Ti, balik naman ta sini sa aton "the usual". Post-post naman ta diutay. Very nice articles and all. I'm glad to read them one by one migs. nice to see you back. Umpisai na da posting mo pero hinay-hinay lang kay basi mabuta mo ang thread gulpi. Take time migo. aga mo pa nadakpan si Space. Ano nagsulod sa ulo ni Space kung ngaa may plano pa siya ubahan ang mga statues dira sa Arroyo Fountain. Ginpabayu-an na gani ina. Loved the photos of the fountain anyway. I'm glad to see nga naga-andar na siya. paano kay manami gid pamangkot niya about sa Arroyo Fountain. Kabudlay may dig mga artifacts unless naka-archive siya. Tani may makita lang ko nga article about it. :) nice promotion for Dinagyang and Iloilo City. Amo ina iya ang tunay nga world-class, Kung diin ang United Nation forum, ato man ang Dinagyang. I hope Dinagyang Festival will continue to live up to UN's expectations. They're there to promote UN's MDGs and v.v. with UN helping in other way promoting Dinagyang and Iloilo City across the globe. Kung si Manoy Wecky pa, keep 'em coming ! A good fete for Dinagyang and Iloilo City's promotional campaign. I wish to read more of Dinagyang invading Europe or European cities kay mas manami pa gid ina siya. Pirmi di nga daan may meeting ang UN, mostly in Switzerland and France. Matabo ini ayhan in a year's time? wecky February 15th, 2007, 02:45 PM ^^ Happy 35th Foundation Anniversary to Iloilo Doctor's College ! Been there several times last month sa IDC! Damo na gid improvement sa Doctor's. It was my first time to step into their new auditorium. Very nice. Daw dira na gani naga-hang-out kung kaisa ang mga estudyante. wecky February 15th, 2007, 02:51 PM enjoy your trip to Iloilo, Eric and Bernie. Don't forget to take lots of photos of Paraw Regatta and the Chinese New Year. Aga pa ara na si Eric sa Iloilo City. I think the Chinese New Year program will start sa hapon pa so makahingabot ka gid. Enjoy again. Yes. Enjoy your vacations guys ! http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/wecky/ILOILO2007-LONDON2007100.jpg very nice property! It doesn't look European to me. It's more of a Soutern American style. It's more like it. I could not see any European touch on it.  Maybe sa ngalan niya lang @kirby. spacewagon1 February 15th, 2007, 05:05 PM KIrby, welcome back. Nice to see all articles and photos abounding this thread. I hope to see more in days to come. Bernie, Eric and Juicydude, enjoy your Iloilo Visit. Si SugarFreak and si Zyanz gali dira man sa Iloilo Doctor's College naka-base. Again, enjoy you Iloilo Chinese New Year and Paraw Regatta this coming Saturday and Sunday. spacewagon1 February 15th, 2007, 05:18 PM Kadamo gali special zones ta sa Iloilo yet none of them seems successful sa panulkan ko lang iya ha. So why keep on creating more zones pa. We can always promote these areas to investors. Isn't it nga kada zone nga ini may chairman or committees nga naga-handle sa ila? Or basi wala man. I-declare lang ang area nga special economic zone and leave it as is. Abi, basi may idea kamo? Kay Pavia was RAIC ages ago pa. Only to realise til the present nga indi man gid damo nga heavy industries dira sa Pavia, Rather, Pavia is becoming more of a residential towns where bigger subdivisions are found. I want to see Pavia hosting more industries (heavy or light) to make up sang iya titulo nga Regional Agro-Industrial Center of Western Visayas since Aquino regime pa. I-change ta ang title sang Pavia from RAIC to RRC (Regional Residential Center) Puwede ina ayhan? Puwede gid ma-enumerate ang mga industries dira sa Pavia like Coca-Cola, San Miguel (?), Vitarich, B-Meg ano pa? Help me out here to list all industries located in Pavia, Iloilo. Even sa Leganes, I haven't heard any light industries nga ara didto. I-try ko abi surf ang different towns sang proinsiya and kung ano ang mga economic indicators and investments sa ila area subong. Wowoweeeeee! Ma-start na gali ang construction sang bag-o nga city hall next month. Well, another good news sa mga city residents. Other than that, indi man siguro ma-pierde ang Robinson's Iloilo in exchange of their free hosting bangud sa there'll be more people visiting sang ila mall. All people na naga-transact negosyo, etc sa city will be visiting Robinson's na. More or less, ang wala gana mag-shopping, maganyat na lang mag-shopping kundi alang-alangon. That's right. At least we have the budget na. And sigurado na gid ini amidst election ban. Pero two years of construction? Daw kadugay gid ini iya haw? It's only a seven-storey building. Siguro puwede naman nga for a year lang. Sabagay, one year nga bukbukanay sang old city hall and one year nga construction sang bag-o. he he. spacewagon1 February 15th, 2007, 05:27 PM nice promotion for Dinagyang and Iloilo City. Biskan diin bato. Wala pa man siguro makatupong sa Dinagyang subong. I'm glad UN chose Dinagyang as their instrument for promotion their development goals. Ti, libre na ina nga promo ta sang ciudad kag probinsiya sang Iloilo worldwide. Yohooooo !    It doesn't sounds too bad for me. Besides, Lopez-Jaena is an Ilonggo national hero BUT (there's always a big "but") it would better if they leave the name of the airport as Iloilo Airport or Iloilo International Airport. Renaming to happen anytime after a year or two. Wala pa gani ka-abri sang airport, damo na gusto mag-dip-in sang ila mga kamot. Hoy, mahuya-huya man kamo ay! And yes, si Dr Acanto ang presidente subong sang Gracian Lopez Jaena Memorial Foundation, Inc. A nice move indeed in such a very early time. I agree with you, mate. After 2-3 years siguro puwede na. If we're taking international flights already. With number of Koreans nd and other foreign nationals increases in our city, we'll surely open the airport to international carriers sooner than we expected. All we need is a good support from our national and local officials. paano kay manami gid pamangkot niya about sa Arroyo Fountain. Kabudlay may dig mga artifacts unless naka-archive siya. Tani may makita lang ko nga article about it. :) well, curious lang ako. Basi nag-appear pa ang ngalan sang manag nga nag-reklamo. Ano ina ayhan nga year man? Siguro grabe pa ka Maria Clara ang mga taho sang una. Tani ginbayu-an na lang nila silk for the meantime. he he. spacewagon1 February 15th, 2007, 05:29 PM Chinese New Year celebration committee created February 2007 ILOILO CITY – Preparations are underway for the conduct of the Chinese New Year, another ethnic spectacle that is attracting its share of tourists to this Southern metropolis. To ensure that the celebration of the festivity goes smoothly as planned, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has designated the Iloilo Chinese Filipino Cultural Foundation here to oversee the flow of various activities lined up for the event. Treñas said the foundation has already created a committee to spearhead activities which will be held on February 17th, or the eve of this year’s Chinese New Year. “Like all other major activities in our city, it is best to assign a core group made up of individuals coming from the private and public sectors to see to their successful execution,” Treñas said. This year’s Chinese New Year celebration committee is composed of Treñas as the honorary chair; executive assistant Francis Te to represent the city government; Charlie Ho as liaison officer for the mayor; Henry Chusuey as chair; Roland Uy as vice-chair; Lee Chuan as director and public relations officer; Reynaldo Navarro as director and secretary; Fr. Manuel Uy as director and program committee head; and Councilor Ramon Cua-Locsin, Felipe Uy Gongco, Jose Santos, Tan Cheng Gee, Francis Sio and Monita Pama as directors. The activities will start with an afternoon parade from the Provincial Capitol to Iznart Rotunda. A food festival showcasing Chinese cuisine in Iznart Street by the Iloilo Hotels and Restaurants Association will start earlier. There will likewise be lion and dragon dances and other cultural presentations by the Sun Yat Sen High School, Iloilo Central Commercial High School, Ateneo de Iloilo-Sta. Maria Catholic School, Iloilo Scholastic Academy and Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus and a world-class fireworks display sponsored by Tessie Sy Coson of SM malls after the presentation. Awards will also be given out to the well-decorated kiosk and most authentic display of Chinese cuisine. Treñas said this is the fourth year that the city has been celebrating the Chinese New Year and is the first in the country that has a full day of activities to commemorate the event. The mayor said the occasion is the city’s way of thanking the Chinese community for the continuing assistance it has been extending to the Ilonggos. Treñas also cited the three Chinese volunteer fire brigade associations - the Iloilo City Action Group, the Federation of Fil-Chinese Fire Brigade and JB Lucky - for their assistance during conflagrations and in cleaning up after the Chinese New Year celebrations. It's very enlightening for us Ilonggos especially with regards to our political situation in Iloilo Province. Some of the entries are very touchy whilst others are funny especially regarding Mr. Armada. I'm glad to say, we all stand for a progressive and democratic Iloilo. The stand that gain support worldwide, Ilonggos and non-Ilonggos, of things happened to our capitol during "sedition". It's a political and historical landmark in our province, which put Iloilo in the map and front pages of national and international papers. I hope we learned something out of this horrible time in our beloved province. Again, Ilonggos will always stand for what is right, it's where we best remembered. Another article from his site: New airport to open April 12 Posted January 30th, 2007 by Manuel Mejorada Categories: Business Time for a little break from politics. The P8-billion Iloilo airport of international standards will commence operations on April 12. This is the most modern and state-of-the-art airport facility in the country today. It can accommodate the Airbus 320 and 330 easily, hence, flying into Iloilo from neighboring countries like South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore won’t be a problem. The new airport is about 30 minutes away from the city proper. The old airport site in Mandurriao will be sold off through an auction and developed into a business center, just like the Ayala center in Cebu which sits on the old Lahug airport. The new airport is a dream come true. It will serve as gateway of Iloilo to the world. Once it starts operating, the business climate in Iloilo will never be the same again. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will inaugurate the airport on April 5 when she celebrates her birthday. Last week, Senator Franklin M. Drilon, the man who moved heavens to get the project going and completed, visited the facility and expressed great pleasure at what he saw. Drilon said the contractor, Taisei-Shimizu, really did an outstanding job! habagatcentral1 February 15th, 2007, 06:14 PM hehehehe!!! pwede ko na gali maka-apply trainer sa company namon, wahehehe!!! @Chy, acknowledged your text message. See you on Sunday. I'll be in Iloilo by Saturday morning. spacewagon1 February 15th, 2007, 06:19 PM Iloilo City to ‘sell’ Dinagyang to Nepal ILOILO City – After the recent successful staging of Dinagyang Festival, Iloilo City will showcase it in Kathmandu, Nepal during a conference organized by the United Nations sometime in April. According to Iloilo City Tourism Officer Benito Jimena, who is at the same time executive director of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc., Dinagyang was cited by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as a “best practice” in terms of private-public partnership in promoting the success of a tourism event in Asia. The festival also showcases the efforts of the foundation and the Iloilo City government in promoting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as depicted in the choreography of the performing tribes. Dinagyang Festival has been endorsed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the only festival in the world to be used in the promotion of the MDG. It complements the attempt of the city to champion its localization of the MDGs after it was chosen as one of the pilot cities in the country for the MDG Localization. Jimena said he will not be bringing the Dinagyang tribes to Nepal but he will be sharing with them Iloilo City's experience. Meanwhile, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said this city is now starting to become a model for other local government units. "Our gain is that we see that the practices we have been doing are acknowledged not only by the national but the international community as well," he said. source: Panay News (http://www.panaynews.com.ph/news4.htm) chymera00 February 15th, 2007, 06:54 PM yey .... matakdan na ko Smart Bro sa bwas, too bad indi ko man gyapon magamit by next week kay medyo sako :( Post lng ko anay new pics in flickr... I just hate traffic. Galingin ulo ko sina even magtan-aw lang sang picture mo Chy.    kirby21 February 16th, 2007, 12:49 AM I-change ta ang title sang Pavia from RAIC to RRC (Regional Residential Center) Puwede ina ayhan? Sin-o mayor sang Pavia subong si Gorriceta man gihapon or iba na? Ngaa nga daw wala niya ini gina-follow-up? It's no use having RAIC kung wala man industrial investments dira. Albeit, more on housing ang nagakatabo dira sa Pavia iya. We're not complaining too much since ang mga subdivisions dira are dalagku-an man. But hey, we have to make use of Pavia, being the agro-industrial center of the region. They really need to start looking at this matter. Sayang lang ina ang project ni Cory sa Pavia kung wala man lang gali ma-utilise. That's right. At least we have the budget na. And sigurado na gid ini amidst election ban. Grabe man sa pagkadugay sang iya construction days. Ang madugay man lang ang foundation niya. Puwede ayhan sila kahimo sang underground parking area? Mas maayo pa gid ini kung tan-awon mo. Diin na to gani design nga gin-post ni Mr. Chymera ah? kirby21 February 16th, 2007, 01:04 AM Biskan diin bato. Wala pa man siguro makatupong sa Dinagyang subong. Why look at Asia when we can conquer the world     .. dako gid ini nga joke iya migo. Slowly but surely kuno so wala man ginamadali ina tanan. At least may pruweba. Nano naman after Nepal Noy? Actually, I like UN's choice of places. Gakadto sila sa country nga wala pa ma-exploit sang tanan. It'll surely help the country itself. Imagine ang mga dignataries nga nagakadto or naga-attend sang meeting? Puwede mangin UN rep? I agree with you, mate. After 2-3 years siguro puwede na. If we're taking international flights already. Thanks for the link Space. I'll visit it soon after postings ko diri. There used to be a "Porma Balas" contest, which most of us loved to watch but I don't know if this activity is still ongoing. There was even a time where there's a concert or battle of the bands in Calumpang area during Paraw's season and a showcase of jetskis enthusiast. Otherwise, new activities are lined up for this year Paraw Regatta. Well, let's just wait and see. The foundation has their own set of objectives. Bilbao THOUSANDS of spectators are expected to once again witness the Chinese community's New Year fest and the city's annual sailing race --- Paraw Regatta this weekend. On Saturday the City Government and Ilonggos join the Chinese community's 5th celebration of a New Year, now a Year of the Boar. On Sunday colorful sails will be seen as the Paraw Regatta race begins. Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, who would also join and will be among the frontliners in these celebrations, consider the two as major tourist magnets. The celebration of the Chinese New Year here, which was dubbed the first of its kind outside Manila' Chinatown in Binondo gained support from the City Government. The government made the triangular streets in downtown area --- JM Basa-Aldeguer-Iznart streets as Iloilo Chinatown through a legislation of the City Council. Joining and supporting the Chinese community is also one of the ways in recognizing their contribution to the city's economy, among others. The celebration begins with a cultural parade, which displays Chinese cultural dances, from the Capitol area to the Chinatown at 3 pm on Saturday. One of the highlights will be an SM City sponsored-fireworks display, the finale of the fest. The next day, the 35th annual sailing competition-Paraw Regatta would begin at the beach in Arevalo district. The Iloilo Paraw Regatta, is a race of colorful sailboats in a 36.5-kilometer route in the strait between the island-province of Guimaras and Iloilo City, is considered the oldest and largest in Asia. Other events included are the mini-paraw contest, baroto and rowing races, fishing cup, samba dance showdown, search for Mr. and Miss Paraw Regatta, photo exhibit, Pinta Paraw painting tilt, food festival and beach volleyball. source: Sunstar ILOILO (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/ilo/2007/02/16/news/chinese.new.year.paraw.regatta.slated.this.weekend.html) BYAHILO February 16th, 2007, 04:20 PM bye all!! ara na ko iloilo later... kiung hei huat tsai habagatcentral1 February 16th, 2007, 06:26 PM bye all!! ara na ko iloilo later... kiung hei huat tsai Oi, paano nyo ko sugaton sa Pier ni man? The grandest Chinese New Year celebration outside Metro Manila is taking place today here with a surefire crowd-drawer -- the cultural presentation this afternoon to be participated by Chinese-Filipino schools in the metropolis. The show is “tailored after the Year of the Fire Boar,” said businessman Henry Chusuey, chairman of the Iloilo Chinese-Filipino Cultural Foundation, Inc. (ICFCFI). One of the honored guests in today’s celebration is Kaisa Heritage Foundation President Teresita Ang-See, revealed Chusuey, also the president of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Panay, Inc (FFCPI). The ICFCFI has also invited business mogul Lucio Tan, the Ambassador of China, and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry National President Francis Chua. There will also be lion and dragon dances to “drive way evils spirits” and bring good luck. At 1 p.m., the whole stretch of Iznart Street in Iloilo City’s Chinatown will give way to a food festival showcasing sumptuous and authentic Chinese cuisine. Several Chinese restaurants, fast food chains and family associations will be selling their products. Mayor Jery Treñas said the city government will be awarding P10,000 to the booth that will be declared as best decorated with Chinese accessories. The booth that will display the most authentic Chinese cuisine will also be awarded a similar amount. The cash prizes aim “to encourage stall holders to make good their preparations,” explained Treñas. The mayor acknowledges the contributions of the Chinese-Filipino community in the continuing progress of Iloilo City. The cultural presentation begins at 5 p.m. The performers will showcase Chinese culture and tradition through songs and dances at the Plazoleta Gay after a parade from the Capitol grounds that will start at 4 p.m. The participating schools and their presentations are: • Sun Yat Sen High School -- tribal dances of China featuring the Xin Jiang Tribe and the Mongolian Tribe • The Ateneo de Iloilo - Sta. Maria Catholic School -- Jubilation of the Fire Boar • Iloilo Scholastic Academy -- The World Celebrates • Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus -- Good Day-Story of Spring; and • Iloilo Central Commercial High School -- Transcending Diversity; and the finale “Revelry.” After the cultural presentation, there will be a 20-minute fireworks display. A live band performance will entertain the crowd at the food festival are until midnight. The Iloilo City Police Office will be deploying policemen to ensure security and safety of revelers. The ICFCF is composed of Region 6’s two biggest Filipino-Chinese organizations -- the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Iloilo and the FFCPI – and 22 Chinese family associations in this city. taken from: Panay News link: http://www.panaynews.com.ph/news2.htm kirby21 February 16th, 2007, 08:42 PM ^^ ^^ thanks for the pictures of the new Westown Hotel and Convention Center in Smallville Complex, Incognito. Fernandez Iloilo’s colorful annual Paraw Regatta kicks off today “sailing for greener seas” with aims to bring back the old glory of Villa Beach, protect marine resources and provide nautical scholarships to poor but deserving children of seafarer-participants. Now on its 35th year, the sailing contest which is touted to be the oldest and largest of its kind in the Philippines as well as in Asia will make splashes and waves along shorelines and waters of Villa Beach in Arevalo district starting today with the highlights Sunday. Villa Beach is popular for its array of seafood restaurants offering by-the-sea fine dining ambience. However, informal settlers who have sprouted like mushrooms in the area through time have changed the scenery of what once the city’s top tourism attraction. The Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation (IPRF) now wants to actively promote the sailing festival to relive the city’s shorelines tourism industry. “We are making Iloilo famous for sailboat races as well as honor the paraw which was responsible for the promotion of trade and commerce long time ago,” stressed Manuel Villa Jr., chair of IPRF. Included in the Department of Tourism (DOT-6) Calendar, the annual sailboat race aims to help develop local tourism industry and showcase the paraw as a legacy from the earliest period of Ilonggo history. “We have to preserve the historical value of paraw which replicates the sailboats way back in 1212 AD used by settlers from Borneo in search of greener pastures in the island of Panay,” said Pepito Palmares of IPRF. “The designs we are using now are similar to that of our forefathers. This native sailboat has also become relevant in these times of crises as it discourages the use of oil as fuel. It is also pollution-free in addition to the sports and tourism potentials,” Palmares explained. The race also aims to develop the spirit of sportsmanship. Instituted in 1973, the Iloilo Paraw Regatta is a race among seafarers of colorful sailboats in the strait between the island of Guimaras and