is it a harmless crush? kung mao, ok ra na oi. the thing is, if he or she do something para mapalalom ang crush, then that's something else. you can suffocate a partner if you limit what he or she can see. you admire things that is pleasing to your senses especially the eyes. otherwise if you try to shut out all things around you, you are stopping growth.

goys, good evening... local investor lang po ang Central Plaza Hotel. Pinuntahan ko kaninang umaga ang site, tinanong ko ang in-charge doon sabi nya si Lim na may ari ng Central Plaza building in front of G-Mall ang local investor. i asked why nakacover ang rendering, sabi nya hindi pa kasi lumabas ang permit kaya for the meantime naka cover pa, but he said it's a glass building just like landco and pryce. foundation works muna sila ngayon and by january vertical na. so there people, the 12 storey Central Plaza Hotel is now confirmed and going to rise in sta. ana avenue. :) cheers.

edit: inalized ko based on this picture.. see the 2-storey bldg beyond the fenced area i think that's where Villa Abrille is .. ,so there is only 1 entrance and it's in Sta. Ana side .

Robinsons expands to Eastern Visayas, plans more malls outside Metro Manila (http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2007/dec/12/yehey/business/20071212bus13.html)

ROBINSONS Land Corp. (RLC) told the Philippine Stock Exchange on Tuesday that it will expand to Eastern Visayas.

Construction of the two-story Robinsons Mall located in a four-hectare lot along National Highway, Taboan, Marsabaras in Tacloban City, Leyte would start within the next three months and will be finished by the end of next year, the property arm of Gokongwei family-led JG Summit Holdings Inc. said.

The mall would have a gross floor area of 30,000 square meters, and is set to establish a full-service shopping mall that would house Robinsons Department Store, Robinsons Supermarket, Robinsons Appliances, Handyman Do It Best and three cinemas, Cornelio S. Mapa Jr. Robinsons Mall general manager, said.

A three-story call-center building within the complex is also in the pipeline, which is big enough for 700 seats.

Earlier, RLC launched Robinsons Otis in Paco, Manila, which would also have a call-center office space that can accommodate 700 seats on its top three floors.

Besides Tacloban, the company said it would build more malls outside Metro Manila, specifically in Bacolod, Tagaytay, Bulacan, Dumaguete and Davao. Besides the construction of new malls, the property firm said it is also expanding Robinsons Manila and its first mall in Bacolod.

At end-September, RLC’s net income surged 48 percent to P1.82 billion while its earnings before taxes grew 13 percent to P3.03 billion. Gross revenues rose 24 percent to P5.96 billion, 41 percent or P2.46 billion of which came from its mall business, with the 7-percent increase attributable mainly to higher rent and strong rental income from almost all malls.

Revenues from its high-rise buildings jumped 60 percent to P2.3 billion due to its projects in Manila and Fort Bonifacio while recurring lease income rose 73 percent to P411 million. RLC’s housing and land development unit posted 5-percent higher revenues due to the completion of projects while its hotel unit showed a 24-percent increase to P658 million mainly due to Crowne Plaza Hotel.--Likha C. Davao's Perez bags gold in SEA Games
By Charles Raymond A. Maxey

SHEILA Mae Perez of Davao City gave Team Philippines its first diving gold in the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand Wednesday afternoon when she ruled the women's three-meter springboard.

Perez, the charming lass from Tibungco who just turned 22 days ago, amassed a total of 315.75 points after five dives to outclass her Malaysian counterpart Mun Yee Leong, who captured the silver with her 306.36, or 9.39 points behind the winner.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

Perez, an Olympian, highlighted his stunning performance with a 69.60 on her fifth and final dive that all but sealed the victory.

Thanh Tira Hoang of Vietnam bagged the bronze after accumulating 302.28.

Winning SEA Games gold is nothing new to Perez. The Davao diver won three gold medals when the Philippines emerged the overall champion in the 2005 edition of the biennial meet in Manila.

