for everyone

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/566/dsc00266ft7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

The first time I saw this sign, I was itching to go inside and try one of their products! Since I am a big fan of Cinnamon, ever since I tasted it as a kid. So finally, after months of waiting, I got the chance to go inside and try one of their cinnamons! And my oh my!!! The taste is totally heavenly!!! Yum! Yum!

I only wish we were not in a hurry for an appointment, since my hubby wanted to eat it with coffee, as they also offer beverages and other food products aside from the cinnamons. We however had to "take out" our order.
http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/2902/dsc00868fc9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

This store opens at 10am and closes at 8pm. But the good news is the owners are thinking of converting this to a cafe soon, so they will be open a bit longer, am hoping till 12 midnight at least, so my hubby and I can go there after doing our chores at home, which is around 9pm.

If you have tasted the Cinnabon before, this product to my opinion is almost like eating one of the cinnamons from Cinnabon, or I dare say? ..... much better.

They have 3 stores as of the moment, find this along F. Torres, Ilustre and the one I went to is near the intersection for Ecoland terminal.

This is due to my excitement, I just had to take a couple more pictures.

The menu on their selections of available cinnamon flavors.

I recommend you try the classic. Though all of it taste good so far.

Well...if you are a fond of cinnamon that is. Hehehehe!!!!

They also have different variety of chocolate cakes, I ordered one, but so far for my taste, their cinnamon taste more heavenly than the chocolate cake I ordered.

And this is me, ordering as much as I could of their cinnamons!

One more thing, if you want your cinnamons hot and just out of the oven, go there at around 2 or 3pm.

City to host Mindanao, BIMP-Eaga ICT confabs
By Grace L. Plata

THE City Council passed a resolution Tuesday supporting the 1st BIMP-Eaga Information and Communications Technology Conference and the 6th Mindanao ICT Congress that will be jointly held on October 23 to 24, 2007.

Councilor Teresita Mata-Marañon, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod ICT committee, said the event will further boost Davao City as the premier ICT destination choice and a haven for tourism, real estate and agri-business.

Councilor Pilar Braga, who is part of the ICT Task Force, said supporting the event will put Davao City higher into becoming the IT hub of Mindanao.

The ICT Task Force was created by virtue of Executive Order No. 16 issued by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte last year that is tasked to come up strategies to make the city an IT hub in Mindanao.

Marañon's resolution said that Davao City, as cooperator, will host the gala dinner for the dignitaries and guest of the BIMP-Eaga during the opening of the conference.

Councilor Nilo Abellera, however, was hesitant to support it fearing the city will be financially burdened and might not meet the expectations.

But Councilors Marañon and Braga assured colleagues that the return of the city's investment in the event will prove the expense worth it.

Davao managers also seek for creation of transparency bureau

FILIPINO managers in Davao, like others around the country, are enthusiastic about the idea of establishing a Transparency Information Bureau (TIB), according to the 2007 SWS Business Survey on Corruption.

The SWS Business Survey, the result of which was presented before Davao businessmen on Monday, introduced the TIB concept as "like a Credit Information Bureau, except that, instead of Credit Ratings, it will make Transparency Ratings on the reputation of individuals, companies, and agencies, regarding honesty and ethics in business."

The SWS survey found 74 percent of Davao managers saying that their company would find the services of a TIB useful. The figure is 76 percent for the total of the five areas of the country -- Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, Metro Davao, Cagayan de Oro-Iligan and Cavite-Laguna-Batangas -- that were surveyed.

Furthermore, 80 percent in Davao said that their company would be willing if asked by TIB to give information about other people or companies regarding honesty and ethics in business.

The figure is 82 percent for the five areas.

Eighty-two percent in Davao (also 82 percent in the five areas) said that getting a good Transparency Rating would be valuable for their company, and 88 percent in Davao (87 percent in the five areas) said that getting one would be valuable for their industry.

The idea of establishing a TIB came up in one of the project's focus groups of business people, after which it was decided to test the idea in the next SWS Business Survey.

Other general findings of the 2007 SWS Business Survey are as follows:

1. The scale of public sector corruption remains high. Discouragement on whether government can be run without corruption is up.

2. Seventeen of 29 government agencies have negative ratings on sincerity in fighting corruption. However, compared to 2006, the ratings are nearly all either better or not as bad.

3. Three of every five managers were asked for a bribe during 2006 on at least index transaction. On each index transaction, bribe solicitation was higher than in 2006 or 2005.

4. One out of our said that a typical company in their sector would donate to the 2007 election campaign. The average estimated donation per company was P245,000 in the five areas, and P230,000 in Davao in particular.

5. Only a minority of companies always follow the basic honest business practices of demanding receipts, issuing receipts, keeping only one set of books and paying taxes honestly.

6. Managers' stated capacity to pay into an anti-corruption fund is two percent (median) of Net Income, down from five percent in 2006 -- with the same pattern in Davao. Yet, in the last two years, two out of five spend an average of P292,000 (in Davao, P265,000) to fight fraud or corruption in their own firms, and one out of five donated an average of P136,000 (in Davao, P66,000) to an anti-corruption fund. One out of two say they will spend and donate for these purposes in the next two years.

7. Sixty-one percent see good or excellent business weather over the next two years - up from 46 percent in 2006 and 2005; in Davao the figure is 63 percent in 2007 compared to 42 percent in 2006. One-half are satisfied with the national government, and two-thirds are satisfied with the local government, on their promotion of a good business climate. Among Davao businesspersons, however, 56 percent are satisfied with the national government, and 80 percent are satisfied with the local government.

Survey background

The 2007 SWS Business Survey on Corruption was the seventh in an annual series done in partnership with the Makati Business Club, for the Transparency and Accountable Governance (TAG) project sponsored by The Asia Foundation (TAF) with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAid).

The findings are those of the SWS research team and do not necessarily reflect the views of TAF or USAid.

The 2007 Survey respondents were managers of 705 Filipino companies from Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, Metro Davao, Cagayan de Oro-Oligan, and Cavite-Laguna-Batangas, randomly drawn from public lists and other lists furnished by cooperating business associations in the study areas, and interviewed by SWS field staff from March 4 to May 11.

Two-thirds of the companies are Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) while one-third are large enterprises.

The presentation of the 7th TAG Business Survey on Corruption with emphasis on findings for Davao, was given to a business sector and civil society audience at the Grand Men Seng Hotel, at a forum sponsored by the Mindanao Business Council, Mindnao Commission on Women, Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industries Inc., the Ehem! Technical Working Group, and AdDU Center for Business Research and Extension.

