Global Business Power Corporation, through its subsidiaries Panay Energy Development Corp. (PEDC) and Panay Power Corp., now develop this mangrove area as a bird sanctuary and wetland eco-park -- in a five-year project partnership with the City Government, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the local communities near the adjoining power plants. PEDC plant manager Engr. Nilo Madrid said the project also aims to provide a recreational area for the community to enjoy and at the same time, increase awareness for the protection and management of the ecosystem. Carbon sequestration through forestry plays a significant role in solving global environmental problems such as accumulation of greenhouse gases and climate change. The project also aims to educate the public to be more conscious in protecting and conserving the environment. Madrid said they are also developing an additional seven hectares as an ecological park on top of rehabilitating and enhancing the natural mangrove area. It will include a mangrove nursery, nursery rearing shed, jetty port, and floating bar. Already in place are the wooden pathwalk of more than 200 meters and two park gazebos. It will become an integral part of the coastal eco-tourism project of the city. At present, it is home to 14 different species of mangroves and more than 50 species of migratory and endemic birds. The beneficiaries include an initial 33 families of more than 100 beneficiaries in Barangay Navais, Mandurriao district and 20 families out of more than 200 beneficiaries in San Isidro, Jaro district. Mabilog said the beneficiaries need to pay some P150 to P200 per month to the City Government in a ten-year period before a permanent land title is awarded to them. The papers of the remaining families are still being processed by the Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (Icupao) to determine the veracity of the residents. For, somehow, Father seems to be The man who pays the bills, While Mother binds up little hurts And nurses all our ills... And Father struggles daily To live up to "HIS IMAGE" As protector and provider And "hero or the scrimmage"... And perhaps that is the reason We sometimes get the notion, That Fathers are not subject To the thing we call emotion, But if you look inside Dad's heart, Where no one else can see You'll find he's sentimental And as "soft" as he can be... But he's so busy every day In the grueling race of life, He leaves the sentimental stuff To his partner and his wife... But Fathers are just WONDERFUL In a million different ways, And they merit loving compliments And accolade of praise, For the only reason Dad aspires To fortune and success Is to make the family proud of him And to bring them happiness... And like OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, He's a guardian and a guide, Someone that we can count on To be ALWAYS ON OUR SIDE. eonynx June 16th, 2012, 01:33 AM from DPI by HH photo by IM Posa crispy baby squid with mango and cucumber salad http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/600452_424179570946789_24738558_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 01:35 AM from DPI by HH photo by Oboi ILOILO ESPLANADE http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/269360_424159964282083_1389992743_n.jpg http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/556867_424159854282094_323752365_n.jpg angelkirk89 June 16th, 2012, 01:40 AM http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/534221_10150941371398643_647925496_n.jpg Looks familiar... http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/xx131/kirk0389/July%201%202011/043.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 01:43 AM from DPI by HH photo by L Torrico tigbauan ricefields. http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/547234_10150841322895870_951992430_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 01:45 AM from DPI by HH photo by L Torrico going to Brgy. In his speech during the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting yesterday, Megaworld chairman and president Andrew Tan said the company is poised to grab growth opportunities in the real estate sector as it expects increasing income from a slowly stabilizing economy, continued influx of foreign investors, and a low interest rate regime to drive property sales. Tan emphasized that the residential, commercial and office segments of the domestic property market continue to show significant growth in both the number of projects and in sales. “If this continues on to 2012 and beyond, we should expect the Philippines to eventually become replete with bustling metropolitan areas with modern skylines and complete mega-communities,” he said. Megaworld senior vice-president Kingson Sian said the company is extremely optimistic on prospects of net earnings growing double-digit this year from P8.1 billion in 2011. “We believe the winning sectors continue to be the property and BPO sectors. This is our decade,” he said. Sian added that the anticipated rating upgrade for the country to investment grade status will augur well for the real estate sector. Megaworld, which has been acknowledged as the country’s leading residential condominium developer, has acquired a landbank of around 230 hectares located in key growth areas, including 55 hectares of land in Iloilo and 25 hectares in Cebu. Within Fort Bonifacio, the company has 7.1 hectares of the former Napolcom land near the international schools and 8.5 hectares at the North Central Business District.... -------------- Galaba pa gid bungot ko kon makabasa ako mga balita pareho sini..hehehe eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:37 AM from DPI by HH FRESH LUMPIA Photo by Alfe Guieb Racimo http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/551760_424534430911303_412590460_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:39 