It amuses me nga may concept gali sang regional capital. Never have I heard sang HEKASI namon sang una nga may regional capital gali.

Regional offices guro ara, pero wala man sa LGU code ang regional capital. In the first place ngaa sa isa ka lugar ipatindog ang regional offices haw? Syempre para accessible sa kadam-an. Distributed man na ang regional offices depende sa kinahanglan. May ara man gani regional hospital sa iban. Ti, regional capital man na guro sila. Waay man na guro labot sa ekonomiya sang isa ka lugar. Indi nga because ang regional offices ara da lugar mo, progressive ka na dayon.

correct me if i'm wrong...diba ang Queen City of the South nga title sng Iloilo City sadto is just a "nickname" given by Pres. Iloilo needs promotions as investment haven

A FORMER tourism official said Iloilo province is ready to host sunrise industries but it needs promotions in the national level to prop up the province as an investment haven in the country.

Former Tourism secretary Narzalina Lim, the president of Iloilo Economic Development Foundation (ILEDF), said Iloilo can be an important site for multi-million peso sunrise industries such as tourism and business process outsourcing (BPO).

During the general assembly meeting of the ILEDF held in Iloilo City, Lim said Iloilo has pool of qualified human resources as the city is the educational center of Western Visayas, hosting several universities and colleges.

Iloilo, if promoted well, can host several investments in eco-tourism as well as high-end tourism needs comparable to other countries in Asia, Lim said.

ILEDF and other non-government organizations are strongly making efforts to make the city and province of Iloilo as a priority destination of BPOs. (Lydia C. Pendon)

Hundreds of millions needed
for sanitary landfill – City Hall

UNTIL the P200-million sanitary landfill for Iloilo City is realized, expect millions more in expenditures for the city’s dumpsite. And that is in compliance with environmental laws.

Such summed up the clarification of Engineer Raul Gallo, assistant General Services Office (GSO) chief, following over P12.2 million in additional budget for the GSO.

With some P94.5 million in working budget for 2011, the GSO will get P12.2 million more intended for ongoing works at the city’s dumpsite in Calajunan, Mandurriao.

Referred to as the “Calajunan Dumpsite,” P5 million of the P12.2. million will go for the loading and hauling of soil cover for the dumpsite’s “development.” Remaining P7.2 million has been allocated for rental of heavy equipment needed for excavation, spreading, composting and soil covering activities.

“Last year we spent about P10 million for the same works – rehabilitation and closure of the city’s open dumpsite,” Gallo said in an interview. “This year we only included in our regular budget about P7 million so we need the rest of the budget needed through supplemental budget.”

Yet the new allocation is not enough still, he clarified, saying the P5 million will only get the city about 16,000 cubic meter of soil.

“Over-all needed is 70,000 cubic meter of soil for soil cover...so far we are about 45,000 cubic meters already,” he added.

The “Calajunan Dumpsite” is 23-hectare wide and destination of city’s 200 tons of trash daily. The figure is 40 tons more from the previous years’ average of daily trash as recorded by the GSO pegged then at 160 tons everyday.

“The soil covering is for leveling of the open dumpsite. Ongoing too is our efforts for “controlled dumping” and we are introducing new system of dumping which is environment-friendly already,” Gallo continued.

As for the forthcoming P200-million sanitary landfill, Gallo said feasibility study and the detailed engineering plans have already been done.

Pressed for details on the budget source, Gallo said it could yet be another forthcoming loan as well.

Records obtained by TDG disclosed that P90 million in loan was secured with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) in 2006.

With purpose stated for “construction of sanitary landfill,” the loan is for a 15-year period set to mature in 2021.

To date, balance of the P90 million is down to principal amount of P88,132,832.42.

“We are pursuing this in compliance with the environmental laws against open dumpsites,” Engineer Gallo ended.

Fish vendor hailed for overcoming poverty

ILOILO City – A fish vendor from Sooc village in Arevalo district won this year’s search for “Bulawanon nga Nanay.”

Lydia Javier, 71, bested 13 other finalists in the annual event organized by the city government through the Iloilo City Task Force on Street Children (ICTFSC).

