http://www.robinsonsland.com/stockholdersar2006.php
RLC’s vertical and horizontal residential development properties accounted for 31% of total revenues.
The Residential Buildings Division recorded realized gross revenues of PhP1.565 B this fiscal year, a 104% increase from last year. The growth is due to higher revenues recognized from the progress completion of its projects – the Bloomfields Quezon City, One and Two Adriatico Place, Fifth Avenue Place, and One Gateway Place. Pre-selling activities in the division’s other projects, Gateway garden Ridge and Gateway Garden Heights, McKinley Par Residences, Three Adriatico Place, including the two projects launched in the fiscal year, East of Galleria and Otis 888 Residences, are brisk with 72% of the company’s total launched inventory already pre-sold. To date, the division has a total of about PhP9 B of unrealized sales and reservations to be realized mostly in the next 4 years, as construction of these projects progress. The robust office rentals and higher realized condominium revenues boosted the combined Office and Residential Buildings Divisions’ EBIT to PhP603 M for the fiscal year ended September 30, an increase of 194% over last year.
The Housing and Land Development Division’s realized revenues grew by 9% to PhP488 M. The impressive result was due to the strong uptake and higher level of completion of existing projects like Robinsons Vineyard, Hillsborough Pointe, Forest Parkhomes, San Lorenzo Homes, and Residenza Milano. The division’s newly launched residential projects, Bloomfields Tagaytay and Rosewood Parkhomes, have been well received by the market and is expected to contribute to realized gross revenues in the near future. Bloomfields Davao has been experiencing rapid sales take-up and was the highest single producer in FY2006. With such performance, we are inclined to open more projects in Davao. We have currently 15 ongoing projects and approximately PhP900 M in unrealized revenues and reservations to be realized in the next three years, as construction of these projects progress. The division’s EBIT rose to PhP196 M, a 25% improvement from last year.

Davao bet grabs Magsaysay award
By Grace L. Plata
A REPRESENTATIVE from Davao Region has won the President Ramon Magsaysay Outstanding Filipino Worker Award (PRMOFW) for 2007.
Robert Ceriales Tesoro of Tagum Water District is this year's regional awardee in the award's Wage-Employed category, which qualified him to represent the region in the national level. Tesoro also won the national competition.
Tesoro was awarded the distinction in a ceremony held in Metro Manila in August, which was graced by the son of late President Ramon Magsaysay and former senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr. who gave the inspirational talk.
The search is one of the most prestigious awards given by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), with its roots stemming from the Laang Bisig Award started by the defunct National Manpower and Youth Council (NMYC) in 1976.
The award is aimed at recognizing the graduates of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) who have overcome the despondence of unemployment and achieved success in their chosen field and enjoyed the dignity that comes from productive labor.
It also aims to give recognition to the Filipino Blue Collar Worker who has attained skills excellence and contributed to the economic growth of the country.
The search is conducted annually starting from the provincial, regional, and national levels for self-employed and wage-employed categories.

RP airports to get scanners for new passport
The Bureau of Immigration will install infrared scanners in the country's international airports for the new machine-readable passports being issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs, DZMM reported.
The installation of the machines is also in line with the government's campaign against global terrorism, the BI added.
BI Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said the 27 machines were donated by the Australian government as part of a joint project on the modernization of border control and management.
The BI chief said the machines will initially be installed at the immigration counters of the Ninoy Aquino international Airport in Parañaque, Mactan International Airport in Cebu, Diosadado Macapagal International Airport in Pampanga, Davao International Airport in Davao City and Zamboanga International Airport in Zamboanga City.
Other machines will be set aside for installation later at other international airports under construction, Libanan added.
The Australian government's donation and the installation of the machines came amid reports that foreigners have been going in and out of the Philippines using machine-readable passports, which the BI has failed to scan and record until now.
The DFA began issuing machine-readable passports on August 18 in compliance with an international convention and following a court battle.
Most countries around the world are already using machine-readable passports in compliance with standards agreed to by contracting states of the International Civil Aviation Organization, which includes the Philippines.
The new, maroon-colored Philippine passport replaces the green one, which features scripted or handwritten entries that are vulnerable to tampering and also wear and tear.
The new passport has security features designed against falsification. Features include lamination bearing holograms and special printing that are visible only under a high-tech decoding lens. The new passport also features thicker binding fiber for added security.
The green passport, meanwhile, will still be issued by the DFA to first-time applicants until October.
The new maroon passport will be issued to all applicants -- whether first-timers or those renewing -- starting Monday, said Domingo Lucenario, DFA's assistant secretary for consular affairs.
“We are still in the transition period,” he said.
Lucenario clarified that the green passport will continue to be honored around at international ports of entry until their expiration. With a report from Glenn Carlos

