1,000 municipal councilors convene in Iloilo city for board meeting

ILOILO CITY, June 7 (PNA) – Some 1,000 municipal councilors from all over the country gathered in this city Thursday for the 2nd Quarterly National Executive Officers and National Board Meeting at Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center.

Philippine Councilors League national chairman Alan Zulueta said that their meeting slated today, June 7 to June 9 will be graced by Sen. Manny Villar and Sen. Edgardo Angara who have been very supportive of the league for years.

Zulueta said that it was Senator Angara who has been their in the launch of the 'Search for 10 outstanding councilors of the Philippines', now on its third year.

The PCL is also lobbying support from Senator Villar for the completion of their project, PCL Hostel, where councilors from the provinces could stay whenever they are in Manila. Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, a former councilor of Taguig, initially funded the project in the amount of P 5 million, he said.

Zulueta said some resource persons come from the Civil Service Commission to talk about Republic Act 10156, which is an Act conferring to members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Sangguniang Panlungsod and Sangguniang Panlalawigan appropriate Civil Service Eligibilities.

“Until now we are still waiting for the implementing rules and regulations of the law,” Zulueta said.

Likewise, some resource speakers would discuss the GSIS coverage since councilors who have graduated after serving their three terms no longer enjoy GSIS benefits so they would like to propose an amendment on this to help their members.

“We also want to modify rules for the search of outstanding councilors since we found that winners always come from the highly urbanized cities and we want to give a chance to the municipalities to also win,” Zulueta said.

He cited Iloilo Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, a former councilor of the highly urbanized city of Iloilo, who’s one of those who had received the prestigious award.

Meanwhile, PCL Secretary General Ramon Tabor said that there are many councilors from all over who want to be part of their meeting and so they expect a lot more to arrive in Iloilo city.

He said that this meeting supposedly will be hosted by Cagayan de Oro where he comes from but because of the devastation of Typhoon Sendong the people there have not yet fully recovered and so he is thankful to PCL Iloilo city and chapters from Iloilo province for hosting the national gathering. Iloilo river summit lays ground work for world rivers network

ILOILO CITY – The just concluded First Philippine International River Summit hosted by the city government here and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources last May 30 to June 1, 2012, has successfully laid the ground works for a global river network and exchange of ideas.

City environment and natural resources officer Engr. Noel Hechanova said the summit also spelled the need for and exchange of capability building and exchange visits with countries hosting rivers.

The Iloilo summit was attended by some 1,300 delegates from the national and local areas including city mayors in the Philippines on top of foreign delegates.

A total of 15 countries sent delegates to the Iloilo river summit with some 200 international speakers who focused on governance, river management, disaster risk management and climate change.

Hechanova said the idea was one of the summit outputs proposed by representatives of the Rivers of the World (ROW) based in Maryland, United States.

Summit participants also submitted a declaration on Global River Initiatives in Iloilo City that will become the basis of all other succeeding river summit and conferences.

Hechanova said there is an existing continuing search for knowledge and different river associations in the world gave positive responses for the creation of a very good network.

Among the countries set to pace a river network and exchange of information are Australia, Japan, countries in the Asia Pacific rim and Maryland USA.

CSC explains requirements for key gov't position

ILOILO CITY, June 8 (PNA)- Amidst the furor over who should sit as Bureau of Fire and Protection Regional Director for Western Visayas, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) has summarized service requirements by which a candidate for government executive positions should satisfy.

Civil Service Commission Region 6 director Rodolfo Encojonado said anybody seeking a high government post such as a Regional Director should first and foremost be a holder of a Career Executive Service Officer III (CESO-3) Eligibility.

A Career Officer's term of office is permanent in nature, and therefore cannot be removed unjustly.

A presidential appointee without a CESO eligibility does not measure up to the position, and the longest he can stay in office is 12 months which is temporary in nature, Encojonado said.