She toiled to send her nine children to school by selling fish in the district public market.

Everyday she would wake up early to work because no fish sold means no money for her family’s needs.

Javier’s husband worked in a farm while she sold fish in the market.

Having come from a poor family and reached only the elementary level, she wanted to see her children graduate from college and have comfortable lives.

“I don’t have any material wealth to pass on to them so I’d rather give them education,” she said.

Her hard work and determination bore fruit. Most of her children finished school, even as some reached only college level but got stable jobs.

A daughter, Sheila, even graduated magna cum laude with a degree in education.

Javier now has a teacher, seafarer, policeman, overseas worker, a nurse and a medical technologist, among others.

The Javier family has also been named “Huwaran nga Pamilya” (model family) of Arevalo district last year.

Despite her success in life, Javier is still active in their community as member of the senior citizens’ organization and the fish vendors’ association.

As this year’s “Bulawanon nga Nanay,” she received P11,000 cash prize, a sash, gift packs and certificates.

Lilia Sagala, 73, of Brgy. Cubay, Jaro district was declared first runner-up; while Ma. Teresa Cabuday of Zamora-Melliza, City Proper placed second runner-up.

The judges were Dr. Dominica Parcia of the Department of Education, Estela Paredes of the National Economic and Development Authority, and Cecile Gabotin of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The finalists were judged according to home management and parenting skills, including their community involvement.

The “Bulawanon nga Nanay,” now on its third year, searches for this city’s outstanding mothers who were able to overcome poverty and helped their families achieve better economic conditions. (LMS, Iloilo City PIO/PN)

in so far as this, well im not entirely sure how to treat my good freinds conversation in regards to this kay istoryahanay over a bottle of wine, ti blan nyo naman kung may alcohol na ga tayug ang istorya. A little background though my friend is a very good and childhood friend of the Guimaras Governor and congressman, according to him the Gov went recently to Germany specifically because of this bridge project and he said its a done deal. Wala man ko nag pry gid kay havent heard any reference regarding the bridge sa news and under influence kami i thought there would be another time to discuss this sans the wine :lol::lol:. According to him though the Guv said the bridge would be Iloilo-Guimaras-Bacolod.

BTW ang ila istoryahanay with the Gov is also between san mig light, :lol::lol: so make it what you will lang of the conversation... :cheers::cheers: ang undisputed fact lang is my friend is a very good friend of the two officials.

Iloilo City now experiencing investment boom

ILOILO CITY, June 1 (PNA) -– Iloilo City is now experiencing fast rising development, particularly in infrastructure and services.

This was impressed by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog in his message read by Felix Tiu, chairperson of the Iloilo City Trade and Investments Board, during the recent annual general assembly of the Iloilo Economic Development (ILED) Foundation, Inc.

The mayor said that the flourishing of these sectors is a clear manifestation of the public and private sectors common vision and vital role in transforming a vibrant community.

Mabilog said that “giant developers have already set foot in Iloilo and have started transforming the bustling economic landscape.”

Among others, he said the city is now looking forward to the P20-billion Iloilo Business Park project of Megaworld Corporation at the old airport; opening of the Ayala Techno Hub; 21-storey condotel of Edgar Sia II (Injap); and many more real estate developments at the Smallville and Pison Property all in Mandurriao district.

Other projects in the pipeline are the proposed P2-billion theme park of the Maxrider International at the back of SM City; the US$ 100-million 25-megawatt solar farm of the Asia Pacific Community Associates; P660-million medical park in Balantang Jaro; and the proposed P150-million River Esplanade along the Iloilo River.

The city is also looking at the rehabilitation of three plazas to include the P60-million for Jaro district; P5 million in Molo and P3 million in Mandurriao.

Already ongoing is the construction of the P25-million Iloilo Community College donated by Injap which is expected to be ready by school opening next year.

The city government is also anticipating the P500-million Guimaras Iloilo Ferry Terminal Service (GIFTS) and other developments at the central business district (CBD).

“The current investment boom has been attributed to Iloilo’s flourishing potentials; the skilled and qualified human resources; affordable cost of living and a favorable business climate, among other factors,” he cited.