due to what the National Transmission Corporation (Transco) called a "technical glitch."
Blackout hits Mindanao
Mindanao Bureau
Last updated 05:42pm (Mla time) 09/17/2007
DAVAO CITY, Philippines -- Most of Mindanao was without power Monday due to what the National Transmission Corporation (Transco) called a "technical glitch."
The power outage affected the cities of Davao, Mati, Tagum, Panabo, Cotabato, Malaybalay, Kidapawan, Tacurong and General Santos, and the provinces of Maguindanao, South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Bukidnon, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley.
Power was restored in some of the cities and provinces as of 3 p.m., nearly seven hours after the outage started at 8:17 a.m.
Milfrance Capulong, corporate communications officer of Transco, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer, parent company of INQUIRER.net, by phone that "there is a technical problem” in the Agus 2 transmission line in Kibawe in Bukidnon.
Capulong said Transco technical people earlier made "four attempts to restore power" but failed.
But Belinda Canlas, public information officer of Transco in Southwestern Mindanao, told the Inquirer the interruption was not caused by "our transmission lines."
"Our Systems Operations Group based in Iligan has attempted thrice to restore power today; however, power went off a few minutes thereafter each time," Canlas said in an SMS message to the Inquirer.
In Davao City, the Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) used its standby generators to provide power to hospitals.
Some areas near the DLPC generators have power. But at the NCCC shopping mall, management was forced to close as its power generators conked out because of the power fluctuations.
Power was also "on and off" in General Santos City.
Reports from Dennis Jay Santos, Edwin O. Fernandez, Grace Albasin and Aquiles Z. Zonio, Inquirer Mindanao

To have an update and due to my very busy work (coz my graphics partner is in the US, enjoying the beauty of hotters girls bah!), so I think I need to post anything now.
Wait, I notice there are numerous comments in my Shark Attack post, people really love reading and viewing about sharks. Might I as well change my theme in this blog to talk about SHARKS! What do you think?
*I think it’s not ok, since we don’t have sharks here in our country to talk about, and also it’s so tiring to read and search about ‘em on the internet*
Blah! Blah! Blah!
I’ll be in Davao this October. Actually, it is still not final. I still have to court my team in Manila and I hope they will allow me to take a leave.
I’ll undergo medical checkup, ah nothing to worry though, monthly or quarterly medical checkup is a must for your health. I mean, yeah, I want to see my doctor and complain about my constant headache.
Still nothing to worry. God is good.
Next, Pboz will be joining the Corel World event for the Art Exhibit and etc together with Kenneth Ong, Cubepixels a.k.a. the victim of the crime and others, four of them will be showcasing their works using Corel softwares. As far as I know, Pboz will be using Corel Painter and others are Corel Draw and I am invited to be there. That’s it. I am inviting everyone in Davao, to come and join the event this October 5-6.
*this invitation post was brought to you by….*
Fellowship night follows on the October 6 after the program and Cubepixels will shell out money for us. *you know what I mean*
See you there guys! It’s been 2 years after we joined the Corel World.

