in the southern Chinese city of Yulin after Iloilo City formally inked a sisterhood agreement.
“We are looking into the possible employment of qualified Ilonggos,” said Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
He explained that Iloilo shares a pool of manpower in similar industries including pyrotechnics, ceramics, textile, and electronic communications.
The mayor assured that Iloilo is ready to provide highly skilled workers in these shared industries.
“I even discovered Yulin is one of the top producers of fireworks in China. We have our own fireworks industry here in Arevalo district. This only proves we have a lot in common,” Mabilog explained.
Aside from pyrotechnics, Iloilo has a long strong textile industry and was once considered as the textile capital of the Philippines. Iloilo produces fabrics such as hablon, sinamay, patadyong, silk, and piña.
Ilonggos are also strong in information and electronics communications technology as it is one of the favorite destinations for business process outsourcing (BPO) companies.
“This partnership is for sustainable and cultural growth and not of convenience of just one city, but of opportunities that is favorable for all,” Mabilog stressed.
Yulin Vice Mayor Jiang Gui Cheng has high expectations that both cities will be able to strengthen its socio-economic ties in sharing manpower.
Yulin officials are also looking into possible investments in Iloilo.
Among the businesses sites they visited were the Iloilo Commercial Port Complex, the flour factory of La Filipina Uygongco Corp., the entertainment district of Smallville, and the soon-to-be information technology business park of Megaworld.
Meanwhile, Iloilo City officials and Ilonggo Filipino-Chinese businessmen are set to visit Yulin this October.

spacewagon0001 March 5th, 2011, 03:55 AM ILOILO RIVER SUMMIT TODAY
By Lydia C. Pendon
ILONGGO Senator Franklin M. Drilon sees the Iloilo River as an asset to Iloilo City and he is doing his best to help the city government preserve, rehabilitate and save the river.
This was the opinion of Rep. Jerry P. Treñas regarding the efforts of the senator to rehabilitate and preserve the river.
He said he has gone abroad and saw many rivers as focal sites of tourism activities and river tours that thrive as big business in Berlin, Germany and Bangkok, Thailand.
“It was also Senator Drilon who practically pushed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to send in a dredging machine to clean the river. Secretary Rogelio Singson has already ordered the deployment of a river dredging machine to this city by next week,” Treñas said.
Drilon will lead the Iloilo River Summit today at Hotel del Rio to be participated in by city officials, river stakeholders, national government agencies, and the Iloilo River Development Council.
The summit will focus on the river development master plan and presentation of river programs and projects by Namria, DPWH, city ENR office, proposed Iloilo river marina by the river council, DENR, Cenro and Penro, EMB and complementary plans for the river by Architect Paolo Alcazaren.
FISHERMEN TO DEMOLISH FISHPENS BEFORE DEADLINE
OPERATORS have assured Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog that they will personally demolish their own fishpens and fishtraps at the Iloilo River before the deadline on March 15 the mayor set.
Nestor Tribunal, recognized head of the river fishpen operators association, said they will demolish their fish contraptions but complained that the P10,000 financial assistance to be given by the city government is not enough, considering the high cost of living and the dislocation of their livelihood.
A total of 73 fishpen operators from North and South San Jose in Molo district formed the initial batch of those to be given assistance to help them start other livelihood projects such as a trisikad, sari-sari store or fish trading at the city fishing port complex.
Mabilog said the financial aid is at par with the national government’s assistance to displaced overseas Filipino workers OFWs) who came home because of the war in Libya.
He said the fishpen operators can still fish using hook line and sinker or use fishnets and a boat to catch fish at the river. But they should not use fine mesh nets to catch the small fish fries.

spacewagon0001 March 5th, 2011, 03:57 AM Capitol, BFAR ink pact on freshwater hatchery
THE Province of Iloilo and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-6 March 2 signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the operation of the P3.5-million Multi-Species Freshwater Hatchery at the Iloilo Rehabilitation Center compound in Brgy. Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo.
Governor Arthur Defensor Sr., BFAR regional director Drusila Esther Bayate, Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Ildefonso Toledo, and Provincial Fishery Office in-charge Edna Janeo signed the MOA witnessed by BFAR and Provincial Agriculture Office officials.
Bayate said the project aims to make the province of Iloilo self-sufficient as regards the culture and propagation of catfish, tilapia, pangasius and other fresh-water fishes.
Defensor welcomed the BFAR project and vowed to extend full support to it.
“With our commitment and dedication, I expect this project to be a model not only in the entire province of Iloilo but the whole of Region 6,” Defensor said.
“Please don’t take this as a run-of-the-mill undertaking... we have lost a lot when it comes to our natural resources but there is still hope... all we need is our commitment to restore whatever we can restore in so far as our agriculture and fisheries is concerned,” he added.
BFAR and the provincial government currently have a collaborative fisheries project at the IRC compound which involves the culture of Pangasius hypopthalmus.
The agency also maintains several freshwater demonstration fishfarms in the area. (ECGarcia/Capitol News)

Green Core deal to boost Iloilo electricity supply
By Amy R. Remo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 20:34:00 03/04/2011
Filed Under: Energy, Electricity Production & Distribution, business
GREEN CORE Geothermal Inc., a subsidiary of geothermal leader Energy Development Corp., has been granted an approval for its power supply agreement with an electric cooperative, a move seen to help lower power costs in Iloilo.
In its order, the Energy Regulatory Commission has provisionally approved Green Core’s agreement with Iloilo I Electric Cooperative Inc. (Ileco) as it was seen to benefit consumers in terms of continuous, reliable, efficient and affordable power supply.
According to ERC, the provisionally approved basic generation charge under the 13-year power supply agreement was pegged at P5.0336 per kilowatt-hour.
The final generation cost, however, will still be determined by the ERC. As such, in the event that the rates provisionally approved are found to be higher than the final rates, the excess amount shall be refunded by Ileco I to its customers by crediting it to their electric bills.
Under the power supply agreement, Ileco 1 was assured of a 3-megawatt supply from 2010 to 2012 and 18 MW annually from 2012 to 2022. Ileco I’s franchise area covered 15 municipalities in Iloilo.
Green Core is sourcing the electricity it is supplying to Ileco from its 112.5-MW Tongonan 1 in Leyte and 192.5-MW Palinpinon geothermal power plants in Negros Oriental, which it won in a bidding held by the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. in 2009.
Aside from Ileco I, Green Core has also signed long-term power supply contracts with nine other electric cooperatives in the Visayas.
These were Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative Inc. (Noreco II); Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco); and Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco).
Mayo ni kay maski may sarili ta nga power plant may competensya paguid... tani mag barato paguid ang kuryente...

