@Ferrersky and Pacific. Hay! Maayo at okay na kamo sa pagtuon nyo! Padayon!
IMPRESARIO November 2nd, 2006, 02:04 PM i want it to be neon IAMME.:)
"Dazzling, shimmering, splendid .... a whole new world."
^^A whole new world? Alladin! bwehehehe
Thanks for the pics IAMME, nice concept.
Thanks for the Links Kirby, didn't know that some Univ./Schools have nice websites already, CPU should really improve their website.:)
kirby21 November 2nd, 2006, 04:15 PM We need to constantly update our website Incognito. Few colleges sa aton wala pa website subong or kung may ara man, indi ma-locate via google. But I'll continue to post some more school's websites para ma-monitor ta tanan.
Okidoki.:)
kirby21 November 2nd, 2006, 04:23 PM Si Chancy Aguilar na subong ang chancellor sa UPV. Si Tita Ida before him, daw 6 years sya nag-head as UPV.
UPV Miag-ao Campus was built from World Bank's money I believe. Duro pa ka duta didto. Daku pa ang pwede ibutang digto.
Lalo na nga subong nga rumor nga di priority sang bag-o nga UP Prexy ang Iloilo, ahahay... That's why sometimes we refer it as "Imperial Diliman" liwat.
puwede mo ma-post ang masterplan sang UPV Main (miag-ao), Bernie. I'm kinda curious and excited sang plan nga ini. There are cluster of buildings lang ang ara. Most prominent of course is the administration building.
Dapat infra and academics ang priority niya, and should hand in hand.
Wala question sa kuwarta for building new halls, etc cos funds are coming from abroad pero nadula naman ang academic side sang university. I hope soon ma-balance nila ang tanan. Slowly though.
habagatcentral1 November 2nd, 2006, 04:31 PM Si IAMME na lang magpost sina.
At least ya sa CPU me ara guid funds para pagpatukod sang establishments. Kami ya, daw kada tuig me ara budget cut kag bulk of the money that was used to construct it came from World Bank.
Besides, budlay gawa i-relocate sang mga pumuluyo nga ara na didto for decades. Gareklamo pa gani ang iban nga naapektuhan kay waay pa kuno natagaan sang titulo.
Puro kami bukid, wa lang gawa buildings. And daw indi man balak sang UP administration nga patukuron kang duro nga mga buildings sa campus kay ubrahon nanda nga "bio park" ina.
Anyway, its a young campus unlike her sisters in LB, Manila and Diliman which is now categorized as "mature campuses".
Ang sa Iloilo City naman, they will fully utilize it no matter what.
kirby21 November 2nd, 2006, 04:38 PM With the proposed 300% tuition fee hike, we'll see where the money goes. Actually, the UP city campus extends beyond its present lot. It has some considerable space occupied by squatters including (i think) the lot beside Jollibee and the wide lot across the street from the football field. UP Visayas in Miagao has the National Institute for Microbiology and Biotechnology (just a few rooms). It also has the very large Brackishwater Aquaculture center in Leganes and a Mariculture station in Batan, Aklan. However, we lack students.:)
There are lots of proposed buildings in Miagao (I'll take a picture of the plan tomorrow) but we also lack cash!
I actually agree to a tuition hike, but perhaps 200% instead of 300%. That is in the condition that the government subsidy will also get a 200% hike.
Sorry, I don't remember anyone by that name. Please refer to my post in the previous page.
A 200 or 300% tuition fee increase across the board? How much will the tuition be, just in case? Paano na lang ang mga pigado? Will they continue to benefit from a state uni education?
UPV especially in Iloilo campuses are heavily investing in Fisheries or any Aquaculture related courses. Why not invest in other courses where the demand is great? Where the state uni serves its purpose in educating the needy masses?
Just a query: Is UPV planning to offer Medicine as previously discussed? (in previous threads)
IAMME, it would be nice to see future plans of UP in the Visayas. Damo man ko nabati-an nga development sa UP but mostly Diliman. But UP is not Diliman alone. Damo siya cluster campuses across the country that needs more improvement, too.
habagatcentral1 November 2nd, 2006, 04:43 PM ^^ In a few decades time pa Kirby ang UPV Medicine. The UP admin is focused on ushering every campuses' specialties, much similar to GMA's super regions.
Fisheries and Ocean Sciences is the flagship of UPV itself. Pirmi nga over 90% ang passing rate sa board exam for FishTech.
Ask IAMME for details. Daw indi na ko masyado nga updated sa alma matter ko after I worn the Sablay last April.
Kag isa sa measures para "ma-subsidize" ang mga pigado is thru STFAP (nalipat na ako sa meaning sini) in which students are categorized based on the family's income tax return, properties and etc. The highest bracket is Bracket 1 in which daw free ang tanan, then bracket two all the way to bracket 9 which constitutes the rest of the students in which you pay the tuition fee (P200 per unit, misc fee, student fund, dorm, etc usually ranges from P3,000-P8,000 per semester depending on the degree program requirements). All students are under STFAP Bracketing Program.
Suggestion name for next Iloilo Thread: ILOILO @ XXVI: PASCUA ILONGGA!
Hasta subong daw sa waay man gatupa.
budlay iya pulitika sa aton, Shy. Puro promisa lang aton mabati-an pero wala guid nagatupa ah. I hope someday magbago man ang padalagan sa aton. Man even sa implementation sang laye sa pagkadugay. Indi man pagtikal pero diri every year ang dalan ginakay-o. Biskan wala guba, islan guid ina nila. At least bala biskan gabayad ka sang dako nga tax, may makita kung diin imo bayad nagakadto. Actually, sa aton indi man guid kinahanglan dust-free considering nga tropical country kita.
kirby21 November 2nd, 2006, 04:53 PM Watch out guys, once an ethanol plant finds its way in the Passi surroundings, abaw te.....kwarta gina piko kag gina pala naman
the "phrase" ... ha ha ha ha
IAMME November 2nd, 2006, 04:54 PM A 200 or 300% tuition fee increase across the board? How much will the tuition be, just in case? Paano na lang ang mga pigado? Will they continue to benefit from a state uni education?
Just a query: Is UPV planning to offer Medicine as previously discussed? (in previous threads)
Present tuition is P200/unit. A regular student pays roughly P4500 - P5K for a semester. With a 300% hike plus the hikes in lab fees, that might go up to roughly 12K - 13K per sem. It will affect only incoming freshmen if approved. There is still a socialized tuition fee program to help the lower income groups.
Fisheries and Ocean Sciences is the flagship of UPV itself. Pirmi nga over 90% ang passing rate sa board exam for FishTech.
100% passing kami this year. Eight out of the top ten are from UPV. Details in the site (http://freewebtown.com/fish0) I'm working on.
Thanks for the photo, Bernie.
I agree... The alternating sequence of coral stones and bricks; The entrance which is dramatically adorned with arches; and the two level afair facade make these churches almost the same...
somehow the types of architectures used on both churches are different. In dumanggas church, gothic architecture can be traced from the pointed archwindows decorated with rosettes, Gothic Revival architecture is common in England, Northern Spain and Portugal. In Pavia Church, Byzantine Architecture burgeoned, here, twinned windows dominate the walls and the upper level of the church is decorated by arches, Byzantine Architecture is popular in Turkey, and some parts of Eurasia.:)

the tuition is not that bad though. Indi man guid siya dako considering nga may mga laboratories. Wisely affordable siya dyapon. At least people are paying less for a high quality education. Siguro it's right time naman for UP to charge a bit more for their students especially ang may ara.
Anyway, congrats for UPV. Well done !