Iloilo City. Called “paraw” in the local dialect, the native outriggers survived the centuries and became a vital part of the Ilonggo seafaring life. “We stage the event as we want to remember the people during the yesteryears and honor the Ilonggo heritage as well as let the new generation carry over the festival which became so colorful,” said Lito Duran of IPRF. The paraw race yearly draws thousands of spectators to the beach lines of the 36.5-km race route from Tatoy’s Manokan to Fort San Pedro, Sto. Rosario in Buenavista, Puting Balas straight to Morobuan in Jordan and back to the finish line at Villa Beach. The city and provincial governments and DOT-6 have been supporting the sailing competition that brings out the best skills of local seafarers. The first Iloilo Paraw Regatta was organized by DOT-6; Iloilo City government; municipalities of Oton, Iloilo, Jordan and Buenavista in Guimaras; Philippine Coast Guard; Negros Navigation; the late Antonio de Oteyza; Iloilo Boat Club; Panay Amateur Radio Club; Iloilo Jaycees; Anhawan Beach Resort and a host of other paraw enthusiasts. source: The Guardian ILOILO (http://www.theguardianiloilo.ph/localnews0.php?id=1867) spacewagon1 February 17th, 2007, 05:43 AM Chinoys upbeat on Year of the Pig Jeehan V. Participants will don Chinese costumes while they perform street-dances especially the lion and dragon dance amid colorful floats. After the road-show, a cultural presentation will be staged at Plazoleta Gay with a spectacular fireworks display in the evening as finale. The gathering will also include food festival showcasing Chinese foods and bazaar displaying good luck charms’ items, clothing, pictures and other wares. “It is with pride and great joy that we celebrate the Chinese New Year to showcase our rich culture. Every year brings a lot of new things and hope – this will be an exciting year for us,” said Fr. Manny Uy. “The Chinese New Year is being celebrated publicly because we want to share the wealth of Chinese culture with the bigger community. Before, we only celebrate it with our family, parish and in Buddhist temples. Now, we want to show the oneness with the Ilonggo community,” Fr. Uy added. Chusuey, for his part, said the festivity will be joined by Chinoys business groups, Chinese family associations and Chinese schools in the metropolis. I kinda wondering what'll be the building looks like. I'm thinking of something like the new Doane Church. Anyway, keep us informed. It was supposedly started last year pa but was delayed due to some tiny-weeney things. The Leganes having a new market complex? I think it's almost the same as the new ones in Oton. MY relatives told me that it looks like a mini-mall. Something like the old version of MaryMart Mall daw. Inang time nga open pa ang Marymall Mall and indi pa fully air-conditioned. How I wish na may mga photos diri. The Oton Public Market is almost finished na kuno and waiting for occupants soon na. Thanks for the info anyway. I guessed I'm right anyway about the top nudity of the statues. Kay it was patterned ina sa mga European counterparts niya. It doesn't look too bad anyway unless you get to put meaning into it. Pero I believed that during those days, medyo conservative pa man gid ang mga taho. So far, so good. The fountain looks distorted sa pic, maybe tungod sa kadugayon na gid man. Talagsa lang ko makatugda di kay pirti gid ko kasako. Indi na ko kapangawat magSSC sa work. Wecky and Space, dya dulang kamo magsalyo sa Australia. I have 4 colleagues who were hired within the past 6 months from London. They’re on working visa here but are now planning to apply for permanent residency. Our Director is also from London kay UK-based man ang amon company. They like it here better than London kuno. According to them, the weather is better, cost of living is less than half as London's, people are much more polite, cleaner environment, public transport is more efficient. spacewagon1 February 18th, 2007, 12:50 PM Shy, I've heard about it, too. Damo gid man British nga mas prefer nila mag-settle sa Australia subong. Aside sa low cost of living, sunnier and ang beach kuno superb. Sydney is the place to be gid tuod migs, hambal nila. Regaridng sa movement, si Wecky siguro kay he has a liberty to roam around and work. Especially that his sister, who's working here in UK as well, are looking for works in Australia subong. So more or less he'll grab the opportunity, too. The hospital he's working are giving them an option to take 9-month career break with benefits of not losing their original posts here sa London. So mas advantageous sa iya kay other than he can work dira, dala na gid man lagaw niya sa Australia. I wish we're in the same position though. But nurse siguro mas madali mag-travel. Amo ina naman budlay pag indi ka nar-es kay basi sa pihak nga isla iba naman imo job title. Australia is a very nice country. Sa Lifestyle Nutrition group of companies. Ang duwa wala ko makuha ang exact address. Actually, I'm bit excited sa offer sang Dubai. I'll probably be there for 9 months or less lang. Dala na lagaw. Pero depende pa ina if my boss will allow me to take 9 month career break. After Dubai, Australia na naman. We can work there for a year depende sa hospital. And pagbalik ko di, amo man gihapon ang position nga ginauyatan ko so no worries gid iya. Ang lagas ko lang sa Duai is British citizens are paid three times more than its counterparts sa aton. Free tax, free lodging, free tanan including a fare ticket from Dubai to London. And ang obra managerial lang. How I wish ma-grant lang. BUt I'll update you kung madayon. @Leii, kung mag-expire kuno you can look other alternatives like Doha, etc kay lapit lang kuno. I've heard so much about it. Pero as in "pero" makakuha ka sang visa coming here sa UK, grab the opportunity gid migs. I'm sure you'll enjoy Europe more than anything else. How's the construction of Burj Dubai? Ka-tunog gid ina diri sa amon. And even our work colleagues prefer to tour Dubai right now than countries in our east side. i senxa indi ako familiar sang al mulla plaza, kalapad mn abi sang dubai and dmu establishments.. baw mayu kapa lagaw lagaw lng, tni mag abut mn ang time na lagaw lagaw mn ako, gusto ko gid e tour ang world, thats why i decided mag abroad, first dubai lang ta anay a..jejeje... dako gid potential mo kung mag work ka dri they prefer those na halin sa iban na country, and knowing Filipino ka, dali kalang kita work dri kag as you say triple salary mabatun mo...mo lng na di mayu sa dubai tax free and sweldo kasu and accomoodation dri is tama ka mahal okay kung ang company mo mo ga provide accomodation allowance... and gina preparahan ko na gni ang pag kadto ko dra, hopefully lang gid things will go my way...masupot ko anay pang gastos ko dra...jejeje...excited na ako makita ang europe specially london and nottingham...ever since gusto ko gid na kadtuan europe like italy france germany nammi sang mga places... things is doing good sa construction sang burj dubai, every day pirme ko malabyan ang burj dubai, sa subong 108 storeys palang ang na construct nila day by day magiging 168 na ina am not sure lng, ky this is supposed to be the tallest building in the world getting the title of malaysias petronas tower, and another exciting thing is the ongoing construction of dubai land, the biggest amusement park in the world home to the worlds largest shopping mall the mall of arabia and the future The Great Wheel i guess similar to londons eye, but sure after its completions it will also become the largest look up wheel in the world, grabe ang turista dri sa dubai, aside sa oil tourism ang gabuhi sang economy ka dubai and UAE, laban pagid british.. well hope to see you soon here in Dubai!!!Ü leii_tomo February 18th, 2007, 12:57 PM hello Leii. How's you day? hi ya!!! well its pretty good!!! alang masyoadong work gni medyo todo post...jejeje...Ü leii_tomo February 18th, 2007, 01:01 PM actually, I have no idea why Sagrado is considered part of Chinese schools in Iloilo na. The first four, sigurado gid ako sina. Actually, Iloilo Scholastic Academy is a late addition na. I only see it in photos lang. The original three Chinese schools back home were Chinese Com (HuaShong), SunYatSen (TiongSan) and Sta Maria (now Ateneo de Iloilo-SMCS). Basi nagpa-convert na si sister ah. true ang apat siurado gid na chinese schools...ang ISA (iloilo scholastic academy) daw 2004 or 2005 lng na ina sila nag open... laban gid spacewagon dy sister nagpa convert gid e...hehehe basta mahambal ko lng, sa sta maria church ang statue ka ila na Virgin Mary and Jesus Chinese,,....Ü spacewagon1 February 18th, 2007, 01:03 PM medyo layo gid ang nottingham but the place looks really nice. I haven't been there yet but I heard so much about the place. Damo man ko upod nga nag-move na sa countryside espcially sa mga may pamilya. Anyhow, hulat-hulat lang ta diri. Diin ka sa Dubai? I have three cousins working man dira. Sang last year lang nakalakat ang pangatlo. Then one of our family friend is waiting sang working visa na lang pakadto man dira. I hope to visit Dubai next year kung maka-tiempo. I even plan to move and work their for 9 months as I'll take my career break. Dako kuno suweldo basta British ka na. Triple ang pay. Other than Elizabeth, Beach Bum, ano pa ang mga kala-an dira sa Coastal Road area? Daw puro man ina dira talabahan? Sang wala and highway nga ina sang una, pala-isdaan na dira ang kadam-an. Most Dumangasanons own a fishpond. Pag-manghaw-as sila bangrus dira, kabarato gid sa bili aside sa preska kag dalagku-an pa. shyaman February 18th, 2007, 01:03 PM About a month ago in the news, Australia was hiring nurses from UK kay "occupation in demand" ang classification sang nurses diri including engineers, accountants, chef, and other skilled professions. Siling ko gani, ngaa gapanglat-as pa sila kuha sang nurses sa UK nga ang UK gani naga-import man sang nurses. Tani sa Pilipinas na lang sila manguha just like UK and US to give more opportunity sa Pinoy nurses naton. The fountain in all it's "old glory". Maayo diggings mo Bernie ah. I'm glad the Museo people allowed you to take a photo of their archived material. Thanks mate for posting the old Arroyo Fountain. Now, everyone curiosity's satisfied na. :) At last there's proof that the ladies were indeed naked. I can just imagine how big a stirr it had created in the old days kay maski guro subong na tinion daw big deal na guro ina (just like David's statue in Davao). @kirby: Waay kaso mag kwa pictures sa museo. As quoted by the Zafiro Ledesma II, in charge of the Museo Iloilo. "You can take all the pictures you want" Kianshi, can you take photos of the Iloilo's Mission's New Medical Building prespective? Kumusta naman iya ang Dumangas? I've passed by Oton's new market last week, the structure is indeed finished. Also passed by Leganes' new Public Market and took a pic of the perspective, which I'm going to post later siguro. It's been a long while... I don't know if I can even read all the posts I missed... Anyway, I noticed the Iloilo Central Market has a fresh coat of paint. It looks much neater now, but more can be done, especially inside. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/174/392912749_c51887bc59.