The source (facebook page) is not working.
What's that warehouse-looking building beside it? With the advent of high-rise buildings along Diversion Road, that warehouse is out of place.
Now its time to beautify diversion road. A well-landscaped island will be nice. And it's not too late to plant broad-leafed trees (preferably acacia) maybe a meter off the edge of the sidewalk on both sides. In 15-20 years time, it will make a big difference.
IMPRESARIO March 5th, 2011, 11:36 PM ^^that's SM's warehouse.
habagatcentral1 March 6th, 2011, 12:05 AM Those electric posts in the Diversion Road should be at least buried. If not, move them to decent electric poles not within the island itself. It should complement the birth of a new central business district that is Mandurriao.

habagatcentral1 March 6th, 2011, 12:37 AM Another reason why I am so elated about this development...Iloilo's changes are surprising. The market, which was said to be "unready" is looking indeed ready. Also, the fact that Iloilo invests so much with low to mid-rise buildings due to the issue of soil stability just makes this first skyscraper a landmark in Iloilo City's skyline.
She is the first one to break the mid-rise barrier in the city. :okay:

it's our time to shine... congratulations to our beloved city. despite the progress, more work needs to be done in enticing more investors to come to the city. investments in the fields of heavy industries, BPOs, tourism, health care, education, etc... it just feels good, that our local businessmen are aggressively leading the way, instead being supporting actors in iloilo's economic growth. go iloilo! and onward to become a premier city by the year 2015! the task seems daunting, but with faith, love for our city, and concrete actions - we will move mountains. let's go for the kill. no space for complacency.:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:

What a beauty! It is still underconstruction yet you cannot deny the majestic appeal and imposing ways of the New Iloilo City Hall. ;)
Once the statue (lin-ay) is in place and the lighting is done, it will simply make it elegant at night and a jewel by the day.
How I wish they will also improve the Aduana. If the Queen (New Iloilo City Hall) is beautiful, the Princess (Aduana) need not be, but at least be presentable. They should complement each other.
I would like to appeal to Mayor JPM to do something about the Aduana, clean her up, do some restoration or a bit of renovation. Many thanks. :)

First off, THANK YOU SILKY being the first one to post the render and to the rest. :okay::applause:
Ah finally Injap 21 is here! And its elegant!:banana::banana:
What a wonderful way to wake up in the morning with this render!
In a way this is a strong statement and a testament that Iloilo City is now ready for high rises. That no soil is unstable for a deep pocket. That this could be done and the Iloilo market is all along ripe for this kind of development.
This will change Diversion road as we know it. This simply signals the arrival of Iloilo in high rise. I am certain that this will not be the first high rise from Injap. And of course, 'others' are definitely watching (esp once pre-selling starts)... exciting days ahead. By 'others' I mean SMDC, ALI, RLC, MW, Florete Land etc.
Indeed, Iloilo City is waking up to a new dawn. :)
habagatcentral1 March 6th, 2011, 01:00 AM Tuod guid nga if you really are to aim for your dream, may direksyon man guid imo pangabuhi--biskan damu challenges nga maagi. Yeah, I may be irritated when some of us are bitterly-holding with that "Reyna" title, but that is where determination (for some) comes from. The Premiere City by 2015 is a roadmap to progress...which then asks me, what is the current PROVINCIAL administration's goals are for the provincia?
However, I hope the engineers of Injap Tower should be well aware of Iloilo City's soil composition and they should not take for granted that Iloilo has been visited by some powerful earthquakes in the past. The soil may prolong the shocks way beyond the usual few seconders and may even amplify it due to liquefaction--especially long-period earthquakes.

Meanwhile, Iloilo City officials and Ilonggo Filipino-Chinese businessmen are set to visit Yulin this October.

in other words migo tama ka mahal...yes it's clean. but our country can't afford that technolgy yet..but you should remember at 20% efficiency, a 100watts solar panel can't deliver that much power, well at 20% it should be 20watts per panel.
Kung ang priority siguro solar, ma afford eh. Depende na gani sa priority! And you have to sacrifice some other things.
Kung tam-an gid ka cloudy, siguro butang ta 10%-15% lang efficiency nya kag lesser than 225 watts ang ouput nya(thats the time I pulled back energy from the grid if I need it). Now ang akon average nga kinahanglan per month sang kuryente is 6.750kW.
Indi man pwede nga ang isa ka solar panel rated at 225watts with 100% efficiency output nya is 1kw? amo na?
Daw indi amo na. Sa liwat , basaha maayo.
kon rated sya at 1kw at 100% efficiency ideally 1kw output nya same sa 225w syempre output is 225w..ok?
NO. 100% efficient lang sya to convert light from the sun but the output is constant and it should be more 225 watts for a 100% effiency. For 100% efficiency output should be 1kW or more and for a 225 watts output it should be less than 100% efficient rating. It's not proportional!
Let's say your solar panels rated at 225w has an efficiency of 30% then ang output nya na is 67.5 watts.Indi pa efficient ang solar panel subong so indi pa viable.Gasto na magput up migo. It does not mean nga kon rated na sya amo guid na output nya, maski sa generators amo man na, may power loss na migo, that's why ang solar energy daku guid need mo inorder to generate enough power kag mga power provider wala gainvest sang amo na nga system.
hehe. Kalaba mag backread ba...Budlay gid intindihon haw? It don't work that way! Kung 18% lang to ang na pruduce ya, do you think I'm paying this low on my monthly electric bills? Do you think I'm stupid to pay $44, 000 to the company who installs my solar panels and still pay the remaining 82% electricity that I consumed every month because my panel produce only 18% of 6.750kW. Think about it.