Filinvest To Invest US$15.5 MLN In Mindanao Property Projects

DAVAO CITY, July 17 Asia Pulse - One of the Philippines' top property developers Filinvest Land, Inc. will invest P700 million (US$15.5 million) in three new projects in Davao City and the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS).

On the pipeline are the 15-hectare high-end French-Mediterranean-themed Le Jardin de Villa-Abrille subdivision in barangay (community village) Ma-a; the 15-hectare Ocean Cove and three-hectare Costa Villas both in Dumoy, Talomo; and the 50-hectare first Asian-Balinese themed leisure-residential Kembali Coast in IGACOS.

Filinvest Land, Inc.-Davao branch manager Alan Barquilla said Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) top their takers, followed by out-of-town and Davao City residents.

There are three existing projects in Davao City, including the country-themed flagship project Orange Grove in Matina Pangi. The others are the Southern-California-inspired Fuente de Villa Abrille in Tulip Drive, Matina, and the resort community Villa Mercedita in Dumoy, Toril.

The Fuente de Villa Abrille and Villa Mercedita projects are sold out while the Orange Grove project obtained 90 per cent sales, Barquilla said.

Barquilla said the company's market in Mindanao is growing, strengthening current expansion plans in the cities of General Santos, Butuan, and Koronadal.

Development of the Spanish-Mediterranean-themed Villa San Ignacio in Zamboanga City and Filinvest Homes in Tagum are also ongoing, he added.

Barquilla said they are targeting the middle market because of the strong market among OFWs.

Feature: PWD center rises from ruins
by Prix D Banzon

Davao City (19 July) -- With only a wheelchair left after the clinic was razed to the ground on June 13, 2006, the Kaakbay Rehabilitation Center (KRC) is again servicing persons needing therapy and relief.

KRC director Michael Belilla in an interview said after ten days after the fire incident with all their equipment were burned, some kind-hearted donors put their clinic back to serve some 65 clients both children and adult.

He said one donor Marissa Enriquez, a physical therapist endorsed to the center some of her spare facilities while the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD XI) provided them some P115,000 fund assistance to support their operation.

The KRC is among the agencies that showcased their services in the 12th Kakayahan Fair '07 at the Entertainment Plaza of SM City Davao.

Belilla said the KRC is support by youth therapists that started with five members and now has increased to 20.

He said the center undertakes occupational therapy services to persons with cases on Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder, Down Syndrome, Specific Learning Disabilities, Mental Retardation, Sensory Perceptual Impairments, and Development Delays.

For physical therapy these includes persons with neurologic conditions such as stroke, bell's palsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, peripheral nerve injuries, traumatic brain injuries.

The musculoskeletal conditions refer to neck pain, low back pain, scoliosis, tendonitis, muscle strain or sprain, frozen shoulder. The orthopedic conditions are hip and knee replacements and factures.

The KRC he said uses different approaches to promote healing such as therapeutic exercise, heat, light, cold and ultrasound.

He said despite the attractive pay abroad, volunteers keep coming to serve the center.

He said that a therapist in the US are paid between $25 to $30 an hour compared here who are only paid with only P300 per session.

"The center is already part of our community service that is why those who are now abroad to practice their profession continue to support the center," he said.

Among those who continue to campaign for fund support and other facilities, are former volunteers now working in the US and Canada like Karl Axalan, Jeffrey John Andrion, Fayeh Rina Tabada, Victor John Rico, Mides Mae Dela Cuesta, Rubilyn Porticos, Rommel Ramos, Efren Pael, Fritz Quiao and Robert Laud.

He said they are now training a batch of volunteers who will assist the current staff manning the center.

The Kakayahan Fair '07 is supported by the Davao City Council for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, Regional Sub-committee for the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities-XI, the Davao City government, other GOs and NGOs.

About 21 organizations joined the fair. It was also in the said fair that the Mindanao Wheelchair Congess 2007 was launched. (PIA XI) [top

Here's a very interesting stat I grabbed from the other thread (thanks to francisxavier (?) for posting this).

Let's check what's behind these macroeconomic figures:

Davao's growth is one that is characterized by a SUSTAINED type of economy unlike the bubble growth economies of, e.g. North Mindanao and sokcsargen (imo lang) or the downward spiral economies of Bicol and Mimaropa. I suppose that a year to year figure could give us a better picture as to how the regional economies developed in the last 4 years (note: the two-year average growth scale may be deceiving).

If you have noticed, Davao belongs to the ranks of the more economically stable regions ( i.e. central and western visayas). I'm happy to see that investments (which increase regional production) are going to secondary and lesser relevant regions (e.g. North Mindanao, Socksargen, ARMM). This is good news indeed since people from the neighboring provinces need not go to bigger and well established regions for work (e.g. Cebu Davao and Manila). The uncontrollable influx of migrant workers in the matured economic regions of NCR, Central Visayas and Davao can have a negative impact on the per capita GDP of these areas (we all know that total gross domestic production is divided per head... the more heads you have, the lesser the GDP per capita).

I'll be glad to hear any feedback

Duterte: Live shows okay, so long no minors
By Carlo P. Mallo

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte might reconsider the closure order of the night spot "Hot Legs 2" after its employees presented to him a letter of appeal.

The employees admitted that there could have been a lapse on their part and that they could have gone overboard in the way they enticed customers to visit the bar.

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 Coverage

View here the list of local winners

For his part, Duterte said that nightspots like Hot Legs 2 and similar establishments are not really a problem with him, so long as there are no minors involved.

"If there are no minors, it's not a problem," Duterte said.

However, the mayor reiterated that there are certain standards that are to be followed in a society. He was not quite specific on what these standards are though.

Forty-three dancers, waiters, cooks, guards, and other personnel sent a letter of appeal to the mayor last Tuesday night, asking that the city reconsider its closure order.

"I might reconsider," the mayor said.

Hot Legs 2 was ordered close after it was discovered that the said nightspot had lewd shows and has even allowed women to bathe on stage and its patrons to soap the girls.

The mayor added that if the patrons are people of the appropriate age, then he finds nothing wrong about it.

"More so if they are already in their 60's to 80's, patan-awa pud na sila oi kay hapit na man na sila (let them watch those kind of shows as their time is already approaching)," Duterte said.