Marubeni scouting ethanol plant sites
Inquirer
Last updated 02:46am (Mla time) 11/03/2006
JAPAN's Marubeni Corp. is looking for places to put up integrated sugar ethanol facilities, an official said Thursday.
Marubeni recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Central Azucarera de Don Pedro (CADP) to study its operations, Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) Administrator James Christopher Ledesma said.
"The Japanese would want to know if the CADP croup could accommodate further expansions suitable for an integrated ethanol production," Ledesma said in an interview.
CADP operates an integrated sugar refining and milling plant in Nasugbu town in Batangas province, south of Manila, and a milling factory in La Carlota City in the central Philippines province of Negros Occidental.
Marubeni plans to invest in at least five ethanol co-generation plants in the Philippines. Christine A. Gaylican,

Rolls-Royce November 3rd, 2006, 01:50 AM I am not sure if this list had been posted here already... I wanna share them again with you... another proof of our heritage! I wish that someday the government can put up another museum in the city showcasing this list of firsts... like a mini replica of first luxury liner in the country, a replica of first airline, etc...

spacewagon1 November 3rd, 2006, 07:25 AM Airport squatters face private investors
Some 230 squatter families nesting inside the 54-hectare property of Iloilo Airport in Mandurriao will not be City Hall’s concern once the facility is assumed by private investors.
This was resolved in the meeting of Department of Finance (DoF) undersecretary John Phillip Sevilla with Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) chief Roy Firmeza and City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) head Butch Peńalosa here Monday.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P Treńas said a DoF-led task Force and Technical Working Group of the Asset Disposition Program created by the national government is fast-tracking the sale of the old airport as bidding will be conducted before yearend or January next year.
“(DoF) are trying to resolve the informal settlers issue before the land is sold or it would remain as is, giving the responsibility to the winning investor to relocate the squatters therein. The city government will no longer worry about the squatters inside the airport lot,” Treńas said.
Once Mandurriao airport is privatized, squatters and airport employees there have to be relocated. The New Iloilo Airport Development Project (NIADP) in Sta. Barbara-Cabatuan area will be finished March and will open by April 2007.
Later this month, Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Leandro Mendoza will discuss with city officials the disposal of the city’s old airport. According to the DoF-led team, the old airport should be sold before the new one operates.
The government has worked on airport disposition after it formed a DOF-led task group and hired the consultancy services of CB Richard Ellis, the same company that assisted the Clark and Fort Bonifacio bases conversions authorities.
“The initial appraisal of the 54-hectare airport lot was P900-million. But the asset disposition team will be asking for the final appraisal from CB Richard Ellis to determine how much will be the floor price. The initial plan is to sell the property as a whole,” Treńas told reporters.
Treńas said there have been more companies adding to the list of prospective investors wanting to develop the airport site.
Earlier, Treńas said several real-estate big names, Ayala Land Inc., Sy’s SM Prime Holdings, among others, have signified interest to prop up the business facility.
Airport privatization has also considered turning the facility into a mixed development complex.
The airport’s location can be used to establish commercial buildings, Information Technology (IT) park, institutional structure like government offices and hospital, convention center and theme parks.
The mayor also said the privatization will make a new growth center for the city and give jobs for the residents.

spacewagon1 November 3rd, 2006, 07:31 AM Iloilo Boulevard proposed
Motorists cramping in the heavy traffic down the city’s streets will soon find an alternative comfort in driving along the “Iloilo Boulevard” to be put up from Gaisano City parking area to Jalandoni Bridge.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treńas yesterday said they have prepared a letter addressed to no less than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo presenting the project and ask for funding assistance of P175-million to materialize the boulevard.
Reputedly close to the President being her former student at Ateneo Law School in Manila, Treńas said the project to be undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will include the construction of pavement from Gaisano City parking lot (government-owned) up to Jalandoni Bridge.
Treńas said the project will also include a 74-linear-meter bridge crossing the Dungon Creek and an access road leading to Hechanova Street, in Lapaz.
The new infrastructure is part of the Iloilo River Development Master Plan which seeks to revive the beauty and wealth of the river.
Also inspired by the Baywalk concept along Roxas Boulevard in Manila, Treńas said that more restaurants and party places will be put up in the area to give customers a relaxing “by-the-river ambiance.”

Ang iya sang Savannah nga mall, hearsy man guihapon. Sa mga taga-Savannah, pagsaylo na kamo di sa amon sa Jaro kay daw wala tupa ang mall nga gina-plan dira. he he. Joke lang gid.
Thanks for posting the article, Space. Looking for another mall in Iloilo. Going Leganes and northern part sang province na naman.
Go, go, go ILOILO !
Pasayluhon mo gid iya Kirbs? haha. Btw, wala pa ta kabalo kung ano gid kadako ang mall nga ini nga ipatindog sang Phil Estate. Basi mini-mall man lang bala?
The Jaro Grand Estate (Chateau Geneva) is located far from the Jaro Plaza, almost towards Leganes na. Ang ila market will be people from Leganes onwards. Kay daw wala man sila tupad nga mga subdivisions. Even bala ang atubangan nila daw open space pa. It'll be a good growth area tungod halos tanan ara na sa Jaro. The newly-opened mini-mall The Jaro Town Center (with SM Supermarket, Jollibee, Mandaue Foam) is doing really well (as I've heard).
Tani lang dako siya nga mall - ie size of Gaisano City or Robinson's Iloilo.

@Ferrersky and Pacific. Hay! Maayo at okay na kamo sa pagtuon nyo! Padayon!
Masabad man abi si Miaque eh. Garapal man. Gusto iya man tanan. Ahay.

Some 230 squatter families nesting inside the 54-hectare property of Iloilo Airport in Mandurriao will not be City Hall’s concern once the facility is assumed by private investors.