In 15-20 years time, it will make a big difference.
that's SM Warehouse. And I totally agree with you. I hope they'll make a tree-lined Diversion Road to complement the changing skyline of Iloilo City courtesy by the new CBDs along and adjacent to Diversion area.
We'll wait for more announcements of new projects in Diversion.:banana::banana::banana::banana:
true blue ilonggo March 6th, 2011, 01:52 AM Iloilo City opens areas for possible investments to China’s Yulin City
ILOILO CITY, March 2 (PNA) – Officials from Yulin City in China will have themselves familiarized with the investment potentials of this city as part of preliminary activities before the signing of an agreement to finalize their twinning with Iloilo City.
The Chinese delegation, composed of Vice Mayor Jiang Gui Cheng of Yulin City, Director Huang Ge of Yulin Foreign Affairs Office and Director Chen Zhong Qiu of Yuzhou Local Tax Bureau, is arriving in this city Wednesday evening.
The following day they will be touring this city’s economic projects and possible sites to include the Wheat Factory in Lapuz District, Iloilo Commercial Port Complex, Megaworld, Smallville and the site of the new city hall.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the city government is looking forward to establish an export processing zone in front of the Iloilo Commercial Port Complex.
“There is no commitment but it’s more on the familiarization of Iloilo City and its potentials for possible investments,” he said.
Meanwhile, the mayor said Yulin may offer possible economic activities and employment opportunities to this city while the latter has its English speaking skills and manpower to offer as a result of their sister city agreement.
The memorandum of agreement (MOA) will be signed Thursday evening.
The inking of the accord was supposed to be held in Yulin City last year but the bad weather condition prevented the travel of Mabilog and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) head Allan Zaldivar to China.
This year, Yulin officials announced their intention to visit Iloilo to seal the agreement.
”We really see in them the sincerity and interest to have us for their sister city,” Mabilog said.
Mabilog explained that one factor that could have boosted their interest is this city’s strong Chinese lineage.
Meantime, he announced that the Filipino-Chinese community associations here have been involved in the preparation process starting from the welcoming of the delegation. (PNA)

spacewagon0001 March 6th, 2011, 02:24 AM Another reason why I am so elated about this development...Iloilo's changes are surprising.
:okay:
totally agree --- such an awesome development indeed!
This project will surely add to the exciting developments happening around the city and province of Iloilo. Iloilo City is indeed lucky to have Injap around. This will surely not the last of InjapLand's projects. Expect more coming from the booming real estate company of Mr. Sia! He's definitely taking Iloilo and the rest of the country by surprise. true blue ilonggo March 6th, 2011, 02:33 AM Tuod guid nga if you really are to aim for your dream, may direksyon man guid imo pangabuhi--biskan damu challenges nga maagi.
The soil may prolong the shocks way beyond the usual few seconders and may even amplify it due to liquefaction--especially long-period earthquakes.
biskan ako man berns... may title or wala ok lang. importante, we could uplift the lives of the ilonggos and our fellow filipinos as a whole. ang belligerent attitude ko, ga gwa man lang na if may naga sulod sa thread ta bala kag mag put down sa aton, kag daw kita pa bala ang i lecturan nila. hehehe.
regarding sa gov ta, i don't know if what are his plans for the province... in my point of view, the city is speeding on a fast lane, while the province naman is doing a U-turn. just totally out-of-sync from the city's roadmap to progress. we all want to industrialize, but then we cannot abandon, the agricultural setup of iloilo's countryside, and that's the dilemma. just look at the surrounding areas of iloilo's new airport, and all you can see are arable agricultural lands. now, any move to put to industrialize these areas, would send a wrong signal for conversions of more agricultural lands to industrial/commercial use in the future. these kinds of moves, could adversely affect the province's status as the regional food basket, and the consequences could be grave. that's why i think, the province should also have a roadmap - a roadmap, that would complement the goals and thrusts of the city.
Nag ano pre, nag patransplant kag nag pa botox? hahaha.

The efficiency of commercial solar cell is between 15 to 24 percent. But this pertains to how much of sun's energy is converted to electrical energy. The tangible value to end users is how much Watts it produces. Solar cells are usually labeled at maximum peak power at full sunlight. That is around 200 W on full-sunlight and at the right angles to the sun. It is maximum at around noon, and produces less energy at other parts of the day.
As you mentioned: you need at least 7 solar panels to power a single household. Solar panels cost at least a hundred thousand here (or more) - Im not sure with the cost. You will also need batteries to store electricity for your low light period (morning, afternoon, night), plus other auxilliaries. This will cost you more than a million here to power your home not dependent on the grid. This is used on remote islands but not practical on areas connected to the grid. Unless pirmi lang ga-brownout nga gusto mo na lang guid maging independent sa power distributor.
...just read my answers in the previous thread. I know it costs a lot but only to some years. After you paid it off, then the time the cost of your monthly elecricity bills would probably be doubled. Pareho man diri sa States. Indi man tanan maka pa solar diri. That's why naghatag ang California sang rebates kag ang Federal sang 30%(of the actual cost)tax incentives. This rebates will slashed the price into half of the actual cost. Pero gamay man gihapon nag take advantages maybe because of economic crisis. Ang warranty is 25 years but the life span is 50 years. Sa mga newly built diri nga houses sa subdivision, ang iban nga builder, gina include na nila ang solar panel.
Sa mga remote island, kinahanglan mo gid mag purchased sang battery to store power to use it at night. But waay na ina gina practice diri sa States beacuse of the cyanide in it. Kinahanglan malayo sa balay mo ang battery kung may ara ikaw and then ang maintenance.

