City to host first natl river summit

By Lydia C. Pendon

ILOILO CITY – The city government here will host the First National River Summit before the end of this year and expected to set the pace of river development with the private sector.

City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the summit was inspired by Livable Communities (Livcom) Award garnered by Iloilo City during a ceremony in Chicago, USA last November 2010.

Mabilog said the city will spearhead the national conference of about 40 to 50 local government units in the country invited to participate in a two-day summit showing the best practices in 9 to 11 rivers in the Philippines.

On the other hand, Senator Franklin M. Drilon is urging the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Rivers of the World Foundation to co-sponsor the summit slated last week of October or early November this city.

Drilon said he is strongly supporting the river summit to call people’s attention on the importance of the river to everyday life and for the future generations.

In the Philippines, there a total of 14 river systems intercrossing of different rivers. Eight of these are in Panay Island that greatly needs rehabilitation, conservation and massive watershed development.

In Western Visayas alone, there are 881 rivers, 27 lakes and 42 lagoons, while the province of Iloilo hosts major river systems such as the big Aganan-Tigum and Jalaur-Suague, among others.

Iloilo City on the other hand, hosts four tributary creeks and two major rivers that are considered as “arms of the sea’ for having water source from the sea. These are the 15-kilometer Iloilo River that divides the seven city districts and the Batiano River in Molo-Arevalo area up the municipality of Oton, Iloilo.

The city government, with the help of Drilon is currently conducting massive rehabilitation and clean-up of the Iloilo River by demolishing illegal fishpens and fishtraps, other illegal structures and establishing an esplanade project at the river banks.

More than 300 houses of informal settlers along the river are set for demolition and relocation.

i hope that additional 18 hectares bought by megaworld from florete would turn out to be in the likes of that planned mckinley west masterplan or the already established eastwood. a bunch of vertically oriented structures in that area would be the crowning jewel of megaworld's projects for the city. **wish mode**

How it came to be.... the Sta. Barbara Township Project

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.135555326533708.30319.100002377244205

Live-Work-Play-Learn-Shop.

Ever since Megaworld embarked on large-scale township developments beginning with its flagship Eastwood City project in the late 1990’s, this has been its guiding philosophy. Residents can live in posh condominiums. Work in modern business buildings. Play at their condo’s amenities and shop at the mall. And learn at the school down the block.

With the outstanding success of Eastwood City, Megaworld is replicating the Live-Work-Play-Learn credo in all its township projects.

This slide highlights Megaworld's strengths as an organization which is a very strong foundation to its hard earned reputation.

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/184020_135555439867030_100002377244205_228547_5708731_n.jpg

Megaworld is owned by Andrew Tan, who was just hailed as the 4th Richest Man in the Philippines as of the recent Forbes Top 40 Billionaires Ranking.

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/254686_135555466533694_100002377244205_228548_3232445_n.jpg

These are just some of the milestones of Megaworld.

Being accredited in the Philippine Stock Exchange and ISO Certified is a big indicator of its stability as a company.

You can also see that the TOWNSHIP Concept was launched last 1997 and has proven so much success in roughly 14 years.

More milestones for Megaworld for the Townships that they have launched. Thes projects that they will be launching in Iloilo and nearby areas will be as grand and as ambitious as these existing projects.

"LEADING RESIDENTIAL CONDOMINIUM DEVELOPER AND BPO OFFICE LANDLORD."

On Condos: Why settle for less when Megaworld is making its way to Iloilo?

On Business Process Outsourcing (BPO):
Since its humble beginnings, Megaworld has established a very strong pool of "Locators" - Mostly Multinational BPO Companies who seek to expand their business operations here in the Philippines. To name a few of these locators, we have:
Hewlett Packard (HP)
Thomson Reuters
Canon
Enderun International Academy (Business and Culinary Studies)
IBM
ExcelAsia
Accenture

Andrew Tan-led Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI) has signed an agreement with Fil-Estate Land, Inc. (FELI) under which AGI will subscribe to 5 billion common shares of FELI for a total subscription price of P5 billion in cash. This is a P5-billion deal to take a 60-percent control of property developer Fil-Estate Land Inc., allowing the company to work on a new tourism-oriented community project in the latter's prized property in Boracay, Iloilo, Tagaytay, Batangas, CDO, Bacolod, Alabang etc.

