Pro-Friends launches Monticello Villas

Suno sa aton nga Philippine Grid Code, the standard right of way clearance for High Voltage lines is that from the middle of the structure it should be 7.5 meters towards the sides or a total of 15 meters right of way. NGCP the one who manage our transmission lines has an exist agreement with the local government and planning office to forbid the construction of buildings, sheds or other structures underneath or below the transmission lines.

daw iban na rooms daw gin himo na di nila nga dorm...tubang lang ni daan sang CPU...a bit pricey for me...one room daw 8k-10k/month...tsk...and damu na da Korean students nga ga dorm bala mu...kag mga taga iban nga probinsya nga ari di sa Iloilo ga school...

nami na da mag tambay sa 6th floor, inom inom kag kaon ah...kilid nia na dayun is another 6-storey building Maryam Dormitory...dorm sang mga "pasosyal" sa school sang una...:lol:

Based my first year and a half in and Iloilo and several months in Cebu City, I find Ilonggos, male and female, to have a reserve and seriousness which differentiates them from the more outgoing Cebuanos and even Tagalogs. They seem serious, proud, industrious, honest, and pious compared the more fun-loving Cebuanos or Tagalogs. Beyond the reserve, I find Ilonggos to be honest, kind, and courteous but don't expect them to fawn over you because you're a foreigner...

... The upside of this is that the foreigner is more a curiosity than an opportunity and is generally left in peace and treated with respect. It's unusual for me to be overcharged or otherwise taken solicited or taken advantage of because I'm a foreigner. There are not so many beggars. Sometimes when I do see children begging money, they will approach other Filipinos or my wife but not me. I have never been approached by prostitutes or other hustlers. "Hey Joe give me money" is rare here. I relate the relative lack of begging and prostitution to Ilonggo pride.

I ride jeepneys almost every day. I walk the streets downtown. So far, I have never had even a hint of a problem with crime or pickpockets, although friends have. On the contrary, I left a bag with cellphone and digital camera behind when getting off the jeepney. Fellow riders stopped me to be sure I did not forget the bag. If I drop something, multiple people rush to make sure I get it back. There is a robust police presence in many parts of Iloilo City. I do not wander the streets at night. If you do your mileage may vary."

Then you have the Aduana complementing the beauty of the New Iloilo City Hall. In a good weather, its a post card worthy view. :okay:

Then you have Guimaras as the background and slightly covered with haze... almost perfect. :)

I just hope that with these real estate developments, it would be compensated with road infrastructure and probably an effective traffic management and mass public transport system. Its not just about putting another flyover (which I believe is not the be all, do all), but its also on how MIDC would implement their traffic scheme and encourage people to take public transport instead of purchasing more cars.

The more cars there are, the more clogged the streets would turn out to be...given that Iloilo is an old city itself.

‘Swiss challenge’ for Panay Railways rehab

PROPONENTS of Panay Railways rehabilitation will use the “Swiss challenge” mode of procurement in selecting the investor in the P16-billion project.

Ceasar S. Capellan, Panay Railways Inc. (PRI) director and officer-in-charge, said the Swiss challenge will hasten the bidding process of the project while ensuring full transparency and the best possible deal for government.

Under the "Swiss challenge", PRI will publish in a newspaper of general circulation a proposal for the project so that other potential investors can challenge or offer a lower price proposal.

"For example, if the Korean investor submits first their proposal, we will publish it to initiate the Swiss challenge. If there is another group or firm that offers a lower price, the original proponent shall be given 90 days to match the lower price offer. If the original project proponent fails to match the lower price proposal submitted, the contract shall be awarded to the tenderer of the lowest price. If, on the other hand, the original project proponent matches the submitted lowest price, we will conduct a competitive bidding between the two firms that presented the lowest price offer," Capellan said

Capellan said they aim to wrap up the bidding process before end of 2011 so they can start preliminary works on the railway project.

Among the companies who showed interest in the project are the Metro Pacific Investments Corp. of Manuel V. Pangilinan, San Miguel Corp. of Eduardo Cojuangco and Century Properties Group.

Other potential investors include SIBC Holdings Co., Ltd and Gyeongin Engineering Co. Ltd. from South Korea and their local partner Green Asia Construction and Development Corp.

PRI eyes to start rehabilitation of the Iloilo-Capiz railway line early next year and will cost around P16 billion. The project will be implemented through public-private partnership (PPP) or build-operate-transfer (BOT) scheme after the Department of Transportation and Communications nixed the railway revival as “too expensive.”