Mabilog assured that “an active public private partnership is always at the frontline of good governance.”

He said the city continues to cultivate a culture of business opportunity and maintain a progressive socio-economic climate conducive for investments to grow and expand.

“The city government, its partnership with business community is always present in every noble endeavor and this kind of ideal partnership continues to be strengthened in the field of economic promotions down to the effective and efficient delivery of basic social services for the people of Iloilo,” he added. Iloilo City now experiencing investment boom

ILOILO CITY, June 1 (PNA) -– Iloilo City is now experiencing fast rising development, particularly in infrastructure and services.

This was impressed by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog in his message read by Felix Tiu, chairperson of the Iloilo City Trade and Investments Board, during the recent annual general assembly of the Iloilo Economic Development (ILED) Foundation, Inc.

The mayor said that the flourishing of these sectors is a clear manifestation of the public and private sectors common vision and vital role in transforming a vibrant community.

Mabilog said that “giant developers have already set foot in Iloilo and have started transforming the bustling economic landscape.”

Among others, he said the city is now looking forward to the P20-billion Iloilo Business Park project of Megaworld Corporation at the old airport; opening of the Ayala Techno Hub; 21-storey condotel of Edgar Sia II (Injap); and many more real estate developments at the Smallville and Pison Property all in Mandurriao district.

Other projects in the pipeline are the proposed P2-billion theme park of the Maxrider International at the back of SM City; the US$ 100-million 25-megawatt solar farm of the Asia Pacific Community Associates; P660-million medical park in Balantang Jaro; and the proposed P150-million River Esplanade along the Iloilo River.

The city is also looking at the rehabilitation of three plazas to include the P60-million for Jaro district; P5 million in Molo and P3 million in Mandurriao.

Already ongoing is the construction of the P25-million Iloilo Community College donated by Injap which is expected to be ready by school opening next year.

The city government is also anticipating the P500-million Guimaras Iloilo Ferry Terminal Service (GIFTS) and other developments at the central business district (CBD).

“The current investment boom has been attributed to Iloilo’s flourishing potentials; the skilled and qualified human resources; affordable cost of living and a favorable business climate, among other factors,” he cited.

Mabilog assured that “an active public private partnership is always at the frontline of good governance.”

He said the city continues to cultivate a culture of business opportunity and maintain a progressive socio-economic climate conducive for investments to grow and expand.

“The city government, its partnership with business community is always present in every noble endeavor and this kind of ideal partnership continues to be strengthened in the field of economic promotions down to the effective and efficient delivery of basic social services for the people of Iloilo,” he added. Been to SM North EDSA. How cute they portrayed Miag-ao Church. It looks leaner though. Too bad, I don't have a digicam yet to take clear pictures.

DAW COMPETITION?
why is it like that everyone is competing with each other is it because everyone wants to have the tallest building WV or something like that if we people from bacolod keep on saying bad things about iloilo then we are actually saying bad things to our own city and so its when iloilo people give say bad things about bacolod because at the end we are all coming from region 6 and we all have to beautiful cities that have a big economical growth and thats how i view it good evening to everyone and bow =)

the tallest building is a non-issue for most of us. the excitement generated by that 21 storey building is natural. but it's something that would even be no big deal if a structure from another place would be taller. the issue became ugly just because some people called it a fake which clearly implies that ALL people here are stupid for accepting such news. such mindless insinuations in a public forum clearly betrays the feeling of cheap envy of some people no matter how they cover it up by inadvertently or carelessly going technical (kuno) like questioning the website's source codes (more on this later) and calling the person who posted it as "lame". and then for some, going to the overkill of questionable feasibility of putting such heights on iloilo soil just because they want their place to have the tallest, highest and whatever airy superlatives they could think of to feed their lies that they believe as truths.

abi ko gani L2 ni sya sa technical support??? kun indi mo ma pull out ang isa ka website, di bala ang solusyon simple lang anay? why not do a system restore first to check the changes in the settings of your computer? or try checking it if the website can be pulled up on other computers. if that is the scenario, then there's something wrong with your system and not the website itself. indi kay maderetso ka daun sa source code kag mapataka ka wakal diri sa thread nga ang tawo nga nag post sang site, "lame". mu na kun nasobrahan ka na ka dalming kay simple nga problema, abi mo rocket science na ang solusyon. or ang hisa tuod nangibabaw nga gin himo na lang ang technicalities cover up sa hisa ya. kay kun tuod gid man nga wala ka hidden motive mag question sadto, tani indi mo pag tawgon nga "lame" tawo nga nag post sang website.