Davao athletes capture silver, bronze in SEA Games
By Marianne Saberon-Abalayan

IT WAS another silver-medal finish for Team Philippines in water polo competition in the 24th Thailand Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

And just like two years ago, athletes from Davao City were part of the squad that placed second to gold medal winner Singapore.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

The Alamara brothers - Frazier and Norton - and Mansuito Pelenio helped power the RP team to a silver medal at the Nakkon Ratchasima Aquatics Centre.

The RP team, then also composed of another Alamara - Ali - also took the silver in the 23rd SEA Games in 2005 at the Trace Aquatics Center in Los Baños, Laguna.

Singapore pocketed the gold while Indonesia settled for silver.

The RP squad was also composed of Allan Payawal, Sherwin dela Paz, Almax Laurel, Danny dela Torre, Johnny Uba, Ernesto Pabalan, Michael Jorolan, Teodoro Cañete, Dale Evangelista and Tani Gomez.

The RP team defeated Malaysia (14-6), Singapore (7-3), Indonesia (20-9) and Vietnam (13-5) in earlier matches before forcing a 10-10 standoff with Thailand Tuesday.

Other Davao City athletes captured bronze for Team Philippines.

Over at the Mab Prachan Reservoir in Pattaya City, the Philippines won the bronze in traditional boat race 10 crews 1000m women's event with a time of 4:22.92.

Indonesia topped the event for the gold with 4:22.36 while Thailand clinched the silver with a 4:22.66 mark.

Athletes from Davao, Amina Anuddin, Ruditha Poralan and Sanita Kasim also banner the team. They trio were joined by Alejandra Orola, Marietta Alba, Maridel Manaban, Mary Neth Bechayda, Ma. Aileen Padronas, Joy Ann Nero, Stephenie Deriada, Ma. Theresa Realizan, Ivory Ablig and Leonita Banlat.

We recently had some visitors from Japan who came to see us and enjoy the bounty of Davao. One day we took them out to Paradise Island, a resort on Samal Island. While sitting under the cool shade trees, we enjoyed quite a feast! You can see only part of it here.

DCCCII urges foreign states to exclude Davao in travel advisories
By Joy Romares-Sevilla
Sunstar Davao

A TOP official of Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCII) said Wednesday the chamber has passed a resolution urging Japan, Australia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the members of the European Union to indicate in their travel advisories issued against Mindanao that Davao City is not included in the advisories.

"In the resolution, we are asking the foreign governments to clarify that Davao City is not included in their (negative) travel advisories. We have better tourism facilities in Davao," lawyer Domingo Duerme, DCCCII president, said in Wednesday's edition of the Club 888 press forum.

Based on the resolution, DCCCII said: "Davao City is one of the most peaceful cities in the country. It was voted most livable, and business and child-friendly city. It is also host to several thousand foreigners, who live peacefully with (Dabawenyos)."

"We were not able to get the exact figures as to how much was lost because of these (negative) travel advisories. Without those advisories, we might have doubled or tripled the number of visitors who come to Davao. Ang mga Japanese at Americans kasi medyo masunurin sa mga travel advisories," Duerme said.

Duerme added that whenever acts of terrorism occurred elsewhere in Mindanao, foreign states issue travel advisories to their citizens prohibiting them from traveling to Mindanao.

"Such travel advisories do not indicate the fact that the City of Davao is not included. Davao City should not be considered a trouble spot," he said.

Duerme concluded that copies of the resolution was furnished to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Tourism (DOT), the Mindanao Economic and Development Council (Medco), the Davao City Council and other concerned government agencies.

Davao chamber to join dev't forum in Nanning
By Joy Romares-Sevilla
Sunstar Davao

THE Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) announced thatit would embark on another trade mission to Nanning, China before the year ends.

Lawyer Domingo Duerme, DCCCII president, said this, adding that the chamber will participate in Nanning Municipal People's Government for a Forum on Cooperation and Development between chambers of commerce in Nanning and Asean cities, and the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Nanning Chamber of Commerce.

"The board and lodging are free. The invitation was relayed to the chamber by the City Government of Davao through the City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC)," Duerme said Wednesday.

Duerme said the forum aims to explore and build new platform, mechanism and channel for cooperation between participating chambers, and to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the chambers of commerce.

Duerme said meantime the trade mission to Nanning, China would be the fourth this year.