AM from DPI by HH photo by HH LITSONG MANOK STUFFED WITH TANGLAD http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/547320_424523150912431_761788148_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:40 AM from DPI by HH photo by HH PUSO KA SAGING NGA MAY SINUGBA NGA TIIL KA BABOY http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/197757_424522614245818_1592142832_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:43 AM from DPI by HH photo by HH http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/270808_424158730948873_1687313046_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:44 AM WBC International minimumweight champion http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/428380_375520015842831_976451175_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:46 AM Received the Medal of Honor for actions during the Battle of Bataan http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/600866_375521362509363_62779923_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:47 AM Pura Garcia Villanueva Beauty Queen, Writer, Feminist *The first Filipina beauty queen (1908). * Queen of the Orient http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/251917_372098432851656_1219175316_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:48 AM Kiefer Ravena Athlete *Basketball Player Blue Eagles http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/544846_327551450639688_426310084_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:48 AM Giselle Sanchez Comedienne, TV Personality http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/533129_329270827134417_787013974_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:49 AM Quintin Salas Revolutionary Leader *Revolutionary leader in Panay during the American Occupation http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/558492_342591042469062_1832596414_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 05:50 AM Efrain B. Iloilo will host Global Pack 2012, an international packaging conference and trade exposition on July 22-28. Lara noted that it was right for the Central Philippine University (CPU) to jumpstart the interest among Iloilo’s business circle having offered Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering since 2006 and setting up the Philippine Center for Packaging Engineering and Technology. However, Lara admitted there is no packaging industry in Iloilo. The mouth-watering smell of food filled the nostrils of those who were going to a medium-sized nipa hut where the celebration was going on. The music and the sounds grew stronger as they approached it— and the people, wilder. Everyone clapped and stomped to the rhythm of the music; everyone sang and raised their voices following the lead of the older ones. Red, yellow and white overpowered the other colors in the costumes of the young and old present in the event. Antique coins served as jewelry adorning their bodies—tinkling as their bodies swayed to the rhythm of the music. Laughter filled their eyes as different stories of the past travelled around the room. The children listening intently to the Grandpas and Grandmas were in awe as excitement engulfed their young bodies. This is only one of the countless celebrations of their undying culture and traditions. The neighbourhood gathered and retold the different stories of the past through dance, music, and endless tales. This is one of the moments wherein Mr. Frederico Caballero, an elder of the Panay-Bukidnon tribe, is able to see and evaluate the learned individuals through their different performances. He would be able to see the fruits of his labor in teaching his treasured art to the new generation through the School for Living Traditions. A major jumpstart The School for Living Traditions (SLT) or the Balay Turun-an (Centra Panay School for Living Traditions), started 10 years ago in year 2000 in Barangay Garangan, Calinog after Mr. Caballero was awarded as “Gawad-Manlilikha ng Bayan” (GAMABA) of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in that same year. The establishment of the SLT had been made possible through the help of the NCAA, the University of the Philippines in the Visayas-Center for West Visayan Studies, National Commission on Indigenous People, and the municipal governments of Calinog, Iloilo and Tapaz, Capiz. In order to maintain the pre-cultural education that they give to the people, Mr. Caballero receives monthly allowance from the NCAA that came with his award. It is the way of NCAA to encourage indigenous people such as Mr. Caballero to teach and inculcate their culture to the young and willing ones through the different incentives that they give. Not only that the SLT is a way to learn about our ancestors and their ways, it is also a means to teach honesty and a meaningful way of life to the people. Join the rhythm Dancing had always been a part of the Philippine culture. We have different dances such as the “Tinikling”, “Karatong” and the Philippine national dance “Cariñosa” that we have learned from our ancestors and from the different nations that occupied the Philippines. The Panay Bukidnons, on the other hand, have their own version of a cultural dance called the “Binanog”, taken from the famous Filipino pastime — cock-fighting. Through the SLT, the art of dancing is continued by teaching it to the younger generation. “Binanog” has two versions. One is taken from the scene of a cock courting a hen to be his mate. In this dance, the male dancer is trying his best not to be captured or “indi dapat masi-od” by the female dancer with her bandana and at the same time is dancing with her in a rhythmic, circular motion as a way of courting her. When the time comes that the male dancer is already under the female dancer’s