I'll be glad to hear any feedback

from what i noticed, it's only zamboanga, mimaropa, bicol and central visayas that surpassed their previous year's growth. davao was nearly flat, but did grow as well.

you probably mean NOT surpassed  correct me if I'm wrong

as i have said earlier, this is typical of a matured and stable regional economy.. because of the strong agri and service industries of davao, the city is most unlikely to feel the pinch of economic contraction (that is, when there are no relevant external investments poured in) ... the economies of manila (NCR) and cebu (Central Vis), both being highly dependent on manufacturing (and services), are much more susceptible to any slowdown in investment (NCR 7.4->6.8; Central Visayas 6->5)...

btw is cebu part of Central Visayas? sorry poor ako sa regional geography eh

The uncontrollable influx of migrant workers in the matured economic regions of NCR, Central Visayas and Davao can have a negative impact on the per capita GDP of these areas (we all know that total gross domestic production is divided per head... the more heads you have, the lesser the GDP per capita).

i agree, if you look at the more important provinces (Central Luzon, Central Visayas and Davao Region), growth isnt as huge as the lesser (but developing regions)

that may be because the level of these areas are already high, that to achieve a high growth rate, growth should be huge

say

100 was increased by 4 so that would be a 4% growth rate, now compare it to 50 and increased by 4, that would be an instant 8% growth rate, now both had the same amount of growth but because mas malaki ang level ng 100 sa 50, mas pansin ang growth nung 50

To me, and I hope this would further strengthen your take on the issue, which as it is, is very strong enough, Davao's agricultural-based economy with a little sprinkling of tourism, services, BPO and real estate, has reached a plateau and over the years has just been producing revenues in a rather stable fashion. The performance graphs per se would less likely register a sudden upward trajectory to indicate growth unless there is a huge (astronomical in proportion of course) investment poured into the same sector.

Mindanao: Gateway to ASEAN
By Joji Ilagan-Bian
Inquirer
Last updated 04:54am (Mla time) 07/19/2007

Considered the second-largest island in the country, Mindanao has finally started getting the attention of travelers.

Mindanao tourist arrivals, particularly those from other countries, have increased over the years despite unfavorable travel advisories issued by western countries, many of which did not even have sound basis.

Last year, total visitor arrival here reached 2.93 million, with 108,062 coming from other countries such as the US, Japan, Korea, Australia and Malaysia. This was 10 percent more than year-ago level.

Mindanao has three international airports -- in the cities of Davao, Zamboanga and General Santos -- although only the first two accommodate direct international flights.

Initiatives

Prime movers of Mindanao development, especially tourism industry players, have come together to promote Mindanao as an international gateway, given its proximity to the rest of the countries in Asia and the Pacific and its accessibility considering its air and sea linkages with those countries.

The Department of Tourism and the airline companies in Davao City, for example, came up with a program that aims to intensify travel between Davao, a haven for business in Mindanao, and the rest of the world.

During the program launch, airline executives announced some proposed flights between the city and certain international destinations.

Similar moves have also been undertaken in other parts of Mindanao. In Zamboanga City, based on the announcement of the Mindanao Economic Development Council in May, Asian Spirit had started servicing three times a week the Zamboanga City-Sandakan, Malaysia route using the Japanese-built Weiss-11 60-seater plane.

There are also attempts to mount direct flights between Zamboanga and Bander Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei Darrusalam.

Fifth-freedom rights

These developments are taking place as the four-country East ASEAN Growth Area started implementing the fifth freedom traffic rights. Leaders of Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines believe that with the implementation of this travel concept, their respective destinations will get a boost from the growing number of Asian and other foreign travelers.

This particular travel mechanism, which Mindanao leaders have been pushing since a decade ago, allows an aircraft to pick passengers and cargoes in any airport within the sub-region aside from its home airport. This enables an airline to sustain operations even in missionary routes.

Many flights in the past did not survive mainly because traffic was not really that active even in primary Mindanao destinations such as Davao, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga and Cotabato.

With the strengthening of cooperation between Mindanao and the rest of the East ASEAN Growth Area, great things are expected to take place in the tourism sector, including more flights between the sub-region and the rest of the world.

There is an attempt to bring in more tourists from China and South Korea. These markets have expressed interests in Mindanao. Last month, the tourism industry players in Davao went to Seoul for the Korean World Travel Mart as part of the Philippine delegation.

Sea linkages

There are also the emerging sea linkages between key Mindanao areas and the rest of the sub-region. One of them is the link between General Santos City and Bitung, Indonesia, which has been vibrant in the last couple of months owing to increasing trade between the Jose Abad Santos-Sarangani-Glan-Cooperation Triangle, and Bitung and other nearby ports.

These developments should provide more business and tourism opportunities for Mindanao and make it a viable gateway not only to the ASEAN but also to the rest of the world.

i definitely agree with the move of intensifying the position of davao as haven for tourists in mindnanao. davao is a name synonymous to tourist destination. it gave mindanao a lighter side of face despite security problem. if davao is peaceful, people outside would feel better of the island(dont curse me thats how i see and feel:D) even if there are pockets of strife elsewhere. back to topic>> i meant davao has better tourism infrasructures and products that have been institutionalised. its tourism industry maturity is at a higher level comparable to its asean counterparts whilst other areas has yet to develop a product that will draw travellers to drop and spend longer time to enjoy. if only mindanao image has without issues of secutrity, tourism industry would have gone far. very far:D

To me, and I hope this would further strengthen your take on the issue, which as it is, is very strong enough, Davao's agricultural-based economy with a little sprinkling of tourism, services, BPO and real estate, has reached a plateau and over the years has just been producing revenues in a rather stable fashion. The performance graphs per se would less likely register a sudden upward trajectory to indicate growth unless there is a huge (astronomical in proportion of course) investment poured into the same sector.
dont knock yourself bro, your insight is enlightening

I'll be glad to hear any feedback
brillant analyss and waways too (justmy point of view as ssc entusiast).

Focus on cultural celebration

* by Blogie
* 19 July 2007

The past years’ Kadayawan sa Dabaw celebrations, it’s been thought, have veered away from the authentic spirit of this most important of Davao’s festivals. People have started talking about how ‘commercialized’ the Kadayawan has become over the years. And this probably explains the knee-jerk reaction by this year’s organizers — their unexpected move to change the festival’s schedule.

The city officials responsible for Kadayawan 2007 have reasoned that, since this festival is all about the harvest season, then it should be celebrated during the actual time of harvest, which is early August. This was monumentally unwise. But it’s a good thing that the festival highlights (the Indak-Indak and the floral float parade) were kept on the same period as usual (middle of August).

