Iloilo City seen to use solar power

Iloilo City could be among the few locations in the Philippines to utilize a clean and environment-friendly power source if the $100-million solar farm proposed by an Indian company in the city will push through.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he already had initial talks with officials of Apca Global Ltd. represented by Nikesh Sinha for the generation of 25 megawatts of solar energy between 2011 and 2012.

Solar power is most sought-after because it is clean and environment-friendly, the mayor said.

He added it is already widely used in the United States and in Europe and industries in the Philippines are starting to look for the unlimited power from the sun.

At present, Iloilo City is utilizing diesel and coal for its power needs supplied by Panay Power Corp. (PPC) and its sister company Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) through Panay Electric Company.

PPC operates a 72-megawatt diesel power plant in La Paz, Iloilo City, alongside PEDC’s two units of 82-megawatt coal-fired power plant.*

Good for him. No one is above the law. If his business is found setting in the government lot, then it's time to say bye bye for his BBQ Park. We have no time for people abusing power.

When I was still with the Office of the President , National Book Development Board (NBDB) , U.P. Diliman, I had the chance to visit Garin who was then a Board Member of Iloilo. Me and my NBDB colleagues conducted a seminar-workshop for book authors and illustrators in the city. She and then Guimbal Mayor Oscar were very accommodating and generous for sponsoring our dinner on our first day and even toured us in the family’s mini zoo.

Here’s the excerpt of my online interview with Garin, on how she was selected by the organization Women Deliver: “I never submitted anything to the organizers. I never even knew I was nominated. I believed they treat it with utmost confidentiality. I did accept several invites here and abroad to give lectures, participate in RTDs, strategic planning, etc. I have also been closely working with various NGOs. I never had any inkling that all of us were being observed. MORE or less 400 police officers will maintain peace and order during the demolition of illegal structures along the Iloilo River starting tomorrow.

The Iloilo City Police Office outlined the security plans of Task Group Iloilo River for the demolition Tuesday at the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) headquarters in Camp Delgado.

S/Supt. Celestino Guara will head the task group while Supt. Noel Lamsis, deputy city police director for operations, will be the ground commander.

In his briefing to the regional command, Supt. Uldarico Garbanzos, operations section chief of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), said a composite team of police from the regional, city and provincial commands will secure the demolition operations.

Garbanzos said a civil disturbance management (CDM) team will be on standby to quell any disruptions to the demolition works. The team will be armed only with truncheons and shields.

Supt. Giovanni Musico, deputy city police director for administration, said the Iloilo Provincial Police Office contributed 50 policemen to the CDM team on top of the city police’s 75-man CDM team.

The PRO-6 also dispatched 50 members of the Regional Public Safety Battalion to augment the city police.

The Iloilo City Special Weapons and Tactics team and Iloilo City Public Safety Company are also part of the peacekeeping team aside from the PNP Maritime Group.

“More or less we have 400 police officers who will be ready to assist the city government and the Iloilo River Development Council carry out the clearing operations,” Musico said.

C/Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr., PRO-6 director, said the police will only focus on peacekeeping operations.

Querol reminded the task group that they are there to preempt any lawlessness that may arise during the clearing operation by the Iloilo City government of the remaining illegal structures including the controversial Barbecue Park owned by Councilor Edward Yee.

One of the main concerns of TG Iloilo River is the poor fisher folks, who may resist the demolition team.

“We will enforce the law no matter what,” Querol said.

Querol, however, said they can only deploy the task group when they have received official orders from the City Hall and the Iloilo River Development Council.

“There must be an official order from their end so we can mobilize the teams and help the City government,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Task Force Anti Squatting and Illegal Structures (ASIS) will hold a final briefing on the demolition today at the City Legal Office.

City Legal Officer Jose Junio Jacela will lead the briefing to be delivered by task force ASIS executive director Robert Dumanil.

Aside from Barbecue Park, TF ASIS will also demolish Roy’s Manokan, the old barangay hall of Taal in Molo, fishpens and houses considered as illegal structures or obstructions in the river.

Jacela said the demolition will push through after the March 31 deadline although they can give Yee time to voluntarily remove his structures on the river banks.

WATCH out for the opening of “Lowagan ni Ynion” – another project of philanthropist Rommel Ynion that will serve nutritious food (logaw with kapayas kag manok) to the poor of Iloilo City.

