Negative. Remember the Milk Code controversy?

Roxas was the author of the Milk Code of the Philippines and it was a watered down version of the original draft in order to give way to foriegn milk companies. These milk companies lobbied hard against compulsory breastfeeding because they lose a lot of money.

Now, there was a research study that concluded that breast milk will significantly have positive results on a baby's brain development early on in life and even up to adulthood and that it is recommended that babies be breastfed up to two years. The law supposed to make this mandatory. The milk companies lobbied hard against this. Mar Roxas the senator gave in and had it redrafted. Now we have a compromised milk code. Mar roxas easily gives in to strong business groups.

I suggest he should just work for his own company. That way, we will have one less self serving politico in the government.

Is there a new milk code? As far i know E.O. 51 is still in effect and has not been amended yet. Breast milk is mandatory in all hospitals, mothers cant even bring feeding bottles during their OPD follow ups as it is banned.

That's precisely the reason why there was a mistranslation. The americans arent spanish speakers. So they stuck with their flawed translation.

well doc, i stand corrected. There is no new milk code. However, there was a supreme court decision which allowed the enforcement of the Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations (RIRR) of the Philippine Milk Code.

Here are the details I found in a blog which addresses the issue: http://keepabreastphils.blogspot.com/2007/10/media-confusion-on-philippines-milk.html

Well, yup. Hard to believe right? Just because it has been going on for a long does not make it right.

There is an actual spansih decree promulgated by the queen of spain that gave the city two titles:

1. The most loyal and noble city of Iloilo (La muy leal y noble de cuidad de iloilo)

And because we are considered loyal to spain even to the very last day of revolution, we were given the title, by virtue of a decree, declaring the city to be

2. The Queen's city of the south.

Bernie knows this, he has the sources. This issue was discussed before, I suggest you ask them so that we can clear up some confusion.

By the way, daw mayo na avator mo pre haw, ano ina, sukhoi flanker 27?

Panay Electric cites measures to stabilize Iloilo power supply

ILOILO CITY -- Amid calls for a review of the 25-year franchise Panay Electric Co., Inc.’s (PECo) due to alleged poor services, a top official of the utility assured that projects are under way to improve distribution and ensure stable power supply.
Luis Miguel A. Cacho, president and chief executive officer of PECo, cited upgrading of distribution facilities and substation equipment as among such projects.

"As Iloilo moves forward in progress, we at PECo are fully committed to improving on the services we currently are providing to Ilonggos. Our system losses have gone down, but we believe we can bring this down even further to the single digit levels," Mr. Cacho said in a recent statement.

....

"Because of the now-cheaper cost of primary power, electricity rates went down to P11.61/kWh (per kilowatt-hour) as of January 2012 from P12.58 kWh (average) that PECo charged the consumers last November 2010," he said.

He added that PECo’s distribution charge of P1.54/ kWh is lower compared to Metro Manila’s Meralco (P2.64/kWh), Metro Cebu’s Visayas Electric Co. (P2.18/kWh), Iloilo Electric Cooperative (Ileco) I (P1.90/kWh), Ileco II (P1.94/kWh), Ileco III (P1.89), Capiz Electric Cooperative (P2.08) and Guimaras Electric Cooperative (P2.66). -- F. A. L.

That way, we will have one less self serving politico in the government.

dugangan ta... ari hu. Ill advise kung taga ZEST AIR pa ang pahambalon.

Airlines told to cut flights from Naia

The government ordered local airlines to cut their flights out of Manila by as much as 30 percent.
This was contained in a directive that was aimed at easing congestion at the country’s premiere international airport.
Private jets and “fish run” operators, which take up about 18 percent of the facility’s capacity, will be allowed to remain and maintain their capacities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“The airlines, knowing the flight limitations of the Naia runway and realizing that their scheduled flights exceed the runway safety limits, have voluntarily hired and subjected themselves to a common independent flight scheduler,” Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas said.
Roxas said the independent company removed many peak-hour flights and moved these to off-peak times of day.
“The government is here to ensure safety and passenger convenience,” he said. “The new schedules have been submitted and will take effect once cleared.”
However, Alfredo M. Herrera, vice president for marketing of Zest Airways, said the move was the latest in a series of ill-advised measures that were adopted in reaction to an insignificant number of passengers complaining of airline abuses.