bandana, it means that the male has been defeated in his pursuit for love. The other version tells about the actual cock-fighting scene wherein two male dancers are dancing as if they are fighting. Both versions of the dances follow the rhythm of the musical instruments being played and the chanting and howling of the people, especially the elders, around. Anyone can actually learn the dance “Binanog”. In the village, even kids as young as five years old, know how to dance properly. That is why, whenever that there is a special occasion, the people hold a contest on who dances the “Binanog” best. Nights and Tales History is an art for the Panay Bukidnons. One way of transferring history to the different generations is through the oral traditions. In the School for Living Traditions, these oral traditions are still being practiced and transferred. It is actually the main purpose why the SLT was established — the transferring and teaching of the oral traditions to the younger ones so that our beloved culture will not fade away just like that. Every Saturday, Mr. Caballero himself together with his brothers, teach these oral traditions to the willing ones that come. These oral traditions are commonly known to the Panay Bukidnons as the “Sugidanon”. “Sugidanon” is an epic story about the gods and goddesses, heroes and the supernatural that used to rule the world. It is composed of 3,500 pages and 10 epics or “Humadapnon”. Using the ancient “Karay-a” tongue (which has deep words that are not anymore used in the modern “Karay-a”), the story is being chanted by the storyteller. The “Sugidanon” is said to be a very long story of a hero’s journey in the supernatural world that it would take three nights for it to be finished. Mr. Caballero is the living proof himself since he has memorized and understood all the tales. The “Sugidanon” may take in many forms. It may be used as an “ambahan”— a way to praise or insult a friend through a song, an “ulawhay”— may be used in courting, or a “duruyanon”—which is another way of insulting a friend. These are only some of the examples of the many forms of “Sugidanon”. Get to the Beat Music for the Panay Bukidnons is incomplete without their precious musical instruments. In the School for Living Traditions, these instruments are still being kept and are used mainly during special occasions. One of their most treasured instruments is the “agong” or gong that was in the Caballero family’s possession. Way back in the 18th century, another instrument is the “tambol” or drum made of deerskin that is 10 years old. Remaking history would never be perfect without the native instruments such as “subing”, “tulali”, and “sugangang” used by the Panay Bukidnons in the past. Most of the time, the elders play these instruments since they were the ones who were experienced in using it. They use different beats that their ancestors taught them. Cut to measure Aside from teaching the musical and oral traditions of the Panay Bukidnon, the SLT is also a place wherein one can learn about the ethnic costumes of the tribe. Headed by Mr. Caballero’s wife, the making of these costumes doesn’t require any technical abilities besides from learning how to sew. Using only good proportion skills, these costumes are made without measuring any kind of cloth. They would simply sew the shirts, pants, blouses and skirts directly and ornately adorn it with different embroideries such as flowers and zigzagging lines. As narrated earlier, red, yellow, and white are the most dominant colors found in these costumes. Amazingly, these costumes would perfectly fit the person who requested for it. The ethnic attire will never be complete without the jewelleries made of old coins and beads. Aside from being an additional embellishment to the costumes, it also serves a purpose with its tinkling sound when the dances begin. The Panay-Bukidnon culture will continue to live as long as the School for Living Traditions is still around and the succeeding generations are involved. It will serve and continue to be a living tradition that should be treasured and loved more than wealth and power. Culture will never die. Not until we stop dancing, singing, retelling stories and clapping our hands and stomping our feet to the rhythm and the beat. This shows only, why this island of panay became cradle of civilization as manifested by aboriginal people such Ati and this indigenous remaining malay ancestry as manifested by sulod/bukidnon people, thus only uplift why panay is center of culture for ilonggo race.:) eonynx June 16th, 2012, 02:50 PM from DPI by HH photo from Soo Pinoy CRISPY PATA http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/285611_420781031286643_1903413572_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 02:51 PM from DPI by HH PJ Tinapayan, Atrium Mall. http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/182837_390869044283939_324927110_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 02:53 PM a live mang inasal wearing adidas! from DPI by HH photo by M Temporosa http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/527075_303636269729110_582169159_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 02:54 PM from DPI by HH photo0 by Saru "( Ga baligya ma ko ka sinamak ) - Negosyo dya ni Saru" http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/535789_357392207660956_1825049443_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 02:57 PM from DPI by HH photo by JD Lozada http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/600207_444966695523237_1960422584_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 02:58 PM ohhh....sweet! from DPI by HH Photo from Pinas Dekada 80 Cotton Candy http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/223891_420277388003674_349911624_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 