Goes well with plain brewed coffee (no sugar, no cream) like the way I like it.

Task force sets talk with Rotary Park squatters

THE Task Force on Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structures (TF Asis) will conduct a dialogue on Friday with 125 squatter families currently occupying the more than one-hectare lot at the Parola area.

Known as the Rotary Park, the squatter families have started occupying the area abandoned by the Rotary Club of Iloilo in early 1980s.

A recent survey of the area showed that squatters, some from other provinces in Western Visayas, started occupying the lot by establishing small structures as sari-sari stores to serve boat passengers of the nearby commercial port.

The colony of squatters started to grow and some were even considered as professional squatters taking advantage of the lenient enforcement of anti-squatting law.

TF Asis chairman City Legal Officer Jose Junio Jacela said a notice to vacate the area is not yet issued to the squatters and the eviction process will have to undergo legal process before final ejection.

The City Government is planning to build a modern passenger terminal facility in the area serving the needs of boat commuters of Iloilo and Guimaras Island.

The multi-million-peso project known as the Guimaras Iloilo Ferry Terminal (Gift) will be funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) that will also improve and enhance the port terminals of the municipalities of Jordan and Buenavista in Guimaras.

Jacela said a Presidential Proclamation to be issued by President Benigno Aquino III is forthcoming and will pave the way for the City Government to start the Gift project.

However, the Iloilo City Urban Poor affairs Office (Icupao) said that out of the 125 squatter families, only 35 are qualified to be given relocation sites by the city government in any of the established relocation sites.

Jacela said that most of the families will have to go back to their home origin or have to look for other places to live since they are not qualified to be Icupao beneficiaries. (Lydia C. Pendon)

Community-based tourism projects need more LGU support - Trompeta

The Department of Tourism (DOT) 6 is looking forward to more support from local government units (LGUs) in highlighting the potentials of their respective community-based ecotourism (CBET) projects.

Eight municipalities in Panay Island were selected as pilot areas for the CBET which earned support from the Local Government Support Program (LGSP) in 2003.

Dubbed as “Ocho-Ocho” Econ Tour the destinations covered the municipalities of Pandan, Antique, and Malay and Nabas in Aklan under the Northwest Panay circuit; Tangalan and Kalibo tows still in Aklan for the North Panay, and towns of San Joaquin, Ajuy and Concepcion for the Iloilo circuit.

While several of the destinations continue to draw tourists, there are others that need to be revived.

DOT 6 Regional Director Edwin Trompeta said the potentials of these destinations are still there.

“It is there except that they were not highlighted because they no longer have the support of LGU,” he said.

He also said the tourism department has been including the areas in their packages of promotions and recommended them to tour operators with the Philippine Tour Operators Association.

Meanwhile, another destination is expected to make an impact in the tourism industry of Western Visayas is the opening of what has been dubbed as the biggest zoo in Asia situated in Guimaras province.

“It’s a work in progress, the owner is not in a hurry to open,” he said.*PNA

Greening program to start in Western Visayas June 9

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will launch the National Greening Program (NGP) in Western Visayas in partnership with the provincial government of Iloilo and the municipal government of San Enrique on June 9.

The launching will kick off with a caravan from the Iloilo Provincial Capitol grounds toward the planting site at Mt. Bayoso, Brgy. Abaca of the said town.

The group joining the caravan will be met by hundreds of elementary pupils and high school students from the various elementary and secondary schools in San Enrique together with the town’s local officials headed by Mayor Trixie Fernandez and other stakeholders for the tree planting activity.