Korean seeks audience; mayor says he's busy
By Carlo P. Mallo
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said he was busy and had no time to talk to Koreans concerning the deportation of one of their own who violated the Anti-Smoking Law in Apo Hotel sometime last week.
"The manager insists that we talk... wala pa ko'y panahon (I don't have time), I'm too busy," Duterte said in Sunday's television program "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa".
Join forum on Sandiganbayan's guilty verdict on Estrada plunder case. Post comments here.
Updates on the Kadayawan Festival 2007
The mayor, however, assured that the Korean will be given due process but it will be the Anti-Smoking Task Force that will handle the case.
"They will be given the opportunity to be heard," Duterte said, adding that he will not act hastily on the matter.
He reiterated that the cause of his anger was when the casino management refused to allow inspectors of the city's task force to check the casino because it was exclusively for Koreans. The inspection was done to verify allegations that smoking is allowed inside the facility.
Duterte further said it seems that casino operators have sequestered the facility and made it a part of Korea so they are not anymore bound by laws governing the city and the Philippines.
"It's just a matter of following the laws," Duterte said.
The mayor already got in touch with the manager of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) to ask why they allowed a foreign national to operate a casino in the city.
"He kept on apologizing but he did not give any answers," Duterte said.
Duterte added that the laws would have to be equally implemented here in the city as the Constitution provides equal protection of the law.

GearX September 18th, 2007, 03:28 AM Major power outages hit Davao, General Santos and Cagayan de Oro
DAVAO CITY — Intermittent power outages starting at 8:30 a.m. yesterday hit southern Mindanao including the cities of Davao and General Santos. Power had not been restored until late yesterday afternoon.
Milfrance Capulong, corporate communications officer of the National Transmission Corp. (Transco) Southern Mindanao Area, said the power interruption was caused by a technical problem at the Agus-Kibawe transmission line.
Ms. Capulong said even Cagayan de Oro City was affected by the power problem. Earlier, text messages circulating here noted the outage, the worst the city has experienced in years, was due to an attack on Transco’s transmission line. But Ms. Capulong denied there was such an attack.
In previous years, Transco’s facilities mostly in the Lanao provinces, have been hit by bombings traced to lawless elements. This despite orders from the President for the military and the police to secure vital power installations in Mindanao.
As of 2:30 p.m. on Monday, most of southern Mindanao suffered power disruptions four times, angering businessmen and residents who expressed fears that office and household appliances could suffer defects due to the brown-outs.
In the Central Mindanao area, the first brownout started past 8 a.m. Electricity returned around 10 a.m. and was cut again minutes later. Power supply was then restored past 11 a.m. but cut off again after a few minutes. Power resumed again past 1 p.m. but was interrupted at around 2:30 p.m.
Company statement
According to a statement received from Transco yesterday, the first tripping of the Agus 2 line at 8:19 a.m. cut off power from General Santos City, Tacurong, Davao and the other parts of Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao and Cotabato.
This was followed by trippings at 8:55 a.m., 10:41 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 12:31 in the afternoon. Transco said power was restored immediately after each of the trippings.
Emmanuel D. Abellanosa, assistant vice-president for Transco’s Mindanao operations, said Transco is still investigating the "unusual yet repetitive" trippings, but is monitoring the performance of two substations that supply the 138-kilovolt Agus 2-Kibawe transmission line.
Transco personnel are also on foot patrol along the grid’s lines, he added.
Mr. Abellanosa said Transco has tapped the Philippine Air Force for aerial patrol and sought the cooperation of local government units.
Power was already running along Transco lines at 1:15 p.m., which meant that the blackouts occurring after this time were already caused by distribution utilities, according to the statement.
This developed as the Mindanao Business Council urged the National Government to fast-track the construction of the $42-million Abaga-Kirahon-Maramag-Bunawan transmission system which will bring power from the northern part of Mindanao to its southern part.
"[Power] is very important [in business]," said Vicente Lao, chairman of the business council, adding that the system should be operated on as soon as possible to reduce the possibility of power outages.
Aside from this, business leaders here have also been pushing for the setting up of more power plants in the southern area as the Davao Region is one of the biggest consumers of power. — Mindanao Bureau with a report from Maria Kristina C. Conti

Clothing
Lightweight summer clothing is sufficient. Jackets may be used for slightly more formal occasions. A light suit would be appropriate for business. Clothes for men and women is much like the West. Wear naturalfibre, lightweight clothing. You'll feel more comfortable. Bring shorts, hat sunglasses, bathing suit, insect repellent, flashlight, sun block cream, tough shoes for walking, rubber slippers for the beach. Pack tissue paper in your purse as public toilets almost never have any.