The first trade mission was in Beijing, China where DCCCII participated in the Food and Wine Exhibit.

Duerme added that DCCCII also went to Bangkok, Thailand wherein the chamber was able to explore possible markets in the agriculture industry, particularly on fruit and food processing.

DCCCI participated the International Fruit and Vegetable Trade Fair in Shenzhen, China on November 10 to 12.

The organizer of the event, the SFT Trade Show Management in China, is looking for cooperation in the Philippines to expand good relationship in exporting and importing, Duerme ended.

Kuya Jech, I will not say that it's ok because I know that it's not ok. Ihilak ra na. If you feel like crying, then do. If you feel like talking it out to someone, then do. Nobody said it will be easy. Pero once the pain is over and you look back, makatawa nalang ka. Mawawala din yan, in time. Ok? :)

Sensational sashimi
Posted by Blogie on 13 Dec '07 in Recipe

Early this year, I had a gastronomic experience that made me say, ‘I could die now!’ But I’m not gonna die just yet… so it means I’m in trouble. See, from now on, I don’t think I could ever have sashimi again… unless it’s Class A tuna.

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/1269/magurosashimizz9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

At a Japanese acquaintance’s home, I was served Class A kihada maguro (yellow-fin tuna) — this is what is exported to Japan and sold for loads of moolah per kilo. It’s the kind of sashimi-grade tuna that’s sweet and oh-so-fresh it feels like angels caressing your palate.

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/6154/magurosushigunkanmakict8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/6154/magurosushigunkanmakict8.f2ef64ea14.jpg (http://g.imageshack.us/g.php?h=527&i=magurosushigunkanmakict8.jpg)

My sometime client, Nakamura-san, he prepared tuna belly sashimi and tuna senaka (back) sashimi — the latter is wa-a-ay better (but I gorged myself on the former just as much). Dipped in shoyu and lightly powdered with fresh wasabi… to die for! And I’m talking about wasabi daikon that’s still in its vegetable form — Nakamura-san just grated the horse radish, and voila! the real thing. This was my first time to have honmono no wasabi, and I tell you, it’s worlds apart from the packaged stuff. For us, it’s just like the difference between using gata that’s freshly-extracted from coconuts, and instant gata. Another Japanese, Yano-san, had me try the daikon leaf off of the vegetable, and it was wonderful! The taste was so unlike anything I’ve ever had before. Very refreshing in the mouth.

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/3046/magurotakosashimiou9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

The place was simple, not at all ostentatious, but the cooking was fantastic! The sashimi tasted so subtly and yet slightly sweet it boggled the mind. (Now I understood why my friend, Azuhata-san, burst into tears when he tasted this kind of sashimi here in Davao, after being away from Japan so long.) The sushi as well was sugoi oishii!! Yano-san had brought sushi rice from Japan, and OMG!, the way Nakamura-san cooked it? no need to dip the sushi in Kikkoman at all. And for contrast, we had tako (octopus) sashimi as well — very smooth and soft. I guess it had been stripped of its tough outer membrane, just like how my pop prepares kinilaw na pusit.

That was just for appetizers. Main course was kamameshi and — Yano-san’s idea — green papaya tenpura bacon maki, or: flash-fried young papaya in batter and wrapped in bacon. I didn’t think it would fly, but it did with flying colors!! And the kamameshi, also using sushi rice, it was just heavenly.

Then we had more of the sushi maki. It’s called gunkan maki, topped with mashed avocado (and mixed with something that Nakamura-san just won’t share with me). Sprinkled with wasabi and dipped oh-so-slightly in shoyu… you’d forget your name! The Japanese guys loved it. But when Nakamura-san served the sushi maki topped with sliced avocado, I got to like that better. The nori’s taste, mixing with the subtle avocado flavor, and the tinge of soy sauce, and all of those brought together by the soft, chewy sushi rice… it was ecstasy!

Just how am I supposed to enjoy local Japanese fare now??

[This is a repost (with some editing) from Blogie Blog. I’m eventually going to transfer some of my better and food-related posts from my other blogs to this one.]