A very positive development in the 22nd-year celebration is the clear focus on Davao’s “cultural minorities”. If you notice in the Kadayawan schedule, the 2-week-long festivities will feature celebrations by the various traditional tribes that make Davao their home.

This will certainly bring back the soul of the Kadayawan sa Dabaw (”beauty / goodness of Davao”).

Here’s a bit of history. Before Davao celebrated the Kadayawan (accented on the last syllable), the festival was called “Apo Duwaling” — a thanksgiving by Dabawenyos for Mt. Apo, the durian, and the waling-waling; of course the Philippine Eagle was also included, albeit not in the name.

BSP to introduce ERS in Mindanao
http://www.mindanaotimes.com.ph/story.php?id=17424

THE Bankong Sentral ng Pilipinas will launch the final leg of its Electronic Rediscounting System or eRediscounting (ERS) in Mindanao in a formal ceremony on Friday, 20 July 2007, at the Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City. Underscoring the significance of the event and the potential benefits which the new system can offer, Bangko Sentral Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. and Member’s of the Monetary Board will lead the launching ceremony in the presence of bank executives and local business leaders. Under ERS, banks use the internet to file their rediscovering loan applications and other related eRediscounting-transactions. The eRediscounting System was initially launched in Manila last December and early this year in the Visayas and Northern Luzon. Since then, ERS has improved and facilitated access to credit. In addition, banks have been able to realize substantial savings from ERS in terms of lower transaction costs, including transportation and man-hour expenses. This, in turn, is expected to translate into lower interest rates to borrowers.

Davao mall opt to develop IT hub in lieu of convention center

DAVAO CITY, July 18 (PNA) -- The 5,000- square meter fourth level of the NCCC Mall Davao, the only feasible venue to hold conventions in Davao City is now being readied to become a Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA)-accredited Information Technology (IT) Center, according to a Mall executive.

Business Mall Services director Eribero Bariga said they are given one and a half month to comply with all the necessary documents needed for the PEZA accreditation.

He confirmed that in all probability, the mall’s said vast space that could accommodate at least 4,000 people is being readied for call center locators.

If realized, NCCC Mall will be the second PEZA-accredited IT hub next to Damosa IT Park in Lanang, also in Davao City.

Bariga said Sutherland Global Services,Inc., a leading Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company based in America, which is currently in all preparations to locate in Davao City is the mall’s closest prospect with negotiations still ongoing relative to the usage of the space into a call center. The bone of contention however lies on the position of the Mall management to offer the space excluding of development works.

“It is the most practical approach that we gave to Sutherland. We offer the space, and they do all the flexing,” Bariga said even as confirmed that such offer is seemingly unacceptable to Sutherland. Nevertheless negotiations will continue this week, he added.

Although the mall management is likely giving up the space for call centers, they are not totally abandoning plans to put up a convention center.

Bariga said the management is eyeing two prime lots nearby as expansion sites for development, but definitely not within the year.

The 25 percent lower rates compared to other similar establishments remains NCCC Mall’s edge, Bariga said. (PNA)

Asian Tigers opens office here
By Joy Romares-Sevilla

THE Asian Tigers Lane Moving and Storage, a multinational company known for international moving and relocation in the Philippines and around the globe, opened its office in Ma-a, Davao City on Wednesday.

"We want to provide high quality and innovative services here and we want to let the company grow," said Gerald Lane, Asian Tigers president.

Lane revealed that Davao office is their third in the country with its main office located in Metro Manila.

"We started the business in Manila in 1977. We already expanded in Cebu in 2003 and now in Mindanao. We are inspired to expand here because Mindanao is known to have rich resources," Lane said.

The Asian Tigers Lane Moving and Storage provides specialized services in household moving, storage, records management, logistics, and a full range of relocation management services.

Lane said the company is a guarantor and co-owner of the Overseas Moving Network International (Omni), having met the necessary criteria for quality service standards and financial stability.

Omni is a global network of the world's most professional independent overseas moving companies operating across 70 different countries, dedicated to producing quality service to the corporate market.

The Asian Tigers has an unrivalled level of experience and expertise in packing, storing and moving backed by 1,500 full-time professional staff.

Lane said with the opening of its office in Davao, the company can give jobs to 50 to 75 people over the next coming years.

Meanwhile, the countries where Asian Tigers operates include South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Laos, HongKong, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Philippines.

Funds for bridge construction already in place: DPWH official
By Carlo P. Mallo

AS proof that the construction of the new Governor Generoso Bridge I is top priority of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Bashir Rasuman was in Davao City Wednesday to ensure that everything is within the allotted timetable.

But the construction of the bridge has yet to start.

"Being a primary chokepoint in the city, the Generoso Bridge I will have to be built in the fastest way," Rasuman said.

He added that construction of a new 170 meters-long bridge will cost about P200 to P250 million.

Rasuman said funds needed for the construction of the bridge are already in place.

He said Governor Generoso Bridge I is the only major structure in the region that is on an urgent status.

Although the actual construction of the bridge itself is yet to start, he said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is already working on the bridge.

"We are already procuring the materials needed," Rasuman said.

He added that at the very least, the bridge will be finished by the first quarter of 2008, insisting that "everything is still within the timetable."

Apart from visiting the construction site of the new Governor Generoso Bridge I, Rasuman also visited other DPWH project sites in the city.

He said among the regional offices of DPWH, it is the Southern Mindanao office that has been consistently leading in infrastructure development.

Korean community eager to cooperate
By Rizalene P. Acac Published : 2007-07-19

THE Korean community in the city expressed full cooperation to the move of the city council and other government agencies to track down Korean establishments that are illegally operating here.

Several Korean nationals who are representatives of associations and business establishments attended yesterday’s council hearing of the committee on rules, privileges and ordinances, adding that they are even willing to gather their members to discuss complaints against them. Cho Mee Hai, school director of Phoenix Cultural Exchange Foundation who has been in Davao City for seven years now, said they could also make a report on the complaints and forward it to Korean Embassy.

“We can’t move exactly without the data from the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation (BID) and the Bureau of Custom (BOC). As of now we won’t exactly know how to resolve it,” she said. Park Jong Hark, president of the Korean Association in the city said their present membership today has already reached 3,000.