The logawan is located at the back of the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz district.

Once operational, “Logawan ni Ynion” will serve food for free.
Despite the so-called progress of Iloilo City, there are still many people who cannot eat three square meals a day.

Rommel’s logawan aims to satisfy their hunger.

that's the problem when you keep on reading other threads. Maybe it's time to stay focus on Iloilo's threads and the city and province developments rather than visiting other threads and putting your emotions here in our thread. Because in all honesty, it destroys the consistency of our thread. Rather than we are reading progress and developments here, someone had to come and voice their insecurities by reading other threads, which most us don't care at all. If you have problem with the posters, why not PM them rather than putting your ill feelings here? Maybe it'll solve more problems than anything else.

The youth should be kept busy with other 'physical' activities too. To make them stay away from illegal drugs.

IMO its very costly to the Panay railway kung ibalik nila ang original route sang train.. ang mulle loney road naging vehicle road na sya. tapos ang ila nga terminal sa lapuz wala naman. it is good to construct new station outside city sa Jaro area.

Well, for me, let them spout nonsense. If in case they do negative campaigning (and put down Iloilo), of course, we have to defend our turf. Iloilo has new Customs collector

ILOILO City – The Bureau of Customs (BoC) has assigned a new district collector for the Port of Iloilo.

Rene Benavides assumed as officer-in-charge district collector of the Port of Iloilo effective Friday. He replaced Roberto Madrid who was assigned to monitor and assess imported goods stored in warehouses throughout the country.

Mardid was appointed as the new chief of the bureau’s warehousing assessment monitoring unit. He had served as OIC district collector here for three years.

Benavides, on the other hand, was a former port collector in the sub-port of Mactan, Port of Cebu.

He had also served as OIC district collector at the Port of Tacloban and Port of Legazpi.

Benavides’ assumption to office was signed by Customs Administrative Officer IV Catalina Sanglap based on the memorandum issued by Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez.

TARGET

The Port of Iloilo is considered the leading trade and commercial hub in Western Visayas.

Last year, it exceeded by 88 percent its collection target, reaching about P1.8 billion. The assigned target was only for P626.149 million.

This year, the Port of Iloilo has a collection target of P1.5 billion, Benavides said.

He cited the ongoing construction of the coal-fired power plant in this city which improved the port’s collection by 58.69 percent in 2010.

Madrid, in his accomplishment report for 2010, reported that the construction of the 2x82 megawatt coal-fired power plant by the Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) indicated a positive deviation for the port’s collection.

PEDC paid P793,380,741 for the value-added taxes of its imported machineries and equipments.

Jose Naig, Port of Iloilo deputy district collector, said the government gives incentives to investors putting up power plants in its aim to stabilize energy sources, by exempting them from paying the BoC duties.

BoC is one of the revenue generation arms of the government. It generates 30 to 40 percent of the financial resources, with the Bureau of Internal Revenue providing 50 to 60 percent. Ten percent is generated by the Treasury, Land Transportation Office, and other financial institutions, Naig explained./PN

As for me, share what ever you would like to post or deem worth posting. Sometimes somebody has to state the obvious or point out something doesn't seem right. People would hate the way you do that, calling a spade a spade, ignites the ire of those especially on the offensive (most of the time). Its just that some people on our thread are not 'used' to posting your observations regarding the shameless ways others would do to put down our beloved Iloilo and would rather dwell on other things or they just let it slide. Either way, any opinions are worth reading here (Bernie knows my advocacy ;))

Good morning! three issues would like to comment on..

one: slight changes of schedule on the Kapideco Condo soft opening, adjust niyo na lang in a matter of days..

two: regarding, ang sa likod ni muelle nga property, don't worry guys, I personally know what the owners will be investing in that lot.. it's in the midterm plans..3-5 years may matindog na da.