dont you think this additional burden to the prospective investor will serve as a deterrent?
IAMME November 3rd, 2006, 08:50 AM The Jaro Grand Estate (Chateau Geneva) is located far from the Jaro Plaza, almost towards Leganes na. Ang ila market will be people from Leganes onwards. Kay daw wala man sila tupad nga mga subdivisions. Even bala ang atubangan nila daw open space pa.
Immediately adjacent to Jaro Grand Estates is Lawa-an Subd. and LJ. Ledesma Subd. The former is a large subdivision with upscale residences. The latter is a small but very dense subdivision with mostly middle-class residents. Also Beside Jaro Grand Estates are several smaller subdivisions like Dolmax, Green Valley Subd (?), etc. Once the cirumferential road is completed, their market will further expand since one can drive directly from the Villa Road (near Acropolis) to the Coastal Road in Balabago via Ungka, Jaro. Considering that Jaro Grand Estates is a 100ha project, I hope they will build a large mall.
spacewagon1 November 3rd, 2006, 09:02 AM dont you think this additional burden to the prospective investor will serve as a deterrent?
I guess there'll be a collaborative effort between the investor/s and the Iloilo City Hall in relocating the squatters. Though the article suggest that the city hall will not dip their finger once the private firm acquired the lot, it is very unlikely that at this point in time they're not doing their best to get the squatters out of the area. There's more than the city's involvement in this area considering that DOF, DOTC and a private consultant CB Ellis ara all on it, too. Relocation program will be manifested in few months time, I believe since all departments are fasttracking the sale of Mandurriao site. There might be a slight incongruencies but I guess it'll never deter any investor's desire to procure the old airport's site.
spacewagon1 November 3rd, 2006, 09:07 AM ^^ ^^ IAMME, I forgot Lawa-an Village. :bash: You're right to say about it. It is indeed an upscale residence in Jaro back then. Of course, few other subdivisions like Landheights are within the vicinity, too.
Well, looking forward to the circumferential road. It's easier traversing two districts of the city via this route once finished. Ongoing na ba ang Iloilo Circumferential Road? Or sa drawing board pa rin?:)
Last, a huge mall within the area is much better for The Jaro Grand Estates' residence. I reckon.
spacewagon1 November 3rd, 2006, 09:19 AM Concepcion cited as outstanding LGU
By T. Villavert
"FOR the past five years, we kept our silence in the midst of the political noise and remained focus in the fight against poverty. And I want to thank all of you for your solidarity and faith to help me improve our economy and our countrymen," President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said as she cited the 10 outstanding Local Government Units.
The ten outstanding Local Government Units (LGUs) are Concepcion, Iloilo; Capoocan, Leyte; Bulacan; Pasay City; Negros Oriental; Maitum, Saranggani; Malalag, Davao del Sur; Munoz, Nueva Ecija; Naga City; and Zamboanga City.
These LGUs were recently awarded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for actively pushing the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in their respective communities under the Galing Pook program.
The Malacańang press report said that the UNDP-Galing Pook Special citation on Local Capacity Innovations is an annual awards program that identifies and showcases the country's best local governance programs and practices, particularly those that have been adopted and continuously demonstrated, expanded, replicated and institutionalized to help LGUs meet the MDG.
President Arroyo told the Municipal Mayors, during her address at the 16th League of Municipalities General Assembly and the National Summit on Hunger and Population, that the strong demonstration of trust in the Philippines by the world community is a result of the reforms and peace initiatives of her administration with the help of the local governments.
The UN Millennium Development Goals are a set of global targets espoused by the UN to address poverty, education, gender, health, and nutrition issues and diseases such as HIV/Aids and environmental issue by 2015.

spacewagon1 November 3rd, 2006, 09:24 AM BANAAG Festival
blazes brightly for Anilao
http://www.theguardianiloilo.ph/special/photo/special.jpg
Anilao is one of the least-visited towns in the province of Iloilo. Being isolated for quite some time has meant that the town retains its serenity and unique charm.
Anilao, a fifth-class municipality, is one of the Fourth District’s clustered towns in Iloilo, bordering the towns of San Enrique in the north; Barotac Nuevo in the south; Guimaras Strait in the east; and Patugpahon, the town’s highest mountain, in the west.
The area is small, charming and clean, sitting on an area of 7,538 sq. km.—there is less cultural contrast with its 21 barangays. In a landscape of mountain peaks and hills, 92% of its 22,170 (2000 Census on Population) people live in the rural areas.
A group of fishermen are believed to be the first people to sight Anilao before Spaniards came. With its thick mangrove forest at the mouth of Anilao River (where the town derived its name), the area served as a good shelter for their fishing boats during typhoons.
The territory was conquered in 1756 by Spain and in the next 142 years, Spanish settlements were formed. The Spanish heritage of Anilao is preserved with the remains of a stone tower known to the residents as Baluarte. Sometime in 1778, the community was subjected to frequent Moro pirate attacks. People were taken as captives and women were molested. Because of this, several imposing fortifications were built. The town remained under Spanish control until 1898, when the town was ceded to the United States at the end of the Spanish-American War. It was fused with the towns of Banate and Barotac Viejo in 1904 and gained its full independence in 1939.
A rich natural environment, the town sprawls with mountain peaks and hills, and many parts still covered in trees while rice paddy fields dominate its landscape. Agriculture is extremely important to the Anilao economy so as farming, fishing and forestry.
While Anilao is not as popular as its neighboring towns, it is only in the past years that it became a potential destination in the province of Iloilo. It has a promising historical and cultural heritage with some interesting places. Located 2.5 kilometers away from its poblacion, the tranquil waters of Boyboyan Falls are a potential tourism site for an inland resort. Rumored to be one of the burial sites of the Yamashita treasures, the Bungsod Hill in Barangay Culob is another must-see with its anthill structure protruding on its flat surface. A scenic lookout on top of Patugpahon Plateau gives an expansive view of Iloilo’s northern and southern areas. A spectacular section of Anilao National High School is an area that allows visitors a panoramic view of the Negros Island.
Among activities devoted to culture in Anilao is the BANAAG Festival. Banaag, a Hiligaynon term for blazingly bright, commemorates the forces that burned inside the souls of brave men and women of Anilao as they fight with great courage for peace and freedom, defending their town from the hands of Moro pirates. Dedicated to the honor of their ancestors, a dramatic dance is presented using torches to symbolize the town’s wings of courage, compassion and devotion.
Town Mayor Joel Debuque’s love for culture, arts and history has brought the idea of tourism promotion for Anilao to a whole new level through Banaag Festival—one of the province’s most unique. In this year’s theme, “Nagabana-ag Nga Handum, Banwa Pauswagon,” the people of Anilao are inviting everyone to their 67th Anniversary with its BANAAG Festival. The opening salvo started November 1, 2006 and the grand tribe competition is on November 4, 2006.
BANAAG Festival is Anilao folk’s look at the past, driving their burning spirit to move them to fight for the things they believe in, ultimately, influencing the way they live now.

shyaman November 3rd, 2006, 11:43 AM Iloilo Boulevard proposed
The new infrastructure is part of the Iloilo River Development Master Plan which seeks to revive the beauty and wealth of the river.
Also inspired by the Baywalk concept along Roxas Boulevard in Manila, Treńas said that more restaurants and party places will be put up in the area to give customers a relaxing “by-the-river ambiance.”
I like this proposal. The road should be at least 2 lanes on both sides with a lot of space to spare along the river side for vehicle parking, promenade and cafes. However, riverside cafes/bars should not be humungous to obstruct the river view from the road and seating must be open air, similar to Manila's baywalk.

They're both great and beautiful. Thanks to Collin and IAMME.
BUT if ever we'll choose only one entry, I'll go with Collin Jasper's banner. Nothing against IAMME's work at all but Collin's banner encompasses almost everything about Iloilo City at present. The new provincial capitol, proposed new city hall and Smallville business district. Whereas IAMME's purely of UPV's admin building - which I believe says little of Iloilo or could make it as a sole city's representation as a whole.
Guys, opinion ko lang ina iya ha. For me mas maayo nga fusion of several departments or districts sang ciudad rather than one entity lang to identify the place. Inang collage style siya. Mas catchy siya tulukon.
Also, I like Shy's idea of compiling old city's building (B&W) as well.
Again, both of them is beautiful and distinct.
Cheers !