THE 10 units of electric jeeps will start their operation around Iloilo City as soon as possible.
Their plates and registration papers have already been delivered to the city government.
According to Mayor Jed Mabilog, the donated electric jeeps will immediately service students and senior citizens free of charge.
Iloilo Press Club President and business tycoon Rommel Ynion, who is known for his philanthropic acts, donated the brand new e-jeeps worth P8 million.

spacewagon0001 March 6th, 2011, 02:51 AM Iloilo River fishers to demolish fish pens
ILOILO City – Iloilo River fish pen operators assured Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog that they will demolish their fish pens and traps from the Iloilo River before the deadline on March 15.
But Nestor Tribunal, recognized head of the River Fish Pen Operators Association, said the P10,000 financial assistance promised to them by the city government would not be enough, citing the high cost of living.
A total of 73 fish pen operators from the north and south San Jose in Molo district form the initial batch to be given assistance to help them start other livelihoods such as trisikad, sari-sari store or fish trading at the city fishing port complex.
Mabilog said the financial aid is at par with the national government’s assistance to displaced overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who came home because of the war in Libya.
The city mayor further said fish pen operators can still fish at the river using hook line and sinker or use fish nets and boat, but they should not use fine mesh nets.
On the other hand, Cong. Jerry Treñas said he is willing to help the displaced fishermen in their livelihood projects.
The first batch of beneficiaries will receive their financial assistance within this month, the city mayor said.
Fish pens and fish traps impede the flow of the river and cause siltation.
Mabilog said siltation kills the river and contributes largely to flooding of low lying areas of the city.
The city government will soon develop a one-kilometer river stretch from the Jalandoni Bridge to Drilon Bridge as a tourist destination and water sports area.:banana::banana::banana::banana:
Removal of illegal structures has started and establishments and residences along the riverbanks were given notices to vacate and provide river easement of at least three meters.
The river, actually an arm of the sea, is a major waterway of the city and home to hundreds of mangroves and fish species. (With a report from Philippine News Agency/PN)

This will surely not the last of InjapLand's projects. Expect more coming from the booming real estate company of Mr. Sia! He's definitely taking Iloilo and the rest of the country by surprise. true blue ilonggo March 6th, 2011, 03:31 AM Iloilo River fishers to demolish fish pens
(With a report from Philippine News Agency/PN)

i'm sure this injap tower will inspire other iloilo-based as well as other filipino billionaires to put up their own signature commercial landmark that could rival the height. which brings us back to this building. the 21 storey structure will inspire other structures of near, equal, or taller heights. 8 to 15 years down the road, could we see more of these credible rises lining and dotting the diversion and iloilo river areas? that's a sweet guesswork. good morning iloilo.

Tag pila ni ang mga unit prices sini man? And ang mga different kinds of units available?
Tani may ma post diri sa site na ini kay daw interesado ako mag bakal... It would be a nice to lease out a few units to the BPO workers in nearby SMCity and the Ayala Technohub.
From what I have observed na daan, a large portion of the call center agents in iloilo city do not reside in the city itself, some are coming from Miag-ao, from Sta. Barbara, from Pavia, even as far as Lambunao. I know this because may ara kami boarding house and some of our boarders are call center agents.
The reason why they lease a bed space sa boarding houses is because kakapoy mag commute from iloilo city to the above mentioned places on a daily basis. Can you imagine not having sleep yet and then at early in the morning you have to catch a jeepney ride to pototan, to oton or to wherever? Kapoy eh. So, for convenience, some of these call center agents choose to rent a bed space in boarding houses for a place to sleep during the day.
The problem is, boarding houses are populated by students and the two groups (students and call center agents) have different needs and different lifestyles. Magahod ang mga boarding houses during the day because some students choose to eat their lunch or do their projects or just hang out in the boarding houses when they have breaks, usually, noontime. This creates conflicts with call center agents because they need the entire day to be asleep and not be bothered. They can't rest as much as they want.
At least, if they have their separate pads, they can rest as much as they want without being disturbed. And they can rest in peace pa becuase there will be no student-roomate of theirs who will be coming and going in their shared rooms, bringinng along friends or classmates who might steal the belongings of these sleeping agents.
Also, Call center agents have the spending power to lease out an entire condo unit because they have relatively high disposable income, plus if they will share a room, makatipid pa sila. For example, if a unit for rent costs about 8,000 pesos per month, this can be rented by four agents at just 2,000 pesos per month. ok na, pwede na. Makatipid pa ini sa pliti sa jeep/bus/van pakadto-papuli sa ila na mga respective towns.
So any information about injap's commercial-residential tower that will be posted here in this forum will be of big help to investors and OFWs alike.
Tani may maka post gid diri about their rates and specs, salamat gid!

puwede gid tuod. Pero daw ka gamay sang suweldo kung 8,000 per month lang ang bayad sang call center agent. I'm thinking a call center agent is receiving not less than 20,000per month? Hmmm...

Space, the 8,000 figure refers to the monthly rate of one condo unit. This is just a rough estimate for a provincial condo. For manila condos, the minimum is 10k per month.
Also for the wages of a call center agent in metro manila, it's still possible for an agent to earn 20,000 per month. But here in the provinces, the rate is much lower, so perhaps, our agents earn anywhere between 15k to 18k per month. Just a rough guess ah.
habagatcentral1 March 6th, 2011, 07:50 AM ^^ The lowest was around P8,000 per month in Iloilo 2 years ago. Most likely its 10K at minimum as of the moment. Condo living is still expensive for yuppies except if they have their own companions in the units or flats to share the expenses.

another thing to look forward to in iloilo.
spacewagon0001 March 6th, 2011, 10:08 AM Space, the 8,000 figure refers to the monthly rate of one condo unit.
^^ The lowest was around P8,000 per month in Iloilo 2 years ago. Most likely its 10K at minimum as of the moment. Condo living is still expensive for yuppies except if they have their own companions in the units or flats to share the expenses.
thanks for sharing the infos, Kalth and Bernie. I'm thinking nga ang suweldohanay sang mga call agents across the board ie across the archipelago pero indi gali. Anyhow, two or three agents puwede gid sa isa ka unit. Now, that Hinduja will start its operation plus the rumoured expansion of 2 call centers in Plazuela de Iloilo, puwede gid. Dako gid ni mahatak niya nga spending capacity and power para sa mga bag-o nga projects sa Iloilo City.
Hala Bira ILOILO !!!