Fagio Malt... Coffee at its best!
By MARILYN C. ROQUE

The intoxicating and irresistible aroma of coffee greeted us the moment we stepped into the FAGIOLI COFFEE CLUB. No, you are not in General Santos City. It’s a newly opened branch introduced to Davaoeños by two lovely young matrons from Gensan who know that a meal is never complete without that cup of coffee. And even more relaxing is having conversation after a day’s work or meeting, sitting around this coffee shop with the pastries especially made to go with the FAGIO MALT. Incidentally FAGIOLI is Italian for coffee beans.

Present at the inauguration last Saturday, December 8, were Davao City Mayor Duterte, Ed Bangayan, Councilor Tomas Monteverde, DOT Regional Director Sonja Garcia and sister Josie Ang with husband Bobbie. Also there to grace the occasion were Maita Montemayor-Ang with husband Edgar. We spotted Marissa Te Eng Fo moving around greeting friends. We were also introduced to Mr. and Mrs. Antonio Ruby Ang who came for the opening.

What caught our attention was a platter of fresh jackfruit laid at the counter. If you haven’t heard why this is part of opening day “must haves” you’ll have to find out from Christine Rebosura who owns the FAGIOLI COFFEE CLUB.

Manager Joyce Rebosura, is Christine’s sister-in-law. Vic and Raul Rebosura are the males who gave their wholehearted support in the construction and interior design of the coffee shop, but gave the ladies the privilege of running the business.

The late afternoon cocktails was made more enjoyable when Mayor Duterte sang for the guests his favorite song “Ikaw”. It was one of those rare moments when we felt the mayor was feeling romantic! Maybe it was really the intoxicating aroma of the latest brew in town!

Probably. The fact that the firm posted it as one of their upcoming projects means na meron talaga. But we have yet to see if this will be a tall building, right?

theres also a FEBTC (fareast bank and trust co.?) building in Iligan among others
tapos may PCDP bank din (na BDO na ngayon)

so baka kasali na ang mga completed projects? or the list includes completed (design stage) but unbuilt projects..
since wala nang FEBTC ngayon diba?

Animation school to be set up here
By Joy Romares-Sevilla

A TOP official of a Manila-based company Wednesday said they are looking for an area in Davao City where they can establish an animation school in two months time.

Rhizaldy Reblora, president of the Another Level Consultancy Inc., said the animation school will be known as the Creative Vision Development Center, which will be set up in support for the animation studio that will also be established in the city in the first quarter of 2008.

"Our production center will be set up here in Davao, but our editing group will be in Manila. Davao will be the production site," Reblora said, adding that he sees a lot of potential Dabawenyos who will stand out in terms of animation.

"We are also planning to put up an animation movie that will completely showcase the cultural side of the Filipinos and promote the local destinations of the Philippines," he said.

Reblora claimed his company really wants to expand its operation in Davao, thus the establishment of a school and a studio.

Reblora, on the other hand, said he already visited a site for the construction of the school that is accessible to the people, but failed to divulge as to where the site is located.

Creative Vision Development Center will use the same equipment and technologies the foreign countries are using in making animation films.

"Instead of sending people in the US to study animation, we're going to do it here, we will use the same technology other countries use, what makes us different from them is that we are more creative, Dabawenyos are creative people," Andrei Fournier, member of the Board of Trustees of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) who also supports Reblora's undertaking, said.

On the other hand, Reblora encourages parents to entice their children to take up any technology course because it offers big opportunity in the future.

"The country is already technology-driven, today, it's all about software that controls everything, there's a big opportunity and big potential that's why we are expanding operation in Davao," Reblora said.

40 US-based property developers to
invest in RP’s tourism-linked projects

By Roger Garcia
Properties Editor

U.S.-based leisure- and entertainment-property developers have renewed their interest in developing world-class resorts and retirement havens in the country as they declared the readiness of the Philippines and its enormous potential to become a major participant in the ever-growing global tourism business.