1. Richmonde Hotel and Tower
2. Some more BPO and Office Buildings
3. Commercial Strips
4. Festive Walk - The first 200 meter of the 2000 meter shopping and dining strip that will be the longest in the Philippines.

The company is setting aside P2.5 billion initially over the next two years to develop the road network within the 54.5-hectare IT park and for the construction of Richmonde Hotel Iloilo and Richmonde Tower plus two more BPO office towers within this time frame. The first retail component of the project, Festive Walk, will be completed in the latter part of 2012, after which Megaworld is set to invest more to bankroll the development until 2020.

The firm will be investing around P20 billion from the period 2011 to 2020.

Lea Lara, executive director of the Iloilo Business Club (IBC), disclosed that no less than Senator Franklin Drilon made the announcement during the launching of the network of partnership for better infrastructure here recently.

“Megaworld has expressed to him that they will make Iloilo as base of their real estate development. As what Ayala made in Cebu they will do it for Iloilo,” she said.

After a week or two of seemingly lull time for discussions, looks like everything has been firing. :D

Anyway, Santa Barbara Heights is already indeed a confirmed Megaworld property according to a source. I've asked several questions and hopefully they can answer in a few days time regarding the queries of Santa Barabra.

I was also thinking though regarding Iloilo Business Park's corporate logo, like the ones at Eastwood and Newport. How would it look like?

Sta. Barbara Heights. the single remaining elevated open parcel of rolling terrain that is closest to Iloilo City, a sanctuary to come home to, aqway from the bustling city but near enough for convenience

Right beside the Iloilo Golf & Country Club, Sta. Barbara Heights is a private and exclusive address made up of choice lots and prime amenities for the privileged few.

^^
From this slide onwards we will show you the opportunity of investing in Sta Barbara Heights Township.

What's in it for you?

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/262991_135555843200323_100002377244205_228561_5359568_n.jpg

^^
Most of the time, generally Iloilo City that is prone to flooding because it is below sea level. Santa Barbara Heights on the other hand is Flood-free! – it is literally located on high ground.

Terrain Matters.
High ground is a rare place in Iloilo. More so if it takes the form of graceful sweeps and gentle rolls—as it does in Sta. Barbara. Here, one is uplifted into constant, fresh breezes and inspiring vistas. One need not be concerned with the annual rising of waters and inundations so common elsewhere.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/263221_135555863200321_100002377244205_228562_7929212_n.jpg

^^
On an investment point of view. This is the best real estate investment for you.

Development is geared towards Sta Barbara with the coming of international flights, foreign investors and real estate developments.

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is preparing the groundwork for the 14.8-kilometer circumferential road (C1) seen to decongest traffic in Metro Iloilo.

The P1.706 billion project will cover 8.28 km in Iloilo City, 2.70 km in the nearby municipality of Pavia, and 3.20 km in Oton town. It includes full acquisition of a 40-meter road-right-of-way and construction of a two-lane paved road and 5 concrete bridges with the total length of 392 lineal meters.

Furthermore, there is an intensive road widening project in the diversion road area in Mandurriao up to the International airport. There is also an on-going road widening project from Jaro to Leganes, Iloilo due to the unstoppable development of Iloilo City in the business and industrial sectors.

^^
An Apogee of Culture
Like its elevated terrain, Sta. Barbara’s culture of heritage and modernity is more prominent than its surrounding areas. Sta. Barbara Heights is served by a new highway that conveniently connects it to the new international airport and to the Philippines’ oldest golf club. With more commercial projects in plan, Sta. Barbara will soon rise higher as one of the country’s new growth zones.