Iloilo, Guimaras officials in Canada for watershed gab
By Lydia C. Pendon

ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog here and Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor led a group of government officials in Iloilo and Guimaras in going to Toronto, Canada on June 13, 2012 until the end of the month in a learning exchange on watershed management.
The travel of about 15 persons from Iloilo to Canada will be fully shouldered by Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) as its commitment in the implementation of a bioregion project in Iloilo and Guimaras.
Mabilog said the roundtable discussions on watershed and disaster risk management will be moderated by Fred Eisenberger, president and chief executive officer of the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) who was recently a major speaker of the first Philippine International River Summit held in this city on May 30 to June 1, 2012.
While in Iloilo, Eisenberger talked on “Water Resources Management Approaches,” while Gary Wilkins, also of CUI talked on “Changing the Conservation to Watershed Management.”
The Canadian tour will focus on the topic “Under the Weather: Stewardship and Climate-Proofing for Urban Watersheds in Ontario and the Philippines” that will cover the situation in Toronto when Hurricane Hazel hit the country in 1954. Typhoon Frank devastated Iloilo in 2008 and both areas were caught unprepared to meet the challenges of such a big typhoon magnitude.

Typhoon Frank hit the city and destroyed several lives, homes, livelihoods and infrastructure, as rivers spilled their banks. The typhoon had put in motion the Metro-Iloilo Guimaras Bioregion Project, which today, is working to improve watershed management and disaster risk reduction across the region supported by CUI.

Mabilog said the learning exchange will focus on how these two urban regions are advancing stewardship, leadership and innovation for their ecosystems and exchanging best practices between nations.

The Iloilo and Guimaras officials will be exposed to Canada’s watersheds that showcase best practices on actual sites with the bioregion as a new concept that goes beyond political borders.
This will also cover application of sustainability practices and climate change adaptation on a watershed basis.

The city mayor, chairman of the Metro Iloilo Guimaras Economic Development Council (Migedc), said the bioregion project is part of CUI’s international partnership program and receives financial contribution from the Canadian government provided through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

Defensor, on the other hand, is chairman of the Tigum-Aganan Watershed Management Board (TAWMB) that covers at least five municipalities in the province passed by the Tigum-Aganan River.

Included in the Canadian trip aside from Mabilog and Defensor are Guimaras Governor Felipe Hilan Nava, Department of Interior and Local Government Regional Director Evelyn Trompeta, Department of Environment and Natural Resources assistant regional director Alicia Lustica, Iloilo mayors Mariano Malones of Maasin, Juanito Alipao of Alimodian, Rolito Cajilig, Robert Maroma of Cabatuan and Dennis Superficial of Sta. Barbara and Soledad Sucaldito of PENRO Iloilo. Also joining the group are Benjamin Luz and Jerry Pacheco of CUI Iloilo.

Aside from Eisenberger, also joining the panel are Brian Denny, chief administrative officer of Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and Gary Wilkins, a watershed specialist.
The group will be touring different watershed areas in Canada with roundtable discussions on June 19 at the Black Creek Pioneer Village Visitors Centre, Murray Ross Parkway, North Theatre (main floor) in Toronto. _______________________________________

DILG 6 gears up annual search for outstanding barangay tanod

ILOILO CITY, June 13 (PNA) – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) office here asked for the support of local government units, especially village officials, in its annual search for “Outstanding Barangay Tanod.”

Clyne Deocampo, chief of the DILG Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division (LGMED), said that members of Regional Management Coordinating Committee (RMCC), chaired by regional director Evelyn Trompeta, geared up for the search that would kick off this July.