Anyhow...kanami guid man mabal-an ang mga development sa aton eskwelahan....
a message from Mauro Somodio in Australia from Dinagyang.Com -Central Philippine University thread.
So CPU will not be hosting the Iloilo International Night anymore? waahaaaa .. I'm really sad. Sa CPU ina gin-umpisahan with a main purpose of gathering Centralians and friends from abroad to attend the Dinagyang Festival. Sang una ara ina siya ginahiwat sa CPU's Promenade Park and televised via net worldwide. The last time I witnessed the international night was in 2005 where CPU-WFA (CPU international forumers) gave donations and scholarships for deserving working students in the university. Subong sa hotel na nila ibutang. Another contribution of our dear Alma mater sa Iloilo especially Dinagyang biskan indi katoliko ang school.
And to support Mr. Jimena's message to Bernie (see previous post), seems that "CPU's New Gym" will have a grand opening and with a big bang. Taking into consideration of hosting an international ice show is already an honour for all of us. Now, the newest and biggest gymnasium in Western Visayas will be unveiled. Can't wait to see and read more of CPU's further development.

Published on page A1 of the November 4, 2006 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer
THE woman who once said she ate death threats for breakfast likes the ring of “first woman chief justice” of the Philippines.
In a phone interview yesterday with the Inquirer, Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago said she would “definitely” make history in the country if she clinched that title, “and I would also be the first outsider [to make it to the post] if I am chosen.”
She confessed to being torn between other “career options,” but said she had consented to being nominated to the post that would be vacated with the retirement of Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban on his 70th birthday on Dec. 7.
The 61-year-old Santiago, a staunch ally of President Macapagal-Arroyo, said she would gladly submit to a public interview of the candidates which Senate Majority Leader Francis Pangilinan wants the Judicial and Bar Council to hold.

chymera00 November 4th, 2006, 03:28 AM Treńas eyes P1-B budget for City Hall in 2010
SEEKING a third term in office in the 2007 elections, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treńas is eyeing a P1-billion budget for City Hall by 2010.
The mayor said the City Council’s committee on appropriations chaired by his brother-in-law Kagawad Joe Espinosa III has started deliberations Thursday on the city’s P851-million proposed 2007 budget.
The amount is almost P100-million higher than this year’s P756-million.
Espinosa expects to finish the budget hearing by Nov. 24.
Treńas, who is now on his second term, noted that the city coffers only contained P520 million when he first assumed office in 2001.
“The increasing budget of the city was attributed to the raise in real property taxes and improved tax collections. My priority target is that before I get out as mayor in 2010, if ever re-elected next year, is for the city to have a budget of P1 billion plus,” stressed Treńas.
With such budget, Treńas said the city would find it easy to materialize development projects.
“If we reached that budget, we could then have a big amount for projects and answer all the needs of the city government. Right now, we are only relying on 20 percent of the city’s Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share to implement projects,” he added.
The city with P320-million IRA this year is 43 percent dependent on IRA.
Treńas said the proposed 2007 budget would cover the city’s contractual obligations, payments for the premium of indigent Philhealth members, increase in the honorarium of casual workers and volunteers and the anticipated additional compensation of regular employees as per order by the national government.
Non-office expenses have the highest allocation in next year’s budget with P385 million followed by personnel services – P333 million, maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) – P129 million and capital outlay – P15 million.

Iloilo City traffic gets WB’s notice
By Jeehan V. Fernandez
A WORLD Bank-supported study might find answers to the worsening traffic problem in Iloilo City.
Mayor Jerry P. Treńas said the World Bank will soon field consultants to undertake transport planning and traffic management in the city,
Iloilo is one of the pilot sites of the WB-funded City Development Strategy (CDS) 3 project.
Elisea G. Gozun, CDS3 project director, wrote Treńas to endorse the hiring of Transportas Inc., a firm specializing on transport sector development.
Gozun said Transportas will undertake a two-day general training for city traffic officials on integrating transport concerns with development planning.
In a five-day stint here, the consulting firm technical team will also develop specific traffic management schemes for Iloilo City and other pilot cities in the Visayas and Luzon.
“Transportas will send their experts to the city to work on a specific traffic congestion area. They will work with the city to do traffic surveys or counts and an appropriate traffic management plan including the drafting of an ordinance, if needed, and then try out the scheme,” Gozun said.
According to the mayor, the City Hall will spend US$5,000 or roughly P250,000 while the WB pledged a counterpart of US$5,000 to implement it.
Launched in 1999, CDS seeks to respond to the high cost of urbanization in the country where cities have experienced rising population densities, congestion, deteriorating environmental quality, costly social services with decline coverage and fewer livelihoods for more people.
The first CDS was implemented as technical assistance grant by the World Bank.

shyaman November 4th, 2006, 10:31 AM ...Mr. Can't wait to see and read more of CPU's further development.

spacewagon1 November 4th, 2006, 10:38 AM nice photos of Australia (?), Shy. Very European ang dating niya. Really, really lovely! It compliments the beauty of the structure and on the other hand, it heightens the classy effect of the product/s.
Cheers mate!
I never knew that Sydney has heritage buildings as well. It's one of my dream cities in the world gid. Considered to be the most beautiful city way back late 2000. Until now, matunog man gihapon ang Sydney especially after they host Olympics.
Thanks for posting them Shy. I agree with Kirby. High-end stores and heritage buildings compliment each other well. The design is so classy and wala damo nga mga ginabitay-bitay dira. Tani they start renovating old buildings of Iloilo City especially the ones in Calle REal.
spacewagon1 November 4th, 2006, 10:39 AM I like this proposal. The road should be at least 2 lanes on both sides with a lot of space to spare along the river side for vehicle parking, promenade and cafes. However, riverside cafes/bars should not be humungous to obstruct the river view from the road and seating must be open air, similar to Manila's baywalk.
ditto. :)
pasensiya, wala na ako mahambal pa. !00% agree gid ko kay Shyaman.:)
spacewagon1 November 4th, 2006, 10:46 AM 'Saludan,' a festival to watch
The Tigbaueńos celebrated their second 'Saludan' Festival with a big bang at the town's covered gym, Friday, October 27, 2006.
No less than Cong. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, the son of our hero, the late Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr., was the guest of honor accompanied by Gov. Niel D. Tupas, Sr.
Also present were 2nd District Congresswoman Janette Garin, Board Member Macario Napulan, Miagao Mayor Gerardo "Gerry" Flores and Igbaras Mayor Jaime "James" Esmeralda.
There were eight contesting tribes who participated mostly composed of elementary and secondary students from different schools in Tigbauan, the same number who joined last year.
Mayor Myrna Torres should be commended for her efforts in keeping the 'Saludan' Festival an annual event amidst strong oppositions from some self-proclaimed "messiahs" of their town.
Like other towns in Iloilo 'Saludan' was organized in accordance with the country's eco-tourism program of the government mainly to entice not only our local and national tourists, but also visiting foreigners to get a peek of our countryside.
The festival is one way of promoting the town's local products.
'Saludan' is an Ilonggo term in vernacular originated from the word "salud" which literally means the act of gathering or accumulating a thing for its interest or value. Like the fishermen using their fishnet for their catch or the farmers using their basket for their milled rice or any other agricultural products after the harvest. In other words, it's the bounty or grace that they received from God out of their hard work.
Folks living along the coastline and those from hinterland intertwined each other hence in harmony for their mutual existence.
'Saludan' depicts the Tigbaueńos cultural heritage in the past, their fight for freedom from foreign invaders starting from pre-Spanish era, Japanese occupation up to the American regime.
Each tribe with their colorful costumes executes its own style of choreography to interpret suffering caused by tyranny or the joy of emotions on their way to freedom.
Through 'Saludan' festival the Tigbaueńos should be proud of having identity of their own distinct from the rest.
No less than their own congresswoman Janette Garin, has encouraged the Tigbaueńos to maintain 'Saludan' as an annual event just like the rest of the towns in Iloilo having their own cultural heritage.
Tigbaueńos living in other parts of the globe have more reasons to go back to their birth of origin for the annual 'Saludan' celebration to reminisce the past; spend their precious time reuniting with their relatives and town mates.
To prove their love and patriotism, Circulo de Tigbaueńos International (California and Canada ) came into existence primarily to promote and help their town on the road to progress. Composed mostly of senior citizens, already on their twilight years, some made pledges to give additional amount for the prizes as incentives for the winning tribes on condition to have their identities kept from the public,
Meanwhile, a very young lad Ramon T. Leonardia III, a radiologic technologist by profession, President of Circulo de Tigbaueńos de Manila is in-charged of coordinating his town mates scattered around Metro Manila for any significant events in their town on which attendance is urgently encouraged.
The organization has made a pledge to financially support 'Saludan' in the near future and to come up livelihood programs beneficial to the Tigbaueńos particularly the less privileged.
More so, the recent success of 'Saludan' has now officially been considered through a resolution by the Sangguiniang Bayan an annual event every last Friday of October.
With the favorable response from the Tigabueńos, 'Saludan' is the next town festival worth watching and worth keeping for good.
Onward 'Tigbaueńos... go, go GO!!!