New Town Developement
Sta. Barbara is the apex of quality living in IloIlo. Exuding a progressive yet relaxed atmosphere, it features such modern amenities as an enhanced natural lake, an elegantly designed clubhouse and a number of recreational areas. More plans are in store so you could uplift your lifestyle to the next level. At Sta. Barbara Heights, Iloilo’s finest just got even better.

^^
This is the Conceptual Land Use Plan for the Sta Barbara Heights Township. These are the concepts for the development.

The encircled area:
We are starting with Phase 1 (the encircled part of the map). Phase 1 has a total area of 17 hectares. However, this is just a small part of the total masterplan which would involve a total of 230 hectares.

The Brown Road:
The road on the right side is the road leading to Iloilo City and the road at the upper left area is the road to the Intl Airport.

The Blue Spine Road:
The blue road is the spine road that will belled Sta Barbara Drive, which is a 30 meter wide first class road that will connect the township to the Iloilo International Airport and the National Highway to Iloilo City.

Our development will make Sta Barbara Drive a public road that will make our development very accessible in such a way that:
1) If you are from the International Airport, instead of driving forward to the national highway, you will turn right to the Sta Barbara Heights Township.
2) If you are from the Iloilo City, instead of driving forward and following the National Highway, you will turn left.

The areas along the Sta Barbara Drive will be a 3.5km commercial strip that will all be home to restaurants, shops, offices and many other attractions.

Guys, for those of you who would like to see Santa Barbara Heights on satellite imagery, check your Google Earth (not Maps, since it is still unavailable). Zoom in to Santa Barbara, Iloilo then change the historical imagery to 2/7/2010 or any time in 2010.

To set your historical imagery viewing at Google Earth, follow the instructions on Google Earth's Help Page by simply clicking here (http://earth.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=guide.cs&guide=22358&topic=22362&answer=148094).

In that imagery, you'll see Phase 1 in front of the Sanitarium. However, the Blue Spine Road is already taking shape on the left portion of the area.

Thanks! :)

Something about Obet Armada:

As of October 13 2008, the youngest Vice Governor of Iloilo Province, Philippines, is The Son of Former Bureau of Customs Regional Director Atty. Gil B. Armada Sr. and Thelma Solinap-Buenaflor of dumangas, Roberto "Obet" Buenaflor ARMADA of Janiuay. At an early age of 36 he was officially proclaimed as the Legislative Head of the Local Government for the Province of Iloilo last May 2001 elections, defeating vice-gubernatorial rivals Undefeated Leganes Strongman Adolf "adop Jaen", and Board Memeber Araneta from the Fourth district of the Iloilo Province. "Obet" as people fundly call him, was serving his second term as vice-mayor of his hometown, JANIUAY (which is also a municipal history as he was the first and the only reelected vice-mayor of the said town up to date) prior to 2001 elections. An achiever in his own rights, Roberto Armada, during his second term as janiuay vice mayor, also served at the same time as Executive Vice President for the Vice Mayor's League of the Philippines (VMLP), and later became the President of VMLP as the then VMLP President, Famous Actor and Makati City Vice Mayor Edu Manzano stepped down from his VMLP Presidency in preparation for the impending electoral battle against Mayor Binay of Makati approaching 2001 elections. Former Vice Governor ARMADA was unquestionably reelected in the May 2004 elections and devastated his rival, then Board Memeber and also former Lambunao mayor Bugok Ramirez, of more than 20,000 votes despite his Teammate Reelected Governor Niel Tupas won over former Congressman and acclaimed Political Kingpin of the south Oscar "Oca" Garin for an overwhelming 90,000 plus votes. Only goes to show that track record and "clean name" willl always be a factor in winning the heart of the voters. Prior to the most recent MAY 2007 elections, following the political-ridden incident which alarmed the nation, tagged as the Iloilo-capitol sieged, Obet was inevitably pitted against the incumbent Governor Niel Tupas as to which many considered as Party-loyalty decision of the good vice governor, was defeated fair and square. The province's 2nd man exited the local political arena for a 3 year private life with dignity, humbleness and self-respect only to be chosen, In the name of quality servitude, unity and political healing , as rightful running mate of no less than the son of Gov. Tupas, Mayor Raul "boboy" Tupas. Yet again, good name and unblemished record proved to be Obet's silver linning. A pride of Janiuay. Surely, Obet will always be remembered as the young, competent and Intelligent Vice Governor of Iloilo who served as an inspiration for the young dreamers of his time. -- SANJAY ARMADA--Iloilo Philippines