In a roundtable discussion with the BusinessMirror editorial and research team, Leon Katz, CEO of Global Investments and Capital Corp., the business matching arm of the Asian International Real Estate Expo and Conference (Aireec), together with other foreign conference leaders, the group revealed that about 40 US developers, most of whom are owners of marquee brands in the global tourism sector which cater to “high net-worth clients” in Asia, Europe, the United States and the Middle East are set to visit and inspect potential tourism destinations in Central and Southern Philippines.

Topping the list are properties located in Cebu, Boracay, Palawan and some parts of Mindanao that include Davao and Cagayan de Oro.

The group is scheduled to arrive “as early as February next year,” said Aireec spokesman Romeo J. Pajarillo.

“This development came in the heels of the recent holding of the Aireec 2007 in Manila last week,” Pajarillo said. “The event [Aireec] has created and has built up serious interest among world-class developers and marketers.”

Anthony Macaluso, a leading realtor in the United States, together with Susan Barlin, the Philippines’ special envoy for investment and tourism promotions and lead organizer of this year’s convention and expo, told the BusinessMirror that leisure and tourism development will definitely set the pace for the Philippines joining the global contest to capture the ever-increasing number of retirees and so-called baby boomers.

Macaluso said these developers are now preparing for the millions of US “baby boomers,” including retiring Fil-Americans who would like to retire in tropical countries such as Panama, other South American countries and the Philippines, in particular.

Macaluso said the Philippines is the “best-kept secret” in the area of tourism and leisure business. Proper infrastructure and world-class development combined with its natural and human resource will definitely give its Asian neighbors a run for their money,” Macaluso stressed.

“As this happens, the Philippines should venture into nation-branding and should increase further its efforts in global marketing as well,” he said.

“Its a double-bladed approach as this [marketing and promotions], coupled with the nation-branding efforts, will not only attract tourists and visitors, but will likewise encourage leading world-class developers to invest in the Philippines’ tourism-development projects,” he said.

Pajarillo, meanwhile, announced that a large foreign developer and an owner of a Philippine island are completing negotiations to develop the local property into a resort.

The letter of intent was delivered on December 13 by the potential buyer to the island owner to indicate that it was serious with its offer.

The developer indicated that it would spend some $120 million to develop a vacation resort.

^^ weeeeeeeeeeeeee....so hindi lang pala locals ang interested!

Perez: Davao's wonder girl
By Marianne Saberon-Abalayan

WHEN Sheila Mae Perez showcased a virtuoso performance in winning the 3-meter springboard in the 24th Thailand Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) Tuesday, it capped a successful comeback from a bothersome back injury that the wonder girl from Davao City endured last year.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

With another foray of graceful and amazing dives, Perez is a gold medal winner in the biennial meet once more.

And she isn't about to stop.

After ruling the 3-meter springboard, Perez is gunning for another gold when the 1-meter springboard gets underway Thursday night at the Nakkon Ratchasima Aquatics Centre.

A triple-gold medalist in the 2005 SEAG in Manila, the 22-year-old Perez attempts to come up with another impressive showing and display her exceptional skills this time around in Thailand.

Just months ago, Perez never thought of flashing the skills she displayed in Manila two years ago because of a nagging back injury.

Perez had to undergo rehabilitation on her back for two months this year after missing the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar last year.

In fact, Perez, who hails from Sasa but whose family now resides in Tibungco, was anxious about defending her titles in Thailand.

In one of her daily training routines at the Trace Aquatics Center in Los Ba¤os, Laguna, early this year, Perez suffered an accident that further jeopardized her already strained back.

The Davao diver, however, recovered from the injury and flashed another mighty performance in the regional meet.

Perez, a Sydney Olympian, amassed a total of 315.75 points after five dives in the event to nose out her rivals from Malaysia and Vietnam.

Perez also has the edge in the one-meter springboard competition. The event was introduced in the 2005 SEAG and Perez also topped her class.

22nd eaglet hatched

THE Philippine Eagle Research Center, run and managed by the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) in Malagos, Davao City, has a new family member as another Philippine eaglet hatched at the breeding center at around 11 a.m. last December 7.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

The still unnamed eaglet is the 22nd chick to have hatched at the center, boosting their efforts to preserve one of the world's most endangered birds.