The search will culminate in September with the awarding ceremony to cap the celebration of the National Crime Prevention Week.

The annual search is a pioneer project of the RMCC 6 to recognize the contribution of volunteer peace-keepers at the barangay level. The search covers the legal basis for the organization of the barangay tanod, organization and functional structure, logistical and financial support, trainings, support facilities and equipment as well as accomplishments.

It has four categories, namely the outstanding individual tanod, outstanding group tanod, heroism award and posthumous award.

Among others, the award hopes to provide incentives to best performing barangay tanods; strengthen the volunteer system and auxiliary network between and among public and private responders; strengthen the monitoring system at various levels and provide a vehicle for improvement of skills, knowledge and techniques in pursuit of the preservation of peace and order and public safety. Iloilo, Guimaras have surplus in rice despite lean months

ILOILO CITY, June 13 (PNA) – The province of Iloilo and its neighboring island province Guimaras have rice surplus even if it is now the beginning of lean months.

Based on the data of the National Food Authority, Iloilo and Guimaras provinces now have a buffer stock lasting for 75 days.

The buffer stock is being computed based on the daily consumption of the residents of the two provinces that is 21,080 bags per day.

The buffer stock is equivalent to 1.6 million bags of rice being stored right now by the commercial rice traders, households, and the NFA.

The NFA Iloilo provincial office also continues to procure rice from the farmers, but its procurement from January to June this year is only less than 20,000 bags despite the sufficient budget downloaded by the central office.

The NFA procurement is being affected because of the higher price offering of the commercial traders which is about P20 per kilo as compared to that of the NFA that is only about P17.00 per kilo of rice and the sporadic harvest after the second cropping last year. (PNA)

8 LGUs from W. Visayas to avail of SALINTUBIG project

ILOILO CITY, June 13 (PNA) -– Eight local government units (LGUs) from Western Visayas are set to receive projects under the "Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig para sa Lahat" (SALINTUBIG) project facilitated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The beneficiaries have been identified as waterless and non-waterless LGUs with waterless barangays.

Among the waterless barangays are President Roxas in Capiz and Salvador Benedicto and Toboso in Negros Occidental.

On the other hand, the municipalities of Sta. Barbara, Alimodian and Cabatuan in Iloilo, Barbaza in Antique and Pontevedra in Negros Occidental were those identified as non-waterless municipalities covering waterless barangays.

The recipients’ planning officers, municipal engineers and local government operations officers as well as provincial focal persons and provincial engineers recently gathered for the 2012 SALINTUBIG Orientation-Workshop. The workshop focused on the capability enhancement of participating LGUs in coming-up with their project proposals and detailed engineering designs.

Marivic Nocum of the Office of the Project Development Services (OPDS) from DILG Central Office and the Asst. Project Manager for SALINTUBIG laid the ground for the project implementation schemes and its background.

Dr. Elvie Villalobos from the Department of Health-Region 6 was also invited to provide guidance to LGUs in their project proposal such that it conforms with the standards on water facilities.

Another workshop is slated for six other LGU recipients on June 18-21 at Roxas City, Capiz. (PNA)

131 get jobs in Saudi Arabia

ILOILO CITY, June 13 (PNA) -– A total of 131 job seekers were hired to work in Saudi Arabia after a rigid interview and screening done at the City Hall on June 11 and 12.

The International Resource Development Services hired the workers through the City Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

“We are happy that a lot of Ilonggos are gaining employment here or abroad,” Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog said.

The official also said the city government’s pro-poor projects include means to address unemployment and underemployment problems like the conduct of job fairs and special recruitment activities.

PESO manager Alan Zaldivar said a total of 202 applicants lined-up for two days to undergo the selection process.

Jobs offered in a mall in Saudi Arabia are for the position of salesclerks, merchandisers, managers and supervisors.