Yup, it is... based on that map, its dated December 18, 2009. So that means, they have been doing the road works since 2009? Wow! :okay:

And those green roofs are the Sanitarium building (now a research center)?

Also try if you can change the image date to 2010 as Bernie suggested so that we can see the Blue Spine Road... that one is pretty interesting!

Iloilo surpasses average rice yield inspite of rats
(http://www.thedailyguardian.net/index.php/local-news/1842-iloilo-surpasses-average-rice-yield-inspite-of-rats)
By: Francis Allan L. Angelo

ILOILO surpassed its average rice yield per hectare in 2010 despite the rat infestation bugging the farmers.

Citing rice harvest data for July 2011, Dr. Ildefonso Toledo, Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) chief, said palay production in more than 2,400 hectares totaled 8,800 metric tons (MT).

Toledo said Iloilo’s average rice yield per hectare this year is at 3.65MT, higher than the 3.5MT yield in past years.

Toledo said although rat infestation has reached 31 towns in Iloilo, damage to rice crop remains minimal as less than 1 percent of the province’s 127 hectares of rice farm is affected by the pest.

Toledo said the rat population in affected areas was already contained based on the report of PAO personnel who conducted monitoring and evaluation of the situation in the province.

“Rats are part of the ecosystem in the farm, it is just a matter of how we manage and control their population, rats come when food is readily available to them,” said Toledo.

Toledo said the municipal and provincial governments are ready to address the rat infestation but he encouraged farmers to do their share by maintaining the cleanliness of their respective farms and to monitor if there are holes or rat trails which are important indications of infestation.

“There are other ways that we could prevent rat infestation other than using poison which is our last option,” said Toledo. (With reports from PIA)

Terminal for Bacolod ferries up for transfer (http://www.thedailyguardian.net/index.php/local-news/1843-terminal-for-bacolod-ferries-up-for-transfer)

y: Francis Allan L. Angelo

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is studying the possibility of transferring the terminals for Iloilo-Bacolod ferries to give way to the dredging of the Iloilo River and construction of a new terminal for Guimaras-bound pump boats.

Senator Franklin Drilon ordered the PPA to look into the transfer of the ferry terminals from Muelle Loney in Iloilo City Proper across Lapuz, LaPaz so they can facilitate the improvement of the Iloilo River system.

Drilon issued the order during the meeting of the Iloilo River Development Council lat week.

The Ilonggo senator noticed that offices of Bacolod-bound ferry services are overcrowding the narrow road leading to the wharf.

The senator also wants the ferries to move to the other side of the river so that the dredging machine employed by the PPA can start digging up silt in the bottom of the river.

If vacated, Guimaras-bound pump boats that dock at the Parola area can move up towards Muelle Loney area to give way to the construction of the multi-billion Guimaras-Iloilo Ferry Terminal System.

“You (PPA) should study if the transfer is possible so we can hasten the cleanup of the river and construction of the new ferry terminal,” Drilon said in the meeting.

The PPA is also set to remove the two remaining sunken vessels in Lapuz area to complete the clearing of derelicts in the river.