:)
^^amo lang ni comment ko ah, humble ta ya daan.
--------
by the end of 2011, 2 na ka structures ang very prominent sa iloilo skyline (cityhall and injap tower) if gapasulod ka pa lang from guimaras. when completed, officially dethroned na ang skycity tower building ni florete nga headquarters ka bombo kag Iloilo business hotel sa pataas-taas.
the contrast of MODERN (Injap Tower) and the CLASSIC (City Hall) architectures -- baskog gid! Amo ni manami sa Iloilo kay ang fusion sang Past-Present-and-Future makita mo gid kung maglibot-libot ka sa ciudad kag probinsiya.:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: Manubo lang ang City Hall but it'll surely dominates the Downtown Iloilo / Old City Proper. The statue of a Lady will give a needed boost and majesty to the new City Hall !

regarding sa gov ta, i don't know if what are his plans for the province... in my point of view, the city is speeding on a fast lane, while the province naman is doing a U-turn. just totally out-of-sync from the city's roadmap to progress. we all want to industrialize, but then we cannot abandon, the agricultural setup of iloilo's countryside, and that's the dilemma. just look at the surrounding areas of iloilo's new airport, and all you can see are arable agricultural lands. now, any move to put to industrialize these areas, would send a wrong signal for conversions of more agricultural lands to industrial/commercial use in the future. these kinds of moves, could adversely affect the province's status as the regional food basket, and the consequences could be grave. that's why i think, the province should also have a roadmap - a roadmap, that would complement the goals and thrusts of the city.
biskan ano lang pre ah... pwede transplant, pwede botox. example lang na, kung sang una mahilig ka mga nike air jordan nga rubber shoes, since nag damo kwarta mo, gusto mo naman mag try suksok sang nine west or celine. mga amo na bala nga plastada haw... amo na hambal nila pre, budlay guid man kung ga damo kwarta mo, kay kung kis-a, ga ka dalman ka.

Iloilo River fishers to demolish fish pens
[I]The city government will soon develop a one-kilometer river stretch from the Jalandoni Bridge to Drilon Bridge as a tourist destination and water sports area.:banana::banana::banana::banana:
Removal of illegal structures has started and establishments and residences along the riverbanks were given notices to vacate and provide river easement of at least three meters.
The river, actually an arm of the sea, is a major waterway of the city and home to hundreds of mangroves and fish species. (With a report from Philippine News Agency/PN)

zynet March 6th, 2011, 07:01 PM Iloilo City being eyed as investment site of Yulin
Officials of Yulin City in China will explore the potential of Iloilo City as a possible investment site when they tour the place tomorrow, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.
“Officials from Yulin will not just be here for the signing of our sisterhood agreement but also to look into our construction and economic situation,” he added.
The Chinese delegation is composed of Vice Mayor Jiang Gui Cheng of Yulin City, Director Huang Ge of Yulin Foreign Affairs Office, and Director Chen Zhong Qiu of Yuzhou Local Tax Bureau.
Iloilo City and Yulin will sign an agreement sealing their “twinning relationship” on Thursday night after going around the city in the morning.
Some of the economic and business centers they will visit are the wheat factory in Lapuz, La Paz; Iloilo Commercial Port Complex; and Megaworld property and the city’s nightspot, Smallville, both in Mandurriao district.
They will also visit the ongoing construction of the seven-storey new city hall building in Plaza Libertad.
Mabilog said he is particularly hopeful that Yulin can help in the expansion of the Iloilo Commercial Port Complex which is being eyed by the city government as an export processing zone.
“We expect to get mutual benefits from this familiarization visit,” he said, citing the educational, livelihood and job opportunities that both cities can gain from the sisterhood agreement.
Meanwhile, the city government has tapped the help of four big Filipino-Chinese associations in Iloilo City in welcoming the Yulin officials.
The organizations that will also play host to the foreign guests are the Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce-Panay, Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Panay and the Iloilo Multi-Sectoral Business Association.
Mabilog said “the strong Chinese lineage of Iloilo City is one big factor that gave interest to Yulin in forging economic and cultural ties with us.”*

zynet March 6th, 2011, 07:21 PM Senator sees river as asset of Iloilo
(Lydia C. Pendon)

spacewagon0001 March 6th, 2011, 11:55 PM without a doubt ... Franklin Drilon should be given honour by Iloilo City Government. I have very high respect with Drilon, probably more than anyone Ilonggo officials in the country to date. I'm all for D' BigFrank.:cheers::cheers:
spacewagon0001 March 6th, 2011, 11:57 PM What are Iloilo City’s priorities?
WE are back to Iloilo after a three month’s absence, but we do not seem to see much change except for the Plazuela de Iloilo building complex which has now been completed.
Unfortunately, although ready for occupancy, the buildings are not yet fully tenanted.
With such a multi-million project, we are surprised that the owners did not look for tenants first before they poured their money into the construction. Well, that is their private business. Maybe they have their own way of running things by putting up the buildings to display first before they get them occupied. In Metro Manila, they sell or lease out thousands of condo units every year even before the construction has started.
Of course, we noted that our new multi-storied city hall building is almost finished and we are glad to learn of more projects that Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has lined up to be done this year.
They are:
1) rehabilitation of the Iloilo City public market, downtown Iloilo at J.P. Rizal and Iznart Sts., and the Iloilo Supermarket fronting De Leon and Mabini Streets; Fort San Pedro Terminal and construction of the Guimaras-Iloilo Boat Station; and the c) Slaughterhouse;
2) widening of Diversion Road from Jaro Bridge to Leganes;
3) road project in Balantang, Jaro;
4) Iloilo City Community College construction;
5) building of Sports Complex for Iloilo City; and
6) sale of failed Pavia Housing Project.
Except for the Iloilo City Community College which has a construction budget funded from a donation of young philanthropist, Edgar (Injap) Sia of Mang Inasal fame, where are the funds for the other projects coming from?
On the public markets, we understand that funding will be raised using the PPP (Private-Public Partnership) scheme that the national government is trying to introduce. In this case then, it will be better if a project study on each item is done first so it will be easier to present the idea to interested parties.
We would like to comment now on Item 5 which is the construction of a sports complex for Iloilo City. There is the problem here of the costly maintenance of such a facility. Has this been studied?
The Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz District owned by the provincial government within the city’s jurisdiction is open to the public, and certainly we can avail ourselves of the facilities anytime. Why will the city need to construct one of its own?
As to Item 6 which is the sale of the failed Pavia Housing Project, does it mean that the contractor’s claim on the aborted project has been settled? If it was, then what were the terms?
This is an important case which the city mayor should let us know as his Boss, especially that there were attendant anomalies that caused the bogging down of the project.
Meantime, we are glad that the solution to the Iloilo River problem appears to be more defined now with the leadership and intervention of our very own Sen. Franklin M. Drilon. Last Saturday, he came all the way from Manila to meet with the various river stakeholders at a local hotel here led by Mayor Mabilog to thresh out the perennial problems in the river body.
The most urgent problems of the city, however, have remained unsolved: power, water and the traffic. We thought the power problem was solved with the new coal power plant in operation, but we still experienced a brownout at NHA Village in Mandurriao district last week.
We will write about these issues in our next column. (For comments or reactions, please e-mail to jnoveracompany@yahoo.com)/PN