Signing of employment contract is on June 20 at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Iloilo City Hall. (PNA)

City gives livelihood assistance to PWDs

ILOILO CITY, June 13 (PNA) – Thirty persons with disabilities (PWDs) and their families received livelihood assistance from the city government to allow them start their own small businesses and augment their income.

Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog turned-over the financial aid to beneficiaries identified by the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) and Breaking Barriers for Young Adults (BBY) with Disabilities in a ceremony held at City Hall recently.

“The city government has always been mindful of the plight of PWDs that is why we are opening opportunities for them so they will be able to take part in the continued progress of our city,” Mabilog said.

Seventeen beneficiaries under PDAO, composed of PWDs or a parent with a “differently-abled” child below 15 years old, were recipients of financial assistance totaling P70,000.

Thirteen BBY beneficiaries, also PWDs, received P50,000 worth of livelihood package.

The amount given as capital ranged from P2,000 to P5,000 with businesses like sari-sari store; food, rice and charcoal vending; hog raising; bakeshop; buy and sell of meat; and liquid and detergent soap making, among others.

BBY focal person Regina Salmon said beneficiaries were indigents “who have existing, viable projects that need additional capital or those who want to put up a new business.”

She said since BBY started giving out livelihood assistance in 2008, 60 already benefited, while PDAO which began the project last year has 32 beneficiaries in all.

The funds were allocated by the city government, she added. (PNA)

DSWD to implement 120 days supplemental feeding in WV

ILOILO CITY, June 13 (PNA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development(DSWD) will soon be implementing supplemental feeding program (SFP) good for 120 days for this school year.

Sally Gayoma, in charge of the SFP of the DSWD Regional Office 6, said that they are now preparing for the implementation of the program hopefully by July.

She said that the SFP will be implemented to benefit the Day Care children enrolled in the different Day Care Centers of the total 133 local government units (LGUs) of Western Visayas.

The SFP will provide cooked rice cereals and viands to the Day Care children aimed to mitigate hunger and thereby address malnutrition among them.

Gayoma said that last school year they also implemented the SFP among the 133 LGUs. The NFA just like this year will be the one to deliver the iron fortified rice that will be cooked by parents of Day Care children right in the center.

The budget for the SFP that will be transferred to the NFA this year is about P275 million. (PNA)

Iloilo, Guimaras officials attend international watershed gab
By Lydia C. Pendon
Wednesday, June 13, 2012

ILOILO CITY – Government officials here and in Guimaras are attending a conference on watershed management in Toronto, Canada from June 13, 2012 until the end of the month.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor are among the local officials. The travel expenses of the 15 officials are fully shouldered by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI).

The Iloilo and Guimaras officials will be exposed to Canada’s watersheds best practices and climate change adaptation.

Fred Eisenberger, CUI president and chief executive officer, will moderate the discussions on watershed and disaster risk management.

Mabilog said Eisenberger was one of the speakers of the first Philippine International River Summit held in this city recently.

The conference in Canada is dubbed “Under the Weather: Stewardship and Climate-Proofing for Urban Watersheds in Ontario and the Philippines.”

The situation in Toronto when Hurricane Hazel hit in 1954 and the Typhoon Frank devastation in Iloilo in 2008 are parts of the discussion.

Typhoon Frank destroyed lives, homes, livelihoods and infrastructure after rivers spilled their banks. The Metro-Iloilo Guimaras Bioregion Project was realized and it is working on to improve watershed management and disaster risk reduction across the region.

The bioregion project is part of CUI’s international partnership program and receives financial contribution from the Canadian government provided through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

Aside from Mabilog and Defensor, among the delegates are Guimaras Governor Felipe Hilan Nava, Department of Interior and Local Government Regional Director Evelyn Trompeta, Department of Environment and Natural Resources assistant regional director Alicia Lustica, Iloilo mayors Mariano Malones of Maasin, Juanito Alipao of Alimodian, Rolito Cajilig, Robert Maroma of Cabatuan and Dennis Superficial of Sta. Iloilo, Guimaras LCEs off to Canada for learning exchange visit

ILOILO CITY, June 13 (PNA) – Local chief executives (LCEs) from the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras and selected municipalities took off for Toronto, Canada Wednesday to join the Learning Exchange on Sustainable Bio-regional Planning.

