Sa may Gen Luna st. to MH del PILAR 3 ka Underconstruction 2 ka Roof Deck Expansion ang Go Sam Bldg. gina refurbish man. Sa may Maria Clara lapit sa UI 4 ang nakita ko nga gina renovate sa Lopez Jaena St. Sambag Jaro may 2 man ko nga nakita nga gina expand ang Roof Deck into another Floor sa Commision Civil Jaro lapit sa SM Hypermarket 2 man dira ang ginarenovate. I hope nga ang Old Inayan Bldg. sa La Paz ma renovate man.

I think(And I hope)that they are constructing a new building mga pre and the old Police Station Building will be Rehabilitated/restored kayman if Im not mistaken daw heritage building ina sya...fine example sang Art-deco design built during the commonwealth era..nafeature ina gani sa Blu-Print Magazine...potential tourist attraction man ina sya.:)

Researchers to gather in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY, Aug. 12 (PIA) -- Researchers from the academe, government agencies, local government units, and the private sector will convene in this city on September 26-27, 2011 for the PSA Annual Conference.

The Philippine Statistical Association Region 6 (PSA 6) Chapter will be the host of this year’s PSA event which coincides with the World Tourism Day celebration and the 59th anniversary celebration of the PSA. World Tourism Day is observed every September 27.

Guided by the conference theme “Tourism and Statistics”, participants are expected to discuss issues and share findings on the state of tourism statistics in the country, and to recommend actions to improve the ways by which statistics can support tourism development.

NSCB 6 Officer-in-Charge Nelida Losare said prominent personalities from the tourism industry were invited during the plenary session. Also invited were local government executives and officials of the Philippine Statistical System.

About 20 papers on various topics in consonance with the theme will be presented during the two-day conference at the Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center. Four papers will be discussed in the plenary session and sixteen in the parallel sessions which will be held simultaneously at designated rooms.

Experts invited will discuss their papers on issues in the generation of reliable tourism statistics, including statistical concerns in capturing the current state of tourism employment, tourism capabilities of local governments, impacts of tourism, public policy on tourism and other emerging developments such as agri-tourism, eco-tourism and medical tourism.

Some of the topics during the plenary sessions will include the different facets of tourism as reflected by available statistics and various issues related to the production, analysis, dissemination and utilization of tourism statistics.

There will be a Special Session on Statistics Education intended for delegates from the academe and those who may be interested.

Guys I think Gorriceta Avenue is in peril of being congested kay alagyan na da pakadto sa mga Subdivisions kag mga PUJ's (I think Leon) kag mga dalagko nga mga trucks!:ohno:.....kag it badly needs rehabilitation.:ohno:

Daw namuno ko ni before diri nga ang LandBank kag Ilo City Govt had an aggreement. Basi amo na nah ang movement dira? Share-an sng space sng city govt ang LBP provided they renovate and build buildings for PNP and BSP.

"BASI" amo na nah...

May issues nada ang tag-iya sang ginarentahan sang Landbank Jaro (beside Jaro Police Station) then gusto nila magsaylo sa tupad lang gid da (Jaro Police Station). Hindi paman ako sure pero amo ni ang ginsugid di samon sang gaobra da sa health center last year..

Ang ga facilitate da kung ma rent ka sang ila event center ang ila Marketing Officer nga si Jeffrey G. Pa gwapo lang iya pirme ubra. :bash: Wala sya ga coordinate sa ma renta. May natabo da last time nga ang ma rent sang area, wala sya ya gali nag coordinate sa ila mga tinawo ano pa wala ma preparar, te aga pa siya gin yaw-yaw & gin sermonan eh. :lol: Domingo pa naman and daw day off nya, ara lang sya sa SM City kay nag simba sya. Daw nakadlaw lang ko kay that signpost really reminds me of my neighborhood here in Imus Cavite...and because of the presence of so many subdivisions around here, it couldn't be denied that congestion is increasing.

I guess Goricetta Avenue is a "municipal road" or "provincial road?" Whatever it is, I guess they have to at least expand their RROW to accommodate more vehicles in this major arterial road.

Bill declares four areas as city’s official tourist spots

A BILL is now in Congress that will classify four areas here as official tourist spots of the metropolis.

Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog expressed full support to House Bill No. 4957 authored by Lone District Rep. Jerry Treñas that will declare as “legislated tourist sites” the Jaro cathedral, Molo church, Central Business District (CBD) and Fort San Pedro.

“We are thankful to Cong. Treñas for pushing this bill because this will mean a lot to our tourism industry and to our economy. We want more tourists to come to our city, see its many beautiful places and ultimately invest here,” Mabilog said.

The local chief executive is looking forward to a lot of developments in the aforementioned places once they are officially tagged as this city’s tourist spots.

This is also precisely what Treñas had in mind. “This House measure aims to bolster Iloilo City tourism… Once classified, the Department of Tourism (DoT) can give extra emphasis on the promotion and enhancement of these sites in order to attract more tourists,” he stated.

In the bill’s explanatory note, Treñas stressed the cultural significance of the sites.

