In fact, this is the right term for those old buildings in Calle Real for them to be renovated and reinvigorated. Sa heritage conservation, "adaptive reuse" ang tawag sina, kag damu guid makabenepisyo sini. I think some of the folks here have heard about the news that the Manila Post Office would be turned into a five star hotel. I am wishing also the same for Calle Real, most especially that one in Aldeguer-JM Basa.

Megaworld
Urban property developer Megaworld Corporation has acquired the 54-hectare old airport lot in Mandurriao for P1.2B. Megaworld has also announced plans to invest P1.5B to develop it into a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) hub, the first ever in Western Visayas.
The proposed 54.5 hectare Iloilo Business Park by Megaword will adopt a concept of "live-work-play-learn community." It will have BPO offices, residential condominiums, a hotel, convention center, commercial and retail center, skills training center and recreational facilities. The investment by Megaworld in Iloilo is the first investment made by the corporation outside Manila.
MEGAWORLD Iloilo shows some ongoing wide clearing and landscaping activities along the area where BPO offices, residential condominiums, a hotel, convention center, commercial and retail center, skills training center and recreational facilities that will emerge one by one soon.
The asphalt runway of the old Iloilo Airport will be turned into 8 lane highway and will be the main artery of the Iloilo Business Park. Along this road will be mostly low-rise to mid-rise buildings (up to 12 floors) for commercial spaces including BPO offices. At the center of the property is a large space for a 5,000-seater convention center and a hotel. At the southern end is reserved for a hyper mart and a theme park, both of which will be developed after the other components.
Plazuela de Iloilo
Local business tycoons in Iloilo are really competing a lot with the national players in the infrastructure developments of the city. The establishment is a Spanish-Italian styled building called Plazuela de Iloilo designed by the most notable Palafox and Associates who are also tasked to do the Iloilo City urban planning. This will host retail stores, coffee shops and restaurants in the ground floor and BPO locators in the second floor. The project is located along Diversion Road at the old Nes 'n Tats Restaurant beside SM City Iloilo that will really compliment and boost the shopping and dining potential of the area. The construction project details and features are as follows:

· Elevated at 2.05M from the hi-way as it was envisioned to be “flood free”

Ayala Iloilo Techno hub
The Ayala Iloilo Techno hub is a two-hectare property along Diversion Road, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. This techno hub will be highly secured, highly accessible to public transportation and registered with PEZA. It is located near existing retail establishments and nearby hotels. It planned for two sets of BPO buildings with at least 7, 500 sq.m. with an approximately 2,500 sq.m. floor plate/building.

TTW Corporate Center
The building known as “Cine Eagle” in the past is currently undergoing renovation and will be transformed into a modern building with the proposed name – “TTW Corporate Center.” The renovation will involve covering the building in aluminum cladding and applying glass panel windows. The first floor will be occupied by food shops and the upper floors by commercial offices.

Just came from Roxas City. The roads are now good, except for some portions of Passi and Duenas. :okay: But I'm just curious, I hope Zynet may answer, why DPWH destroys a road that is still in good condition, then repair it? Saw those in Sigma and Dao and some areas in Passi-Duenas area.

Yeah. Ugaling I just find it strange that while the rest of Iloilo-Capiz Road is all good from City to Dingle, Duenas and Passi (before city proper if coming from Iloilo) seem to be "left behind." Afterwards city proper, its smooth sailing all the way to Roxas. And this is a major thoroughfare in Panay.
This is a national road. Shouldn't it be the national government that takes action on this one or does it need "in aid of legislation" from LGUs?

The Iloilo City Government is pushing for amendment on a certain provision of the Perimeter Boundary Ordinance (PBO) to allow tourist buses to enter major thoroughfares of the metropolis.
Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said the possible granting of special permits to tourist buses will prop up the metropolis’ potentials as heritage or museum city.
The City Council has started deliberating on the proposed amendment to the PBO to give leeway to tourist buses in entering the main streets of the metropolis.
City Tourism Officer Ben Jimena said they are conducting actual “Glimpses of City” heritage tour for major stakeholders to assess the viability of granting special permits for tourist buses to pass through city’s historical and cultural sites and attractions.
Jimena expects the amended ordinance to be “fair to guests and constituents as we showcase Iloilo as Heritage City in line with the tourism and investment promotion program enshrined in our tagline ‘My City, My Pride’.”
The Iloilo Tour Guides Cooperative wanted the tourist buses to ply visitors along the city’s heritage streets such as J.M. Basa St., City Proper which is a version of Escolta or shopping capital and financial district home to age-old buildings; Gen. Hughes St., City Proper as “Beverly Hills” where affluent families used to live; E. Lopez St., Jaro as famed “millionaire’s row” with the presence of grand mansions and old houses; and Gen. Luna St., City Proper cited as “university belt” with four of the seven universities present along the stretch.