There will be a series of provincial launching on June 8, Valderrama, Antique; June 10, SM City Bacolod, Negros Occidental; June 14, Jordan, Guimaras; June 21, Kalibo, Aklan; and June 22, Capiz.

Western Visayas is expected to cover some 4,033 hectares with a seedling requirement of 2,016,500.

President Benigno Simeon Aquino III in signing Executive Order 26 for the implementation of the NGP looked forward to reforest 1.5 million hectares of open and denuded areas nationwide with 1.5 billion trees until 2016.

Meantime, DENR 6 Regional Executive Director Julian Amador is urging communities, civic groups and local government units to actively participate in the program aimed at promoting a sustained environmental awareness on the harsh effects of climate change.*PNA

Business summit seen to draw more investors

Businessmen and local officials are hopeful the Iloilo City Business Summit on July 29 at Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center will make the city attract more investors.

The activity will serve as venue for the city government to present the business and economic roadmap of the city.

“We are ready,” said Felix Tiu, chairman of the Iloilo City Trade and Investment Promotions Board, “to present to the world the potentials of this southern city as the next important hub for business and priority destination.”

In a forum highlighting the 4th annual general membership assembly of the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation Inc (ILEDF) over the weekend, Tiu reported the current development strides of the city and the ongoing infrastructure projects eyed to help regain Iloilo’s “Queen City of the South” title.

Among those invited to grace the business summit are the Philippines’ top businessmen and industrialists, including Fernando Zobel de Ayala of Ayala Land Inc., Manuel Pangilinan of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., Ambassador Jess Tambunting, Loida Nicolas Lewis, Tessie S. Coson of SM Prime Holdings, and Edgar “Injap” Sia II of Mang Inasal.

The business summit is also expected to draw investors from other countries to come and see Iloilo City as the next important business and investment haven in Asia.*PNA

Anyway, going back. I've said my piece regarding that term "if they were not there, we wouldn't exist." That's equivalent to not reading your history books or sleeping during HEKASI.

Regarding other developments, well that's good. I am glad that the economy didn't stagnate or plateaued despite how dirty the politics is and imperfection of infrastructure. Looks like we've learned our lesson well back then.

More road closures approved

ILOILO City – Various streets here will be closed to vehicular traffic.
The whole stretch of Ybiernas St. in the City Proper will be temporarily closed whole day of June 3 to 5 in connection with their May Flower Festival celebration, including the coronation of Miss Brgy. San Felix and the Search for Super Nanay 2011.

The portion of the road from corner Gen. Hughes to Duran Sts., City Proper will also be off limits to vehicles every weekend starting June 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Brgy. Gen. Hughes’ Basketball Tournament and annual fiesta in honor of Saint John the Baptist.

Closed also on June 4 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. is the right lane of Lopez Jaena St. when facing towards Rizal St. (from Mind Scope Review Center to junction of Rizal-Lopez Jaena Sts.), left lane of bypass road (from junction of Rizal-Lopez Jaena Sts. to corner bypass road-Infante Ave.), and left lane of Infante Ave. (from AG Tire to Iloilo Fishing Port).

This is due to Brgy. North Baluarte, Molo’s annual fiesta parade.

Meanwhile, the right side of Benigno Aquino Avenue when facing towards Infante (from SM City Iloilo to Efraim Treñas Boulevard) and the whole stretch of Treñas Boulevard will be closed on June 5 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. for the fun run activity of the Renal Nurses Association of the Philippines-Iloilo Chapter in line with the National Kidney Month. Iloilo ready for sunrise industries

Iloilo is ready to host sunrise industries but need promotions in the national level to prop up the city and province as investment havens

This was pointed out by former Tourism Secretary Narzalina Lim during the general assembly meeting of the Iloilo Economic Development Foundation (ILEDF) held in Iloilo City recently.

Lim, an Ilongga from Antique, is currently the president of ILEDF and a recognized champion of tourism promotions.

The former tourism official said that Iloilo can be an important site for of the multi-million-peso sunrise industries such as tourism and business process outsourcing (BPO). Iloilo has a pool of qualified human resources as the city is the educational center of Western Visayas hosting several universities and colleges.