The Café Mediterranean of Davao
By Michael Ebro Dakudao
Goodness, but the restaurant boom is at an all-time rise in Davao City. Last week, I brought my childhood friend and a known foodie from Manila, Roberto Ongpin Valdes, who was visiting Davao to attend an SGV affair, to the Yap’s still relatively new food establishment called the Café Mediterranean along Gov. Sales Street. I’ve been hearing a lot of wonderful things about the new and so well-lighted cafe from my brother and friends that I decided to give it a try.
It was not an easy decision to make as I always bring my visitors to my favorite restaurants which I am assured will offer me consistency of taste, quality and best of all, friendly service. But I have brought Robin to all these establishments for the past years that he has been visiting me. I thought we both deserved something new. Besides, it has rather been a long time since I have been craving for Vancouver’s Greek restaurants’ moussaka, chicken souvlaki, roast lamb, calamari, to mention a few of the mouth-watering dishes I long for.
Then it was definitely the Café Mediterranean dining experience Robin and I were headed for that night. Known to its loyal patrons in Manila as the home of kebabs, gyros, hummus and pizzas, Café Med Davao’s franchise-owner Cindy Yap promises to extend the excellent international service standards Café Med is renowned for in her very own hometown. While adhering to “very strict standards,” guests enjoy a casual yet refined dining experience, in the midst of a traditional, cozy, Grecian taverna interior, catering to the most discriminating palettes, at such surprisingly reasonable prices at that. What sets the Café Mediterranean menu apart is its authenticity and variety. While adhering to the healthy Mediterranean diet of nutritious and the freshest of ingredients, the menu covers the best cuisines collected from the vast Mediterranean, the Middle East, Northern Africa, Italy, France and Spain.
The well-loved kebabs alone generate such a tremendous demand that new items have been added to the colorful menu: the Mixed Grilled Kebab Platter
(a mix of chicken, beef, pork and kofta kebabs, serves 4) and the Kebab Pizza (choice of grilled chicken, beef or lamb kebab meat on a pizza served European style). Another brand new addition, which is quite the rave in Manila, is the Gyro Pizza (your favorite Greek sandwich - shwarma meat - served pizza style).
Rather than merely expanding the menu, Cindy Yap’s direction is towards refining the much-loved offerings, and simply giving the customer more of what they enjoy the most. Foodies simply say, “The true test is in the eating.” Well, the Café Mediterranean inspires a new take on the saying: “Longevity and legacy speaks years of trust and taste.” Celebrating 12 years of success and a string of six successful branches in Manila: Greenbelt 1, Rockwell, Alabang, The Podium, Robinson’s Galleria, the Mall of Asia, and a branch in Boracay, Café Med finally takes its signature culinary techniques to Davao, celebrating the island’s vibrant energy and culinary culture with brand new offerings inspired by eastern winds and sultry ocean flavors.
The Café Med’s keen sense of taste offers Davaoenos a culinary experience designed to capture the romance of flavors of true Mediterranean cuisine. True to the essence of middle eastern cuisine, the secret, I strongly believe, is not only in the sauces (Café Med’s signature garlic and hot sauce duo) but in the passionate enjoyment of life, captured with every bite, glorious sips of Coke light, and the resultant conviviality of a table shared by childhood friends reminiscing about the good old days.
With Café Med doing good business in Davao, well, I don’t have to wait to go to Vancouver for my fill of roast lamb, moussaka and souvlakia from now on.