The Baroque-style Jaro cathedral was the first and only cathedral built in Panay in 1864. It was where Ilonggo hero Graciano Lopez Jaena was baptized in 1856.

Molo church was constructed in 1831 and features a unique blend of Gothic and Romanesque architecture. The national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, once passed by the church on his way back to Manila from his exile in Dapitan.

The CBD is known for its buildings dating back to the Spanish and American colonial periods. Its architectural designs continue to exhibit the vibrancy of Iloilo City’s historic trade and commercial sector.

The nearby Fort San Pedro, which was built between 1603 and 1616, served as the Ilonggos’ bastion against invading pirates during the Spanish period. Despite being badly damaged in World War II, a park was created where it previously stood complete with a statue of Christ marking where the Fort used to be.

ABS-CBN relaunches TV Patrol & Sikat Ka! Iloilo

ABS-CBN Regional Network Group in Panay is relaunching its daily news program and early morning show.

The late afternoon news program TV Patrol Iloilo will be renamed TV Patrol Panay and will be once again anchored by Atty. Joebert Peñaflorida.

Peñaflorida, who anchored it for 7 years, will be back onboard to lead a news team that will also give importance to reportage in the other provinces of Panay Island and Guimaras.

On its pilot episode that airs August 22, it will have live reports not only from Iloilo but also in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras.

This new format is the start of strengthening its coverage to cover the whole of Panay and Guimaras.

Meanwhile, Sedfrey Cabaluna takes over Peñaflorida in hosting the morning show Sikat Ka! Iloilo.

The morning show will shift its focus in giving Panay a rundown on the day’s good news and the lighter side of things.

Lapuz District proposal gets City Hall backing

THE Iloilo City Hall assured assistance to village chiefs of Lapuz as they push to complete the process of becoming the seventh district of the city.

On December 17, 2008, the city council passed Ordinance No. 894 dated creating a separate district of Lapuz to pave the way for the establishment of police and fire substations.

Recently, Liga ng mga Barangay-Lapuz president Ricardo Diño Sr. of Bo. Obrero sought the help of the City Hall to recognize their community as a distinct and separate district.

Iloilo City is composed of 180 barangays in the districts of Jaro, LaPaz, Iloilo City Proper, Molo, Arevalo and Mandurriao.

Councilor Plaridel Nava said there is no need for another legislative action on Lapuz as requested by Brgy. Capt. Diño since the city council already approved the same in 2008.

Nava said that what are lacking in Lapuz are the police and fire stations and the Department of Education city schools division satellite office.

Nava said Lapuz residents have to go to LaPaz for police assistance and services. Teachers also go to LaPaz for their teaching needs.

Lapuz has two high schools and two elementary schools - Jalandoni Memorial Elementary School, Lapuz National High School, Bo. Obrero National High School and Bo. Obrero Elementary School.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he assured the people of Lapuz of his full assistance in the realization of a PNP and fire stations. He said he will look for funds to put up the projects and eventually the schools division sub-office in Lapuz.

The city district of La Paz has 25 barangays while Lapuz has 12 barangays.

Film stars, Azkals join 2nd Night Run

SM City Iloilo in cooperation with the Iloilo City Government brings back the biggest running event in the region, the 2nd Night Run on August 20, 2011 in celebration of the 74th Charter Day of Iloilo City.

Sidewalk squatters next to be demolished

ILOILO CITY, Aug. 19 (PNA) -- After the demolition of the Rotary Park squatters, illegal settlers along the sidewalk area from Diversion road in Mandurriao district going to L98 in Jaro district here are the next targets for demolition as road widening project will start soon.

City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the project would be funded by Lone District Cong. Jerry Treñas. He said that the City Engineer’s Office had informed him that the budget was ready and they would need to clear the sidewalks so to start the project.

On Thursday, Mabilog directed the City’s Urban Poor Affairs Office (Icupao) to validate how many families would be affected by the demolition. The mayor said that part of his instruction to Icupao was to look for relocation sites for the affected families.

For the meantime, Mabilog said illegal settlers could still stay at their respective areas as long as the project has not yet started. However, if the project is about to start, illegal settlers should have to leave.

Earlier, the mayor has ordered that all government-owned properties be cleared of illegal settlers in order to avoid delays in the implementation of government projects in the future.

Mabilog said his executive assistant Victor Facultad was already listing the city-owned properties. He said hopefully by next month, they could already come up with the complete list of these properties.(PNA)

You're right... Indi man kita ma blame kung maka comment kita sa mga opisyales ta sa gobyerno kay pirmi daan update sa mga projects ang taga Skyscrapers... Kita mo gid dayun kung sin-o gahulag... Sa subng daan nga panahon we need a competent leader nga makapaimprove sang economic situation sang isa ka lugar to the fullest despite of a limited budget... ^^ Its good news and bad news. Good news is that Ilonggos can afford more cars than before, hence one sign that the consumer economy is on the go. Bad news is, if the roads would still be 2 lanes, then expect that we may have a chronic disease like Cavite does. IMO, we should encourage the use of mass transport and at the same time provide a better traffic management scheme that would control the usage of the roads, most especially in Jaro-La Paz and City Proper area.