What do you guys want me to talk about huh? When I post updates about something, you all react like I fuss over it and discuss about how "low" people buy a venti cup of coffee and spend hours inside one store. And when I talk about something else such as other people's comments, y'all still react like I've done something so unforgivable. Why huh? Are your hands that clean? Have you never done something like this? Or maybe its better if I just keep my mouth shut nalang and lurk :lol:
i don't know who's fussing over your updates here in our thread -- I'm sure everyone here is sensible enough to comment on your postings. What I really don't like to read is taking issues on someone else's thread especially those postings that are insensible and irrelevant, which unfortunately at times become a mantra and an update already. We have so much issues to discuss here in Iloilo thread especially on the developments, the ongoing & pressing issues and concerns of our province than to talk of what other people is saying about our city especially if they are not the ones to help move our city and people forward. I will never ask anyone to keep their mouth shut nor stop posting ---however, I would really like to read issues, concerns, development, interests, projects, so and so forth about ILOILO and what our local government is doing to help alleviate the life of our people in the city and province. As for any other threads apart from Iloilo and Panay, personally, I wouldn't want to know. If anyone is really interested to visit their threads maybe it would be best if any issues can be dealt there rather than in our thread. This is Iloilo thread, and I'm hoping to read as much as possible things pertaining to Iloilo and Ilonggos alone.

Im actually quiet disappointed about banning skateboarding in the boulevard. The scene there was great when I used to skate that spot. In my opinion the motorcycles are the only things worth banning kay damu b kaskasero sa dalan dira.. Kami nga ga skate gina respeto man namun ang mga ga-jog. I don't think the news article quoted the right figure or, chances are, missed to specify the scope of work for that amount. It could be for a preliminary portion of the work only.

The distance between Iloilo City and Roxas City is approximately 135km.
For Php3.5B, that translates to Php25.9M per km or Php25,900/meter. The unit cost will be lower if we consider Iloilo-Kalibo route.

Php26k/m is a measly amount even to build the rail infrastructure alone (civil works/formation, enabling works, tracks etc). Then there's the cost of the trains, stations, stabling facility, right of way compensation, statutory requirements, etc.

So we will be looking at tens of billions of pesos here to get this project done.

Im actually quiet disappointed about banning skateboarding in the boulevard. The scene there was great when I used to skate that spot. In my opinion the motorcycles are the only things worth banning kay damu b kaskasero sa dalan dira.. Kami nga ga skate gina respeto man namun ang mga ga-jog. Wala man gina harass, except lang b sa mga gwapa.. hehe:nuts:... I think la man may accident nga matabo if skaters and mga ga-jog is responsible sa ila gina ubra. Gapahigad lang man gani kami, ang iban da nga ga-jog bisan kadako sang dalan dira gid sa tubang namun gaagi as if bala low life kami nga indi dapat makagami sa amu na nga space. Kag and iban bisan kita na nga may rail, dira japon ma jog along, back street boys style pa na bala nga tulupad sila 5 kabilog. Daw wala common sense, t kis-a indi ta gid mapunggan nga maigo ang isa sa ila sang board kung mag-sala sa trick ang skater. Just a matter of mutual respect tani sa duwa nga part. And altough nga may skate park na diri, indi man maacommodate ang tanan.

yup, i think nga sabad gidman kung ma-untat2 ka jog. But sa experience ko ang mga ga rail nga skaters either sa bbq park parking area ayon or sa Bplace ayon. The rest of the way pakadto sa molo is sa joggers na.. :)

But ang longboarders tam-an kadasig kis-a so delicado gidman sa joggers. Kag sila ang makadab-ot sa Saviour nga side amu na guro sabad asta sa punta para sa joggers..:nuts:

Hopefully something could be done. These youths need a place where they can exercise or use their energy for something productive be it skateboarding, longboarding, biking or other extreme sports. What is important is that they won't be involve in illegal drugs. Sports is good for the youth. :okay:

I also suggested before a scheme about scheduling or create entirely a new park for these kind of activities.

AFTER all the political noise and press releases trumpeting City Hall’s “political will”, the demolition of illegal structures at the Iloilo River today appears uncertain.

The Iloilo City government-led demolition which was previously announced as definitely happening today is “on hold” pending consultation with an Ilonggo member of the Senate.

S/Supt. Marietto Valerio, Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director, confirmed in a telephone interview with Aksyon Radyo last night that the demolition of Barbecue Park, Roy’s Manokan and the old Taal barangay hall may or may not push through.

Barbecue Park is owned by Councilor Edward Yee, an ally of Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog. Yee is praying for a temporary restraining order with the Court of Appeals to stop the demolition of his business after failing to secure the same from the Regional Trial Court.