spacewagon0001 March 6th, 2011, 11:59 PM Sports complex ready
before WVRAA – capitol
ILOILO City -- The provincial government of Iloilo has given assurance that the Iloilo Sports Complex -- main venue of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet -- will be ready before March 20.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr., who will play host to this year’s WVRAA, said preparations are now underway with the more than 3,000 athletes and delegates expected to participate.
The governor has released P15 million for the repair and rehabilitation of the Iloilo Sports Complex facilities aside from the P15 million intended for the repair of the gymnasium.
The resurfacing of the rubberized oval track has already started.
Iloilo Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Raymundo Lapating said all provinces in Western Visayas are expected to join the WVRAA.
The sports meet opens on March 20.
Defensor said 15 sports events will be staged at the Iloilo Sports Complex, La Paz Plaza, Central Philippine University, West Visayas State University, SM City Iloilo, Gaisano City Mall, and Robinsons Place Iloilo. (PNA)

Pototan to host P3.5-million
freshwater multi-species hatchery
BY JEZZA NEPOMOCENO
ILOILO – To boost the province’s fishery production, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will establish a P3.5-million satellite freshwater multi-species hatchery in Brgy. Nanga, Pototan town.
BFAR Regional Director Drusila Esther Bayate and Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. signed a memorandum of agreement for its establishment recently.
Provincial Agriculture Office chief Idelfonso Toledo, Provincial Administrator Raul Banias and other officials from BFAR witnessed the agreement signing.
BFAR will provide the necessary funds for the building, the needed facilities such as the hatchery, nursery and other grow-out facilities.
The project is expected to be complete within this year and upon completion, the agency will turnover its management and operation to the provincial government.
Bayate said they have seen the potential of freshwater species like tilapia, freshwater shrimp, catfish and pangasius in fishing industry, thus, there is a need to enhance their productivity.
“To attain self-sufficiency, we have to ensure continuous production as far as our marine and aquatic resources is concerned,” Bayate said.
BFAR has also developed a simplified protocol of producing freshwater species fry in a scale that would sustain the requirement for the freshwater species in the province.
Bayate said the main purpose of the project is to produce fry and other juvenile requirements of growers of freshwater fishes here and in nearby areas.
The project is timely, said Defensor.
“We are embarking in a province-wide coastal resource management and conservation through the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO),” he said./PN

METROPOLITAN_ILOILO March 7th, 2011, 01:48 AM Iloilo River fishers to demolish fish pens
(With a report from Philippine News Agency/PN)

habagatcentral1 March 7th, 2011, 02:37 AM ^^ If that's the case, then Manila, Mexico City, Tokyo or London shouldn't have risen at all! All of them were built in swamplands. A documentary in NatGeo once said, "the tallest building here was brought in by revolution of culture and building standards." I'll emphasize more on the former since pessimism and skepticism lies in some of our fellow kasimanwas.
Indeed, its swampy, but its impossible that we don't have a stable bedrock beneath the silt.

WAngZY March 7th, 2011, 03:26 AM FILIPINO WOMEN ON TOP 100 INSPIRING LIST
Solon champion of women’s rights
By Nestor P. Burgos Jr.

ILOILO CITY—Like Sister Mary John Mananzan, Iloilo Rep. Janette Loreto-Garin thought at first that she got a spam e-mail.
The message said she had been honored as among the top 100 inspiring people in the world for advocating women’s rights. She later learned that it was for real.
Garin, along with Mananzan, was among 100 individuals honored by Women Deliver, a New York-based global organization advocating universal access to reproductive health services and the reduction of maternal mortality.
The Women Deliver 100 list of honorees, released on March 3 to mark the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day on March 8, cited women and men who have contributed to improving the lives of women around the world.
The list included Nobel Peace Prize recipients, activists, legislators, heads of states, philanthropists, writers, journalists, health workers and academicians.
“Many of the Women Deliver 100 honorees work amidst incredible adversity, without much fanfare and often without a light at the end of the tunnel. They are committed in their efforts to improve the lives of girls and women—whether through scientific discoveries, human rights campaigns, or the delivery of health services—because they believe in the value of women and girls,” Jill Sheffield, Women Deliver president and founder, said in a statement.
“They don’t count on recognition and they don’t count on an easy road, though they deserve it,” Sheffield added.
A 38-year-old doctor, Garin was cited for her advocacy on women’s reproductive rights as co-author of the Reproductive Health Care and Population Development bill in Congress.
Women Deliver said the bill “is poised to transform the lives of every woman in the Philippines” where 11 women die each day of preventable causes related to pregnancy or childbirth. It said the bill would, for the first time, provide universal access to family planning methods as well as comprehensive sex education in schools.
Women Deliver noted that in a “deeply religious country, where opposition to family planning and sex education runs strong,” Garin is a champion of women’s rights who is “fighting to bring both women and men the information and services they need to live, long healthy lives.”
So, how does it feel to be honored along with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, television host Oprah Winfrey, Melinda Gates and Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan?
“This very prestigious citation is the least of my expectations and I feel so honored and proud. This also encourages me to continue with my advocacy,” Garin told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Garin said she had been advocating women’s and children’s rights since she was a provincial chair of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation in Leyte in 1993.
A member of the prominent Loreto political clan, she relocated to Guimbal town in Iloilo in 1997 after she married Oscar “Richard” Garin Jr., now Iloilo vice governor. They have a 13-year-old daughter.
Garin, who served as provincial board member from 1998 to 2004, has been representative of Iloilo’s first congressional district since 2004. She has just completed her Master in Business Administration in Health at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.
A vocal proponent of the controversial reproductive health bill, Garin said she and many of her fellow advocates had proven that supporting the bill would not be “politically costly” amid the intense opposition by the Catholic Church.
“We have been criticized even at the pulpits. We have also been subject to the misinformation that as proponents of the bill, we are supporting abortion. But we have remained firm because this is for the interest of our women and their families,” Garin said.