BACOLOD CITY—A radio blocktimer from Iloilo was gunned down late Monday afternoon by one of the two men on board a motorcycle in EB Magalona town, about 24 km from this city.
Police investigators, however, had yet to establish the motive in the killing of Niel Aranga Jimena, 42, a native of Lapaz District in Iloilo who had moved to Hacienda Teresa, Barangay Alicante in EB Magalona.
Jimena was a blocktimer for the defunct dyRP in Iloilo and dyAG in Cadiz City in Negros Occidental. He was set to start a blocktime program at Radio Mindanao Network-dyRI Iloilo on Tuesday night, according to his friend Larry Trinidad, a reporter of dyHB-RMN Bacolod.
Trinidad said the blocktimer was reportedly an asset for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and had worked for Dyaryo Iloilo.
EB Magalona police officer-in-charge SPO4 Leonardo Cobing said Jimena was heading north to Bacolod on board his motorcycle about 5:30 p.m. when two men on board another motorcycle chased and fired at him in Hacienda San Jose, Barangay Damgo, EB Magalona.
The chase continued until Jimena’s vehicle fell on its side in Barangay 3 Poblacion, said Cobing.
He said witnesses told the police that Jimena’s motorcycle appeared to have slowed down as he called for help after he was apparently hit.
Jimena suffered five gunshot wounds in the back from a .45-caliber pistol. He was brought to the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City where physicians declared him dead on arrival.
Cobing said this was the second time that Jimena was attacked.
In September 2009, Jimena was shot in the butt near Malago Bridge in Victorias City, Negros Occidental.

Gaisano Capital group enters real estate market
7:43 am | Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

A major retail company in Çebu is venturing into real estate industry with a multi-million-peso mixed-use property development called One Pavillion.

Work has already started and is targeted to be completed by 2014, said Nilo Miranda II, vice president for operations of Gold Peach Properties, a subsidiary of the Gaisano Capital Group that owns Gaisano South Mall chains in Cebu and other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.

One Pavillion is a 26-story project occupying a 5,600 square meter lot at R. Duterte Street in Banawa, Cebu City.

The mixed-used project will have commercial space and residential units, Miranda said.

The first and second floor will have a supermarket and shopping mall while the third to sixth floors will be used for parking lots.

The residential condos will start from the seventh to the 26th floor. There will be about 500 units, Miranda said.

The condominium will offer single bedrooms, two bedroom-units, the penthouse units and villas with gardens.

“Our prices are now at P90,000 per square meter. The one-bedroom unit would cost about P3 million,” said Miranda.

As of last Friday after two months of marketing the condominium, Miranda said 65 percent of the units were already sold.

He said this only showed that condominium projects continued to be in demand in Cebu.

“Our integrated concept is something that most of our buyers liked about our product,” he said.

The company aims to open the commercial segment by mid-2012. Turnover of units will start in the last quarter of 2014.

“We are also set to launch another property with the same concept in Mactan which will be bigger. This will be located near our existing mall along M.L. Quezon street,” Miranda said.

He said that Gold Peach Properties continues to look for other areas to invest and introduce their concept.

“We are confident with our product proposition and we are still seeing a huge demand from the market. We are looking at areas like Iloilo in Panay,” he said.

Have u read about this?

There is not enough traffic to support Bacolod Dumaguete even for a twice a week service. Not this time. Cebu bound traffic are mostly tourists and few business. Seair could possibly do Bacolod-Iloilo daily. They are considering it now.

EDIT: Although the damage has been done, they have already told the web-desk editors to change it. However, that's quite a big spank for the editors themselves. We may be human, but we have to keep on practicing the art of perfection (even though not anyone can achieve it).

What do we expect from most national historical sites? That's government speaking. Hehehehe!!! :D Not unless a private entity would donate something, like the Rizal Monument there courtesy of the Yuchengcos of RCBC.

At least it is protected by the law. Any modification without the permission of NHI or NCCA may cause some legal and cultural problems.

In fairness for Plaza Libertad, it has gone cleaner and better than it was before (notorious sa mga adik halin Zamora).

That may take some time sir. Since Plaza Libertad is a national historical site and is under ICCHCC. Philippine plazas are known to have trees in order to protect people against the searing heat of the tropical sun. We couldn't expect a Zocálo-like barren paved plaza for Iloilo City or else it'll be warm all over the area (hence, increase of power consumption for the city hall).