The chick weighed 155.9 grams upon hatching and the sixth surviving offspring of one of the most prolific pairs at the center, Tsai (father) and Princess Maasim (mother). The pair has produced six out of the seventeen captive-bred eagles coming from natural pairs.

"The pair serves as an epitome of hope that the Philippine Eagle will continue to rule the skies and survive," PEF executive director Dennis Salvador said.

The eaglet is said to be in good health and is already eating ground quail meat.
Under the center's adopt-an-eagle program, a sponsor can choose a name for the bird in return for a donation.

Through the Adopt-an-Eagle Program, individuals and groups can help PEF's cause of preserving the great Philippine Eagle by adopting one at the PEC. By adopting, the eagle's food is assured. Its medical needs and maintenance on an annual basis are also taken cared of," said Barbette Rustia, associate communications officer for special projects.

At present there are already about 37 eagles being taken cared of at the Malagos center.

The Philippine eagle is one of the most endangered eagles as its habitat of old-growth tropical forests have been destroyed. It is found only in the Philippines, where the center believes there may be as few as 600 left.
Its wings span two meters when fully grown, making it one of the largest birds of prey in the world. (BOT/CPM

Suppliers urged to bring goods to food terminals

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) is urging food suppliers to help in making basic goods affordable by bringing their produce directly to barangay food terminals (BFTs) and bagsakan centers.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

DA regional executive director Roger Chio said his office through the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (Amad) will coordinate closely with food suppliers in facilitating the transport and marketing of their goods to BFTs and bagsakan centers.

Chio said there, consumers can buy food staples such as rice, meat and vegetables at prices up to 12 percent cheaper than those sold in regular retail outlets. "Making affordably priced quality foodstuff accessible to low-income families' forms part of the hunger mitigation program of our government," he added.

Chio said DA is urging our farmers and other food producers to help in carrying out this centerpiece anti-hunger program to guarantee stable supply of affordable basic goods in the region.

The DA official assured food suppliers that the DA is ready to help them sell affordable priced goods while earning high profit margins for their produce through the removal of unnecessary trading layers and facilitating direct market linkages between producers and end-consumers.

Next week the DA will be launching two BFTs here in located in Barangay Tibungco and in Catalunan Pequeno both in Davao City.

Chio said the launching of the BFTs in these areas pushed through because of the strong support of barangay officials who are determined to provide their constituents access to affordable food.

DA's support to BFTs includes provision of freezers, stackable plastic crates and technical assistance such as training the BFT operation team. The barangay for its part will provide the land, building, and start up capital as its counterpart.

"This only goes to show that if there is a concerted effort on the part of the DA and our food suppliers, we can make basic food items affordable for our low-income consumers while raising incomes for our agricultural producers," Chio enthuses.

Under President Arroyo's Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program (AHMP), the DA is targeting the establishment of 27 BFTs in Metro Manila this year, and 48 more in various regions across the country.

Ang tagal talaga i-unveil yung rendering ng Central Plaza Hotel. Dumaan ako kanina, ayun naka cover pa rin. Pero you can see the outline of the building kasi medyo manipis naman yung orange trapal. I am not sure, pero parang boxy yung building. Mukhang hindi sya payat na pahaba like MP, Durian, Landco, Mandaya, Apo View, Grand Regal.

yeah kasi may revisions pa sa design..theyre waiting for the (insider) leak from the hotel sa may bonifacio monument kung ano height nito

apparently nag change ang mind nung owner and he wants his hotel to be the tallest in the city

joke joke joke! heheh sorry

December 14th, 2007, 08:18 AM
ok lang naman mag start..

edit na lang ang facade ng konti pati yung foundation details

so they can start with the digging and piles muna while the design is being revised

Wow! Kanino mo naman nasagap yang balita na yan? Galeng! So kung 27 storeys tong isa ka hotel sa washington street, meaning labwan ani ni Central Plaza Hotel?

Would it be safe to assume that since the owner wants his hotel to be the tallest in Davao, it would be at least 19 floors to surpass that of MP?

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i292/naxju/5star.jpg

but if waway's scoop is true, ok rin yan but siguro MP lang muna ang target nila, and to surpass MP's height, dapat 22 storeys ang height because the 18 storeys of MP is only meant sa livable floors. mao ni proof nga ang MP is 21 storeys high, pictures don't lie.