The Learning Exchange hosted by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) and supported by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), is aimed at “building the knowledge and skills of project partners in Metro-Iloilo Guimaras, said CUI senior project officer Olga Semenovych.

Semenovych said the exchange visit also aims to pursue regional collaboration to improve natural resource management and disaster management while supporting economic development of communities.

She said that the visit will provide the participants with tools and approaches to help them finalize the Tigum-Aganan State Watershed Report Card, develop a roadmap for the updating of the Tigum-Aganan Watershed Management Plan, and begin working on the assessment of coastal resource management within their coverage.

“We have selected meetings with provincial, municipal and local government agencies and civil society organizations demonstrating the diversity of approaches to watershed management, disaster risk reduction management, climate change adaptation and local economic development,” Semenovych added.

Joining the exchange visit were Governors Arthur Defensor Sr and Felipe Hilan Nava of Iloilo and Guimaras, respectively; Mayors Jed Patrick Mabilog, Juanito Alipao, Rolto Cajilig and Roberto Maroma.

Also part of the delegation are Environment and Natural Resources regional technical director Alicia Lustica and Iloilo Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Sol Sucaldito.

They were accompanied by Gregory Benjamin Luz, project manager of CUI-Iloilo. (PNA)

Cebu Gov. Garcia hails social workers as 'unsung heroes'

ILOILO CITY, June 14 (PNA) – Cebu Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia hailed the Social Workers as “unsung heroes” because of their lifelong commitment to serve the poor, deprived individuals and those victims of social injustice.

Gov. Garcia, who is the keynote speaker in the Annual Conference and General Assembly of the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI) Iloilo Chapter at Punta Villa Resort here in Iloilo city today, said that it is the social workers who have lifelong and life-changing commitment to help those underprivileged members of society.

“You never sought greater comfort and easier way in life. But rather you heeded your burning sense for duty,” the lady governor contended.

She said that the career in social work, in fact, is the most gratifying and that the work of Social Workers can’t be understated. “I salute to your sense of duty,” Gov. Garcia contended.

She then urged social workers to hold on to their great sense of duty for it is what the country needs nowadays.

Meanwhile, Iloilo Provincial Administrator Raul Banias who represented Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. described the social workers as a “rare breed” for it is them who face the problems of their clients every day.

“Many are interested to take up Social Work course because it is the Social Workers who are the real agents of change and development,” Banias contended.

The assembly, spearheaded by PASWI Iloilo Chapter president Dr. Neneth Q. Pador, is but part of the Social Work week celebration that kicked off yesterday in the entire Western Visayas. The theme for this year's celebration is “Social Workers in Changing Times”.(PNA)

Western Visayas 84 coastal towns under tight monitoring

ILOILO CITY, June 14 (PNA) - Illegal fishing activities continue despite the active seaborne patrol operations conducted by different government units in Western Visayas.

As part of its mandate, the Regional Maritime Unit 6 (RMU-6) here is closely monitoring illegal fishing activities in 84 coastal towns and cities region-wide.

SPO2 Felimon Espinosa of RMU-6’s operation division said as of second quarter of the year, they have so far arrested a total of 173 fishermen and impounded 43 fishing vessels in their operations.

He said arrested fishermen were caught violating the municipal ordinance or fishing within the 15-kilometer distance from the shoreline. Other violations are operating without license and permit.

Espinosa stressed most of these violators came from provinces and city of Iloilo, Negros Occidental and Bacolod, respectively.

In Iloilo, Espinosa said violators were from northern towns of Concepcion and Carles. Others were arrested in Bacolod City and towns of Binalbagan, San Carlos and Himamaylan, all in Negros Occidental.