shyaman November 4th, 2006, 10:54 AM I never knew that Sydney has heritage buildings as well.
That's what I thought too Space. But the city has a lot of very old buildings that predates the 1st world war. There's even an area near the harbour where rows of old low-rise buildings were converted into pubs/bistros without altering their interior lay-out, maintaining the constricted spaces and low ceiling heights. They just refurbish them. The old world charm is very much in the house.
How I wish we could find this type of development in Iloilo in the near future.

Tani pareho diri bala. Gina-preserve ang facade sang building pero ang sulod gina-modernized nila. we need bigger and better projects to ease traffic congestion in Iloilo City. More roads, bridges and widening of present pathways. Hopefully, putting up a fly-over will be the least priority kay nagalaw-ay ang itsura sang ciudad nga puro lang fly over. If I remember, the last part of Jalandoni project will be the construction of flyover dira dampi sa may UPV exchange. I think this one will be enough for the meantime.
Another suggestion ko lang is re-reouting. Why not make use of bigger roads like the Promenade (Muelle Loney). Puwede man ina dira ipa-agi ang salakyan going out of city proper especially ang Jaro CPU? Para one-way na lang dira sa Calle Real and mas matawhay. Commuters will just walk another square lang naman para magbantay salakyan. I think this is the most feasible idea at present.
Though the road is wide, sa pagka-traffic gid iya. From intersection in Jaro going to SM City is a nightmare. Then from Smallville all the way to UPV and IDC, traffic man.

spacewagon1 November 4th, 2006, 11:53 AM XP, there's an organisation in Iloilo looking after these old buildings, the ICCHCC. In fact it was organised before Iloilo City hosted the National Heritage Month this year. The move of ICCHCC for Iloilo's preservation and restoration of old and historic buildings are taking painstakingly slow. I wonder what are they apt to right now.
Also, ICCHCC is also supported by CUI and CanUrb, both Canadian partners of Iloilo in developing Calle Real and other heritage sites across the city, so any other development can be monitored in their websites, which at present does not give much info of any ongoing projects for the old and charming Iloilo City.

Amo gid Bernie. Sa kagamay sang ciudad. Indi ka gid pagkapuyon maski langkuyon mo lakat halin capitol asta freedom. But I'm not for total closure from traffic of Calle Real. A 4-lane one way street is more than enough to decongest the area. Di pa masyado maapektuhan ang businesses da. Basi bala counter-productive ang matabo because of its non-accessibility to public utility vehicles, waay na sang ganahan nga malagaw da. Bal-an mo naman pinoy culture, gusto pirme ginadul-ong kag ginasugat sang salakyan right at our doorstep.

Wherever your travels take you in Iloilo, you will experience the unique charm of this historic province. A relatively short trip, and you are magically transported to a totally different environment, an extra ordinary destination of remarkable sights.
Standing at the crossroads of the Orient and the developed Western world, ILOILO lies in the Heart of the Philippines, stretching 4,663 square kilometers. This strip of land is cut by the Iloilo and Salog Rivers, looking like a nose, hence, the name "Irong-Irong," and later, Iloilo was given. Occupying the southern and northeastern portion of Panay Island, to the north of Iloilo lies the Province of Capiz and JIntotolo Channel, Guimaras Strait washes its southern shores, to the eastern side, the calm waters of Panay Gulf and Iloilo Strait, and the Province of Antique is our western neighbor.
Composed of 42 municipalities and a component city, Iloilo is readily accessible to the different regions of the country. Its unique location has made Iloilo the commercial, cultural and intellectual center of Western Visayas from the dawn of history. Strategically, it is considered as one of the main tourist’s entrance here in the region. Iloilo City, the vibrant provincial capital, is a booming financial center.
The provinces’ geographical structure and makeup has, in fact proven to be an advantage to the traveler, particularly the adventurous, daring and enterprising. The province is connected by a network of modern roads and bridges that traverse towns in the south with their old churches and Antillan houses; the cool, mountain haven of pine trees, flowers and wildlife sanctuaries in central Iloilo; and the stunning land and seascapes with strings of resorts in the north.
But, for many visitors to Iloilo, their enduring memory of their travel will always be the people. Considered as the birthplace of Malayan civilization in the Philippines, present-day Ilonggos are a complex lot, most come from Malay stock, with varying infusions of Chinese and Spanish ancestries. Ilonggos are gregarious, fun-loving people whose hospitality is legendary. Their amiable faces, always ready with a warm smile and a cheery welcome, embodies a beautiful culture with pleasing voices that echo a proud past. Ilonggos are proud of their legacy as people normally entertaining their guests with tales of their cultural affluence. Moreover, Iloilo is steep in historical significance. Its contribution to history is valuable. It is home to freedom fighters, outstanding legislators, legal geniuses, noted business pioneers and famed musicians. Ilonggo’s zest for life has made us a world-class professional human resource.
Wherever your travels take you in Iloilo, you will experience the unique charm of this historic province. A relatively short trip, and you are magically transported to a totally different environment, an extra ordinary destination of remarkable sights and attractions: a rendezvous of street dancing in January, retreat in April, beachcombing in May, from June to October, it is bustling education center, and the closest thing to white Christmas in December
There will definitely never be a dull moment here. Many who visit over and over again, and who have definitely fallen in love with the place, would attest to the charm, beauty, and magnetism of Iloilo.