Nonetheless, they could at least trim down the trees a bit and I agree that they should do some beautification for Plaza Libertad and remove (ahem) the ABC (Association of Barangay Captains) Office there...:)

At least Plaza Libertad is easier to fix, than Jaro Plaza.

These are just some of the milestones of Megaworld.

Being accredited in the Philippine Stock Exchange and ISO Certified is a big indicator of its stability as a company.

You can also see that the TOWNSHIP Concept was launched last 1997 and has proven so much success in roughly 14 years.

On Business Process Outsourcing (BPO):
Since its humble beginnings, Megaworld has established a very strong pool of "Locators" - Mostly Multinational BPO Companies who seek to expand their business operations here in the Philippines. To name a few of these locators, we have:

Most of the time, generally Iloilo City that is prone to flooding because it is below sea level. Santa Barbara Heights on the other hand is Flood-free! – it is literally located on high ground.

Terrain Matters.
High ground is a rare place in Iloilo. More so if it takes the form of graceful sweeps and gentle rolls—as it does in Sta. Barbara. Here, one is uplifted into constant, fresh breezes and inspiring vistas. One need not be concerned with the annual rising of waters and inundations so common elsewhere.

More than 12,000 to join Iloilo City's 74th Charter Day parade

ILOILO CITY, Aug. 23 (PNA) – More than 12,000 participants from the City Hall, national government agencies (NGAs), schools, non-government organizations (NGOs), barangays and festival contingents are expected to join the grand civic parade here to highlight this city’s 74th Charter Day on Aug. 25.

“We are enjoining everyone to celebrate our Charter Day. This is part of our identity and pride as Ilonggos,” said Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog.

Administrative officer Armand Dicen of the City Tourism and Development Office, who oversees the parade preparation, said thousands will join the activity

The biggest number of participants will come from the city government and schools, which will combine almost 10,000 people, he said.

Road closures will start at 6 a.m. to 12 noon from La Paz plaza fronting La Paz Maternity Center, Burgos St. to Huervana St. when facing towards Gaisano City to Bonifacio Drive, passing Forbes Bridge up to Iloilo Provincial Capitol to F. Caram Avenue to Iznart St. facing Plazoleta Gay to JM Basa St. up to Freedom Grandstand.

Mabilog, Cong. Jerry P. Treñas and city councilors will lead the parade from La Paz district plaza starting 7 a.m.

Participants from NGAs will assemble at Mabini St., La Paz; NGOs and school delegates at Treñas Boulevard (beside Gaisano City); and barangay groups and festival performers at the Promenade near Drilon Bridge.

Adding color to the parade are various drum and bugle corps from city public and private schools, and performances of festival groups representing Dinagyang and Paraw Regatta during the program at Freedom Grandstand.

Mabilog institutionalized the Charter Day celebration when he became mayor last year.

Iloilo, as a chartered city, was formally inaugurated on Aug. 25, 1937 after the surrounding municipalities of La Paz, Mandurriao, Molo and Arevalo were merged with the progressive town of Iloilo on July 16, 1937, by virtue of Commonwealth Act No.158. very impressive. It's showing a high confidence of Ilonggos sa ciudad, both on how the government is doing and people coping with the progress/their living.

Drilon orders re-cadastral survey
of riverbank high-end subdivision

by Lydia C. Pendon

ILOILO CITY – Ilonggo Senator Franklin M. Drilon has ordered the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, especially its Land Management Services, to conduct a new cadastral survey on a riverbank high-end housing subdivision following reports that the landowner failed to secure a legitimate land title for the property.

The report was submitted last Friday, August 19 meeting of the Iloilo River Development Council chaired by city mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.

Drilon said the DENR must secure a copy of the land title if there is any, and if there is none, must start proceedings against the riverbank illegal structures of Southville Subdivision reportedly owned by businesswoman Conchita Tan in South San Jose, Molo district.