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i292/naxju/mp-1.jpg

for the central plaza hotel, ok nako sa 12 storeys, pero sa bonifacio monument hotel 27 is a must :)

Yup yup yup! It does not matter kung kinsa sa ilaha pinakataas. I would not even mind if the tallest in Mindanao would not belong to Davao. What is more important is we have a number of tall buildings here. Paramihan nalang kumbaga. :)

Davao's Food and Dining

Davao dining offers a variety of culinary delights that will excite even the most discriminating gourmet.

The freshness of ingredients harvested from the sea and the farms provides a fulfilling taste that is distinctly Davao.

The city is known for its inihaw (grilled tuna) and kinilaw (local version of sashimi using tuna or blue marlin strips).

There is a variety of dining destinations to whet your appetite and suit your mood. There are restaurants offering a panoramic view of the Davao gulf. Others prefer a wider perspective of the city by dining in an array of restaurants located on top of hills.

Delectable Ala Carte and smorgasbord at affordable prices can also be found in popular restaurants, hotels, and cafes all over the metropolis. Chinese, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean and other cuisines are included in the menu of specialty restaurants.

New Asia Restaurant

My sister was disappointed with herself. She was set to finish a project this December and due to all the setbacks, the opening has been moved to January. Well, maybe it was God's plan. So what better way to alter her body chemistry and cheer her up by taking her to New Asia Restaurant.

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/9551/img1296sw9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

This night also doubles as our mini-Christmas party. Just the three of us sibs straight from work, still wearing our uniforms. My brother's wife was unable to join us since she was entertaining a friend.

When we arrived at Asia, we went straight to the aquarium to marvel at the crabs. Lovely!

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/4193/img1270ug6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

On the right, a collage is posted on the wall bearing photos of starlets, actors, actresses, athletes, and politicians who are wanted for crab massacre. At the washing area, there hung Crab shells whose insides were digested by Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Davao, and Champ of Hale. I smell somebody who is more showbiiiiiiiiiiiiz than me here. Hehe!

They also have an aquarium containing the restaurant's awards. Okay this you have to see for yourself!:)

The interiors are unassuming. I was thinking that it's going to be a slow night for them but surprisingly, people gradually started coming as the night progessed.

http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/8448/img1272um5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

First, we were served with the essential tools of the trade: nut crackers and a container for the spoils of war. The waiter was attentive, craining his neck and checking if there was anything lacking. Ahhh another tip-worthy waiter.

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/1937/img1274cm3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

If my mother isn't around, I make sure that I am able to order Hot and Sour Soup(P140-medium). My mother hates Hot and Sour for two things. She hates anything that tastes 1)hot and 2)sour. HAHAHA! Really. She doesn't like sinigang and can live without the quintessential sawsawan(dipping sauce) for grilled foods. She coughs over a teeny weeny tinge of hotness or spiciness.

The Hot and Sour soup was okay. However, it had too much ham and lacked the thickness that I like in Hot and Sour. This obviously lacked a thickening agent but I'll survive.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/4736/img1277ct2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

My sister, being true to herself, wanted pork (her comfort food), so we had fried spareribs(P180). It was a no-frills pork dish. No sauce to mask its flavor but it was tender and flavorful.

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/7827/img1287jt8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

We also had oyster Omelet(P140) which looked like omelet but tasted nothing like oysters.

Crabs cost P700/kg for babae/bakla(female/gay?) and P650/kg lalake(male). They can cook it steamed, szechuan-style, deep fry, ngohiong, sate, canchan, szechuan, sotanghon, etc. I forgot Tania's suggestion which was Chantian Chim, which according to her was the best!

We had Szechuan which was an almost dry way of cooking it. It was a bit spicy but good. It had a lot of the sinful aligue(crab fat!) and I could hear it again in my head - A minute on your lips, forever on your hips! I AM DAMNED!

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/8587/img1281gp6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

And the Canchan which was more on the saucy side. My sister and brother had King crabs in their recent trip to the US just this October and they said it was bland and that Asia's crabs were more intense in flavor!