At least wala niya ginasto ang kuwarta sang university. Now, we're the leading uni with good financial thrust sa UBCHEA. Kung pila nga kuwarta ang gina-deposito sang alumni to US (from alumni across the globe), gina-doble sang UBCHEA (based in New York, I guess) and amo ini ang main source of fund sang CPU. Indi man sa pagpahambog pero Siliman fund is way too small compare sa CPU when it comes to money sa US. We can even triple the amount sang deposito nila.
I had a glimpse of the unfinished gym when I was there last December. Ka-batch ko abi was Engr. Walden Rio's (former Eng'g Dean) resident engineer for the construction of CPU's various projects (Nursing/Med bldg, swimming pool, CPU Village and gym). He gave me a tour of these new facilities. On-hold na ang construction when I went there, almost 1 year na, because the contractor defaulted their contract to complete the job. Glad to know na nag-resume na ang construction.

That was a plan guid man. Two basketball courts sa sulod plus may mini-swimmingpool indoor bala. Ambut lang kung ma-materialised ini tanan. Fingers-crossed.
Continue na naman ang costruction sang gym and hopefully, matapos siya as scheduled by December. Amo lang ini pirmi ginareklamo sang alumni indi pa matapos. That previous contractor was awful. Don't think nga binalik nila tanan nga ginbayad sa ila.

Aha! Ikaw siguro tong nagatalalagas luha while mesmerized by the burning scenario. :D
Nadumduman ko pa gali. The burning of Rose Memorial coincides with the annual yearbook's motif that year. Remember Centralite's cover which was a hand-painted rendition on canvass of Rose Memorial's facade? It was painted by one of my boardmates. The concept of Rose as the cover came out months before the fire. Daw sa premonition gid bala kay man why did they make a tribute to Rose Memorial Hall in Centralite's cover? Very timely gid. Ano pa a few pages in the yearbook was dedicated to it. I can still remember the heading: "Rose aflame... who's to blame?" or something like that.

The new Fiesta Truck was made possible by the massive efforts exerted by the private sectors and LGUs to make Western Visayas the next tourist-magnet of the country. It is a remarkable testimony that indeed great things can happen under the spirit of unity.

They need to make use of this promotional van to make Ilonggos aware about our thrust towards promoting Iloilo and Western Visayas as tourist haven.
Hala Bira ILOILO !
kirby21 November 4th, 2006, 03:57 PM taskto gid Bernie. Puwede man pangtiltigon ang sulod sang mga building nga ini to give way to the modern and wider space.
Hope our city government and the ICCHCC will have to consider making these old buildings as beautiful as ever. Again one way to entice shoppers is to make the products available as consumer-friendly and the environment clean with style of fashion. I do readily agree with Space suggestion.

kirby21 November 4th, 2006, 04:24 PM sadly, the old buildings look awful - dirty, ruinous and decaying. All of these will be dead if no proper and immediate restoration will be made. Where;s the ICCHCC now?
You're right. Tumpak, amigo !
BYAHILO November 4th, 2006, 04:42 PM mabuhay ang ikaw 26th thread sang iloilo!!!
oboi November 4th, 2006, 05:56 PM Aha!
Maayong Pang-abi-abi sa tanan! :hi:
:lurker:
If i remember it correctly, it was the 1990 Centralite which featured our dear Rose Memorial on its cover. It shows a tapestry of the facade of old Rose. Inside there's an essay of "Life is a tapestry" and it talks about us Centralians and our role in this world. We are likened to the threads which complete and woven to form the tapestry. It's a fitting tribute for old Rose.
Since the first layouts for the 1991 Centralite got burned and lost, the editorial team scrambled to put together another layout. Maybe it was the initial cover design for the 1991 Centralite which Shyaman mentioned above that his boardmate created. The final cover design was an adaptation of the color scheme of the 1950(?) Centralite cover wherein the colors used for the cover is gold against a black background. The 1991 cover featured "91" at the bottom righthand corner and the CPU seal inscribed in the numeral "9."
The burning of Rose brough sadness to all Centralians. I watched in disbelief near Half Moon Drive for several hours as old Rose being turned to ashes.
Like a phoenix, out of the ashes of old Rose a new Rose will rise again. I was a witness to her death and resurrection. I was there during the ground breaking ceremony (was first done at the old site) and the first time the new Rose was used. Its rebirth was supposed to be on the same location but they decided to move it beside Henry Luce III Library. The first design called for a three level auditorium with 3,000+ capacity but it was trimmed down to 2 levels and a capacity of 2,500. Still, Rose came out grand.
I think, Rose will forever be attached to all Centralians. And all her children have passed through her hallowed halls - be it the old one or new one.
And in dedication to the old Rose Memorial Hall, the 1991 Centralite dedicated a few pages to her and one of which is "Rose aflame... who's to blame?" and showed the flaming Rose in full color. To this day, seeing the images still moves me.
oboi November 4th, 2006, 06:03 PM Ay Abaw!!!! Nag-iririmaw mga Centralians!!! Duro kamo rigya sa SSC ba! :)

spacewagon1 November 4th, 2006, 07:09 PM I would not comment much about the Centralite of 1991 (batch ina nina Kirby and Wecky sang HS) and the old Rose cos ara na tanan ang input .. hehe. What I want to see is the rendering or photo of the upcoming CPU's gym. Diin ta sini manguha man?

Yes, I can take a glance, but that's it. I don't bother to focus my attention on what's detailed on it especially if it's moving with the traffic.

Amo man. Dapat ma-produce sila more brochures nga ipanghatag nila sa airport or port sang Iloilo. It's one way of promotion. Puwede sila ka-set booth sa SM City for Tourist Information or biskan paghatag man lang brochures sa mga malls sang ciudad. I don't think nga van nga ini will very much show the aggressiveness of tourism campaign naton sa Iloilo.
Btw, any of you guys ang may ara brochures sang Iloilo nga puwede i-post diri para ma-criticise ta man?
spacewagon1 November 4th, 2006, 07:20 PM That's what I thought too Space.
O/T: Dali lang manyapon ko anay. Nami sud-an ko.
If ICCHCC will be aggressive enough, I think we can replicate these things in Iloilo City. Seems that they don't have the focus to stir the city's old business district back to life. They have programs but there's no layout or specified time for implementation. Again, they left the Save Calle Real Project hanging. They'll probably raise this concern by next year towards heritage month. It's very classic of people back home.
spacewagon1 November 4th, 2006, 07:26 PM Bigger roads? Daw sa indi gid ini matabo sa city proper. But at new areas of development like the old airport, this is a must.
Gusto ko ang idea mo Space about rerouting. Why not make Iznart St from Arroyo fountain and Calle Real all the way to Plaza Libertad a one way street? Return route of Jaro CPU jeepneys can utilize Muelle Loney lusot sa provincial capitol. This can also trigger commercial development of Muelle Loney. Ang river promenade da along Muelle Loney mangin word of mouth man dayon kon matabo kay man subong daw waay gid ya animo ang kalabanan nga may ara gali dira nga promenade. Sin-o man abi ganahan maglakat-lakat da nga puro halos warehouse or industrial type buildings ang naga-idas. Ti kon may mag-ululhot na da nga retail and dining establishments dugangan pa nga may nagabyahe na nga jeep, damo na sigurado malagaw da.
I don't think nga wala maisipan ina sang Iloilo Traffic Management. I'm sure dako gid mabulig niya.
spacewagon1 November 4th, 2006, 07:38 PM a message from Mauro Somodio in Australia from Dinagyang.Com -Central Philippine University thread.
Ginbaisan man ina before kung ngaa ang CPU naga-join sa Dinagyang kay protestante kuno iya ang CPU. Ahay, some people are just too close-minded or narrow-minded. May amo pa ina gali sa aton? Besides, CPU is joining the Kasadyahan and not the Dinagyang Proper. Ang cultural presentation sang Dinagyang ang gina-promote dira though there's a touch of paganism. But there you go. Wala man gihapon nagdaog ang mga reklamador. From 2004 onwards CPU is joining Iloilo City in Dinagyang celebration. Prrof of the matter is, most high ranking offficials of IDFI are Centralians.