Espinosa said the present figure has been decreased compared to last year’s arrest, but he failed to give the exact figure.

The police officer also stressed that many additional land-based activities such as tree planting, clean-up drive, and search and rescue trainings hampered their present operations – the reason they got minimal arrests.

Aside from the maritime group, other agencies such as police offices from all provinces in the region were also obliged to conduct seaborne patrol at their municipal territorial waters. (PNA)

DOH 6 to go full swing on rotavirus vaccination in July

ILOILO CITY, June 14 (PNA) – The Department of Health-Center for Health Development 6 (DOH-CHD 6) will go full swing on the implementation of rotavirus vaccination in July, according to Dr. Renilyn Reyes, regional medical coordinator for the department’s expanded program on immunization (EPI).

Reyes said that 16,600 vaccines are already available at the DOH 6 office to be distributed in Panay provinces while supplies intended for Negros Occidental will be downloaded to the province directly from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM). The vaccines will be distributed after the completion of the orientation of municipal and barangay program implementers.

Initially the free rotavirus vaccine will be made available to those who are included in the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) targeting some 2.7 percent of households listed in the program.

The rotavirus vaccination is an initiative to prevent rotavirus disease among children. Rotavirus is the most common cause of severe diarrheal disease in infants and young children worldwide, Reyes said.

She said that in the Philippines, at least 30 percent of diarrheal-related hospitalizations and some 3,698 deaths are due to rotavirus.

The vaccination will be for infants six weeks up to 15 weeks old only to be administered in two doses.

Despite the availability of the vaccine, the public is further encouraged to observe other prevention measures such as good sanitation and hygiene, improved water quality and exclusive breastfeeding. (PNA)

in this context daw ka klaro man siguro nga tungod may order nga decrease ang flights and or transfer ang flights sa off peak hours, ang ubrahon sang airlines is to cancel leas profitable flights or probably change ang schedule.. however, given nga ang iban nga airports indi man 24hrs ang operation, laban laban ma resort sila sa cancellation sang flights..

WVSU marks 110th anniversary

THE WEST Visayas State University (WVSU) is celebrating its 110th anniversary which will culminate this week.

Themed “Keeping Ablaze WVSU’s Passion for Excellence @ 110 and Beyond”, the celebration is highlighted by cultural shows, lectures, medical mission, games, parades exhibits and grand fiesta.

San Juan Rep. Joseph Victor G. Ejercito will keynote the anniversary celebration today at the WVSU main campus in LaPaz, Iloilo City.

Established in 1902, West Visayas State University (WVSU) started out as Iloilo Normal School.

Part of the university’s future thrusts is to put up specialized courses in its five external campuses - Pototan, Janiuay, Calinog and Lambunao in Iloilo and Himamaylan in Negros Occidental.

It was a tributary normal school providing basic and secondary education as well as a training department for teachers.

By virtue of Republic Act No. 4189 in 1965, Iloilo Normal School became West Visayas State College. Courses aside from the earlier established teacher training programs were added. By the year 1986, through Presidential Decree 2019, it became West Visayas State University.

Resettlement project for Iloilo River residents takes off
By Elsa S. Subong
Thursday 14th of June 2012

ILOILO CITY, June 14 (PIA) -– Informal settlers along Iloilo River, affected by the developments being undertaken to clean the river, are now assured of a decent house and lot.

President Benigno S. Aquino III personally distributed the certificates of Lot Award for 10 of the 1,000 owners of housing units from 20 barangays affected, during his visit here in June 1.

The ten spouses are residents of Bgy. North San Jose, Molo, Iloilo City, namely Enrile and Nemia Sierra, Romel and Jojie Depita, Eddie and Marlin G. Barros, Emilio and Mary Jane Desmoparan, Jr., Francisco and Rowena Gefes, Elias and Janet Bartocillo, Nestor and Aurelio Desmoparan, Julius and Cathy Galapin, Grochen and Mary Grace Tayde, and June Cyrelle and Harriet Paguntalan.