The DENR reported that several structures in that particular subdivision encroach at the restricted setback area of the river and affect the flow of the Iloilo River.

Drilon said the city and national governments are spending so much to clean and rehabilitate the Iloilo River and will not allow anyone to encroach on the river.

The Ilonggo senator also ordered to get certifications from Land Registration Authority, DENR and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to show that the structures at the riverbank have no titles or legally registered and in possession of anyone.

The river council will meet again on September 16, 2011 to discuss the updates of Drilon’s suggestions and actions taken by the concerned government agencies.

Not all. I'm using a laptop fan I bought for only PhP 180 for more than 2 years now and still working good, same with bluetooth dongle for my other lappy. So far the experience is alright. No problem whatsoever. But of course YMMV. ;)

Pilipinas, Tara Na! v.2
Words by: Rene Nieva
Composed by: Mike Villegas and Rico Blanco
Arranged by: Angelo Villegas

Ikaw ba'y nalulungkot
Naiinip, nababagot
Ikaw ba'y napapagod
Araw gabi’y puro kayod?

Buhay mo ba'y walang saysay
Walang sigla, walang kulay?
Bawa't araw ba'y pareho
Parang walang pagbabago?

Tara na, biyahe tayo
Kasama ang pamilya
Barkada at buong grupo
Para mag-enjoy ng todo.

Whoo!

Halika, biyahe tayo
Nang ating makita
Ang ganda ng Pilipinas
Ang galing ng Pilipino.
Ang galing ng Pilipino

Napasyal ka na ba
Sa Intramuros at Luneta
Palawan, Vigan at Batanes
Subic, Baguio at Rice Terraces?

Narating mo na ba
Ang Hundred Islands and Chocolate Hills
Pagudpud, Puerto Galera
Waterfalls ng Maria Cristina?

Tara na, biyahe tayo
Mula Basco hanggang Jolo
Nang makilala ng husto
Ang ating kapwa-Pilipino.

Halika, biyahe tayo
Nang ating makita
Ang ganda ng Pilipinas
Ang galing ng Pilipino.

RAP:
Libutin mo ang may pitong libo at isang daang isla
Ang minamahal kong Pilipinas
Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao ating puntahan
Huwag maging dayuhan sa sarili mong bayan!

Nasubukan mo na bang
Mag-rapids sa Pagsanjan
Mag-diving sa Anilao
Mag-surfing sa Siargao?

Nalasahan mo na ba
Ang Mangga ng Guimaras
Pancit Molo, Gensan Tuna
At Bagnet ng Ilocandia?

Tara na, biyahe tayo
Nang makatulong kahit pa'no
Sa pag-unlad ng kabuhayan
Ng ating mga kababayan.

Halika, biyahe tayo
Nang ating Makita
Ang ganda ng Pilipinas
Ang galing ng Pilipino.

Naabot mo na ba
Ang tuktok ng Mount Apo
Crater ng Pinatubo
Sagada sa Cordillera?

Natanaw mo na ba
Ang Butanding sa Donsol
Ang Tarsier at Tamaraw
Ang Haribon sa Mindanao?

Tara na, biyahe tayo!
Upang masilayan
Kariktan ng kalikasan
Na dapat pangalagaan.

Halika, biyahe tayo
Nang ating makita
Ang ganda ng Pilipinas
Ang galing ng Pilipino.

Tara na, biyahe tayo
Upang ating matamo
Ligaya at pagkakaibigan
Kaunlaran, kapayapaan.

Halika, biyahe tayo
Nang ating makita
Ang ganda ng Pilipinas
Ang galing ng Pilipino.

RAP:
Halika’t samahan natin ang bawat Pilipino
Sumakay sa kalesa, barko, o kahit pa eroplano

Speaking of Tourism... look at what my mother's province of birth have in mind when it comes to promotion.