The Iloilo City Government is pushing for amendment on a certain provision of the Perimeter Boundary Ordinance (PBO) to allow tourist buses to enter major thoroughfares of the metropolis.
Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said the possible granting of special permits to tourist buses will prop up the metropolis’ potentials as heritage or museum city.
The City Council has started deliberating on the proposed amendment to the PBO to give leeway to tourist buses in entering the main streets of the metropolis.
City Tourism Officer Ben Jimena said they are conducting actual “Glimpses of City” heritage tour for major stakeholders to assess the viability of granting special permits for tourist buses to pass through city’s historical and cultural sites and attractions.
Jimena expects the amended ordinance to be “fair to guests and constituents as we showcase Iloilo as Heritage City in line with the tourism and investment promotion program enshrined in our tagline ‘My City, My Pride’.”
The Iloilo Tour Guides Cooperative wanted the tourist buses to ply visitors along the city’s heritage streets such as J.M. Basa St., City Proper which is a version of Escolta or shopping capital and financial district home to age-old buildings; Gen. Hughes St., City Proper as “Beverly Hills” where affluent families used to live; E. Lopez St., Jaro as famed “millionaire’s row” with the presence of grand mansions and old houses; and Gen. Luna St., City Proper cited as “university belt” with four of the seven universities present along the stretch.

Iloilo City is indeed beautiful considering nga na-preserve ta pa ang aton mga old buildings esp along Calle Real. That's the testament of our glorious past. Damo gid ina dira mga history. I hope they'll continue to make Calle Real and the rest of Heritage sites around the city presentable for our visitors and tourists to see.:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:

redsnapper March 20th, 2012, 04:03 PM "Iloilo Masonic Temple Building located opposite of the Catholic Church" I think they should reconsider regulating the signages in order not to block the details of the heritage buildings. tani may standard sizes. kanugon ga pinagusto lang. the committee should clean up those old ang unused signages. and also ang mga signages sang mga smart, globe, sun. maski diin lang and sometimes daw tyangge ang pag plastar. it's only a small detail but it's still part of the big picture...san inyo be??

Signages are one of the most challenging parts in heritage conservation, since most of the business owners don't like to have their big signs and "kumikitang kabuhayan billboards" like that "scar on the face Sun cellular" in Locsin-Coscullella Building in Plazoleta Gay billboard.

Because they were the ones who developed Eastwood City Libis, which is now a prime address for most BPO and IT companies in Metro Manila, and a premiere night out gimmick spot in QC. Same as with Newport City (Resorts World Manila), and McKinley Hill (south of Bonifacio Global and sites of the British and South Korean Embassy).
And seeing that happen in Iloilo, it was even more exciting.

yeah MW at that time was like a nobody to me compared to Ayala, SM and Rob who also bid for the airport property...when I studied in MM still, MW was like a nobody to me, I would have wished that Ayala was the one who will develop IBP when I went to Makati CBD...until I saw NewPort City, McKinley Hill and Eastwood, I was like :eek: and now that MW's IBP's construction is full-blast can't wait to see the transformation...

The roads are now good, except for some portions of Passi and Duenas. :okay: But I'm just curious, I hope Zynet may answer, why DPWH destroys a road that is still in good condition, then repair it? Saw those in Sigma and Dao and some areas in Passi-Duenas area.
i think that road section was program for 2012-13 infra project (passi duenas)

just asking, is it by nature na walang kahoy lumago dito?
If I am right, trees are unable to grow here because the soil is acidic or the topsoil has been washed away by erosion rendering the land infertile. As to what made the soild acidic or infertile, I don't know.. :D

indi man ako expert dra pro nka bati lng ko sa mga forestry bla. nga amo gid na kuno ya ang composition sang ina nga bukid bush/grass land..
sakto gid na nga infertile na sya.. may mga program dra we back 80's for reforestation pero daw wala gid mag success because of soil kag land structure.
basi bala solid rock na sya kay notice sa picture daw wala mn sang patches nga may erosion or prevalent ang erosion sa sina nga bukid..

These photos taken dec.2011 show how the Phil.Ports Authority are working closely with ICCHCC and the city of Iloilo, to ensure that the new three storey building will preserve its old world charm yet have state=of-the-arts facilities to service inter-island traffic in Western Visayas. This featured building was built in 1925 on the site where the Spanish Government had an old building. The present building still possesses walls and columns built by local stone masonry methods. Style in 1925 was built on the Beaux Arts style so popularly during the Sugar Boom times of the early 1900s. When rebuilt it will have its old facade back with a spanking new building adapted to its original design. Old masonry that can still be exhibited for future generations will be preserved. Disturbing structures that have no permit from PPA that only narrow the road will be demolished. What we can expect in the near future is a neo-classical line of buildings starting with this iconic structure, the new city hall, and the custom’s house looking a bit like the “Bund” in Shanghai, welcoming guests to this unique heritage city of Iloilo.(NG)

It would be nice kung may nga high-end shops nga mag-sulod sa Iloilo and sila na mag-renovate sang buildings nga ni. And with more alternative routes/roads underconstruction as well, what else we can ask for? Maybe start planning flyovers within the boundaries of the city?