The National Economic and Development Authority and the Regional Development Council of Western Visayas have approved and endorsed the feasibility study of the project.

I believe some of you play simcity here, everytime nga may i-add ka nga neighbor connection kag transport infrastructure, naga-boost ang economic activities sang city. This is so true. I commend the private sector for taking the initiative. The DOTC cannot be relied for now if this is the case.

If I were the DOTC chief, I would support this especially when the private sector will finance this and the gov't will NOT BE IN DEBT. :omg: Where can you find a infra project being oppossed by the gov't when in fact they have nothing to do but just coordinate for the success of the project! Indi pa na sila nga I-finance na gani! sang private sector! Kung ang private sector willing mag-initiate sang project, it means nga private-owned ang infra, not even BOT. The least the national gov't (DOTC) can do is to help them realize this.

Where can you find a multi-billion investment being rejected by the national gov't of a country? ONLY HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES!!! :ohno::ohno::ohno: C/O MARU

Okay, I believe at this point, there is nothing that Maru can do. One thing's for sure, I am dismayed by his decisions. Whatever issues he has for a place, he must set aside as a professional.

I still love my hometown even if I am already here in Pasig. I hope all of us Ilonggos feel the same way, too.

@ Mayor JPM, he is so assertive, if not aggressive in promoting, beautifying and improving the city in terms of economics and culture. We have to be very thankful for having such a good mayor.

I am not saying this is true, but if in case he is having some benefits in one way or the other as a mayor (you know what I mean :2cents::2cents::2cents:), I believe he truly deserves it, given his performance. So if a mediocre local tabloid ever publishes another black propaganda, I say SO WHAT!!! He deserves it anyway "if its true".

That's also my sentiment, in some way.

I mean, so far, from what I know, daw waay pa man sang kurakot na gina himo sa Mayor JPM, no pavia housing scandal, no ghost employees, nothing concrete so far.

Still, despite this, gina bantayan siya ni Ynion like a hawk. I mean, waay pa gani sang corruption na gina himo si mayor, ga singgitan na ang iban na corrupt si mayor and naga pa gwa na sang kung ano ano and tama gid ka higpit sang ila bantay sa mayor.

So I'm pretty sure that Mayor JPM will think twice or thrice before committing any corrupt act because sa situation subong na waay pa siya gani corruption allegations gina bantayan na sya sang todo, how much more kung may ara na gid sya sang actual na corrupt practices na na commit? mas grabe pa gid guro eh...this, in a way, makes me thankful for ynion's presence.... =)

Good question, bro. If you notice when you stroll around the city or when you observe our kasimanwa's conversations, we are more pre-occuppied by our jobs, if not things that really matter for us humans. Many of our kasimanwas are not politically inclined not like other groups. Also, politics is not really a hot issue nowadays, even an awkward one; you could often hear the cliche, "hay, pamulitika naman!" when a political issue is being brought up. Another value that I quite like for Ilonggos is that many of us, if not most do not mind other people's business. Many a times you could hear people saying "ano na ang labot mo sa iya man!" but of course, there is an exception to the rule. Lastly, INVESTEMENTS ARE POURING OUT SO SWIFTLY IN THE MEDIA, many Ilonggos find it quite absurd, given our previous governmental culture of mouth service only and not making it for real. I think it come to pass that most of us believe in the principle "to see is to believe". Some people buy newspapers that they don't even read.

Amen! Come to think of it, Ynion's loquacious presence is quite a blessing in disguise. Now the mayor is in constant aware of the checks and balances from a private entity. This is a true blessing for us Ilonggos for the circumstances have given us a hardworking and dynamic mayor, as well as corrupt-free.

A rare circumstance in the Philippines. We are blessed.

THE Vatican has chosen a Catholic church in Iloilo City to host its first exhibit of world's Eucharistic Miracles set in November.

The exhibit will run from November 7 at the Parish of the Immaculate Concepcion in Tanza St., Iloilo City.

The exhibit will showcase an assortment of photographs in over 100 panels with documented Eucharistic Miracles that took place through the years in several countries and recognized by the Catholic church.

Okay, safe to say that if the momentum of investments in the city and the province will be sustained, if not beefed up further, the skyline will surely be set anew in the near future. Iloilo will hopefully be an important financial center to rise in the Philippines.

I still love my hometown even if I am already here in Pasig. I hope all of us Ilonggos feel the same way, too.