However, the CSC Executive said that every government office has its own qualifications to be met, and one armed with a B.S. Degree and accompanied by a specialized training like a Master's Degree may suffice. (PNA)

University chancellor to grace Independence Day
Friday, June 8, 2012

CHANCELLOR of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Dr. Rommel Espinosa will deliver the Independence Day message as the city celebrates the 114th anniversary of the Philippine Independence on Tuesday, June 12.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the celebration will be held at the Plaza Libertad with the theme “Kalayaan 2012: Pananagutan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na Daan.”

The activity is also part of the Diamond Jubilee of the Iloilo City Charter Day celebration set on August 24.

Mabilog said city lone district Representative Jerry Treñas and Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III will join him in the early morning flag-raising ceremony and wreath-laying at the plaza, after which, a program will follow.

Espinosa was elected UPV chancellor last year. He is a mechanical engineering graduate at the UP, 5th placer in the licensure examination in 1985, a doctorate holder, associate professor of Physics and a software developer.

Among his experiences, he was selected as the UPV representative of the National Science Consortium in 2008-2011, coordinator for CHEC Faculty Development Program for UPV in 2008-2011 and chair of the Project Development Committee of the UPHSI building in May 2011-October 2011.

Summit lays groundwork for world rivers network
Friday, June 8, 2012

THE First Philippine International River Summit hosted by the Iloilo City of Iloilo last May 30 to June 1 has successfully laid the groundwork for global river network.

City environment and natural resources officer Engr. Noel Hechanova said the summit also identified the need for exchange of capability building and exchange visits with countries hosting rivers.

Among the countries set to pace a river network and exchange of information are Australia, Japan, countries in the Asia Pacific rim and Maryland, USA.

The river network was one of the summit outputs proposed by representatives of the Rivers of the World based in Maryland, USA.

Summit participants also submitted a declaration on Global River Initiatives in Iloilo City that will become the basis of all other succeeding river summits and conferences.

The summit was attended by some 1,300 delegates from the national and local areas including city mayors of the country on top of foreign delegates.

Fifteen countries participated in the summit with some 200 international speakers who focused on governance, river management, disaster risk management and climate change. (Lydia C. Pendon)

SEAir expands with a vengeance

FRESH from a US$7-million investment by Singapore’s Tiger Airways (TTG Asia e-Daily, June 5, 2012), Philippine carrier Southeast Asian Airlines (SEAir) is embarking on a domestic expansion spree with the launch of seven new routes from Manila.

Starting July 1, SEAir will operate thrice-daily flights on the Manila-Cebu route. On August 1, the carrier will start daily services between Manila and Tacloban. Daily flights between Manila and Iloilo will commence on August 2, followed by daily services between Manila and Puerto Princesa on August 3.

On August 4, daily services will begin on the Manila-Kalibo route. Two more routes linking Manila to Davao (twice-daily) and Bacolod (daily) will be launched on August 18 and 20, respectively.

To facilitate its growth, SEAir will add one new Airbus A320 aircraft to its fleet within the next fortnight, with another two planes expected to join the fleet in July.

There are some minor issues with regards to the bldg's deterioration. but I guess they already know that and might have been considered on the purchase value.

I remember sang una may nakita ako di nga rendering about the shopping center nga ala southern US style nga mga building sang Savannah. Most likely siguro pareho gid sadto ang mga design nila.

Maybe you were referring to the "Retail Strip"? Can't find the render though since I am pressed for time. Quite busy and all. Anyway I hope this "kuris-kuris" can help a bit. :)

Timeline ( daw facebook ba? :lol: )

Savannah : 2000 (12 years and 4 or 5 communities?)

Georgia International Academy : 2008

Church : currently U/C

Camella Mall : within this year after the Church. (based on Camella press release)

PS: Rated PG is on the other side, fronting Aleosan Terminal while Rated R, I think will be incorporated with the Camella Mall. :D

ayos pre ah..ma update-update lang ko d sa mga projects namun..pro cgurado next week my go signal na..:) batch 2010 ko pre nag graduate sa san agustin..

Actually, that location pre you labeled for the mall is the location of the football field. Ara na na dira, and may exhibition na dira last December sa iya opening.

Right now, the existing structures based on the plan are the Georgia International School and the Football field. The mall's location is near their main gate, lapit sa dalan.

Is there any plans anytime soon na palapadon ang Aleosan na road?