Wow oboi, you have such a memory. Thanks for clarifying. I got it all mixed up. The burning Rose Memorial photos pala with those captions were featured in the 91 Centralite gali. How come I did not recall it? I had a copy of Centralite 91 nga daan :D. So it was the 1990 edition where Rose was a cover. The painting of Rose in the 90's Centralite cover was indeed painted by my boardmate (Hablo is his last name). He is a very good artist and was even commissioned one time by Gil Lopez Kabayao to make a portrait of another Filipina world-class musician as his (Kabayao) gift to her.
To clear it up, it was 1990 in which Rose Memorial Hall was in the cover of Centralite. Less than a year later, I think it was February of 1991, Rose was burned, obliterating Centralite's office housed inside Rose, and thereby prompting a change in Centralite 91's cover lay-out. Am I right oboi?

To clear it up, it was 1990 in which Rose Memorial Hall was in the cover of Centralite. Less than a year later, I think it was February of 1991, Rose was burned, obliterating Centralite's office housed inside Rose, and thereby prompting a change in Centralite 91's cover lay-out. Am I right oboi?
Every year from 1985 asta 2000 may nagagraduate sa amon da sa CPU. Posible? Posible! Hehehe... Lima man lng kami ka mag-utod. :)

OO guys i've been watching it because of our fellow Ilonggo Emman. Please help him kay maayo sya. Popular na nga group band sa Iloilo after the band Dye Vest (pls correct me if wrong spelling). They have a video called "waiting list", see in youtube. It's their original composition I think that made Emman included inthe PDA.

oboi November 5th, 2006, 10:01 AM The idea of turning portions of Fermin Caram St. (Iznart St.) and J.M. Basa St. and Muelle Loney has been cropping up for a long time already. I'm a supporter of this move but sad to say I haven't seen any political will in our city. Iloilo is a very compact city, especially at the City Proper. What's a short walk from one side to the other for commuters? But often times people don't like change even if its for the good of the majority. :ohno:
Muelle Loney has plenty of potentials. When Sen. Drilon's project was realized - the promenade - I thought that substantial redevelopment of the area would start soon. I was anticipating that the road will be turned into a one way street to attract people to that side and a brightly lit boulevard with cafe's and restaurants like that of Bay Walk in Manila.
Maybe it's the opposition of haulers to the conversion of Muelle Loney into a one way street or a viable alternative route for them that's why this proposal wasn't realized. This road is the primarily link for the tractors transporting containers from the International Port in Loboc, container yard of various shipping lines in Lapuz to Port San Pedro. Converting this would mean that they have to pass through the main thoroughfares of the City Proper or a long drive bypassing the central city proper. Certainly they don't want that. Until they find a solution to this, the redevelopment of Muelle Loney as a commercial and social venue will be on hold indefinitely.
It wouldn't be a pleasant experience for coffee enthusiasts and food junkies to have tractors with huge containers and loud engines and disrupting their conversations everytime these monstrosities rumble down the road. :ohno:

Also I don't like the design of the promenade. Hope they could add something to that or altogether modify the "fence" design.

With regards to Muelle Loney, the "Night Market" failed to attract the Ilonggo consumers because its so far away from the jeepney routes, far from the commercial districts, daw ka-dulom magbantay, indi attractive kag na-disrupt ang kalakal tungod sa pagsara sang Muelle kay sang nagsugod pa nga nahimo ang Iloilo, dira na guid gaagi ang kalakal ukon produkto.
Night Market was shelved by the author himself, Councilor Mabilog.
Its now a major thoroughfare in Iloilo City and serves as an alternative from the crowded Calle Real system.

This only shows that the city government has no political will to impose what's good for the city. It's just a matter of determining the degree of priority between conflicting interests. What is more important bala, relieving city proper of traffic congestion or making an adjustment to container van traffic along Muelle Loney?
The city government can impose a traffic managment scheme at Muelle Loney. Say, it is a one-way street from 6AM to 10PM. From 10PM to 6AM, it becomes a 2-way street. It is during these unholy hours where container van traffic will be allowed to traverse Muelle Loney. Other than these hours, they will be banned to ply any of city proper's major streets. A similar scheme is currently imposed in Manila - container vans are not allowed on Manila's streets during rush hours that's why paglab-ot 10:00 sang gab-i, amo pagguluwa sang mga dalagko nga container trucks. Political will lang gid kinahanglan.
lewdsaint November 5th, 2006, 12:38 PM I would also like that Fiesta Truck to tour nationwide.
They need to make use of this promotional van to make Ilonggos aware about our thrust towards promoting Iloilo and Western Visayas as tourist haven.

Coalition created for goal to be premiere city by 2015
Mayor Jerry P. Treńas has signed an executive fiat creating the multisectoral coalition for the city (MuCIC) and designating sectoral heads for the public governance scorecard of the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA).
The MuCIC, created by Executive Order No. 46, will primarily provide technical and administrative support to the ISA Core Team and the MuCIC for the realization of the city’s vision of becoming a premier city by 2015.
Treńas welcomes call center workforce expansion
Iloilo City - The largest Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company in the region is expanding its workforce and will be hiring hundreds of qualified Ilonggos to satisfy the growing demand for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) jobs here.
Officials of Callbox, which set up headquarters in Molo district some two years ago, paid a courtesy call on Mayor Jerry P. Treńas this week to inform the city chief executive that well-compensated career-entry positions are now being offered to competent Ilonggo college graduates.