Valerio, who was supposed to head the security arrangements of the demolition, said he earlier received text messages that the demolition will not push through. The ICPO chief then called Iloilo City Legal Officer Jose Junio Jacela to confirm the text messages.

“Atty. Jacela said the demolition was put on hold because we will first meet Senator Franklin Drilon before we can proceed,” Valerio said.

Drilon, through the Iloilo River Development Council, has been at the forefront of efforts to clean and rehabilitate the Iloilo River, starting with the clearing of illegal structures.

Valerio said the meeting with Drilon is the only reason offered for the postponement.

The Task Force Anti Squatting and Illegal Structures (ASIS) was supposed to simultaneously demolish the three establishments at 8am today with assistance from the Departments of Environment and Natural Resources and Public Works and Highways.

The task force even held a final briefing Wednesday morning to discuss their preparations and procedures for the demolition.

A report by Febe Morales of Aksyon Radyo cited Engr. Robert Dumanil, Task Force ASIS executive director, confirming the postponement of the demolition.

Jacela the other day said the demolition will push through unless the appellate court issues a restraining order or injunction.

Jacela said the demolition must be implemented lest they will be called “liars.”

DRILON DENIES HE IS MEETING JACELA

SENATOR Franklin Drilon late last night denied that he will meet the Iloilo River Development Council and the Iloilo City government today to discuss the postponement of demolition of illegal structures along the Iloilo River.

Drilon said over Aksyon Radyo that he will arrive in Iloilo City to attend the meeting of the Iloilo Business Club today.

City Legal Officer Jose Junio Jacela confirmed to Iloilo City police director Marietto Valerio that the demolition of illegal structures, including Barbecue Park of City Councilor Edward Yee was put on hold as they still have to consult Drilon.

“I don’t have a scheduled meeting with the river council or Atty. Jacela. Maybe you can ask him about that,” Drilon told Johnny Diaz who was reporting to the Firing Line program of Aksyon Radyo’s John Paul Tia.

Drilon said he has no updates on the planned demolition of the illegal structures on the Iloilo River.

ILOILO City – Barring any last-minute technical or legal hitches, the restaurant of Councilor Edward Yee on the Iloilo River will be demolished today, said Sen. Franklin Drilon.

Task Force on Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structures (TF ASIS) will do the demolition of Barbeque Park, he announced yesterday.

It should not have come to this had Yee voluntarily demolished his illegal structure as an “honorable” official of the city, said Drilon over DyFM Bombo Radyo.

“I personally appealed to the councilor to cooperate with us but he was hardheaded. Even the Filipino-Chinese community of which he is a member is complaining about his hardheadedness, too,” he said.

TF ASIS head Engr. Robert Dumanil said today’s demolition will start at 8 a.m.

He has around 35 personnel to do it, augmented by personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways’ City District Engineering Office, Traffic Management Enforcement Unit, Iloilo City Police Office, Task Force Boltahe and the Philippine National Police’s Explosive Ordnance Division.

Aside from Yee’s Barbeque Park, also to be demolished today are Roy’s Manokan, Ryan’s Seafood Restaurant and the old barangay hall of Brgy. Taal.

Next to be demolished are the 79 houses of informal settlers near Carpenter’s Bridge and 75 fish pens.

Drilon expressed dismayed that Yee took his case to the Court of Appeals after he failed to get a temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Regional Trial Court (RTC) here.

“I am happy that the local court ruled in favor of the city government. It only shows that, though you have power, it does not mean you’re untouchable,” Drilon said.

Citing Presidential Decree 1818, Judge Guillie Delfin-Lim of RTC Branch 22 denied Yee’s petition for a TRO.

PD 1818 prohibits courts from issuing restraining orders or preliminary injunction in cases involving infrastructure and natural resource development projects and public utilities operated by the government.

The court also ruled that Yee failed to present clear legal rights over the land on where his restaurant stands.

City Legal Officer Jose Junio Jacela expressed confidence that the Court of Appeals will also junk Yee’s petition to stop the demolition of his restaurant.

Meanwhile, Drilon said he will assist the city government put up livelihood projects for the affected fisherfolk.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog earlier said each affected fisherman will be given P10,000 to start a small business while informal settlers will be given new houses in the city’s relocation site.

The demolition of these illegal structures will give way to the Iloilo River Development Project of the city government.