Similarly, Iloilo and Guimaras Island if promoted well, can host several investments in eco-tourism as well as high end tourism needs comparable to other countries in Asia, Lim said.

ILEDF and other non-government organizations are strongly making efforts to make the city and province as a priority destination of BPOs. So far, Iloilo City is ranked as a next wave city by hosting seven BPO call centers here.*PNA

Been backreading. Been a while since I visited. Ang macomment ko lang is bisan indi ka regional capital indi ma na masilig nga wala gid kamo ya progresibo ah. Example is ang state of California. actually maraming days hotel dito sir. i presume meron na sa Baguio, Boracay, Calatagan, Dagupan, Dasmariñas and Tarlac. I have a Days Hotel worldwide directories dated 1999 pa (medjo outdated na) and yung exisiting hotels nila dito is in Batangas City, Mactan, Iloilo, Ormoc, Pampanga, and Tagaytay.

Actually pre, based on the latest (2009) Gross Regional Domestic Product lang, outside of NCR second na ang Region 6, first ang Region 3 (Central Luzon) kag naunahan ta na ang Region 7 (Eastern Visayas). As for rate of increase sang GRDP since 2000, mas taas ang rate of increase naton (248%) compared sa Region 3 (218%) so indi malayo nga eventually Region 6 na ang maging top Region outside of NCR. :cheers: Pero kung ang Queen nga title sa city nahatag, te medyo layo pa guid man kita sa Cebu ah. Nugon lang wala provincial kag by city nga data ang NSO, indi ko ma-analyze.

SAN JOSE – The opening of an Antique to Palawan route will soon end the travails of Antique passengers.

This new development is expected to boost the economic and tourism industry in Southern Tagalog and Panay Island being one of the tourism sites in central Philippines.

For one, many Antiqueños are doing business in some towns of Palawan especially Cuyo. There are also a lot of them gainfully employed in offices as several Antiquenos had emerged as political leaders in some areas.

It will also be less expensive and no longer a long route from Antique to Manila to Palawan.

Philippine Ports Authority Manager Rodolfo Candado announced that "MV Maria Isabel" a passenger ferry, will soon ply the San Jose, Antique to Cuyo and Taytay, Palawan route.

He said that the Montenegro Shipping Lines was already given berthing window on the proposed call of their vessel at the Port of San Jose. The said shipping line is still waiting for the approval of Maritime Industry Authority.

Montenegro Lines intends to link up Palawan to its regional partners in the cluster of MIMAROPA through the operation of MV Maria Erlinda that will operate along San Jose, Occidental Mindoro to Coron, Palawan then Taytay, Palawan and vice versa.

Aside from the income which the government can derive from the operation of the said ferries, Candado said the opening of the route can boost not only the economic activity in Panay and Southern Tagalog regions but the tourism industry as well.

This can bolster tourism industry along MIMAROPA and Visayas regions like “El Nido” which is near Taytay Palawan then Boracay in Aklan and other promising destinations in Panay and Palawan and form part of the travel tour for tourists.

Enhancement of port services is one among the thrusts of the present administration to make islands and regions accessible and within reach among travelers, business people, tourists, and others.*PIA

exactly that is why, i am always hoping that people here should at least have self restraint on what they post. or else all effort on marketing Iloilo here would be futile as it's crowded with too many nuisance answers to those bikerings of some immature individuals here. Some of you here keep on saying that you want to defend your City. What if you won't do it? Would Iloilo be put into oblivion or will these projects coming to Iloilo would be jeopardized? Unless it would be, i see no need for this endless bikerings that on the other hand, is jeopardizing the existence of this thread. Think about it guys, your so called defense would not change anything about Iloilo, would not stopped those projects from coming, would not stop the growth of Iloilo, etc but it would for sure be frowned upon by potential investors, policy makers, reading here. It's your choice. I know that you also know a lot here are lurking.

why don't we suggest instead to create another thread for these HH, tsismis, etc.. in every regions where we can air anything, from hh, lies, to tikal, basta anything para ang thread sang mga particular cities matinluan.