The housing units, according to National Housing Authority Manager Engr. Isagani Jalbuena, are located in Bgys. Lanit and Camalig, Jaro, about five to six kilometers from the city proper to be laid out in 5.6 hectares of land.

Jalbuena said the project was created to develop a lot with row houses for the families affected, measuring about 40 square meters with 20 square meter floor area.

The site’s development features include alleys, roads, drainage system, water and individual service connection for electricity.

The city government bared that the project cost is P169 million (P100 million from Sen. Franklin Drilon, P60 million from the National Housing Authority), for the duration of 330 calendar days, starting this May 2012.

NHA said the informal settlers along the river are not disregarded by the local government in its bid to maintain its scenic beauty for tourism and investment purposes.

The agency added that these relocation houses and lots are not for free. Informal setters are required to pay an amortization to be determined yet by the LGU, as a means of further improving the site through the years.

For couple Francisco and Rowena Gefes, leaving the river banks and getting settled in an area with a lot and house of your own, no matter how small, is choosing a more stable state of living.

The Tayde couple thought having been driven out of the river meant losing a home and a livelihood.

“It meant instead, a hope for a better life, with this certificate given us,” Mary Grace Tayde said in dialect.

The initial activities now, the city planning office said, include the conduct of boundary relocation and survey to establish benchmark as to how the development project could impact on the socio-economic status of residents. (JCM/ESS/PIA-Iloilo)

Kag grabe gd daw ang investments sa Iloilo ya. Unlike sa ila (sila na naghambal ha?). Mayo man daw ang politicians diri subong. Damo daw road nga ginaconstruct. May biggest dam pa, ETC. (Sila na ya nag-enumerate ha). Ang time slot kagina mga past 6 ha? hehehe

Sa ila ya kuno ginahulat ang property sang governtment which is for lease kay amo ina ang biggest investment. kay ang for sale daw pa di gd matigayon. so my parcel of land nga for lease lang. And they are blaming some people and companies.

old news ah.

http://business.inquirer.net/56505/consunji-rural-bank-expands-reach-to-visayas-via-merger

ILOILO CITY—Consunji-owned One Network Bank (ONB), which has the widest network of rural banks in Mindanao, is set to establish its presence in the Visayas through the planned merger with the Rural Bank of San Enrique (Iloilo) Inc. (RBSEI).
ONB president Alex Buenaventura and RBSEI president Arturo Muyco Jr. signed a partnership agreement providing for a stock swap, whereby a share in RBSEI will be exchanged for 2.43 shares of ONB.
The agreement will pave the way for the merger of the two banks within a year with ONB as the surviving bank upon approval of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
The deal establishes the bank’s expansion in the Visayas through six branches of RBSEI in Iloilo City, Guimaras Island, Passi City and the towns of San Enrique and Dingle in Iloilo.
Another five branches would be added upon BSP’s approval, according to Buenaventura.
Modern banking services will be offered to rural communities served by the branches.
ONB has plans to put up new and modern branch buildings, electronic banking systems including automated teller machines, point of sale and Internet banking, bills payment, interbank and foreign remittances, online fund transfers and loans.
Buenaventura said bank clients could open an ATM account with a minimum deposit of P100.
“We want rural areas to have access to modern banking services which are underserved or unserved by commercial banks,” he said.
According to Buenaventura, Iloilo was chosen as its first expansion site because of the province’s many progressive communities outside the city that lack modern banking services.
“Banking can only grow if there is a lot of money and liquidity,” he said.
Muyco said RBSEI’s merger with ONB would stimulate the rural bank industry on Panay Island.
ONB has P2.565 billion in capital and P119.48 million in assets while RBSEI has a capital of P9.84 million.
The absorption of the RBSEI to ONB will boost the network’s branches to 98 from the current 87 branches in Mindanao with 1,206 employees and 120 automated teller machines.