The data from the BID, however, revealed that there are less than 1,000 Koreans which were given visas. Rolton Norico of the Immigration explained that foreign nationals are not required to process visas if their stay in the country is short period. Councilor Bonifacio Militar has called for the committee hearing in line with his resolution asking BID and BOC to strictly monitor the legitimacy of Korean nationals with business operations in the city.

He also questioned the importation of golf carts and other second hand Korean vehicles or construction equipment from Korea. Militar particularly cited the 40 golf carts which are stocked up in Lanang Golf and country club. He filed the resolution during the 14th council after noting an increase in the number of Koreans who are involved in businesses such as tour agencies; bars; schools and buy and sell.

(PNA)

Davao film wins prizes in Germany, Europe

ANG Huling Balyan Ng Buhi (The Woven Stories of The Other), the first-featured film made in Davao, made waves in film festivals in Germany and France, receiving top awards.

Young Davao-born director Sherad Anthony Sanchez recently won the One Future Prize award at the Munich Film Festival in Germany as well as the Prix Premiere or The First Film Prize Award in the First Film and Sound Competition at the 18th FID (Festival International du Film) or the Marseille Documentary Film Festival in France. Brewed-cast from the top
By Ian Ray C. Garcia

Gone are the days when having coffee meant sipping a hot brew in a downtown bakery or inside a hotel. Coffee drinking was also something that I used to associate with old people who would drink a cup to perk themselves up in the morning, or something that would be offered in funerals and burials. Well, at least that’s how I would remember it then.

Who would have thought that people would now meet up for coffee and do business over a cup? The coffee shop culture has certainly drastically changed the social landscape. While not exactly a coffee connoisseur, many of us now know what the different blends of coffee are, e.g., latte (espresso in steamed milk, topped lightly with foam), mocha (espresso with chocolate syrup and steamed milk, topped with whipped cream), cappuccino (espresso in steamed milk with a deeper cover of foam), macchiato (espresso in steamed milk mixed with vanilla and topped with foam and caramel), and Americano (espresso in water).

No mean feat for someone whose exposure to coffee – which history dates back to the 9th century in the highlands of Ethiopia - was then limited to something geriatric or funereal. Today, having coffee is even more than just taking a nip of your favorite brew. You now consider if a coffee shop serves other flavors and blends and the food that goes well with your cup, as well as if the place is a WI-FI hotspot, and if it is in a convenient or interesting location.

As we all now endure the homogeneity of coffee shops, sometimes the location that makes one a little different from the other.

Take this new discovery we found at the top-most level of the car park building of Gaisano Mall of Davao.

Who would have thought that young entrepreneurs Jommel B., Randy Q. and David G. would set up Brewedcasters Café in a location that is almost hidden yet still succeed? In fact, it’s being “hidden” has made it a favorite of many who would rather not be seen mingling with the maddening crowd.

While it has what most coffee shops offer, its panoramic view of the city’s skyline and the shimmering lights of Shrine Hills by night make it a cut above the rest. Brewedcasters Café – christened as such as it is situated beside an FM radio station and it has become a favorite chill-out place of a number of local radio personalities– serves an assortment of coffee blends (caramel mocha, sinless white chocolate, Durian froccino, etc.) and delectable chows (pizza panini, bake spaghetti, macaroni, cookies, etc.).

If a retreat for a romantic tryst, a private meeting or simply to cap your day after exhausting hours of work, school or shopping to some place quiet and not quiet public is in mind, Brewedcasters Café is just the place for you. Surely, the only thing that that will die are the hours that you would spend time to kill inside this charming cafe.

DA voices support for Davao City's Food Complex
by RG Alama

Davao City (21 July) -- The Department of Agriculture has voiced its support for the review and resolution of the proposed Davao Food Exchange and Terminal Complex in Daliao, Toril, about 18 kilometers away from Davao City proper.

Speaking during the 7th Davao City Business Conference held last Friday (July 20) at the Davao Convention Center. DA Undersecretary Emmanuel Paras said that he supported the resolution of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry in calling for a review and implementation of the project.

"Undoubtedly, this is an enormous project that requires not only huge capital but more importantly sustained with strong involvement of the major stakeholders." Paras said.

The identified stakeholders in the project include the Davao City Government, the Southern Philippines Construction Core Group (SPCCG), the National Develoment Company, the Department of Trade and Industry, Development Bank of the Philippines and the DA.

"Once this undertaking pushes through we at the DA would participate in the provision of technical and if needed be logical assistance." Paras said reiterating the support of his agency.

Chamber presents resolutions in Davao business conference
by RG Alama

Davao City (21 July) -- The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry has presented six resolutions during the 7th Davao City Business Conference held last Friday (July 2009) at the Davao Convention Center.

The resolutions embodies the advocacy of the DCCCI which centers on greening and beautification, tourism, assessment of the zoning ordinance, the Food Terminal complex and the banning of kite and balloon-flying near the airport.

The resolutions are then submitted to the respective offices and departments of the City Government, the City Council, different National government agencies and other groups for appropriate action on their petitions.

The first resolution, calls for a city beautification program to be drafted by the City Planning and Development Office. The plan would sustain a comprehensive beautification program which would tap the private sector that would enhance the City's beauty particularly helping the tourism efforts in the City.

The second resolution urges the tourism groups/ associations in the City to develop a unified strategic plan which would promote Davao City as a tourist destination. Also embodied in the resolution is the call for the strengthening of the Tourism Council as a coordinating body.

The third resolution urges the City Government to push for the re-assessment and review of the zoning ordinance which would take into account the actual and historical usage and possibly consider the concept of multi-zoning in the city's barangays. The resolution says that the reassessment of the zoning ordinance would enhance business opportunities and make the use of land more efficient.

Resolution no. 4 calls for the City government to create or if already existing reinforce regulations or ordinances particularly the 'Davao-A city in bloom program,' for the greening of the city by planting trees and promoting the utilization of living plants inside buildings and houses not only for beautification but also to reduce pollution.

The fifth resolution urges the City Government and the National Government agencies involved to seriously review and implement the proposed P1-billion Food Complex in Daliao, Toril, 18 kilometers from the city proper, which as of now has not yet taken off and is still hanging in limbo.

Resolution no. 6 urges the Sangguniang Panglungsod to amend an earlier City Ordinance which would include banning the flying of kites, balloons and remote-controlled planes, the raising of doves or pigeons within the radius of 5 kilometers from the fence of the Davao International airport and within 12 kms. of the final approach of runways 23 and 05.