IMHO if the LGU is STRICT in identifying and 'guarding' government properties it will not come to this... no matter what, which ever angle you look at it, Illegal Settlers are a headache. In squatting or illegal encroaching, unnecessary money is wasted for PAYING/LOOKING for a 'relocation' for those 'affected.'

Come to think of it, sila na ang wala sa lugar, sila pa ang 'illegal' sila pa bayran, ano ni tinonto? :bash:

Best solution is always prevention....
Why not revive Marcos Law (I use this since it was in his regime, not sure of the actual law) about squatting as a punishable crime?

TRAFFIC

This is insane!

What's wrong with this picture is that there needs to be another Traffic enforcer AFTER each intersection in order to accost drivers who cause traffic.

Plus, this is the system that is happenning in iloilo, agaway jeep because there are just so many jeepneys. Its time to reduce the number of jeepneys so that the number of passengers for each jeepney will just be enough, wala sang hawan na jeep nga ga pangita pasahero.

Also, for the traffic enforcers, I suggest that since Iloilo and Makati are sister cities, why not:
(1) bring about a dozen of the makati traffic enforcers to iloilo city
(2) let them stay for a year
(3) Each makati traffic enforcer should partner with an iloilo traffic enforcer
(4) For six months, the makati partner should be the one to show the iloilo enforcer the ropes on how to be TOUGH and how to KICK-ASS in dealing with errant drivers.
(5) The next six months, the iloilo enforcer should take over and be the one to enforce traffic rules and regulations while the makati enforcer SHOULD GRADE HIS ILOILO COUNTERPART'S PERFORMANCE, to see if the iloilo protege has learned during the 6 months mentorship program. If, after six months.
(6) If the makati enforcer as mentor, will give a grade of fail to the iloilo enforcer, the latter must be kicked out of the traffic force. If the iloilo enforcer passes, he gets to keep the job.

Damn, i hate all these lousy enforcers, so sloppy on their jobs. Sa makati ya ga tiso ang tanan kay tama ka stricto sang mga enforcers, they don't give a them maski executive ka.

ALSO, AT THE SAME TIME THAT MAKATI ENFORCERS ARE BROUGHT OVER TO OUR CITY, A DOZEN ILOILO ENFORCERS SHOULD ALSO BE BROUGHT OVER TO MAKATI CITY AND REPEAT THE SAME PROCESS ABOVE.

Ano bi kay aside sa mga drivers, ang mga traffic enforcers ta LAWLAW!

The above should be implemented ASAP! NOW NA! WTF!

tani matagaan man attention ni mayor ang mga trisikad nga naga counter flow dira sa montinola bridge from tabuk suba to jaro small market. instead na 2 lane naga one lane na lang kay ang mga salakyan naga likaw man sa ila.

sa washington street kun diin ang rush hour dira man kag maabot ang truck nga naga deliver kawayan, ti pugok naman ang pakadto sa tabok suba nga traffic kun gab-i.

paging mitch antiquena, abi pag gwa ka man sa opisina mo kag magtan-aw sa situation sang traffic sa city. ang mga traffic aid mo instead nga mag direct sang traffic ang ila obra magpanago lang kag mag pito-pito.

sa-o pa ta magka traffic lights man? I think we are the only HUC nga wala sang ga-function nga traffic light.

Co’s Puregold refiles IPO application

Puregold Price Club Inc., the supermarket chain owned by Filipino-Chinese businessman Lucio Co, refiled its initial public offering application with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Puregold aims to raise up to P12.4 billion in proceeds from the initial offering based on a maximum price of P18 per share, slightly higher than last year’s IPO filing in which it planned to raise P11.2 billion at a price of P16 per share.

Documents obtained from the SEC showed that Puregold would offer up to 600 million primary and secondary shares and another 90 million common shares to cover the overallotment.

Net sales reached P17.3 billion in the first six months of 2011, up 41 percent from P12.3 billion year-on-year while net income grew 270 percent to P782 million from P212.2 million.

Puregold plans to use the proceeds to settle debts and finance store expansion.

Puregold said it was spending P6.26 billion in capital expenditures from 2011 to 2013 to put up new stores in Davao, Rizal, Cavite, Bataan, Pangasinan, Baguio City, Ilocos Norte, Caloocan, Bulacan, Camarines Sur, Laguna, Quezon City, Legaspi City, Iloilo City, Leyte, Cebu City, Tarlac City, La Union and Albay.

The company plans to settle P2.24 billion worth of debt with China Banking Corp., Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. and Banco de Oro Unibank.

The supermarket chain hired HSBC and UBS AG as joint global coordinators and international lead managers and BDO Capital and Investments Corp. and First Metro Investments Corp. as domestic lead underwriters.

Puregold will offer 500 million in primary shares and 100 million in secondary shares owned by existing shareholders, including Lucio Co and Susan Co.