“We are doing this to bring back the lost glory of the river. It has something to do with tourism and the economic development of the city,” Drilon said./PN

PFF head welcomes Iloilo football field upgrade

ILOILO CITY, Mar. 27 (PIA) – Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president Mariano Araneta said he welcomes the move of Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. to upgrade the football field inside the Iloilo Sports Complex to make it at par with international standards.

Araneta, who hails from Barotac Nuevo town, which is considered as Iloilo’s football center, made the remark in a media interview after he learned of the plan of Defensor to upgrade the football grounds in preparation for national and even international football tournaments.

The former national football standout was among the Philippine officials who headed the Azkals in the recent AFC Challenge Cup games wherein the national team earned a slot in the tournament next year by beating Bangladesh, 3-0, during their final game assignment in the series hosted by Myanmar.

“Kon amo na ang plano ni Gov. (Defensor), ti panakaamayo gid ina nga plano para sa Iloilo man,” said Araneta, who hails from Barotac Nuevo town, which is considered as Iloilo’s football center.(“If that is the plan of Gov. Defensor, then that would be very good for Iloilo as well.”)

The sports complex football field became the main venue of football games during the 2011 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet hosted by Iloilo here, March 20-24.

Only the football field of Negros Occidental at the Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod City is so far the only facility that is capable of hosting international matches in Western Visayas.

It served as the venue of the first leg of the home-and-away qualifying games between the Philippine Azkals and Mongolia Blue Wolves in February this year of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup.

The Azkals won the Bacolod game, 2-0 and lost to Mongolia, 2-1, in the second leg of their qualifying series in theiropponent’s home court in Ulan Bator but still advanced to the next round on a 3-1 score point edge over Mongolia.

Iloilo officials including Gov. Defensor commended the national team, a number of whom are from Barotac Nuevo, for qualifying for the AFC Challenge Cup which is the first time for the Philippine national team todo so. (JSC/PIA6)

ILOILO CITY, March 25 (PNA) -- An Ilonggo boxer from Cabatuan, Iloilo is now busy training for his scheduled fight with a Thai boxer.

Denver Cuello, who will defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) International Minimum weight title, will be facing young Thai slugger Samat ”3K Battery” Chaiyong on Saturday, March 26, at the Ynares Gymnasium in Angono, Rizal.

The Ilonggo boxer said he will try his best to win the fight in his bid for future world championship fight.

EMB-6 monitors water quality of Iloilo and Batiano rivers

ILOILO CITY, March 21 — The Environment Management Bureau 6 (EMB-6) is currently monitoring the water quality of the Iloilo and Batiano Rivers to find out if it is still suitable for fishing.

The EMB last year gave discharge permits to 41 out of 67 inspected business establishments and industrial companies which allowed them to discharge wastewater directly to these rivers.

Engr. Sam Guillergan, chief of EMB’s Pollution Control Division, said that six industrial companies found violating several rules on Clean Water Act were already advised to meet the standard on wastewater treatment or their permits will be suspended.

According to Guillergan, discharge permits of these business establishments and industrial companies are renewable every year.

The official also said if the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) of water at the Iloilo River will continue to increase, other high quality fish species like "bulgan" and "alimusan" that usually stay in deep sea level could no longer be found at the river. He said only tilapia and milkfish have the resistance to stay at the lower oxygen level.

Guillergan said that higher BOD is the main cause of fish kills in the past years, although he confirmed that toxic and other chemical waste at the Iloilo River is very minimal and tolerable.

The EMB-6 took water samples from several sampling stations here and found out that water quality at the Calajunan dumpsite in Mandurriao district is very poor and did not able meet the 50 percent meeting criteria for Class C water.

Class C water is being used for fishery water for the propagation and growth of fish and other aquatic resources, recreational water for secondary contact recreation such as wading, fishing, boating, among others and industrial water supply for manufacturing processes after treatment. (PNA)

San Juan City lone district Rep. Joseph Victor Ejercito is now in Iloilo to get the local pulse on his House Bill 3264, also known as the Bottom-to-Top Participatory Governance through non-government organizations (NGOs) and people’s organizations (POs).

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog who met with Ejercito prior to the consultation explained that the bill will allow civil society organizations (CSOs) the right to participate in the developmental plans of the government especially in local government units (LGUs).