It is unthinkable to bring your first date here unless you are suicidal. He/She will see you at your most primitive state making kit-kit and kut-kot over a dead crustacean. Consider the relationship already dead the moment you suggest crabs at Asia. Plus the 10 cups of rice you will be consuming!

New Asia Restaurant has set apart itself from other Chinese restaurants in the city by making crabs their specialty and their mascot - Mr. Krabs of Spongebob fame.

He may be out of place but what if Mr. Krabs owns the place?! Who knows, Spongebob may be at the back flipping Krabby Patties.;)

Ang tagal talaga i-unveil yung rendering ng Central Plaza Hotel. Dumaan ako kanina, ayun naka cover pa rin. Pero you can see the outline of the building kasi medyo manipis naman yung orange trapal. I am not sure, pero parang boxy yung building. Mukhang hindi sya payat na pahaba like MP, Durian, Landco, Mandaya, Apo View, Grand Regal.

darry pagsugo ug bugoy ipatanggal ang trapal

Davao athletes bag silvers in 24th SEA Games
By Charles Raymond A. Maxey and Marianne Saberon-Abalayan

SHEILA Mae Perez added a silver medal to her gold in diving, while Mary Ann Basas claimed a silver of her own in snooker as athletes from Davao City contributed to Team Philippines' medal push in the 24th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

Still in diving, Zardo Domenios settled for the bronze in the men's 3-meter springboard Thursday behind gold medal winner Kee Nee Yeoh of Malaysia and silver medallist Rosian Rossharishham.

In billiards, another Davao athlete, cue artist Lee Vann Corteza, reached the finals and will compete for the gold medal in the singles 9-ball event against Ricky Yang of Indonesia.

The 22-year-old Perez, who is from Tibungco, had a dismal second dive and settled for the silver behind Mun Yee Leong of Malaysia in women's one-meter springboard.

Perez, who bagged the women's 3-meter springboard gold a day earlier, opened with a great dive to take the early lead with 54.60, but faltered in her second dive and never recovered after that.

Leong won the gold with 278.30 points, while Perez had 265.80. Another Malaysian, Elizabeth Jimie, won the bronze with her 263.10.

Basas reached the finals in the women's 6-red snooker in her best campaign in the biennial meet, but settled for the silver when she lost to Santhinee Jaisuekul of Thailand. Iris Ranola of the Philippines took the bronze.

Basas first campaign for SEAG in Manila two years ago but didn't get any medal.

Domenios and fellow Davao athlete Jaime Asok, meanwhile, are set to defend their title in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard.

Holiday Lite ice cream launched
Sunstar Davao

ALL roads led to The Venue on December 6 as Holiday Gym & Spa launched the Holiday Lite ice cream and the culminating activities of the HGS Sports Week 2007, from December 1 to December 5.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

The fun-filled evening saw different teams composed of HGS members competing in the talent portion of the program. Each team showcased perky dance moves, lavish mini-fashion show, and extraordinary talent as the judges were hard put in deciding which team won.

The Red Team of Edwin Chua won the team presentation, which included renowned fashion designer Dodjie Batu. Batu recently joined the prestigious list of HGS instructors.

Capping the evening's activities was the launching of Holiday Lite ice cream, the taste of premium ice cream but free of fat in vanilla and chocolate flavors.

Holiday Lite ice cream is 93 percent fat free and exclusively distributed by Holiday Gym and Spa (HGS). The two exciting flavors are now available only at HGS.

Manufactured by Davao's own brand of quality ice cream, Allegro Ice Cream, expect only the best with Holiday Lite.

According to HGS manager Ivy Fernandez, HGS decided to venture into the ice cream business to treat its members after a hard day's workout at the gym without the guilt.

Electrifying production numbers by HGS instructors and an audio-visual presentation of HGS events for 2007 also highlighted the evening's activities.

Holiday Gym and Spa is located along Torres Street, Davao City, with telephone numbers 222-3041 or visit their website: www.holidaygymandspa.com. You may also check out the latest top of the line gym equipment at www.campaigningforhealthyliving.com.