-----

DMCI and ONB is Consunji Companies. Gasugod na siya ayhan pangsimhot sang hamot sa Iloilo?..lol
ngaa dri pa siya mauna ya sang sa probinsiya nga tam an kuno ka manggaranon haw?...lol

Royal Course

Your tides' spirit is mostly calm
Flowing through your gentle kingdom
Of people with a singsong tone
Like the smooth, winding course you own

You were once the blue, royal scene
Where riches were docked for your Queen
Jewel of the crown that was made
And given because of your trade

The city's fortune is your wife
In trying times and renewed life
Abound again, will your fishes
Both divine and man made riches.

Kasadyahan Festival in Iloilo - Philippines

One of the two important events that compose the famous and appealing Dinagyang Festival in the province of Iloilo, Kasadyahan Festival reveals the true culture and history of Ilonggos. Every year, many locals and tourist spend some time in Iloilo City to view this splendid, attractive, and interesting. At this celebration, people can watch enjoyable and beautiful cultural presentations that depict the culture of early people in the province. At this festival, tourists can also enjoy different delicacies in Iloilo since participants and local government prepare a feast for everyone.

How to Get to Iloilo City

Every last weekend of January, Kasadyahan Festival is annually held in the beautiful and historic City of Iloilo. Individuals from the other regions of the country who want to observe this celebration should travel to some of the major Philippine cities like Cebu City and Manila City to take flights to Iloilo airport, or they can also ride in roll-on roll-off vessels bound to Iloilo seaport. From the ports, people can easily find taxis and jeepneys that can transport them to Iloilo City. Estimated travel time from the Iloilo airport and seaport to the city proper is half hour.

What to See in the Festival

For those who want to be informed about the culture and history of Ilonggos, they should spend some time watching the cultural presentations at Kasadyahan Festival. Dance presentations at this special celebration usually feature different groups that represent or depict early tribes in the place. Some of the tribes that are commonly featured at this event are Tribu Tultugan, Tribu Madiaas, and Tribu Kasag. Aside from these, people can also have a glance at the culture of Tribu Kahilwayan and Tribu Bayhulay through the dance numbers represented by some dance groups in Iloilo.

History

With the aim of promoting the culture and history of Iloilo, Kasadyahan Festival is conceptualized by the local residents and provincial government in the late 1900s. Every year, dance groups, private corporations, and nonprofit organizations in Iloilo support this special celebration. To attract local groups to participate in the cultural presentations, the government gives special cash prizes to winners. For those who want to observe this event, they do not need to allot huge amount to money as their budget just to see the festival. For less than 500 pesos, including their transportation expenses from Iloilo airport and seaport, as well as their food allowance for a day, they can already have a good and remarkable time watching the special events featured at this celebration.

The Iloilo Paraw Regatta
Written by Jonathan Grant

Now on its 39th year, the Iloilo Paraw Regatta is the oldest traditional craft event in Asia, and the largest sailing event in the Philippines. The Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation currently organizes the activities, with leading support from the Iloilo City and Provincial Governments and the Department of Tourism, along with private sector donations.

Activities have been expanded to spread over a week. On the Saturday of the climactic weekend there is slalom racing on a course by the beach to facilitate crowd participation. On the Sunday, the thirty-kilometer distance race is sailed on a course in the Iloilo Strait, running up the coast of Panay and then down the coast of Guimaras, before returning to the finish at Villa Beach. Participant exposure to the events is in the tens of thousands.

The geophysical shape of the Iloilo Strait provides year round breezes. Thus the working sailboat still predominates. In these times of high fuel costs, and polluting oil spills, one can appreciate the simple ecology of the traditional paraw. Nevertheless, the skills needed to sail are far more complex.

The objective of the Regatta is to celebrate the skills of the paraw sailors, and bring a fiesta spirit into their lives. And with the colorful painted sails, this spirit is brought into the lives of participants and tourists as well.