The sixth resolution aims to prevent major accidents involving aircraft particularly that kites, balloons, remote-controlled airplanes, doves and pigeons pose a major hazard to approaching civilian and military aircraft. The resolution cites the incident in Lapu-Lapu Cebu in which the cause of a Philippine Air Force chopper crash was traced to a kite. (PIA XI) [top]

Gabi added in World Cup card

DIOSDADO "Prince" Gabi of Davao City has been added to the Boxing World Cup featuring the Philippines vs Mexico in Sacramento on August 11.

Philboxing.com reported that Gabi will enter the ring sporting a new haircut, a hip-hop cut, but definitely with the same speed and power he used in putting to sleep his three previous opponents in the first round.

Gabi, a southpaw dynamo now fighting in the super flyweight division, had an early morning jog with Gerry Peñalosa at the Griffith Park Friday.

Both fighters then hit the mitts with Eric Brown later at the Wild Card Gym of famed trainer Freddie Roach.

Aside from Peñalosa and Gabi, other Filipino boxers fighting in the World Cup are Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista, Bert Batawant, Z. Gorres, Michael Domingo and A.J. Banal.

For Bautista and Peñalosa, it will be a memorable fight since they will be seeking for the world titles here.

Bautista will take on Daniel Ponce de Leon for the latter's super bantamweight title, while Peñalosa slugs it out with Johnny Gonzalez for the WBO bantamweight title. (CRAM)

Butch on 24th Sea Games: 'We must aspire for No. 1'
By Marianne Saberon-Abalayan

DEFENDING champion Team Philippines will send a 560-member delegation whose participation to the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Bangkok, Thailand will cost around P50 million.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William "Butch" Ramirez said this in a brief meeting at the Pizza Hut at SM City Davao Thursday night.

"I've told the joint POC-PSC Task Force SEA Games that we can only send 400 athletes and 160 coaches and officials to the Games. Since we have the burden to defend our crown in Bangkok with a limited budget, then, we need to send only the sports who can deliver," Ramirez said.

He said RP's gold medal chances were cut since the host country removed some events where the Filipinos are good at and added disciplines where the Thais are better.

"It's always the prerogative of the host to choose which sports they will include in the Games. But if you ask me about our chances to defend the crown, we should aspire for that. Otherwise, let's not go to Bangkok at all," Ramirez said.

Ramirez, who tendered his courtesy resignation on June 28, said he still do his job until a replacement comes. The resignation was in compliance to a Malacañang directive asking him and the PSC board members to submit their courtesy resignation.

"I cannot abandon my job without someone to take care of it, what with all the SEA Games preparations and the Olympic training program we are overseeing right now," he said.

Ramirez said the First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, who had been very supportive of the country's sports program, told him to continue the preparations for RP's hunt of a first gold medal in the Beijing Olympics next year.

DA backs city's food complex

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has voiced its support for the review and resolution of the proposed Davao Food Exchange and Terminal Complex in Daliao, Toril, about 18 kilometers away from Davao City proper.

Speaking during the 7th Davao City Business Conference Friday at the Davao Convention Center, DA Undersecretary Emmanuel Paras said his agency supported the resolution of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry in calling for a review and implementation of the project.

Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 Coverage

View here the list of local winners

"Undoubtedly, this is an enormous project that requires not only huge capital but more importantly sustained with strong involvement of the major stakeholders," Paras said.

The identified stakeholders in the project include the Davao City Government, the Southern Philippines Construction Core Group (SPCCG), the National Development Company, the Department of Trade and Industry, Development Bank of the Philippines and the DA.

"Once this undertaking pushes through we at the DA would participate in the provision of technical and if needed be logical assistance," Paras said.

The proposed Food Complex is the site of the old 24-hectare Davao Ramie Textile (Daratex) complex owned by the National Development Company and was used to produce ramie textile until the mid 1960s.

The planned Food Complex will be an agricultural economic processing zone spurring livelihood and economic opportunities.

"We therefore rally behind and fully support your group for reviving this project that would further solidify Davao as the agribusiness capital of the Philippines," Paras said.

The Food Complex is part of the priority projects of the National Government for Mindanao super-region under the Supra-Region development plan and the "8 by 08" agenda, which aims for sustained economic growth through investments in economic infrastructure of the respective mega-regions.

A Hidden Gem

http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/5710/leononxn7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
By Bob on Jul 21, 2007 in Feature, Travel

Leon at ON FarmA long time friend of mine, Leon, is visiting Davao for a couple of weeks. Leon is from Australia, and although we never met in person until last weekend, we have been friends through the Internet for 12 or 13 years now. Leon is visiting Davao for two reasons - he is having some dental work done here, and also wanted to meet Feyma and I face to face at last. It’s been enjoyable getting to know Leon better. Yesterday, Leon had a free day, no dentist appointment, so I wanted to take him somewhere outside the City to give him a taste of Provincial life in the area. We decided to head up to the Marilog District of Davao, and on to Buda, on the border between Davao and Bukidnon.

About 6 weeks ago, I met a fellow named Oded, he is an Israeli who lives in Davao - in the Marilog District. Oded is involved in Agriculture, primarily working with irrigation systems. He assists people all over the Philippines with greenhouses and irrigation, and his efforts have been quite successful. Oded had shown me some photos of his work, and also of the resulting crops that have come from his projects, and I was impressed. Oded and his wife, Norma have a farm in Marilog, and I wanted to visit them. Since I was going to bring Leon up that way, I decided it was a perfect opportunity to combine the two and for Leon, Feyma and I to visit Oded and see what he has going on at “ON Farm” as it is called.

As we drove up into the Marilog District, I called Oded on the cell phone and he agreed to wait for us alongside the road so that we could find the place. Sure enough, there was a white guy standing along the road, and we all said “That must be Oded!” Ha ha… well, it was, so we pulled over and talked with him a while. He asked us if we wanted to walk to the farm with him, as it was not accessible by car, you had to walk about 15 minutes to get to the house. “Why not,” we said, and Oded assured us that when we saw the place we would not be disappointed about having made the walk.

http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/4547/onfarm1tw6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
The pathway at ON Farm is manicured

The walk was quite an adventure! We started out heading up a muddy path from the road up a hill. Soon we reached an area where steps were carved out of the dirt, and headed up the hill. When we reached the top of the hill, we entered the gate to the property where the farm was. Oded told us that going up the mud hill was the easy part of the walk, and that coming back to the car was going to be the challenge! Soon, we learned why. We approached a concrete path that lead down into a deep ravine where the farm house was. Although the path was concrete, it was wet and sometimes you would Mushrooms at ON Farmhit some really slick spots on the trail. I even took a fall one time, but luckily was not seriously injured. Even walking downhill, your breath was taken away, because it was a challenging walk. I will say, though, the beauty of the place took your worries about the tough walk right away. This place was indeed a hidden gem! Oded and Norma have 15 Hectares there, much of it planted with bananas, which they grow commercially. But, whatever is not planted in bananas is ornately manicured landscaping! It was unbelievable. Feyma, Leon and I all agreed that they had spent much more money landscaping the place than the cost of the land itself, and even including the cost of building the house.