Of course, not to mention its massive land area for development in Sta Barbara, too. Iloilo is indeed lucky to host 2 projects of Megaworld.

These photos taken dec.2011 show how the Phil.Ports Authority are working closely with ICCHCC and the city of Iloilo, to ensure that the new three storey building will preserve its old world charm yet have state=of-the-arts facilities to service inter-island traffic in Western Visayas. This featured building was built in 1925 on the site where the Spanish Government had an old building. The present building still possesses walls and columns built by local stone masonry methods. Style in 1925 was built on the Beaux Arts style so popularly during the Sugar Boom times of the early 1900s. When rebuilt it will have its old facade back with a spanking new building adapted to its original design. Old masonry that can still be exhibited for future generations will be preserved. Disturbing structures that have no permit from PPA that only narrow the road will be demolished. What we can expect in the near future is a neo-classical line of buildings starting with this iconic structure, the new city hall, and the custom’s house looking a bit like the “Bund” in Shanghai, welcoming guests to this unique heritage city of Iloilo.(NG)

Kasadyahan Festival in Iloilo - Philippines
One of the two important events that compose the famous and appealing Dinagyang Festival in the province of Iloilo, Kasadyahan Festival reveals the true culture and history of Ilonggos. Every year, many locals and tourist spend some time in Iloilo City to view this splendid, attractive, and interesting. At this celebration, people can watch enjoyable and beautiful cultural presentations that depict the culture of early people in the province. At this festival, tourists can also enjoy different delicacies in Iloilo since participants and local government prepare a feast for everyone.
How to Get to Iloilo City
Every last weekend of January, Kasadyahan Festival is annually held in the beautiful and historic City of Iloilo. Individuals from the other regions of the country who want to observe this celebration should travel to some of the major Philippine cities like Cebu City and Manila City to take flights to Iloilo airport, or they can also ride in roll-on roll-off vessels bound to Iloilo seaport. From the ports, people can easily find taxis and jeepneys that can transport them to Iloilo City. Estimated travel time from the Iloilo airport and seaport to the city proper is half hour.
What to See in the Festival
For those who want to be informed about the culture and history of Ilonggos, they should spend some time watching the cultural presentations at Kasadyahan Festival. Dance presentations at this special celebration usually feature different groups that represent or depict early tribes in the place. Some of the tribes that are commonly featured at this event are Tribu Tultugan, Tribu Madiaas, and Tribu Kasag. Aside from these, people can also have a glance at the culture of Tribu Kahilwayan and Tribu Bayhulay through the dance numbers represented by some dance groups in Iloilo.
History
With the aim of promoting the culture and history of Iloilo, Kasadyahan Festival is conceptualized by the local residents and provincial government in the late 1900s. Every year, dance groups, private corporations, and nonprofit organizations in Iloilo support this special celebration. To attract local groups to participate in the cultural presentations, the government gives special cash prizes to winners. For those who want to observe this event, they do not need to allot huge amount to money as their budget just to see the festival. For less than 500 pesos, including their transportation expenses from Iloilo airport and seaport, as well as their food allowance for a day, they can already have a good and remarkable time watching the special events featured at this celebration.

Now on its 39th year, the Iloilo Paraw Regatta is the oldest traditional craft event in Asia, and the largest sailing event in the Philippines. The Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation currently organizes the activities, with leading support from the Iloilo City and Provincial Governments and the Department of Tourism, along with private sector donations.
Activities have been expanded to spread over a week. On the Saturday of the climactic weekend there is slalom racing on a course by the beach to facilitate crowd participation. On the Sunday, the thirty-kilometer distance race is sailed on a course in the Iloilo Strait, running up the coast of Panay and then down the coast of Guimaras, before returning to the finish at Villa Beach. Participant exposure to the events is in the tens of thousands.
The geophysical shape of the Iloilo Strait provides year round breezes. Thus the working sailboat still predominates. In these times of high fuel costs, and polluting oil spills, one can appreciate the simple ecology of the traditional paraw. Nevertheless, the skills needed to sail are far more complex.
The objective of the Regatta is to celebrate the skills of the paraw sailors, and bring a fiesta spirit into their lives. And with the colorful painted sails, this spirit is brought into the lives of participants and tourists as well.

Despite being the 4th busiest airport in the country handling 1,581,304 passengers in 2010 and operating for almost five years already, ILO is still spick-and-span.

Now that Robinson's is constructing the Go Hotel (*cough* Cybergate Tower *cough*) and Megaworld is being well... Megaworld (IBP really looks like a replica of Global city minus the high rises), It's gonna be a big welcoming for 2015! ^_____^

Airphil Express (2P) is the first airline company to address the long clamor for direct flights from Iloilo (ILO) to General Santos (GES) and vice versa. The new ILO-GES route will commence on March 23, 2012 with a three times a week regular schedule (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).

Airphil Express will be utilizing an Airbus A320 aircraft to service this route with a estimated flight duration of about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

AirPhil has reduced its ILO-DVO flights to 4x per week from daily to accommodate ILO-GES, which runs alternatively, 3x daily.