Iloilo was one of the areas considered for the consultation, being the regional center of Western Visayas and also host to various CSOs, he added.

Ejercito, in the explanatory note of the bill, said that while special bodies such as the local development council (LDC) constituted from barangay up to the regional level is one of “the most concrete expressions of people’s participation” it was found out that development councils are not effectively functioning, much less serving their real purpose.

The bill if passed into law will strengthen the participation of the public through NGOs and POs and thereby establish a bottom-to-top formulation of development plans, which will ensure that these plans are reflective of the real need of the people.”

You can file an anonymous letter-complaint in the Office of the Ombudsman, I think...it's in the CAP Building in Gen. Luna Highway.

There is no specific formality required in your letter-complaint, it will be entertained by the Office of the Ombudsman maski na handwritten letter, basta ibutang mo lang ang mga allegations mo.

I would suggest however, that you set out the facts in an orderly manner:
1. Allege the instances when you submitted your application or did a transaction.

2. Allege the attempts by the BIR personnel to 'extract' something for you.

3. Lay down the reasoning they gave to you as a ground for delay.

4. Set forth the 'other' demand of the personnel in order to 'speed up' your transaction.

5. Present evidence if there is any (eg. recorded conversations using a cellphone, etc - this is not in violation of the anti-wiretapping act because this pertains to the act of communicating and recording transactions via telecommunication lines) to strengthen your case.

sorry i missed reading this post of yours hence my late comment....thanks for the suggestions.

actually no one in the BIR would attempt to extract something from applicants there. it would be stupid for them to do that but it is a known standard/practice there in BIR. 1 week if you pay and 1,2,3 months if you don't. Ask those who have dealt with them they always suggest to pay for speeding up the process. But i won't do that. That is how rotten BIR people, young and old employees there. I am not sure if there are still people there that don't accept such practice. The usual reason they give in the delay of your document processing is that RDO (Regional Disctrict Officer) haven't signed it yet as they're always out of office or they have meeting or they have a lot of documents to sign, etc...you cannot complain to them because it's useless. Money talks there, complaints are useless!

IMO we should follow the process in the other dep't. For example in DFA if you apply for passport there is standard or express processing. And the fees differs too. By this way, we are sure that this money still goes to the coffer of the govt. Not with BIR kasi the express service which is good for 1 week and amounts to five (5) thousand pesos goes to their own bulsa. :bash:

But don't worry one of these days i will do what you have suggested. I just took a video scene in BIR last time.

Origins and beginnings

With so much going right for Mayad Studios, it is hard to imagine that they started as a simple multimedia design studio in Iloilo City three years ago. Armed with their degrees in Information Technology from the West Visayas State University, the three friends set up Mayad Studios on April 2006 using their own laptop computers.

Fiel thought of using the Kinaray-a word "mayad," which means "good,” for the name of their company. "We chose the name ‘Mayad’ because it is easy to remember, and it has a local feel to it, which reflects where the business came from," he said.

Mayad immediately received a handful of multimedia and web projects, but fate had other plans. The Ateneo de Iloilo asked Mayad to come up with an audiovisual presentation that will encourage people to donate to the construction of the school's new campus. "After hearing how much people liked what we did, we decided to reconsider, and add audiovisual presentation videos as among the things we offer in Mayad," Fiel said.

Aside from audiovisual presentations, Mayad began its videography business doing baptisms and debuts. But in 2006, when they did their first wedding video, Fiel and his friends thought of taking the videography business more seriously. "We thought, if we will do wedding videos, we might as well we do it right," Fiel said. So they researched on wedding videography in the country.

Catalyst to a life-altering change

It was through the Internet that they got to know Jason Magbanua, considered one of the best wedding videographers in the country. For which they recently made a short autobiographical film, upon Jason's advice, Fiel and Alvin flew to Manila to buy their first professional video camera. "Jason told us where to buy, and what to look for in buying a video camera. After we bought the camera (using money loaned from Fiel's parents), he even gave us tips on how to take good videos. He was really instrumental to everything we are right now," Fiel said.

After they went back to Iloilo, they started doing wedding videos. Early on, Mayad's wedding videos stood out from the crowd, being more dramatic. "We already have a concept in mind on what we want to do, and we present it to the couple. We do out-of-the-box wedding videos. If they like it, and they are comfortable in front of the camera, then that would be great," Fiel said.