Hanoi Vietnamese Cuisine
We were not supposed to eat out for lunch but since my mother and sister's flight from Cebu was delayed, our family decided to check out Damosa Gateway. Lo and behold! Hanoi opened a branch just last September 8!
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/761/img0181ym9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I love Hanoi's interiors. Spanking new and absolutely chic!
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/8982/img0175zh9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I wasn't able to take a lot of photos since I get stressed out when my father is hungry. Don't get me wrong, I love my father and he is a good man, but his tolerance level for hunger is rock-bottom. He requested rice to be served first and started to eat it without anything on the side!
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/6962/img0166tz6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Which reminds me of our trip to China. Our family is aware of Papa's talent so we informed our guides to let us eat on time lest our father turn into a monster. We used the word "monster" figuratively and we think they interpreted it literally! The guides were so scared too see the monster and they would always check if Papa was still okay. Hahaha
Anyway, we had Cha nuong or Ground Pork Barbeque served with lettuce, basil leaves, and rice paper (P160). I simply love this. This is a SOP whenever we're at Hanoi. If I may be blunt, the ground pork barbeque is simply grilled longanisa - a Longanisa wearing a sheer rice paper cloak and adorned with lettuce and basil leaves transforming itself into royalty! If you're good in the kitchen you can have fun by dipping the rice paper in water and wrapping it yourself, but if you're no domestic god/goddess, then let them do the gift-wrapping-it's free of charge anyway. Hehe!
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/7339/img0167vl9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Cari Ga or Chicken Curry (P200) was tasty but was a bit sweet for me. We usually put potatoes in our chicken curry but this one has camote (sweet potato). As what the local radio station would say-Pwede, pwede, pwedeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Hahaha! Reminded me of Max's Chicken substituting potatoes with camote for their fries. And you know what they always say about camote...it's the musical fruit(prrrrrrt). Hahaha!
http://img490.imageshack.us/img490/6497/img0170ju7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Rao xao thap or mixed vegetables with tofu (P170)was delicious but I wish they added more tofu. More tofu PLEAAAAAAAAAASE!
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/2013/img0171zp4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Pho dac biet or Beef noodles Soup special(P170)tasted good but was warm. Sigh.
http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/5756/img0172ik3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
It was a long wait before food was served considering that we were the only customers inside. Maybe the new kitchen staff was still adjusting.
They also serve crabs and this lone crab is waiting for you!!!
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/2595/img0174hm1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I hated the fact that they had to bring my card outside of the establishment and swipe it else where. For a minute, I wanted to pay in cash but I was thinking of the Mabuhay points I'd be missing. Those valuable points could bring me to Vietnam!!!
But for the meantime, I'd settle for Hanoi.

San Miguel Pure foods introduces Outbox franchisee
Davao City (19 September) -- This city again is the place for a new investment in food business spearheaded by San Miguel Pure Foods as its first franchisee in Mindanao was formally introduced to the market yesterday.
Necel Jean N. Marquez, head of San Miguel Pure Foods retail business cluster in Mindanao said the OutBox made its way first to the food court of Ateneo de Davao University at the Jacinto Campus in Davao City.
"This is the first in Mindanao this year of which nine more will be coming this year, opening in different parts of the island and another set of 10 establishments in 2008," she said.
She said with an investment of P150,000 it carries an inventory of 100 boxes and a supply of collaterals and the cart plus free training of workers in the presence of the operator and continuing monitoring of the operation.
Marquez however stressed that would be franchisee must first come up with the letter of intent and its proposal. She said they need to validate the submitted project and once feasibility that would be the time that it gets approval.
"We need to do actual foot count in the proposed area," she said.
She said normally they target 10 to 15 percent of the actual count as basis for their target sales.
The OutBox in Ateneo is franchised to Daisy C. Adle who according to Marquez is optimistic it could meet return of investment within six months.
Adle said she is hopeful the new business would hit saying they never expected to go beyond their projected number on its third day of operation.
Marquez said people really are looking for new things and because of the changing pace of lifestyle among Dabawenyos the fast food business is really moving.
The OutBox is also present in Dumaguete City in the Visayas and the bulk of its stores in Manila with 30 outlets.
She said their guarantee to their consumers is the freshness of the product as well as safe and clean preparation aside from its "fast and hot meal to go".