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/142/392912758_ea9f6006bf.jpg Happy New Year! http://farm1.static.flickr.com/123/392912752_a2f855ff32.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/172/392912753_3b3f784ade.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/149/392912756_7ed722d69e.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/156/392935672_29fb3b1cdb.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/127/392912760_3529057490.jpg Bilib na guid ko ya sa photographic skill mo IAMME, perfectionist guid ya katama. Tani may nakakuha gid man sang ila fireworks display subong nga tuig. Mas maayo pa gid kung ara siya sa you tube para may tan-awon man ta. Tani lang weck, hambal kuno sang friend ko nga naka kita, it was indeed grand (for Iloilo's standard at least) daw wala na gid man Porma Balas di. Probably because it is more associated siya sa Boracay compare sa Iloilo Paraw Regatta. Last year, most winners came from the province of Guimaras. Ambut lang tis year kung amo man sa gihapon. I wish to see more Paraw's pictures. :) I was at the finish line kanina and a lot of the participants from Leganes finished first. I'm not sure if they won though because the judges still have to look into the technicalities (kung may deductions gui man) before declaring the winners. chymera00 February 18th, 2007, 05:14 PM btw bernie> that incident in tigbauan (?) kagina with the oldie is a classic. it will always be remembered. ahahahahahahahahahha asta subong indi ko ma punggan kaugalingon ko sang kadlaw. blame that effin' basket. Paraw Regatta – considered the premier sailing event in the Philippines – is a race of native outriggers. The race was open to all seaworthy paraw solely dependent on wind for its power or motion, subject of the specific requirements and qualifications. Yesterday’s race traversed a 30-kilometer sailing course in the Iloilo Strait, running up to the coast of Panay and then down to the coats of Guimaras, before returning to the finish line at Villa Beach in Brgy. Sto. Niño Sur, Arevalo. This year’s race had two categories, ruled by the natives of Brgy. Camangay in Leganes, Iloilo. Category A was for paraws having a waterline length ranging from 16 feet and below and made strictly of indigenous materials. The entry Arlyn owned and built by Orlando Demetillo bagged the P12,000 first prize plus trophy. Arlyn had a water line length of 16 feet. Category B was for paraws having a waterline length of 16.1 feet up to 22 feet with the paraws’ hull strictly made of wood; the use of aluminum outriggers, however, was allowed. This category was topped by the entry Din Din and Kent owned by Ulysses Torino, also of Brgy. Camangay, Leganes. The paraw, with a water length of 22 feet, was built by Winnie Demetillo. Fernandez FILIPINO-Chinese anticrime crusader Teresita Ang-See lauded Iloilo City’s own Chinatown at JM Basa-Aldeguer-Iznart streets as a haven for Chinoys living and doing businesses in the metropolis. Ang-See, head of the Citizens Action Against Crime (CAAC), and a staunch advocate of anti-kidnapping campaign in the country, was the special guest of Iloilo City’s Chinese New Year celebration Saturday. “I am really amazed by the synergy of the Chinese-Filipino community here working very hard for a successful celebration even as we have the total acceptance of the Ilonggo community,” said Ang-See. Ang-See said the festival serves a reunion of Chinese families and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are coming back home to spend the occasion with their loved ones. Ang-See added that Chinoy businessmen have found a niche in the city’s economic center as seen in the teeming establishments in the area. “There are still nice old buildings here which have been established since the 1920s. We should preserve this Chinese history as we go beyond the tikoy, lion dances and firecrackers – we have to preserve the legacy of our ancestors,” Ang-See told fellow Chinoys during the festivity. Iloilo Chinese-Filipino Cultural Foundation Inc. (ICFCFI) chair Henry Chusuey also commended the support of the city government, Department of Tourism and the private sector for the staging of the Chinese New Year. “We anticipate better things, progressive and vibrant life ahead. The New Year would lead us to greater heights and achievement of success and I am confident that it would give positive outlook on our business undertakings and opportunities,” said Chusuey. Chusuey said they will pursue working with the city for programs and projects for greater development. “We no longer define ourselves as Chinese but Chinese-Filipinos. We aspire for the betterment, progress and development of Iloilo City. Our only difference is the physical attributes but we have adapted and tolerated such diversity – our hearts belong to the Ilonggos,” Chusuey stressed. “I am counting on our Chinese businessmen to be the Ambassadors of Goodwill in inviting investors from abroad to do business in Iloilo,” he added. Mayor Jerry Treñas said the influence of Chinese culture from siopao, pancit Molo to Lapaz batchoy have been integrated to the Ilonggos’ way of life. He said the Chinese event here is becoming bigger and a crowd-drawer. The city’s Chinese spectacle is touted to be the biggest of its kind outside of Manila’s Chinatown in Binondo. source: The Guardian ILOILO (http://www.theguardianiloilo.ph/localnews0.php?id=1883) spacewagon1 February 19th, 2007, 02:58 AM Paraw allots P500T for seafarers’ scholarships Jeehan V. Fernandez THE Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation (IPRF) will “sail poor youngsters into greener seas” through a scholarship program that will send to school deserving children of participants to the annual wind-driven boat race in the strait between Iloilo and Guimaras. IPRF chair Manuel Villa said they have been thinking every year of a legacy that could make a difference in the life of Ilonggos. And that legacy is a scholarship program that will benefit the children of seafarers who are long-time participants to the Paraw Regatta which capped its 35th edition at Villa Beach over the weekend. “The qualified applicants could take up marine and nautical courses so they can have the opportunity to work abroad and earn more. We have allotted P500,000 to start off the scholarship program which will initially benefit four scholars in the two courses,” Villa said. Villa said they tied up with John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation (JBLCF), a maritime school in the city, to implement the scholarship program. The IPRF is eyeing a 50-percent discount on four-year maritime courses of JBLCF during the class opening in June. Earlier, Villa said JBLCF head Marylou Arcelo has been working out an agreement with the Norwegian government to support study grants for poor but deserving children of local seafarers. He said Norway has started developing their nautical industry only in the last 15 years and “they want to get most of their instructors and hire personnel from the Philippines.” Villa said Iloilo City has some 20,000 seamen working overseas while the maritime workforce is touted as a major human resource potential of the country. Meanwhile, the IPRF with the support of Department of Tourism, Iloilo city and provincial government units and private companies, envisions the colorful sailboat race to become a major festival attracting more visitors and foreign sailboat enthusiasts. source: The Guardian ILOILO (http://www.theguardianiloilo.ph/localnews0.php?id=1885) IAMME February 19th, 2007, 05:26 AM Surprise.. surprise... The Ripples is the official student publication of Ateneo de Iloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School High School Department. SanAg Awards, on the other hand, is an award-winning body installed last year by the USA in due recognition for the outstanding contribution of campus writers to service and literature through journalism and creative writing. Competing against participating college and high school publications in Western Visayas, Ripples was also acclaimed as the publication with the Best Literary Page. According to the judges, mostly Palanca awardees and seasoned practicing journalists, the paper got their nod due to the Jesuit school’s 48-page literary magazine i-portfolio (titled: i-core). The said paper has been in yearly publication since 2003. It offers venue for Ateneo students to publish their literary works from poems, essays, short stories, song compositions, caricatures and visual artworks without fear of prejudiced censorship. Victor Robinson III, Ripples editor-in-chief, also shined before his college counterparts and won the Jigger S. Latoza Award for Best Columnist and the Isidro M. Cruz Award for Best Poet. Last year, Ripples also banked the Best Sports Page honors. All the awards, to note, have corresponding trophies, medals and cash prizes courtesy of the SanAg Awards organizers. The four Ateneo awards have elevated the school paper in the level of college publications such as Silak and Forum of West Visayas State University as one of the Best Performing publications this year. This is, by far, Ateneo’s 6th overall regional award (as champion or as best performing school for journalism and creative writing) in the school year 2006-2007. Others were the Golden Pen Awards (for five consecutive years), Regional Literary Conference, 4th Regional Broadcasting Conference (for two consecutive years), Basic Journalism Seminar of the Philippine Information Agency 6 (for 3 consecutive years), and the School Paper Competition (Bracket B) of the Department of Education. The school was also the best performing Chinese-Filipino publication for English and Filipino categories in the National Quintin Yuyiting Awards 2006. This year, Ripples has 40 editors and staff and the same number of apprentices in high school. It also trains its grade school counterpart as one of its in-school outreach activities. This early February, it has already published two tabloids, three magazines and seven newsletters this school year. It is also set to hold its 6th Summer Journalism and Creative Writing Course this March and April. source: The Guardian ILOILO (http://www.theguardianiloilo.ph/localnews0.php?id=1892) Animo February 19th, 2007, 08:42 AM Really nice photos Chy! Yes. Sorry I was late for class so I wasn't able to write the description. The construction of a new river in Iloilo City has begun. The pictures were taken at Brgy. Buhang in Jaro. It appears that they started construction of the floodway from its mid-section. The picture shows the channel being dug. Based on the markers I saw at the site, it is only half its width at this time. Already, massive amounts of earth has been excavated. This picture shows only a very tiny fraction of the more than 2km floodway that will connect Jaro River to the sea from Pavia to the shores of Brgy. Bito-on in, Jaro. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/142/394857683_161d53553d.jpg My worry is if the water you see at the bottom of the channel is groundwater. Most, if not all of the people in the area of the floodway rely on wells for their water supply. If the floodway penetrates the water table, it could cause a depression in the water table and even subsidence. That means the wells will dry up because the groundwater will be drained away by the the deep channel of the floodway. In addition, withdrawal of groundwater will cause a void underground which could cause the soil to sink gradually. Another concern is if the floodway will bring in seawater inland, it could cause accelerated rusting of metal objects in the surrounding areas. I hope the engineers have forseen these possibilities and taken measures to address them. I live within 250 meters of this floodway so I am quite worried.:) kirby21 February 19th, 2007, 11:14 AM here's a feature article of Westbridge High, the only all-boys school in Iloilo. Btw, congratulations for their 15th year foundation day. More to come ! ________________ Superstart: Westbridge at 15 By Edison Sicad THE year was 1992. Out of the hearts of a group of parents, a heroic task set forth: to put up a school for their sons that will serve as a testament to the importance of parents in the education of their children. And so, PAREF Westbridge School for Boys came into existence. A balanced and demanding academic and personal formation became its bastion, its sounding board. The clarion call continues to reverberate and gets louder and clearer as the school reaches its landmark 15th year: the year the "superdads" return. With the motto Duc In Altum, the parents, together with the teachers, lead the way and continue to go into the deep, securing the anchor of family solidarity. And in this solid foundation rooted in Christian education, the school strives to nurture the students. Thus, these efforts bear fruit: Almer Macahilo, a third year student got second place in the Department of Education Iloilo Division Mathematics Super Quiz Bee held at the Division of Iloilo City Cultural and Social Hall last October 14. During the PRISAA 2006, Kim Pestaño placed second in binalaybay elementary level. Christopher Millora also grabbed second place in binalaybay high school level. Millora also got elected as the City Secretary during the Boys' and Girls' Week last September 25 to 29, 2006 sponsored by the Rotary Club of Iloilo City. He will represent Region 6 in the National Press Conference (NSPC) in Baguio this February 19-24, 2007, after qualifying in the top slots during the Regional Finals. Jefferson Magbanua bagged second place in the PRISAA extemporaneous speaking contest high school level. Magbanua also became the 7th Councilor of Iloilo City during the 2006 Boys' and Girls' week celebration. The Westbridge High School Mathematics team (Almer Macahilo, Franz Magbanua, Christopher Millora) won a bronze medal in PRISAA 2006, while Grade 1 student Jonathan Murga bested 91 other grade 1 students of public and private elementary schools of the Division of Iloilo City as he won first place in the Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Mathematics Challenge at the Iloilo City Division Social and Cultural Hall last January 26, 2007. All the Elementary pupils and 3 out of 4 in High School students qualified for the 2nd level of eliminations this February. Some Westbridge boys emerged in the top 3 all over Iloilo City. The Westbridge Debating Team composed of Jefferson Magbanua, Eusebio Dan Lopez and Marcelo Cacho. battled their way to the silver medal in the UPV inter-high school debate held last November 10, 2006. Eusebio Lopez was chosen as the Best Debater in the championship round against Colegio de San Jose. In the Regional School Press Conference, Chris Millora won 2nd Place in Copyreading (Filipino), 4th Place in News Writing (Filipino) and 2nd Over-all in Individual Competitions; Jefferson Magbanua won 4th place in News Writing (English), 5th in Editorial Writing (English) and 4th Over-all in Individual Competitions; Nicolo Pijuan won 8th place in Photo Journalism. These winnings placed Westbridge in 4th Place among the schools participating in the Press Conference, which took place in Punta Villa, Arevalo, Iloilo City last November 30 - December 2. In sports, the high school basketball team placed 3rd during the 7th Principal's Cup under-17 category while the Elementary basketball team placed 2nd runner-up in both the Milo Small Basketeers of the Philippines and the Under-12 category of the 7th Principal's Cup. The Westbridge Football Club dominated the 2007 Mayor Jerry P. Treñas Monthly Football Festival by winning the gold medal in the Under-10 and Under-12 categories and settling for the silver medal at the Under-8 category. Joey Lozada and Kim Pestano gave their best shot as they fittingly became the champion in PRISAA elementary badminton doubles. Edsel Pasaporte on the other hand dived into the pool and emerged with 4 medals (two golds, 1 silver, 1 bronze) in the 2006 PRISAA swimming competition. Pasaporte continued his winning strokes by snatching 4 golds and 1 silver medal during the Iloilo Integrated Meet held at the Iloilo Sports Complex last December 17 - 21, 2006. He is now looking forward to raking in more medals at the Regional Meet at Bacolod City during the month of February 2007. Joey Lozada, a Grade 5 student, will also be competing in Elementary Boys Badminton at the Regional Meet after being part of the Champion Badminton Team of the PRISAA Delegation at the Integrated Meet. And of course, service to others is still the best way of teaching students how to be Christian Gentlemen. Thus last October 4, the Student Council spearheaded a school-wide outreach program and helped the families in Igbaras who were affected by the tragedy. Last December 15, the virtue of generosity was in the air at the Westbridge campus as the students shared their food, goodies and talents with the pupils of Westbridge's adopted school, Nabitasan Elementary School. This yearly event gave the students the opportunity to live better the Christian Virtues of Generosity and Charity in the spirit of the Christmas Season. Also last December, Westbridge had an Alumni Homecoming and had a good attendance of more than 50 considering the hectic family activities around December 23, Saturday. Traditionally, the Fathers Day organizing committee aims to help the Scholarship Program. This year, they are raising an amount that would help in funding the scholarship grants that we have given to 8 students in the High School and 2 pupils in the Elementary. This is our way of extending the Westbridge education to more families in Iloilo, especially the underprivileged ones. In Westbridge, they highlight the role of the dads in the upbringing of their sons. Further, they also believe that education starts at home. And the more dads get involved with the learning of their sons, the more their sons appreciate learning. The love of learning then becomes contagious. And this is what Westbridge wants to spread: That education is a family matter. And that fathers really matter. Everyone is involved. Here in Westbridge, we enroll not only the son, the parents are enrolled too! Hence, the School for Parents session. Last February 18, Westbridge held an event called "My Dad, my Hero!" It was a magnificent super show as the dads took center stage and the spotlight focused on their legendary prowess, Herculean achievements, and exceptional talents and skills. It's a celebration of the real heroes of the world, of the family, the dads. The whole Westbridge family celebrated Fathers Day to highlight the primary role of the fathers in a school for boys. The Dad is the family's leader and guide especially in Education and Character Formation, and what Dads impart to their families will ultimately become part of society. In this light, a father's role is no small job. Dad's role has been waning in the West, but luckily in our society, the moms will never let this happen. kirby21 February 19th, 2007, 11:17 AM Belated Happy Chinese New Year to all from Iloilo! http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/berniemacksouthcentral/Iloilo%20and%20Negros/P1100446.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/berniemacksouthcentral/Iloilo%20and%20Negros/P1100431.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/berniemacksouthcentral/Iloilo%20and%20Negros/P1100448.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/berniemacksouthcentral/Iloilo%20and%20Negros/P1100451.jpg now, I can identify them well. Nino Sur, Villa Beach. The boat, named as Arlyn was manned by Orlando Demetillo and his crew Anthony, Rocky and Orly. According to Demetillo, this is the 7th time that they became the champion in the paraw race and he had been joining this since 1972. He and his crew's livelihood is fish diving. He said they prepared for this race by ensuring that the angler is in good condition. In fact, they didn't have any practice at all. "It's expensive," he said. Their winnings would be spent on a new boat as Arlyn is already three years old. Demetillo built Arlyn and named the boat after his first daughter. The second place went to Joseph 1, manned by a team from Tigbauan. The team is composed of Federico Tantiado who had been joining for 15 years; Jojo Tantiado, a first-timer and Jono Tamayo, two years. The fisherman said they were proud to have won even the second place. "We did everything just to win and we will give our best next time to ensure that we won first place," they said. The third place went to boat Princess Mae, manned by Pablito David, Jun Jaruda and Eduardo Javares, all fishermen from Camangay, Leganes. On what to do with their winnings, David said this will help them in their daily needs. Bustling Villa Beach was bustling with activity because of the Paraw Regatta. Some observers noted that more spectators flocked to witness the race, which celebrates the importance of fisherfolks, divers and boatmen in the city. Restaurants were filled with diners while vendors were happy because of the brisk sales. Some of the activities were the mini paraw contest, baroto and rowing races, fishing cup, samba dance showdown, search for Mr and Ms Paraw Regatta, pinta paraw, food festival and beach volleyball. The latter was held at Villa Regatta. taken from: Sunstar Iloilo link: http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/ilo/2007/02/19/news/leganes.team.wins.in.paraw.regatta.html BYAHILO February 19th, 2007, 11:45 AM sa mga ara sa Iloilo naka SKY Cable.. ara kmi da ni bernie sa Chinese new year special coverage nila. ahahahahahahahah kanami sang pic ko sa dragon.. ngaa daw kaniwang da ya sa akon haw? woot!! woot!! hahahaahhaah kirby21 February 19th, 2007, 11:48 AM :wave: lawig man aong nga binasa mga 5 pages cguro since lats visit ko sang friday lang * re: DINAGYANG in NEPAL - with the same time/money and effott thet spent (sa promo sa nepal) they could have better results bisan sa manila lang nila ini ginpromote liwat.i cant imagine nepalese flying all the way to iloilo just for this one.LIECHENSTEIN could have been better since most residents are well off. * re: terminal market new paint - daw twin sister sang robinsons are motif.nice job on the outside but all of us wouldl ike to see improvements in the inside and please also improve central market * re: westown hotel - glad to know a new hip hotel has opened in the hippest