I don’t know how many varieties of trees and plants they have at ON Farm, but it must be thousands. Flowers of every color adorn the walk to the house. Trees of all varieties too, basically any kind of fruit tree you can imagine is there, plus things that aren’t so usual like eucalyptus trees and others. They had tropical raspberries growing there, guava, pomelo, mango, jackfruit, breadfruit and anything else you can imagine. We were in awe of the place.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/6231/feymaonflowersum0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Feyma in the flowers at ON Farm

When we finally got down to the house we looked around the yard at even more beautiful vegetation, including some gorgeous orchids growing there too. After a while we sat down for a cup of coffee, and some other treats. Oded pulled out some guava jelly that they had made from their own fruit and it was also wonderful. We had a nice conversation with Oded and Norma, and got to know them a little better, and actually ended up staying much longer than intended, although we really didn’t want to leave even then!

The hike back up the trail to get to the car was indeed challenging, especially for me, as I am a big guy. But, it was well worth the hard work just seeing the place. Oded and Norma invited us to come back again and even stay with them for a few days (Norma actually said “stay as long as you like!”), and I can say for sure that we’ll be back again. How can anybody turn down the chance to relax in a true “garden of eden” like they have there at the ON Farm?

Funny thing is, I have passed by this place many times, but I never had any idea that it was there, as it is a little off the highway. All I can say is that ON Farm is like heaven on earth! Thanks so much for your hospitality, Oded and Norma!

Basti’s Brew

* by Blogie

(For the life of me… my favorite coffee shop and I haven’t even blogged about it yet this whole time! Oh I’ve mentioned it here and there, but I realized just now that I hadn’t given Basti’s Brew its own post here. Shame on me!)

Basti’s Brew Coffee Station has a role in the history of wifi in Davao. It was the first coffee shop that offered wireless Internet connection in the city via Globe Innove — this was back in 2004, if I remember right. For a year the Internet connectivity was offered for free, and so it was Basti’s that “educated” the Dabawenyo to mix coffee and laptops. Then Globe started charging for Internet access (P100/hour!!), and people started going to a new coffee shop that was already offering free wifi. Eventually, Basti’s got its own provider and started broadcasting its wifi signal for free. By then, nearly all coffee shops had installed their own wifi routers to entice Dabawenyos into their establishments. Today, it’s de rigeur in Davao City for coffee shops (and even other kinds of establishments) to have free wifi.

this is good new mga goys 30% of the total P 32.4 billion ..let me see....ahhh hehe teej how much is it?

PIA Press Release
2007/07/21

Mindanao to get 30% of proposed P32.4 budget of DA

by Prix D Banzon

Davao City (21 July) -- Mindanao was given assurance that 30 percent of the proposed P32.4 billion budget of the Department of Agriculture will be allocated to the island to fund major ticket projects.

DA undersecretary Jesus Emmanuel M. Paras told participants of the 7th Davao City Business Conference about the move of the department where projects on farm to market roads, irrigation and post harvest facilities are already in the pipeline to support linkage of producers to the domestic and international market.

The 7th DCBC had chosen agriculture concern as the center of its agenda as most stakeholders raised in earlier consultation issues affecting agricultural production and marketing.

Paras said allocation of the P32 billion are as follows: P10.5 billion for irrigation, P4.9 billion for post harvest facilities and storage, P993 million for credit facilitation, P10.6 billion, technology and extension, P3.2 billion, market access and P2.06 billion for other support services.

Paras meanwhile said that of the identified 2 million idle lands to be converted into new farm lands, 53,269 hectares are in Mindanao. These are areas already identified down to the barangay level, he said.

About 1,000 kilometers of farm to market roads will be in Mindanao including the rehabilitation of some 8,000 hectares of land.

He said 445 units of post harvest facilities and storage will be set up in Mindanao.

Although Paras said that some of projects are already ongoing it will run until 2010 even as he said that most of the foreign assisted projects are focused in Mindanao.

Paras said these projects are within the government's five pillars to sustain and attain greater profitability in agriculture.

He also said that the programs are in line with President Arroyo's priority programs to embark higher public spending on repair and rehabilitation of irrigation systems, continuous conduct of research and development, technology and extension services, establishment of more postharvest and storage facilities, provision of accessible and affordable rural credit and insurance and linking producers directly with domestic and global markets.

The DCBC is initiated by the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. with the theme "Synergy in Cooperation: Promoting Coordination between the Business Sector and the Government". (PIA XI) [top]

Ilagan takes oath as Gabriela rep

THE first Dabawenya to sit as party-list representative in Congress took her oath of office Saturday with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as inducting officer.

Professor Luzviminda Ilagan, national chair of the Gabriela Women's Party, won a congressional seat in the recent may elections, thus the Datu Bago Awarded-educator is off to nation's capital.

In her speech, Ilagan said the victory is not hers but of the women's movement.

"It is only appropriate that I take my oath in Davao as Gabriela was endorsed by the mayor for the elections," Ilagan said. "I pledge to continue to fight for what is right, just, and fair for the cause of women."

She said her seat in Congress would place Davao once again in the political landscape.

"It is fitting because people in Davao are fearless workers much like the mayor. Being tri-people has served us very well and I assure you that you will see the Gabriela deserves its seat in the House of Representatives," Ilagan said.

Duterte, for his part, wished Ilagan good luck with some words of caution and advice in between.

"I was once a member of Congress and did not enjoy it. The endless talks and junkets would make you see that it works to protect the interest of the elite. There you will truly realize the non-equitability of the society. But for those who are dedicated, even in these tumultuous times and age of bankruptcy of the spirit and values, they will be able to contribute to nation building even as a minute representation in the hundreds," Duterte said.