davaoeagle September 18th, 2007, 07:20 PM MBC head: Saudi firms eyes Mindanao poultry and pomelo (http://www.mindanaotimes.com.ph/story.php?id=17935)
By Carmelito Q. Francisco Published : 2007-09-18
MINDANAO Business Council chair Vicente Lao said a Saudi Arabian company has expressed its desire of importing Halal chicken from Mindanao.
Lao, who has been into poultry raising and construction, said Sheik Fayez Hamid Zainy of the Abar An-Zainy Co. was in the city last week to discuss with him the possibility of exporting chicken to Saudi Arabia.
The company, he added, is also looking into taking over the pomelo plantation of Menzi Corp. in Mati, Davao Oriental. The plantation is being run by a cooperative after it was subjected to the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.
At present, Lao said, the company has teamed up with another big company for banana production.
In November, he said, Zainy told him that he (Zainy) will bring to the city Saudi Arabian officials who are in charge of looking into the Halal certification of products entering the country.
“So they have three months to study and maybe resolve the issue of Halal,” he said, adding that it is good that the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has already created a Halal certification body.
The advantage, he said, is that the Saudia Arabian company has its vessels which it has used in the banana business.
“Halal certification is a matter of credibility,” Lao said, pointing out that the Saudi Arabian authorities approve the Halal certification body in the autonomous region, it will be easier for products carrying the certification and logo to enter its markets.
Lao has been pushing for the export of poultry products to other countries, particularly Middle East, with the certification from the Halal body in the country. Muslims only eat Halal food, or food that passes through a Halal process.
He even led the attempt of the business sector in the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East Asean Growth Area to form a company for Halal poultry business in an effort to fill the void left by poultry-producing countries, particularly in Asia.
However, the company failed to take off, prompting him to ask a Brunei investor to join him in forming the company, although nothing has much taken place in this plan.
Lately, Lao introduced the virtual poultry farm, which will allow investors to monitor their investments through the Internet. In this plan, he was tapping the overseas Filipino workers to invest in his farm.
Lately, Mr. Lao met with officials of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and some funding agencies where he presented his plan. He said he was waiting still for the approval of these agencies on his business plan.

MBM unfazed by coming competition (http://www.mindanaotimes.com.ph/story.php?id=17929)
Published : 2007-09-18
WITH or without local competition, Maayong Buntag Mindanao is headstrong to be the favorite morning show of Davaoeños.
In yesterday’s presscon, the people behind MBM said they are eagerly waiting for the rival network to materialize its reported plan to have a daily local morning show in Davao.
MBM executive producer and host Michelle Robin-Basal said they welcome the possible head-to-head competition with GMA for the domination in the early morning program in Davao.
The competition, however, poses no threat to them.
Robin-Bascal said the 12-year existence of MBM already proved that their show is well-loved by the public.
"Our show is already complete," Robin-Bascal told reporters who raised the question on the upcoming challenger.
MBM, according to the executive producer, is further strengthening its bond with their televiewers with segments which call for the participation of the common spectators.
Among the segments they recently launched included Sugod Barangay where they visit barangays and let viewers give tips and other relevant ideas to the public. Other segments include health care, market watch, cooking tips, dance instructions, and aerobics. They will also set to launch Action Dayon in which they will focus on and give solutions to common problems in the barangays. A livelihood segment for those interested to have extra earnings is also in the plan.
ABS-CBN Davao manager Trisha Corpuz said she heard the plan of the rival network to put up a morning show since she assumed the top managerial spot in Davao early this year.
"Bring it on," Corpuz said.
Corpuz is very proud that MBM lasts for 12 years. "It's the current longest running morning show," Corpuz said. "It's ahead than the national show."
MBM is presently garnering double digit ratings -- as high as 28.6 percent -- way above national morning programs.
GMA Davao is reported to set up Unang Hirit Davao as counterpart of its morning show, Unang Hirit. The local show is reportedly set to debut after the GMA Davao transfers to its new home in Broadcast Avenue in Shrine Hills soon.