Here's some news from Iloilo City Official Website. There's a "read more" after the clip but it's a dead link:
Treńas this week to inform the city chief executive that well-compensated career-entry positions are now being offered to competent Ilonggo college graduates.
good that they updated the news section ... although indi man timely, at least they are still thinking about it (I wrote about the callbox expansion weeks ago pa sa website ko).
habagatcentral1 November 5th, 2006, 04:17 PM Im gonna post an article maybe tommorow so that our overseas Ilonggos would sing...
"Kay tagal ko nang nawala, babalik na rin" :D (modified galing ini, hehehe!)
Ti Chy, i-YM lang ta ka kon ano nga jeepney route ang ubrahon ta subong. Save Jaro for January, pagbalik ko para maka-sikpat liwat ko kay Manang Ope sa Center for West Visayan Studies, hehehe!
Iloilo, your less than 8 weeks away from my homecoming!! Might be earlier!
chymera00 November 5th, 2006, 04:18 PM getting inspiration from the previous thread, I'm now planning of making a series of "10 things in Iloilo" list. I also, need you input man regarding what you think should be included in those lists and a short description about them.
Here are some Ideas:
10 popular and not so popular places in Iloilo City to go to for your daily dose of caffeine
Iloilo Nightlife: 10 places you have to go to when staying up late in Iloilo City
10 must try foods when in Iloilo
10 cheap places to go to in Iloilo for a culinary treat
important note: the entries do not necessarily have to be in order
spacewagon1 November 5th, 2006, 04:24 PM Chy, I've seen the www.iloiloonline.com - it's a good site and may dating game pa. Iloilo is becming a byword in the net. Do you know who owns the site? Ive seen few links but I'll review it more later.
IMPRESARIO November 5th, 2006, 04:25 PM Ano natabo man? Ngaa nga daw nag-atras ang posts count register ta? I think it went 70-80 counts backwards...
^^
Yes, the post count does go down especially when a thread has been archived, we just finished with the last thread and i think sinjin (mod) already archived ILOILO XXV Thread, so if you have alot of posts in that thread your current post count also goes down. dunno if this is truely the reason, but i'm sure that's why.

spacewagon1 November 5th, 2006, 04:45 PM Before Blue Jay, there's already a Vienna Kaffehaus. It was first set in one of the hotels in Iloilo City. Nalipat na ako. Been a while already. Then, BlueJay in Smallville and another cafe shop in SM City, right in front of Banco De Oro - SM City/Mandurriao Branch.
But still, I need to give more. I'll post it tomorrow.
Kalawig gid abi, top 10 gid.

Kon pwede lang ko tani magtudlo sa isa sa mga institusyon sa Iloilo after I resigned, that would be great! :)
spacewagon1 November 5th, 2006, 04:57 PM we'll soon find them filing a TRO in Supreme court because they did not make it to the top.     . Very funny indeed. Just like what they're doing in Nursing Examination. It's not of how many cheaters where there in the open, it's the dignity of not belonging to the top schools anymore. Sadly indeed. :) And glad WVSU takes the lead ! Amo ina iya !

If you are academically-driven, then why not take the post in academia, Bernie? I think they need more teachers nowadays especially most schools in the city are expanding their services. Be it professorial or ordinary lecturers.

now you made me more curious. Famous name in Iloilo? hmmm ... If it's not a politician or politically-related then it could only be in media. Nothing will be more famous with these two catgeories cos even affluent families back home are becoming too ordinary nowadays. Am I right?
Btw, okay gid inang roadtrip ah. How long will it take from San Joaquin to Iloilo? Bit exciting, huh?

Starbucks' fine but I go for Cafe' Nero or Costa. In Italy, Cafe' Greco is the best. Sa Iloilo naman, I still believe that Vienna Kaffehaus is no.1. Personal choice lang ina iya ha.

here's a preview of the pictures for the 10 coffee shops post:
Langford Place
Located in the Parking Lot of SM City, it's a nice place to get away from the buslte of Iloilo's most popular mall... What I like about going to Langford place is that it's easy to feel comfortable, the throw pillows make you feel at home and the owner is more of a gracious host to her customers. Plus, the "garden shop" surrounding it gives it a refreshing ambiance.

I'm little bit disappointed kung two-storey lang ila idugang. At least tani three to four. Something to compete with SM City. BUt what's there to compete anyway kay pareho man lang sila nga SM. Anyway, thanks for the pic, IAMME. San-o mabukas ang La Salette?

@Chymera, Iamme, and other fellow Ilonggos
Your pics are highly appreciated and anticipated always. Salamat sa pagpost sng mga pictures.

I'm glad to see more updates of the recent developments in our city. Grabe gid man ang purchasing power naton. Business is brisk in Iloilo!
I would love to visit most cafés if not all of them there in Iloilo. The more, the merrier!
And that grilled bacon burger is absolutely mouthwatering. Daw gin gutom man ako ba! Dali lng... I'll grab something to bite first. :D
Basta Ilonggo Baskog!
kirby21 November 5th, 2006, 09:15 PM ^^ that's right Oboi. Even SM City's carpark has cafe's now.
SM is raking money in Iloilo City. They won't expand immediately IF the newly-opened SM Delgado is not having good business vibes here in Iloilo. Besides, 'twas a few months ago when they opened the SM Savemore Quintin Salas in Jaro. Two more expansions awaiting for Iloilo's SM's. The SM Jaro from standalone supermarket to SM Jaro mini-mall, and the fiesta strip in SM City Iloilo in Mandurriao. In fact, we can already see developments of Fiesta Strip with all these coffee shops outside SM City building but within its compound. More to come, I guess.

It's good to know that our local economy is having a sustainable growth. This only means we have the money. Hehehe... :D
kirby21 November 5th, 2006, 09:29 PM I don't know if we have the money but business establishments are sprouting everywhere. And that's a very good indication of our brilliant purchasing power as Ilonggos. Looks like malls, supermarkets, hotels, BPOs, banks are in the upswing. Indeed, a robust economy for the Western Visayas' capital city.

kirby21 November 5th, 2006, 10:01 PM hahahaha .. pisngo-pisngo ka lang Incognito para indi nila mabal-an nga naga-sentimento de amor ka na imo iya. Bahala akon mga neighbors di kay palareho man lang kami nagabayad besides indi man sila ka-intiende sang Hiligaynon. Mas foreign pa gid akon native tongue.
Starbucks' fine but I go for Cafe' Nero or Costa. In Italy, Cafe' Greco is the best. Sa Iloilo naman, I still believe that Vienna Kaffehaus is no.1. Personal choice lang ina iya ha.
The term, Space, "pisngo-pisngo". ha ha. Dugay man ko wala kabati sini ba. Diin mo na ina pinangpudyot imo termino? Padalumay guid kita Ilonggo-Hiligaynon diri.
Btw, damo guid man ko to comment sa website ni migo naton Chymera. I would also like to log-in sa www.iloiloonline.com as well ugaling tan-aw tan-aw pa lang ko kagina. Oks man ah.
Kape? Wala ako iya naga-pangape. I go for cold drinks or frappuccinos or orange juice. But sang nagpauli ako, Blue Jay is the best place for me. Biskan naga-inulan, ato ako nagahigop sang malamig nga fruit punch. The colder, the better.
spacewagon1 November 6th, 2006, 12:34 AM again, beautiful pictures from IAMME and chymera00.

And so with the beat of "hala bira iloilo" of Dinagyang. Ugaling indi ko na makita ang link ni Bernie last time sang gin-post niya ang kanta.
Fatima's still really good resto.

spacewagon1 November 6th, 2006, 01:13 AM ^^ that's right Oboi.
More to come, I guess.
good for SM. Hala Bira to Henry Sy !

here's a preview of the pictures for the 10 coffee shops post:
Langford Place
Located in the Parking Lot of SM City, it's a nice place to get away from the buslte of Iloilo's most popular mall... What I like about going to Langford place is that it's easy to feel comfortable, the throw pillows make you feel at home and the owner is more of a gracious host to her customers. Plus, the "garden shop" surrounding it gives it a refreshing ambiance.