"I hope you (Ilagan) will continue to fight for the poor Filipino people who truly need help," Duterte added.

Duterte also assured present militant leaders that as long as he is mayor, there would be no single political killing in the city.

The short ceremony was ended with a poem written and read by Palanca awardee, Professor Don Pagusara -- one of Ilagan's former colleagues in Ateneo de Davao University.

Pagusara said the poem, which was in Cebuano, is meant for Ilagan to bring with her in Congress as a reminder of purpose and values. (GLP)

Nograles's daughter now practices in US

THE eldest daughter of House Majority Leader Prospero Nograles and Bebet Bendigo-Nograles recently got her license to practice medicine in New York City.

Dra. Kristine Nograles was allowed to practice at the Rockefeller University Hospital with an official faculty title as "instructor of clinical investigation."

Dra. Nograles finished her degree at the University of the Philippines' College of Medicine where she graduated cum laude.

She also took up molecular biology in UP Diliman. She finished her elementary at Ateneo de Davao and her high school at the Philippine Science High School in Diliman. (BOT)

probably the same reason as anyone else.

Firm offers storing, managing data service
By Joy Romares-Sevilla

THE president of a multinational company, the Asian Tigers Lane Moving and Storage, which has opened its office in Davao City last week, also offers services on storing and managing paper and electronic business records.

Gerard Lane, owner and president of the Asian Tigers, said they will introduce Lane Archive Technologies, which offers customer services such as the Carton Level Management, File Level Management, and EDP Bank Vault Storage.

"Asian Tigers is the mother company of the Lane Archive Technologies," Lane told Sun.Star Davao, adding the technology came into existence a few years after the Asian Tigers started its operation.

Lane said Asian Tigers company grew bigger that they could no longer manage their huge file, thus the decision of putting up another separate company that is designed to store and manage files.

Lane Archive Technologies has two data storage services which are identified as the Carton Level Management and the File Level Management.

The Carton Level Management is a data storage where inactive papers files and documents are placed in a file storage cartons and stored on steel racks inside Lane Archive's large and secure warehouse facilities.

Once bar coded, retrieval by carton is immediate.

The File Level Management, on the other hand, is a storage wherein individual files within a carton can be retrieved.

In this case, the carton and every file or folder inside will be bar coded. Management service at a file level may be facilitated.

Meanwhile, Lane Archive also offers the EDP Bank Vault services. Its purpose-built storage bank vaults have reinforced walls, steel ceilings and Molster vault doors. The bank vaults are fully air-conditioned, dehumidified, and arer ideal for storing, back up media such as disks, tapes, films, cd-roms, and EDP accessories.

Lane Archive Technologies' warehouse is situated in Ma-a, Davao City where the Asian Tigers Lane Moving office is also located.

This is a photo of the back of SM City Davao. Davao City has many areas that are underdeveloped still, like this large field of pasture land behind SM. Actually, in this grassy area, you can often see motorcyclists on dirt bikes practicing here. There are large dirt mounds where they can jump their bikes and such. It’s often a good show, and you will see a lot of people pull up, park and watch the show!

PCCI asks Davao Chamber to rejoin
Written by Walter I. Balane/MindaNews
Sunday, 22 July 2007 21 30 05

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/21 July) -- The new leadership of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry has recently asked the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry to rejoin the Manila-based national business group, an official of the chamber said.
Sebastian Angliongto, DCCCII lifetime chair, said in an interview with MindaNews Thursday new PCCI president Samuel Lim asked the chamber to return to PCCI after its disaffiliation last year over a misunderstanding on organizational issues in PCCI Mindanao.

Davao's business chamber bolted PCCI in October last year in protest over the latter's alleged unilateral decision to reduce the number of Mindanao's regional chambers.

The move also prompted PCCI Vice President for Mindanao and Mindanao Business Council chair Romeo Serra and all PCCI governors in Mindanao to resign en masse.

Lim, who replaced Donald Dee, was in town in time for the city's Small and Medium Enterprise Development Week at NCCC Mall on Monday.

Angliongto said the problem that triggered the chamber's disaffiliation was basically a "misunderstanding of personalities."

There are now new leaders of the business organizations that involved in a tussle last year. Livestock businessman Vicente Lao replaced Romeo Serra as MinBC chair this month, after the latter resigned due to health reasons.

Lawyer Bienvenido Cariaga was also succeeded by another lawyer, Philippine Airlines vice president Domingo Duerme.

Angliongto told MindaNews Lim has agreed with chamber officials to work for a possible reentry to the PCCI.

He said Lim asked the chamber to draft a proposal on how to reorganize the chamber regions under PCCI Mindanao, which was the reason behind the rift, and submit it to the PCCI national leadership.

He said the chamber pressed it as a requisite to reentry, but admitted that at this time their status is still ‘disaffiliated.’

He cited that among the possible proposals would be the revival of separate chamber regions for the Davao and Cotabato areas.

Under Dee, the chambers were fused into one and new officials were elected.

Angliongto said with the new PCCI leadership he is optimistic the chamber's board will vote to join again once its proposed organizational structure is mutually agreed upon. (Walter I. Balane/MindaNews)

Tourism dep’t to give T'nalak fest international exposure
http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/gen/2007/07/23/bus/tourism.dep.t.to.give.t.nalak.fest.international.exposure.html

Last year, Durano said the Tourism department pushed Kadayawan in international tourism fairs that resulted to increase foreign visitor arrivals in Davao City. Since March this year, he noted there have been three flights a week from South Korea and Hong Kong straight to Davao.

Durano claimed that at least 500 foreign visitors come every week to Davao City, Mindanao's premier economic hub, due to the massive international promotions of the agency. "They came to Davao because of the casinos and golfing," the secretary said.

^^ This landmark by Architect Arnel Villacampa is inspired by the 400-year old architectural designs of Yuan Garden in Shanghai, China. The columns will be designed similar as the bamboo, a traditional construction material of the Chinese. The archway is embellished with fish and pearl, the symbols of the Villa-Abrille Family whose ancestry originated from Amoy, China, now Xiamen.

It’s often a good show, and you will see a lot of people pull up, park and watch the show!

can some expand on any development from the sabungan towards to times beach and the environs? from what i can see is there's still room for development. or maybe we can probably do an experiment ourselves. see what we can do with it.

1st they have to find another route or try to expand it because the place is horrible when people starts going home from work or school in the evenings. But they city needs more parks and other recreational centers than urban highrises. It is very much surrounded by residential areas.