DATE expects to generate more than P106.8-million
By Rose B. Palacio
Davao City (19 September) -- The Davao Trade Expo (DATE) '07 is expected to generate more than last year's sales of P106.8-million, Davao City Chamber of Commerce and industry (DCCCI) trustee and DATE advocacy committee chair Andre Joseph Fournier during a news conference held at PIA audio-visual room Friday.
Together with DTI assistant director Marizon Loreto, Mr. Fournier said that last year, DATE was participated in by 123 companies occupying 113 booths, tents and spaces. This year, DCCCI is expecting to draw no less than 200 exhibitors and anticipates the participation of foreign chambers of commerce and foreign companies.
The 9th DATE '07 is set on October 25-28, 2007 at the NCCC mall Davao convention center, at Matina, Davao City.
DATE '07 provides its exhibitors, advertisers and sponsors many unique opportunities for high impact marketing of products and services to the progressive and emerging markets of Davao City and the rest of Mindanao - the business capital of Southern Philippines and the most important city in the BIMP-EAGA region.
The 4-day event affords sponsors and local exhibitors the breadth and depth of product exposure as the DATE event coincides with the holding of the BIMP-EAGA in Davao City.
This rare opportunity to showcase Davao's best to a wider audience compelled DCCCI to move the DATE's hosting in partnership with the LGU of Davao specifically the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center.
This year's theme: "Invest in Davao-Gateway to BIMP-EAGA" will open opportunities and encourage investments in the region through establishing linkages between local and foreign exhibitors and buyers.
The theme rides on the crest of the BIMP-EAGA conference in the city whose member countries shall join in the exhibits showcasing their own products. (PIA-XI) [top]

GearX September 19th, 2007, 09:27 AM PhilNITS IT business center in Mindanao launched
By Rose B. Palacio
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Assisstant Secretary for Mindanao Engr. Merly Cruz announced the inauguration of PhilNits IT Business Center in Mindanao at the DTI XI, 5th floor Mintrade building, Monteverde-Sales Streets, Davao City.
The formal launching ceremonies of the PhilNits Davao City Office was held yesterday (September 18) at the Grand ballroom of Royal Mandaya hotel, Davao City.
ASEC Cruz said the opening is in partnership with the Philippine National Information Technology Standards (PhilNits) Foundation Inc., and the Japan External Trade Relations Organization (JETRO). The center would serve as an IT-enabling facility for Mindanao's micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (mSMEs) to improve their competitiveness in the global market by providing productivity tools, entrepreneurship program and skills training on new technologies.
The PhilNits Business Center also aims to promote PhilNits certification program in the Mindanao area, help upgrade the quality of education in Mindanao region by adopting internationally-recognized IT standard for its IT professionals; and help generate employment for PhilNits certified professionals in Japanese companies located in the country and Japan.

I think the Sports Complex will take time to construct.
First, litigation over the land where the facility is supposed to be constructed has not terminated yet.
Second, the budget that was supposed to be for the facility was diverted to some other projects instead due to the delay caused by the protracted litigation.

Im not sure if the local tourism office has done this already but if not, I suggest that we make a local package featuring the destinations in the city so that the residents, domestic, and international tourists would be aware of new and existing tourist spots. Maybe we can have " Duaw Dabaw" package or "Laag laag sa Dabaw" which will be sponsored by the local tourism office highlighting new spots such as this.:okay:

tj_brewed September 19th, 2007, 11:00 AM Ganda ng proposed sports complex noh, ito ba yung project pa nuon ni De Guzman or bago na to?
That's a different project...The old project of De Guzman was already on the completion stage but was halted for some reasons....It's located on a hill..same story with the project which u got there in CDO which havent been finished till now as well. I hope that there is something that we can do with such white elephants (both huge projects in ur city and ours which were stopped for certain reasons) :okay:
Anyway, any updates of it Boju?
IMO, what happened with De Guzman's project was good riddance! Basing on the new project, the upcoming one is more sophisticated and well planned.
That's what i like with the projects in Davao....If certain projects wont be pushed through, newer and similar projects will replace the latter - better and more efficient than the older one.
what made me say so? Well, One example was the plan to develop the Sta Ana pier into a Marina Tourism Complex like the one in San Francisco / Fisherman's Wharf. It was designed by Palafox. The plan was scrapped. But now, we have two marina developments being developed in Samal which offers a nicer view of the gulf, more amenities, yacht clubs and here's the bonus - the government of davao didnt spend a single centavo for it!