I think we can do the same, with the current advances in technology and popularity of Social Networking sites, making a unique ad as a selling point also becomes cheaper... I may also go the lengths of saying that it is doubly effective as well. :)

Alas, what we lack in DOT VI or Iloilo Tourism for that matter is not FUND but IDEAS and 'DISKARTE.' :ohno:
So sad, really.

as always busy lang ya ang City Tourism Office promote Dinagyang and partly, Paraw Regatta but after those 2 events, they go back to sleep till the 1st quarter of next year. they dont mind promoting other attractions and tourism-related activities sa ciudad whole year round.

sayang, kadamo gid tani ways nga ma-promote ang ciudad but naging dependent na gid sila katama sa Dinagyang.

like DOT Region-6, mas malala pa gid ya ang sa Provincial Gov't.:bash::bash::bash:

City readies road closure
for 6 major infra projects

By Lydia C. Pendon

ILOILO CITY – The city government here will close for traffic starting September 1, 2011 six major road sections to start the construction.

City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that district engineer Jose Al Fruto of the Department of Public Works and Highways had requested the closure of selected national roads covered by the DPWH work program.

Fruto said the road closure is inevitable in order to finish the project the soonest time possible. The district engineer is also requesting the city mayor’s assistance in the possible rerouting of vehicular traffic along the affected road sections until completion of the projects.

Mabilog disclosed that the projects are funded by the national government with assistance from the priority development assistance funds of Senator Franklin Drilon and city lone district congressman Jerry P. Treñas.

DPWH is implementing the rehabilitation and repair of damaged road at the Iloilo-Capiz road (new route), Jaro-Leganes section and will require a partial road closure for a minimum period of 120 days from the start of actual work.

Total road closure is also requested for a minimum of six months for the reconstruction of the Dungon Bridge along El 98 St. in Jaro district. The total road closure is inevitable inasmuch as the alignment of the new bridge will retain the original alignment of the existing bridge.

Partial road closure for 60 days will be implemented for the asphalt overlay project along Peralta St. in the city proper, 90 days for concreting the Airport Direct Road and 90 days for concreting of Rizal St. junction at Muelle Loney Bridge to Huervana St. in La Paz district.

Mabilog said the city government will grant a permit for the road closures and instructed Mitch Antiqueña, chief of the Traffic Management and Transport Regulation Office (TMTRO) to look into the situation and find possible reroute roads for vehicular traffic.

Mayor orders strict monitoring of illegal settlers in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY, Aug. 24 (PNA) -- Amid the existence of squatting syndicates in several relocation sites owned by the city government, Mayor Jed Patrick has ordered the Iloilo City’s Urban Poor Affairs Office (Icupao) to validate all the more than 5,000 illegal settlers who have availed of the accommodation under the city’s socialize housing program.

The city government owns 29 relocation sites covering about 50 hectares within the metropolis. These include 22 off-sites, which means the city government has bought land for the relocatees, and seven on-sites that already have existing raw houses at the time these were converted into relocation sites.

These off-sites are in the areas of Sooc in Arevalo district, villages from Lanit, San Isidro and Buntatala, all of Jaro district, and San Isidro in La Paz district; while the on-sites are in the villages of San Juan, East Timawa, East Baluarte, and South Fundidor, all in Molo district and Santo Nino Sur in Arevalo district

According to Wilfredo Jurilla, chief of Icupao, they have already withdrawn 15 lots from the lot beneficiaries who were caught selling their granted lots to other occupants after the practice of the squatting syndicates has been disclosed through the regular site visit and validation by a detailed supervisor per site area.

Jurilla said majority of the withdrawn lots were from San Isidro in Jaro district.

At present, all site supervisors are strictly monitoring and validating occupants of each granted lot to prevent this kind of modus operandi, he added.

Jurilla said he has also coordinated with Councilor Joshua Alim, city council chairman on police matters, to sponsor an ordinance penalizing those behind the squatting syndicates.

He also suggested to the councilor to penalize both the sellers and the buyers.

Jurilla said he also wants corresponding penalty for the barangay officials who tolerate the illegal settlers to temporarily occupy the government-owned properties in the city. (PNA)