Ah, just let them be. It serves as their inspiration. Maybe they should put that inspiration into good use rather than bashing on Cebú. Ako gani, wala na ko naghatag sa ila biskan kapila na nila ko gin-email. Nalainan lang ako sa pila nga aton nga kasimanwa nga wala naga-abri sa ila utok kay sirado na gid ila pamensaron.

Good point. :okay: The classic crab mentality as is --a negative aspect of our culture that the new generation of Filipinos should shrug off.
Now, on with discussing our events, developments, politics, culture and everything Iloilo. :D
WAngZY March 7th, 2011, 03:30 AM Sta Lucia Land to raise up to P200M via follow-on offer By Zinnia B. Dela Peña (The Philippine Star) Updated March 07, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (0)
MANILA, Philippines - Sta. Lucia Land, the listed property unit of the Sta. Lucia Group, is aiming to raise up to P200 million through a follow-on offering of shares in the fourth quarter this year or early 2012.
In a briefing with reporters, David M. Dela Cruz, senior vice president for Corporate Finance, said the company is looking to offer P100 million to P200 million worth of shares through a primary and secondary offering to fund new projects and expand its tourism and leisure-related assets.
Cruz said the company has tapped Asian Alliance & Investment Corp. as its financial advisor while UBS will serve as its international underwriter.
Sta. Lucia has earmarked P11 billion over a five-year period to put up new residential, office and commercial projects.
For this year, Sta. Lucia is hoping to launch over 3,600 residential units to take advantage of a buoyant property market.
Among its new projects include the Sta. Lucia Towers (located beside the Sta. Lucia mall along Marcos Highway), office buildings catering to the business process outsourcing sector.
The first two of the five-building Sta. Lucia Towers is slated for construction in the first quarter this year.
The Sta. Lucia Group has had a strong history of building quality projects having developed over 9,000 hectares of prime properties with over 200 projects nationwide.
It by far has served the middle income segment by providing residential units while tailor-fitting amortization schemes to make the units affordable without comprising quality. It also ventured into retail with its 180,000 GFA Sta Lucia Grand East Mall located in Cainta, Rizal which provides a steady stream of cash flows to the company.
With a formidable sales force of over 120,000, the group has been able to market and develop projects all over the country, with major developments in key areas within and outside Metro Manila such as Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, Iloilo, Baguio, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Subic, Bulacan and Pampanga.
SLI (formerly Zipporah Holdings) was formed in 2007 through a reverse takeover and has since, in addition to a portfolio of assets transferred by SLR, been highly successful in launching and delivering quality projects.

How can Mang Inasal sustain its success?

Your column on Mang Inasal’s success secret is still the continuing topic of our group’s conversations. We’re a foursome of Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Master in Entrepreneurship (ME) graduates and you taught our batch. There’s one question raised during our past two weekly gatherings that we all tried answering. But we heard as many different answers as there were members. So we thought we’d pass on the question to you: “Assuming it’s true that the five secrets you identified as responsible for Mang Inasal’s Edgar Injap Sia’s P3-billion success were correct, would these be the same five secrets that will sustain Mang Inasal’s future success with Jollibee Foods Corp. as its new owner?”
A: Conventional wisdom prescribes that to do a good job at managing the future do so via the success of the past. But experience tells us that navigating the future with this mindset has proven to be a recipe much more for disaster than for success. For a more enlightened answer, we need a more enlightening framework. Because we’re talking about the future, we need a better foresighting basis for diagnosing what can sustain Mang Inasal’s success under Jollibee.
A particularly appropriate foresighting framework is in micro-economics and another one in the literature on sustainable competitive advantage. We diagnose by taking each at a time.
It’s about ‘complementarities’
Stanford University professor of micro-economics and “auctionomics,” Paul Milgrom, coined the term “complementarities” to explain synergies from combining compatible business practices. In the case of Sia’s Mang Inasal, its sustained competitive advantage over the seven years when it scaled up to 303 stores came from not only repeating each one of its five secrets of success. The more significant factor was its maintaining the five practices’ complementarity role for one another in the mix. In fact, it’s more the mix that counted in the success than the individual elements in that mix.
Let’s recall those five factors and practices that were supposedly behind Mang Inasal’s superior competitive advantage. These are: (1) Ready, fire, aim!; (2) Work your butt off!; (3) Think innovation. Copy but add something of value; (4) Think BIG!; and (5) Think marketing.
We’ll skip the explanation of each and rely on your memory to remember the Mang Inasal column three Fridays ago (or check out www.marketingrx.org or www.inquirer.net.) But what needs underscoring at this point is that none of these five practices can be said to be anything new or innovative. So treated separately, not a single one of them can be claimed to be a success secret.
The application and exercise of complementarities have shown that business success such as Mang Inasal comes from Sia’s creativity. As the innovating entrepreneur, Sia had put to work each one of the five factors of success along with each of the other remaining five practices. For example, the surprising effectiveness of his peculiar but unknown way of combining “ready, fire, aim” with “work your butt off” yielded an outcome whose value was greater than the simple sum of the effectiveness of each of these two. There was synergy in the way Sia paired the two. And so it must have been with the rest of the mix of his five good but very ordinary business practices.
So is sustaining Mang Inasal’s success in the future just a matter of maintaining the complementarities of its five success secrets and practices? Aren’t complementarities just another way of saying you’re managing from the past? Isn’t this basically imitating the past?
It’s about Synergy and the ‘Mathematics of Probabilities’
There is some truth in saying this and that’s why we need to integrate into this discussion David Dranove’s thinking about sustainable competitive advantage. Dranove is professor of strategy at the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
Professor Dranove’s provocative thesis came from his analysis of numerous cases of synergy. According to him, you can gain extraordinary results from just mixing but in the right proportions or levels ordinary means. So suppose under Jollibee Foods’ system of doing marketing (in putting up in the next 300 more Mang Inasal stores) the new Mang Inasal is able to maintain practicing its five success secrets. Assume further that this continuation has a high probability of 70-percent success. Now, the chances of also successfully replicating all five practices in the way that Mang Inasal has done it in its first 303 stores is not going to be 70 percent.
Why 70 percent? That’s the ownership split under the acquisition and assuming that Jollibee Foods will allow the 30 percent owning Sia to have his way 70 percent of the time until the the time the number of stores reaches 300 more. Professor Dranove’s mathematics of probabilities predicts that the likelihood of maintaining the complementarities is 0.70 to the 5th power which equals 0.17 or 17 percent. So there’s just 17-percent chance that Mang Inasal will go on succeeding and repeat its success in its first 300 stores to be true for its next 300 more stores. That’s risking at less than even chance of winning!
What if there are not five but six secrets to Mang Inasal’s success? And what could the extra one secret be?
6th Secret
In Mang Inasal’s line of business, that’s choice of good location. Edgar Sia had the enviable knack of choosing the most suitable locations for his first and up to his 303rd store. That’s suitable with respect to his target customer segment. With six instead of five practices to maintain complementarities, the chances of future success goes down from 17 percent to 12 percent (= 0.70 to the 6th power).
But succeeding in the next 300 stores will mean that somewhere along the path toward the total 603 stores, Mang Inasal will have to shift from single market segment targeting to two or even multiple market segment targeting. That will impact the 70-percent success ratio and bring it down and therefore further bringing down the 12-percent success ratio.
All this is a form of foresighting according to marketing science. But even science is not foolproof. In fact, we hope Sia’s and the new Mang Inasal’s marketing art would remain superior over our marketing science. It’s a great marketing story to not have a happy ending.