I'm soooooooooo happy too bisan wala ako sa Lilo. . . Hopefully, I will be there in 2013 to see the Dinagyang. By that time, many structures are already standing. . .

MANILA, Philippines - The police force in Iloilo City is urging the local government to pass an ordinance penalizing "usiseros."

Senior Superintendent Marietto Valerio, Iloilo City police chief, said that the city police's proposal is inspired by Manila City Ordinance No. 8247, which penalizes people who will cross the police line.

Under the ordinance, "usiseros" will be asked to pay a fine of P5,000 or ordered jailed for 15 days or both.

Private schools have been encouraged to play and sing the official Iloilo City hymn during flag raising ceremonies and other activities.

Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said the city hymn fosters unity among Ilonggos to work as one people for the development and advancement of the metropolis.

He enjoined every school and government offices here to play and sing the hymn in official activities.

Thus, private schools are also advised to secure a copy of the city hymn at the Administrative Division of City Mayor's Office at City Hall.

Executive assistant for education Ma. Mathilde Treñas-Octavio noted that Superintendent Nelly Valerio of Department of Education Division of Iloilo City requested the playing and singing of city hymn, during a symposium with the private school heads.

Regarding Mar, he has already dissapointed a lot in Capiz, Negros and Iloilo. If you know the story of the whole clan, you might just be surprised that they are not as united under him. He didn't won at the bailiwicks of both Roxas and Aranetas since the people and even the clan itself feel that he never gave real support to their hometowns.

Dinagyang 2012 to launch 11-11-11

ILOILO CITY, Oct. 21 (PNA) – The 44th celebration next year of this city’s premier festival, the Dinagyang, will be officially launched on November 11.

Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said it will be a grand Dinagyang 2012 as Ilonggos celebrate the Diamond Jubilee Year, marking the 75th year of the city’s Charter.

Venue of the launching will be at SM City mall, though the program and other plans related to the festival are still being finalized, according to city tourism officer Benito Jimena.

The city government, Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc. (IDFI) and San Jose Parish will also sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the management of the festival.

Prior to this, Mabilog is set to sign an executive order on the composition of working committees for Dinagyang 2012 upon his return from official trips to China and Korea by end of the month, Jimena said.

Slated on January 21 to 22, Dinagyang 2012’s tagline is “Beyond Awards, a Culture of Excellence.”
Mabilog wants the festival to be more than just the recognition it has received and continue to obtain, as it focuses more on being a festival worthy of emulation.

Jimena explained the management of Dinagyang is now concentrating in inculcating a culture of excellence that will become the benchmark that others will follow and replicate.

“We want it to be sustainable and replicable,” he said.

Through the years, Dinagyang has made a track record no other festival has achieved, gaining global recognitions and representing the country in various international events, Jimena stated.

The Dinagyang 2011 edition is a finalist in the Project Award category of the International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom) to be hosted by South Korea on October 27 to 31.

Mabilog leads the Iloilo City delegation going to Seoul for the final presentation.

The 2011 festival edition has also been qualified for site validation by the Galing Pook Awards Foundation.

Jimena said the validating team conducted a random interview on Friday of stakeholders and beneficiaries to determine the festival’s results and impact on the community, how it has promoted people’s participation and empowerment, the innovations introduced, and proof of transferability and sustainability of the project. PCA to cover 60T hectares for its coconut planting project in W. Visayas

ILOILO CITY, Oct. 21 (PNA) – The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) regional office here is targeting some 60,000 hectares in Western Visayas for its coconut planting project that will kick off before the outset of the rainy season.

PCA regional manager Jose S. Cruz said he is just waiting for a go-signal from AAMBIS-OWA Party-list Rep. Sharon S. Garin to start with the distribution of dwarf coconut seedlings. The AAMBIS-OWA allotted fund for the purchase of coconut seedlings.

Cruz also said he was elated with the report of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) of the continuous rain even extending until summer as he cited that such climate is favorable to coconuts.

Cruz said that the bulk of the seedlings will be given to nearby provinces such as Iloilo, Antique and Aklan because these are closer to the PCA office and considering that they do not have the provision for transportation.

Together with the provision of coconut seedlings will be organic fertilizer and vegetable seeds, Cruz said.

Meantime, he said that farmers have options whether or not to use the organic fertilizer for the coconut or for growing the vegetables. However, it would be better if they go on an inter-cropping so that both can benefit from the fertilizer. (PNA)