So, expect to be impressed with Mayad's video creations. In one video, the bride was shown running along the beach with her groom, then she suddenly jumped into the water, expensive wedding dress and all. In another, the entourage acted like a mafia gang as they joined the couple on their wedding day.

Freezing time and encapsulating emotions

Mayad specializes in prenuptial shoots, and footage from these are later edited together with the wedding day footage for a creative 20-minute wedding video, which can be shown before the wedding reception ends. After the wedding, Mayad provides a full edit of the entire wedding day complete with musical scoring as well as a 20-minute video highlight of the wedding, and the raw footage of the entire wedding day.

It's so sad to realize how comparing and contrasting one's development/project in a place to other existing projects in the country dampens the mood for the appreciation of such.

To illustrate what I'm trying to say, I was recently scanning other blog sites for developments in other parts of the country when I encountered an old but on-going construction of an airport in southern Philippines. At first, I was so delighted to see the architectural rendition of this project not until someone started comparing it to our airport and other airports in the country. WHY DO THEY HAVE TO DO THAT? :ohno: What a sad reality of Filipino culture wherein one can describe something by comparing or contrasting it with others. I opine that one of the reasons why that certain blogger did so because he has a very limited vocabulary of english or even tagalog words that he has to resort to comparison.

I know that most of us forumers here in SSC Iloilo are intellectual and educated that we don't have to resort to contrast and comparison to gauge and describe our developments in this beloved city.

Let's keep up that culture of nobility and intellect. I hope we could resist the temptation of stooping down on the level of others just to have an "amanos".

It's so sad to realize how comparing and contrasting one's development/project in a place to other existing projects in the country dampens the mood for the appreciation of such.

To illustrate what I'm trying to say, I was recently scanning other blog sites for developments in other parts of the country when I encountered an old but on-going construction of an airport in southern Philippines. At first, I was so delighted to see the architectural rendition of this project not until someone started comparing it to our airport and other airports in the country. WHY DO THEY HAVE TO DO THAT? :ohno: What a sad reality of Filipino culture wherein one can describe something by comparing or contrasting it with others. I opine that one of the reasons why that certain blogger did so because he has a very limited vocabulary of english or even tagalog words that he has to resort to comparison.

I know that most of us forumers here in SSC Iloilo are intellectual and educated that we don't have to resort to contrast and comparison to gauge and describe our developments in this beloved city.

Let's keep up that culture of nobility and intellect. I hope we could resist the temptation of stooping down on the level of others just to have an "amanos".

Well, I read it. Sometimes we need to correct things, especially if it's already creating a misconception or misinformation.

Zidlakan by the way is the general manager of the second busiest airport in the country today.

The new Iloilo International Airport is over 20km from the city center. The old airport was only 4km away.
This gives the taxi drivers a nice opportunity to make a lot of cash from tourists. The metered fare is PHP 300, but the drivers offer a very special bargain unmetered for PHP 400. So, insist in putting on the meter!

The new airport is large. Only the hall with the check-in counters could be bigger and better laid out. Two escalators higher up is the departure hall with several coffee shops and enough seats. It has a nice view on runway 02-20.

The colors of the shops in contrast to the gray of the building and furniture.

Singing in the rain! None of the finger-docks can approach smaller aircrafts

But:

Does Iloilo need such an airport?
On a normal day there are only some 12 flights in 12 hours. One flight per hour.
Isn't this great infrastructure too big?

Iloilo is one of 4 airports on Panay island. The others are Caticlan, Kalibo and Roxas. So the Iloilo airport serves only the province of Iloilo and the island of Guimaras. Are tgere enough travelers?

Iloilo is quickly developing. New companies and factory plants are created nearly every day. this could bring much more trafic to Iloilo.

The final answer is: Today the International Airport of Iloilo is too big, but already tomorrow it could fit. Let's be optimistic!

And yes, the terminal fee is also big: PHP 200 only!

well-versed with the economics of air transport infrastructure (ATI). usual
comments on new airport terminals (not airport). wait for 20 years and they

From the person who manages the 2nd busiest airport himself. :okay: Indeed, the problem with Pinoys is that when they see something massive in public works, it is either quick to judge and quick to scrutinize. Then 20 years later or so, these people would complain again, "bakit ang sikip ng airport?! Wala man lang ka-foresight foresight ang gobyerno natin dati!" :blah:

Why only think of now if we have to give this as a legacy to our future children?