same is true man na sa Bacolod. So subong kay layo na ang airport pwede na ka patindog little skyscraper amo man sa Bacolod. Subong nubo lang anay e.

arcabe March 7th, 2011, 04:13 AM Bien bien! It seems that you are a person that can be trusted regarding real estate. :okay:
So that would explain the booming subdivisions in Pavia? Damu na pangayaw abi, hehe! And also why do developers prefer to develop Pavia despite knowing its vulnerability to flooding (back then)?
I suggest we start marketing it online too...since a lot of overseas Ilonggos would invest in such things. :)
i smell money here...commission lang ko a...hehehehe!
but seriously, nagligad lang ko naglabay halin sa mandurriao lusot sa hibao-an pakadto sa amon sa Pavia. Damu na guid subdivision didto, gaulhot lang nga daw hilamon. :)
habagatcentral1 March 7th, 2011, 04:20 AM ^^ You can distinguish an original Pavia resident by this, siling nila. "Ang kamaan mag-Karay-a, amo man ang tumandok. Ang indi kamaan, pangayaw." LOL! :D
And regarding sa online marketing, that's just my suggestion. Indi ko mag-involve da, jejeje!! :D

is it necessary nga kelangan guid hambalon theirs are real because gastart na construction???
obviously the land area ni ijanp tabok SM gamay-gamay kaayo to make a complex or kung asta lng 6-8 floors pila lng ang ma accomodate...
i mean there is a start of the something big coming in our respective Cities, so this building of injap is our start for high-rises..
let it be!!!
Trigonometry101 March 7th, 2011, 04:44 AM ^^ If that's the case, then Manila, Mexico City, Tokyo or London shouldn't have risen at all!
Thats exactly whats been going through my mind lately sir. Paano nagka hirise sa Mexico City kay sigon sa kilala ko kapareho pareho lang kuno soil composition sang Iloilo kag Mexico City.
Maybe someone doesn't want Iloilo to progress so he made up this silly statement. Just my opinion lang.

Yup. Old timer banwa speakers and those who live in the outlying barrios speak Kinaray-a. However, the Kinaray-a in Pavia is not as deep as that of Alimodian and Miagao.
Its the people in northern coast that speaks Hiligaynon or Sinâ. Ang mga tawu sa interior kag sa south nga bahin, hambal Kinaray-a.

that's food for thought. tan-awon ta anay ang resulta sang condotel ni injap kun matapos na and we can go from there. proactively, court more major bpo players and consumer related establishments. what is the conspicuous economic profile of an ilonggo consumer as well as the present and future commercial needs of the city? proactively, waht can our businessmen and the local government could come up with?
for one thing, with regards to our profile, we are an ofw and seamen province. with the families left behind by these ofws, what are their needs? shopping is a captive market already. that's why SM succeeded in this part of the country. residential? well, that's already a given. BPOs are the new and still developing thing. so that's an impending market. food establishments. that is a minimal risk and almost surefire investment venture.
medical tourism and diagnostic facilities are things that can be exploited by these buildings. review centers. even schools and training centers. if international flights can be hosted by iloilo on a regular basis, then travel agencies can be one. banks can be another since the ilonggo economic profile is also bent on saving. you can add more, hehehe!

I agree with you, dapat well lighted kag panamion ang mga birdges, like the Forbes bridge, it has historical significance.
ang regarding marker, namion na lang nila, siguro i-engraved na lang sa brass metal kag itapik sa both approaches og=f the bridge daw parehas bla sang marker sang Phil Historical Commission - para ma-aros aros man gawa. - kag indi nga bilog nga side sang bridge pinturahan sang ila nga ngalan. . . siguro kung brass metal nga gamay lang, gamay lang ang gasto kag lasting pa kay sa pintura.