place to be in the city.the diversion area is an ideal place for small hip/boutique hotels.plus the area has a lot to offer.it'll be the "NEW CITY" of Iloilo city in the next 5 years (tani less than 5 years) * as usual thanks for the articles and pictures In response sa Dinagyang-Nepal post mo Whyte. I think you are misreading some articles about the UN feature. As UN's sole festival worldwide, IDFI is commissioned to promote MDGs. Paano na lang sila ka-promote sang MDGs if they're not going to attend UN's Summit? The very literal way of taking that Dinagyang is promoting sa Nepalese and Nepalese coming to Dinagyang is of irrelevant. The summit will feature Dinagyang to show to all its member nations how the Iloilo's premiere festival is getting into the picture inorder to meet its goals tasked for it by United Nations to do. Dinagyang is not promoting sa mga Nepalese kundi sa Summit ini sang UNDP iya ang promotion matabo. It just so happen lang nga ang summit subong will be held sa Nepal. It could be anywhere in the world, and still Dinagyang's IDFI rep will still be there promoting and presenting Dinagyang to all representatives of every nation. Now, Passi holds bigger role in shaping its economic future. Ina kung they'll use this thing to their own advantage. Passi City tops Iloilo as 'vote-richest' town, Bingawan last By Florence F. Hibionada Passi City has yet another reason why it stands as the only component city in the Province of Iloilo. Come May 14 elections, registered voters here will spell the difference for candidates vying posts in the provincial and national level. This, as official records from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) disclosed that Passi City is the "richest" in terms of source of votes from its 43,536 registered voters. It also has the most number of precincts at 302 not only for the Fourth District of Iloilo but for the entire province. In comparison, the Municipality of Bingawan has the least number of registered voters at 7,118 from its fourteen barangays where the least number of precincts throughout Iloilo is also recorded here at 48 precincts. As such, expected to get much of the candidates' visit is Passi City alongside a more 'exciting' and strenuous in-house campaign here for its local bets. District-wise though, it is Iloilo's Third District that has the most number of combined registered voters at 201,831 followed closely by the Fifth District with 201,344 registered voters. Precincts in the Third and Fourth Districts have an exact number placed at 1,405, a close-second to the Fifth District at 1,413 precincts. Iloilo Province has 941,380 total registered voters from its 1,721 barangays. Votes will be cast in the 6,601 precincts recorded. Breakdown of the registered voters are as follow, 1st District 188,100, 2nd District 152,592, 3rd District 201,831, 4th District 197,513 and 5th District 201,344. taken from: The News Today link: http://www.thenewstoday.info/2007/02/19/passi.city.tops.iloilo.as.vote.richest.town.bingawan.last.html Rolls-Royce February 19th, 2007, 12:41 PM One thing lang nga pwede ko masuggest dyan sa Calle Real kag Iznart dyan dampi sa obelisk. Local languages may be used in respective Language threads. If insisted, they may be used in regular threads but providing translations is a must. Two weeks after announcement, zero tolerance would be given to the violators. Violators would be given the usual sanctions* Other Filipino forums have done it, so why can't we? 3. When starting a new thread in a thread series, "congratulatory" posts will be discouraged. As has been noticed, these posts usually take up at least 2 pages of a thread. I currently use JUploadr (http://juploadr.sourceforge.net/) (Java 1.5 required (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java2se50release3.html)). Looking forward to go back there by late March or early April. @Rest....Hold on, because pictures will flood again. :) "asked and it shall be given unto you". There you guys. Bernie really posted their great moments during Iloilo Chinese New Year and Paraw Regatta. For me, Paraw is totally of different genre compare to Dinagyang, Chinese New Year and other festivals of the country. Besides, Paraw Regatta has definitely a following of its own right now. I couldn't believe that people nowadays are so excited with Paraw Regatta, which used to be an Ilonggo's way of showcasing it's culture and artistry on the beach side. Slowly, it's becoming more and more commercialised as well, which in due time will could equal if not surpassed Dinagyang in some respect. I live within 250 meters of this floodway so I am quite worried.:) Thanks for all the information and your personal input IAMME. I hope advantages outweighs the disadvantages of having to construct Floodway Control Project. It seems that the project took off really well and now, it is showing some effects, too, both in Iloilo's infras side and addressing minor issues of flooding. Soon, with all its componets finished, Iloilo Flood Control will make Jaro more business-friendly and residents-firendly, too. Some aspects of the project will given give rise to tourist or visitor's haven, etc. sa mga ara sa Iloilo naka SKY Cable.. ara kmi da ni bernie sa Chinese new year special coverage nila. ahahahahahahahah kanami sang pic ko sa dragon.. ngaa daw kaniwang da ya sa akon haw? woot!! woot!! hahahaahhaah That's it, Eric. Panay Railways Inc. (PRI), a subsidiary of the Philippine Investment and Development Corp., is the proponent of the $658.41-million Panay railway project. Guiling Mamondiong, DOTC undersecretary for Railway, told reporters the PRI is undergoing revisions to make it deficit-neutral for the government and attractive to private investors. But right now, Mamondiong said, “there are no takers.” Of the estimated total project cost, civil works amounted to $164.71 million; rolling stock, $168.97 million; engineering and maintenance, $104.67 million and the compensation of residents that will be affected by the rehabilitation $50 to $60 million. The repair includes the miscellaneous items cost $100.94 million; right-of-way acquisition, $12.55 million and the interest payment of $25.79 million. The project involves the rehabilitation and revival operation of the Panay Railway, a 117-kilometer railway transit system that would traverse the whole island of Panay in a northeast direction connecting major economic hubs of Panay, Ilolio and Roxas City. It aims to enhance the transport network system between the cities of Iloilo and Roxas, as well as, to encourage the deviation of cargo traffic from road to rails in order to prolong the life of the existing road network. Mamondiong said the project was originally proposed to be financed through a mix of ODA (overseas development assistance) from India; export credit from France, Germany, Austria; and commercial loan facilities from local and foreign banks. The National Economic Development Authority has recommended that the project “be implemented as a commercial venture with the proponent bearing all the market risks and without necessitating a government budgetary support.” It reported that the government will provide right of way for the areas to be affected by the project. “It should be fully undertaken by private companies,” Mamondiong said, adding the revised proposal of the proponent will be submitted to NEDA. “It is not a medium-term project but, as with the Cebu and Mindanao rail projects, the government wants to start important works as early as possible, even if completion could be beyond 2010.” source: The Manila Times (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2007/feb/20/yehey/prov/mainpro.html) spacewagon1 February 19th, 2007, 08:59 PM CPU JOINS NAT’L ARTS MONTH Phil. Madrigal Singers to perform in Iloilo ILOILO City -- Central Philippine University (CPU) has always been enthusiastic in cultural and artistic activities. This February in the celebration of National Arts Month, CPU, through the Cultural Affairs Office headed by Dr. Anita U. Illenberger (in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts), brings to Iloilo the Philippine Madrigal Singers in an entertainment of delightful music entitled “Madzitawanan”. “Madzitawanan” will be held on February 23, 4 p.m., at the CPU Rose Memorial Auditorium. It is a concert that will show how beautiful life is and to boost up the moral of every individual amidst problems and concerns in the society through music and laughter. The Philippine Madrigal Singers brought home the Grand Prize in the Florilege Vocal De Tours held in France on June 4, 2006. They won over 14 other choirs from all over the world and earned for them the Grand Prix de la Ville de Tours, an award given to the choir who gave the best overall performance during the entire competition. They will be competing in the 2007 European Grand Prix Chorale Singing in Arezzo, Italy. A way of sharing their victory to the Filipino audiences in the province and to raise funds for the upcoming competition in Italy, the Philippine Madrigal Singers’ “Madzitawanan” is part of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Outreach Program. Other activities that CPU prepared for the National Arts Month are a lecture forum entitled “Love Speak: Anything About Love”, a Teatro, Sining, Atbp. (CPU’s theater group) production “Love in a Music Box”, and the Physical Education Week celebration. source: Panay News (http://www.panaynews.com.ph/news4.htm) IMPRESARIO February 19th, 2007, 10:39 PM http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/9060/dscn1586qn7.jpg Lambunao? http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/9775/dscn1585sc7.jpg Is this the Yamato Int'l School in Lambunao? kirby21 February 20th, 2007, 02:42 AM Improved infra, IT manpower attract investors Elsa S. Subong MORE infrastructures combined with abundant Information Technology (IT) and IT-capable manpower make the regions more attractive and potential areas for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)-oriented services. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said these factors have made investors see the regions as profitable places for business activities. Trade undersecretary for operations, Carisa Evangelista said in the past years there were no e-servers operating outside Metro Manila. With investors’ confidence, investments spilled over in the countryside. She said that among the good BPO locations outside Metro Manila are Bacolod City, Baguio City, Cagayan de Oro, Clark, Pampanga, Davao, Iloilo, Leyte, San Fernando, La Union, Subic, and Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Evangelista said it is important that the country’s IT-competent cities and provinces be recognized in the global economy, to encourage more investments in the countryside. To date, there are 38 BPO firms located in Bacolod, Baguio, Cagayan De Oro, Davao, Iloilo, Leyte, and Sta Rosa Laguna. With the government’s option of spending on infrastructure and social services to spur growth in the countryside, tapping of affordable and reliable energy sources has been a priority. The Rural Power Project (RPP), designed as a roadmap to full electrification of all barangays and households nationwide, is looking into the maximum implementation of solar PV installations especially in the remotest areas where power grid extension is not technically and financially viable. RPP Project director Mylene Capongcol said that RPP is a market-based program, which focuses on the participation of the private sector to promote public-private sector partnership in government’s electrification program. Capungcol said that an innovative and decentralized electrification subprograms being introduced is Project Access or Accelerating Community electrification Using Sustainable Solar. Under the project ACCESS is the Sustainable Solar market Packages which involves the clustering of barangays that will create a critical mass for any business undertaking. Capungcol said communities have to be convinced that PV installation is good for them because it gives them access to information, helps children do their homework at night, protects health of the people against respiratory illnesses caused by kerosene lamp use, enhances peace and security in the areas, plus other benefits. Other areas include Lanao, and other more or less 169 barangays in Mindanao, where despite security problems, government and private workers continue to work hard to bring electricity to the regions. RPP was designed consistent with the vision of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001. taken from: Panay News link: http://www.panaynews.com.ph/news3.htm kirby21 February 20th, 2007, 04:09 AM One thing lang nga pwede ko masuggest dyan sa Calle Real kag Iznart dyan dampi sa obelisk. DILG-Iloilo LGPMS Focal Person Rene Landazabal said all the municipal governments in the province including the Iloilo provincial government and the city government of Passi have already adopted the LGPMS. LGPMS is an internet-based, self-assessment system that allows provinces, cities and municipalities to conduct a self-evaluation of their performance in the following service areas, namely: governance, administration, social services, economic development and environmental management. Landazabal said the program is already existing prior to the implementation of the Local Government Code but has evolved into an internet based system as part of the continuing effort of the DILG to help local government units improve governance and enhance the delivery of basic services at the local level as well as to improve access to and use of data by stakeholders and provide inputs to policy makers. "The program is used amongst others by our local chief executives in their State of Local Governance Report and in planning their programs and projects," said Landazabal. He added that the program is a big help to the Sangguniang members in formulating their legislative agenda and department heads as bases for their plans of action. Recently, Interior and Local Government Secretary Rolando Puno urged all local chief executives not yet adopting the LGPMS to team up with the DILG to help put this system in place in their respective localities so that they can effectively establish performance benchmarks and generate strategic data for the development of effective government policies at their level. In line with this, Puno said, the Bureau of Local Government Supervision (BLGS) will conduct more seminars this year in various provincies, cities and towns that have yet to make use of the LGMPS to help local government units tap the advantages of information technology for effective governance. taken from: Panay News link: http://www.panaynews.com.ph/news3.htm kirby21 February 20th, 2007, 08:03 PM http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/berniemacksouthcentral/Iloilo%20and%20Negros/h.jpg the stony beaches san joaquin....i've been there before!:) http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/berniemacksouthcentral/Iloilo%20and%20Negros/P1100707.jpg They need a better access road. the traffic was bad last time i went there for the New Nurses Oathtaking, the subdv. road is not enough. they should look at buying those lots behind their property. Especially those coming from interior towns of Iloilo (central Iloilo preferably), amo na ini ang means of transpo nila. At least, sigurado gid ta nga mabugal ta aton salakayan biskan diin lang - either private or public vehicles, Iloilo remains top of the list. Sa private naman, who would forget the six-door limousine of Junjie Lopez that til the present is plying in and out the city of Iloilo? I'm not 100% sure lang id on whether the Lopezes still owns the limo or it's Espinosa now? amo pa gid ini ang akon na-miss. Ang sakay-sakay sa jeepneys. It's been awhile nga wala na gid ko kasakay jeep. Pisli-an gid iya mga taho sa aton. still no takers yet? Amo na siguro nga sobra ka delay sang project. No funding agency nga na-mentioned. Now, with the scheme of making it more viable for private investors to fund the project, I think Panay Railways will be up and running soon. I really thought the project was shelved for good until today when this article was released in one of the national dailies. I wish Austrian or German will look into this project and hopefully, fund it for good. On the other hand, Panay governors should converge and cooperate in selling this project to prospective foreign investors and fasttrack its development and construction. I want to see a better railway project from Iloilo to Boracay (caticlan), Aklan. Take this as a challenge. I hope before the year ends, may ara na taker sang project nga ini. Panay Railways' is a very important means of public transpost sa aton. It will surely help boost the island's economy so tani suportahan ini siya sang mga governors sang apat ka probinsiya. kirby21 February 20th, 2007, 08:54 PM Manong Pulot of Villa Arevalo http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h291/berniemacksouthcentral/Iloilo%20and%20Negros/P1100398-1.jpg Selling "pulot" or some sort of sweet syrup made similar to honey with a taste of coco jam. We just need to start sourcing some of our powers through wind, etc. Dako gid ini mabulig niya sa aton. Btw, how about having new energy player in the city's power market? the city officials are playing deaf and blind sa bagay nga ini, which is not good at all. They know there's a problem, they acknowledged it (actually) BUT tey're not doing anything to address the issue. Kadugay na inang problema sang ciudad sa PECO, tani man lag naghulag sila and make an effort to attract power investors sa aton ciudad. Kay tungod sa sulod siya sang isa ka subdivision, mas maayo iya security. @Incognito and @Kirby: Maybe (as in "maybe") they're also planning of expanding and making access road to get into their hotel in the future. I've been there twice when I was in Iloilo and I found that the resort hotel is still on its developing phase. I had spoken to the manager herself and she told us that there's still plenty of plans for development. Damo pa gid man kulang. They still have ample of spaces for building expansion. Better yet, verical expansion is the best option siguro. With regards sa access road nga ini, actually ako nabudlayan cos the buildings, etc are facing sa subdivision area. Kung makabutang man sila access road, sa likod na sa hotel malabay. And it's bit ridicule for visitors and guests alike nga ang ila entrance will be the beack portion of the resort hotel unless they're going to erect a building facing the other way around. :) wecky February 20th, 2007, 09:19 PM a good break from festivals, infras and commercial developments: Rice, corn production in WV up in 2006 By Maricar M. Calubiran Rice and corn production in the region registered a dramatic increase in the year 2006 contributing 12 per cent to the national production. This was revealed by Department of Agriculture (DA) OIC-Regional Executive Director Larry Nacionales over the weekend. Nacionales said, rice production in Western Visayas increased from 1.8 million metric tons in 2005 to some 2 million metric tons in 2006. The rice production marked a 9 percent increase. In the corn production, the region was able to produce 250,000 metric tons of corn in 2006. It is 33 percent higher compared in 2005. The corn production for 2005 is only 193,000 metric tons. In last Friday's information caravan on rice and corn 2007, Nacionales said with the increase in the rice and corn production, the sufficiency level of Western Visayas posted as high as 113 percent. The region's contribution of 12 percent to the national production was already a big help. Some 400 farmers attended the information caravan. In the same gathering, farmers sought clarifications on issues, policies and technology of the government in its rice and corn program. The increase in rice and corn production could be attributed to the cooperation of the farmers and same time with the use of hybrid rice and corn seeds. At the national government, Director Frisco Malabanan, of the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani (GMA) hopes to attain a five to six percent increase in the rice and corn production in 2007. He counted much in the region's contribution to the palay production of the country. The region has contributed 4.96 percent in the palay production of the country in 2006. The department is pushing for the growth in agricultural sector through the implementation of different programs for farmers who are into rice and corn production. The News Today There you go, the agricultural sector of the region is improving as well. More foods to be servd at our table then ...hahahaha. The regatta, a race among native wind-powered outriggers locally known as paraw, is slated on February 17th and 18th. Now more than three decades old, it has become a well-liked attraction, drawing tourists and boat racing enthusiasts from all parts of the Philippines and abroad. The regatta made its presence more known after Mayor Jerry P. Treñas created the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation two years ago, to spearhead the activity. The foundation is chaired by businessman Manuel Villa, Jr. and is composed of individuals coming from the public and private sector. Aside from the main event – the sailboat race at the Iloilo and Guimaras Straits – this year’s activity will likewise boast of many side events. There will be a pinta paraw (sail painting contest), baroto race, angling competition, sports events, Samba Regatta and Miss Paraw Regatta beauty pageant, among others. The sailboat race itself will have two parts – the slalom and the regatta proper. Meanwhile, the city mayor is expecting tourists to flock to Villa Beach this coming weekend; Villa Beach is home of the Regatta competition for more than thirty years now. “Let us continually support this event where we give tribute to men with admirable sea-navigation skills. This is a unique activity, one that the city can truly be proud of,” Treñas stated. The mayor also expressed his gratitude to the people behind the success of this annual sailing competition. He said that the Department of Tourism, the foundation, the media and the other partner agencies have significantly contributed to the smooth implementation of this annual event. source: Iloilo City Official Website (http://www.iloilocity.gov.ph/autogeneratedpagenews.php?id=40) spacewagon1 February 20th, 2007, 09:39 PM Treñas: City full of festivals and conventions for 2007 February 14, 2007 ILOILO CITY -- Mayor Jerry P. Treñas recently disclosed that the city is fast emerging as a festival and convention hub what with the various grand activities lined up for this year. The mayor said that as of today, we already finished the staging of two successful events namely the Dinagyang Festival last month, followed by the Candelaria Feast in Jaro district last February 2nd . The city is now all set to celebrate two major festivities slated for this weekend; the Chinese New Year on February 17th and the 35th Paraw Regatta on the 18th . Treñas also stated that all these events are also in line with the call of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in making the Visayas as a super region for tourism activities. Because of this, the city government has lined-up a year-long tourism and cultural activities in close coordination with the private sector. Treñas also acknowledged the effective cooperation of the Iloilo City Convention Bureau, Iloilo City Tourism and Cultural Council and the Iloilo Hotels, Restaurants and Resorts Association as the major players for the tourist influx in this southern metropolis. The city mayor averred that the participation of the private sector is attributed to the successful staging of festivals and certain activities such as national conventions in the city. He also cited the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation which spearheads the world-renowned Dinagyang Festival and the Iloilo Regatta Foundation which leads in the annual Paraw Regatta Festival as effective private sector participation. Meanwhile, conventions slated in the city for this year are also numerous. The month of March will see the holding of an international conference of Save the Children at the Centennial Resort and the national conference of surgeons with 1,500 physicians converging in the month of April. The Philippine Association of Civil Registrars, with more than a thousand members, is also scheduled to have their national convention here this June. The chief executive is very elated about this development and hopes that the city will continually be known as a convention center this side of the country. “Aside from the very affordable prices in terms of food and lodging, our city has also long been known to be safe. These are important considerations that I know convention organizers take notice of,” Treñas further added. source: Iloilo City Official Website (http://www.iloilocity.gov.ph/autogeneratedpagenews.php?id=39) habagatcentral1 February 20th, 2007, 09:43 PM Nag-historical searching kamo sa Arevalo @Eric and @Bernie? I think it's Molo district who has the title "Athens of Iloilo or Athens of the Philippines" due to its old remnants and beautiful St Anne's Church. Arevalo is all way famous for its flowers and fireworks. Of all the six districts of the city, Arevalo I think is the most underdeveloped. Here, you can still breath fresh air, more greeneries around, suburbs and homey lifestyles, etc. Wala pa di kasulod ang commercialism sa Arevalo except for its beaches teeming with resorts and restos. Given a chance, Arevalo will developed more. And one things nga dapat nila i-improve sa Arevalo is the cleaning of Villa Beach. This is Arevalo's lifeblood when it comes to tourism and commercialism. spacewagon1 February 20th, 2007, 09:55 PM amo pa gid ini ang akon na-miss. Ang sakay-sakay sa jeepneys. It's been awhile nga wala na gid ko kasakay jeep. I always see to it nga kung makapauli ako, nagasakay gid ko dyip. Two to three times. Siempre dala na dira pang-abi-abi mo sa mga kakilala mo sa inyo banwa. It still feel safe and nice riding Iloilo jeepneys. Kis-a hidlaw ka man makabit sa jeep or sit sa roof area sang salakyan. One time nga nagpauli ko, nag-hire kami jeep going to Shamrock Beach sa Guimbal. Ay ato gid ako iya sa unahan sang atop sang salakyan nag-puwesto. It's a different feeling migs. Take this as a challenge. I hope before the year ends, may ara na taker sang project nga ini. Panay Railways' is a very important means of public transpost sa aton. It will surely help boost the island's economy so tani suportahan ini siya sang mga governors sang apat ka probinsiya. more often than not, mas madasig pa gani kung private investors ang mauyat sang project nga ini. But what would be our selling point? Amo ina ang pamangkot. And when are they going to start and finish the project? Indi ayhan mas maayo if joint venture na lang sang government and a private company? I think Molo was given the distinction of "Athens of the Philippines" because back in the day, a lot of intellectuals and politicians came from molo. Referred to as the "Athens of the Philippines" because of the numerous intellectual giants it has produced (seven senators, seven governors of Iloilo and four justices of the Supreme Court). Molo is noted for its coral Gothic-Renaissance church built in the 1800s, antique collection, Panaderia de Molo biscuits and original Pancit Molo. kirby21 February 21st, 2007, 03:15 AM SM City Iloilo bares Miniature Paraw winners SM City Iloilo officially announced the winners of the Miniature Paraw Making Competition February 18, 2007. :) ha ha. Puwede man. They can acquire more lands first before expansion before sila makapatindog another building. Ang area sa gilid siguro puwede man nila mahimu-an new building and access road kung gusto nila. Again, depende man ini sa Alta Tierra Management sa part sini maapektuhan sila. spacewagon1 February 21st, 2007, 03:28 AM http://www.iloilo.gov.ph/images/stories/tourism/iloilo_txt2.gifhttp://www.iloilo.gov.ph/images/stories/tourism/ilo_heart3.gif http://www.iloilo.gov.ph/images/banners/ILO.gif http://www.iloilo.gov.ph/images/banners/iloilo1.gif (http://www.iloilo.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_banners&task=click&bid=7) http://www.iloilo.gov.ph/images/banners/banner_new1gif.gif (http://www.iloilo.gov.ph/index.php?option=com_banners&task=click&bid=16) Welcome to Iloilo City and Province Thread 32 Hala Bira ! http://home.arcor.de/sabine.huelse/HTML/WAPPEN/ORIGINAL/ILOILO.JPG         http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/chymera00/iloilocitypics/iloilobanner.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/chymera00/etching/IndependenceDayBanner2.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/chymera00/iloilocitypics/feelthedrumsbeating.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/chymera00/iloilocitypics/iloilosscbanner.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y54/chymera00/iloilocitypics/IloiloBannerMalls.jpg spacewagon1 February 21st, 2007, 03:29 AM Let's continue our discussion at ILOILO - T32 please post on our new thread. Iloilo - Getting Into a Bigger Picute, thread 32. Thanks guys. spacewagon1 February 21st, 2007, 03:32 AM Iloilo City gears for international convention Jeehan V. Fernandez AFTER staging four consecutive giant festivals, Iloilo City is gearing up to host big gatherings to project the place as the next convention destination in this part of the country. Mayor Jerry Treñas is anticipating that the metropolis will have its first international convention which will be spearheaded by a global organization promoting children’s welfare. It will be held in a hotel resort in Jaro District in the coming months. Treñas said the Save the Children has started communicating with City Hall regarding the affair that will gather delegates across the globe. “They are organizing an international conference (and) are getting participants from all over the world,” he added. Several national conventions have also been lined up for Iloilo City. The mayor said the Association of Cooperatives slated its conference in the city in March while the conventions of the Association of Sheriffs, Association of Medical Technologists, and Association of Philippine Surgeons with around 1,500 participants, are scheduled here in April. Also, the Philippine Association of Civil Registrars with more than 1,000 members plans to organize their meeting in the city by June. Treñas hopes that these will establish the city as a convention center in the Visayas. “Aside from modern facilities and very affordable prices of food and accommodation, the city is also known to be a safe place for visitors,” Treñas said, adding the organizers could easily attract visitors with these factors. “I am very happy to welcome these big conventions here. Because even if each participant will spend only P500, this would translate to millions of pesos as they stay in the hotels, dine in restaurants, shop at business establishments, visit tourist spots and buy souvenirs and pasalubong,” said Treñas. “The economic impact will be really big out of these gatherings. Thus we really have to develop the culture of tourism for us to take advantage of the opportunities it brings,” Treñas explained. Treñas lauded the Iloilo City Visitors Bureau (ICVB), Iloilo City Tourism and Cultural Council (ICTCC) and Iloilo Hotels, Restaurants and Resorts Association (IHRRA) as effective major players for drawing tourists to the city. He also commended the private sector-led Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) and Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation (IPRF) for the successful celebration of Dinagyang Festival Jan. 28 and Paraw Reggata Feb. 18. What a very impressive poses you have ! I'm thinking of you doing an oblation (self-oblating) at the UPV-Miag-ao. :) Besides, what are you doing backriding on a Miag-ao jeepney? I'd rather sit at the top of a jeep than "kabit sa likod". Anyway, those pictures really shows the many faces of Enrico Dee. Thanks for sharing them all to us. spacewagon1 February 21st, 2007, 10:40 AM Iloilo likely to pass law on animal protection, welfare Ian C. The steelbridge is considered the longest bridge in the province of Iloilo or probably of Panay Island. The black and white colour made it more distinct and decent. spacewagon1 February 21st, 2007, 12:34 PM Welcome to Thread 32! Eric, check in the archive, their 502/503 posts. I don't think they'll lock the thread for no reason at all 'cept when it reaches the minimum number of posts. Anyway, it's a new thead. And there's few things I really want to comment about in our previous thread, but there you go. Time to hit another round. This time I want a closing post. Thanks for Spacewagon for starting the thread. And a really nice opening entry. Cheerio. Bring them all here Kirby. You can still copy and paste some of the posts from previous threads though it'll take a little bit of time off hand. It will surely makes discussions here free flowing and without any reserves of leaving important issues on the last thread. Well, at times, I get lost when starting a new thread all along especially with some issues left unfinished. Otherwise, let's just jump to another topics of recent interest. I've started this new thread cos Lew :) reminded us that we already hit 500 posts and we're still blabbering around. he he. Get into the habit of making a new one when we reached the minimum posts sans reminder. he he. |