That would compute to roughly 22 flights per day? Not 12. That would be for 14 hours that it is operational everyday. Indeed, before making a seemingly conclusive analysis, better check the stats and facts first.

And given that the ideal capacity of the airport terminal (or the airport) is pegged at 1.2 million annually. From the latest statistics from CAAP, RPVI has almost reached 1.6 million by 2010. Okay, don't tell me that the terminal is big for now? He may be wanting to have a "standing ovation" scenario at the pre-departure lounge which is a big "no" after years of suffering that at Mandurriao.

MANILA, Philippines -- Barely four years in the wedding industry, Mayad Studios is already considered as one of the leaders in its field not only in the country, but also around the world. With their outstanding camera work, artful editing, creative musical score, and high production values, Mayad Studios’ wedding videos are definitely extraordinary.

The studio’s wedding videos have received praises from its well-heeled clientele here and in the US, China, Malaysia, and Indonesia, who discovered Mayad’s much-talked about video clips through the Internet. Mayad’s videos recently won two major awards from the Wedding and Event Videographers Association International, considered the Oscars of wedding videos—proof that the studio's excellent mini-movie masterpieces are worthy of all the Internet buzz.

But more that doing the unexpected, Mayad's videos captures what weddings are all about: love. The videos depict the emotions of the bride, and the groom, making the viewer feel the same overwhelming feeling that they felt. Shots are done with a glide camera which gives the videos a more dramatic effect. “It is a special day for the couple, and we do our best to come up with something that you would love to watch again, and again, and let your friends watch it as well," Mayad’s marketing director Raphael ‘Fiel’ Pranga said.

Origins and beginnings

With so much going right for Mayad Studios, it is hard to imagine that they started as a simple multimedia design studio in Iloilo City three years ago. Armed with their degrees in Information Technology from the West Visayas State University, the three friends set up Mayad Studios on April 2006 using their own laptop computers.

Fiel thought of using the Kinaray-a word "mayad," which means "good,” for the name of their company. "We chose the name ‘Mayad’ because it is easy to remember, and it has a local feel to it, which reflects where the business came from," he said.

Mayad immediately received a handful of multimedia and web projects, but fate had other plans. The Ateneo de Iloilo asked Mayad to come up with an audiovisual presentation that will encourage people to donate to the construction of the school's new campus. "After hearing how much people liked what we did, we decided to reconsider, and add audiovisual presentation videos as among the things we offer in Mayad," Fiel said.

Aside from audiovisual presentations, Mayad began its videography business doing baptisms and debuts. But in 2006, when they did their first wedding video, Fiel and his friends thought of taking the videography business more seriously. "We thought, if we will do wedding videos, we might as well we do it right," Fiel said. So they researched on wedding videography in the country.

Catalyst to a life-altering change

It was through the Internet that they got to know Jason Magbanua, considered one of the best wedding videographers in the country. For which they recently made a short autobiographical film, upon Jason's advice, Fiel and Alvin flew to Manila to buy their first professional video camera. "Jason told us where to buy, and what to look for in buying a video camera. After we bought the camera (using money loaned from Fiel's parents), he even gave us tips on how to take good videos. He was really instrumental to everything we are right now," Fiel said.

After they went back to Iloilo, they started doing wedding videos. Early on, Mayad's wedding videos stood out from the crowd, being more dramatic. "We already have a concept in mind on what we want to do, and we present it to the couple. We do out-of-the-box wedding videos. If they like it, and they are comfortable in front of the camera, then that would be great," Fiel said.

So, expect to be impressed with Mayad's video creations. In one video, the bride was shown running along the beach with her groom, then she suddenly jumped into the water, expensive wedding dress and all. In another, the entourage acted like a mafia gang as they joined the couple on their wedding day.

Freezing time and encapsulating emotions

Mayad specializes in prenuptial shoots, and footage from these are later edited together with the wedding day footage for a creative 20-minute wedding video, which can be shown before the wedding reception ends. After the wedding, Mayad provides a full edit of the entire wedding day complete with musical scoring as well as a 20-minute video highlight of the wedding, and the raw footage of the entire wedding day.