03:00 PM from DPI by HH PLASTIC BALLOON Photo from Pinas Dekada 80 http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/389728_420274391337307_1801245110_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 03:02 PM from DPI by HH RICE WINE FROM POTOTAN, ILOILO Photo by P M Guanco http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/s720x720/484242_420274158003997_530668159_n.jpg yikarei June 16th, 2012, 03:02 PM a live mang inasal wearing adidas! from DPI by HH photo by M Temporosa http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/527075_303636269729110_582169159_n.jpg Chicken Run! eonynx June 16th, 2012, 03:03 PM from DPI by HH WHITE RABBIT from Pinas Dekada 80 http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/196163_420273708004042_520772961_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 03:05 PM from DPI by HH photo by B Gerona ILO http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/s720x720/534065_401713353200064_1328698775_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 03:07 PM from DPI by HH photo by HH An area around Robi Iloilo http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/599131_420184571346289_315104341_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 03:08 PM from DPI by HH SANDBAR, CONCEPCION, ILOILO Photo by Frances Pauline from Choose Philippines http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/535749_420180644680015_486448577_n.jpg eonynx June 16th, 2012, 03:09 PM this is a big and large flag. from DPI by HH photo by KD STA. Lazarito of the Iloilo Tour Guides Cooperative said. He said that in one month, he could tour at least six buses full of tourists. He noted that currently, there are 14 of them serving as active professional tour guides in Iloilo. “There’s a great volume of tourist arrivals in Iloilo City,” he said. Lazarito added that they can provide a tour package because tourists are not familiar with what places to visit when they reach a certain place. The Jaro Archdiocese is one of the oldest dioceses in the country. It serves as a seat of Roman Catholicism in Western Visayas. The Jaro Cathedral is unique not only because it is the only church in the country with a belfry that is separated from the main structure but it also plays host to mostly male saints. The image of the Our Lady of Candles mounted in a terrace before the cathedrals’ façade was the only Marian icon in the Philippines that was canonically crowned by Blessed Pope John Paul II and was recently declared as a National Shrine. In contrast, the Molo Church is being referred to as the “women’s church” as it houses 16 near life-sized images of female saints. It is believed that national hero Jose P. Rizal dropped by the church on his way to Dapitan. Various heritage buildings and ancestral houses are scattered in several districts of Iloilo: a manifestation of the many affluent Ilonggo families during the Spanish period. Some landed and powerful families in Negros Occidental traced their roots from this city, particularly in Jaro district. Further, Iloilo City takes pride of being the gastronomic capital of Western Visayas, with each of the city’s seven districts having their own specialized delicacy, the most famous of which are the batchoy in Lapaz district, molo soup from Molo district and the Bischocho from Jaro district. Meantime, Lazarito hopes that with the boom in the tourism industry, the city government could act fast on the proposed amendment on the Perimeter Boundary Ordinance that prevents the entry of big buses in the city’s downtown area. The downtown area, also known as the Central Business District (CBD), takes pride of its heritage buildings which are currently being restored. Lazarito said that while the city is ready in terms of accommodation facilities due to sufficient hotels and pension houses, it is yet to act on the proposal that would make downtown Iloilo friendly to tourists. Currently, tour operators are lobbying before the Sangguniang Panlungsod that buses with a measurement of 10.5 to 11 meters long be allowed entry. But according to Lazarito, the council is not keen on giving in to their proposal as the counter offer is only 10.2 meters or similar to mini-buses. Lazarito said that if the city so decides with the 10.2 meters, then they would be asking for a moratorium to allow enough time for operators to produce such mode of transportation. Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa, on the other hand, said that they would try to come up with a win-win solution such that they could properly respond to the need of the tourism industry without disregarding the interest of other sectors. Espinosa admitted that there are apprehensions as regard the length of buses because it would also mean appropriate infrastructure to accommodate the facility. “We asked Councilor Nielex Tupas to study further the repercussions, identifying destination areas,” he said. Meanwhile, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog assured that he will sit down with members of the city council to discuss the issue. Earlier, the mayor announced that the city is ready for tourists following the successful tour that was held for delegates of the Philippines International River Summit here recently. The delegates were offered a city tour by the cooperative visiting churches, heritage buildings and houses in Molo and Jaro districts, River esplanade and the Iloilo City Wetland and Bird Sanctuary. On the other hand, Iloilo will be more accessible to tourists with the slated opening of international flights to Hong Kong and Singapore from the Iloilo airport of international standard sometime on the third quarter of this year A direct domestic flight from General Santos City is currently available and soon from Puerto Prinsesa City once the international flights kick off.
